When Optimus is infected by a Decepticon plague, Arcee and Bumblebee sneak aboard the Nemesis to find a cure.

Synopsis
Ratchet reports that his scans have located the Decepticon warship while experimenting with different frequencies. Arcee thinks they should strike now, but Ratchet says he's also detected an Autobot emergency beacon, and Optimus Prime decides they should check that out first. He and Ratchet arrive at a centuries-old crashed Autobot ship and venture inside. Though they expect there may be survivors, they find the crew already dead. Ratchet's scans reveal that the crew didn't die in the crash, but had succumbed to cybonic plague. As the ship shifts, a deceased Autobot hanging from the ceiling drips plague-imbued energon onto Optimus.

Later at base, Optimus lays stricken while the others discuss the situation. The plague was developed as part of the Decepticons' Biological Warfare Program, specifically by Megatron himself, and Ratchet thinks they might be able to find information in the Decepticon databases. Arcee and Bumblebee GroundBridge onto the Decepticon ship and, narrowly hiding from Knock Out, enter the ship's laboratory. Inside, Arcee scours the database, but fails to find a cure for the plague. While she's doing so, Bumblebee stumbles on something just as important—the comatose body of Megatron! Arcee is ready to finish Megatron off then and there, but Ratchet has a better idea—enter Megatron's brain and retrieve the plague cure. Ratchet knows of a procedure to create a cortical psychic patch. Though such procedures have been banned by the Autobots for years, it will get them into Megatron's brain, and Bumblebee is willing to try it.

On the ship's bridge, Starscream complains that the ship's electromagnetic shielding has not been fixed, and directs the Vehicons to hurry up and do so before the Autobots detect them. Afterwards Starscream has a private word with Knock Out, suggesting that the Decepticons deserve a leader who is conscious, and the pair come to an understanding whereby Knock Out will be Starscream's new second-in-command.

Arcee plugs Bumblebee into Megatron, and Bumblebee finds himself in a simulation of Kaon. Ratchet creates a communications downlink, so they can monitor what Bumblebee is doing. Bumblebee wanders though Kaon until he finds what appears to be Optimus, but is just a figment of Megaton's imagination. Megatron appears and slays the false Optimus, who dissolves into smoke. Another Optimus appears, and as Megatron fires his fusion cannon, Bumblebee jumps in the path of the blast, only to find it passes right through him to slay the imaginary Optimus. Megatron, however, has seen Bumblebee and attempts to strike him, but his blows pass clean through the Autobot scout. While Megatron is trying to work out what's going on, Optimus, Bulkhead and another Bumblebee appear, all figments of his imagination. Megatron destroys them, but begins to realize that he's in his own subconscious.

Arcee becomes anxious when Starscream, Knock Out and Soundwave enter the lab, though the two Autobots are hidden well enough that the Decepticons don't see them. Starscream is determined to put on a show for Soundwave, to convince his fellow Decepticon that Megatron is beyond saving. He and Knock Out attempt to persuade Soundwave that putting Megatron out of his misery is the best thing. Arcee and Ratchet overhear their conversation, and Ratchet says terminating Megatron will permanently separate Bumblebee's mind and body.

In the dream world, Megatron ponders what has happened to him, and finds out from Bumblebee about the space bridge explosion. Short on time, Bumblebee relays the news about Optimus's cybonic plague infection. Megatron is amused that after all this time Optimus will be felled by a virus, but Bumblebee plays on his desire to finish Optimus himself.

Starscream is about to pull the plug on Megatron when Soundwave points out the psychic patch cable. Starscream begins following it, as Arcee observes from her hiding place.

Megatron briefly shows Bumblebee the formula for the virus cure, but will only share it if Bumblebee can release him from his mental prison. Unknown to Megatron, Ratchet can still see everything Bumblebee sees. Having ganked the formula, Ratchet tells Arcee to cut the link. Megatron's dream world begins to disintegrate and the Decepticon leader launches himself at the disappearing Bumblebee.

Bumblebee comes around as Starscream finds the two hidden Autobots, and, as they escape through the GroundBridge, Arcee blasts one of the cables attached to Megatron. Starscream is actually pleased that Megatron has flatlined as a result, but at Soundwave's insistence has Knock Out reconnect the cable.

