:Ginrai is a human and Autobot Godmaster from the Super-God Masterforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Being a soldier is not the life for Ginrai (ジンライ Jinrai). Command structures, fixed routines, forced formality, following orders, knowing your place and toeing the line are his complete antithesis—so it was really the worst luck in the world for him to be born Japanese. A Nagano native, Ginrai found the atmosphere of his home country unbearably stifling, and left for the United States at the young age of seventeen to "find himself." The very definition of a free spirit and a lone wolf, he took a job as a long-haul truck driver for Union Transportation which offered him the freedom and solitude of the open road. Despite his desire for isolation and self-exploration, however, he is hugely popular amongst his "brothers" in the trucker fraternity, as his easygoing personality allows him to get along with people like a house on fire.

Ginrai's life was turned upside down when he discovered that he was an Autobot Godmaster and became bonded to a Transtector from the G Nebula. Now wearing the visage of the legendary Autobot commander Optimus Prime, Ginrai has found his entire worldview changed by the evil of the Decepticons, a force he painfully realizes is too great for him to overlook. It would not, Ginrai figures, be a good thing for the Decepticons to rule the world. After all, he lives there.

Ginrai's signature attack technique is the "Atomic Fire Guts", which sees him condense his Chōkon Power into his gun and release it as a blast of roiling flame. Ginrai can combine with his own trailer to become Super Ginrai, upgrading his attack into the more-powerful "Special Fire Guts", and then again with the drone Godbomber to become God Ginrai. As God Ginrai, his Fire Guts attack is powered up once more, becoming the ultimate single-strike final attack known as the "God Fire Guts", which transforms Ginrai's entire body into a blazing fireball.

The events that would bring Ginrai into contact with the Transformers began an indeterminate number of years ago, when the super-energy alien being and self-styled "Decepticon god" Devil Z stole several Transtectors, including one intended to be used by the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime, from an area of space known as the G Nebula. Already filled with the Tenchōkon of the nebula, the Transtectors were then scattered across the Earth by Devil Z, that they might absorb the planet's Chichōkon. Devil Z planned to have human beings bond to the Transtectors, adding their inherent Jinchōkon to the equation, thereby creating a new super-robotic lifeform: Godmasters. Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!

Through undivulged circumstances, the Transtector intended for Prime assumed the form of a red tractor trailer cab and came to rest in a small garage in California. The unwitting garage owner rented the cab to several truckers, but always found it returned early with complaints of unusual, even supernatural, incidents.

Two years after coming to America, Ginrai happened to be transporting an ill dolphin from Baney Aquarium to the Ocean Research Institute of California, which was run, unbeknownst to him, by the Autobot Pretender Diver. Destiny stepped in when Ginrai's truck broke down on the way, and he pulled in at this very garage, where the owner rented him the Transtector to complete his delivery. In the glove box of the cab, he discovered a pair of Master-Braces and slipped them on his wrists, only to discover that he was unable to remove them. When Diver laid eyes upon the bracelets, he recognized the basic design of them and insisted that Ginrai take him back to the garage where he had found the truck. On the way, however, they were attacked by the Decepticon Godmaster brothers Hydra and Buster, who forced the truck off a cliff. Accidentally touching the bracelets as he attempted to escape the crushed cab, Ginrai was infused with the Masterforce, and a suit of armor materialized around him, healing both himself and the Transtector as they combined and transformed. Now a Godmaster himself, Ginrai saw the shocked Decepticons off. A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai

Ginrai was at first unsure of what to make of his new powers and was not entirely keen on joining the Autobots, as the notion of operating as part of a command structure and being tied down to a specific place ran directly counter to his desire for freedom in his life. Although he promised to aid them when necessary "for the sake of the world"—a mantra for which he admitted he had a weakness—he soon bore witness to the true evil of the Decepticons when Hydra and Buster killed several of his fellow truckers while searching for him. In spite of this, Ginrai was still not entirely willing to join the Autobots, but fate would continue to pushing him into doing so. Ginrai: God On of Rage!!

