Such Transformers bodies use Cybertonium in a manner which depletes it over time and it must be replaced. As the element dwindles it causes minor malfunctions such as an inability to fully transform or control their actions, but if it goes on long enough can lead to death. Cybertonium is mined from a [[Cybertonium Pit|pit]] deep in the planet.

While seemingly vital to most Transformers, those with bodies created on other [[Earth|worlds]] however do not require the element.

After fleeing from battle with the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], the [[Decepticon]]s began to suffer minor malfunctions which they attributed to bad [[Energon]]. Attacking a power station to refuel, the Decepticons were confronted by the [[Autobot]]s, but the battle devolved into a stalemate as both sides began to suffer from increasing malfunctions.

As their conditions worsened, [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] concluded that both sides were being affected by Cybertonium depletion. Having also learned the real problem, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] contacted [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], and had him prepare a shipment to be sent over the [[space bridge]]. Both factions sent groups of Transformers created on Earth and thus full functional, the Dinobots and [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s, to retrieve the shipment. Both groups fought and ended up destroying the Cybertonium, with the Dinobots ending up on Cybertron and refusing to assist those on Earth. With the Autobots fading fast, [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] and [[Carly]], over the objections of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], travelled across the space bridge to get some more Cybertonium. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1}}

Arriving on the homeworld of the Transformers, the human pair avoided Shockwave but damaged the computer controlling the space bridge and prevented even the Decepticons receiving more of the vital element. Searching Wheeljack's lab, Spike and Carly ran into [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom explained that the Dinobots were captured and re-programmed to work in the Cybertonium Pit. While attempting to rescue their friends, they were in turn captured and forced to work in pit. *The introduction of Cybertonium throws a spanner in the works for determining the origins of the newer second-season characters such as Perceptor, [[Blaster]], [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]], etc. Previously it could be assumed they had simply arrived from Cybertron or some other planet, but the fact that their Cybertonium deteriorates in exact synch with the earlier characters suggests that they were also aboard the Ark and went through the same four million year slumber as the 1984 characters. Why we didn't see any of them for the first year is therefore a bit of a mystery within the context of the stories.

*Likewise it adds to the controversy surrounding the origin of the Constructicons, the fact the group can function and even form [[Devastator]] would seem to imply they were created on Earth as seen in [[Heavy Metal War]], yet later in season two [[The Secret of Omega Supreme]] states they were originally from Cybertron. If the Constructicons were merely rebuilt on Earth, why can't other Transformers be rebuilt in similar fashion to not require Cybertonium?

*While in Headmasters Cybertonuron is noted as being many times stronger than Cybertonium, stated with the implication that Cybertonium is unusually strong itself, there is nothing indicated in either Desertion of the Dinobots episodes that it's a metalic or used in a alloy.

In robot mode, Menasor's chest panel flips down to reveal a space for Heavy Load to fit in his robot mode. The panel also has a double-barreled flip-down (non-firing) blaster. * Menasor's vehicle mode actually connects together better than shown in the stock photos (the official instructions and show model do not even acknowledge that the connectors exist). The plugs on the backs of his elbows fit into the sockets on his feet; these are supposed to connect together in vehicle mode.They do so fairly well, but must be disconnected for Menasor's Heavy-Load-added assult-vehicle mode. It actually comes packed like this, though there's no mention of it anywhere.

* Like the other Gigantions, Menasor's "work" robot mode is only seen in the [[Cybertron (cartoon)|''Cybertron'' cartoon]] as a halfway point in his vehicle-to-robot stock footage transformation sequence.

Bumblebee is attacked by a prehistoric flying dinosaur which Powerglide manages to save him from after which they examine the island briefly before leaving after another dinosaur attempts to attack them.

