{{factions|autobot}}
:''Grand Maximus is an [[Autobot]] [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]] [[Pretender]] [[City-bot]] from the [[Generation 1 continuity family]].''

[[Image:Grandmax cartoon.jpg|right|350px|thumb|I am my sister city's brother and so is he.]]
'''Grand Maximus''' (グランドマキシマス ''Gurando Makshimasu'') is the younger [[Relatives|brother]] of [[Autobot]] [[Supreme Commander]] [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]. He was among the Autobot refugees who fled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] four million years ago under the leadership of his brother, and like his sibling, became a [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]] when they crash-landed on the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]]. Grand Maximus's mental functions are contained in his smallest component, '''Gran''', who connects to a larger [[Transtector]] named '''Grand''' to boost his strength to normal Transformer levels. Just like his bro, he pilots a ''Maximus'' battleship, which serves as a second transtector with which Grand combines to form "Grand Maximus". (Though they seem virtually identical in all other respects, Grand Maximus is significantly smaller than his titanic elder brother. Only a bit taller than [[God Ginrai]] in robot mode and with room for just a couple of human-sized rooms at most in his starship form.)

Grand seems to be a bit of a loner, who prefers the solitude of outer space to being tied down to any one planet or team. After becoming a Headmaster, he opted not to remain on Master with the other Transformers, joining up with a group of Autobots under the command of [[Metalhawk]] and travelling space with them. Alongside Metalhawk's crew, Grand crash-landed on Neolithic [[Earth]] and adopted [[Pretender]] capabilities, endowing himself with the ability to transform into a human form.<ref>"[[Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!]]"</ref> After centuries of working with Metalhawk to battle a group of Decepticons on Earth and guide the evolution of the burgeoning humanity, however, Grand again felt the lure of outer space, and now operates among the space-based Autobot forces battling the Decepticons across [[Athenia]] and [[Chaar]].

[[Image:Grand pretender.jpg|left|180px|thumb|Behold! With my pretender shell, I can disguise myself as... a robot. Wait, why did I bother again?]]
In the early 21st Century, when the space-based Autobot forces under the command of Fortress Maximus discovered that [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]] was headed for Earth, Grand Maximus was dispatched to alert Metalhawk's Autobots, still on the planet. Entering Earth's atmosphere with his battleship cloaked from sight, Grand met with Metalhawk, [[Lander]] and [[Diver (Masterforce)|Diver]] atop a mountain, where he supplied them with the plans and materials to construct "[[Godbomber]]". This drone would endow the Autobots' mightiest warrior, [[Ginrai]], with the ability to fly and fight in space, thereby allowing him to stop BlackZarak before he reached Earth. {{storylink|Life? Death? The Desperate Lightfoot}} Grand Maximus subsequently headed back into space to keep an eye on the situation, and as the "Bomber Project" was nearing completion, Grand radioed the Autobots on Earth to inform them that BlackZarak was headed for the [[Moon (moon)|moon]]. {{storylink|God Ginrai - Into the Sky!!}} With the construction of Godbomber complete, Ginrai wasted no time in heading for the moon and engaging BlackZarak and [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]] in battle. Ginrai did not fare well, but soon Grand Maximus arrived to join the fight, and with their combined might, the Autobot duo was able to defeat the two Decepticons. BlackZarak fled back into space, and Grand Maximus gave chase, assuring Ginrai that he could take care of things. {{storylink|God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon}}

[[Image:Grandmax shipmode.jpg|right|220px|thumb|New Battleship Maximus - no really, that's what it's called]]
In the weeks that followed, BlackZarak mastered the art of localized gravity manipulation, enabling him to create powerful black holes that he could use to teleport himself around the galaxy. While pursuing his foe, Grand Maximus was trapped within one of these black holes, exerting all his energy just to hold steady against its pull and prevent himself from being drawn into the heart of the singularity and obliterated. Down on Earth, meanwhile, the Decepticon had succeeded in destroying the Autobots' base, prompting Ginrai to contact Grand in hopes that his battleship could be employed as a new headquarters. When Grand, trapped in the black hole, did not respond to his communiqué, Ginrai headed into space to investigate, only to be pulled into the black hole as well and wind up trapped alongside Grand. Luckily, the pair were able to draw on the electromagnetic waves of the black hole to re-energize themselves, and they then combined their energy into a massive blast of [[Chōkon Power]] that destroyed the black hole from the inside out. Freed, the pair immediately headed to Earth, where BlackZarak had already joined up with the Decepticons and cut a swathe of destruction across the planet. Merging their energies once more, Grand and Ginrai were able to defeat Overlord and BlackZarak again, and the villains pulled out of the fight. {{storylink|BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space}}

