:Since Moon hails from Gaia's past and Gaia is a future version of Earth it seems likely that he was of human construction.
I don't see anything wrong with this statement. It's a logical, important inferrence based on the evidence presented. What is untrue about this statement? It says he is likely of human construction, because it is. I mean, who else from future Earth will build him? Sentient cockroaches which took over after we all died? That's an even bigger assumption than the human angle. That it's probable, given the evidence presented, that he was built by humans is an important thing to say. --ItsWalky 07:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
:The fact that it's a "possibility" leaves a bad taste in my mouth; I'm of the opinion that we should be sticking to what the fiction says and nothing more. Putting up possibilities implies that they have some sort of credence beyond fan assumption, and there's no clear line as to what possibilities are acceptable and what aren't. In this case, one could also claim the possibility of Moon being built by Artemis, and thus would have to put this possibility in the article, too. I'd prefer to just avoid that altogether. Interrobang 09:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

::: Well the article begins with "Moon is a relic from the past of the planet Gaia." So he's a robot from Earth who's not of Cybertronian origin (also in there). *Very* likely built by humans then. I think the line (and others like it) is fine as long as it mentions that it's "likely" not definate.

As for how the line is drawn between "likely" and too-out-there speculation? How about with common sense. I hate it when institutions make things doubly difficult and convoluted by catering to the lowest common denominator. Most of use here are smart people, if something is TOO speculative we'll feel it and take it out. If it's boarderline we'll debate it and come to a concensus. No need to get draconian about any little helpful inference in the fear that it'll lead to fannon leaking in. We've got a better handle on things than that I think. -ZacWilliam (who keeps forgetting to log in). :)<div id="wikia-credits"><br /><br /><small>From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki, a Wikia wiki.</small></div>

"Grimlock hate Optimus Prime. Grimlock believe leader should show strength by attacking quickly and mercilessly! Prime often reconsider or hesitate, in fear of possible casualties, both Transformer and squishy -- Grimlock say that cowardice! If Grimlock were in charge, war would have been over long ago."

Some Autobots wonder why Grimlock is even on their side. His disposition is much more suited towards the Decepticons. After all, he values power and strength over wisdom and compassion, and furthermore, he doesn't get along with any of the Autobots. It's been hypothesized that Grimlock just hates Megatron more than he hates Optimus. (Which means he must hate him A LOT.)

Grimlock is the leader of the Dinobots, a small but very close team of misfits. It's been said that anyone who enters a battle with the Dinobots usually leaves it feet-first.

(Grimlock's intelligence-level differed greatly between the comic and cartoon, leading to vastly different portrayals. See the entries below for details.)
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Comic Grimlock (and the other Dinobots as well) were much more intelligent than their Cartoon counterparts. They weren't Perceptor mind you, but they had average, functional intellects. When he first appeared in the comic Grimlock spoke normally, but later the Comic adopted the caveman-esque speach of the cartoon (though only for Grimlock himself, the other Dinobots continued to speak normally.) This vocal tic was alternately portrayed as a malfunction or an intentional choice by Grimlock, but in either case, he retained his full intelligence. Grimlock was a powerful and arrogant warrior who believed he knew best. He ascended to the post of overall Autobot leader on several occasions, growing in the process and eventually, despite their original conflict, becoming Optimus's hand-picked leutenant and likely successor. Early on, Blaster was a major thorn in his side, deserting his command. Later, he tended to fight with the straight-laced, logical Prowl.

Animated continuity
:Voice Actor: Greg Berger (US), Takurō Kitagawa (Japan)

(Note: In the animated series, Grimlock was more dimwitted than in most other continuities. As the series progressed, he was portrayed increasingly as a comic relief character.)

Cartoon Grimlock, like all the cartoon Dinobots, has a stereotypical "caveman" type personality and intellect level. They originally decide to help the Autobots, for instance, because "them have face like this on chest..." Pre-movie this lack of intelligence is usually coupled together with their great power to make them dangerous wild cards; Post-movie, however, Grimlock and the Dinobots are generally played as just plain dumb for comic relief.

When mysterious tremors shook the Autobot base, Wheeljack's investigation revealed strange objects behind a rock wall. After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and Ratchet asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted Teletraan I with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots must be destroyed. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured. Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee, left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient. After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends. Grimlock says he will obey... this time. They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots. Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots.

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent Soundwave to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him. Instead of destroying him completely, however, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle. Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate. This enraged Grimlock. They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, Snarl and Swoop, whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack. At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him. Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat. Grimlock apologized for his jealousy.

The Decepticons joined forces with Sub-Atlantica and staged a full-scale attack on Washington, D.C.. The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance. Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads. With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence TORQ III turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by Shockwave and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it.

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughtout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of Chaar, Goo, Dredd and Eurythma. He and Daniel Witwicky were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical Quintesson, the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated Trypticon in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader Galvatron had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to Unicron's disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon Terrorcons, Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the Technobots to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory.

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, Primacron, creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "Primitive" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, Tornedron, but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under Trypticon. Grimlock survived, however, and followed Tornedron back to Primacron's lab. When Tornedron turned on his master, like his predecessor, Primacron's complicated plans and equations could not find a way to stop him; Grimlock, on the other hand, randomly flicked a switch which reversed Tornedron's energy polarity, undoing the damage he and done and dissipating. Dancing around over his successful saving of the universe, Grimlock decimated Primacron's lab, dubbing it the smartest thing he'd ever done

Binaltech
After the Dinobots were defeated and deactivated on Earth, Grimlock was rebuilt using Binaltech technology to save his life. He hates his new Ford Mustang form.

