Deep within a newly reformatted technorganic Cybertron, the Wreckers battled Cryotek, mastermind behind and benefactor of a far-reaching plot to capture the Divine Light for himself and use its power to siphon the power of Primus himself. Even still, Cryotek's powers were greater, and he and Sentinel Maximus fought a prolonged battle through the corridors of Cybertron. Their battle's path was directed according to instructions from their Quintesson guide, Al-Badur, which landed both of them within a Quintesson banishment chamber. Unfortunately for Sentinel Maximus, the Quintesson activated the chamber with all three inside, trapped in front of a dimensional portal with a powerful pull. As Sentinel Maximus and Cryotek fought each other while trying to keep their distance from the portal, help arrived. Cheetor and a battle-weakened Rodimus, both Matrix Templars, used their abilities to drain power from the Divine Light which was empowering Cryotek. While this did remove power from Cryotek and shrink him to a more accommodating size, he still possessed enough power to threaten Cybertron and its inhabitants. Selflessly, Sentinel Maximus shoved Cryotek through the portal, and the two vanished through it.

Both found themselves hovering in a dark, empty dimension, but before Cryotek could reach Sentinel Maximus, the latter was taken away by Primus to do battle elsewhere in the multiverse. Wreckers: Finale Part II
Fluctuations in the fabric of the multiverse caused by the Unicron Singularity pulled Sentinel Maximus out of the Universe war and into the center of the Unicron Trilogy's Cybertron near the beginning of the search for the Cyber Planet Keys. Recruited by Alpha Trion to assist Vector Prime, they were all suddenly under attack by Unicron's minions, Ramjet and Nemesis Prime. Sentinel Maximus fought back, but his adversaries retreated after destroying both Alpha Trion and Vector Sigma. Balancing Act

After discovering that his battle with the zombie Dark Scorponok at the Kalis Primary Energon Reserves Control was just a diversion, Sentinel Maximus, along with Vector Prime, hunted down the two deep within Cybertron near the chamber that held Primus's lifeforce. Balancing Act, Part 4 Vector Prime fought Ramjet, taking their battle far into Cybertron's atmosphere, while Sentinel Maximus tried to prevent Nemesis Prime from unleashing the Dead Matrix on Primus's lifeforce, which would allow Unicron to defeat Primus and consume the multiverse, ending all existence forever. Sentinel Maximus failed, and Nemesis Prime sealed himself into the chamber alone, Balancing Act, Pt 5 being stopped only by the chance appearance of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus from the Robots in Disguise universe. Revelations Part 1
While Sentinel Maximus was occupied, Skyfall and Landquake disappeared in a devastating explosion. Sentinel Maximus mourned Skyfall's apparent death and voiced an apology to Vector Prime. * Sentinel Maximus went through several names before he saw release, the most notable being "Vector Prime." Hasbro rejected the name because they didn't want to dilute the concept of Primes, but later used it themselves for Cybertron Vector Prime anyway.
* Despite Sentinel Maximus's name change, his shipping carts still said "Vector Prime" on them.
* Early on, Sentinel Maximus was to come with translucent redecos of the Cyberjet molds, meant to represent three sparks trapped inside the Divine Light for whom he downloaded digital bodies into reality. Instead, Hasbro decided to use those molds themselves for Universe.

* Sentinel Maximus's paint mock-up featured the Wreckers faction symbol (the Autobot symbol with a hammer for its forehead) tampoed on his shoulder and the inside of his right arm (seen to the right). The production piece mistakenly had normal Autobot symbols instead. Additionally, his bigger head was originally sculpted to be much wider (also seen to the right), and feature Prime-like antenna, but these didn't fit well during transformation, so his head was narrowed to eliminate the antenna.
* Due to 3H Productions' loss of the convention license, Hasbro mailed out the Sentinel Maximus toys to their owners, using old mailing lists that had many outdated addresses. Some buyers never got theirs at all.
* Because of 3H's then-recent dissolution, Hasbro recreated an entire new packaging design, box art, and profile, presumably to avoid a potential legal battle. The packaging bio avoids mentioning details of 3H's Wreckers story, neglecting to note Primal Prime and Apelinq's union, and referencing Cryotek vaguely by describing a battle with a "diabolical and long-forgotten entity from the polar regions of Cybertron." Instead, Sentinel Maximus is described as a herald of Primus who emerges from the "shadows of Time to serve as a guardian over Cybertron during its darkest hour."
* Furthermore, instead of the intended name "Hyperlinq" for the Mini-Con, "Ape-Linq" is used on Sentinel Maximus's packaging, possibly because the trademark for the former had not yet been secured. Curiously, there are no trademarks claimed, registered or otherwise, next to Sentinel Maximus's name anywhere on the box. Trademark is claimed for Sentinel Maximus on the photocopied set of instructions included inside.
When Primal Prime was critically damaged in a battle with Cryotek, Apelinq made the ultimate sacrifice, allowing the ancient supercomputer Vector Sigma to merge his Spark and Primal Prime's into Sentinel Maximus. Sentinel Maximus combines Primal Prime's power, charisma, and direct link to the knowledge of the Matrix with Apelinq's strategic genius and ability to download virtual objects into reality. When a smaller, more stealthy form is preferable, the cab portion of his armored transport mode can disengage and transform into Hyperlinq. He has no known physical weaknesses.
Universe: Featuring the Wreckers
Deep within a newly reformatted technorganic Cybertron, the Wreckers battled Cryotek, mastermind behind and benefactor of a far-reaching plot to capture the Divine Light for himself and use its power to siphon the power of Primus himself. As Cryotek mutated himself into a gigantic entity with the abilities of a god, the empowered Predacon fired upon Apelinq, but it was Primal Prime who dove to take the shot. Instead of saving Apelinq, the two were fused together and fell, defeated.