[[Image:Grand cartoon.jpg|left|142px|thumb|Blink and you'll miss him.]]
While the Autobots were searching Earth for the Decepticons, Grand Maximus detected the villains heading into space, and transported the Autobots in pursuit of them aboard his battleship. The Autobots discovered that the Decepticons were preparing to unleash the deadly [[Death Para-Machine]] against Earth, but thankfully, Ginrai was able to destroy the evil device before irreparable damage was done to the planet's atmosphere. As it exploded, however, a single blast escaped the Death-Para Machine and struck Grand's battleship, knocking its tachyon converter offline and sending it plummeting down to Earth. [[Shūta Gō|Shūta]] risked his life to save the day by donning one of the ship's jetpacks and repairing the converter, rescuing the ship at the last moment. {{storylink|Crisis! Grand Maximus later battled BlackZarak in [[Moscow]], {{storylink|God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base}}
and then transported the Autobots aboard his battleship for a full-scale assault on the Decepticon base, during which BlackZarak and the Decepticon ruler [[Devil Z]] fused into one being. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!! BlackZarak, the New Lifeform}} The merged BlackZarak/Devil Z entity soon began bombarding North America with his [[Devil Power]], which Grand Maximus traced to the [[Grand Canyon]]. {{storylink|Battle to the Death!! The Decepticons retreated before the battle could go any further {{storylink|Autobots! The True Form of Devil Z}} As Ginrai clashed with BlackZarak, Grand lent his aid by opening fire on the villain, but was blasted out of the sky when he was distracted by the sight of Overlord's Transtector being brought to life by Devil Z's power. As the now-living Overlord attempted to join BlackZarak's battle with Ginrai, Grand Maximus transformed to robot mode and kept
him occupied while Ginrai used his Final Fire Guts attack to finally destroy both BlackZarak and Devil Z. With the death of the villain, all the Autobots' Transtectors were also brought to life, and Grand Maximus soon transported them back into space to rejoin their respective factions. {{storylink|A Battle... and Then...}}
After the Earth and space-based Autobot forces consolidated their power to battle the Decepticons on both fronts, Grand Maximus joined with [[Raiden]], [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]], [[Brainstorm]], [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] and [[Highbrow (G1)|Highbrow]] in pursuing Decepticon commander BlackZarak to Earth.
When Decepticons kidnapped Shūta and Cab, Grand Maximus was occupied battling BlackZarak and [[Darkwings]] in space with the Autobot [[Godmaster]]s, but was able to make it to Earth to help Ginrai battle Overlord during the rescue mission. Grand didn't beat around the bush, crashing his battleship straight into Overlord's face, and then giving Ginrai his Master Blade, with which he sent the villain fleeing. {{storylink|The Earth Family of Good and Evil}}

[[Image:MFpretendershell bigmode.jpg|right|220px|thumb|Make my monster grow!]]
Grand Maximus and the Autobots were required to depart Earth aboard Grand's battleship when the space-based Autobot forces developed a new weapon known as the [[VX Bomb]], and the Decepticons initiated a major attack in their absence. Grand Maximus sped back to Earth with the VX Bomb on board, and he and the Godmasters occupied BlackZarak while Ginrai used the weapon to defeat Overlord. {{storylink|Live? Die?! The Desperate Super-God Combination}}

During a Decepticon attack on a city, Grand Maximus transported the Autobots into battle, but then surprised everyone when he took an
unexpected, unconventional hand in the fight by transforming into his human form ''without'' shrinking down. After defeating Overlord and BlackZarak with a "Big Mode Pretender Shell Power Kick", Grand explained to the surprised Ginrai that, in ancient times, the
Pretenders did not shrink when they adopted their human forms, remaining gigantic and inspiring legends of giants among early man. Back then, Grand opined, mankind learned from the Transformers, but now, Transformers and mankind were truly equals. {{storylink|Great Turn-Around! Autobots}}

