213.114.35.34: /* Generation 1 cartoon */ This goes a bit back-and-forth from past and present tense

:''Cybertonium is a Cybertronic element found in the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

'''Cybertonium''' is a green crystaline element found only on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and is used in construction of [[Transformer]] bodies on that planet. Such Transformers bodies use Cybertonium in a manner which depletes it over time and it must be replaced. As the element dwindles it causes minor malfunctions such as an inability to fully transform or control their actions, but if it goes on long enough can lead to death. Cybertonium is mined from a [[Cybertonium Pit|pit]] deep in the planet.

While seemingly vital to most Transformers, those with bodies created on other [[Earth|worlds]] however do not require the element.

==Fiction==
===Generation 1 cartoon===
After fleeing from battle with the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], the [[Decepticon]]s began to suffer minor malfunctions which they attributed to bad [[Energon]]. Attacking a power station to refuel, the Decepticons were confronted by the [[Autobot]]s, but the battle devolved into a stalemate as both sides began to suffer from increasing malfunctions.

As their conditions worsened, [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] concluded that both sides were being affected by Cybertonium depletion. Having also learned the real problem, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] contacted [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], and had him prepare a shipment to be sent over the [[space bridge]]. Both factions sent groups of Transformers created on Earth and thus full functional, the Dinobots and [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicon]]s, to retrieve the shipment. Both groups fought and ended up destroying the Cybertonium, with the Dinobots ending up on Cybertron and refusing to assist those on Earth. With the Autobots fading fast, [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] and [[Carly]], over the objections of [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], travelled across the space bridge to get some more Cybertonium. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1}}

Arriving on the homeworld of the Transformers, the human pair avoided Shockwave but damaged the computer controlling the space bridge and prevented even the Decepticons receiving more of the vital element. Searching Wheeljack's lab, Spike and Carly ran into [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom explained that the Dinobots were captured and re-programmed to work in the Cybertonium Pit. While attempting to rescue their friends, they were in turn captured and forced to work in pit. After Carly re-programmed the other Dinobots, the group was able to escape back across the now repaired space bridge with enough Cybertonium to save their fellow Autobots. {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 2}}

===Headmasters animated series===
During the [[The Headmasters|Headmasters conflict]], [[Vector Sigma]] developed an alloy called [[Cybertonuron]] that was many times stronger than Cybertonium. {{storylink|Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1}}

==Items of Note==
*The introduction of Cybertonium throws a spanner in the works for determining the origins of the newer second-season characters such as Perceptor, [[Blaster]], [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]], etc. Previously it could be assumed they had simply arrived from Cybertron or some other planet, but the fact that their Cybertonium deteriorates in exact synch with the earlier characters suggests that they were also aboard the Ark and went through the same four million year slumber as the 1984 characters. Why we didn't see any of them for the first year is therefore a bit of a mystery within the context of the stories.

*Likewise it adds to the controversy surrounding the origin of the Constructicons, the fact the group can function and even form [[Devastator]] would seem to imply they were created on Earth as seen in [[Heavy Metal War]], yet later in season two [[The Secret of Omega Supreme]] states they were originally from Cybertron. If the Constructicons were merely rebuilt on Earth, why can't other Transformers be rebuilt in similar fashion to not require Cybertonium?

*While in Headmasters Cybertonuron is noted as being many times stronger than Cybertonium, stated with the implication that Cybertonium is unusually strong itself, there is nothing indicated in either Desertion of the Dinobots episodes that it's a metalic or used in a alloy.

:''Menasor is a citizen of [[Gigantion]] from the [[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]] portion of the [[Unicron Trilogy]] [[continuity family]].

[[Image:MenasorCyb-Biggun.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Ey, ya wee beasties!]]

'''Menasor''' is filled with rage. He finds his planet's laws stifling and stupid, and believes his people are destined for greater things than merely building with no seeming goal in mind other than to continue building. On top of that, being one of the younger Gigantions, he feels that he's simply not given the respect he deserves from [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] and the others. As such, he's joined up with [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] and his [[Decepticon]]s, who have promised much to the disillusioned worker.

Menasor is always accompanied by his [[Mini-Con]] partner [[Heavy Load (Cybertron)|Heavy Load]], who doesn't seem to share Menasor's anger, and sometimes tries to set the rebellious machine straight.

===Cybertron===
*'''Menasor''' (Ultra, 2006)

[[Image:MenasorCyb-Toy.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Mech design by the [[wiki:Pirate_characters Bonne Family|Bonne Family]].]]