Dreamwave comics continuity
In the Dreamwave comics continuity Grimlock displays Patton like leadership rivaling Optimus Prime. He also was a traitor, and the "rebel" of the autobots. Consistency wasn't Dreamwave's strong suit.

Beast Wars
* IDW's The Gathering
: When Razorbeast and Optimus Minor where attempting to "rescue" Megatron from Magmatron, Grimlock showed up and acted as the perfect distraction (though it is never shown whether he was in a stasis pod aboard the Axalon or if he had found his way to Earth via other means). Grimlock and Magmatron battled, with Magmatron arising as the victor -- they fought in their beast mode, so Magamtron had him out numbered three to one. Grimlock was knocked out, but can later be seen in the background of a panel of the final page, helping to construct a fence. It is assumed he will have a greater role in future Beast Wars comics, provided IDW obliges.

IDW comics continuity
Grimlock, and the rest of the Dynobots were a close-knit group of hunters, suffering from neither low intelligence nor Grimlock's traditional speech impairment.

After Shockwave destroyed a caché of Energon the Dynobots had been hoarding, causing them severe Energon burns and causing them to feel humiliated, they swore revenge. And so, against orders from Optimus Prime, they followed Shockwave when he left Cybertron to stablise "Ultra-Energon" deposits he had sent to other worlds as a precaution against the depletion of Cybertron's own Energon reserves.

When Shockwave reached his first destination - Earth, at the end of the last Ice Age - the Dynobots destroyed his ship and, reluctantly in Grimlock's case, took on dinosaur alternate modes with synthetic flesh coatings to protect against the high levels of Energon radiation (see also Beast Wars), Grimlock having rejected the suggestion of a mammoth alternate mode as even less palatable.

On transporting down to the planet's surface to confront Shockwave, they gained an initial advantage, as Shockwave's logic was unable to comprehend the effort and risks they had taken for their revenge. However, when Shockwave recognised this weakness shut down his logic processors and operated a "rage" program to enable him to operate on pure instinct, he shrugged off their attacks and beat them severely, ending by burning off their organic coatings. Unable to accept another defeat, Grimlock transformed to robot mode and fought against his immenent stasis lock to no avail.

However, before leaving the Dynobots' ship, he had enabled a "dead man's switch", designed to take Shockwave with them if they were defeated. On entering stasis lock, this failsafe activated, firing on a nearby dormant volcano, causing an eruption which buried Shockwave and the Dynobots under ash and lava.

However, in 2006, Shockwave was discovered by a team of human archelogists. Whether he, Grimlock or the rest of the Dynobots can/will be reactivated remains to be seen.
: Grimlock's toy was originally part of Takara's Diaclone Dinosaur Robo series. When Hasbro imported the toy in 1985 for the Transformers line, the blue crotch was changed to red and the Diaclone driver mini-figure was dropped.
:The original Grimlock changes from a robot into a robotic T-Rex and comes with a sword, a gun, and a rocket launcher with three rockets.

* Grimlock (Classic Pretender)
: Released in 1989, this simplified and slightly-modified version of Grimlock transforms into a robotic T-Rex whose tail becomes a hangun. He came with a large human Pretender shell with a rather knight-like armor theme, with a helmet and large cannon.

: His human shell looks a lot like Ed Asner. (Actually it also rather strongly resembles his voice actor from the cartoon Greg Berger.)

* Grimlock (Legends)
: A K-Mart exclusive in its Hasbro release, this version of Grimlock is simply the inner robot of his Classic Pretender form without the shell or its accessories, leaving him only his tail/gun. In Japan, he was only available in a boxed "Hero Set" with the other three Legends toys, but with a silver face rather than the Hasbro version's orange.

* Grimlock (Action Master)
: Part of the initial assortment of non-transforming Action Master figures, Grimlock's design combines his cartoon model with extra toy-based detaling. He came with the Anti-Tank Cannon "partner" machine which Grimlock could ride, or be unfolded to form a really big "long range mortar launcher."
He was available in three different colors; the first --and rarest-- in his original silver (the easiest way to spot if this is a G2 or original is by the "Autobot" tampograph on his leg), then in a medium truqoise-blue, and finally (and most commonly) in a dark blue.
His tail becomes a sword and a rotate-blade. He was slightly retooled to have space for an "energon chip" rubsign.
:Sideswipe is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Sideswipe is not nearly as sociopathic as his brother Sunstreaker, but he is every bit as skillful. He's more into battle for the sport of it. A bit of a jock, Sideswipe craves most a glorious fight to the finish, a test of his mettle.

There is a reckless edge to Sideswipe's tactics. He makes rash decisions that may endanger him, all in the name of possible victory. Cheating is also not out of the question. When everything is on the line, for Sideswipe, nothing is out of the question.

When investigating tremors that were shaking the Autobot base, Wheeljack's scanner found some interesting objects inside a rock wall. Sideswipe and Brawn removed the rock wall and found a cave full of dinosaur bones.

Marvel Comics continuity
Generation 1
Sideswipe along with his brother Sunstreaker was part of the original crew of Optimus Prime Ark. When the Decepticons attacked the ship it crashed in Earth and Sideswipe along the rest lay dormant for 4 million years. When the volcano that housed the Ark erupted, The Ark internal mechanisms revived all Transformers, making no distinction between Autobot and Decepticon (the ship`s memory banks forgot about the great war). Sideswipe was alive again.

