Millions of years ago, a mechanoid named '''A3''' was part of the robot rebellion against the [[Quintesson]]s on a [[Cybertron (planet) |factory world]], creating a device called the [[Coda Remote]] that would stop their [[Dark Guardian]]s. He was briefly pulled into the year 2006, but was soon put back to fufill his role in Cybertronian history.

Years later, he would be given the [[Matrix of Leadership]] by a dying Autobot leader. It would sit in his possession, unused, until the coming of the next Autobot leader.

In the meanwhile, Alpha Trion developed plans to rebuild Autobots to better combat the Decepticon menace.

The next Autobot leader would actually come to ''him'' when a group of time-travellers lugged a dying youth named '''Orion Pax''' to his repair center. Reluctant at first, Alpha Trion sensed a strong spirit in Orion Pax, and decided to rebuild him entirely... into [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. When Prime asked if Alpha Trion could rebuild his girlfriend Ariel as well, Alpha Trion agreed, and mused that Elita One would be a good name for a female warrior.

When next seen - millions of years later - Alpha Trion was engaged in a holographic communication with Elita One, where he (somewhat randomly) reminded her to not use her time-stopping power, for its use would likely kill her. When she used this power to save her beloved Optimus Prime, the Autobot leader tracked Alpha Trion to his secret base. Alpha Trion repaired her to the best of his ability, but revealed to Optimus Prime that only '''he''' could save Elita by interfacing to her with his power filter. An astonished Optimus Prime stated that only his CREATOR could know that!

* Menasor's vehicle mode actually connects together better than shown in the stock photos (the official instructions and show model do not even acknowledge that the connectors exist). The plugs on the backs of his elbows fit into the sockets on his feet; these are supposed to connect together in vehicle mode.They do so fairly well, but must be disconnected for Menasor's Heavy-Load-added assult-vehicle mode. It actually comes packed like this, though there's no mention of it anywhere.

'''Megatron''' has one goal -- restoring glory and power to the Predacon race, with himself at the helm. What distinguishes Megatron from the countless others who share this goal at various volumes is his chutzpah. He is willing to risk everything -- time, space, himself -- if need be.

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him -- an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them.

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack. He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

On Cybertron, Megatron wore removeable transformable armor, which transformed into a missile-launching armored platform, over his basic bodyframe (which transforms into a hovertank). This quickly-discarded outer shell was possibly used to comply with the ratification of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], which required Predacons to lay down their arms. A Predacon field commander before the peace, Megatron refused to comply with these new regulations and struck out on his own to destroy the [[Maximal Imperium]].

With some [[Cryotek|help]] from [[Divebomb (G1)|various sources]], he assembled a crew of ragtag criminals and miscreants for the purpose of stealing the Golden Disk and using it to find [[Earth]]. Succeeding in stealing the disk, he, [[Dinobot (BW)|his lieutenant]], and [[Scorponok (BW)|another accomplice]] fought their way out of the [[Archives]], eliminating [[Unit 1|one guard]] and dodging [[Tigatron|another]]. They were swiftly picked up by the ''[[Darksyde]]'', a ship stolen by the rest of their crew.

Megatron instructed [[Tarantulas]] to study the disk for the coordinates of Earth while the ''Darkside'' battled its several pursuers. Although they were followed by the Maximal ships [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']] and the ''[[Chromia 10]]'', the ''Darksyde''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission was also aided by a third ship crewed by the Predacon agents [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] and [[Buzzsaw (G1)|Buzzsaw]]. Though the ''Chromia 10'' and the Predacon ship were destroyed, the ''Darksyde'' was still followed by the ''Axalon''. After stealing the Maximal relic, the [[Golden Disk]], and [[Darksyde|a ship]], he and his crew were followed through a [[transwarp]] portal by the [[Axalon (BW)|''Axalon'']]. After crashing on a planet that was supposed to be [[Earth]], yet seemingly wasn't, both the Maximals and the Predacons took organic beast forms to protect themselves against the massive amount of Energon radiation. Megatron now transformed into a purple ''Tyrannosaurus rex''.

