:''Bruticus is a [[Decepticon]] [[combiner]] from the [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Bruticusg1guido.jpg|right|300px|thumb|''They all combine and kick Superion's behind''<br>''As the big, bad, battlin' Bruticus!'']]
'''Bruticus''' is the combined form of the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticon]] team. A terrifying sight on the battlefield, Bruticus is among the strongest of all Transformers. He can pulverize a suspension bridge with a single 14,000 psi punch. He can lift up to 500,000 pounds. His armor is impervious to most artillery and radiation.

He's also dumb as a sack of hammers. But as far as Decepticon combiners go, [[Devastator (G1)|that's]] [[Menasor (G1)|not]] [[Abominus (G1)|a]] [[Predaking|problem]]. In fact, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] wishes that he had an army of Bruticuses, and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] is thankful that he doesn't.

Bruticus is composed of:

*[[Onslaught (G1)|Onslaught]] (leader)
*[[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]]
*[[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]]
*[[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]]
====''The Transformers'' cartoon====
:''Voice actor:'' [[Roger C. Carmel]] (English), [[Yū Shimaka|Yutaka Shimaka]] (Japanese), [[Edgar Wald]] (Latin American)
[[Image:Bruticus cartoon.jpg|left|135px|thumb|"Bruticus crush... Bruticus destroy human who draw Bruticus wrong!"]]
Bruticus became active for the first time during a battle between [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]]'s rogue Decepticon brigade and Megatron's forces. Anticipating [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s expected moves, he waited for his former leader to order the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] to merge into [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. Starscream then unleashed his surprise—he similarly ordered the Combaticons to form the mighty Bruticus. Though extremely low in intelligence, even by the standards of combined robots, he was also extremely powerful, easily defeating Devastator and sending the remaining Decepticons loyal to Megatron into retreat. Unfortunately, the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] arrived and formed [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], who launched an attack from behind, quickly subduing Bruticus. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 2 threratenShockwave.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Bruticus want be drawn proper!"]]
Starscream and the Combaticons were banished from [[Earth]] on an asteroid, and the group quickly had a falling-out. After Starscream left, the Combaticons attacked [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], easily defeating [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his drones. Thirsting for revenge, the Combaticons reprogrammed the [[Space Bridge]] to pull Earth closer to the Sun, in the hopes of destroying it and every Transformer there. The Autobots and Decepticons temporarily joined forces to retake Cybertron and prevent Earth's destruction, and with Starscream's help, they deactivated the Combaticons once they formed Bruticus through a failsafe device built into the treacherous giant's back. [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] and Megatron agreed that Bruticus must be destroyed, but the Decepticon leader fooled the Autobots by using Shockwave's holographic simulator to make it appear as though Bruticus was destroyed, when in reality the combiner was reprogrammed to be loyal only to Megatron. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 16 brains.jpg|left|135px|thumb|"See! Bruticus head not empty!"]]
Soon afterwards, during Megatron's latest scheme on Earth involving the theft of fighter aircraft using Middle-Eastern criminals, the Combaticons were called into service to defend Megatron's [[Giant Purple Griffin]], a large... thing that apparently pumped oil. Or something. Struggling against the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], the Combaticons formed Bruticus, yet were still knocked over when the Autobot planes twisted a tow cable around his legs. The Decepticon combiner was finally defeated when the Aerialbots ignited the nearby oil wells, causing a massive explosion that sent Megatron, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and Bruticus flying away. {{storylink|Aerial Assault}}

Later, Bruticus wasattacking a human city when BAM! Bruticus was destroyed in battle with Defensor. Only Swindle survived, and he sold the remains of his comrades to various mercenaries, only to be forced to locate and rebuild the Combaticons by Megatron. The reformed Bruticus was then defeated when Megatron's [[orbit disruptor cannon]] was overloaded by the human-built [[B.O.T. (robot)|B.O.T.]], once again sending the Decepticon flying into the sky. {{storylink|B.O.T. (episode)|B.O.T.}}