(Note:Sideswipe appeared several times up until issue 50 when the Underbase-powered Starscream decimated Autobot and Decepticon armies. Sideswipe was not seen deactivated in the saga but he did not appear again until G2.)

Generation 2
Sideswipe was part of Grimlock's Commando Unit. That unit formed a raiding party facing the Cybertronians. He had a more prominent role in subsequent events then he has had in the past. Sideswipe is in the last battle against the swarm, and his fate is uncertain.

Generation Two Comics (UK)
Sideswipe was part of Jazz's Special Commando Unit.

3H Universe comics
Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Roulette and Shadow Striker returned to the technorganic Cybertron and were welcomed by the Maximals. Unicron abducted these newly-returned Transformers, in addition to many others from different times and universes, to start a final confrontation against Primus.

Dreamwave Generation 1 Comics
Sideswipe was part of Operation Liberation in 1998, a joint human-Autobot effort to defeat the Earth bounded Decepticons. At the end it was a success, and the captured Decepticons alomg with the Autobots and a human crew departed Earth en route to Cybertron in the Ark II. The ship, however, was sabotaged and crashed into Earth.

A few years later Megatron and other Transformers (including Autobots) were seen causing havoc. It was discovered that Lazarus (a scientist who participated in the Ark II project) was responsible for the sabotage of the Ark II and the resurrection of several Transformers (who were under his control by technological tampering).

The army contacted Spike Witwicky to ask him if he could do something to help them reactivate Optimus Prime, whom they had in stasis. Spike managed to reactivate Optimus with a portion of the Matrix that Optimus had given him prior the ill-fated journey of the Ark II. Optimus subsequently went to the Artic and used the Matrix to reactivate several Transformers, including Sideswipe.

Sideswipe accepted the new task at hand and fought up until the last battle against Megatron and his decepticons in San Francisco.

Sideswipe remained on Earth as part of Jazz's unit, while Optimus Prime returned to Shockwave's united Cybertron.

: In 2001, Sideswipe was re-released as a show-exclusive item, but his license plate decal was changed from the infringing "COUNTACH" to "CAR MACHINE". Sideswipe and Red Alert were re-re-released together in 2002 as an e-hobby set, with several factory-applied decals replaced with paint applications, the "CAR MACHINE" plate-decal now blank, plus an additional recolored alternate sticker sheet for each one. This version, minus the extra decal sheet, was re-re-re-released as part of the Transformers Collection "book-box series". Finally, this version (with its spring-loaded launcher de-sprung for US safety reasons) was released in the US as part of the Comemmorative Series line, one of the last pieces. (In fact, Sideswipe ended up at Kay-Bee stores at heavy discount, rather than Toys "R" Us like almost all the others).

: Part of the first assortment of Autobot cars, Sideswipe's original toy had his colors re-arranged to a black car mode with red and white robot parts. His original rocket launcher was removed, and replaced with a large spring-loaded launcher that could be hand-held or mounted on his retooled car-mode roof.
A pair of add-on thrusters become arm-mounted launchers for robot mode; each one being a pressure-launch missile launcher.
: The second Alternators toy released, Side Swipe transforms into a licensed 1:24-scale Dodge Viper with opening doors and hood. The mold was originally designed to be a new body for Tracks after the first attempt to secure the Corvette license fell through. However, it was quickly changed to Side Swipe once the licensing with Chevy went forward.
Trivia
*Sideswipe's Japanese name, "Lambor" is derived from the name of his vehicle mode, a Lamborghini.

* Because Sideswipe's bio text describes features of Sunstreaker's toy, there is a theory that the Sunstreaker mold was planned to be released in red as Sideswipe and vice-versa. The fact that the Sunstreaker toy only had red and police versions in Diaclone supports this theory.
:Jetfire is an Autobot from the Generation 1 series. In the animated continuity he was known as Skyfire.

Jetfire is a bot of science, literally. Not only is his mind dedicated towards scientific pursuits, but his body is a testament to the technology he studies so intensely. (Some would say "religiously," but not in his presence.) Every inch of his chassis is cutting-edge and kept up-to-date. However, he does not have the trust of his teammates; it was not so long ago that he was a Decepticon. Jetfire is compassionate, so some Autobots feel that he could be soft on their enemies or, even worse, he may turn on them after realizing his "cold calculations" swing the other way.

Jetfire would find their misconceptions about science appalling. After all, is not science just the pursuit of truth? And truth, he maintains, walks hand-in-hand with liberty.

(In the Generation 1 animated series, Jetfire went by the name Skyfire. His character model was significantly altered from the toy, as was his appearance in nearly all media. See Why "Skyfire"?, below.)

Fire in the SkyMillions of years ago on Cybertron, before the war, Skyfire and Starscream were good friends and fellow scientists. On a mission of exploration to prehistoric Earth, Skyfire was lost in a storm. Starscream searched, but there was no sign of his comrade. He returned home.

Millions of years later, after the Autobots and Decepticons had crashed and awoken on Earth, the Decepticons found and revived Skyfire, encased in a block of Arctic ice. Skyfire joined them due to his past friendship with Starscream, though he expressed discomfort with their methods. When Skyfire's compassion for humans led to his disobeying orders, Starscream, who had changed much in the intervening millennia, turned on his friend. Skyfire left the Decepticons and joined the Autobots, sacrificing himself to be buried beneath the ice again to stop the Decepticons' plans. The Autobots held a memorial service in his memory at the location of his involuntary burial.

