I've noticed that there is some argument about the accuracy of Starscream's toy. Some thing that the vehicle mode is accurate, while others think not. Judging from the toy gallery on Seibertron.com, it looks very accurate except for the blasters formed from his hands, which are severly oversized compared to both the movie model and the toy itself. Other than this though, the majority of the figure seems to be pretty accurate.

:If you know anything about fighters, then you'll know its an appallingly bad representation of an F-22 Raptor (has details closer to a YF-22, if I recall correctly). Hasbro/Takara have unfortunately produced better F-22-type planes in the past with Energon Starscream, and the cancelled NATF swing-wing version of the fighter with G2 Hooligan. I'm not really surprised that most Transformers fans can't tell the difference, as they generally aren't that well-versed in military hardware. --FFN 23:32, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
::Yeah, we tend to be more focused on consumer goods. --Andrusi 02:42, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

::To be perfectly honest, I will agree that it fits closer to the submodel than the main fighter, but at the same time I was looking at the two pictures side-by-side. In cases such as this, color is irrelevent considering Gen 1 Starscream was originally considered a highly unlikely paint-job for an F-15... until they adopted it. Admittedly, the arms and undercarriage do make the toy itself look less like the actual jet than the movie model, but they are also grossly different; Starscream's triple guns on his hands in the movie are MUCH smaller, and had to be enlarged for the toy to meet safety regulations. And while I do not exactly have a degree in the field, I do like to study up on military hardware, especially jets, tanks, and some of the newer guns (the XM-8 in particular). I was kind of hoping they'd go with the newer F-35B, but I think it was still in the experimental stage when the movie was being scripted. :::G1 Starscream's own hull colour is very similar to the grey they used on F-15s of the 80s. I don't recall that the USAF used any of G1 Starscream's decos, did they? As I explained on G1 Starscream's talk page, Classics Starscream's colour scheme was made up from photos of the F-15 prototype that the Air Force doctored... for some reason. Real one was light blue with rather bright orange.
I might add that while not a seperate series, G2 Starscream had a more salmon/coral and bluish color scheme than G1 did (pretty much what I saw on the F-15 photos). While the detailing isn't exactly the same, the colors are fairly close. I will also clairify that I didn't mean the Air Force didn't adopt the color scheme BECAUSE of G1, but they just happened to use a similar paint scheme at one time.
G1 SS's own hull colour is close to FS 36375, the main grey used on real F-15's of the 80's.

It's merchandise released to coincide with the movie, yes, but the jet mode isn't particularly based on the design of Movie Starscream, and the hand is pretty clearly based on G1 Starscream. Should the Barrel Roll Blaster be considered a toy for G1 Starscream instead of for Movie Starscream?

(And while we're at it, same thing for the Big Rig Blaster--the trailer's very G1, the truck cab is halfway between G1 and Movie, and the hand's clearly G1.)
Though not the strongest or most powerful of the Autobots, Bumblebee more than makes up for this with a bottomless well of pluck and determination. He would gladly give his life to protect others and stop the Decepticons.

Badly damaged in a conflict with Megatron, Bumblebee lost the ability to speak verbally, though he can still communicate over inter-Autobot frequencies (in a fashion that seems somewhat akin to instant messaging, a useable but more distant and less personal means of interaction).

: Movie Bumblebee transforms into a yellow 1974 Chevrolet Camaro with a quite reasonable level of sculpted detail. In contrast to the other Deluxe-class car Transformers in the Movie toyline, he does not have clear windows, instead opting for opaque yellow plastic with painted metallic blue.

: In robot mode, Bumblebee does not quite accurately replicate his movie appearance due to his chest remaining mostly unchanged and the sparse yellow paint applications render his limbs largely colourless. Due to the extensive use of ball joints, he features an excellent range of articulation. Unusually for an all-new sculpt in the Movie toyline, he features traditional-styled fists with 5mm holes. Bumblebee is armed with two shoulder-mounted spring-loaded missile launchers, which also double as hand-held weapons or can be mounted on ports on the undersides of his elbows. His legs and chest Automorph during transformation. Press the button or you'll break him. Seriously.

: Packaging photos and early test shots of Bumblebee featured transparent blue plastic windows and missile parts. However, the final Hasbro production toy has opaque yellow plastic. The Japanese Takaratomy release of Bumblebee retains the transparent blue plastic parts.