[[Image:Bruticus punch planebot.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Bruticus punch planebot so hard, make artist draw all over cel!"]]
For some reason, in the year 2006 the Combaticons were idly hanging around as Bruticus during the Decepticon occupation of [[Paradron]]. He served as something of a comic foil for [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], acting as straight-man while Galvatron delivered witticisms that were completely lost on the giant warrior. Also... that old line about "losing your head if you weren't attached to it"? Apparently, you can lose a foot even if it was attached, because [[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]] was seen manning a molecular cannon while Bruticus was in the control room with Galvatron. If you don't watch those feet, they just run right off on their own. {{storylink|Fight or Flee}}

During a Decepticon invasion of Japan, Bruticus was battling Defensor near a dojo. He enraged his opponent by negligently putting the humans in danger with their combat and, once [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] and [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] arrived to back up Defensor, Bruticus split into the individual Combaticons and fled. {{storylink|The Burden Hardest to Bear}}

Invading [[Gregory Swofford|Swofford]] and [[Mark Morgan|Morgan]]'s lab, Bruticus was the first Decepticon infected by the [[Hate Plague]]. {{storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}}
====Scramble City====
[[Image:SCcelMenSupBrut.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Et tu, Bruticus?]]
In 1986, the Autobots and their human allies worked diligently on their "Scramble City" project, a giant mobile fortress. Several Decepticons under the command of Starscream were dispatched to attack the secret construction site, but were defeated by the Aerialbots. Due to Starscream's failure to stop the Aerialbots, the Stunticons were quickly sent in, and soon in the battle formed Menasor. Menasor managed to corrupt Superion's formation by shooting one of ''his own'' limbs onto his opponent, rendering Superion vulnerable. However, he was soon stopped, and Superion regained his balance. Eventually, the Combaticons came in to help Menasor (though not willingly), forming Bruticus. The two tag-teamed against Superion, but were both stopped when [[Metroplex (G1)|Scramble City itself]] was brought into battle to end the conflict. {{storylink|Scramble City: Mobilization}}
[[Image:HeadOn RaidenVsBruticus.JPG|left|200px|thumb|"Bruticus duel with light... poles."]]
Bruticus joined up with several other Decepticon combiners during a Decepticon assault on Cybertron, {{storylink|Four Warriors Come out of the Sky}} but they were all driven away by [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. {{storylink|The Mystery of Planet Master}} When the Combaticons were sent out to stop [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] from finding the [[Matrix of Leadership]], they clashed with the Protectobots again. Both teams combined, but Defensor eventually blasted the mountain behind Bruticus, who was buried in the ensuing rockfall. {{storylink|Birth of the Fantastic Double Prime}} While defending [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] against intruders, the Combaticons formed Bruticus to fight back against the incoming [[Superion (G1)|Superion]]. {{storylink|The Great Cassette Operation}}

Bruticus scuffled with Defensor yet again during a new attack on Cybertron, {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1}} but was defeated by a flying punch to the neck. {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2}} Next up, Bruticus was set with ambushing any Autobots who came to stop [[buridanka|a giant carnivorous plant]] planted by the Decepticons in [[San Francisco]]. When the [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] arrived, Bruticus and [[Raiden]] did battle with energy swords. {{storylink|Head On!! Fortress Maximus}}

Bruticus was formed by the Combaticons as part of Sixshot's major strike on Earth. He attacked an Autobot outpost as four other outposts were being assaulted simultaneously by the other Decepticons. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg}}

On the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], Bruticus later helped a group of Decepticons lead Fortress Maximus away from their base. {{storylink|The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide}} Later, back on Earth, he stood by and laughed as [[Predaking]] sank the luxury liner ''[[Queen World]]'' off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1)}} Finally, Bruticus participated in the large-scale battle with the Autobots at the North Pole, and was seen holding down [[Computron (G1)|Computron]] so [[Abominus (G1)|Abominus]] could kick him. When [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s energy-absorbing satellite started tearing the Earth apart, Bruticus retreated into the atmosphere to watch the results alongside the rest of the Decepticon forces. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)}}
Over fifteen years later, after several more Decepticon leaders had come and gone, the faction came under the rulership of the supernatural entity [[Violen Jiger]]. This mysterious creature's first action was to recruit a team of [[Nine Great Demon Generals]] from Decepticon history; Bruticus was enlisted as his "Flame General" and outfitted with new armor and weaponry to make him even more powerful than before. The generals were charged with acquiring the two objects needed for Violen Jiger's ultimate goal: the Autobot super-fuel [[Energon Z]], and the enigmatic, life-giving energy source, the [[Zodiac]].