: Menasor transforms into a Cybertronic (Gigantian?) excavation machine. He has an "assault" vehicle mode that widens the space between his drills and separates the plow halves on his front so his partner [[Mini-Con]] [[Heavy Load (Cybertron)|Heavy Load]] can fit in, expanding the blade's width. In robot mode, Menasor's chest panel flips down to reveal a space for Heavy Load to fit in his robot mode. The panel also has a double-barreled flip-down (non-firing) blaster. He also has an alternate "work" robot mode, which widens his stance and reverses the direction of his knees.

[[Image:MenasorCyb-workmode.jpg|left|thumb|150px|Move sixteen tons, and whaddaya get? 'Nother day older and deeper in debt.]]

: Menasor's drill-arm gimmicks are fully functional in all modes. Placing a Mini-Con on the [[Powerlinx]] plug on his right drill unlocks the spring-activated grippers to the side, plus unlocks the drill, which can extend by pushing the Mini-Con forward. The left drill spins through a gear-wheel mechanism on its underside, while plugging a [[Cyber Planet Key]] to its Key jack activates electronic lights and sounds. He comes with a silver-bordered Gigantion-style Cyber Planet Key with the [[Cyber Key Codes|Key Code]] "'''us4r'''" [[tampograph]]ed on the back.

: The Mini-Con hardpoints on his knees are notable for being awkwardly placed; in his true robot mode, the legs can't be positioned staight down because the pegs bump into each other. This gives the Menasor an unusual bowlegged stance, and additionally adding Mini-Cons to the pegs will prevent him from being able to stand at all, since the added robots would make Menasor actually have to do a split.

: In Japan, Menasor was only available through [[e-Hobby]]'s online ordering service, in [[Hasbro]] packaging, in October of 2006... ten months after ''Galaxy Force'' stopped in Japan.

{{-}}

==Trivia==
[[Image:MenasorCyb-lock.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Ka-chonk, ka-chonk.]]

* Menasor's vehicle mode actually connects together better than shown in the stock photos (the official instructions and show model do not even acknowledge that the connectors exist). The plugs on the backs of his elbows fit into the sockets on his feet; these are supposed to connect together in vehicle mode.They do so fairly well, but must be disconnected for Menasor's Heavy-Load-added assult-vehicle mode. It actually comes packed like this, though there's no mention of it anywhere.

* Like the other Gigantions, Menasor's "work" robot mode is only seen in the [[Cybertron (cartoon)|''Cybertron'' cartoon]] as a halfway point in his vehicle-to-robot stock footage transformation sequence.
'''Dinobot Island''' is the name given by [[Spike Witwicky]] to an island on [[Earth]] that can only be accessed by flying through a mysterious energy column floating over the ocean. It is primordial, populated by dinosaurs, and rich in volcanic energy.´

The island's position in time is unclear: It may be somehow trapped in a temporal bubble, isolated from the timestream; or the energy column may be a gateway to the entire prehistoric world, with the island being simply the nearest bit of land. Most evidence points to the former theory, but altering the island ''will'' produce strange temporal effects elsewhere in the present.

At any rate, what it sorely lacks in explanation, it makes up for in woo [[dinosaur]]s!
==Fiction==
===Generation 1 cartoon===
After scouting some strange power readings, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] and [[Powerglide]] encounter an unknown island in the middle of the ocean. Bumblebee is attacked by a prehistoric flying dinosaur which Powerglide manages to save him from after which they examine the island briefly before leaving after another dinosaur attempts to attack them.

Returning to [[Autobot]] [[Ark (G1)|headquarters]], they inform [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] of the find while a test of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] is made. Its decided that the Dinobots are simply too chaotic to work safely at headquarters but Bumblebee suggests the newly discovered island as a new home for the Dinobots to which Prime agrees. As Spike, Powerglide and the Dinobots head off to the island, they are shadowed by [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] who transmits his findings to [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. Megatron takes his [[Decepticon]]s to the island where they begin to tap the islands energy reserves; much to [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream's]] objections noting various instabilities on the island. The Dinobots eventually learn of the Decepticon presence on their island and attack but Megatron uses the Dinosaurs to stampede and force the Dinobots off a cliff and into a tar pit. {{Storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}}

The draining of the islands energy reserves results in numerous time rifts forming all around the planet bringing denizens from Earths past into the present which include barbarians on mastodons, pirates and cowboys. The Autobots learn of the Decepticon presence on Dinobot island and lay siege to Megatrons forces there. The Decepticons manage to gain the upper hand and are about to win when the Dinobots return and bring their new friends, the dinosaurs, to the Autobots aid. The Decepticons are defeated by the dinosaurs and retreat. Optimus Prime and the Dinobots destroy the [[Energon]] cubes collected which release the energy back to the island thus replenishing it. {{Storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 2}}

