This is the safest form of energon, used for transportation and storage.

Fiction
G1 Animated Series
As originally introduced, energon cubes seemed as though they could only be created by Soundwave More Than Meets The Eye, Part 1, who generated the empty cube framework from his similarly-shaped chest, but later, several other Decepticons proved able to produce them as well. It seemed as if energon cubes were a recent Decepticon invention -- precisely when they were concieved is unclear -- as the Autobots were apparently unaware of them until their reawakening on Earth in 1984, when Hound described them to Prime as simply "some kind of cube". By 2005, however, the Autobots had begun to use energon cubes for power as well.

Exactly how an energon cube operates is unclear, especially as their framework appears to be some sort of self-sustaining force field with no internal mechanisms. Most frequently, the empty cube is simply attached to or placed near the energy source from which it is to drain power, and the energy in question is automatically converted into liquid energon that fills the cube. Energon cubes have proven able to transform a vast array of resources into energon, including electricity, magma, oil and steam. The liquid energon within energon cubes is a glowing pink color, although the cubes could also be compressed for easy storage and transport, causing them to take on an irridescent rainbow effect.

It is possible that in the G1 cartoon, "energon" reffers to the cube itself, and not the energy stored within; which partially explains why the Autobots are ignorant of its function (See Hound's comment above) and why energy could be collected from such varied sources.

Beast Wars
In Beast Wars, the naturally-occuring energon on prehistoric Earth appeared only in an unstable raw crystalline form. However, after the Planet Buster baked Earth's surface, the crystals were all either incinerated or somehow "converted" into more stabe cubes. These cubes no longer emitted the dangerous radiation which prompted the Beast Warriors to adopt their beast modes in the first place. They were significantly smaller than G1 cubes and colored blue rather than pink. Rather than some sort of force field containing liquid energon, these smaller cubes may have simply been a different configuration of energon crystal, much as substances like salt can exist as cubical grains but can also grow into more traditional crystalline forms. One energon cube, in particular, was used by Blackarachnia to theaten Tarantulas to remove the mind-link he had with her, or she would detonate the cube near her head, which would also get Tarantulas as well due to their shared minds. He did so remove the link as Blackarachnia wanted. Tangled Web

Toy
Energon Cubes were available with Takara's "TF Collection" reissue of the Insecticons, and the set's redeco, the Collector's Edition Insectron Clone Army (Shothole, Salvo and Zaptrap) box set released in Japan in 2004.

The universal greeting in the Generation 1 universe, introduced in The Transformers: The Movie, is commonly transliterated as Bah-weep-Graaaaagnah wheep ni ni bong.

It is used as a means to express good will toward alien beings when a language barrier is present. However, it does not always work that way. The Allicons on Quintessa initially reacted well to the greeting, but when Hot Rod and Kup ran out of energon goodies, they began chanting it as they attacked the Autobots. However, the Junkions on the Planet of Junk took it rather well even without treats and threw a party, indicating that the Universal Greeting can be roughly translated into "We come in peace", "Take me to your leader", and "Care to dance?", or whatever seems appropriate.

Strangely, humans never heard of it before.

(Note: In the Japanese version, the Universal Greeting is pronounced "Berwip crawna-wi pinibon".)

Universal Greeting Dance
In Robots in Disguise continuity, there also exists a universal greeting dance, used to convince even the most implacable enemies of one's sincerity (presumably by convincing them that one is so willing to throughly humiliate onseself that they could not possibly harbor ill will).

Sapient alien robots and humans can be friends, once they are able to communicate with each other. There is no reason this should not be, if we are to assume the existence of sapient alien robots; beings with the ability to reflect on "life, the universe, and everything" would have a lot in common.

One definite lack of commonality, however, is the ability to reproduce together. Metal robots and flesh creatures just can't have babies, no matter how hard they try. The physiology is simply not compatible. Since the urge to engage in sex is often a major contributor to romantic interest, it may seem unusual for this attraction to exist between a robot and a fleshling -- and yet, throughout Transformers fiction, such examples do exist.

To write them off as silly plot contrivances is easy. It is, however, also easy to write off large sections of the fiction as silly contrivances, which leads us down a dangerous path. Therefore we must assume that, impractical and absurd as it may be, these incompatible species must be similar enough mentally to make romantic attraction, even in the absence of sexual compatibility, possible. This of course presumes that human affection hinges on the desire to procreate and is not an emotional construct based on mutual interest, although the jury is still out on that one.

A list of notable Transformer-fleshling pairs where an inter-species romance was either hinted at or outright stated, is given below.

*Bumblebee and Scarlett
*Cloudburst's Pretender shell identity and the First One of Femax.
*Jazz and Marissa Faireborn.
*Powerglide and Astoria Carlton-Ritz.
*Seaspray and Alana.
*Skids and Charlene
*Sludge and Joy Meadows
*Ultra Magnus and Cindy Newell.
*Starscream and Alexis
*Glide is known to pick up cute human girls and give them rides on his motorcycle mode.

The 2006 Takara radio-drama/toyline Kiss Players introduced a whole line of Transformer/human pairings (that were somehow even more disturbing).

*Autrooper and Atari Hitotonari.
*Hot Rod and Shao-Shao Li.
*Optimus Prime and Marissa Faireborn.
