Initial ideas for IDW's Transformer line included a ''Crisis on Infinite Earths''-style story crossing over with the new [[Transformers: Cybertron (toyline)|''Cybertron'' toyline]], starting ongoings in both G1 and ''Cybertron'' continuity. The G1 cast would suffer Cybertron's destruction and learn [[Unicron]]'s death had destabilized the entire [[omniverse]], forcing them to try and assemble an artifact called the "Decepticon Matrix" in order to ''resurrect'' Unicron. This would parallel with the ''Cybertron'' plot, in which the Autobots seek out the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s to revive [[Primus]], and [[Vector Prime]] would have appeared as a guide in both series. This was considered too confusing for new readers, however, and dropped for a [[IDW Generation 1 continuity|continuity reboot of ''Generation 1'']]. Instead of an ongoing civil war on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] which spills over to [[Earth]] by accident, Furman presented us with an interstellar war between the [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s, a war of [[Code of Interplanetary Conflict]] and alt-form-and-dagger covert operations, with [[energon]] the prize and whole planets at stake. A surprising development on Earth heats up the war and turns our planet from just another proxy battleground into the ultimate prize.

This slow, measured storyline was eventually abandoned in an attempt to bring in more casual fans with a more G1 Cartoon-inspired revamp in ''All Hail Megatron''. This failed to have the desired effect both in terms of sales and fan-response, so ''another'' revamp was attempted with the start of ''The Transformers'' ongoing series. It has met with sharp fan criticism as well. ''(sigh)''

IDW has a somewhat unconventional editorial policy, at least as far as their ''Transformers'' titles are concerned: Whereas other companies such as [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]] or DC often tend to dictate writers their stories, IDW takes the opposite approach and gives its writers pretty much free rein, regardless of whether it contradicts previous stories or even makes little sense by itself. What's worse, whereas [[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave]] had enforced a rigid "house style", IDW actively encourages artists to use their own style... which appears to extend to Transformers characters' ''designs'' and even ''[[alternate mode]]s''.
*Regarding ''[[The Transformers: All Hail Megatron|All Hail Megatron]]'', [[Simon Furman]], who had been the head writer of the [[IDW Generation 1 continuity]] up to that point, confirmed that that there had been no collaboration or communication between himself and ''All Hail Megatron'' writer [[Shane McCarthy]], and it was up to then IDW editor [[Denton J. I just want to point out that there are clearly shown 5 constucticons on the ship's deck but only 4 at any given time. The frontend loader(scrapper) and the excavator(scrap metal) seem to trade spots at times and it is the (Scrapper bot that is shown to jump into the water. The Insecticon clones, as far as I understand, where "perfect" clones - same design, same personality, and more an ability then actual characters. The Starscream clones have different designs and personalities, and seem to be getting different toys. They have a named faction which plays as an important "third party" in the series, and may not all have the same voice actor. I get that, by the nature of their appearance they "probably" won't come back in the same capacity, but I still feel that they play a big enough role in that episode to be considered full characters, and that they are unique enough to not just be labeled "generic". However, if it will work as a compromise, could we at least list [[Starscream clone (Animated)|Starscream clones]] as a cast "member"?

The Autobots were, at first, hampered by their promise to Doctor Fujiyama not to damage or destroy the ninja robot, and found themselves flustered in botched attempts to capture her. Eventually, however, they used an [[energy net]] which drained Nightbird's power reserves and allowed the Autobots to capture her without serious damage.

Doctor Fujiyama placed Nightbird into cold storage, but apparently didn't see fit to fully deactivate her, as she seems aware of her plight and gives an angry glare as she's stored away. Not that we've ever seen her again. {{storylink|Enter the Nightbird}}

Though they were rather outnumbered, the group could hold off the drones long enough for [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]] to arrive with help and an evacuation shuttle. This was only just too late for Wheelie, who found his back slashed open by a Nightbird drone, disabling him from getting to the shuttle. Loyal to his friend, Daniel stayed with him as the others fled. When he could no longer fight off the drones, he detonated an explosive to destroy them, killing himself and Wheelie in the process.