But this was not the end for either. Apelinq and Primal Prime were merged by Primus into the mighty Sentinel Maximus.

After this battle, Vector Prime had defeated Ramjet, but was severely drained. He left the enigmatic Velocitronian Skyfall in the obviously capable hands of Sentinel Maximus, with instructions to take him far, far away and keep him safe, for Skyfall was very important for unspecified reasons. Revelations Part 2

A while later, Sentinel Maximus brought Skyfall with him to help end the violently dangerous Mini-Con civil war that had erupted on Cybertron's moons. Revelations Part 4 The civil war was actually constructed by the newly reborn Unicron, who wished to kill Skyfall and the likewise-important Landquake. Unicron attacked Sentinel Maximus, singling out the "Chosen of Primus," and Sentinel Maximus was unable to get the tinier Dark God off him. He cried for help from Omega Prime, who succeeded in blasting Unicron away from him. Revelations Part 5

While Sentinel Maximus was occupied, Skyfall and Landquake disappeared in a devastating explosion. Sentinel Maximus mourned Skyfall's apparent death and voiced an apology to Vector Prime. The war was ended immediately when Primus appeared in robot mode above them, causing Unicron to flee.

Months later, after the threat of the Unicron Singularity was removed and the war between the Autobots and Decepticons was ended, Sentinel Maximus and the rest of his crew met that universe's Optimus Prime and his troops. He learned of Vector Prime's death and told Override of Skyfall's demise. Revelations Part 6
An unspecified time later, Sentinel Maximus was gathered in Axiom Nexus by its Optimus Prime, along with a roster of other Optimus Primes and their kin. A multiversal cataclysm in a universe seeded with Rarified Energon and an invasion by natives from the negative polarity universe had called them into action. Since Matrix bearers were never allowed into Axiom Nexus, this was a grave threat indeed! Invasion Prologue
:Thrust is a Decepticon from the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Thrust is one of Megatron's higher-ranking Decepticon soldiers (and a total wack job). He is a master of tactics and battle strategies. However he is not unwilling to betray Megatron or team up with some scum bags if it means getting what he wants. He has the ability to cloak which comes in handy for sneaking into places he needs to go. His occasional Mini-Con partner is Inferno, plus sometimes he commands the Air Military Mini-Con Team.

Fiction
Armada cartoon
:Voice actor: Colin Murdoch (English), Kōji Yusa (Japanese), Márcio Seixas (Portuguese), Jhonny Torres (Spanish, Latin America), Kai Taschner (German)

Thrust was a renowned tactician who orchestrated Decepticon victories on the planets Vector which resulted in the deaths of all the Autobots station there. He also lead the attacks on planet Orga, and Duke. Linkup

He later joined Megatron on Earth in an attempt to improve his soldiers' relations. He picked his own Mini-Con partner, Inferno, from among the other Mini-Cons the Decepticons had locked up in the closet. Thrust then concocted a brilliant plan to eliminate Optimus Prime by luring the Autobots into a gully with a fake Mini-Con signal. While the Decepticons kept the trapped Autobots under constant fire, Megatron then singled out Optimus, separating him from his men and the Skyboom Shield. This would have been the end of Optimus if Jetfire, Optimus's second-in-command, hadn't arrived and thrown off Thrust's plans. Tactician Thrust then devised a new plan both to steal the Skyboom Shield and to destroy Jetfire in revenge for his interference. Thrust lured Jetfire to an area above the ocean where he, Starscream, Cyclonus, the Air Military Mini-Con Team, and the Air Defense Mini-Con Team attacked the Autobot. Though they'd underestimated Jetfire's reluctance to attack Mini-Cons, Thrust's force soon proved to be overwhelming for the Autobot vice-commander. When the other Autobots appeared on a nearby island to assist Jetfire, Megatron led a small attack intent on stealing the Skyboom Shield. But once again, victory was stolen from Thrust by the unforeseen: Optimus warped to Jetfire's location and Powerlinxed with him, allowing him to defeat the Decepticons. Thrust, however, was amused by the new change and said that the war had gotten more interesting. Linkup

Thrust later told Megatron there was a reason why his plans hadn't worked, besides the unexpected turn of events from the Autobots: The Autobots were inferior to the Decepticons in all aspects except for their ability to work as a team. Megatron took this as a slight against his ability to lead and nearly sliced Thrust apart with the Star Saber. Thrust explained that the reason the Decepticons hadn't been working together so well was because there was a lack of unity—all the while looking pointedly at Sideways. Sideways then determined that Thrust was a danger to his plan, so he convinced Demolishor that Thrust was going to overthrow Megatron and had him attack the tactician. However, Thrust had anticipated such an attempt, and he had Starscream tail Sideways when the mystery 'bot made his report to whomever his leader truly was. Megatron then allowed Thrust to take on Sideways himself. Thrust would have destroyed Sideways if the troublemaker hadn't transformed into a swarm of nanites and flown away. Detection