:Legends Bumblebee transforms into a yellow 1974 Camaro. Being a highly simplified toy of a highly complex design, Legends-class Bumblebee does not replicate the appearance of the robot mode very well, and has very limited articulation, detail and paint application.

: This battle pack contains the 1974 Camaro deluxe-class Bumblebee and the deluxe-class Barricade figures, based upon their confrontation as seen in the movie. The box features a diorama-style background from a movie scene, but toys themselves are unchanged from their original carded releases.
*Ultimate Bumblebee (Ultimate, 2007)

:Ultimate Bumblebee transforms into the concept vehicle for the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro. He is very expensive and very vaguely animatronic.

*Bumblebee (Camaro Concept) (Deluxe, 2007)
:Japanese ID number: MA-10

:Similar in appearance to the Ultimate toy, albiet much smaller, this second Deluxe class version of Bumblebee also transforms into a concept vehicle of the 2009 Camaro. Maintaining the high standard for car accuracy in the movie line, Bumblebee is very faithful to the real-life vehicle, featuring clear blue windows in contrast to the opaque windows seen in both his previous Deluxe class toy and the Ultimate Bumblebee toy.

: Oddly, this one is MORE accurate than either the older-model deluxe OR the Ultimate figures, with the chest properly articulating in a fairly Movie-accurate manner. It's also slightly larger than the other Deluxe figure, which makes Jazz very sad.
* According to an article on Edmunds.com, the filmmakers wanted Bumblebee's original Earth form to be the 1974 iteration of the Camaro because it was the worst Camaro possible that also had chrome bumpers.
* The same article indicates that the 1974 Camaros used in the film were all purchased via online auction for under $6000.

Barricade is apparently a complicated robot. He's considered "fractious" even by Decepticon standards, yet is willing to give Starscream the benefit of the doubt and follow where he leads, at least for the time being. Though not totally dedicated to the service of the Decepticon's current leader, he is much more cautious and reserved about expressing mutinous dissent than say most. In many ways this makes him Starscream's closest ally in the naturally combative Decepticon ranks. Then again, it's been said that he likes to trick people into trusting him, just so he can see their reactions when they find out just how much of a bad idea it was.

:Barricade transforms into an accurate Saleen S281 Ford Mustang Custom Police Pursuit Cruiser. As with MOST deluxe-class cars in the Movie line, he features clear windows for his windshield and doors, but oddly his rear window is opaque black plastic. Stored inside the engine bay, behind the car's ram bar is a mini-figure Frenzy disguised as Barricade's grill.

: In robot mode, Barricade quite faithfully reproduces the CGI design, though his chest cannot deform to the same extent. He features a reasonable amount of articulation with ball joints for his shoulders and upper legs, ratcheting and swivels for his elbows and double-jointed knees. Barricade has no neck joint as the two car hood halves slot into place between the bottom of the head and the plate on which it sits. Barricade does not have any Automorphing gimmick to speak of; in its place is a spring-loaded extending "punching" attack on his left arm.

: As with almost all Tranformers toys issued over the last few years, a few of his transformation quirks are undocumented; in robot mode front wheel panels on his shoulders are ball-jointed, allowing one to position them in a manner similiar to what is seen in the movie renders. Additionally the sections that become his claws (apart from the thumb hinge) can swing up slightly to make themselves more pronounced, and spikes on the top of his feet can be swing up.
In what could only be defined as an anomaly of physics, compared to the other Movie Legends, Barricade is quite close in appearance and transformation to the larger deluxe figure. Legends Barricade's instructions also overlook the fact that his grill can flip down to fill out his torso and raise his chest higher.

Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. Once, long ago, he was co-ruler of Cybertron together with his brother, Lord Protector Megatron, but Megatron grew greedy and attempted to claim the Allspark for himself. Optimus rose to stand against him. As obsessively as Megatron strives to achieve his objective, Optimus is equally as dedicated to stopping him. Lives must be kept free from the threat of Megatron's tyranny, at any cost.

For generations, Optimus Prime ruled Cybertron side-by-side with Megatron. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the Allspark and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He built a militia from the civilians around him, but they faired terribly against Megatron's armies. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the Allspark into space to keep it from his nemesis.

