Summary
With Ravage and his Transwarp Cruiser backing them up, the Predacons unleash a full assault on the Maximal base. It doesn't take long for Ravage and Rampage to bring down the base's shield. Ravage has Tarantulas transfer all the cruiser's power into one enormous missile. Before it can fire, Rattrap bursts into the ship's weapons hold and tosses a pair of magnetic bombs that adhere to Tarantulas's hands. The bombs obliterate Tarantulas, the ship's interior, and Ravage -- who faces the onrushing fireball with a stoic cry of "Decepticons forever!!" The cruiser falls out of the sky, coming to rest mere feet from Rampage -- who is then blasted by the still-armed missile.

With the cruiser destroyed and his minions out of commission, Megatron flees. Optimus notes that he's not headed back to base, realizes where he's probably going, and orders the Maximals to pursue.

Meanwhile, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt make their way into the caves of the volcano, uncovering the object of Blackarachnia's quest&mdash;the Ark. Blackarachnia explains to Silverbolt that the ship contains the Autobots' "finest heroes", who will awaken in the distant future to re-start the Great War. Blackarachnia is concerned only with the power it possesses -- but Megatron arrives just then, blasting Silverbolt offline and sealing the entrance to the caves behind him.

The Maximals arrive hot on his heels, find the sealed entrance, and start digging their way in. Inside, Megatron threatens to vaporize Silverbolt, convincing Blackarachnia to use the access codes to gain access to the Ark (though she vehemently maintains it's only so they'll have some cover in the face of the imminent Maximal attack.) The Maximals burst through in time to see the two Predacons sealing the Ark behind them.

Blackarachnia activates the ship's defenses to hold off the Maximals, while Megatron goes to "effect a more permanent solution." Entering the main bridge of the ship, he hovers among the fallen Autobots and Decepticons, eulogizing the Decepticons and cursing the Autobots, until he comes face to face with his intended target&mdash;Optimus Prime, the original leader of the Autobots, who kept the Decepticons from victory (and therefore left their Predacon decendants in a subservient position to the dominant Maximals.) Megatron charges his main weapon and prepares to fire.

In the caves, the Maximals are pelted by fire from the ship's cannon, till Rattrap manages to force a backblast that deactivates the cannon and shields. Rhinox struggles to open the mighty doors of the Ark. But the Maximals are too late -- Megatron unleashes a full-power blast at Optimus Prime's head, destroying it.

A time storm immediately wells up, spreading outward from the Ark and into space. The Maximals find themselves phasing in and out of past bodies -- as well as out of existance -- as Megatron emerges from the Ark, triumphant.

Quotes
*Silverbolt: You see that star? Actually, it's a planet. It's Venus. It remind me of you.<br>Blackarachnia: You mean hot, posionous, and deadly? Aww, you're sweet.<br>Silverbolt:...That's not what I meant.

*Rattrap: Aw, man! That ship wasn't built. It was poured!<br>Optimus Primal: Die-cast construction.[He looks at the audience.] It's a lost art.

*[Rattrap is working on the Arks locking mechanism]<br>Optimus Primal: We have to get inside!<br>Rattrap: Aw, it's jammed. Oh, the power surge must have&mdash;<br>[Rhinox growls angrilly, Rattrap jumps to the ground, then Rhinox shoots the mechanism with the Chainguns of Doom]
Notes
Technical/Animation glitches
*Glitch

Continuity errors
*This episode called into sudden question the location of the Maximal and Predacon bases. While the events of "Code of Hero" seem to firmly place the series somewhere in Africa (where early humanity evolved), the Ark is traditionally seen to have crashed in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. If this is the case, the Maximals pursued Megatron across the Atlantic Ocean and over an entire continent!<br>Beast Wars, however, does not use a strict interpretation of any G1 storyline; it could be that in this version of the G1 history, the Ark also landed somewhere in Africa. The question is never directly addressed in the show.

* Either way, it seems that the Maximals might have been better off shooting down Megatron while he was still on the run, rather than waiting till he reached his destination.