Ginrai soon suffered a prophetic dream, after which he discovered three more pairs of Master-Braces in his Transtector, indicating the presence of more Godmasters on Earth. When Ginrai brought the bracelets to Japan for study at the Autobot base, A Strange Friendship: Cancer and Minerva events began to escalate as his Transtector activated on its own, transporting Ginrai to his birthplace of Nagano, or more specifically, a construction site at the base of Mount Yatsugatake there. Blasting for a tunnel through the mountain had been blocked by a mysterious object, which proved to be a trailer for Ginrai's truck, which burst from the tunnel during another battle with Buster and Hydra. Friend or Foe!? The True Form of the Monster!! Later still, the two brothers lured Ginrai into a public battle so that they might blame the conflict on him and turn public opinion against the Autobots. The plan failed, but a friend of Ginrai's offered the suggestion that his becoming a Godmaster was the will of God Himself. Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai

Not long thereafter, in a battle with King Poseidon, Ginrai discovered that his cab and trailer were capable of performing a "Double On", merging together to create the super-robot "Super Ginrai". Heroism!! The Birth of Super Ginrai Additionally, after appearing on television in hopes of locating the remaining three Godmasters, to whom he would give the Master-Braces, Ginrai successfully located Lightfoot, Lightfoot: A Dramatic Encounter Ranger An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger and Road King and recruited them to the Autobot side. Assemble! The Four Godmaster Gunmen During this time, Ginrai was also challenged to a duel by the wandering Six Changer, Sixknight, who had been manipulated into doing so by the Decepticons. Sixknight lost the fight and was shocked to discover that he had been bested by a human being, A Powerful Foe!! Sixknight the Wanderer but was affected so deeply by Ginrai's explanation for how this could be so that he wound up siding with the Autobots. After this string of successes the Autobot leader Metalhawk stepped down as commander and requested that Ginrai take his place. After some deliberation and much hassling from the other Autobot Pretenders, who wouldn't let him say no, Ginrai accepted. The Autobot Warrior, Sixknight?!

When Grand Maximus arrived on Earth to inform Ginrai's Autobots of the impending arrival of the Decepticon super-weapon, BlackZarak, he provided them with the schematics necessary to create the drone Godbomber. Life? Death? The Desperate Lightfoot Metalhawk and the Pretenders raced to finish the construction of Godbomber, but as the so-called "Bomber Project" neared completion, Ginrai was lured into the desert by a disguised Buster and Hydra (under the auspices of performing some stunt driving for a movie) and was attacked and beaten within an inch of his life by the Decepticon Ambassador of Destruction, Overlord. Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!? Following a failed attack on the Bomber Project facility, Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!? the barely healed Ginrai insisted upon taking the fight to the Decepticons, combining with the completed Godbomber to form "God Ginrai". God Ginrai - Into the Sky!! In his new form, Ginrai confronted Overlord and BlackZarak on the moon, where he fully embraced his role as protector of Earth and defeated the Decepticons with the aid of Grand Maximus. God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon

Upon returning to Earth, Ginrai was lured into a trap in the Middle East by Overlord, during which Godbomber revealed a hidden power by transforming into a robot mode. Overlord - Terror of the Chōkon Tornado Godbomber's robot mode also helped save the day when Ginrai and Lightfoot were entombed in a cave when attempting to stop the eruption of an underwater volcano, Escape!! The Underwater Volcano Erupts leading the Decepticons to target him for destruction. Luring Ginrai to the heartland of America, the villains ambushed and badly wounded the Autobot leader, leaving him unable to use his Chōkon Power to animate Godbomber. Luckily, the day was saved when the Headmaster Juniors discovered they were able to take control of Godbomber together. Destroy Godbomber!!

When it seemed as though the Autobots had finally been joined by the final Godmaster, a young man named Clouder, Ginrai welcomed him into their ranks with open arms. Metalhawk, however, proved to be less trusting, and soon exposed Clouder as a Decepticon spy. Unfortunately, this was not enough to stop the plan the Decepticons had put in motion; while Ginrai and the Godmasters were occupied battling Buster and Hydra in a nearby city, the Autobot base was crippled by Clouder's sabotage and attacked by the rest of the Decepticons en masse. Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!! Ginrai was unable to prevent the destruction of the base, but was approached by Clouder in the aftermath. Clouder had been left to die in the base by the other Decepticons, and now wanted to work with the Autobots, which Ginrai permitted. Disaster! The Autobot Base Explodes

After failing to contact Grand Maximus, Ginrai headed out into space to search for him and found him trapped inside a powerful black hole. Ginrai too fell victim to the singularity's pull, but he and Grand Maximus were able to combine their energies to destroy it from within and escape. The black hole had, in fact, been created by BlackZarak, who had been able to travel to Earth and join the Decepticons there during Ginrai's imprisonment. BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space With BlackZarak now bolstering their forces, the Decepticons' campaign grew ever more aggressive, with Ginrai only just managed to save the planet from the villains' unholy Death Para-Machine. Crisis! The Day of Human Extinction

When Shūta was captured by the Decepticons, Ginrai was forced to come to the villains' base alone and unarmed in exchange for his safety. Things looked bad for the heroes until the self-doubting Decepticon Cancer finally switched sides and saved the day. God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base With Cancer's aid, Ginrai was able to lead the Autobots in an all-out attack on the Decepticon base, during which Devil Z fused with BlackZarak, creating an even more powerful composite foe. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!!