Thus the focus of the war between Autobot and Decepticon shifted. The Allspark's ejection was only a stall. No longer did Prime have to keep Megatron from stealing the Allspark, instead Prime and his Autobots must hunt down the Allspark, wherever in the universe it landed, before Megatron could. Prime Directives

:Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic comet thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides, and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle', creating the illusion of a flaming comet's tail. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO automorph gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have.

:In robot mode he resembles previous Optimus characters - his angular chest windows are reminiscent of Cybertron Optimus Prime, while his near animalistic limbs and color scheme are evocative of Beast Wars Optimus Primal. He has excellent articulation due to his many ball joints, and is armed with a rifle. The flame attachment can fit onto the end of the (non-firing :( ) gun barrel.

:Some packaging variants of this figure (perhaps a Wal-Mart exclusive) included a free movie poster depicting a Cybertronian eye overlooking Earth. While an added sticker to the outer plastic bubble says "Exclusive movie poster!", it is more of a preview of upcoming figures.

: The largest Movie Optimus Prime toy, Leader Class Optimus Prime features the most accurate representation yet of the CGI designs complex transformation with the only major exception being the arms, wich are supposed to form the front nose of the truck in the CGI model but are here placed right behind the cab. He transforms into a heavily-customized 2006 Peterbilt 379 Extended Hood truck, and unusually for a mainline figure, he has rubber tires on all his wheels. His Ion Blaster weapon is stored in the rear of the truck's bunk, exposed like an engine block. Though Optimus has no trailer, he has hole where the fifth wheel (known among fans as a 'hitch') is sculpted in the rear of the truck, should owners find a suitable trailer to use. Due to safety reasons, the tips of his long smokestacks are made of a soft, flexible material. A switch on top of the cab roof activates horn sounds and window lights.

: Featuring a complex transformation, essentially the front and back ends of the truck fold and converge to become Optimus Prime's legs, as much of the truck rear is connected to the robot thighs via a series of folding panels. The rear wheel cowlings feature a hinge joint in the middle of them so they do not impede his knee articulation. The rear cabin of the cab, directly connected to the smokestacks, rotate and connect to his torso and unfold into his arms. As with most mainline Movie toys, Optimus Prime features Automorph gimmicks, and due to his pricepoint has three of them. Firstly, during initial transformation, rotating his front fenders to become his heels flips the top parts of the grill to become his toes. Secondly, sliding out the the double-barrel cannon in his right forearm flips out his spring-loaded Ion Blaster, which lands into place for his right hand. (The Ion Blaster can actually be popped off his forearm fairly easily, held in place by a simple clip.) Optimus' final Automorph, located in his torso, is activated by flipping the silver lever on his stomach activating a series of spring-loaded actions where they push the truck windows part, raises the lever between them and allows the head to spring up from the chest cavity. At this point yellow LEDs light up the chest windows and Optimus Prime's eyes, accompanied by a 'powering up' sound effect.

: Optimus Prime has a wide range of articulation for a relatively bulky figure. He has ratcheting joints in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with swivel joints and ball joints supporting them in his biceps, lower knee joints and ankles. Again, unusually for a mainline figure, especially at the Leader pricepoint, his hands have individually articulated fingers and thumbs.

: A Target-exclusive repaint of the Voyager class Optimus Prime, this limited edition version boasts a "supermetal finish", resulting in silver metallic paint covering much of his paintable gray/silver plastic, a much higher contrast in his red and blue plastic colors and improved 'flame' paint decorations.

: Unusually for the smaller Voyager-class of toys, Robo-Vision Optimus Prime comes packed in robot mode in a special hexagonal column box with many windows, similar to the original packaging for 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime. The package also includes a Robo-Vision Decoder. Strangely, this Target exclusive preceded the release of the regular Voyager by a large margin, coming out on June 2, 2007 with the initial wave of movie toys.

: Legends class Optimus Prime is an extremely simplified toy of the extremely complex movie design. As such, he features numerous unavoidable inaccuracies, such as not transforming or even looking very much like the original design or the larger toy versions in robot mode. However, proportionally Legends class Optimus Prime is not far off from the real truck and the Leader class toy's vehicle mode, aside from missing a smokestack on the driver's side. he is articulated at the shoulders and upper legs via ball-joints.
*Optimus Prime (Voyager, 2007)
:Japanese ID number: MA-13

:The mid-range Voyager class Movie Optimus Prime toy transforms into an amalgamation of the Kenworth W900 and the Peterbilt 379, making this toy fairly inaccurate to the actual vehicle Optimus Prime turned into. Because of the smaller size and lessened complexity, the Voyager class Optimus Prime features a significantly different transformation sequence compared to the Leader class toy, and indeed, the actual CGI design. However, as the actual truck cabin no longer forms his chest, the cabin now features an small interior with opening doors and a non-removable Peter Cullen driver figurine that flips out of the seat when the driver's side door is shut.