[[Image:Grand and gran.jpg|left|180px|thumb|My mini-me ''is'' me.]]
During Ginrai's final battle with the Decepticons, the villains' evil ruler Devil Z turned upon his minions, seeking to drain their
Jinchōkon in order to become the ultimate lifeform. The Autobot Pretenders arrived in time to save them, with Grand Maximus and the whole Autobot force in tow. The Decepticons joined with the Autobots against Devil Z, and both armies boarded Grand Maximus, combining their energies in the "Perfect Transform Attack". Charged with the energies of all the Transformers, Grand Maximus collided with Devil Z, destroying the evil alien once and for all. With Devil Z's death, all the Autobots' Transtectors came to life as true super-robot lifeforms, and Grand led them all off Earth to rejoin the Autobots and Decepticons in space. {{storylink|The Birth of the Super Lifeforms}}

: As a [[Redeco|redeco]] of Fortress Maximus, Grand Maximus shares the title of largest Transformer toy ever at two feet tall. Grand Maximus transforms from robot to city to battleship, with a wide array of pop-out (non-firing) guns and gimmicks available in all modes. His left leg hides a small prison cell, plus has a swing-out cannon/helipad. His right leg has a small "medical bay" storage compartment. His torso has a gear-activated spinner for the detachable radar array accessory, a "control socket" for Grand's "communications tower" mode, and a working elevator that can lift small toys up to the central ramp to be launched in his altmodes. (The crank for this elevator ends up in a very unfortunate position in robot mode.) Each arm had a long ramp on the back with sliding launchers for small vehicles.

: Grand Maximus' head can be removed and transformed into a robot called Grand. This component also transforms into a communications room that combines with Grand Maximus' city and battleship modes. Grand can additionally fit inside an included pretender shell. This shell, unlike most other Autobot shells, was robotic in appearance rather than human, although ''Masterforce'' fiction gave the figure a human face behind a robotic visor to better fit in with the other Pretenders in the series. Grand's head can also be removed and transformed into a smaller robot, known as Gran.

: Two smaller vehicles, Onomisu and Koka, fit into the toe areas of the Brave Maximus robot. They can combine into the robot [[Cog (Masterforce)|Cog]]. Also included were a gun for Cog, a "Heat Blaster" gun and "Master Blade" sword for Grand, which could be held in either robot or Pretender mode, and two larger guns—the "Proton Master Rifle" and "Dual Laster Cannon"—and the huge "Grand Sword" for Grand Maximus.

: This mold was used to make ''[[Robots in Disguise (toyline)|Car Robots]]'' [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Brave Maximus]] and his ''[[Robot Masters (franchise)|Robot Masters]]'' release as "[[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Cybertron Base]]".
:''Transform Jr'' Grand Maximus is a [[redeco]] of ''Transform Jr'' Fortress Maximus, and a heavily simplified version of the larger mold. And we ''mean'' simplified – he only transforms to battleship mode, which involves little more than pulling the head off and laying the figure down. The head does transform into Grand, at least, although overall, the toy doesn't really ''look'' like Grand Maximus, decorated as it is solely in whites and red, without a hint of teal in sight. Grand Maximus is arguably the rarest and most sought after Transform Jr toy.
*'''Grand Maximus''' (2002)
:Grand Maximus was the "Build-A-Figure" from the sixth wave of [[TakaraTomy|Takara]]'s ''[[Super Collection Figure]]'' line of [[Plastic|PVC]] figurines. Naturally enough, he was a redeco of the previous year's Fortress Maximus Build-A-Figure, sans the Master Sword.

:Grand was divided into six parts, each one packaged with one of the metallic silver "pewter" versions of the six individual figures in the line (the regular color versions of the figures did not come with any of Grand's parts). His head was included with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], his body with [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], his left arm with [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]], his right arm with [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], his left leg with [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] and his right leg with [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundblaster]]. Each of the parts was available in standard full-color (at a rate of 8 out of every 10 cases), and rare "pewter" (only 2 out of every 10 cases) versons, making two variations of Grand Maximus to assemble.