After conclusive final battles with Hydra and Buster Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn and Overlord, Autobots! Desperate Attack!! Ginrai confronted the fused Devil Z/BlackZarak entity atop the Matterhorn. Ginrai saved Overlord from danger after Devil Z turned on him. He was about to destroy both Ginrai and Overlord but Sixknight came to his rescue. He told Ginrai to assemble the Autobots wile he battled BlackZarak. After much urging to stay with him Ginrai went to get the other Godmasters. However this would be the last time he would speak to Sixknight as Devil Z unleashed a big bolt of Devil Power on the Autobot Six Changer and destroyed him. Angered by this Ginrai decided to fit BlackZarak alone. Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z As their battle raged down the mountain, Ginrai succeeded in decapitating the villain, but BlackZarak simply assumed a new, serpentine alternate mode and kept on fighting. The Headmaster Juniors boarded Ginrai's chest cockpit and joined their energies with him, allowing him to destroy BlackZarak's body with his God Fire Guts attack, exposing Devil Z. As the alien raged impotently, Ginrai and the Juniors united every last drop of their Chōkon Powe into the almighty Final Fire Guts attack, which destroyed Devil Z once and for all.

With Devil Z's death, the bond he had forged between Transtector and human ceased to exist, and Ginrai and the other humans were separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors, however, had been evolved through their partnership with the humans and continued to exist as true super-robot life forms. Having been imprinted with his human partner's personality, Ginrai's Transtector departed for space to pursue the surviving Decepticons and rejoin the greater war. A Battle... and Then...
The Ginrai Transtector—now having taken its human partner's name as its own, becoming known as Ginrai itself—joined with the Autobot forces in space, where he became good friends with Star Saber and his adopted human son, Jean. Before long, Star Saber was appointed Supreme Commander of the Autobots, while Ginrai became commander of the Defense Force for Space Sector Two. The Brave Hero of the Universe - Star Saber Operating out of a base in the G Nebula, Ginrai's time was occupied battling the Decepticon forces under Overlord's control, so much so that Star Saber occasionally had to respond to emergencies in Sector Two, such as a Breastforce attack on planet Micro. Planet Micro - The Mysterious Warrior
Liokaiser}} and also later when Star Saber was lured into a trap on Earth by Decepticon Emperor of Destruction Deathsaurus. Confronting Deathsaurus in battle, Ginrai was struck by a blast from the villain's Living-Metal-Destroying Cannon and fatally damaged. A Deadly Battle Despite the best medical efforts of Perceptor, Wheeljack, and Minerva, Ginrai's body was left useless and immobile. Due to a slip by Perceptor, however, he learned of the existence of a reconstruction process conceived by Star Saber that would allow him to become a power-up for the Autobot leader. Star Saber refused to allow him to submit to the process, revolted at the notion of using his close friend's body in such a way, but Ginrai insisted. Ginrai Dies!! Perceptor and Wheeljack brought his life functions to an end, then restored him to Star Saber's specifications as Victory Leo. {{storylink|Fight!! Operating under the direction of the Sparkbots, Marissa Faireborn travelled forward in time from 2007 to witness Ginrai's first battle with Overlord in the desert. Thinking he was Optimus Prime, she kissed him to obtain a fragment of what she believed was the Allspark that had bonded to him (although in actuality, it was a fragment of Unicron's lifeforce). Discovering he was a human man, she was somewhat horrified to find that she had kissed someone other than Optimus Prime, and begged her Sparkbot companion Angela not to tell anyone. Kiss Players (radio drama)
When Ginrai, the first Autobot Godmaster, was discovered in America by Diver, it was immediately arranged for him to travel to Japan to meet with the rest of the Autobots. As Metalhawk and the Headmaster Juniors awaited his arrival at Harumi Wharf, however, they were attacked by the Decepticon Godmasters, Hydra and Buster. The Autobots were unable to match the Decepticons' power, but salvation soon came in the form of a red tractor trailer: Ginrai had arrived, and saw the villains off with a blast of Chōkon Power. In the aftermath of the battle, Metalhawk commented on Ginrai's similarity to Optimus Prime and wondered if he could be his reincarnation. Ginrai dismissed the notion, explaining that he had chosen to do this not because he was fated to, but specifically because he had only one life, and wanted to use it in service of the forces of good. {{storylink|Enter on the Stage! As leader of the Autobots, Ginrai led the heroes in investigating a mysterious Decepticon plan, only for the team to come under attack from what appeared to be a large army of legendary Decepticons, led by Galvatron. Attacked by King Poseidon, Ginrai was severely outmatched until the other Autobot Godmasters, Lightfoot, Ranger and Road King arrived with a trailer for his Transtector. When the Decepticon Ambassador of Destruction Overlord then attacked Tokyo, the newly-formed "God Ginrai" attacked him and lured him into space, where the powerful Decepticon warrior BlackZarak was in process of battling other Autobots there.
After several further battles, events culminated in Devil Z taking over BlackZarak's body and turning against the other Decepticons, attempting to drain Overlord and Ginrai's Jinchōkon Power to transform himself into the ultimate lifeform. Saved by the Autobot Pretenders, Ginrai and Overlord led their respective factions in combining their energies into the "Perfect Transformer Attack" and destroying Devil Z and BlackZarak for good. With Devil Z's death, the bond he had forged between Transtector and human ceased to exist, and Ginrai and the other humans were separated from their Transtectors. The Transtectors, however, had been evolved through their partnership with the humans and continued to exist as true super-robot life forms.
:Super Ginrai was also sold in a gift set with Godbomber, who can interact with Ginrai in several ways. Trailer-mode Godbomber can hook up either directly to Ginrai's cab or to the back of Ginrai's own trailer and be towed along behind him, while any of Ginrai's weapons can plug into the holes in Godbomber's wings and chassis. Most prominently, of course, Godbomber diseassembles into various component parts that combine with Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai. Godbomber's legs become boots known as "God Legs", to which Ginrai's Particle Beam Cannons attach; his chest and wings form the "God Wing" backpack; his arms clip over the top of Ginrai's own as the "God Punch"; and his back becomes a chromed chestplate called the "God Breast", into the top of which the spring-loaded, missile-firing "God Cannon" plugs. The toy also features a secondary, lesser combination referred to as the "God Breaster," which involves attaching the God Breast to Super Ginrai, and plugging Godbomber's wings into his arms.
:The God Ginrai gift set was reissued in Japan in 2002 with the notable modification of blue eyes for the small Ginrai robot and a slightly different shade of red paint on the cab. However, it was notoriously over-produced, and online retailers were still selling it even years later, at greatly reduced prices.
**Accessories: Blue gun, robot head, die-cast Super Ginrai figurine