A newly-cured Optimus stands up and the Autobots celebrate, but Optimus insists the celebration should be for Ratchet and Bumblebee. On the Decepticon ship, Knock Out observes that Megatron is no longer exhibiting any brainwave activity — there's no one home. Unbeknownst to anyone, Megatron now resides in Bumblebee's head...
Notes
Animation or technical errors
*When Knock Out says that there is no brainwave activity, one of the monitors next to Starscream shows brainwave activity in Megatron.

Continuity errors
*Since Megatron's dream was, presumably, taking place before the cortical psychic patch, why is it destroyed once the patch is broken? Shouldn't Bumblebee be the only thing in it to disappear?

Transformers references
*Kaon, the Decepticon capital on Cybertron, was first mentioned in the Dreamwave Generation One comics.
*"One shall stand, one shall fall" is used for the second time in this series.
*Megatron asks whether or not he "still functions".
*Megatron refuses handing over the formula for the cure to the plague unless Bumblebee helps him escape, or he will let Optimus "fade to gunmetal grey."
*The first showdown between Megatron and an Optimus illusion is reminiscent of the title sequence.

Foreign dubbing
Real-world references
*Cybonic plague is a reference to bubonic plague.
*Bulkhead says that Megatron is "pushing up lugnuts." This is a modification of the human phrase, "pushing up daisies," although it doesn't make much literal sense.
*Oddly enough, Starscream uses two common human phrases, both quoted above. Perhaps Soundwave gets cable?

Trivia
*This episode was available to watch prior to its intended airdate on some cable providers' Video On Demand services.
*This episode marks Megatron's first speaking role since the end of the Darkness Rising mini-series.
*This is also the first episode to show Megatron using his fusion cannon outside of the opening titles sequence.
*"I'm inside your mind!" is a common fictional trope that Transformers fiction has explored in the past:
**In the Beast Wars episode "Other Voices, Part 2", Blackarachnia uplinks herself into Tarantulas's mind and wanders through his inwardly-imagined world before confronting his own psychic avatar. Tarantulas also manages to install himself into her mind as Megatron has done here.
**And from a less metaphysical perspective, the Autobots literally shrank themselves into microscopic size in order to walk around inside Megatron's brain in the Generation 1 episode "Microbots".
*Starscream totally bitch-slaps a Vehicon.
*Megatron moves rather quickly in his dreams. After destroying the dream Optimus, Bulkhead and Bumblebee, and realizing its his subconscious, he takes barely a second to move from his position a few feet away to looming over Bumblebee.
*Megatron's voice has a surprisingly compassionate sound to it when he asks if "someone besides [him]self is unwell"... It's rather disturbing.
*Nobody transforms once in this episode.
Synopsis
Cheetor and Rattrap hack into Megatron's central computer, looking for clues to who has tampered with the Oracle, but turn up nothing. Finally, just as Rattrap is about to find something, they're chased off by tank drones and soon find themselves surrounded. Rattrap throws some bombs which cover the tanks in vines, disabling them, and the two Maximals scarper.

Meanwhile the Diagnostic Drone reports the Key to Vector Sigma has been downloaded to all of the tank drones. Tankor is pleased, until he tries to command the drones and discovers he no longer has control of them. He realises instead he will need to get Megatron to deploy them.

Optimus Primal has another vision from the Oracle, which tells him he must undertake his final journey. As he's telling Blackarachnia and Nightscream that he knows how to defeat Megatron, the other two Maximals arrive to report that Megatron has loaded the Key program into the tank drones.

The Diagnostic Drone disengages from the Oracle, reporting that he just created a counterfeit vision. Tankor monitors the Maximals, who are strolling through the city in robot mode. They reach a dead end, and turn back, but Optimus' eyes glow and a pair of huge doors open. They ride an elevator downwards to the Plasma Energy Chamber, which Optimus believes he can control. As he speaks, a mole drone appears, and he orders the Maximals into beast mode, before unleashing a bolt of energy from the chamber which vaporises the drone. He explains to the amazed Maximals that plasma energy will overload any electrical-mechanical systems. He plans to shut down everything technological on the entire planet. Cheetor tries to talk Optimus out of global Armageddon. Optimus shuts down the chamber and listens to Cheetor's alternate plan—use the seed grenades to keep the tank drones busy while Rattrap searches for a way to disable the Keys.