{{note|By the time of ''Zone'', Japanese cartoon continuity had already branched off in two similar but distinct directions a few years beforehand. Bruticus was selected by [[Violen Jiger]] as one of his Nine Great Demon Generals, given the rank of Flame General and rebuilt with more powerful armor and weaponry. However, he did jack squat with it; while he joined [[Abominus (G1)|Abominus]], [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] and [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]] on a raid for [[Energon Z]] on planet [[Zone (planet)|Zone]], he did not engage in battle at any time, though he was seen leaving with his comrades when the battle was over. {{storylink|Enter the New Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!}}

The Generals then united to attack planet Feminia once again, this time destroying it utterly. [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]], [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], Bruticus and [[Abominus (G1)|Abominus]] attacked planet Zone, defeating the Micromaster teams and stealing their Energon Z core. ''In a [[Creation Matrix|Matrix]]-induced vision, [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster Witwicky]] and [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] saw the future, where Autobot and Decepticon [[Special Teams]] battled over Earth's resources. [[Image:Bruticus-ukcard.jpg|left|150px|thumb|"Where Bruticus helmet go?"]]
Megatron and the Combaticons invaded [[Energy Futures Industries]] with the intent of stealing the powerful [[hydrothermocline]]. Confronted by Optimus Prime and the Protectobots, Megatron attempted to prove the superiority of his forces by ordering them to combine into... Bruticus! His gloating was cut short, however, when the Protectobots demonstrated the equally impressive ability to combine into... [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]! Fortunately for all sides, the fleshling [[Ethan Zachary]] arrived with a solution that didn't involve Bruticus and Defensor going at it until the entire complex (and the hydrothermocline) was annihilated. {{storylink|Afterdeath!}}

The Combaticons formed Bruticus in a northern [[California]] railyard to battle the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], who subsequently formed [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]. The two soon battled to a standstill, as Bruticus's sonic stun gun proved no match for Defensor's force field, but the Decepticon eventually managed to topple his foe by smacking him around with an ''entire train''. Bruticus then noticed [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]], who claimed to have left the [[Autobot]]s, and seemingly killed [[Sammy Wainwright|a child]] to prove it. Bruticus was created in [[1939]] as part of a plot by [[Destro]] and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] to overthrow their [[Cobra Commander|respective]] [[Megatron (G1)|leaders]]. A fusion of human and Cybertronian technology, Bruticus had no mind of his own, and was made only to follow his creators' orders. {{storylink|Wolves}} Later, when the combined forces of [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] and the Autobots were moving against [[Cobra]], Destro betrayed Starscream and activated Bruticus, ordering him to destroy everyone. Screaming that he hated everything and that he only wanted to "sleep again", Bruticus went on a wild rampage and caused an avalanche. As the giant swept aside any Autobot resistance, [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] deduced that Bruticus was an artificial creation and wasn't really "alive" like the other Transformers. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] saw only one way to stop him—destroying the [[Matrix of Leadership]] that was connected to the lifeforce of all Transformers. **''Japanese ID number:'' '''D-69'''

: Bruticus is formed from all five Combaticon toys. The four smaller Combaticons attach via sockets in Onslaught's shoulders and the bottom of his feet. Fists and feet pads attach onto the four limbs, and Bruticus is completed with a large chest plate and a helmet covering Onslaught's head. He wields Onslaught's [[sonic stun-gun]] in battle. The gun can also be stored on his backpack using two rectangular pegs which hold the gun in place via its targeting sight. As with all [[Scramble City (toyline)|Scramble City]]-style [[combiner]] teams, his limbs can be rearranged into any slot of one's choosing.

: In most markets, only the individual Combaticons were released, and the [[giftset]] was only available in Japan and Italy.