:Like the other figures in the Transform Jr line, this version of the basic Ginrai cab robot is a simplified version of its larger counterpart. And when we say simplified, we mean simplified—the figure features no Godmaster engine gimmick, and its head is simply pulled off and set aside for transformation. The figure comes packaged with a small die-cast metal figurine of Super Ginrai.

*Shirei Kichi (司令基地 "Command Base") (1988)
**Accessories: 2 red guns, Trailer post, 2 wheel pieces, ramp, Super Ginrai head

:This Transform Jr figure is a simplified version of Ginrai's trailer, which can transform to base mode, hitch up to the separately sold cab robot and combine with it to form Super Ginrai. The toy includes a cardboard mock-up of Ginrai in torso mode to complete the super robot's look in-package.

*God Ginrai (giftset, 1988)

:This giftset includes both the Jr "Ginrai" and "Shirei Kichi" figures and all the accessories which came with them plus the attachments necessary to transform Super Ginrai into God Ginrai. Due to the nature of his construction, though, God Ginrai's fist-holes are blocked off, leaving him unable to hold the weapons which came with his components. Furthermore, as his attachments consist only of two arms and a chestpiece (no boots, no backpack), they cannot combine into Godbomber. The set also includes some sort of plastic "shield" with a cardboard insert depicting the Autobot insignia, which appears to be a pocket or belt clip, or something. We really don't know.
Around half the size of the more familiar Decoys, the two figures were bundled together, attached to a rubber sprue, and came in either blue, red or yellow.
:Part of the ninth wave of Kabaya's Transformers Gum candy toy series, this Ginrai figure is a snap-together model kit cast in blue, red and grey plastic. Although lacking in any paint applications, the figure feature stickers for detail, and retains most of the accessories and features of the actual Ginrai toy. Due to its small size, however, while the Ginrai engine is removable, it cannot transform to human form, nor can the kit combine with Transformers Gum Godbomber to form a Gum version of God Ginrai.
The seventh figure in the series, he was availble in red, blue or yellow, and came with a "Transformers PD Type" comic about himself, "Fight! :The original God Ginrai PVC was re-released in solid metallic golden four the fourth act of the "Super Collection Figure" series, available only as a rare chase figure. The "Fire Guts" concept was apparently the inspiration for the "Powermaster Optimus Prime Spark Attack" figure that was released in the second wave of the Heroes of Cybertron line, although that figure was cast entirely in translucent yellow-orange plastic, rather than solid golden.

