'''Groove''' is a free spirit, man. A full fuel tank and an open sky above him is all this chopper needs to mellow out and enjoy whatever good vibrations the open road brings his way. One relaxed, easy-going dude, Groove is also a bit of a loner in his soul. He doesn't make a lot of attachments to others, preferring the freedom of an empty highway, but he is always sure to be there with the love when his Protectobot teammates need his help. Groove doesn't like combat or conflict in general, and is always ready to give peace a chance.

Groove combines with his fellow Protectobots to form the right leg of [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]].

When the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] attacked an inhabited city on [[Earth]], Optimus Prime called upon the Protectobots to evacuate the civilians caught in the crossfire. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the [[Sun]] by the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], [[Streetwise (G1)|Streetwise]] and Groove commandeered a meat locker to keep the overheated humans cool. Groove was worried that the humans would freeze in there, but Streetwise assured him that given the constantly rising temperatures outside, the humans would be fine. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

Groove, as part of Defensor, totally blew up [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]. Afterwards, he was with the Protectobots when they helped save some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, Groove extinguishing the flames with his liquid nitrogen. Later still, Groove and the other Protectobots were ordered to help defend [[Ark (G1)|Autobot Headquarters]] from a Decepticon attack. They merged into Defensor and activated his useless force field, which almost immediately deactivated, allowing the Decepticons to blast Defensor back into his component parts. {{storylink|B.O.T. In the year 2006, Groove and the Protectobots were frequently active on both Earth and Cybertron. Shortly before the first Cybertronian peace conference, Groove attended a surprise birthday party for [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel Witwicky]]. He was therefore available to help [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and the other Autobots fend off a Combaticon assault on the conference's shuttle bay. {{storylink|Surprise Party}} On another occasion, [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]'s eyes were stolen under unusual circumstances at [[Autobot City]], and so [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] had [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] on high alert. When the Decepticon [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] began brazenly flying into their air space, Rodimus ordered Groove and [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]] to man the defensive laser batteries and blow him out of the sky.

The pacifistic Groove's response? "Locked and loaded!"