Thrust later participated in a battle with the Autobots over a Mini-Con panel found on a beach. During the fight, an enormous Decepticon battleship called Tidal Wave landed in the ocean nearby. After a moment of pointing out Tidal Wave's capabilities, Thrust ordered Tidal Wave to open fire on the Autobots. Tidal Wave kept the Autobots under constant pressure until Hot Shot and Blurr dove down underneath Tidal Wave and attacked his underbelly. Tidal Wave sank, much to Thrust's consternation. But his confidence was restored when Tidal Wave emerged from the water in robot mode and began to attack the Autobots again. Awakening Tidal Wave swiftly changed the tide of battle for the Decepticons. Even Jet Optimus proved no match for him. Of course, Thrust did reserve the final blow to Optimus for Megatron and had Tidal Wave combine with the Decepticon leader. During the midair battle, Megatron successfully separated Optimus from Jetfire and left him to plummet to the ocean below. However, the Space Mini-Con Team appeared and combined to form the Requiem Blaster. Thrust immediately moved to take the powerful weapon, but Optimus kicked him away and used the Blaster to slow his descent and land safely. With the Requiem Blaster in Optimus's hands, Megatron ordered a retreat. Desperate Realizing that the Requiem Blaster was the key to the Decepticons' victory, Thrust began using satellites to keep an eye on the Autobots for a chance to steal it. He soon noticed the human kids on a bus with the Space Mini-Con Team. He watched the kids head to an abandoned barn away from the Autobots. Thrust then warped to the farm and attempted to steal the Mini-Cons. However, the kids had set several primitive, but oddly effective, booby traps to detain the Decepticon. Thrust eventually lost his temper and started smashing the barn they were hiding in. But then Optimus Prime appeared and fought Thrust off using his Super Mode. Thrust had no choice but to retreat, swearing that this wasn't over. Runaway Thrust spotted Hot Shot on his way to fight Wheeljack and decided to follow. When Hot Shot was wandering around in the inferno looking for Side Swipe, Thrust divebombed him and started pelting him with laser blasts. Wheeljack was furious that Thrust interfered with his revenge and shot the Decepticon jet out of the skies. When Wheeljack came to join the rest of the Decepticons, an injured Thrust protested against it on the grounds that Wheeljack was crazy. Megatron dismissed Thrust's protests and welcomed Wheeljack to the Decepticon fold. Past II

Thrust conceived another plan that would end with the Requiem Blaster in Megatron's hands, which entailed giving the Star Saber to Starscream. The Decepticons lured the Autobots out into a jungle. There, Starscream started attacking them in the hopes that the Autobots would have to use the Requiem Blaster to fight back. However, none of the Autobots seemed to be using the Requiem Blaster. As Thrust was flying over the battlefield to investigate, Sideways sent him a series of images of the Autobot base and the Space Team Mini-Cons. While Thrust dismissed this a hallucination, he realized that the Mini-Cons that formed the Requiem Blaster were at the Autobot base. He informed Megatron and the Decepticons warped away, leaving Starscream behind. At the Autobot base, Megatron stole the Space Team Mini-Cons from Smokescreen and then used the Requiem Blaster to blast a hole through Smokescreen. However, Smokescreen was steadfast in his resolve to protect the Mini-Cons and limped towards Megatron. Intimidated by his refusal to die, Thrust suggested that the Decepticons leave since they had what they came for, to which Megatron agreed. The Decepticons warped back to their base, leaving Smokescren to grab empty air. Sacrifice At the base, Thrust was enjoying the praise Megatron was giving him for the success for his plan when Starscream stomped in. Bitter and angry for being left behind, Starscream threw Thrust into the wall and hit him with the hilt of the Star Saber. Starscream would have probably done more if Megatron hadn't ordered him to stand down and get himself repaired. Later, Megatron and Thrust were talking about Starscream's shortcomings as a warrior and his usefulness as a scapegoat. Thrust praised Megatron's ability to be so cold to his own soldiers and joined in his laugh. However, the entire conversation was overheard by Starscream. Infuriated at being considered worthless, Starscream attacked Megatron and Thrust before flying to Earth to join the Autobots, taking the Star Saber with him. Regeneration Starscream later returned and he brought the Autobots through the warpgate. When the invasion force entered the throne room, Megatron fired the Requiem Blaster at Starscream, but the rebuilt Smokescreen pushed him out of the way and blocked the blast with the Skyboom Shield, creating a large burst of light. While everyone was blinded by the light, Thrust offered to act as a decoy to cover Megatron's retreat, which Megatron agreed to. However, the Autobots eventually rescued the Decepticons' Mini-Cons and warped back to their base. Rescue