Notes
*The human Ginrai's appearance is designed after screen actor Yūjirō Ishihara.
*According to his Tech Specs, there is a generator within Ginrai's Transtector named the Ultra Matrix, which contains far more energy than the Sun. No actual fiction ever featured this device, though it was mentioned in magazines such as Comic Bom Bom.
*Ginrai's supplementary bio card states that he is 20 years old. It also implies that he is an American of Japanese descent instead of a native of Japan.
*Super-God Masterforce head writer Masumi Kaneda stated that God Ginrai (ゴッドジンライ) was named so that omitting every other Japanese syllable yields the word Gojira (ゴジラ), better known in the west as Godzilla.
*According to the episode "The Earth Family of Good and Evil", Ginrai is good at surfing and skateboarding.
*The relationship between Ginrai and Optimus Prime is a bit... sketchy, to say the least. Precisely why Ginrai's Transtector looks so much like Optimus Prime is not detailed in the series itself, with the explanation only being delivered in "Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!". Here, it is stated that the Transtector was created for Optimus Prime, but stolen by Devil Z... only for this to be seemingly contradicted seconds later, when it is said that the Transtector's trailer was to be used by a hero from planet Master. One might presume that this just means the trailer alone wasn't intended for use by Prime, or perhaps that the plan was not to use the Transtector to resurrect Prime, but to create a new Optimus Prime. It's all terribly odd. Whatever the original ill-defined intention may have been, years later, the Kiss Players radio drama clarified things by outright stating the Transtector was created as part of a plan to resurrect Prime after his most recent death. In the manga, Metalhawk makes mention that Ginrai looks like the legendary Cybertron warrior, Convoy. However, nothing is actually mentioned about a relationship with the two other than cosmetic similarities.
*The reissue God Ginrai giftset was the basis for the Commemorative Series "Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor" release, which was notable for referring to the Powermaster figure as "Ginrai," rather than by the traditional name of Prime's Powermaster partner, Hi-Q. Dreamwave Productions' "More Than Meets The Eye" profile series sidestepped any mind-bending continuity conundrums by just presenting Ginrai as a different name for Hi-Q.
*When Hasbro wanted to create an Alternators Dodge Ram toy, Takara reportedly demanded that it be made into Optimus Prime to help the figure sell, only for the Binaltech release of the toy to wind up being solicited not as Prime, but as Ginrai. Ultimately, Binaltech Ginrai was cancelled, and the figure was later released as Prime in the Alternators and Kiss Players lines, but not before Hirofumi Ichikawa produced character and story information to go along with it. This storyline, made available in 2007's unofficial publication, The Transformers Binaltech Stories: Profiles and Technical Specifications, would have seen Ginrai travel back in time from the far future and possess a Binaltech body intended for Roller in order to repair the damage caused to the timeline by Operation: Distant Thunder, thereby preserving his own future. Unlike the unreleased story for his fellow Binaltech cancellation victim, Blackarachnia, which can be fit into the published Binaltech continuity, Ginrai's intended story was modified into Black Convoy's fiction and therefore is not compatible with the official Binaltech continuity.
Although the letters page may have tried to explain it, there's a couple of times when an injured Red is conspicuous by his absence - in The Wrath of Grimlock! Ratchet repairs "all but one" of the Autobots and the exception is explicitly identified as Sunstreaker. Then in the 1986/7 annual there's a listing of all the current Autobots which does not include Red. Timrollpickering 18:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Brawn and Starscream both fall foul of their friends.

Synopsis
After challenging Megatron's authority and being savagely reprimanded, Starscream plots Megatron's downfall. He plans to attack humans indiscriminately until the Autobots come to their defense. This will force the other Decepticons to come to his aid, and together they will destroy the Autobots, proving that Starscream's methods are superior to Megatron's. Unfortunately, Ravage overhears Starscream's plotting and rushes to tell Megatron, but he is spotted, and Starscream attacks him and leaves him for dead.