Dinobot chastised Megatron, accusing him of leading the Predacons to the wrong planet and challenged Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron simply ignored the challenge and had Scorponok dispose of him. {{storylink|Beast Wars, Part 1}}

Despite the loss of a formidable crony, Megatron positioned himself on the new world and the "Beast Wars" began. Being on a world filled with Energon allowed [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to find a superhorde, and power himself to great levels. With this power, Terrorsaur was able to demolish Megatron in battle and take over the Predacons. However, through the Maximals' actions, the superhorde was destroyed. Terrorsaur was eventually ridden of his newfound power and returned to an angered Megatron, who was rebuilt by [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]]. {{storylink|Power Surge}}

Again, Terrorsaur tried to usurp Megatron, this time using an apparently-turned [[Rattrap]], who used a device to paralyze Megatron. The Predacons argued over who would be leader, but agreed to put Rattrap and Megatron away for the time being. Megatron was able to easily escape using his secret vioce commands, leaving Rattrap to his fate. Revealing himself to have escaped, Megatron allowed Terrorsaur to lead the Predacons in battle with the Maximals. Terrorsaur failed miserably, showing his ineptitude to the Predacons, which was Megatron's plan all along. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}}

Megatron later formulated a plan to get off Earth. First, he had the other Predacons act dissatisfied with his leadership, causing a battle that apaprently destroyed the Predacons, using a Maximal spy camera that he was aware of to play out the trick. Then, the Maximals scavenged the ''Darksyde'' for parts to repair the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s stardrive. Dinobot discovered the deception and rushed to warn the leaving Maximals. In the scuffle, Megatron sneaked aboard. In the ''Axalon'', he managed to knock out every Maximal on the ship but Rattrap, who he started crushing to death. An angered [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] woke up and threw Megatron off the ''Axalon''. However, Megatron's tail weapon was stuck in the console, causing the ''Axalon'' to crash. Later, Megatron caught wind of the return of the [[Vok]] and called a ceasefire between the two factions, realising he had more important things to worry about. The Vok did indeed return, and planned to destroy the planet the Transformers were on with their massive [[Planet Buster]] (cleverly disguised as the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]). Optimus Primal managed to stop the planet buster after flying close to it within a modified stasis pod. Megatron added a little surprise for Primal within the pod, though; locking the door so that Primal could not escape and was destroyed when the planet buster exploded. {{storylink|Other Voices}}

The [[quantum surge]] from the exploding planet buster bathed Megatron in quantum energies, upgrading him into a [[transmetal]]. Megatron quickly rallied his forces and attempted an all-out attack on the leader-less Maximals. Megatron and the Predacons took the upperhand in battle until a transmetal Optimus Primal (brought back online by [[Rhinox]]) saved the day. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors, Part 1}}

With both factions now aware that the planet they were stranded on was really prehistoric [[Earth]], Megatron was free to put his full plan into motion. Locating the crashed [[Ark]], Megatron attempted to alter history by assassinating the unconscious [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. By doing so, he would presumably ensure the defeat of the [[Autobot]]s and thus the victory of the [[Decepticon]]s and Predacons. {{storylink|The Agenda, Part 3}}

The Maximals managed to save Prime's life by having [[Teletraan-1]] repair his body while Optimus Primal kept his spark within his own structure, transforming his body into a more powerful form. The Maximals defeated Megatron and returned Prime's spark to its proper place. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Megatron was not to be outdone. He managed to sneak inside the Ark (which was now the new Maximal base) and take the spark of the original Megatron, seeking to replicate the effect Optimus Prime's spark had on Primal's body. He placed his namesake's spark within his body, transforming himself into a powerful dragon. With this newfound body, Megatron was able to give Optimus Primal a sound beating, until chased away by the entire Maimal group. {{Storylink|Master Blaster}}

Megatron's next evil scheme involved the legendary Decepticon battleship, the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]. After finding the ship deep beneath the ocean, Megatron intended to pilot it back to the future and lay waste to the Maximals on Cybertron. {{storylink|Nemesis, Part 1}} First, however, he planned to annihilate the Ark on prehistoric Earth. Primal infiltrated the Nemesis and kept Megatron busy until Rhinox could fly a shuttlecraft through the bridge and take the Predacon out. The Nemesis crashed a second time and thus preserved history.