After pummeling Astrotrain with laser fire, the Autobots realized the stolen eyes weren't for [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], but [[Unicron]]. Groove joined Ultra Magnus and a squad of Autobots who traveled aboard [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] to investigate their artificial moon. Back on Earth, the Autobots were asked to help the Dutch authorities deal with French rebels. After dispersing the human aggressors by driving at them in a scary fashion, Groove and the other Autobots defended the human civilians and covered First Aid, who was carrying the downed [[Blades (G1)|Blades]] back to [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]. Later, it turned out the battle was only a diversion to allow [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] to steal Metroplex's [[transformation cog]]. First Aid left the Autobots when he failed to stop the theft. Unfortunately, just as First Aid left, the Autobots were called upon to deal with a rampaging [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]. [[Kenji]], the Autobots' human friend, devised a plan to shoot out the leg components of the Decepticon super warriors. Groove transformed into motorcycle mode and drove Kenji through a flying jump, letting the boy get close enough to [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] to yell out his plan. After Superion zapped out the Decepticons' legs, Groove and his fellow Protectobots slipped on in their place, forcing [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] and [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] to move according to the Autobots' commands. On a security sweep, the Protectobots ran across their old nemeses, the Combaticons, and went into battle. [[Shōki]] and the Trainbots occupied the fiends so that the Protectobots could proceed on to the village and protect the innocent lives. Nevertheless, the Protectobots failed to reach the village, as they were intercepted by the Decepticons' second wave, the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]]s. Both sides ended up agreeing to do battle in a virtual landscape maintained by the powerful computer system at the plant, so that the Decepticons wouldn't damage their prize and the Autobots could insure the safety of innocent lives. Patrolling the computer-generated area of Multi-World known as the Cloud-Steppes, Groove and [[Blades (G1)|Blades]] were attacked by Combaticons [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]] and [[Vortex (G1)|Vortex]]. When the Decepticon fliers severed the floating roadway Groove was driving on, he shouted at Blades to let him save himself and instead catch the Cloud-Steppers who fell with him. ====The Great Transformer War====
Many years later, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and the Decepticons kidnapped [[Doctor Dalton]] of the planet [[Eran]] to increase the potency of their combiner robots. The Protectobots and Aerialbots attempted to storm [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] in order to recover the kidnapped scientist, but were repelled by Scramble City base modes with launcher power (only $9.99 at [[Toys"R"Us]]!). Superion in particular suffered critical injuries. Reconsidering their tactics, Hot Spot transformed to repair bay mode in order to bring the Aerialbots back on-line, while Blades infiltrated Trypticon alone to recover Dalton and the other Protectobots held off Menasor and Bruticus long enough for their teammates to complete their missions. Inside Trypticon, Blades was able to retrieve Dalton with little fuss, as most of the Decepticons were distracted watching the fight. Blades and the Protectobots were dispatched to [[Peru]] with the [[Trainbot]]s when a volcano erupted, leaving a mountainside village in dire peril. Their rescue mission was blocked by the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]]. [[Shoki]] and the Trainbots occupied the fiends so that the Protectobots could proceed on to the village and protect the innocent lives. Nevertheless, the Protectobots failed to reach the village, as they were intercepted by the Decepticons' second wave, the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]]s. Blades and the Protectobots briefly struggled with the Headmasters before forming Defensor, but that left them grouped together and vulnerable to an underhanded attack. Blades and the Protectobots were part of a strike team that flew to the [[Moon (moon)|moon]] to disrupt Scorponok's gathering of Decepticons. They immediately formed Defensor upon entering the battle. {{storylink|Return of the Immortal Emperor}} When the planet [[Sandra]] sent out a distress call asking for energy, the Autobots of Earth responded. While they were loading the Trainbots full of supplies, however, Galvatron and the Decepticons arrived to take the energy for themselves. After the death of Ultra Magnus, the Autobots were desperately trying to pick up the slack during Sixshot's campaign of destruction around the globe. Blades and the Protectobots assembled as Defensor to go out and confront Sixshot at one of the attack sites, but they apparently didn't fare too well. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg}} When the Decepticons seemingly abandoned Earth, Blades and the Protectobots assisted Spike in rebuilding the planet after the enemy's departure. On one occasion, they located Sixshot's old command base. Following a lengthy period of inactivity, the Decepticons renewed their attacks on Earth. With Fortress still off in space, Spike Witwicky dispatched Blades and the Protectobots to attend to the threats. In Canberra, [[Australia]], the Protectobots confronted Bruticus at one of Scorponok's new Death Towers. Shortly after the Protectobots were given life by the Matrix, Optimus and Wheeljack learned of a [[cerebro-shell]] implanted in Prime which had allowed [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] to tap into the Matrix and eavesdrop on their conversations. Reversing the signal, the Autobots learned of a Decepticon plot to steal the energy-converting hydrothermocline. Taking the Protectobots with him for the mission, Optimus moved to intervene on Megatron and his [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons']] plans.

At the industrial site, a human named [[Ethan Zachary]] broke a stand-off between the two forces by suggesting they battle for the hydrothermocline in a virtual game program he had created, so that nothing of value to either side would be damaged in the melee. With their consent, Zachary uploaded Optimus, Megatron, and the two Special Teams into his computer game environment called Multi-World. Blades was teamed with [[Groove (G1)|Groove]], and they maneuvered through an area called the Cloud-Steppes, where cities floated on clouds and absurdly long walkways were supported underneath them. The Combaticon flyers cut loose one of the walkways, sending the ground-bound Groove and a group of Cloud-Steppers flailing and falling. Against his better judgement, Blades caught the falling humanoids instead of saving his teammate. This proved to be a good idea, as the Cloud-Steppers unleashed their patented cloud-in-a-knapsack trick to blind the Combaticons until Groove shot them down. {{storylink|Afterdeath!}}