At the same time, in the Ark, the Autobots are moving a heavy piece of machinery when it slips, and a short-circuit shocks Brawn, knocking him unconscious. After his recovers, he begins to act strangely before eventually violently attacking Sideswipe and then abandoning the Ark.

Some time later, as Starscream attacks the US Air Force Base: Oregon Four-Alpha the other Decepticons discover the badly damaged Ravage, who reveals Starscream’s treachery. Enraged, the Decepticons race off and capture Starscream during his attack. Starscream demands his right to trial by combat.

Brawn, meanwhile, has gone on a rampage in a small town, believing their cars to be enslaved robots... and when the immobile vehicles just sit there, he throws a wobbly and smashes them. The Autobots try to subdue him but are overwhelmed, only winning due to an ambush by Red Alert. The Autobots, unwilling to harm him in battle, use a neuro-tranquilliser to keep him down and take him back to base. Megatron, unwilling to let Starscream off so easily, plans to take advantage of the situation and suggests to Optimus Prime that they allow Starscream and Brawn to fight each other. Desperate to redeem himself, the now repaired Brawn agrees.

The two battle, unaware that Megatron has stationed Ravage nearby with orders to blast Starscream if he wins the battle. The battle goes against Brawn, and it appears that he has been destroyed. Following his orders, Ravage blows Starscream out of the sky, gaining revenge on him. He then lets the other Decepticons believe that it was the Autobots who attacked Starscream, motivating them to get behind Megatron and attack the Autobots.

Unknown to the Decepticons, Brawn was not destroyed. Instead, Mirage projected a hologram showing his death while the real Brawn was taken to safety: the same electric shock that harmed Brawn boosted Mirage's hologram powers!

Back at the Decepticon fortress, Megatron is preparing to launch an all-out attack on the Autobots.

* This was the first Transformers to be written by Simon Furman. He has gone on record as saying that he does not think much of this early work and does not wish to see it reprinted, which may explain the story's absence from the Titan Books reprints.
* Brawn runs someone off the road and they have a fiery crash. No one ever says that he's been pulled out alive...
* Like "Man of Iron" and "Raiders of the Last Ark", it is unclear where this story fits in the Marvel UK continuity. It was originally printed between "The Last Stand" and "The New Order", when the Autobots and Decepticons were deactivated after Shockwave's arrival. It is generally assumed to take place somewhere in US issue #3 or #4, as the Decepticons' encounter with Spider-Man is mentioned.
* This story was reprinted in the Transformers Special 1986 (Collected Comics #4). The story was now printed in full colour and was given a new cover.
* The story was reprinted again in full colour in issues #308-309 & #313-317 of the regular comic. The reprint was interrupted when the plan to give the comic a permanent extra four pages was dropped and there was no room to carry both the reprint and the back-up strip Machine Man in the same issues.
* It was reprinted for the first time in nearly two decades in Best of Starscream, once again in full colour.
:Predaking is a Decepticon Predacon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Predaking is the ferocious fusion of all five of the Predacons: Divebomb, Headstrong, Rampage, Tantrum, and team leader Razorclaw. Predaking is highly unusual, perhaps even unique, among combiners by the successful fusion of each of his component elements' physical abilities and personalities. Most others of his kind are rendered stupid, suggestible, or borderline insane by the merging of minds, but the five Predacons are united by their shared love of the hunt, and produce a single complete persona. Between his physical prowess, unexpected mental acuity, and animalistic, almost instinct-fast hunting actions, Predaking is one of the most dangerous and intimidating weapons ever added to the Decepticon ranks. As a weapon he is without equal; as a warrior he is without restraint. He can lift one million tons without straining a circuit. When Predaking is on your trail, all hope is lost.
Predaking first saw action during the short-lived Decepticon-Quintesson alliance in the year 2005. The Predacons attempted to prevent Blurr, Wheelie, the human Marissa Faireborn and the magnificent Sky Lynx from escaping Jupiter's moon of Io with Metroplex's transformation cog. When the individual Predacons failed, they merged into Predaking, but were quickly defeated by Sky Lynx. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5

Soon afterward, the Decepticons took over the slave mining planet of Dread, forcing the halpess prisoners to mine the super-hard death crystals in a scheme by Galvatron to destroy Cybertron with a giant death-crystal firing cannon. When several slaves were frightened out of the mine by the monster Chaos, Predaking swooped down to recapture the escapees. Later, during an Autobot attack that saw Sky Lynx buried under tons of rock, Predaking separated Blurr, Wreck-Gar, Wheelie and Grimlock from Kup by blocking off the mine entrace with his laser sword. He continued to force the Autobots back to Sky Lynx (who had managed to escape the landslide) while shrugging off their laser fire. Meanwhile, Kup lured Chaos out of the volcano, causing another landslide that this time buried Predaking under tons of rock. Chaos (episode)