Tankor is pleased that Optimus has found the Plasma Energy Chamber, knowing that Optimus would never use it, but knowing that Megatron could never take that chance. Indeed Megatron is very annoyed when told about the discover by the Diagnostic Drone, who suggests that the Key weapon be deployed before Optimus has a chance to use the chamber. The tank drones are deployed around a huge structure which rises from the surface of Cybertron and are promptly attacked by the Maximals, throwing them into disarray. Megatron orders the Maximals' destruction.

Rattrap hacks into Megatron's computer again, only to find Tankor waiting to blast him. With Rattrap disabled, Tankor uses his link with the Diagnostic Drone to try to get Megatron to fire the Key weapon. Megatron doesn't believe that Optimus would ever use the Plasma Energy Chamber, and becomes more suspicious of the Drone, disabling it. Tankor rages that he will not be denied and leaves Rattrap's twitching technomatter self calling out to Optimus for help.

Optimus rushes into the Council Citadel to confront Megatron. The pair fight, and Megatron shows on monitors the other Maximals being transformed into technomatter. Optimus argues that it is the will of the Matrix that the organic prevail, and Megatron transforms into beast mode in rage. As they wrestle, Optimus attempts to reformat his opponent, but Tankor arrives in time to zap Optimus into technomatter. Before Tankor can zap Megatron as well, he's restrained in energy bonds. Megatron transforms and thanks Tankor for his help in handing him victory.

As Megatron gloats over Optimus, the Maximal sends a mental command to open the Plasma Energy Chamber. The unleashed plasma energy begins ripping through Cybertron, and Megatron command his tank drones to fire the Key weapon. The conflicting energies create a maelstrom, swirling across the planet. Optimus' hand disintegrates before his eyes.

Synopsis
It's like... Wizard Chess, but cooler.

:Isaac Sumdac is a human from the Transformers Animated continuity family.

What Henry Ford and Bill Gates were to the 20th century, Isaac Sumdac is to the 22nd. His invention of versatile reliable automaton robots revolutionized every industry and the American way of life, and turned Detroit into a major manufacturing center once again. The founder of Sumdac Systems, he is also the father of Sari.

Sumdac is a genuinely loving, devoted father who cares deeply for Sari, who has worked hard to craft elaborate gifts for her and to help her make friends. And he is an ethical businessman who sticks to his beliefs as well, staunchly refusing to manufacture military weapons despite the potential revenue they could bring in to his company. But Isaac Sumdac has got one overbearing flaw that constantly lands him in very dangerous situations: he may just be the single dumbest smart person the world has ever seen. He has virtually no interpersonal skills to speak of, and doesn't understand people in the slightest; Sumdac will believe just about anything anyone tells him, if they act sincere enough when they do so. And it's not just other people that he has trouble dealing with—Isaac is prone to getting so wrapped up in his work, that he hurts himself as well, actually forgetting to eat and drink sometimes. When engrossed in a project, he clearly finds it hard to remember that there is a world outside his lab.

And then there were those...incidents involving the big giant head in his lab. And the incidents with the robot's real friends, but let's not dwell on the past.
As a youth in the small town of Paw Paw, Isaac Sumdac was working in his makeshift laboratory when what appeared to be a meteor struck the ground close to his home. Investigating, the young Sumdac was shocked to discover that the "meteor" was, in fact, the severed head and arm of a giant alien robot. Sumdac, of course, had no way of knowing that this was the noggin of the evil Decepticon leader Megatron, but that ultimately was of little importance to the boy, as the tyrannical robot was well and truly offline. Sumdac disassembled the head and studied it, eventually learning to reverse-engineer its technology. Using this futuristic alien technology, Sumdac was able to build himself an incredible robotics company, which grew and grew over the next five decades, but which stage it was responsible for mass-producing legions of robot workers that had become a part of everyday life in Detroit. Megatron's head was kept in Sumdac's personal lab in his business headquarters, Sumdac Tower, where the scientist even used the robot's disembodied hand as a chair. Transform and Roll Out