However, the island did not remain under solely Autobot control. Twenty years later, [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] sent [[Trypticon]] to Dinobot Island to recuperate after his first battle with [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], and the Autobots were completely unaware. It was there that [[Octane (G1)|Octane]] enlisted Trypticon's help in his plan to use [[Carbombya|Carbombyan]] oil to take over the Decepticons. All of this was only mentioned in passing, so no details are known about the state of the island or the extent of the Transformers' continued use of it. {{storylink|Thief in the Night}}
At first, little information was divulged to the other Decepticons until Starscream arrived on Earth himself. In the mean time, Barricade reluctantly showed Create-A-Bot the ropes, and later put him in charge of the other Decepticons. After a long search through the Middle East, the Decepticons began having their suspicions that the lost Decepticon was in fact [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], who Create-A-Bot dismissed as a relic.

After the other Decepticons left Create-A-Bot to his own devices, Starscream finally arrived on Earth, personally greeting Create-A-Bot by nearly landing on him. Finally explaining his motives (in his own ass-backwards Starscream way) he lied through his teeth saying that releasing Megatron would cause the downfall of the Decepticons, and that the [[AllSpark]] was actually on Earth (which it was). He then explained (lying again this time) that he simply wanted the AllSpark to prevent a power struggle as he would need his full attention on preventing Megatron's revival.

That didn't work.

Once Starscream got a hold of the AllSpark, Create-A-Bot had already helped to liberate Megatron from his icy tomb and led him back to Tranquility, where the Decepticon tyrant and his NEW second-in-command would face off against the traitorous jetfighter. Starscream used the power of the AllSpark to power himself up to new levels (ignoring the precedent of over-powered Starscreams from inexplicably causing their own downfall) and attacking his former boss.

That didn't work either.

Outwitting the empowered Starscream, Create-A-Bot stole the AllSpark from him and smashed him in the chest, weakening him enough to have his [[Spark]] extinguished by Megatron. Create-A-Bot would die on that spot, the backlash from the AllSpark overpowering his circuits, but he died a warrior and a true Decepticon.

That didn't go over too well.

Megatron returned after Starscream's defeat only to watch and laugh as Create-A-Bot slowly died. As the young Decepticon pleaded to be repaired, Megatron would only say that his weakness was his downfall, and that all of the Decepticons who fell in battle were worthless pawns to be stripped away like rust. Create-A-Bot then watched in horror as Megatron leapt at him, tearing him apart.
'''Quickstrike''' is a spastic, violent, triggerhappy cowboy who rarely thinks beyond the next "keister he's gonna kick." This simple-minded lust for beating people up seems to be his overriding personality trait. While this makes him easy to manipulate, which [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] finds extremely useful, the problem he has found is that Quickstrike is ''so'' easy to manipulate that Megatron's not the only one doing so! Both [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] have their hooks in him in some form or another, leading Megatron to perhaps try controlling the vicious little bugger through the good old-fashioned method: fear of death. Quickstrike may be stupidly brave most of the time, but only to a point.
Relishing his role as a Predacon from the moment he stepped out of his [[stasis pod]], Quickstrike fit right into [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] band. Though he contains no traces of the Predacon Shell Program like [[Blackarachnia]], his rowdy nature and love of violence made the actual facts irrelevant. Quickstrike generally filled an infantry/trooper role and followed the orders he was given. However, he does have two notable instances when he was manipulated into betraying Megatron.

[[Tarantulas]] easily pushed Quickstrike's buttons and the two, along with [[Blackarachnia]], formed an "arachnid alliance" of their own. Their plans never came to fruition, because they were interrupted by the [[Maximal]]s, and Megatron never found out. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} After a device of Tarantulas' took over [[Optimus Primal]]'s body, Quickstrike was put in charge of the golem that controlled it.
Concerned with [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron's]] constant futzing with the timestream, the Vok extracted the Sparks of the inert, captive Maximals [[Tigatron]] and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]]. Their bodies were merged together to form the staggeringly powerful Tigerhawk. Inhabited by two members of the Vok species, Tigerhawk travelled to Earth as a blindingly powerful energy comet.