: The individual Combiaticons were re-released in various European markets as part of the "[[Classics (Europe)|Classics]]" line in 1991, and a Bruticus giftset was reissued by [[TakaraTomy]] in Japan in 2009.

: This mold was redecoed and later retooled to make ''[[Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: Operation Combination (toyline)|Operation Combination]]'' [[Battle Gaia]], and ''[[Robots in Disguise (toyline)|Robots in Disguise]]''/''[[Universe (2003 toyline)|Universe]]'' [[Ruination (RID)|Ruination]]. In 2009, this set was reissued under the ''[[Encore|Transformers Encore]]'' line, using the [[retool]]ed molds from the ''[[Car Robots]]'' and ''[[Robots in Disguise (franchise)|Robots in Disguise]]'' lines.

: During ''[[Generation 2 (toyline)|Generation 2]]'' in 1994, only the individual Combaticons were released. ''Generation 2'' Bruticus is a [[redeco]] of the original Bruticus toy, or more accurately, a redeco of the entire Combaticon team. Functionally, he is nearly identical to the original toy, though composed of his entire team's [[Neon|crazy bright colors]], in case Bruticus ever needed to perform recon with [[Megatron (G1)|G2 Megatron]] in one of Earth's many day-glo jungles. The mold is also slightly enhanced by a missile launcher (the same launcher that came with Jazz and Sideswipe) and a post-hole in Onslaught's backpack which allows the launcher to be stored there.

: ''[[Universe (2008 toyline)|Universe]]'' Bruticus, now named Bruticus Maximus (presumably for [[trademark]] reasons), is a redeco of the [[Destruction Team]]/[[Bruticus Maximus (Energon)|Bruticus Maximus]] combiner from ''[[Energon (toyline)|Energon]]''. While [[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]] and [[Vortex (G1)|Vortex]] retain their previous modes of tank and helicopter respectively, [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]] is now the combiner's second tank, and [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] a sand-colored helicopter.

[[Image:Tf universe 25th bruticus a.jpg|left|150px|thumb]]
:Like [[Superion (G1)#Universe (2008)|Superion]], Bruticus Maximus, despite being initially intended as a ''Universe'' [[Target]] [[exclusive]], was only released in ''Universe'' packaging on some non-American markets such as Australia and Singapore. Instead, Target stores (and Zellers stores in Canada) received an unchanged version of the toy in ''[[Revenge of the Fallen (toyline)|Revenge of the Fallen]]'' packaging, still named [[Bruticus Maximus (ROTF)|Bruticus Maximus]], with all the individual components retaining their names as well.
==Notes==
[[Image:EuroClassicsBruticus.jpg|thumb|200px|First person to insert a "Don't shoot the caption" gag gets summarily banned.]]
* Much like the individual Combaticons who form him, Bruticus's animation model has a design difference from the toy. In his case, the chest plate is drawn to look like it is formed from [[Blast Off (G1)|Blast Off]]'s wings, while the rest of the shuttle forms Bruticus's arm.

* The packaging of the 1991 [[Generation 1 (European toyline)|European]] [[Classics (Europe)|Classics]] release of the original Onslaught toy depicted Bruticus and the Combaticons in (mostly) new color schemes, despite the fact that the actual toys looked identical to their original releases. While it may never be known for certain, it has been theorized that these colors were the cause of an error with the hue settings of the [[stock photography|stock photos]], rather than a legitimate attempt to [[redeco]] the Combaticons.

* Several attributes of [[Action Master Elite]] [[Turbo Master]], including his face and chest plate, suggest that he was originally intended to be Bruticus.

* Even though Bruticus sort of saw an [[Action Master]] release in the form of [[Turbo Master]], according to [[Transformers Generations]] at one point a non-transforming version of Action Master Bruticus was planned, which would have looked significantly different from [[Turbo Master]].

* Bruticus is the "Scramble City" robot with the largest number of redecoes, even without counting the differences between the ''Car Robots'' and ''Robots in Disguise'' versions of Baldigus/Ruination.

* For every version of the Bruticus mold, the packaging art depicts the Brawl figure on backwards.