==Notes==

*Though he never uses his Pretender abilities to take on his human mode in any media (echoing his toy's unique lack of a removable helmet) several extreme close ups on his face in the ''Masterforce'' cartoon seem to confirm that he does have one, showing a definite organic human face beneath/within the Pretender helmet.

*Outside commercial bumpers he only appears in full robot mode in [[God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon]] and [[A Battle... and Then...]]
==Synopsis==
[[Image:MF42 Ginrai BlackZarak struggle in sky.jpg|thumb|left|200px|Have you hugged your scorpion today?]]
At the peak of the Matterhorn, [[Ginrai]] and the fused [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]]/[[Devil Z]] entity prepare to face off against each other in their final battle. BlackZarak inquires if the [[Autobot]] leader plans to fight him alone, and Ginrai responds with a barrage of laser fire, which BlackZarak shrugs off. The villain transforms to scorpion mode and takes to the air, but Ginrai pursues him and seizes him by the tail. BlackZarak roars that he does not have time to waste on Ginrai, freely divulging his plan—he has placed an amplifier for his Devil Power at the South Pole, which will allow him to eliminate Humanity in the blink of an eye. The furious Ginrai attempts to drag BlackZarak back down to the mountain's peak, and he calls out for [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]] and the [[Darkwings]] brothers to aid him. Help is not forthcoming, but Ginrai still manages to rip off BlackZarak's cannons and tricks the villain into blasting himself with his own tail weapon. Damaged, BlackZarak begins to lose altitude, and Ginrai uses his own jets to steer the [[Decepticon]] into the mountainside. At the last second, however, BlackZarak throws off Ginrai and collapses part of the mountain, burying Ginrai in an avalanche.

Elsewhere on the mountain, the other Autobots and Decepticons are recovering from their injuries. While [[Minerva]] tends to the wounds [[Metalhawk]] received during his battle with [[King Poseidon]] in one location, in another spot, [[Hydra (Masterforce)|Hydra]] and [[Buster (Masterforce)|Buster]] finally recover consciousness after the beating administered to them by BlackZarak. While Buster is still trying to wrap his mind around what happened, Hydra simply writes it off as punishment for weakness and proof that they must fight even harder. The chance for such a fight immediately arrives in the form of the Autobot [[Godmaster|Godmasters]], and even though the two weakened Decepticons practically collapse after only a few shots are exchanged, they continue to draw out the fight. Lightfoot questions his tactics, however the Godmaster brothers still fight.

Some miles away, [[Clouder]] has supplied [[Cancer]], [[Wilder]] and [[Bullhorn]] with a heavily armed buggy so that they can participate in the battle on the Matterhorn. As the quartet head towards the Alps, Wilder chooses to remind everyone that he has definitely not joined the Autobots, but the protest has grown so stale that Cancer laughs it off, much to Wilder's annoyance. Wilder then tells them to hold on and they floor it around the mountain.

[[Image:MF42 Ginrai BlackZarak uppercut.jpg|thumb|right|200px|SHORYUKEN!]]
Back on the Matterhorn, BlackZarak is in mid-gloat when Ginrai comes bursting out of the ice and snow and stomps his opponent into the rock face. BlackZarak transforms back into robot mode and unleashes the "Devil Thunder Ring," encircling Ginrai with Devil Power with the intent of removing his humanity and transforming him into a true robot, just as he did with Hydra and Buster. As Ginrai fights the effect. At the bottom of the mountian Grand Maximus, Shuta and Cab prepare to launch to assist Ginrai. Metalhawk volunteers to go to but Grand and Minerva convince him to stay behind because of his injuries. BlackZarak still using his Devil Thunder Ring tries to destroy Ginrai's humanity but Grand and the [[Headmaster Junior|Headmaster Juniors]] arrive. They help by firing Maximus's cannon which throws off BlackZarak's focus long enough for Ginrai to escape his Devil Power and take the fight up close. With a mighty swing and a flare of incandescent energy, Ginrai punches BlackZarak's head clean off his shoulders, and the decapitated Decepticon crashes into the mountain. [[Shūta Gō|Shūta]] cheers for his commander as BlackZarak's severed head lands alongside his body and explodes, but Grand silences him... because something is happening! BlackZarak's twitching, headless body rises up out of its crater, and as the shocked Autobots watch, it begins to transform into a new form!