Fire on the MountainThe Autobots returned later to dig him up when they needed a ride down to South America. Megatron and his Decepticons were in Brazil seeking the Crystal of Power, which was kept in an Aztec temple. After battling the Decepticons, Skyfire arrived at the temple to find Thundercracker guarding it and the crystal inside. Thundercracker was angry at Starscream, and was willing to let Skyfire past him to destroy the crystal so long as Starscream got in trouble. Starscream overheard this and shot Skyfire in the back, knocking him out.

At one point, Optimus Prime actually pats Skyfire on his jet mode's nosecone, like a dog. Sucks to be Skyfire.

Marvel Comics continuity
Brainstorm!Early in the war on Earth, Shockwave held the head of Optimus Prime captive, hoping to use the Creation Matrix he possessed to create a new army of Decepticons. Optimus Prime had secretly passed the energies of the Matrix onto the teenaged human, Buster Witwicky, so Shockwave was stopped short of giving Jetfire's constructed body life. Shockwave soon learned of the human's involvement, so he sent Jetfire after the human anyway, though the lifeless robot could do nothing more than follow orders. When Jetfire found Buster, he was accompanied by the Autobots Bluestreak and Bumblebee for his protection, but it was Buster's Creation Matrix powers that ultimately disassembled Jetfire before their eyes. Buster reassembled Jetfire, and with Bumblebee's help, changes were made to allow Buster to directly control him.

Prime Time! However, Jetfire's programming reasserted itself, and maneuvered so wildly that Buster, riding in the cockpit, blacked out. Buster woke up inside Shockwave's base (a former Blackrock Industries plant), strapped to a machine ready to drill the Creation Matrix out of him. In the meantime, knowing that the Autobots were eavesdropping on him, Shockwave sent Jetfire to drop a fake Optimus Prime head at a disclosed location for the Autobots to find. The fake head attached itself to Optimus Prime's body and began attacking the Autobots, causing many injuries. At the last moment, Buster was able to control Jetfire once again, knocking out Shockwave, and delivering the true Optimus Prime head to the Autobots, allowing for them a costly victory.

With Optimus Prime fully restored, Jetfire was quickly given life and joined the Autobots, the Rite of the Autobrand marking him as one of their rank. When Bumblebee, depressed, had left the Autobots and gotten himself attacked by the Decepticons, Jetfire eagerly came to his rescue. Later, Jetfire helped the Autobots approach the Decepticon base to steal information that would allow them to build their own combiners. He also accompanied Donny Finkleberg to the spot where Finkleberg claimed seven Autobots had crossed over from Cybertron, though they found nothing but traces of oil.

After the death of Optimus Prime, Jetfire voted for the Dinobot Grimlock to take command. He later seemed to regret this decision, offering to help Blaster usurp him, and when the rivalry ended in a duel staged on Earth's moon, he was among the Autobots who watched. When the Autobots were ambushed by the entire Decepticon army, he was blasted out of the sky by both Vortex and Laserbeak.

Jetfire was destroyed along with the Aerialbots and countless others in New York when Starscream absorbed the power of the Underbase.

(While in the US continuity, G2 Jetfire was the same character as G1 Jetfire/Skyfire, the same would not appear to be the case in Japan. In Japan, the G1 character was called "Skyfire" in the cartoon, which was the only Japanese media he appeared in, as his toy was never released in Japan. The "Jetfire" that appears in the G2 manga probably would have originally been a different character, though Robot Masters backstory seemed to consolidate the two retroactively.)

At one point, Megatron kidnapped the Autobot Laser Rod, Electro. While Megatron attempted to persuade Electro into joining the Decepticons, Jetfire infiltrated the headquarters. Busting-in at full-force, Jetfire took the Decepticons by surprise and managed to successfully rescue his fellow Autobot.

Before the war, the scientist Jetfire and Starscream were friends. But when Starscream joined the Decepticons in their assault on outlying city-states, Jetfire was torn. If he followed his beliefs and upheld justice and life, he would end up facing his dearest friend on the battlefield. Jetfire did end up with the Autobots, but not before a barrior of distrust had been built between them due to his inaction and his past loyalties.

The War Within: The Dark AgesThese loyalties came to a head during a period when Optimus Prime and Megatron were presumed lost forever, the two factions splintered into five. Events conspired behind the scenes, building up to an unknown crescendo, and Jetfire was suspicious. Putting his already-shakey trustworthiness on the line, he met up with Shockwave in secret to discuss the looming front of darkness. However, the source of these machinations, the Fallen, had leaked their correspondence to Grimlock, who held a grudge against the scientist.

Grimlock assaulted Jetfire at his intended meeting place, but both were overwhelmed by the Fallen and dragged far inside Cybertron and strapped to a four-paneled contraption in the Well of All Sparks. Jetfire, Grimlock, Hot Spot, and Blitzwing were the "Angles of Dissolution," four "unique sparks" which could catalyze the breach of the Seal of Primus. Combined forces from several factions penetrated the Fallen's operation, but despite Jetfire and Grimlock's teamwork, the Fallen was destroyed only by his own scheme -- the hand of Primus reached out, awaken, from his slumber, and smote the enigmatic being to pieces. Jetfire, a skeptic towards things supernatural, began to wonder if there might be something bigger than them going on, something no one could comprehend.

