==Detailed synopsis==
While watching a car race, [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] and [[Chip Chase|Chip]] comment on how cool it would be to see the Autobots perform in a race as well.

Meanwhile, in an old west ghost town, the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s have completed the [[Transfixatron]], a new device that will lock a [[Transformer]] in the mode they currently occupy (usually vehicle mode). [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] arrives, informing the Decepticons about the Autobot race. [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] complains that [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] is wasting time with the device instead of leading an attack. In response, Megatron tests the device on his whiny subordinate, and it's a success. Starscream is stuck in jet mode and begs to be released, saying he'll do whatever Megatron wants and he's too valuable to the Decepticon cause. Megatron gets bored of Starscream's pleas and frees him. Satisfied with the test, Megatron orders the Constructicons to start working on a second device whose purpose will be revealed later.

Chip and Spike suggest their race idea to the Autobots, and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] agrees, as long as it's for charity. [[Huffer]] complains that it's a waste of time and a bad idea (as usual), but the Autobots decide to do it. Huffer, [[Brawn]], [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] remain to guard the [[Ark (G1)|base]].

The Autobots arrive at the track and wait at the starting line in robot mode before they compete "in the greatest automobile race in history." Some numbskull in the audience wonders aloud where their cars are. The Autobots transform, and the race is on with a whole lot of trash talk. [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]], Sunstreaker and [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] rush ahead of the slower vehicles like Trailbreaker and Ironhide.

During the race, [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] teleports to a position over the track and uses the Transfixatron on the Autobots, who don't notice. The Autobots near the finish line, but they're kicking up so much dust its impossible to tell who won. "The real winners are us, folks!" says the announcer.

Next up, the Autobots line up to do some stunts and make "Evel Knievel look like a kiddie car driver," according to Spike. But Sunstreaker's attempt to jump the other Autobots falls short and he has to be saved by [[Windcharger]]'s magnetic powers.

Before they can do anything else, the Decepticons arrive. The Autobots attempt to [[Transformation|transform]], only to find that they are all stuck in vehicle mode. Optimus orders the Autobots to ram the Decepticons, but they simply shoot out the Autobots' tires, fire rays to make their engines overheat and disable their radios. Helpless, the Autobots are herded away by the 'Cons.

[[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] takes Spike and Chip back to the base, hoping Ratchet and Wheeljack can figure a fix for the Transfixatron ray. As usual, Huffer complains, but a massive bearhug from Brawn gets him to shut up, while Ratchet and Wheeljack get to work.

At the ghost town, Megatron forces Optimus Prime to watch his soldiers die one by one in the Constructicons' second device, a horrific crushing machine, starting with [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]]. The [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]] dispatches [[Roller]] to distract Megatron, allowing Prime to ram the crusher, which frees Ironhide. [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] manages to send a signal to [[Teletraan I]], just as Ratchet and Wheeljack finish working on a device which will allow the Autobots to transform...a grenade. (Real good thinking there, guys.)

Spike and the other Autobots arrive to save their comrades, but [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] dispatches [[Ravage]] and [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] to deal with them. After a game of keep-away with the grenade, Chip manages to get it close enough to release its energy, allowing the Autobots to transform to robot mode. The Constructicons form [[Devastator]], but [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] and Wheeljack fire the Transfixatron at giant Decepticon, causing the [[Combiner]] to separate. The Decepticons retreat, and the Autobots destroy the Transfixatron.

==Animated continuity==

The Earth Defense Command (or EDC) is a joint human/[[Autobot]] military organization dedicated to the protection of [[Earth]] and its solar system. It was founded at some point before 2005, and by that year at least three space stations had been constructed (one in Earth orbit, one at [[Pluto]], and a third near [[Goo]]#8739). This defense is augmented by a [[Mars]] land base, as well as several space vessels that allow quick transit throughout the solar system and beyond.

The Earth orbital station observes traffic to and from the planet, with the authority to call out Autobot and/or human military assistance. The Pluto station served much the same function, its proximity to a [[warp gate]] making it a first line of defense against hostiles from non-Solar worlds. Unfortunately, even with its advanced technology, this battle platform was destroyed in a matter of moments by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and his lieutenants. It is unclear whether the Earth base would survive a similar attack. In 2006, the deep-space station near Goo was demolished by [[death crystal|death crystals]], even though (according to [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]) it was built out of the strongest metal in the galaxy.

On a smaller scale, powerful technology (most likely [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertronian]]) has also been incorporated in land and air vehicles. An EDC car kept up a decent fight during a high-speed road duel involving two [[Stunticon|Stunticons]] and [[Rodimus Prime]]. The car was armed with a roof-mounted blaster (not to mention incredible crash protection and recovery systems). Also, a similar vehicle has been seen flying despite a lack of suitable wings or the noise of conventional propulsion - just like a Transformer.

The hierarchy of the EDC is unclear, although it appears that the Autobots may be ultimately in charge. It's also unclear whether any Autobots are technically considered EDC officers. All the humans wear white uniforms with blue trim; no Autobots have been seen changing their paint jobs to fit in.

The only EDC officer whose name we know is [[Marissa Faireborn]].

===Kiss Players (Japan)===

When Galvatron was hurled out of [[Unicron]] by Rodimus Prime in 2005, rather than immediately crashing onto the planet [[Thrull]], he instead hurtled toward Earth. Landing in Tokyo, Japan, the Decepticon leader's impact decimated the city and scattered his Unicron-mutated cells throughout Earth's atmosphere.

Following this catastrophe, the E.D.C. was formed to drive all [[Transformers]] off [[Earth]]. The organization built an [[anti-electron]] field (previously referred to as an [[Energon]] field) to make the planet uninhabitable to Cybertronians, and created a team of 48 transforming robots known as [[Autrooper|Autroopers]] to combat any Transformers that remained. Although the organization ostensibly defends humanity from attacks by [[Legion]] (monstrous creatures resulting from the fusion of Galvatron's cells with ordinary objects and lifeforms), there may be a more sinister connection between the two groups yet to be revealed, as evidenced by the human testing facility hidden in the E.D.C. headquarters basement and the fact that E.D.C. headquarters was built on Galvatron's impact crater.

==Dreamwave continuity==
The EDC was founded by [[Nathaniel Faireborn]] to deal with extra-terrestrial matters shortly after the emergence of the Transformers in the mid-eighties. Its base of operations is located at [[Area 51]]. Faireborn's intention was to better Transformer/human relations, but the damage the Transformers conflict caused on [[Earth]], along with an Army General with a last name of Witwicky and a talent for hiding from the camera/reader, often made this difficult.