During an assassination attempt on the Autobots, the Predacons formed Predaking right before the Quintessons unleashed a nightmare effect on the Transformers. They were all confronted with solidified dream images taken from the mind of Daniel Witwicky. Predaking was quickly overpowered by the creatures and, after he split up, a dragon kidnapped Razorclaw to a distant castle, leaving the Predacons unable to combine again. After the dream-inducer was destroyed and the Predacons were reunited, Razorclaw was ready to resume the battle with the Autobots and ordered the transformation into Predaking. Unfortunately, Headstrong's leg had been injured fighting a giant dream Galvatron, and he was unable to join into their combined form. Without the might of Predaking, the Predacons chose to flee. Nightmare Planet

Predaking was patroling space when he picked up on a Quintesson transmission. Tracing it to a jungle-like planet, he split into his component parts to locate the source of the signal more easily. Once Sky Lynx and the Autobots beat the Predacons to the transmitting journal canister, they reformed as Predaking to renew their vendetta against Sky Lynx. Galvatron and Cyclonus soon joined Predaking, but his interest in revenge on Sky Lynx outmatched their interest in the journal, and Galvatron had to remind Predaking repeatedly and forcefully to keep his mind(s) on the mission. The Quintesson Journal Later on, Predaking fought alongside Galvatron and the Decepticons in Europe, but soon vanished before the whole "Ultimate Weapon" scheme was finished. The Ultimate Weapon

On Earth's moon, Predaking fought alongside the Terrorcon combiner Abominus until they, along with the other "primitive" animal-based Transformers, were called away by Primacron's Assistant. They were led to an ancient world, in the hopes their primitive instincts would defeat Primacron's latest creation, the energy-draining Tornedron. After the defeated Trypticon's corpse seemingly crushed Grimlock, the primitives split up and ran for their lives. The Predacons continued to run until Headstrong declared he would rather stand and fight than die running. Concurring, his fellow Predacons merged with him to form Predaking, but were quickly put into stasis lock by Tornedron. Call of the Primitives
As part of a series of Decepticon attacks on Japan, Predaking and Devastator pursued Broadside in the Sea of Japan. He was later part of the strike force led by the Matrix-possessed Scourge. The Burden Hardest to Bear

After the Hate Plague spread throughout the galaxy, Predaking was seen hunting down Galvatron with Scourge and Cyclonus. How robots infected with homicidal madness could work together as a hunting party, much less share a combined form, is anybody's guess. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2
Years later, after several more Decepticon leaders had come and gone, the faction came under the rulership of the supernatural entity Violen Jiger. This mysterious creature's first action was to recruit a team of Nine Great Demon Generals from Decepticon history; Predaking was enlisted as his "Beast General" and outfitted with new armor and weaponry to make him even more powerful than before. The generals were charged with acquiring the two objects needed for Violen Jiger's ultimate goal: the Autobot super-fuel Energon Z, and the enigmatic, life-giving energy source, the Zodiac.

The Generals then united to attack planet Feminia once again, this time destroying it utterly. Devastator, King Poseidon, Trypticon and Predaking next attacked the Earth, which was where the Zodiac was hidden. Predaking's first outing on Earth was in the course of a hunt by the Predacons against the Autobot leader Optimus Prime. Prime having foiled the Predacons' initial attacks individually, they merged into Predaking and resumed the chase. Essentially Predaking's role in that hunt concluded once he had flushed Prime out into the open and worn him down, thus rendering him vulnerable to the attack of Megatron. The Predacons returned over the Space Bridge to Cybertron. Prey!

Predaking's next foray on Earth was part of a scheme by Shockwave to destabilise Megatron's sanity to such an extent that the way would be clear for Shockwave to take command. Shockwave supplied fake Autobrands to the Predacons (and thus Predaking by extension) and the Predacons ambushed Megatron in the swamps of Florida. Megatron did not recall who the Predacons were thanks to a bout of amnesia connected to his earlier involvement with them. The Predacons had similar difficulties subduing Megatron in their individual forms and merged to become Predaking. Predaking fared little better against Megatron and was rendered unconscious by a blast from the deranged Decepticon's fusion cannon. Gone but Not Forgotten!