Angered by Starscream's betrayal and the loss of the Mini-Cons, Megatron took out his frustration on the lunar landscape. The other Decepticons were so interested in watching that Thrust had to remind them that without the Mini-Cons, they had to build the spaceship themselves. The Decepticons went off to work, obviously not caring much for Thrust. Thrust started to get rather irritated at the lack of respect he was getting. But then he heard a creepy laugh and ran out to the scrapyard to see what was causing it. Then Sideways appeared and told him that the Requiem Blaster's power is a mere fraction compared to the power it has with the Star Saber and the Skyboom Shield. Recalling previous examples, Thrust realize that the three Mini-Con weapons did have a greater power when they were together. He questioned whether the three weapons could combine, but Sideways had already disappeared. Nevertheless, Thrust was left with the inspiration to obtain the sword and shield to combine them with the gun. Thrust presented his information to Megatron, who was also intrigued. When a new Mini-Con was detected on Mars, Thrust sent Tidal Wave to 'greet' Jetfire and Starscream, who were the only two on the Autobot team who were capable of reaching Mars. Some time later, Tidal Wave reported that he'd found both of them and they had the Star Saber, the Skyboom Shield, and the new Mini-Con. Megatron immediately warped over there with Thrust close behind him. Thrust got there just in time to see the three Mini-Con weapons react to each other and unleash a huge burst of golden energy. The explosion scattered the Decepticons and allowed the Autobots to escape, but it confirmed that the three weapons were far more powerful when used together. Mars (episode)

Hated by all the other Decepticons due to his superior attitude, Thrust began to shrink into himself and got more desperate to prove his power. After forming an alliance, Thrust and Sideways discussed how to get all three Mini-Con weapons into the Decepticons' hands. Thrust conceived a plan to ensure this and presented to Megatron, who approved. Thrust sent a message to Starscream on the Autobots' communication frequency. Starscream went outside to investigate and Thrust approached him. Starscream angrily slashed at Thrust with his sword while Thrust dodged and turned invisible intermetidly. He told Starscream that he too was fed up with Megatron's rule and suggested that Megatron would be easier to bring down if he were back on the Decepticons' side. Megatron would surely welcome Starscream back if Starscream brought the Skyboom Shield with him. He left Starscream to ponder these thoughts. Later, the Decepticons launched an attack on the Autobot base. Thrust and Starscream met above the clouds where Thrust insisted that Starscream join up with him so they could defeat Megatron. Starscream lashed out at Thrust with the Star Saber, but was unable to make himself destroy the tactician. Realizing his time with the kids was making him softer, Starscream was able to be persuaded by Thrust to steal the Skyboom Shield and warp away with him back to the Decepticon base. Crack

As Thrust predicted, Megatron welcomed Starscream back with open arms when he presented him with the Star Saber and the Skyboom Shield. However, Starscream was still distrustful of Thrust and dragged him out to the scrapyard to learn what was really going on. Thrust gladly told Starscream about the Decepticons' project to build a weapon that would harness the power created when the three Mini-Con weapons were brought together. Starscream was still sore about being manipulated, but Thrust claimed that it was so that Starscream could be leader of the Decepticons and he had to hide it from the others so they wouldn't be suspicious. However, if Starscream didn't believe this, Thrust was willing to subject himself to any fate Starscream wished. Placated, the Seeker walked off, sparing Thrust. Sideways then congratulated Thrust on his act, Thrust saying that he learned from the best. Then Thrust told Megatron about his idea to build a large cannon called the Hydra Cannon that would be powered by the Mini-Con Weapons. The Hydra Cannon would be attached to the Decepticons' ship which would both make up the front half of the ship and name the ship. Deciding to test the cannon first, Thrust found a comet that was passing through the solar system and targeted it. He was not disappointed when the tremendous blast from the Hydra Cannon obliterated the comet. Thrust giddily suggested that they head back to Cybertron and conquer it. Megatron agreed, but he want to blast one last thing before they left: the Autobots' base along with the rest of the Earth. Threaten While Thrust prepared the Hydra Cannon for another shot, Megatron decided to pass the time by giving Thrust the new nickname 'Squidhead', which all the Decepticons found hilarious except Thrust. Megatron explained that he and the men were just giddy to return home. However, Thrust secretly retaliated by calling Megatron 'Flathead' under his breath and giggling about it. His actions prompted Megatron to call him a freak. When Starscream was chosen to fire the Hydra Cannon, the Seeker had doubts about destroying the Earth and Thrust tried to persuade him to do it or Megatron would cut him down. Starscream's moral debate was called off when Optimus and Jetfire attacked the starship while it was getting ready to fire. While the other Decepticons battled the two Autobots, Megatron gave Thrust the order to fire the Hydra Cannon. However, Optimus Prime stood in the path of the beam and blocked it from hitting Earth. Thrust watched as Optimus disintegrated into a thousand pieces and then had the ship retreat on Megatron's orders. Crisis

charstubfiction

Eventually, Thrust joined Sideways with the lure of ultimate power, and managed to steal the three Mini-Con weapons that were the keys to reactivating Unicron's body. Thrust met his demise when he demanded Unicron attack his former master, Galvatron, only to have Unicron act totally unaware of Thrust's presence. Thrust fell into a seam on Unicron's surface which began to tighten and close as Unicron moved, and was crushed to death as Galvatron walked away.
Armada comic
Thrust was a somewhat cowboy-like entity that served the Decepticons loyally. He was devoted to Megatron, and followed his orders faithfully. Thrust first appeared via transwarp from Cybertron, carrying rocket boosters so the Decepticons could fly to the moon and capture the Mini-Cons stationed there. Dreamwave Armada issue 9 He stayed at the Decepticon base at Silver Ridge, where he failed to help Starscream deal with two Autobot intruders. Dreamwave Armada issue 10