"Beast Megatron" took command of the Decepticons, leading them on a quest to collect a powerful element, [[solitarium]], from within the Earth. Beast Megatron's plans were quickly thwarted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and a troop of time-displaced Autobots and Maximals, including [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]], [[Victory Leo]], [[Leo Prime]] and Beast Megatron's arch nemesis, [[Optimus Primal]].

Beast Megatron later discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath [[New York City]], and along with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Smokesniper]], [[Gigant Bomb]] and [[Wingstun]], laid waste to the Big Apple. The Autobots, accompanied by [[Reverse Convoy]], arrived and dealt with Beast Megatron's forces quickly. However, Reverse Convoy revealed himself to be the original Megatron in disguise and betrayed them. Now going by the name [[Megatron (G1)#Robot Masters (Japan-only)|Rebirth Megatron]], he teamed up with Beast Megatron and the pair made trouble for the Autobot commanders. When the Maximals arrived in their shuttle, they found the planet empty aside from countless [[Vehicon|mindless drones]] controlled by Megatron. Megatron's drones immediately bombarded the Maximals with [[devolving gas]] to revert their powerful [[Transmetal]] bodies to normal beast mode bodies, and they were also affected by a [[transformation lock]] virus which Megatron had used to help him conquer the planet in the first place.

Despite his best efforts, the Maximals escaped, and learned to transform again after Primal used the [[Oracle]]'s power to [[reformatting|reformat]] them. They began making short work of his Vehicons, so he removed three sparks from his collection to create [[Vehicon general]]s which could think on their feet in battle. For the generals he chose sparks of Transformers that the Maximals already knew, such that if they ever discovered the sparks' identities, they would be reluctant to destroy them: [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] became [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]], [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] became [[Tankor]], and [[Waspinator]] became [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]].

Ultimately, Megatron succeeded in capturing the sparks of all the Maximals, leaving just Optimus Primal and himself as the only two Transformers on the entire planet. At the end of a fierce one-on-one fight, in which Megatron wore a copy of the powerful Optimal Optimus body, Megatron began consuming his amassed sparks, growing ever more powerful. However, when he attempted to use the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] to transform the planet's [[organic core]] into [[technomatter]], Primal managed to dislodge them both. They plummeted into the planet's goopy core and, somehow, Primal was able to reformat the entire planet, destroying himself and Megatron completely, but freeing all the lost sparks to repopulate their newly redecorated planet.

He had a long-standing rivalry with [[Big Convoy]], though there was a mutual respect between the two enemies.

On board his ship the [[Dinosaur]], he tracked Big Convoy and his [[Maximal]] recruits to the planet [[Gaia]] where he learned of the [[Angolmois]] capsules that had been launched from the self-destructing [[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]]. Magmatron immediately set a course to track them down, desiring their incredible power. Competing with Big Convoy, Magmatron secured numerous capsules for the Predacons.

However, he did not keep them long. The [[Blentron]]s, a trio of super-powerful and freakish Transformers, stole the capsules from both factions. As it turned out, the Angolmois energy was really the lifeforce of [[Unicron]]. Offering up Galvatron's corpse as a new body, the Blentrons released the Angolmois energy and Unicron was reborn.

Magmatron immediately challenged the Chaos Bringer but was quickly vanquished into a wormhole, leaving his crew of Predacons leaderless and rather ineffective. Magmatron escaped the wormhole toward the end of the Unicron battle, after Unicron had possessed Vector Sigma, and willingly fought side-by-side with Big Convoy and the Maximals to stop their mutual enemy.

After a lengthy battle, Unicron was defeated and driven from Vector Sigma by Big Convoy's Matrix Buster. Putting aside their rivalry, Big Convoy and Magmatron formed an alliance. The Maximals and Predacons then worked side-by-side and hand-in-hand to rebuild their ravaged planet.

Tired of waiting for the [[Tripredacus Council]] to act, Magmatron recruited a small band of disenchanted warriors. Keeping his plans secret until the last moment, he revealed that the Council has ordered him to pick up where their previous agent failed: capture the rogue [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]].