Generation 1 (Dreamwave comic)Long after, Jetfire and Omega Supreme were sent out into space to search for the missing Ark. When they arrived on Earth, though, they were attacked by Scourge. Jetfire disabled him with their ship's EMP, but when he went outside to identify his assailant he was caught in an avalanche and buried in ice.

Millions of years later he was found by Starscream and stored aboard the Nemesis, still encased in a block of ice. When the zealot Sunstorm arrived on Earth, Starscream freed Jetfire from his icy prison to stop him. An uneasy alliance between Jetfire, Starscream, and Bumblebee's team of Autobots as they tried to come up with a plan to stop the unbelievably powerful Seeker, but Sunstorm was unstoppable. Jetfire started to consider that Sunstorm may be supernatural, despite his natural skepticism. During their encounter, Jetfire realized that Sunstorm's internal fusion reactor was about to go critical, and flew him up into space where he could explode without risk to the Earth. Jetfire was seemingly annihilated in the explosion. His demise caused Bumblebee to throw down his arms and quit the war.

(It was revealed long after the demise of Dreamwave that an issue was planned that involved the return of both Jetfire and the Fallen, meaning his "death" would not have been final.)
IDW comics continuity
Years of war had put the Transformers' home world of Cybertron through too much punishment, meaning a spiral into planet-wide cataclysm, a consequence the scientist Thunderwing had foreseen. Jetfire and other Transformers scientists ignored his warning, until it was too late.

Stormbringer (comics)Seven hundred years later, and against regulations, Jetfire and the Technobots travelled to the supposedly-abandoned husk of Cybertron from their science vessel, the Calabi-Yau, to investigate a strange energy reading. Upon arriving on the dead surface of the planet near Thunderhead Pass, Jetfire, Scattershot, Afterburner, and Lightspeed were ambushed by a mysterious group of robots with stealth abilies. The Technobots were badly damaged and Jetfire was captured. When he revived, he found his captors worshipping the reanimated corpse of Thunderwing.

Their leader, Bludgeon, wished to revisit the mad scientist's plot and harness the power that accelerated the planet's death in a apocalyptic torrent all those years ago. Jetfire pleaded with Bludgeon not to again unleash the powers that destroyed his planet, but he was ignored, and his attempts to escape were thwarted. Thanks to a distress signal sent by the remaining Technobots in the Calabi-Yau, Optimus Prime and the Wreckers soon arrived, released Jetfire, and defeated his captors, just before an alert system announced the arrival of Thunderwing, newly reborn...

Fortunatly Jetfire was able to figure out that the ultra energon powering thunderwing would deplete in a prolonged struggle. This allowed Optimus Prime, the wreckers, and the mayhem attack squad to stop the monstrosity without destroying cybertron.

:Jetfire features three modes - robot, jet, and an "alternate transformation" that deploys his arms and legs in jet mode. Additionally, Jetfire comes with several red pieces of armor that can snap onto his arms, legs, and back in any mode.
The more rigid plastic used on the armor pieces also means that it's not uncommon for their attachment clips to have snapped off. ==Why "Skyfire"?==

We may never be certain of the exact circumstances behind the change from Jetfire to Skyfire. There are, however, a few known factors, and a lot of theories.

* Not all of Hasbro's Transformers product originated with Takara. The Macross Super Valkyrie, the toy that would become Jetfire, came from a company called Takatoku (who were also responsible for the toys that became Roadbuster, Whirl, and the deluxe Insecticons). Why did Hasbro market non-Takara product? Bob Prupis, one of the original members of the Transformers marketing team, would frequently go to Toy Fairs in Asia, where "any product that really looked good that was exciting we didn't care where it came from. We did some work with Bandai, who had been working with other people, and took a few products that looked right for our line". The Super Valkyrie, then, must have met their criteria for inclusion.

* As a larger toy, it would follow that Hasbro would want to sell Jetfire by including him in the Transformers animated series. However, even though Hasbro had the rights to release Takatoku's Super Valkyrie in the US Transformers toyline, Hasbro's chief collaborator on Transformers was still Takara. It may have been that Takara always had plans to air the Transformer animated series in their own market (as it featured a majority of their products), and objected to the inclusion of a competitor's product on the show. This may also be why no other Takatoku-designed toys appeared in the series, although their relatively smaller sizes as compared to Jetfire may have been a factor in Hasbro not including them.

* As the theory goes, the Jetfire animation model was adjusted to look less like the toy as a compromise to Takara. However - perhaps because it now failed to look like the product it was supposed to be advertising - the character became "Skyfire".

* Conversely, it is possible that licensing issues played in to the decisions to change Jetfire to Skyfire; the story bible for G1 writers mentions how Jetfire had been "transformed" into Skyfire for "legal reasons". See also Trivia.

* The evidence of Robotech influencing Jetfire-related decisions is murky. That show began airing in syndication in March of 1985, whereas "Fire In The Sky", the first episode with Skyfire, aired December 8th, 1984 - and would have had to have been written and animated much before then. Statements indicate that it took nine months to edit Robotech together, placing the start of production somewhere around July of 1984. So... who knows. All that's certain is that Hasbro licensing the Super Valkyrie seemingly did prevent the use of that toy in Matchbox's Robotech toyline.

Beyond Prupis's statement and the notes in the story bible, however, nothing supporting (or denying) any of the previous statements have come out.

Trivia
* The story bible for the original animated series contains a different character model for Jetfire, one clearly based on the actual toy. This model did appear twice "fictionally," once as a partially-obscured background character in the second Marvel Comics issue, and again in the animated portion of the commercial for Jetfire and Shockwave. It would also occasionally crop up in secondary media, such as coloring books.