Later, Thrust was sent to northern Alaska to back up Cyclonus, who was there to retrieve a fallen Mini-Con escape pod. First Thrust took a torch-blast to the face from Dune Runner of the Adventure Mini-Con Team, who was there to save his allies. Then he was knocked around by Cyclonus, who was feeling the effects of a triple-Powerlinx with the entire Destruction Mini-Con Team, which began to burn out his circuits and drive him mad with pain. Fire & Ice When he finally came to, between Cyclonus' breakdown, the arrival of the Autobots, and Megatron using an orbiting Solar Scalpel to melt the ice that buried the escape pod, Thrust decided maybe he'd better get the heck outta Dodge. Dreamwave Armada issue 13

Later, Thrust followed Starscream to a building lot in San Francisco, to investigate a weird transwarp disturbance. ====Energon comic====
After the destruction of Unicron and the apparent death of Megatron, Thrust became a security officer in the new peacetime. When Starscream mocked the "rebel" Decepticons under Tidal Wave, his former comrade attempted to state his case that there were other Decepticons willing to fight, until Starscream pointed out that Thrust was happy with his "little sheriff's badge" and Demolishor never gave the rebellion a second thought. This Evil Reborn Later, Thrust joined Hot Shot's unit and defended Toronto, Canada from the Terrorcon Divebomb clones when they attacked Earth. When the revenant Megatron appeared and decimated the Terrorcons, Thrust tried to rejoin his former leader, but Megatron completely ignored him, warping to his next destination. Multiplicity, Pt. 4

: Part of the later-series "Powerlinx" line of redecos, Powerlinx Thrust got a new color scheme that was a "reversal" of the Generation 1 "conehead" Dirge, primarily light brown with dark blue and black accents.

: The packaging for this release, however, showed him in a color scheme more like his G1 namesake, burgundy with black (and some bone-white accents). His coloration was changed to the brown-and-blue too late to change the packaging photography.

: The change was made due to Takara choosing a mostly red color scheme for Demolishor (Demolishor's name in Japan was Ironhide and the color scheme was based on the G1 version of said character). Originally Hasbro had different plans for their redeco of Demolishor. But as a result, they changed their plans for Demolishor to match the animation, which was already based on Takara's products. Hasbro then thought there would be too much red on the shelves at the time, so Powerlinx Thrust's coloration was modified, as the figure would not appear on the cartoon. There are some similar colors used between the two versions of the toy, likely due to the quick change in scheme.
However, in December 2003 Takara released red Powerlinx Thrust as a "USA Edition" in Japan, exclusively available at the Toy's Dream Project members store Toycard, in Hasbro packaging (Takara had previously also released a "USA Edition" version of Powerlinx Thrust in Hasbro's colors, this time exclusively available at LaOX stores).

: Curiously enough, Hasbro actually did produce a small run of red Powerlinx Thrust, but never released it on the North American market. Instead, the toy, in European packaging, popped up in Israel in mid-2004, later followed by sightings in Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. The toy was even found in Australia, but only in stores that also occasionally sell toys imported from other countries, and again in European packaging. Furthermore, some of the European countries saw the toy being sold at instant discount prices, which suggests it was old Hasbro warehouse stock which had never seen a shelf release that was now being cleared out.

Hardhead is a soldier to his core. A soldier with a stubborn streak a megamile wide. He's stubborn to the point of rejecting outright any path but his own, any idea that goes against his natural instinct or inclination (namely fighting), and any advice he didn't come up with himself. He doesn't talk much, and when he does, it tends to be blunt and terse, if not outright rude. A soldier doesn't waste time on social niceties when there's a war to fight.

Perhaps surprisingly, given his limited social aptitude, Hardhead has found a good companion in Duros, his binary-bonded Nebulan partner, who enjoys warfare just as much as Hardhead does. The two mesh so well, it's been said that theirs may be the best match among all the Autobot-Nebulan teams.
After the resurrection of Optimus Prime, the Decepticons practically disappeared for a time. On Cybertron, Brainstorm used this reprieve to experiment on pairing Transformers with human partners, though his efforts did not convince Hardhead or Chromedome. Shortly after the exercise, Optimus Prime contacted them, notifying them of the Decepticons' return. They had stolen the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber and were on their way to the chamber itself on Cybertron. Unfortunately, the chamber's activation would destroy Cybertron. Hardhead and several other Autobots commandeered a ship to head off Scourge and Cyclonus before they could reach the Plasma Energy Chamber, and they managed to retrieve the Key, but an energy surge smacked the Autobot ship out of Cybertron's orbit and far into space.