Around forty-three years after he found Megatron's head, Sumdac made another strange discovery. Noticing a flash of light in his lab, Sumdac entered to find a strange metallic pod, containing a small, liquid metal body. Fascinated, Sumdac reached out to touch the small creature, but received an electric shock that knocked him offline, and turned a streak of his hair white. When Sumdac came to, the liquid metal being was gone, and in its place was what appeared to be a human baby. Not knowing what else to do, Sumdac "adopted" the child, named her "Sari", and spent the next seven years raising her as his own. TransWarped Understandibly, Sumdac was reluctant to let Sari out into the world, and mostly kept her confined to Sumdac Tower, using robot tutors to educate her and building other robots to keep her company.

Seven years later, Sumdac was in the midst of conducting a school tour around his company labs when a techno-organic experiment ran out of control, creating a creature that the Detroit police proved powerless to stop. The monster was defeated by the surprising arrival of a team of alien robots that introduced themselves as the Autobots, who Sari quickly befriended. While Sumdac was genuinely warm and welcoming to the Autobots, and hailed them as Detroit's newest super-heroes, he now knew the true nature of the mysterious robot head that he had built his company upon, and was terrified that the Autobots would find out what he had done to one of their race. Transform and Roll Out

When a jolt of energy from Sari's AllSpark-empowered Key brought Megatron's head back online, Home Is Where the Spark Is the evil robot decided to exploit Sumdac's gullibility by posing as an Autobot, suggesting that the other Autobots would be much more forgiving of Sumdac dissecting him if the scientist gave him a new body before revealing the truth. As a sign of good faith, Megatron helped Sumdac rebuild his robot dinosaurs. Unfortunately, a glitch made them rampage twice, and Isaac felt annoyed at the bad job he'd done. However, Megatron took the blame upon himself and claimed to be ashamed to admit that he'd built weapons into the dinosaurs out of his desire to have a body again. Sumdac sympathized with his friend, promising not to tell the Autobots and to restore him one day. Blast from the Past

Isaac was true to his word, but his attempts to build a new body from scratch for Megatron met with failure due to a lack of Destronium. It just so happened that Sumdac Systems' product line also included a prototype reflex-augmentation suit; when the only working model was mysteriously stolen and the thief then used it to try to retrieve the Destronium Megatron desperately needed, Isaac found that confusing but seemed otherwise untroubled. Nanosec (episode)

For Sari's birthday party, Sumdac tried to get some kids her own age (all children of his employees) to hang around with her, but even with the help of the Autobots, this did not really work. Luckily, she was happy with her new present, Soundwave, a musical robot that had been created by Megatron simply to please children. (It turned evil, but surely that was all an accident on Megatron's part!) Sound and Fury

After meeting with Henry Masterson, who showed Sumdac the "Headmaster unit", Sumdac was horrified to discover that Masterson planned to use the technology for military purposes. Things got even worse when the rocket that Masterson's warbot controlled went flying into the city of Detroit. Furious, Sumdac fired Masterson on the spot. Several days later, Masterson stole the Autobot Bulkhead's body and used it to take control of a solar fusion power plant, demanding 700 billion dollars to be delivered by Sumdac himself. Isaac drove Optimus Prime into the power plant with the other Autobots, allowing them to take on Masterson. While Sumdac tried to shut down the reactor, a stray missile from Masterson destroyed the controls. Fortunately, Bulkhead built a drone that managed to shut down the reactor. Headmaster (episode)

After discovering an energy signature out in the woods near Detroit, he found it was what he had been searching for since he came across Megatron's head: the rest of his body. Sumdac noted that Megatron would be most surprised by the discovery. Nature Calls