Transformers references
*In reference to the strength of the Ark, Rattrap claims, "That ship wasn't built, it was poured!". Primal replies "Die-cast construction. It's a lost art." This is a reference to the original Transformer toys, which featured some die-cast parts.

*The final act features a bonanza of cameo appearances by the original G1 Transformers, including Prowl, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ironhide, Soundwave, and Starscream.

Summary
With Megatron a prisoner and the Predacons scattered, the Maximals prepare to wrap things up. Optimus Primal summons Silverbolt to his office, and comes down on him about Blackarachnia. Silverbolt points out that she was originally a Maximal protoform, and that Silverbolt was a Predacon once, but Primal counters that Blackarchnia is evil to the core, and Silverbolt didn't know any better. He confines Silverbolt to quarters and dispatches Cheetor to deal with Blackarchnia, despite Silverbolt's request to be sent, if only to protect Cheetor.

In his cell, Megatron berates Ravage for siding with the Maximals, and points out that his ship is depleted of Energon. He offers a stash of cubes for his freedom, but Ravage reveals he already knows the location, as Tarantulas is a Lieutenant in the Predacon Secret Police. Cheetor prepares to go out for Blackarachnia, but first apologizes to Silverbolt, who also apologizes&mdash;for the punch he gives him. Escapaing, Silverbolt locates Blackarachnia, following Waspinator to a mountain. Silverbolt begs her to come in, but Blackarachnia claims to have no feelings for him at all. To prove her point, she shoots him. But as Silverbolt points out, it was non-fatal, saying she does care for him, and wont simply kill him. Distracted, the hoverpod they're in rams into Waspinator, but Silverbolt saves Blackarachnia (Waspinator is out of luck, as usual).

Heading for the Energon cubes, Optimus and Cheetor discover that they are actually unstable crystals, and part of a trap by Megatron. Inferno attacks, but soon suffers from Energon buildup. Inferno ignites the crystals in an attempt to destroy them all, but Primal and Cheetor escape. At his ship, Ravage confronts Megatron over his treachery. Megatron points out that Ravage intends to kill them all, Maximal and Predacon, which Ravage admits to, and arms the vessels internal autoguns. Desparate, Megatron reveals he had ulterior motives for stealing the Golden Disk, something which could affect the Great War. Ravage doubts him, pointing out the Disk's destruction, but allows Megatron to convince him. Released from the power bonds, the Predacon commander reveals that he still has a fragment of the Disk, and it holds proof that Ravage will believe&mdash;a message from Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons. Noting his potential defeat, Megatron left instructions for the descendants of the Decepticons to use transwarp technology to travel back in time to Ancient Earth. Although the message cuts out, the Predacon's gambit succeeded: Ravage, moved by the sight of his former leader, releases Megatron.

At the mountain, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt discover that Megatron was already here, having dug a tunnel and then sealed it. Blackarachnia attempts to make Silverbolt leave, but finally accepts his help. As Optimus and Cheetor return to the Axalon, Rattrap radios Optimus, telling him they no longer need to depend on Ravage&mdash;he switched sides! As Ravage transforms to interface with his ship, the Predacons launch an attack.
*Originally, when Ravage transformed and inserted his cassette mode into the control console, the G1 cartoon theme song was going to play during his first cry of "Decepticons Forever!" and subsequent attack on the Axalon. However, due to copyright constraints, this plan was dropped, and a more generic song was put in its place.

Summary
Optimus Primal is dead, blown into pieces by Megatron's most twisted scheme yet. However, the explosion of the Planet Buster caused a quantum surge, transforming certain Transformers into shinier robots with new vehicle modes - Transmetals.

Megs is never above kicking somebody while they're down, so he brings a full Predacon assault (in the form of Waspinator) to join the Tarantulas-possessed Blackarachnia in an assault on the Axalon. Finally, Megatron realizes with only a broken Inferno in his army, he's no match for Rhinox and the new Transmetals, Cheetor and Rattrap, so he calls a retreat.