* In fact, the Transformers story bible offers seemingly contradictory statements on Jetfire/Skyfire. An early page notes how "JETFIRE has been "transformed" into SKYFIRE -- with a different model -- due to legal reasons. Do not use this character unless necessary" , whereas a subsequent page on new Season 2 characters notes that "Although Reflector should no longer be used as a character in the series, JETFIRE will be redesigned and reintroduced in the near future". As the Valkyrie-derived animation model never appeared in the cartoon, and Skyfire was never redesigned, it's uncertain just what these notes refer to.

*It's believed that there were some trademark issues with the name "Optimus Prime" in the Netherlands due to a manufacturer of kitchen utensils named "Optimus". Whether or not this was actually the case, Milton Bradley did not initially release Optimus Prime's toy, referred to Jetfire as the Autobot leader, and called Optimus "Jetfire" in the Dutch translation of the Marvel comic! Whatever the problem was, it was later rectified, as the Optimus Prime toy was later released and they stopped calling him "Jetfire" in the comic.

* The Energon Omnicon Skyblast was created as an homage to Skyfire. He would have been given the name "Skyfire" as well, but the trademark had been secured (and Registered) by Hasbro rival Mattel. Also on the homage front, Robot Masters R Blade features a very Jetfirey deco.

The original GoBots were the main competition for Hasbro's Transformers in the 1980s. Notably, their launch actually preceded that of the Transformers own, although they ultimately proved not to have the same level of lasting popularity.

Toyline
Premiering in 1984, Tonka's GoBots toys were mostly small, similar in size to Transformers Mini Vehicles, although they were generally more complex than similarly-sized Transformers. After the line's initial success, a series of larger Super GoBots toys was also released, featuring both new characters and larger versions of some pre-existing toys. Tonka also released a number of supporting toys such as spaceships, bases, the monster "Zod", and later a set of combining "Power Suits" which GoBots figures could be placed into.

In 1991, Hasbro bought Tonka and its subsidiaries (including Kenner), and at that time acquired all of Tonka's intellectual property, including jurisdiction over GoBots-related names and trademarks. The GoBots toys themselves, however, are still owned by Bandai, who had merely licensed the toys to Tonka during GoBots lifetime.

GoBots got its start as a Japanese toyline called Machine Robo which was created by Takara-competitor Bandai. Machine Robo toys were initially marketed in the United States under the name Machine Men by Bandai themselves, but the line didn't see widespread success until Tonka adapted the toyline into GoBots and created a new animated series for the brand, as well as an array of supporting merchandise such as coloring books, stickers, and even an official GoBots magazine.

(For Transformers fans, this situation is similar to how some Generation 1 Transformer molds were released by Takara in the Diakron toyline before their partnership with Hasbro began.)

International
Besides distributing them in the United States as Machine Men, Bandai also sold the Machine Robo toys in other non-Asian countries before their partnership with Tonka began. Bandai appeared to retain the international marketing rights to the series following the change to GoBots, and so adapted their international toylines when the line was rebranded.

In Europe, where the toyline began as Robo Machine, the packaging changed over a period of time to reflect Tonka's developments, eventually touting iself as Challenge of the GoBots: a Robo Machine product. In Australia, however, the toyline began with the Machine Men title, which it evidently retained even after the rebranding in the United States.

Cartoon
The cartoon, called Challenge of the GoBots, was produced in the United States by Hanna-Barbara. It aired in some markets outside the US (possibly just Australia) with the title Challenge of the Machine Men.

The cartoon focused on the interstellar struggle between the friendly Guardian GoBots, led by Leader-1, and their enemies, the Renegade GoBots, led by Cy-Kill.

In addition to the leaders, the main GoBot cast included Turbo (a rough-and-tumble Guardian), Scooter (a cowardly young Guardian), Crasher (a cackling Renegade madwoman), and Cop-Tur (a thuggish Renegade). The series was rounded out with human allies and enemies, along with various GoBot guest stars and other aliens.

Of note is the fact that though their tagline was "Might robots, Mighty vehicles" the cartoon established that GoBots were not true robots but rather cyborgs. The Gobots began as a race of alien humans who slowly learned to replace their organic parts with mechanical ones. Even modern, seemingly fully robotic GoBots apparently retained some of their original organic components inside.

GoBots appeared in one theatrically released film where they met the Rocklords, a spinoff line Tonka was launching involving robots that transformed into rocks. (Yes, rocks. No, they must not have seen "Big." Or "It's The Great Pumpkin; Charlie Brown.")

Impact on Transformers
Following Hasbro's acquisition of Tonka and Kenner, the GoBots universe has largely remained idle - with some notable exceptions.

The first modern GoBots-specific reference - beyond use of the brand name itself - came in the form of Armada Leader-1, the Mini-Con under the control of Megatron, who shares his name with the leader of the heroic Guardian GoBots.

At one point, the Mini-Con Dead End was going to be called "Gobotron", in reference to the home planet of the GoBots. However, the idea was ultimately discarded.