Returning to [[Autobot]] [[Ark (G1)|headquarters]], they inform [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] of the find while a test of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] is made. Its decided that the Dinobots are simply too chaotic to work safely at headquarters but Bumblebee suggests the newly discovered island as a new home for the Dinobots to which Prime agrees. As Spike, Powerglide and the Dinobots head off to the island, they are shadowed by [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] who transmits his findings to [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. Megatron takes his [[Decepticon]]s to the island where they begin to tap the islands energy reserves; much to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] objections noting various instabilities on the island. The draining of the islands energy reserves results in numerous time rifts forming all around the planet bringing denizens from Earths past into the present which include barbarians on mastodons, pirates and cowboys. The Decepticons manage to gain the upper hand and are about to win when the Dinobots return and bring their new friends, the dinosaurs, to the Autobots aid. The Decepticons are defeated by the dinosaurs and retreat. After a long search through the Middle East, the Decepticons began having their suspicions that the lost Decepticon was in fact [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], who Create-A-Bot dismissed as a relic.

After the other Decepticons left Create-A-Bot to his own devices, Starscream finally arrived on Earth, personally greeting Create-A-Bot by nearly landing on him. Finally explaining his motives (in his own ass-backwards Starscream way) he lied through his teeth saying that releasing Megatron would cause the downfall of the Decepticons, and that the [[AllSpark]] was actually on Earth (which it was). He then explained (lying again this time) that he simply wanted the AllSpark to prevent a power struggle as he would need his full attention on preventing Megatron's revival.

That didn't work.

Once Starscream got a hold of the AllSpark, Create-A-Bot had already helped to liberate Megatron from his icy tomb and led him back to Tranquility, where the Decepticon tyrant and his NEW second-in-command would face off against the traitorous jetfighter. Starscream used the power of the AllSpark to power himself up to new levels (ignoring the precedent of over-powered Starscreams from inexplicably causing their own downfall) and attacking his former boss.

That didn't work either.

Outwitting the empowered Starscream, Create-A-Bot stole the AllSpark from him and smashed him in the chest, weakening him enough to have his [[Spark]] extinguished by Megatron. Create-A-Bot would die on that spot, the backlash from the AllSpark overpowering his circuits, but he died a warrior and a true Decepticon.

Megatron returned after Starscream's defeat only to watch and laugh as Create-A-Bot slowly died. Though he contains no traces of the Predacon Shell Program like [[Blackarachnia]], his rowdy nature and love of violence made the actual facts irrelevant. Quickstrike generally filled an infantry/trooper role and followed the orders he was given. However, he does have two notable instances when he was manipulated into betraying Megatron.

[[Tarantulas]] easily pushed Quickstrike's buttons and the two, along with [[Blackarachnia]], formed an "arachnid alliance" of their own. Their plans never came to fruition, because they were interrupted by the [[Maximal]]s, and Megatron never found out. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} After a device of Tarantulas' took over [[Optimus Primal]]'s body, Quickstrike was put in charge of the golem that controlled it. Once the Maximals were defeated, and the [[Ark]] open, Quickstrike (under orders from Tarantulas) used his control over Optimus to toss Megatron into the lava surrounding the Ark. The plan backfired when Megatron rose from the lava more powerful than ever,{{storylink|Master Blaster}} and Quickstrike was put on "trial" for betraying Megatron. Concerned with [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] constant futzing with the timestream, the Vok extracted the Sparks of the inert, captive Maximals [[Tigatron]] and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]]. Their bodies were merged together to form the staggeringly powerful Tigerhawk. Inhabited by two members of the Vok species, Tigerhawk travelled to Earth as a blindingly powerful energy comet.

Tigerhawk's energy-ball plunged to Earth, impacting and utterly destroying the [[Darksyde]]. Declaring himself the emmissary of the Vok, he charged Megatron with "the willful disruption of time and space", and demanded Megatron's immediate surrender. Megatron was not so keen on this idea, and ordered a Predacon attack instead. Tigerhawk engaged and defeated the entire [[Predacon]] force, then shot down Megatron. [[Optimus Primal]] arrived at that point, concerned that if Megatron was killed, the Spark of the original Megatron would also be destroyed, thus worsening the damage to the time stream. Tigerhawk dismissed Primal's concerns as intolerable interference, and buried him in the ground with a wave of his hand. Tigerhawk was seconds away from executing the unconscious Predacon leader when Tarantulas disabled him with specialized versions of his arachnoid helper-drones.