Chronally displacing his crew, so that they cannot be detected by the beast warriors who are already there, they set to work. He ordered [[Razorbeast]] to begin activating the [[stasis pod]]s while [[Spittor]], [[Manterror]], [[Transquito]], and [[Iguanus (BW)|Iguanus]] reported on their progress. They witnessed the birth of three Predacons, but Spittor was greeted by the Maximal [[Polar Claw]]. More Maximals were spotted, revealing Razorbeast as a spy. The red warthog escaped into the wilderness. {{storylink|The Gathering, Part 1}}

Once his new army was assembled, Magmatron ordered them to hunt down the Maximals. [[Drill Bit (BW)|Drill Bit]] and Spittor, however, accompanied Magmatron on his personal quest to find Razobeast. He located the spy and quickly gained the upper hand with his three dinosaur modes. But Razorbeast pulled a fast one, and buried the Predacon leader beneath a mountainside. Iguanus, having located a blank protoform, assisted Magmatron with rebirthing Ravage in a new, [[Transmetal 2]] body. After issuing seek-and-destroy orders to his new lieutenant, Magmatron set forth on his next mission. He located Megatron, and the two engaged. Megatron insisted that Magmatron was foolish for coming after him alone, like Ravage, but Magmatron was not alone. Iguanus and Drill Bit ambushed Megatron.

With the [[transwarp shunt]] set up and ready to send Megatron into the hands of the Council, it was with reluctance that Mamatron again did battle. This time, an intruding [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] challenged the Predacon schemer. A tough fight, Magmatron's triple beast modes eventually won out. Grimlock was enough of a distraction, however, to let Razorbeast and [[Optimus Minor]] enter his camp. Magmatron was thwarted by Razorbeast in hand-to-hand combat. As the Predacon lunged toward Minor, who is sitting upon the unconscious Megatron, the monkey activated a chronal displacement device. This sent Megatron back into his own chronal place, making Magmatron stumble onto the transwarp shunt. A heroic, honorable group, they are comprised mostly of generic, domestic vehicles such as cars, trucks, or rescue vehicles. This is not ''always'' the case, however, as their ranks certainly contain neer-do-wells, malcontents, and unsavory types, plus the neccessities of war mean there are many with more combat-oriented alternate forms.

==Generation 1==
Throughout the various versions of Generation 1, the Autobots and [[Decepticon]]s are the two rival factions that try to control Cybertron. Oddly, their motives are the same: bring Cybertron to a golden age of prosperity. However, the Decepticons believe this means subjegation and military power, while the Autobots think that wisdom and cultural advancement are the way to go.

Dispite being the good guys, they didn't always win every battle or even control Cybertron. In [[The Transformers: The Movie|the movie]], the Decepticons went so far as to force the Autobots onto the planet's twin moons, all but eliminating their influence. If it hadn't been for Unicron, they may even have lost.

Throughout the Unicron Trilogy, the Autobots switched motives after each major conflict. At first, they were attempting to liberate smaller robots, called [[Mini-Con]]s, from the tyrannical control of [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]], who saw them as tools to be used and disposed of when no longer needed. The Autobots followed the Mini-Con's ship to Earth, where they crashed and eventually continued their battle against the Deceptions (some two-million years later. Geez, Megs can hold a grudge).

These two sides would unite to fight the Chaos Bringer, [[Unicron]], when he threatened to devour Cybertron. With Megatron sacrificing himself to save the rest of the Universe, Unicron shut down and was destroyed. The remaining Transformers united as the Autobots, following Megatron's order to assist them in rebuilding Cybertron.

====Energon====

Megatron's final orders to his troops still stood: work with the Autobots. The Decepticons maintained a degree of autonomy, still wearing the faction sigil and often taking military/defensive positions in the growing number of energon-mining colonies, but they were ultimately answerable to Optimus Prime and the Autobots. There were, of course, dissenters, most of which were captured and imprisoned. For a decade, Autobot and Decepticon worked side-by-side in a somewhat stable truce.