Unexpectedly, the most direct usage of the GoBots characters in Transformers has come not from Hasbro, but Takara. As part of their e-Hobby line of collector toys, six redecoed Mini Vehicles were released as the "Dimensional Exploration/Experimentation Team G1 GoBots". The included Bio and Tech Spec card alludes to concepts and technology from Tonka GoBots fiction, with the toys themselves representing various GoBot characters. However, the individual character names were dropped just prior to release, making their official status somewhat blurry.
:Starscream is a Decepticon in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Starscream is the treacherous Decepticon Air Commander. He's famous not only for his incredible skill, but also for his limitless (and troublesome) ambition. Starscream believes that he is more suited for command than Decepticon Leader Megatron. Thankfully for Megatron, Starscream's mutinous, powergrabbing plots are almost always transparent. Despite his constant failures, Starscream believes it is only a matter of time before he prevails -- his destiny is inevitable.

Unlike most Transformers, he has a mutant, indestructable Spark. His lifeforce cannot be destroyed and can persist even without a body to contain it.

Italian name: Astrum<br>

Starscream helped invade the Ark, got deactivated. Woke up, questioned Megatron, got deactivated. Fought Omega Supreme, got deactivated. Was mysteriously active when meeting Cobra. Rescued by Ratbat's forces on the Moon, Starscream set about a chain of systematic betrayals that temporarily gained him almost limitless power thanks to the Underbase, but ultimately resulted in both Ratbat's death and his own (not to mention about 75% of the entire G1 cast up to that point).

Dreadwing and Darkwind were sent by Megatron to reclaim Starscream's charred corpse on planet Earth. Starscream's remains were possessed by the essence of the Underbase and went on a psychotic rampage, nearly killing Dr. Susan Hoffman and her Assistants. The Underbase eventually realised it was acting insane and regained control, but as soon as it did, Dreadwing and Darkwind siphoned all the power out of it and Starscream's corpse returned to being an inanimate pile of scrap which the pair quickly collected.

Starscream's remains were delivered to Megatron, who kidnapped Ratchet to rebuild Starscream with a powerful Pretender shell. He suffered a crisis of confidence upon reawakening, which he soon overcame in time to betray everyone again. Starscream fled Cybertron with Shockwave after Unicron's assault, was deactivated. Rebuilt by Megatron, betrayed him and stole the Matrix.

Starscream discovered firsthand the dangers of stealing the Matrix. While he held it, the Matrix rewrote his programming to better suit its own tastes. As a result, Starscream emerged a snow-white boy scout with no mounted weapons that would never hurt a fly and went out of his way to help old ladies across the street. (More or less.)

He fervently hopes the effect is only temporary.

Animated continuity
Voice Actor: Chris Latta (US), Hirotaka Suzuoki (Japan)

Starscream was the Decepticons' second-in-command. He was rash, boastful, cowardly, and even whiney. His rash and spiteful actions led to the resurrection of the Autobots on Earth, when a blast intended to trap the Autobots there forever caused Optimus Prime to fall into the life giving rays of Teletraan-I, who soon had all his fellow autobots ready for action again. Starscream would always demand action rather than waste time with planning, often calling Megatron a coward or taking action himself without waiting for the order. Needless to say, this got him nearly killed by Megatron on more than one occasion.

Starscream's status probably came from the fact he had command over the other Jet Fighter Decipticons, which formed pretty much 50% of the entire Decepticon force at the time of the first and second seasons.

Starscream's ambition was also great, and often sought to take command away from Megatron. One such attempt was to challenge him to a duel, and shoot him in the back when he turned away laughing. His "Victory" here was short lived, as Megatron was just stunned, shot Starscream, and banished him from his forces. This led Starscream to "create" the Combaticons, from a bunch of wrecked army vehicles he found on the island he was deserted on, and some Decepticon "Brains" he stole from the Decepticon Prison. Megatron let him, and his newly formed army, back into the Decepticons soon afterwards, despite the fact they were all Decepticon outcasts and criminals.

Starscream's thirst for leadership led to his death in The Transformers: The Movie, when, during the Decepticon's dramatic seige on Autobot City, Megatron would fight his final battle with Optimus Prime. By the end of it, the Decepticon leader was battered beyond repair, left on the verge of stasis lock. Starscream, who if nothing else can see an opportunity in every situation, took advantage of this moment of weakness to rally the healthy Decepticons that remained after the battle, ejecting the "dead weight" of his wounded former comrades into space. Starscream, with transparent satisfaction, threw Megatron out personally, before closing the door on that part of Transformers history and beginning an inter-Decepticon brawl that would eventually place him at the head of the ranks.

Starscream couldn't have known, of course, that Megatron would be found and reshaped by the godlike Unicron before his Spark faded completely. Reborn as Galvatron, he made it his first order of business to take back what Starscream had taken, interrupting the pompous and overblown coronation Starscream had set up for himself and killing him with a single, terrible blast, likely setting a record for the shortest reign in Decepticon history.

This was not the end, however, as his ghost came back, with "cunning" schemes. First he possessed Cyclonus, and handed Galvatron over to Rodimus Prime. Rodmius didn't kill or even imprison Galvatron however, and he came back angered, and shot his second in command, not realising he had not been himself. Starscream had already found a new host in Scourge by this time, whom he used in his next "master plan". This one involved making deals with Unicron, who requested Starscream help him find new body parts, in return for a new body for himself. Starscream followed his orders exactly, until his host ran off before his could connect Unicron's head to Cybertron as a new body. This is where Starscream showed his "true cunning", stating that if Unicron wanted him to connect him to his new Planet, he would have to give him his new body first. Unicron did so, repeating his request to finish connecting his head to his new body, however Starscream turned on him immediately, telling him mockingly to do it himself. At this point, the autobots set off a load of explosives, unaware of these turn of events, that sent Starscream, in his new body, spinning out of control through space, past Galvatron and his crew (Galvatron took this chance to fire at what he thought was a ghost), and never to be seen again.