Tigerhawk awoke to find himself a captive in [[Tarantulas]]' lair. The spider attempted to destroy Tigerhawk's mind by forcefully removing the Vok presence inhabiting it. Due to a fluke coincidence, Tarantulas only succeeded in destroying himself, alongside the Vok who had controlled Tigerhawk. The Sparks of Airazor and Tigatron, which followed Tigerhawk to Earth, merged to become one and entered Tigerhawk's body.{{storylink|Other Victories}}

Tigerhawk's memories appeared vague{{m-}}at first he seemed not to remember being Tigatron or Airazor, yet after a moment he recognized Earth as "home". Even for the flagship of the Decepticon space fleet, one might have considered the armament on the ''Nemesis'' to be overkill. In addition to the standard energy weapons used by the Decepticons, the vessel carried a massive amount of [[missile]]s, which could be fired slowly in a swarm of rocket propelled death. A [[tractor beam]] could pull anything beneath it up to be sliced and grounded up by rotating blades and drills. The blades were incredibly sharp, being able to slice through solid rock.

Imbued with near-limitless power, Megatron then attempted to destroy the Autobots, and almost succeeded, until the Heart of Cybertron was removed from his body and destroyed by [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], [[Brawn]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]].

The ''Nemesis'' was the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]], and the most powerful warship ever built.

According to myth, it was responsible for shooting down the Ark. It was revealed that [[Tarantulas]] had discovered the wreckage of the ''Nemesis'' deep under water, and had been refurbishing it for unknown purposes. Following Tarantulas' death, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] discovered the rebuilt ship and commandeered it as a last ditch attempt to rewrite history and destroy the Ark. {{storylink|Nemesis, Part 1}}

Using the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s awesome power, Megatron managed to kill [[Tigerhawk (BW)|Tigerhawk]] as well as [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] by accident. In the final battle, the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s controls were severely damaged by [[Rhinox]] and [[Optimus Primal]]. Even for the flagship of the Decepticon space fleet, one might have considered the armament on the ''Nemesis'' to be overkill. In addition to the standard energy weapons used by the Decepticons, the vessel carried a massive amount of [[missile]]s, which could be fired slowly in a swarm of rocket propelled death. A [[tractor beam]] could pull anything beneath it up to be sliced and grounded up by rotating blades and drills. The blades were incredibly sharp, being able to slice through solid rock.

Given that Megatron himself would have be the ship's normal commander, it shoould not be surprising that the primary weapon on the ''Nemesis'' was a [[fusion cannon]]. The fusion cannon was powered by its own reactor, apparently separate from the main [[Energon]] supply. The reactor needed to be at one hundred percent capacity to fire a blast, and would require a powerup time between blasts.

After returning to Earth following Shockwave's defeat on Cybertron, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] used the ''Nemesis'' as his base of operations. It is unknown if the warship had previously been used for this purpose by the Decepticons or if Starscream rediscovered it after returning to Earth.

==Overview==
Eons ago on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], the Autobot-Decepticon war is in its early stages, with the vicious [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] cutting a swath through the ranks of the Autobots. When the previous Prime is killed, the High Council chooses a common data entry bot to step up and become the new leader: Optimus Prime. But not everyone is happy with the new choice, as his initial command decision is to surrender Cybertron to the Decepticons. Meanwhile, Megatron works to activate planetary scale engines which could remake the face of Cybertron. He needs one thing to power them... and Optimus Prime has it.

''The War Within'' was the first of any series to seriously re-imagine G1 characters as they might have appeared on Cybertron; before, pre-Earth Transformers were often just simplified versions of their Earthen selves, if they were redesigned at all.

The series was written by long-time Transformers scribe [[Simon Furman]], marking his return to mainstream Transformers comics. Pencils were by [[Don Figueroa]], who also did the redesigns of dozens of [[Generation 1]] characters for the series.