===Generation 1 cartoon continuity===
====''The Transformers'' cartoon====
:''Voice actor:'' [[Roger C. Carmel]] (English), [[Yū Shimaka|Yutaka Shimaka]] (Japanese), [[Edgar Wald]] (Latin American)

[[Image:Bruticus cartoon.jpg|left|135px|thumb|"Bruticus crush... Bruticus destroy human who draw Bruticus wrong!"]]
Bruticus became active for the first time during a battle between [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]]'s rogue Decepticon brigade and Megatron's forces. Anticipating [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s expected moves, he waited for his former leader to order the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] to merge into [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. Starscream then unleashed his surprise—he similarly ordered the Combaticons to form the mighty Bruticus. Though extremely low in intelligence, even by the standards of combined robots, he was also extremely powerful, easily defeating Devastator and sending the remaining Decepticons loyal to Megatron into retreat. Unfortunately, the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] arrived and formed [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], who launched an attack from behind, quickly subduing Bruticus. {{storylink|Starscream's Brigade}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 2 threratenShockwave.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Bruticus want be drawn proper!"]]
Starscream and the Combaticons were banished from [[Earth]] on an asteroid, and the group quickly had a falling-out. After Starscream left, the Combaticons attacked [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], easily defeating [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and his drones. Thirsting for revenge, the Combaticons reprogrammed the [[Space Bridge]] to pull Earth closer to the Sun, in the hopes of destroying it and every Transformer there. The Autobots and Decepticons temporarily joined forces to retake Cybertron and prevent Earth's destruction, and with Starscream's help, they deactivated the Combaticons once they formed Bruticus through a failsafe device built into the treacherous giant's back. [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] and Megatron agreed that Bruticus must be destroyed, but the Decepticon leader fooled the Autobots by using Shockwave's holographic simulator to make it appear as though Bruticus was destroyed, when in reality the combiner was reprogrammed to be loyal only to Megatron. {{storylink|The Revenge of Bruticus}}

[[Image:Revenge of bruticus 16 brains.jpg|left|135px|thumb|"See! Bruticus head not empty!"]]
Soon afterwards, during Megatron's latest scheme on Earth involving the theft of fighter aircraft using Middle-Eastern criminals, the Combaticons were called into service to defend Megatron's [[Giant Purple Griffin]], a large... thing that apparently pumped oil. Or something. Struggling against the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], the Combaticons formed Bruticus, yet were still knocked over when the Autobot planes twisted a tow cable around his legs. The Decepticon combiner was finally defeated when the Aerialbots ignited the nearby oil wells, causing a massive explosion that sent Megatron, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and Bruticus flying away. {{storylink|Aerial Assault}}

Later, Bruticus wasattacking a human city when BAM! Bruticus was destroyed in battle with [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] Only Swindle survived, and he sold the remains of his comrades to various mercenaries and [[El Presidente|third-world dictator- only to be forced to locate and rebuild the Combaticons by Megatron. The reformed Bruticus was then defeated when Megatron's [[orbit disruptor cannon]] was overloaded by the human-built [[B.O.T. (robot)|B.O.T.]], once again sending the Decepticon flying into the sky. {{storylink|B.O.T. (episode)|B.O.T.}}

[[Image:Bruticus punch planebot.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Bruticus punch planebot so hard, make artist draw all over cel!"]]
For some reason, in the year 2006 the Combaticons were idly hanging around as Bruticus during the Decepticon occupation of [[Paradron]]. He served as something of a comic foil for [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], acting as straight-man while Galvatron delivered witticisms that were completely lost on the giant warrior. Also... that old line about "losing your head if you weren't attached to it"? Apparently, you can lose a foot even if it was attached, because [[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]] was seen manning a molecular cannon while Bruticus was in the control room with Galvatron. If you don't watch those feet, they just run right off on their own. {{storylink|Fight or Flee}}

During a Decepticon invasion of Japan, Bruticus was battling Defensor near a dojo. He enraged his opponent by negligently putting the humans in danger with their combat and, once [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] and [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] arrived to back up Defensor, Bruticus split into the individual Combaticons and fled. {{storylink|The Burden Hardest to Bear}}