One last thing to note is Cyclonus's line after the last glimpse of Starscream: "Hey, since when have ghosts spun out of control through space?"

Japanese manga
Between the events of "Starscream's Ghost" and "Ghost in the Machine" the 5th issue of the Transformers 2010 manga (simply called "The Transformer") takes place. In this story, Starscream's ghost teams up with the Quintessons who build him a powerful new body. The new body, equipped with attacks such as "Right Arm Destron Gun" and the "Revolver Laser", was created using a combination of Optimus Prime's and Megatron's designs. The result is Guiltar.

Guiltar joins the Decepticons and quickly becomes Galvatron's right-hand man (literally, in like, 5 seconds). Galvatron tricks Rodimus Prime into engaging him in a one-on-one battle and fake's defeat. When Rodimus least suspects it, Guiltar attacks and wrecks his shit. Galvatron compliments Guiltar on his power and loyalty, and instinctively, Guiltar beats the crap out of Galvatron and declares his ambition to take-over the Decepticons. Rodimus Prime and Galvatron call a truce and join forces to defeat Guiltar. They wreck him something fierce, destorying his body and forcing Starscream's ghost out. They then end the truce and go about their business.

Beast Wars
Voice Actor: Doug Parker (US), Kazuki Yao (Japan)

Starscream's ghost travelled through time and space to the prehistoric earth of the Beast Wars, where he possessed Waspinator's body during an electrical storm. He ingratiated himself with Megatron, claiming that he had been destroyed by Unicron while protecting Galvatron. After leading a successful raid on the Axalon, he was left in command of the captured Maximal ship, along with Blackarachnia and Scorponok, the former of whom he took as his 'protege'. When the defeated Maximals surrendered to him, he took Dinobot and Optimus Primal hostage and ordered the remaining Maximals to attack the Darkside - Scorponok objected, but he was very forcefully overruled. Shortly after the attack began, the two captive Maximals broke out and drove the Predacons out of the Axalon. Starscream fled, pursued by Primal, and abandoned Blackarachnia to her fate. After a spirited chase, Primal cornered Starscream at an energon deposit, paralysing him. As he tried to bargain his way out of his predicament, his vengeful ex-partner Blackarachnia detonated the energon, blowing Waspinator to scrap and forcing Starscream's spark out of his body.

Adrift in space once more, Starscream's ghost screamed vengeance into the void...
Voice actors: Kunihiro Kawamoto (Japan)

When Beast Megatron travelled back in time to modern day Earth in search of solitarium, he immediately recruited Starscream to his cause. Starscream went head to head with another time-displaced transformer, Star Saber only to find himself defeated once Optimus Prime arrived as back-up. Beast Megatron, arriving on Smokesniper, saved Starscream from a crashing into the ground but quickly chucked him aside after lamenting over the Decepticon's worthlessless.

Later, Beast Megatron discovered a large deposit of solitarium beneath New York City and ordered the Decepticons to tear the city apart. Starscream, Smokesniper, Gigant Bomb and Wingstun did just that, blowing up buildings and razing a good portion of the Big Apple. Starscream was then shot out of the sky by another time-displaced Autobot, Reverse Convoy. Reverse Convoy quickly gained the trust of the other Autobots after being seen blasting Starscream. 10 seconds later, Reverse Convoy reveals himself as the original Megatron, now going by the name Rebirth Megatron. Makes sense.

IDW comics continuity
Starscream is the leader of a Decepticon insurgent cell that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, working to destabilise Earth's governing organisations and create global anarchy. However, since the discovery of the mysterious, Energon-like substance, Ore-13, Starscream has stepped outside standard procedure, establishing a second command bunker in Oregon above a richer seam of the ore than the one in Nebraska and ordering Blitzwing and Skywarp to cover his tracks. Starscream intended to use Ore-13 to challenge Megatron for leadership of the Decepticons, but when the moment of truth finally arrived, the energy source proved insufficient to destroy the Decepticon leader, and Megatron blasted Starscream with his fusion cannon at point blank range, virtually obliterating him. It is unclear whether or not Starscream will recover, as Megatron told the other Decepticons, "See to the remains. If he lives, then I'll decide what to do with him."
Kiss Players continuity
Radio drama
One night, the disembodied spirit of a Transformer possessed the body of the E.D.C. Kiss Player Atari Hitotonari. Discovering that it could not transfer itself to the bodies of other Transformers with souls, it forced Atari to seek out the twisted Doctor Arkeville, who built it a new body converted from a stolen fighter jet. Kissing it, Atari transferred the spirit into its new form. Starscream was reborn!

A couple of minutes later, Starscream's new body got blown up by Autroopers and his ghost flew back into space again.
E-Hobby's exclusive for this reissiue was a set with Ghost Starscream (in transparent colors), and Black Starscream, which had colors based off of the Machine Wars toy. An all-clear lucky draw was made for a contest with Transformers: Generations, although due to the demise of the publisher, it's never been confirmed if this came out.
:Starscream's Robot Masters toy is a reimagining of the original toy, designed to be closer to the animation model, with greater poseability and integrated parts that did not require detachment during transformation (with the exception of his null-ray blasters). After re-engineering the design to stay roughly in one piece during transformation, Takara then gave him chromed missile pods that attach to his chestplate. Although not his usual choice of weapon, these are show-accurate: Starscream used them once in the episode "Fire On The Mountain" to attack Trailbreaker and Brawn.