Tigerhawk's energy-ball plunged to Earth, impacting and utterly destroying the [[Darksyde]]. Declaring himself the emmissary of the Vok, he charged Megatron with "the willful disruption of time and space", and demanded Megatron's immediate surrender. Megatron was not so keen on this idea, and ordered a Predacon attack instead. Tigerhawk engaged and defeated the entire [[Predacon]] force, then shot down Megatron. [[Optimus Primal]] arrived at that point, concerned that if Megatron was killed, the Spark of the original Megatron would also be destroyed, thus worsening the damage to the time stream. Tigerhawk dismissed Primal's concerns as intolerable interference, and buried him in the ground with a wave of his hand. Tigerhawk was seconds away from executing the unconscious Predacon leader when Tarantulas disabled him with specialized versions of his arachnoid helper-drones.

[[Image:OtherVictories_clash.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Flying Tiger, Hidden Dragon]]

Tigerhawk awoke to find himself a captive in [[Tarantulas]]' lair. The spider attempted to destroy Tigerhawk's mind by forcefully removing the Vok presence inhabiting it. Due to a fluke coincidence, Tarantulas only succeeded in destroying himself, alongside the Vok who had controlled Tigerhawk. The Sparks of Airazor and Tigatron, which followed Tigerhawk to Earth, merged to become one and entered Tigerhawk's body.{{storylink|Other Victories}}
Megatron, not long afterwards, discovered the Decepticon warship ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', and attempted to use it to destroy the ''[[Ark]]'' itself. Tigerhawk attempted to single-handedly stop the ''Nemesis'', and despite holding his own for quite some time against the legendary warship as well as simultaneously draining the ship of it's power just by holding it off, he was killed by the ship's main cannon.{{storylink|Nemesis, Part 2}}
At one point, [[Airazor (BW)|Transmetal Airazor's]] [[spark]] became separated from her body, and her body was then possessed by a malevolent force. Airazor's body did battle with [[Tigatron]], though Tigatron could not bring himself to hurt Airazor due to his affection for her. Desiring death over harming her, Tigatron gave her one of his katana and knelt down.
As evil Airazor struck his neck with the blade, the real Airazor's spark traveled through the katana and into Tigatron's body.
: Tigerhawk transforms into half-robotic, half-technorganic, flying robot tiger-thing. Yes. In beast mode, he is armed with "feather" missiles very similar to the Fuzor [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt's]], with spring-loaded switches to flip the wings forward, and flip-out missile launchers which activate when a lever on Tigerhawk's back is pulled (which also moves the wings). Under his beast head is a small cockpit with a pilot's chair (see Trivia below).

: Like ''Transmetal 2'' Megatron, Tigerhawk features a somewhat aborted "third mode", which is just a minor rearrangement of his beast mode parts with his vacuum-metalized helmet covering his beast tiger head.

: In robot mode, Tigerhawk has a decent level of articulation, though his elbow joints are designed in such a way as to be not particularly useful. Due to his heels being vacuum-metalized, they are especially susceptible to scratching, as owners are likely to reposition them frequently to cope better with the heavy wings and gimmicks on his back.

:This mold was later used to make ''[[Universe]]'' [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Razorclaw]].
==Trivia==
[[Image:BWRConcept25.jpg|200px|thumb|One Winged Angel]]

*The extremely short duration of Tigerhawk's appearance on the show was the result of a strange confluence of factors. At the time, it was not at all certain that the ''Beast Wars'' franchise would be ending. However, at one point, after Tigerhawk had already been written into the show at Hasbro's explicit request, the company considered not releasing his toy at all. Thus he was ordered killed off immediately, and was. Hasbro eventually decided to release the toy regardless. Tigerhawk's toy did not appear on shelves until well after his death on the show.

*In the ''Beast Wars Metals'' manga, Tigatron was interpreted as a samurai; the katana being their weapon of choice. Hence the whole samurai motif for Tigerhawk.

*Originally, Tigerhawk, along with [[Optimal Optimus]] and Transmetal 2 Megatron were to have small driver-like figures sitting on control chairs located in cockpits on their bodies. These drivers were meant to represent their sparks. But [[Hasbro]] then later realized that kids might confuse these spark representations as drivers controlling the robots, so they were abandoned, but the cockpits remain. The spark pilot was eventually used in the Japanese release of [[Cryotek]].

*Even before they were combined into Tigerhawk, Airazor and Tigatron had a gender-ambiguous history. Tigatron was a male robot with a beast mode that seemed to be scanned from a female tiger, while Airazor was a female character in the English version of the show and male in the Japanese version.