At the end of the episode, two stasis pods are shown lying in a barren area, with broken scanners.

Notes
Trivia
*There were methods to the madness that is transmetalization. All of the original ten Transformers would be made into transmetals. (This excludes Airazor, Blackarachnia, Tigatron, and Inferno.) However, Waspinator was knocked into that healing stuff, Terrorsaur and Scorponok were killed, and Dinobot and Rhinox were in the CR chamber. Thus, only five of the original Transformers (if you include Optimus) were transmetalized.
*Terrorsaur and Scorponok were going through transmetalization at the time of death. This was included if the writers ever were to bring them back.
*Waspinator was originally intended to die in this episode, but due to fan popularity, and the fact the writers needed a character for comic relief, he was granted amnesty.
*The bit with Cheetor and Rattrap trying out their Vehicle modes was probably intended to give kids something to cheer them up after the death of Optimus.
*Rattrap refers to his newer wheeled form not as "beast mode", but as "Knievel mode". This is a reference to the stuntman Evel Knievel.

Quotes
*
**Megatron: Yes, I am good, aren't I? [smacks Waspinator] But we can discuss my brilliance later. Now, there is work to be done.
**Terrorsaur: What kind of work?
**Megatron: The Predacon kind. We must defeat the remaining Maximals while they mourn their dear, departed leader. This will be the final battle!
*Tarantulas: I'm here, inside your pretty little head, controlling your pretty little thoughts.
*Rattrap: What's with you two? [gestures toward pants area] Is my gear box hangin' out or somethin'?
*Rattrap: [looking in reflective surface] Hey! I'm, uh...gorgeous!
*Rattrap: And then we woke up, Cheetor and I were these...trans...metals.
*Waspinator: Huh? Cat-bot cannot fly... [is smacked into by a Cheetor missle]
*Megatron: New packaging. Same product. Losers.
*Rattrap: [to Cheetor] You know, a few flying lessons wouldn't hurt.

Generation 1 is the original Transformers franchise which took the United States by storm in 1984. It is what most people older than 17 or so think of when they hear "Transformers".

The term "Generation 1" (G1) was originally a fan-coined back-formulation of Generation 2. Until the Transformers:Generation 2 line was released, Generation 1 was simply called Transformers. Over the years, the use of the term G1 has become fairly universal and has frequently been used in official materials. It has even appeared on Takara toy packaging and on Hasbro's official Transformers website and reissue toy packaging.

The Generation 1 franchise as it ran in the 1980s/90s featured the following primary components:
*A toyline
*A cartoon series
*A comic book series

Generation 1 also included an avalanche of ancillary licensed merchandise, moreso than any other Transformers franchise outside of Japan. This has resulted in a higher number of Micro-Continuities in G1 than in any other Transformers franchise.

This licensing was revived in the early 2000s due to retro-appeal at retailers like Hot Topic. It has continued at varying levels of intensity since.

Continuations and addenda
It should be noted that the first two revivals/reinventions of the Transformers line following the end of the original line (Generation 2 and Beast Wars/Beast Machines) remained, as far as their fiction was concerned, as part of the same overall storyline/history framework. Thus a character like Optimus Primal is listed as being "a character from the Beast Era portion of the Generation 1 continuity family." Despite hailing from a later post-Generation 1 franchise, he is a part of the same Generation 1 continuity family.

Also of note, the lasting popularity of the original Generation 1 franchise, its characters, and stories have led Hasbro and Takara to produce a long stream of modern revisitations of it. This new Generation 1 material is sometimes referred to by fans as "Neo G1".

Among these are:

* New Generation 1 characters (generally redecos of existing G1 toys) retroactively introduced into the franchise by the Japanese reissues toy line.

* Whole new toy lines with ancilliary fiction set in a Generation 1 contunity: these include Binaltech, Universe, Robot Masters, Micromaster Collection, Kiss Play, and Classics (2006).

* Many new Generation 1 comic book series, first from Dreamwave and then from Devil's Due and IDW.