Hardhead and the others crash-landed on a strange planet named Nebulos and were quickly taken captive by an underground resistance movement that believed the Autobots were machines controlled by the Hive, who ruled Nebulos. The Rebirth, Part 1 After Hardhead volunteered to become a Headmaster, he was partnered with Duros. Their first test run against the Hive machines was a cracking success with the pair working to take one down. They followed that up by taking part in the liberation of some Autobots who had been captured by Decepticon forces, easily outclassing their foe. He was the first to welcome Optimus Prime when the Autobot leader arrived on the planet. The Autobot Headmasters and Targetmasters managed to get the stolen key back from the Decepticons, only for Scorponok to reveal himself. The Rebirth, Part 2

With the key back in Decepticon hands, the Autobots headed back to Cybertron in an attempt to regain it. It looked like the Decepticons were planning to open the Plasma Energy Chamber, and the Autobots suddenly found themselves abandoned by their partners. Stuck in vehicle mode, Hardhead and the others tried to storm Scorponok to rescue Arcee and Daniel Witwicky, but were easily captured. Spike Witwicky came to the rescue with Fortress Maximus, and the Autobots were free for all of thirty seconds before they were overwhelmed by the energies from the opened Plasma Energy Chamber. Luckily they had Spike and the Nebulons to close the chamber and bring about a new Golden Age.

Hardhead, Duros and the other Headmasters later returned to Nebulos to begin the work of reclaiming and rebuilding the planet. The Rebirth, Part 3
The Headmasters continued their training, with Hardhead exercising on a treadmill.

A long time ago, on Cybertron, Hardhead was part of an Autobot strike unit led by Fortress Maximus. This unit operated out of a cave dug into the Manganese Mountains, and often worked to foil the schemes of their primary nemesis, Scorponok. Their last major mission on Cybertron was to upset a slave march to the smelting pools. After that, however, Fortress Maximus revealed to the Autobots that he had grown sick of warfare, and planned to escape the endless ring of hate by immigrating to a new world altogether: Nebulos. Initially, Hardhead was outraged and accused Maximus of cowardice for even conceiving of leaving the war before it was finished, but he was quickly chastized when Highbrow reminded him of how valiantly their leader had fought on the battlefield that day, and every day prior for countless vorns. With some convincing, Hardhead and many others chose to join Fortress Maximus on his quest for peace. Peace is rarely an Autobot's lot, though, as an innocent mishap combined with some xenophobia among a few of the Nebulan rulers to bring war to the Autobot camp's doorstep. Hardened warriors like Hardhead and Kup immediately fell into old habits and started fighting back, but Fortress Maximus abruptly ended their gunplay and ordered an all-out retreat.

Despite these setbacks, Fortress Maximus was determined to wage peace, not war. He brought an envoy of Autobots, including Hardhead, to the Nebulan capitol of Koraja to once again plead for peace. When the Nebulans still were not totally swayed after he and his Autobots disarmed, Maximus removed his own head from his shoulders, leaving his body deactivated and inoperable in the Nebulans' care. Hardhead and three other Autobots joined their leader in his gesture. It was this gesture which finally ushered in a cease fire with the Nebulans. Ring of Hate!

Fortress Maximus, Hardhead and the others had their separate heads and bodies detained inside a bunker outside Koraja, as so-called "prisoners of peace", while the Nebulan leaders conversed with them and also the remaining Autobots (under Kup's supervision) in the Folassian Forest beyond the city. Maximus had successfully convinced Galen, head of the World Watchers, of his good intentions, but the paranoid Lord Zarak distrusted the Autobots at every turn, and was committed to removing them from Nebulos even if he had to fake their crimes in order to do it. He even went so far as to summon the Decepticons to Nebulos, hoping that they would rid the planet of their Autobot problem. (So he's not that bright. Give him a break, he's in politics!)

The Decepticon arrival was everything you would expect, as Scorponok and his henchmen began to lay siege to Koraja, trying to get at the inoperative Fortress Maximus and his men. Galen and Council Guard Commander Duros arrived at the Autobots' bunker to rapidly consult them on options. Several potential strategies were discarded in short order, and the allies finally settled on a radical solution involving bio-mechanical engineering — Galen and several other volunteers were bionically reconstructed to transform into duplicates of the Autobots' severed heads, allowing them to binary bond with the Autobots' bodies and share both physical control and tactical analysis with the original Autobot personalities. Duros was one of the first volunteers for the Headmaster process, and was binary bonded to Hardhead. Duros quickly adjusted to the raw power and military might of his new body, using Hardhead's laser-guided cannon against the Decepticon aggressors. Broken Glass!

Their status as the saviors of Koraja made Duros and the others an instant hit among the populace, but Nebulos's rulers were still wary of the Transformers, especially now that their presence had led Nebulans themselves to wage war for the first time in over 10,000 years. Galen and his men did their best to assuage the fears of the Council of Peers. When the Horrorcons and Terrorcons attacked the Splendora resort, Hardhead and Brainstorm joined their Autobot comrades, the Technobots, in fending off Abominus and zapping Apeface and Snapdragon into submission. The devastation left in the wake of their battle did little to discourage the Council's antipathy, however. When the Autobot Headmasters went on a rescue mission to recover Lord Zarak and his followers (who had been prisoners of the Decepticons since their arrival), a detachment of Council members insisted on accompanying them. Unfortunately, Zarak had entered into a bargain with Scorponok, and by the time Hardhead and the others reached the Plains of Thok, the Decepticon Headmasters had been born. Although Zarak / Scorponok endangered the council members by using them as a diversion to gun down the Autobots, Mindwipe's hypnotic gaze had scrambled the other Nebulans' minds so much that Zarak was able to convince them that Galen's men were the evil ones, and he manipulated the Decepticons into becoming Nebulos's new "champions". Love and Steel!