*Although often thought of as a [[Fuzor]] because of his two-combined-animals beast mode, Tigerhawk was never officially designated as such.
According to myth, it was responsible for shooting down the Ark. It was revealed that [[Tarantulas]] had discovered the wreckage of the ''Nemesis'' deep under water, and had been refurbishing it for unknown purposes. Following Tarantulas' death, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] discovered the rebuilt ship and commandeered it as a last ditch attempt to rewrite history and destroy the Ark. {{storylink|Nemesis, Part 1}}
Even for the flagship of the Decepticon space fleet, one might have considered the armament on the ''Nemesis'' to be overkill. In addition to the standard energy weapons used by the Decepticons, the vessel carried a massive amount of [[missile]]s, which could be fired slowly in a swarm of rocket propelled death. A [[tractor beam]] could pull anything beneath it up to be sliced and grounded up by rotating blades and drills. The blades were incredibly sharp, being able to slice through solid rock.
[[Image:Nemesis fusion cannon.JPG|thumb|right|125px|"A second fusion cannon is unworkable, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]." "Silence, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]!"]]
Given that Megatron himself would have be the ship's normal commander, it shoould not be surprising that the primary weapon on the ''Nemesis'' was a [[fusion cannon]]. The fusion cannon was powered by its own reactor, apparently separate from the main [[Energon]] supply. The reactor needed to be at one hundred percent capacity to fire a blast, and would require a powerup time between blasts.
It is unknown if the warship had previously been used for this purpose by the Decepticons or if Starscream rediscovered it after returning to Earth.

The ''Nemesis'' was the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]], and the most powerful warship ever built.

According to myth, it was responsible for shooting down the Ark. It was revealed that [[Tarantulas]] had discovered the wreckage of the ''Nemesis'' deep under water, and had been refurbishing it for unknown purposes. Following Tarantulas' death, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] discovered the rebuilt ship and commandeered it as a last ditch attempt to rewrite history and destroy the Ark. {{storylink|Nemesis, Part 1}}

Using the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s awesome power, Megatron managed to kill [[Tigerhawk (BW)|Tigerhawk]] as well as [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] by accident. In the final battle, the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s controls were severely damaged by [[Rhinox]] and [[Optimus Primal]]. Out of control, the ship crashed a second time at an unseen location far over the horizon line.{{storylink|Nemesis, Part 2}}
After returning to Earth following Shockwave's defeat on Cybertron, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] used the ''Nemesis'' as his base of operations. It is unknown if the warship had previously been used for this purpose by the Decepticons or if Starscream rediscovered it after returning to Earth.

The technical specifications for the ''Nemesis'' were:
*Estimated length: 2.5 miles
*Wingspan: 1.75 miles
*Height: 1.25 miles
'''''The War Within''''' is a six-part miniseries published by [[Dreamwave Productions]] in 2002, set in the main G1 [[Dreamwave continuity]]. It depicts the early days of the [[Autobot]]/[[Decepticon]] war and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s rise to prominence. The series was successful enough to lead to two sequel series.
==Overview==
Eons ago on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], the Autobot-Decepticon war is in its early stages, with the vicious [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] cutting a swath through the ranks of the Autobots. When the previous Prime is killed, the High Council chooses a common data entry bot to step up and become the new leader: Optimus Prime. But not everyone is happy with the new choice, as his initial command decision is to surrender Cybertron to the Decepticons. Meanwhile, Megatron works to activate planetary scale engines which could remake the face of Cybertron. He needs one thing to power them... and Optimus Prime has it.

''The War Within'' was the first of any series to seriously re-imagine G1 characters as they might have appeared on Cybertron; before, pre-Earth Transformers were often just simplified versions of their Earthen selves, if they were redesigned at all.

==Creative team==
The series was written by long-time Transformers scribe [[Simon Furman]], marking his return to mainstream Transformers comics. Pencils were by [[Don Figueroa]], who also did the redesigns of dozens of [[Generation 1]] characters for the series.

==Items of note==
* Though the individual comics from Dreamwave were titled ''Transformers: The War Within,'' the collected volume from [[IDW Publishing]] is titled ''Transformers: War Within,'' possibly for trademark reasons.
* Several of Figueroa's designs were later made into toys for the [[Titanium Series]] toy lines, including [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], [[Thundercracker (G1)|Thundercracker]] (recolored into [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] and [[Sunstorm]]), and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. Starscream's design was also adapted for [[Unicron Trilogy]] [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]]'s ''[[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' form. Planned Titanium line toys for [[Grimlock]] and [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] reached the prototype stage but the line was canceled before their release. Also seen as an unpainted prototype was ''War Within'' [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] with an alternate head for [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]].

==Errors==
* On the back cover of the trade paperback collection, "Transformers", in one place, is spelled "Transfrormers".