Dreamwave comics continuity
Eons ago, the Predacons were banished from Cybertron to Beest, where their higher functions degraded, rendering them feral. Megatron, who had been overthrown by Starscream (well, thrown out of a shuttle), tracked down the Predacons, then modified them to become combiners, creating Predaking. Welcome to the Jungle

Starscream and his Combaticons were in training (with Sky Lynx of all people as a target) when Predaking suddenly arose from the sea, seeking to capture the treacherous Decepticon Air Commander. The Combaticons quickly formed into (the much-less intelligent) Bruticus and counter-attacked by destroying Predaking's shoulder-mounted guns. Forced back, Predaking quickly put down his opponent by firing one of his foot cannons at Bruticus' head, blasting off part of his face.

When Starscream fled, lamenting Bruticus' latest defeat, Predaking attempted to follow until Bruticus crushed one of his wings and threw him onto the island. Damaged, but not defeated, Predaking easily dodged the slow-witted Combaticon combiner's rifle blast, then erected a defensive energy field around himself to deflect the follow-up shot. As Bruticus pondered a possible rifle malfunction, Predaking punched his rival in the face with a spiked knuckle, then impaled the crippled Bruticus upon Headstrong's horn, finally deactivating the Combaticons.

The Predacons and Seacons got into a territorial argument after Megatron's death, which led to a face off between Predaking and Piranacon. Predaking emerged the victor but was stopped by Serpent O.R. before he could finish the aquatic combiner off. The Art of War issue 2 After Serpent O.R. recruited the Predacons into his new Decepticon army, he was tracked down by a group of Autobots and [[G.I. Dropping in front of them, Predaking stated his mission: "Destroy...Autobots! Keep...Jewel! My...Only...Goal!" Rodimus Prime recognized the hulking combination of the Predacons and warned the Autobots that he was tough. Predaking fought the Autobots, but despite being aided by a mass of Decepticon foot soldiers, the Predacon combiner was defeated. Deciding to go back to base, Predaking turned around and flew away. Once Rodimus was sure Predaking was out of hearing range, he expressed gratitude for the fact that Predaking was an idiot. The Transformers (PS2)

* Predaking (1986, 2004)
**Japanese ID number: D-78

:Predaking is, by far, the largest of the traditional central component-leader-type combiner toys. He is formed by combining all five Predacons together. Unlike the Scramble City-style toys such as Bruticus or Defensor, Predaking's arms and legs are not interchangeable. Predaking's limbs can switch sides allowing the construction of a more show-accurate toy. Razorclaw's sonic sword and beast mode cannon serve as Predaking's primary weapons, with Tantrum and Headstrong's back-mounted cannons as his feet.

:Like Defensor and Bruticus, Predaking's components were released in both plastic and metal versions. In his combined mode featuring each member in die cast form, Predaking is rather heavy for a Transformer. A complete combiner weighs in at exactly 1 kilogram (2.2lbs). This however does not upset the balance of the toy, as Headstrong and Tantrum have the bulk of the diecast. Japan only received the plastic versions during the original run of the Generation 1 toyline.

:Hasbro only released the individual Predacons, but a giftset was available in Japan. In late 2004, Predaking was reissued to much rejoicing of people who could not afford the after market prices on a vintage piece. This reissue used metal parts, and the pieces that were originally soft plastic were now hard plastic.
:Released on November 27, 2010 as part of the Celebration 2010 line, Predaking featured significant differences from the previous releases. His yellow plastic was replaced with gold plastic, most of which was painted over gold, as well as replacing the orange, red, black, and gray that he is composed of with metallic fleck equivalents. Nearly every sticker label included in this set is redesigned from the original, and it includes an optional label sheet for each individual figures' robot mode and beast mode eyes, including the combined form. Like the previous reissue, this version featured diecast parts.

:Many of the individual figures featured changes to their face paint in either overall color or application.

:This figure was comes with 3 points towards 2010 Sound Station Redemption campaign, they can be found hidden in the upper right corner front flap of the packaging.
Notes
*Predaking was designed by toy and anime mechanical designer Akitaka Mika, and was the only one of his proposed designs to actually be produced as a toy. This possibly explains why the Predacons do not conform to the then-contemporary Scramble City style of combining.

*A Predaking Action Master was planned at one point, but apparently went no further than a concept sketch. It was intended to be the included rider of a transforming dirt bike. While Predaking was scrapped, the bike was refined and included with the Action Master Axer.

*Incidentally, the aforementioned concept art was found in an Arby's parking lot after the end of 2000, where it had presumably come unstowed.