: In robot mode, Voyager class Optimus Prime is proportionally more accurate to his CGI design than the leader class toy and has a more accurate headsculpt, but due to the aforementioned lessened complexity significant sacrifices had to be made, such as 'cheats' to the transformation sequence, to achieve this and thus he is overall less accurate than he initially appears. In addition to previously mentioned changes, he carries much of the truck's front hood, grill and fenders on his back like a backpack. However, he maintains a superb level of articulation and posability.

: Optimus Prime is armed with two large rifles cleverly formed out of a combination of both smokestacks and fuel tanks. These rifles peg into lower arms with grips for his open hands. The under-slung fuel tanks can fire spring-loaded projectiles. In vehicle mode, both smokestack rifles can be deployed as twin cannons, and this mechanism can also be used to store the rifles and deploy them as shoulder guns in robot mode.
:A highly CG-accurate sculpt of Optimus Prime's head with a built in voice-changer. It also has several sound effects and quotes from the movie. The voice-changer has three settings, giving more accurate alteration of the user's voice (though this is still debatable; most voice changing technology is pretty crummy, at least in toys). Much like the Ultimate Bumblebee figure, this toy will hate your wallet too. While it only costs 30 bucks, if it's anything like another Hasbro voice changer, it will suck batteries up like they were some kind of square candy holder.

: There are two versions of the voice changer helmet with two different pre-recorded voices. An earlier release features a voice similar to Garry Chalk, while the later release features the voice of Peter Cullen. The latter version has modified packaging under the 'Try Me!' blurb, stating it has 'Real Movie Voice!', though the updated version has also appeared in the original packaging without the 'Real Movie Voice!' notice.
* Takaratomy officially recognizes Optimus Prime's vehicle mode as a Kenworth W900 extended-hood truck, even though the vehicle used for filming was a modified Peterbilt 379, a different truck.

* As part of the hype buildup to the movie's release, Optimus Prime made a brief cameo at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, interacting with host Sarah Silverman. The scene spliced Silverman into pre-existing movie footage, but featured new dialogue recorded for the event by Peter Cullen. Prime heavily hinted that he wanted to present an award, but was rejected.
:Ironhide transforms into a modified black 2006 GMC Topkick four-wheel drive pickup truck. The two exhaust smokestacks behind the rear cabin have been shortened from the real scaled length and the prototype due to safety and durability reasons, but otherwise the vehicle mode is very accurate to the real truck... well, aside from the fact Ironhide's massive missile launchers are quite visible underneath the vehicle.

:Ironhide features an Automorph gimmick in his legs during transformation: As the user swings down his feet, all of the panels that make up his legs automaticaly shift and fold into place. This gimmick does not affect Ironhide's articulation. The instructions omit the exact positioning of the roof panels and rear window on his back, confusingly.

:In robot mode, Ironhide is quite accurate to his CGI design, though obviously simplified for toy practicality. Contrary to appearances, he features full standard up-down and lateral shoulder articulation, as well as articulation in his elbows, hips and knees. His arm-mounted cannons are inactive while mounted on both arms. However, detaching the left arm cannon and combining it with the right arm creates a huge functional missile launcher that is almost as big as Ironhide himself. The missile launching mechanism itself isn't the typical spring-loaded button design, instead relying on a pressure-launch system to fire the missiles from the four barrels.
First Lieutenant Jazz is one happy-go-lucky Autobot. Good-natured and always able to take things in his stride, he provides a decent contrast to the more serious demeanour of Ironhide or Prime himself. :Jazz transforms into a silver Pontiac Solstice Custom Hardtop. Included is a blaster weapon that elongates into a sniper rifle, which may also be clipped directly onto his rear spoiler when in vehicle mode. In robot mode, the section featuring this same rear spoiler may be kept folded onto his back or worn on either shoulder as a shield. An interesting undocumented feature is a hinge joint located on the bottom of the rifle can attach to the shield's hinge joint, creating three choice weapon configurations: a) a mounted long range surface-to-air sniper rifle, b) an ambidextrous shoulder-mounted canon, or c) a short range blaster with built-in shield somewhat akin to what has been seen in Jazz's concept art and in the movie itself.