After bringing Megatron's body back to his lab, he commented on how his body had done well in the wilderness for 50 years. As soon as Sumdac apparently finished the body's repairs, Lugnut and Blitzwing arrived, and Megatron revealed that he was a Decepticon. Depositing Sumdac in his severed hand, Megatron used the Key to restore his body. As wires pulled the hand to the body, it made a fist around Sumdac, taking him with it. When Megatron opened his hand upon being restored, Sumdac was nowhere to be seen. Megatron Rising - Part 1

Somehow free from Megatron's grasp, Sumdac tried to escape. Blitzwing intercepted his escape, but Megatron's calling of the Decepticons allowed him to flee. Meeting the Autobots in the lobby of Sumdac Tower, Isaac explained his role in what had happened. Prowl and Bulkhead were a little ticked, but Optimus decided that then was not the time for recriminations. Repairing the Autobots with residual AllSpark Key energy, Isaac accompanied them on the Autobots' ship when they crashed on Dinobot Island. Fearing that the end was near, Sumdac said that there was something important that he wanted to tell Sari, but she ran off to find something that the AllSpark could charge in place of her Key before he could elaborate. Sumdac quickly assembled a device that damaged Megatron's equilibrium sensors, but disappeared in the chaos during the battle between Optimus and Megatron and the dispersal of the AllSpark. In the aftermath, Sumdac had been snatched by Megatron. Now a prisoner of Megatron, the Decepticon leader mockingly asked Sumdac if he was comfortable in his chair. Megatron Rising - Part 2

Professor Sumdac was held prisoner by the Decepticons deep in a cavern studded in carbon deposits which baffled the Autobot scans of the area. Shown a space bridge schematic which Megatron had stolen from Teletran-1, the scientist was put to work doing what he does best, reverse-engineering the technology. The Elite Guard The scientist was also forced to create signal-dampeners to allow the Decepticons to remain undetected by the Autobots even outside the mines, and a tachyon transmitter that allowed Megatron to communicate with his double-agent on Cybertron. Mission Accomplished Sumdac tried to alert the Autobots to this double-agent by bouncing a transmission to their headquarters, but the garbled message they received sent them off on the wrong track. Autoboot Camp

Once the bridge was completed, it was learned that Sumdac had misinterpreted the schematics, leaving the Decepticons with a non-functional bridge. Megatron decided to kidnap Cybertron's top space bridge technician, who turned out to be Bulkhead. Megatron took Sumdac with him both as a hostage and to prevent Sumdac from interfering with the Constructicons' work. Bulkhead was captured and compelled to help under threat of being body-jacked again with a Headmaster unit. Once Bulkhead was put to work, Sumdac assumed that he was trying to sabotage the bridge and played along. However, Bulkhead actually was trying to fix the bridge and managed to finish it in short order...just in time for a rescue attempt by the Autobots to be hijacked by an attack by Starscream and his clones. A Bridge Too Close, Part I

After trying to shut down the bridge, Sumdac commandeered the Headmaster and used it to steal Starscream's body to try and destroy Megatron. The Decepticon leader was unimpressed and shot the Headmaster off with his fusion cannon. Then power complications with the space bridge arose, and Megatron tried to fix that by adding Starscream's AllSpark-infused head to the mix, causing an overload. Fortunately, Omega Supreme arrived, being piloted by Ratchet and Sari of all people. Omega sacrificed himself after ejecting Sari and Ratchet, and the Autobots and Sumdacs escaped before the mine came down around them when the space bridge exploded. Free of Megatron and reunited with his daughter, Isaac Sumdac was relieved to know that the ordeal was at an end. His troubles weren't over, though, as Sari noticed that the skin of her right arm had been torn...revealing robotic circuitry underneath! A Bridge Too Close, Part II

Faced with a daughter on the verge of a breakdown and five robots who had run out of reasons to trust him, Isaac revealed to Sari what he knew of her origins, but none of them were particularly convinced by his fantastical story of a liquid metal robot that appeared out of thin air. Once Isaac had fired Porter C. Powell, who had taken control of his company during his absence, and Henry Masterson, whom Powell had re-hired, Sari refused to speak to, or even be in the same building, as the man she could no longer even think of as her father. Luckily, Optimus Prime able to patch the family back together by letting Isaac know that he was going to take Sari to Burger Bot, so the could meet them there (this was accomplished by opening a comm channel to Sumdac's lab and talking very loudly and at length to Sari about Burger Bot, but even then, it's a minor miracle that Sumdac figured out what Prime was doing). While the trio was at Burger Bot, a vengeful Masterson attacked, and Sari and Sumdac both managed to save each other from the villains' wrath. While Prime finished Masterson off, Sari realized that whether or not she was a robot, Sumdac was still her father.