Invading [[Gregory Swofford|Swofford]] and [[Mark Morgan|Morgan]]'s lab, Bruticus was the first Decepticon infected by the [[Hate Plague]]. {{storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}}
====Scramble City====
[[Image:SCcelMenSupBrut.jpg|right|200px|thumb|Et tu, Bruticus?]]
In 1986, the Autobots and their human allies worked diligently on their "Scramble City" project, a giant mobile fortress. Several Decepticons under the command of Starscream were dispatched to attack the secret construction site, but were defeated by the Aerialbots. Due to Starscream's failure to stop the Aerialbots, the Stunticons were quickly sent in, and soon in the battle formed Menasor. Menasor managed to corrupt Superion's formation by shooting one of ''his own'' limbs onto his opponent, rendering Superion vulnerable. However, he was soon stopped, and Superion regained his balance. Eventually, the Combaticons came in to help Menasor (though not willingly), forming Bruticus. The two tag-teamed against Superion, but were both stopped when [[Metroplex (G1)|Scramble City itself]] was brought into battle to end the conflict. {{storylink|Scramble City: Mobilization}}

Bruticus scuffled with Defensor yet again during a new attack on Cybertron, {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1}} but was defeated by a flying punch to the neck. {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2}} Next up, Bruticus was set with ambushing any Autobots who came to stop [[buridanka|a giant carnivorous plant]] planted by the Decepticons in [[San Francisco]]. When the [[Trainbot|Trainbots]] arrived, Bruticus and [[Raiden]] did battle with energy swords. {{storylink|Head On!! Fortress Maximus}}

Bruticus was formed by the Combaticons as part of Sixshot's major strike on Earth. He attacked an Autobot outpost as four other outposts were being assaulted simultaneously by the other Decepticons. {{storylink|The Emperor of Destruction Vanishes on an Iceberg}}

On the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]], Bruticus later helped a group of Decepticons lead Fortress Maximus away from their base. {{storylink|The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide}} Later, back on Earth, he stood by and laughed as [[Predaking]] sank the luxury liner ''[[Queen World]]'' off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 1)}} Finally, Bruticus participated in the large-scale battle with the Autobots at the North Pole, and was seen holding down [[Computron (G1)|Computron]] so [[Abominus (G1)|Abominus]] could kick him. When [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s energy-absorbing satellite started tearing the Earth apart, Bruticus retreated into the atmosphere to watch the results alongside the rest of the Decepticon forces. {{storylink|The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)}}
Confronted by Optimus Prime and the Protectobots, Megatron attempted to prove the superiority of his forces by ordering them to combine into... Bruticus! His gloating was cut short, however, when the Protectobots demonstrated the equally impressive ability to combine into... [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]! Fortunately for all sides, the fleshling [[Ethan Zachary]] arrived with a solution that didn't involve Bruticus and Defensor going at it until the entire complex (and the hydrothermocline) was annihilated. {{storylink|Afterdeath!}}

The Combaticons formed Bruticus in a northern [[California]] railyard to battle the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]], who subsequently formed [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]. The two soon battled to a standstill, as Bruticus's sonic stun gun proved no match for Defensor's force field, but the Decepticon eventually managed to topple his foe by smacking him around with an ''entire train''. Bruticus then noticed [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]], who claimed to have left the [[Autobot]]s, and seemingly killed [[Sammy Wainwright|a child]] to prove it. Bruticus was so impressed that he didn't notice Blaster toppling a power line on him, blasting him into his component parts. {{storylink|Child's Play (issue)|Child's Play}}
Bruticus was created in [[1939]] as part of a plot by [[Destro]] and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] to overthrow their [[Cobra Commander|respective]] [[Megatron (G1)|leaders]]. A fusion of human and Cybertronian technology, Bruticus had no mind of his own, and was made only to follow his creators' orders. {{storylink|Wolves}} Later, when the combined forces of [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] and the Autobots were moving against [[Cobra]], Destro betrayed Starscream and activated Bruticus, ordering him to destroy everyone. Screaming that he hated everything and that he only wanted to "sleep again", Bruticus went on a wild rampage and caused an avalanche. As the giant swept aside any Autobot resistance, [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] deduced that Bruticus was an artificial creation and wasn't really "alive" like the other Transformers. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] saw only one way to stop him—destroying the [[Matrix of Leadership]] that was connected to the lifeforce of all Transformers. On Prime's orders, [[Snake-Eyes]] let Bruticus smash the Matrix, causing a flash of light that destroyed the raging giant. {{storylink|The Iron Fist}}