: As with most of the mainline toys, he features a Automorphing gimmick that is activated by pushing the car roof down onto his back and locking it into place. This raises his head and slides his chest panels into proper position for the robot mode. This feature, like the weaponry mentioned above, is not documented at all, so one must be careful to not press the chest and the back at the same time.

*Autobot Jazz (Legends, 2007)
: A much smaller version of the character, Legends Jazz features limited articulation and detail, along with a much simpler transformation. A rather glaring side-effect of this transformation and a desire to mimic the hood chest of the larger toy is the addition of a second front bumper on the roof of his alt-mode. If this means Jazz also includes a second engine to go with this front bumper or an attempt at compensation for a case of police bar envy is unknown.
*The packaging text for the deluxe Jazz figure refers to his weapon as a "telescoping sword". As ridiculous as this sounds considering this weapon looks like a firearm, this very idea comes from sketches of a sword weapon featured on the same concept art that has Jazz showcasing the short range blaster/shield combination stated above.
the 2007 movie Autobot

:Bumblebee is an Autobot from the Movie continuity family.

Bumblebee is one of Optimus Prime's most trusted lieutenants.

Fiction
spoiler

IDW The Official Movie Prequel comics
Bumblebee commanded the Autobot forces at Tyger Pax attempting to hold the Decepticons off while the Allspark was launched off-planet. He succeeded but lost his ability to speak in the process. Later he was the first to track the Allspark to Earth, where he learned to express his emotions by tuning in appropriately emotive music on his car radio. Awww...

Ghosts of Yesterday prequel novel
In-between Tyger Pax and his arrival on Earth Bumblebee and the rest of the Ark crew encountered some humans in deep space and got their first clues to where Megatron and the Allspark rest.

Transformers (2007 film)
SPOILER WARNING
gets bought for $4000, gets an upgrade, gets turned into a popsicle, defrosted, has legs shot off by starscream, hitches behind tow-truck, puts a hole through brawl's chest armor.

Toys
Transformers (2007)
*Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2007)
:Japanese ID number: MA-03

*Bumblebee (Legends, 2007)

:Legends Bumblebee transforms into a yellow 1974 Camaro. Being a highly simplified toy of a highly complex design, Legends-class Bumblebee does not replicate the appearance of the robot mode very well, and has very limited articulation, detail and paint application.

*Bumblebee vs. Barricade: First Encounter (Multi-pack, 2007)

Cyber Slammers
*Bumblebee (2007)

: Bumblebee, like other Cyber Slammers, has motorized action. When you push down on the car, it zooms forward and slowly pops into robot mode! Sure to please the toddler you brought with you to the PG-13 movie.

*Bumblebee (Camaro Concept) (2007)

Fast Action Battlers
*Plasma Punch Bumblebee (2007)

Cyber Stompin' Robots
*Bumblebee (2007)

:He's got electronic lights and sounds up the whazzoo, and fires missiles and a fist. He totally plays the original theme song.

Robot Replicas
*Bumblebee (2007)

Titanium Series
*Bumblebee (Robot Masters, 2007)

:This Bumblebee is a three-inch tall painted mini-statue of his 1974 Camaro bodyform. He features die-cast in his torso and thighs, and he has swivel-joints at the shoulders, head and waist. Oh, and he comes with a Movie-style Autobot logo base to stand on.

Merchandise
*Beatmix Bumblebee (2007)

: Beatmix Bumblebee is a device that hooks up to a music device, similarly to an iDog. Like the aforementioned product, Beatmix Bumblebee reacts to the music being played (outputed via a speaker within him). With a touch, he can also sample the owner's music tracks and replays them with sound effects from the movie. His arms are posable, but Bumblebee cannot transform.

Unleashed
*Bumblebee (2007)

Trivia
* According to an article on Edmunds.com, the filmmakers wanted Bumblebee's original Earth form to be the 1974 iteration of the Camaro because it was the worst Camaro possible that also had chrome bumpers.
* The same article indicates that the 1974 Camaros used in the film were all purchased via online auction for under $6000.