Duros and the other Nebulan Headmasters were held captive by Zarak in Koraja, alongside their disabled Autobot counterparts. Despite his hunger for power and growing battle-lust, however, Zarak still ultimately wanted what was best for Nebulos. Realizing how a continued war between the Autobots and Decepticons would truly affect the planet he loved, Zarak freed Duros and the Autobot Headmasters, sending them back to their comrades in the forest. Galen had reached the same conclusions as Zarak, and gathered his men back aboard the Autobot ship Steelhaven, to leave Nebulos behind to rebuild in their absence. Sure enough, Zarak / Scorponok and the Decepticons chose to follow the Autobots into space. Brothers in Armor!!

Before they left, however, the Autobot Headmasters had another encounter with their Decepticon opposite numbers. After the Targetmasters were captured by the Decepticons for analysis and dissection, Hardhead and the Headmasters went out looking for them, only to run into the Decepticon Headmasters on the way. Hardhead was nearly knocked off the road when Mindwipe's hypnotic stare sent Brainstorm crashing into him. Despite being shaken by the impact, Hardhead still managed to defeat both Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher by himself. The Autobots regrouped to follow Mindwipe, the last of their attackers, who was apparently fleeing for safety. After entering the Decepticons' Fortress of Despair, however, Hardhead and the others realized they had been led into a trap, and were confronted by the might Scorponok and the Decepticon Targetmasters. In order to help even the odds, Hardhead freed the Autobot Targetmasters who were being held prisoner. With their help, the Autobots eventually overcame the Decepticons and fled back to base. Worlds Apart!

After leaving Nebulos, Hardhead and the crew of Steelhaven followed an Autobot distress call to the planet called Earth. During the long journey, they had Fortress Maximus heavily upgraded into a larger, more powerful body. Even the militaristic Duros was a bit unsettled by the new war-like outlook of their leader, Galen, but he insisted he was merely changing to fit the circumstances they had been dealt. Upon arrival, Fortress Maximus, Hardhead and the other Headmasters took a shuttle down to Earth's surface, and located the caves in Mount St. Hilary where the distress call had first been broadcast. They also found the broadcaster himself, an Autobot named Goldbug whose brain module had been retrofitted into a tiny electronic toy car. Long story. Scorponok and the Decepticon Headmasters had also come to Earth after the distress call, however, and a battle broke out. The battle proved costly, as Galen died protecting an Earthling from Scorponok. He passed on his control helmet to this boy, Spike Witwicky, leaving Fortress Maximus and the Autobots in his hands. It was Hardhead who first suggested that Spike was the group's new leader. Trial by Fire!
In the weeks that followed, Steelhaven's crew united with the other Autobots on board the Ark. Hardhead was next seen on Cybertron for the final united battle against Unicron. He bravely (if futilely) attacked Sixshot, along with the rest of the Autobots before being beamed back to the Ark-32. Devastation issue 4 Due to injuries and separate missions, Hardhead found himself to be the only active Autobot besides Prowl—and neither were happy to hear that Optimus was withdrawing them from Earth to Garrus-9. Devastation issue 5 Hardhead went to retrieve Hot Rod and the others, blowing up a Headmaster that was attacking Hot Rod. Hot Rod refused to go though, wanting to see the Headmaster mystery to the end. Hardhead reluctantly let him go and took Wheeljack and Ironhide back with him. Devastation issue 6

Soon, Nightbeat discovered that he logged a message during his visit to Gorlam Prime—of which he had no recollection—and asked Hardhead for help. Spotlight: Cyclonus

Before leaving for Gorlam Prime, Nightbeat told Hardhead of his fears that he may be compromised, and that if he threatened Hardhead or anyone else, he should terminate Nightbeat. Arriving on Gorlam Prime, Nightbeat and Hardhead discovered virtually the entire planet's population had frozen in a chrysalis-like state and were in the midst of undergoing some kind of evolutionary cycle. Before they could explore further, however, they were beset upon by dozens of Micromasters, all of whom immediately targeted Hardhead.

Escaping from their attackers, the two Autobots fled deep underground. Once they neared the portal to the Dead Universe, Jhiaxus took remote-control of Nightbeat and tried to kill Hardhead with a point-blank shot between the optics. Fortunately, Hardhead lived up to his name and took the shot with minimal damage. As Nightbeat was joined by more Micromasters, Hardhead took the opportunity to retreat deeper into Gorlam Prime's underground caverns.

There, he discovered the portal to the Dead Universe. As the mind-controlled Nightbeat caught up with him, Hardhead realized he had nowhere else to fall back to. When told to surrender, Hardhead responded by shooting Nightbeat through the head with a pinpoint shot and then plunged through the portal, ready to face whatever dangers lay on the other side. Spotlight: Hardhead

Having become a permanent resident of the Dead Universe, Hardhead did not resurface until Jhiaxus's plans were well underway. However, he did manage to catch the Cybertronian scientist who was fleeing the onslaught of Arcee. Preventing the madman's escape, he explained to the hyperviolent Autobot that Jhiaxus couldn't truly die here on the threshold between the material world and the Dead Universe. That suited Arcee fine, as it let her indulge her revenge fantasies to their utmost. Spotlight: Sideswipe