Functionally, he is nearly identical to the original toy, though composed of his entire team's [[Neon|crazy bright colors]], in case Bruticus ever needed to perform recon with [[Megatron (G1)|G2 Megatron]] in one of Earth's many day-glo jungles.

[[Image:CerebrosG1-TrialByFire.jpg|left|thumb|300px|He probably wouldn't get along well with his cartoon counterpart...]]

After [[Galen]] chose to flee [[Nebulos]] along with the rest of the Autobots under Fortress Maximus's command, the former pacifist had resigned himself to a life of war. He decided that all resources must be put into winning that war, so during the ''[[Steelhaven]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s journey to Earth, he ordered Fortress Maximus's body be doubled in size for greater power in combat. Now, Fortress Maximus's larger head transformed into the Autobot Cerebros, while Galen transformed into the head of Cerebros. (Cerebros was a robot entirely under the control of Galen. {{storylink|Transformers Universe (Marvel comic)|Fortress Maximus's Universe entry}})

Once the Autobots arrived on Earth, they encountered the Decepticons under [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok's command]]. The Decepticons remarked that Fortress Maximus seemed larger than usual, but no matter—Scorponok kidnapped a young [[human]] named [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] and retreated deep into the caverns of [[Mount St. Hilary|the volcano]] that housed the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. The caverns were too small for the larger Fortress Maximus to navigate, so he sent the smaller Cerebros in his stead. When the battle moved to a narrow rock bridge, Cerebros threw his own head into battle. Unfortunately, his head, Galen, perished in battle. Subsequently, Spike Witwicky assumed Galen's role as Cerebros's head (and through him Fortress Maximus's), hoping to aid the Autobots in finding his younger brother [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster]]. {{storylink|Trial by Fire!}}

[[Image:CerebrosG1-everyCerebrosappearanceever.jpg|right|300px|thumb|Cerebros doesn't get to do much beyond the same expository panels over and over and over.]]

After Spike had been surgically altered for the Headmaster process, Spike accidentally revealed his changes to his father [[Sparkplug Witwicky]]. He showed his father how he could transform into Cerebros's head and then into Fortress Maximus's head, and with the Autobot [[Targetmaster]]s at his side, he pledged to his father to find his brother Buster.

Buster had been spotted on [[Club Con|a tropical island]], but [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] refused to let Spike participate for fear of his emotional attachments gumming up their rescue mission. So, Spike, binary-bonded to Cerebros, stood outside the perimeter of the battle. But when the mission failed and the island transformed into a space-faring vessel, launching into space, Spike took matters into his own hands. He and Cerebros recombined with Fortress Maximus and grabbed onto the spaceship as it entered orbit. In space, Fortress Maximus's body was dealt a serious blow from the spaceship through the chest, forcing Cerebros to disengage. This led to Decepticon leader [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] himself confronting Cerebros in combat, and the Autobot was deactivated in one blast. Spike, disconnecting from Cerebros, was eventually able to defeat Shockwave himself. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}}

After Fortress Maximus was repaired, their group of Autobots met the other group of Earthbound Autobots led by [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]. When their two groups met, Grimlock belittled Earth's humans, and Spike showed Grimlock how a "worthless human" led his contingent of Autobots by transforming from Fortress Maximus to Cerebros to his own binary-bonded self. Grimlock laughed and challenged Fortress Maximus to a duel for Autobot leadership supremacy, but the recent damage to Fortress Maximus and Cerebros at the hands of Shockwave worried Spike. Fortunately, [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] was called on to fight in place of Fortress Maximus. {{storylink|Totaled!}}
[[Image:CerebrosG1-ManinMachine.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Later, though, they were a lot more efficient about it.]]