Both sides found themselves the target of attacks from Unicron again; hordes of Terrorcon drones, sent by Alpha Quintesson to steal energon ore with which to revive the now-shattered husk of Unicron. What the alien did not count on was that Megatron's spark had survived within the remains, and was siphoning energon from Unicron's body. Soon the Decepticon leader had revived himself in a new form, drove off Alpha Quintesson, and along with an elite cadre of soldiers and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of mindless Terrorcon drones, began his new plans for conquest.

When news of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, hundreds of Decepticons rose up and rebelled, eager to get back to conquering. But having been joined to Unicon for so long apparently had given Megatron a taste of godhood; he had no more interest in amassing a galaxy-spanning army of troops. Countless Decepticons died in the resulting battles, with Megatron more than willing to sacrifice them without a thought to attain ultimate power for himself. As the "Powerlinx Battles" -as they came to be called- came to their climax, Megatron found that his actions and thoughts were being influenced and controlled by the dark spark of Unicron. Unwilling to let Unicron stand in his way, Megatron ultimately sacrificed himself (again) and seemingly destroyed Unicron's spark by plunging himself into a newly-formed energon sun created by Primus.

====Cybertron====

Another ten years after Energon, the Energon sun created by Primus was gone, collapsed into the [[Unicron Singularity]], a giant black hole threatening to devour all of existance. In death, Unicron's power to destroy his only oppostion - Primus - was greater than ever. The Autobots searched for a method of destroying the Black Hole and found a single answer; the Omega Lock, a powerful artifact linked to the Spark of Primus. With it, the Universe could be saved... or destroyed. Seeing an opportunity to rebuild existance in his own image, Megatron sought out the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys.

As the two sides battled for the Keys, the Autobots would eventually find all four and use them to revive Primus, but in doing so caused a massive earthquake that began shattering the planet around them.

Or so they thought.

Primus was emerging from Cybertron, awakened from the body he sculpted into a world for his creation. When informed of Unicron's destruction, he was infuriated to find that the universe was out of balance because of a severe lack of evil. Until Starscream attacked his weakened form, due to the smaller robot stealing a piece of his spark and becoming an even equally huge monster, but was quickly dispatched by his creator. Defeated, Starscream flew off, leaving the Autobots to seal the Black Hole. Once this was accomplished, Galvatron attempted an escape from his fire dimention, but by combining Vector Prime's sword with the Omega Lock, the portal was sealed, the the Autobots returned home in peace.

The remaining Decepticons joined the Autobots, save for 4 who left Earth to start the New Decepticon Army. Their ship made it to Mars before being caught in the gravity well, and one of them may have attacked the [[Transformers (2007)|Mars Beagle II rover]].

Alpha Trion repaired her to the best of his ability, but revealed to Optimus Prime that only '''he''' could save Elita by interfacing to her with his power filter. An astonished Optimus Prime stated that only his CREATOR could know that!

I've noticed that there is some argument about the accuracy of Starscream's toy. Some thing that the vehicle mode is accurate, while others think not. Judging from the toy gallery on Seibertron.com, it looks very accurate except for the blasters formed from his hands, which are severly oversized compared to both the movie model and the toy itself. Other than this though, the majority of the figure seems to be pretty accurate.

:If you know anything about fighters, then you'll know its an appallingly bad representation of an F-22 Raptor (has details closer to a YF-22, if I recall correctly). Hasbro/Takara have unfortunately produced better F-22-type planes in the past with Energon Starscream, and the cancelled NATF swing-wing version of the fighter with G2 Hooligan. ::To be perfectly honest, I will agree that it fits closer to the submodel than the main fighter, but at the same time I was looking at the two pictures side-by-side. In cases such as this, color is irrelevent considering Gen 1 Starscream was originally considered a highly unlikely paint-job for an F-15... until they adopted it. Admittedly, the arms and undercarriage do make the toy itself look less like the actual jet than the movie model, but they are also grossly different; Starscream's triple guns on his hands in the movie are MUCH smaller, and had to be enlarged for the toy to meet safety regulations. And while I do not exactly have a degree in the field, I do like to study up on military hardware, especially jets, tanks, and some of the newer guns (the XM-8 in particular).