While all this had been going on, Prowl had been conducting some research of his own, and concluded that Sumdac had discovered a Cybertronian protoform which had scanned his DNA. Intrigued by the fact that she was part Cybertronian, Sari turned her AllSpark Key upon herself and upgraded her body into an older, more powerful form, only to promptly start running out of control. Once the Autobots had her subdued, Prime revealed the location of the Autobots' base to Professor Sumdac, much to the consternation of the other Autobots, who still did not trust the scientist entirely. Prime vowed that there would be no more secrets between their "family," and Sumdac apologized to Sari for keeping the truth of her origins hidden for so long. TransWarped

Working with Bulkhead to construct a new space bridge in Sumdac Tower so that the Autobots could contact Cybertron to warn them about Megatron's double-agent, Sumdac decided to call it a night when several floors of the tower collapsed underneath them thanks to the weight of the equipment. Sumdac was less than impressed when Bulkhead called in the Constructicons to help repair the building, but his attitude rankled with the Constructicons' new foreman, Dirt Boss. To protect Sumdac, Bulkhead began ordering him around cruelly, winking all the while, but Sumdac, of course, completely failed to understand that Bulkhead was merely acting to preserve his safety, and rushed off to complete the construction of the plasmadynamic thruster the Autobot demanded. Sumdac even followed Bulkhead to the Constructicons' warehouse hangout to give him the completed thruster, where Bulkhead was able to make him understand the deception, before having to put the act on again and send Sumdac scampering away. When the other Autobots arrived to help Bulkhead stop the Constructicons' plans to steal all of Detroit's oil, Sumdac was able to bring them up to speed, and his completed plasmadynamic thruster was then used to warp the Constructicons—and an exploding oil tank—off to a safe distance. Three's a Crowd

On Christmas Eve, Sumdac was featured in one of Powell's ads for his Soundwave toys, which featured him accusing Powell of stealing his toy rights, but Powell states that he "Acquired this toy's patents fair and square" when he owned Sumdac Systems. Later, on Christmas morning, he sat down with Sari to open her Christmas presents, and when she doesn't like that he had purchased her a Soundwave toy, he explains that it was made in China, and that it both dances and sings. When Sari opens her last present, which turns out to be a scooter/jetpack, Sumdac warns her to be careful with the thing, but she just blows him off. Human Error, Part I

Sumdac was later hypnotized by the Soundwave toy he had purchased, and as such, was commmanded to destroy Sari, as she could not be controled because of her techno-organic nature. Sari eventually traps him under a bookcase, as she had no other option if she didn't want to hurt him, and he is freed from Soundwave's control after Soundwave is defeated in battle with Optimus Prime. Human Error, Part II

He and Bulkhead continued to work on the space bridge often doubting the others diagnostic of what to do to get it operational. Sari wanted to help but neither Bulkhead nor Prof. Sumdac believed that without her key she would be much help. However during their arguing she was able to fix what they somehow could not because apparently after her upgrade she knows stuff. She tried to help use the space bridge to get Optimus Prime back from the elite guard ship but he informed her that was not necessary, she told her father that now she was upgraded she was smarter, was able to help and Sumdac shouldn't tell her what to do because she knew what she was doing but what he meant was that wasn't necassary now. Decepticon Air