Later, Buster was found in the Arctic due to a distress signal. Cerebros was once again seen when Spike transformed from Fortress Maximus's head to Cerebros and again to Spike's binary-bonded suit to show Buster that he was his brother. {{storylink|Dark Star}} Once Buster was retrieved and home safe, Spike saw no reason to continue his campaign with the Autobots, and so he tried to return to his previous life. Unfortunately, Decepticons came looking for him, and Spike had to telepathically call on the power of Fortress Maximus's body from space. Cerebros was very (very) briefly seen as Spike transformed into Fortress Maximus's head. {{storylink|The Man in the Machine!}}
Cerebros was seen one last time, again merely as an intermediate transitional mode, when Spike was once again called back into action, this time against the increasingly deranged [[Galvatron II|Galvatron]]. {{storylink|The Last Autobot?}}
====Generation 1====
{{note|Cerebros made cameo appearances in the ''[[The Transformers: Headmasters|Headmasters]]'' miniseries as an individual Autobot. However, that series contains many art errors, so the significance of those appearances is questionable.}}

Once the Autobots arrived on Earth, they encountered the Decepticons under [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok's command]]. The Decepticons remarked that Fortress Maximus seemed larger than usual, but no matter—Scorponok kidnapped a young [[human]] named [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] and retreated deep into the caverns of [[Mount St. Hilary|the volcano]] that housed the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. The caverns were too small for the larger Fortress Maximus to navigate, so he sent the smaller Cerebros in his stead. When the battle moved to a narrow rock bridge, Cerebros threw his own head into battle. Unfortunately, his head, Galen, perished in battle. Subsequently, Spike Witwicky assumed Galen's role as Cerebros's head (and through him Fortress Maximus's), hoping to aid the Autobots in finding his younger brother [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster]]. {{storylink|Trial by Fire!}}

Buster had been spotted on [[Club Con|a tropical island]], but [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] refused to let Spike participate for fear of his emotional attachments gumming up their rescue mission. So, Spike, binary-bonded to Cerebros, stood outside the perimeter of the battle. But when the mission failed and the island transformed into a space-faring vessel, launching into space, Spike took matters into his own hands. He and Cerebros recombined with Fortress Maximus and grabbed onto the spaceship as it entered orbit. In space, Fortress Maximus's body was dealt a serious blow from the spaceship through the chest, forcing Cerebros to disengage. This led to Decepticon leader [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] himself confronting Cerebros in combat, and the Autobot was deactivated in one blast. Spike, disconnecting from Cerebros, was eventually able to defeat Shockwave himself. {{storylink|The Desert Island of Space!}}

After Fortress Maximus was repaired, their group of Autobots met the other group of Earthbound Autobots led by [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]. When their two groups met, Grimlock belittled Earth's humans, and Spike showed Grimlock how a "worthless human" led his contingent of Autobots by transforming from Fortress Maximus to Cerebros to his own binary-bonded self. Grimlock laughed and challenged Fortress Maximus to a duel for Autobot leadership supremacy, but the recent damage to Fortress Maximus and Cerebros at the hands of Shockwave worried Spike. Fortunately, [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] was called on to fight in place of Fortress Maximus. {{storylink|Totaled!}}

[[Image:CerebrosG1-ManinMachine.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Later, though, they were a lot more efficient about it.]]

Later, Buster was found in the Arctic due to a distress signal. Cerebros was once again seen when Spike transformed from Fortress Maximus's head to Cerebros and again to Spike's binary-bonded suit to show Buster that he was his brother. {{storylink|Dark Star}} Once Buster was retrieved and home safe, Spike saw no reason to continue his campaign with the Autobots, and so he tried to return to his previous life. Unfortunately, Decepticons came looking for him, and Spike had to telepathically call on the power of Fortress Maximus's body from space. Cerebros was very (very) briefly seen as Spike transformed into Fortress Maximus's head. {{storylink|The Man in the Machine!}}

Cerebros was seen one last time, again merely as an intermediate transitional mode, when Spike was once again called back into action, this time against the increasingly deranged [[Galvatron II|Galvatron]]. {{storylink|The Last Autobot?}}
