Kickback is first seen in chapter XI of the campaign. Starscream sees him and his other Insecticon brethren, Hardshell and Sharpshot, and Shockwave practically torturing the "test subject" which is Grimlock. After the test fails, and Sharpshot's request to let him play with the test subject is denied, Shockwave orders the Insecticons to follow him to another part of his tower. After Grimlock escapes custody, he rampages around Shockwave's Tower to try and release the rest of his team. After getting tested of how well he is in combat by Shockwave, he tells Grimlock that the only thing he now lacks to unlock his true potential, is to change forms. After getting frustrated because he cannot, Shockwave tells him that the Insectiocn Kickback had volunteered to "help" him in completing this. Kickback then enters the room in which Grimlock is in and then begins to tell him that he remembers him (flashbacking to the painful experiments done to him by Kickback) and then asks if Grimlock remembers him. He then laughs and taunts Grimlock into following him to an Insecticon Hive. After waves of Insecticons fail to destroy him, Kickback then goes too far and recites that they will tear him apart just like they did in the Sea of Rust. (SPOILER- this is Kickback's referring to killing Sludge and nearly killing the others.) This drives Grimlock over the edge and the rage he experiences transforms him into his mighty T-Rex form. Kickback is then scared straight as Grimlock easily tears through everything Kickback sends at him. When there is no more resistance, Kickback then thinks that his job is done and tries to retreat through the door behind him, but the door is then torn down and crushes Kickback from the waist down by Grimlock's friend Slug. Throughout the rest of the chapter, Kickback is never seen or mentioned again in the exclusion when Grimlock is fighting many enemies at once, he will hear Kickback's iconic "Grimlock...Lock...Lock". This could possibly indicate that Kickback escaped, or merely Grimlock's mind processor is just remembering these words from his past encounter.<br />