Hardhead remained at Arcee's side as she happily killed Jhiaxus over and over again, though he was more interested in investigating some ancient catacombs discovered in the depths of Gorlam Prime. After some time had passed, the portal to the Dead Universe began to act strangely, luring the inhabitants of the planet into wandering through it. Seemingly due to his connection to the Dead Universe, Hardhead was immune to this apparent hypnosis, and he pinned Arcee down to keep her from following the others. Once the entire population of Gorlam Prime was gone, the portal emitted a flash of light and changed shape, knocking Hardhead and Arcee out cold. After they awoke, they left to investigate the catacombs and figure out what happened. Heart of Darkness issue 2 Eventually, they detected Galvatron and his troops entering the portal's chamber and attacked them. Heart of Darkness issue 1

Hardhead took on Cyclonus and Scourge, defeating both of them, but was brought down by Galvatron, who was drawing on power from the Dead Universe. He urged Arcee to flee and warn the Autobots, and was then captured by Galvatron, who invaded his mind and read his memories. Heart of Darkness issue 2

Having presumably fallen under Galvatron's control, Hardhead joined the army he was building to defend the universe from D-Void from the Dead Universe. He accompanied Galvatron, Cyclonus, and a generic or two to the planet Dykayra to scout out a sight of an incursion of D-Void. Heart of Darkness issue 3 There, he and the others fought with Nemesis Prime, resurrected and controlled by D-Void. Hardhead survived the battle and was later air-dropped onto Cybertron, the army's first line of defense. Heart of Darkness issue 4

Hardhead was somehow freed from Galvatron's influence and reunited with Arcee. Thanks to Galvatron tapping into his mind with the Heart of Darkness, Hardhead had a solid understanding of the connection between it, the D-Void, and Galvatron himself. Aboard Arcee's shuttle in Cybertron's orbit, they addressed the survivors of the destroyed Kimia Facility, expounding on Cybertron's current predicament. Some, like Brainstorm and Chromedome, had trouble grasping the complicated scenario, but Hardhead finally broke through to Swerve. The group of Autobots set upon the task of preventing Galvatron from unknowingly doing the D-Void's bidding and turning Cybertron into a massive portal for the Dead Universe to bleed through.

Bringing their shuttle into Cybertron's crumbling atmosphere, everyone but Hardhead and Arcee bailed out when it was decided to fly under the planet's surface. Following a large access tunnel directly to Vector Sigma and the core, Hardhead crashed the shuttle directly on top of Galvatron. Galvatron dug himself out from under the debris and took both Hardhead and Arcee on, quickly defeating them. Chaos Part Four: Genesis

Syndromica (1)
After the Chaos war ended and Galvatron was defeated, Hardhead, Wheelie, and Garnak took custody of the catatonic Jhiaxus and left Cybertron to keep it safe from his brand of evil. After a while, their ship picked up a distress signal from the planet Arduria, which caused Jhiaxus to awaken and begin screaming Orion Pax's name. In response, Hardhead called Orion—the name Optimus Prime had reverted to using upon abdicating Autobot leadership after the Chaos event—and together, they investigated Arduria, only to fall victim to a Decepticon trap. Attacked by Monstructor, Hardhead and Orion were unable to prevent Jhiaxus from begin rescued by Bludgeon, but upon deducing that the Decepticons were hunting down the fruits of Shockwave's Regenesis program, they pursued them to the Lenocinium Velnero System. Syndromica (1)
:Hardhead transforms into a Cybertronian self-propelled artillery gun. Like many Transformers of this era, he can store his rifles in 5mm peg holes in his vehicle mode, and his Headmaster partner, Duros, can ride inside his cockpit. Duros transforms into his head, which, when attached to Hardhead's robot mode, activates a simplified, spring-loaded Tech Spec meter hidden under a panel on his chest. This gimmick works with any other Headmaster "pilot" figure.

:In robot mode, Hardhead is unusually tall for a toy of his price point, as the tank basically flips on end and extends to transform. As to be expected, Hardhead has rather limited articulation.
When the button on his rotating turret is pressed, electronic lights in his head and turret flash and one hears either machine gun fire or a siren sound, either of which are continuous if held down. Rolling the vehicle's middle left tire activates a third sound effect of him causing extensive property damage on something unfortunate enough to get caught under his wheels. A looped driving sound will then be continuously played until the tire stops rolling, when a final sound of the vehicle driving away/to a halt is played. He comes with a riot shield, which can either connect to a flip up tab on his left arm in robot mode, or store on top of his turret in either mode. The small flap at the top of the shield is used to access the turret's button, either by pressing on the flap itself, or by flipping it open and pressing the button directly. A button on his right arm spring-deploys an arm-mounted weapon. Instead of blending in with the rest of his colors, his shield stands out entirely black with a messily painted "no" sign on top of a similarly made Decepticon symbol with seven tally marks below it.
* In the television commercial for Marvel Comics' Headmasters limited series, the Autobot and Decepticon Headmasters are shown having different head designs than the ones their Nebulan partners would later turn into. These designs were seemingly never used in any other piece of Transformers media. The models for most of them, however, turned up in the excellent Transformers Generations guidebook.
* The instructions for Generations Warpath show him with an alternate head sculpt resembling Hardhead. Unlike various other Generations toys, however, the alternate head only shows up in some steps in the instructions, whereas most steps simply depict Warpath's actual head. There are currently no known specific plans to release a Hardhead retool of Warpath.