During [[Nexus Seven|one of their raids]], [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] hesitated to shoot a Decepticon who said he was weaponless. Blades blasted the Decepticon, who was in fact reaching for a weapon, and berated Hound for being "soft". {{storylink|War Without End!}} Then, under the influence of [[Shadow parasite|mind parasites]], he tore an Imperial Decepticon's cable out with his [[Andrew Wildman|teeth]] on an unnamed planet in the [[K'tord Nebula]]. Though officially neutral, the team deployed to counter the threat of [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] in the [[Tagan Heights]]. Blades and the unit joined into Defensor, and attempted to grapple with Devastator hand-to-hand. When it became evident that the two titans were simply causing more damage, the Protectobots split up to deal with Devastator through more subtle means. It was Blades who got the most dangerous assignment of distracting Devastator while his team disabled the rampaging [[Ultracon]] with teamwork.

When the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] attacked an inhabited city on [[Earth]], Optimus Prime called upon the Protectobots to evacuate the civilians caught in the crossfire. Streetwise was carrying civilians when he discovered an injured man and called [[First Aid (G1)|First Aid]] over to help him. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the [[Sun]] by the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], Streetwise and [[Groove (G1)|Groove]] commandeered a meat locker to keep the overheated humans cool. Streetwise assured Groove that given the constantly rising temperatures outside, the humans would not freeze to death. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

Streetwise, as part of Defensor, totally blew up [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]. Afterward, he was with the Protectobots when they saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, catching the humans when [[Blades (G1)|Blades]] blew them off their platform. Later still, Streetwise and the other Protectobots were ordered to help defend [[Ark (G1)|Autobot Headquarters]] from a Decepticon attack. They merged into Defensor and activated his useless force field, which almost immediately deactivated, allowing the Decepticons to blast Defensor back into his component parts. {{storylink|B.O.T. In the year 2006, the Autobots were asked to help the Dutch authorities deal with French rebels. After dispersing the human aggressors by crashing a trash can into them, the Protectobots came under attack from the Decepticons. Streetwise expressed concern that the Decepticons didn't care how many innocent humans they killed so long as they destroyed the Protectobots. Later, it turned out the battle was only a diversion to allow [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] to steal [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]'s [[transformation cog]], First Aid left the Autobots when he failed to stop the theft. Unfortunately, just as First Aid left, the Autobots were called upon to deal with a rampaging [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]]. Hot Spot ordered the remaining Protectobots to combine into Defensor, and they successfully saved a train full of civilians, even without First Aid. {{storylink|The Ultimate Weapon}}

Later in 2006, the Protectobots arrived at the aftermath of the battle between the [[Technobot (G1)|Technobot]]s and [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] at [[Mark Morgan]]'s laboratory. They transported the injured [[Jessica Morgan]] to County General Hospital and watched over her as the doctors restored her ability to walk with an exo-skeletal structure, enraging the robo-phobic senior Morgan. Later, as Earth's orbit was diverted to the [[sun]] by the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], Hot Spot extinguished the flames engulfing the bone-dry crops of a farmer before quickly driving off to the next fire. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

Hot Spot, as part of Defensor, totally blew up [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]. Afterwards, he was with the Protectobots when they saved some window-washers from a burning skyscraper, helping [[Groove (G1)|Groove]] extinguish the flames with liquid nitrogen. After dispersing the human aggressors, Hot Spot was concerned about how they could protect the human civilians from the Decepticons and cover First Aid, who was helping the downed [[Blades (G1)|Blades]]. Later, as it turned out the battle was only a diversion to allow [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] to steal Metroplex's [[transformation cog]], Hot Spot, Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus tried to reassure First Aid of his value to the Autobots when the pacifist medic failed to stop Swindle. Unfortunately, just as First Aid left, the Autobots were called upon to deal with a rampaging Trypticon. Hot Spot ordered the remaining Protectobots to combine into Defensor even without First Aid to save a train full of civilians. After successfully saving them, Hot Spot tracked down First Aid to a junk yard and convinced the latter of his value to the Autobots. {{storylink|The Ultimate Weapon}}