Sumdac later helped Ratchet and Sari build a jetpack for Optimus Prime to use in battle against Meagtron, and witnessed Optimus Prime take a head-first dive into the ground after the first test EPICLY FAILED! Endgame, Part I When the Starscream Supremes were attacking the city, armed with bombs, Sumdac was in the process of trying to get the Sumdac Tower forcefield back up, when Prowl asked him if the tower had a bomb shelter. Sumdac was initally puzzled by this question, but when he saw the Starscream Supremes, his questions were answered. Endgame, Part II
Despite having a cold, Pr. Sumdac was in an unusually good mood and "remembered to wear pants" the morning he showed Sari, Bumblebee, and Optimus his new Bi-directional Unified Transit Terminal, but no doubt lost his good mood when his BUTT backfired with such power that it flung Sari, Bumblebee, and Optimus into Axiom Nexus. Bee in the City
For fifty years, Megatron tricked Sumdac into searching for the remains of his body while simultaneously giving him Cybertronian technology. When he at last obtained the key, Megatron revealed his ruse to a shocked Sumdac and was reborn. The Cool issue 5

During the battle for the Space Bridge, Sumdac attempted to best Megatron with a Headmaster unit latched onto Starscream's body. He was handily defeated off-panel. When the battle was over, Professor Sumdac was reunited with Sari. Unfortunately, at that moment Sari discovered robotics beneath her skin, leaving Sumdac with some grim explaining to do.The Cool issue 8

Back at Autobot HQ, Sumdac finally revealed to Sari how he found her as a tiny robot in a capsule and, after an intense electric shock, discovered the robot was replaced with a human child. Prowl, after a full body-scan of Sari, determined that the tiny robot was a Transformer protoform that scanned Sumdac's DNA, resulting in an entirely new lifeform. Sumdac begged for Sari's forgiveness and she was quick to comply, giving her dad a big, snuggly hug. The Cool issue 9
The name was thought up very early in the making of the show: during 2008, story editor Marty Isenberg mentioned that it was in the show development before he signed on.
He also had some kind of stylized "S" emblem on his lab jacket, where the finalized Sumdac has a name badge. The "S" appears to be in his hair now (the cause of which is revealed in "TransWarped").

A Super Mode is an auxiliary transformation some Cybertronians possess that is used sparingly, perhaps due to a higher energy consumption. This transformation often involves combining with unused portions of their alternate mode and bringing normally concealed weapons systems online. This form is often a variation on the robot mode, but there are many who possess vehicular or other Super Modes. In some continuities, it is referred to as a Battle Mode, Brute Mode, or Ultra Mode. A robot-mode super mode is, amazingly enough, often called a Super Robot.

Fiction
Generation 1
One might easily consider Ultra Magnus one of the earliest examples of a Super Mode, due to his toy combining with his trailer to form a Super Robot. However, due to the recognition factor and possible confusion with Optimus Prime, he was never depicted in his primary robot mode. This made his Super Mode his de facto normal mode.

This was later superseded by Optimus Prime's upgrade into a Powermaster, by which he acquired a canonical Super Mode. However, after the first couple of issues he was rarely if ever shown in his smaller robot mode.

The Classics Voyager Jetfire toy has a removable head and large booster-kibble in robot mode which could be considered a super mode (the actual reason was to allow a toy that resembles Jetfire in both his toy and cartoon appearances).

Masterforce
Ginrai, much like his American Powermaster counterpart, possessed both a robot mode and a Super Robot mode from combining with his trailer. As well, he could combine this powerful mode with the Godbomber drone to form a still larger and shinier "God Ginrai" mode. Though Godbomber had no counterpart in the English-language fiction, the rerelease of Powermaster Optimus Prime included the mold improvements featured in Ginrai as well as the Godbomber figure, renamed Apex Bomber, who formed Prime's "Apex Armor."

Victory
Star Saber was a double Brainmaster, starting as a small robot known as the Brain of Courage, combining into a larger robot named Saber, and finally forming an even larger robot known as Star Saber (natch). This robot could then be enhanced further by combining with Victory Leo to form Victory Saber.

Robots in Disguise
Optimus Prime initially had a smaller robot mode composed of just his vehicle mode cab, which could then combine with pieces of his "trailer" to form a larger, more powerful Battle Mode (this mode was called "Super Fire Convoy" in Car Robot). Later on, he and Ultra Magnus could combine to form the Super Robot Omega Prime ("God Fire Convoy" in Car Robot). Neither was the dominant personality in this fusion, much to Magnus's disappointment.

Also, the three Autobot Brothers Side Burn, Prowl, and X-Brawn each possess the ability to Power Up into a Supercharged form, after receiving a power boost from Ultra Magnus when the Matrix was being shared between him and Prime. In contrast to more typical super-modes which use unused altmode bits or hidden weapons, their super modes are examples of spontaneous recoloration.

Unicron Trilogy
Armada
Optimus Prime could combine with his trailer to form his Super Mode. He could also combine with Jetfire to become Jet Optimus. Both of these Super Modes could be further enhanced by mounting Overload on their shoulders. In the Japanese version Micron Legend, the names used are "Jet Convoy" and "Magna Jet Convoy", respectively.

Megatron could form a Super Mode by combining with the various components that make up Tidal Wave; Micron Legend uses "Burning <s>Gundam</s> Megatron".

Energon
Optimus Prime could combine with the four drone vehicles stored in his trailer, with each forming an arm or a leg Scramble City-style, leading to a wide variety of Super Robot modes. Prime could be further enhanced by combining with Wing Saber to form either his heavily armed "Fight Mode" or the more maneuverable "Flight Mode." Prime could also combine with Omega Supreme to form "Optimus Supreme." The names "Wing Convoy - Cannon Mode", "Wing Convoy - Jet Mode", and "Omega Convoy" are used in the Japanese version Super Link.

Also, every Autobot (that wasn't an Omnicon) possessed the ability to combine with the others in pairs to form "Powerlinx" versions of themselves, thanks to the Spark of Combination.

As well, both Landmine and Bulkhead possessed "Brute Modes," which were formed by combining with previously unused portions of their vehicle forms.

Cybertron
In Transformers Cybertron, Optimus Prime transforms into Super Mode. Most of his trailer goes onto his back while two leg pieces connect to the blue part of his legs and his mouthplate comes over his face. Optimus Prime goes into Super Mode when fighting in battle against anybody vaguely threatening.

Optimus Prime could also enter a number of Super Mode configurations by combining with other characters, such as "Savage Claw Mode" with Leobreaker and "Sonic Wing Mode" with Wing Saber. In the Japanese version Galaxy Force, "Liger Convoy" and "Sonic Convoy" respectively.

Conversely, Megatron could form the "Dark Claw Mode' with Nemesis Breaker, and similarly named "Liger Megatron" in Galaxy Force.

IDW G1 Comics
Nova Prime possessed a Super Robot mode formed by combining with his vehicle mode's trailer. This form also granted him wings and thus the power of flight.

Thunderwing revealed that not only were his robot and jet modes enhanced by the Pretender process, but he also possessed an extremely powerful tertiary Ultra Mode. However this form drew heavily from the reserves of Ore-13 that were powering him, causing the enhanced energon variant to go critical and burn him out from the inside. Damaging him beyond repair. Or not. Stormbringer (comics)

Live action continuity
After being critically injured by Scorponok, Jetfire offered his parts to Optimus Prime, who was still recovering after being resurrected and needed assistance in fighting the Fallen. Jetfire then ripped out his spark core and died. Ratchet then instructed Jolt to transplant the afterburners and weapons onto Optimus Prime's structure. Once completed, Optimus Prime was left with wings, an arm-mounted missile launcher, and an arm-mounted machine gun. Flying off, Optimus broke through the debris The Fallen had raised to protect the star harvester and destroyed the machine, then attacked the Fallen. Megatron came to the aid of his master, but Optimus broke of his arm, shooting off about a third of Megatron's head and finally used the afterburners to send Megatron flying through some ruins. The Fallen was able to tear off one of Prime's thrusters and strike him with it, but Optimus Prime ultimately triumphed and ripped out the Fallen's spark, forcing Megatron and Starscream to retreat. Following this, Optimus detached Jetfire's donated parts. Revenge of the Fallen (film)

Animated Series
Plans for Optimus Prime to combine with his trailer were made for season 4, which was cancelled. The Allspark Almanac 2 reveals designs for Prime's super mode, in which he sported a clear visor over his eyes in addition to a larger helmet, larger build, and his winglbade upgrade. The design was intended to give Megatron a formidable opponent in the size department.