At the base of the mountain, [[Mega]] and [[Giga]] stand by their [[Transtector|Transtectors]] and debate on what to do next. Realizing that they have been misled by [[Devil Z]], who has placed his hatred of human beings above even their comradeship, they know they can no longer serve him...and they now also owe Ginrai a debt of honor for saving them from Z's wrath. They are not the only Decepticons to reach a decision at this point, either—Hydra and Buster have reached the end of their strength and combine into Darkwings to flee their battle with the Autobot Godmasters.

[[Image:MF42 Ginrai vs BlackZarak's heads.jpg|thumb|left|200px]]
Meanwhile, far above, BlackZarak's new form now stands revealed: a twisted, two-headed serpent, which launches energy blasts at God Ginrai from its mouths and swats him out of the sky with its tail. As the battle rages, Overlord appears overhead, and BlackZarak offers him a chance to redeem himself, but the Ambassador of Destruction opens fire on BlackZarak instead. Infuriated, BlackZarak vows to show Overlord what happens to traitors and envelops him in a beam of Devil Power. Crying in pain, Overlord's last act is to tell Ginrai to ensure that BlackZarak does not live, before Giga and Mega are suddenly ejected from the sphere of Devil Power. Shocked at what they are seeing, Ginrai and Grand Maximus are distracted enough to be blasted out of the sky by BlackZarak, just as the cocoon of Devil Power recedes and the Overlord Transtector emerges...now a truly living super-robot lifeform itself, brought to life by the power of Devil Z! Giga murmurs that he wishes they could have settled their rivalry with Ginrai honourably, and with that, he and Mega die and their [[Master-Brace|Master-Braces]] vanish from their wrists. Burning with righteous anger and [[Chōkon Power]], Ginrai rises, and Shūta, [[Cab]] and Minerva all feel the energy of their commander. In a flash of light, the three children find themselves in God Ginrai's chest cockpit, ready to fight alongside their leader as the defining moment of the battle draws nearer. Overlord lunges for Ginrai, but Grand Maximus transforms to robot mode and tackles him. BlackZarak orders Wilder, Cancer and Bullhorn's now-living [[Transtector|Transtectors]] to attack Ginrai instead, but the Godmasters arrive just in time to handle them, leaving Ginrai to face off against BlackZarak. God Fire Guts and Devil Power collide in a mighty explosion, hurling Ginrai back and leaving Devil Z simply laughing from within BlackZarak's body. He announces to Ginrai that the Autobot's very existence—the existence of all the Godmasters—is as a result of his machinations, and to him, they are nothing more than tools that will never be able to defeat their maker. Ginrai refutes this, declaring that Devil Z has long underestimated the strength of humans and the limitless possibilities that exist within Mankind, and that is why he shall never defeat them. Exploding into flame once more, Ginrai activates the God Fire Guts and dives at BlackZarak, driving hard against a beam of Devil Power. Fighting with all his strength, Ginrai overpowers the beam and crashes into and through BlackZarak, whose body finally explodes into fragments, exposing the glowing orb of Devil Z. As the villain rages impotently, Ginrai and the Headmaster Juniors unite every drop of their Chōkon Power for one last, mighty attack: the FINAL FIRE GUTS! Burning with the passion and strength of his fellow humans and Autobots, Ginrai dives like a flaming spear into the heart of Devil Z, who screams and explodes in a coruscating wave of light and darkness.

[[Image:MF42 humans and transtectors.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Well, you're ordinary humans now. Enjoy not being super-powered robots!]]
As the blast dies out, the skies clear and Ginrai fades back into view, and the Decepticons battling below stop and gape, unable to comprehend what has occurred. Overlord is the first to take action...and that action is retreat. With their leader lost, the Decepticons immediately take to the air and head for space. Ginrai comes floating down out of the sky and lands in front his troops, but the surprises are not yet through, as all of the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors suddenly glow with blinding light. When the light fades, seven ordinary human beings are left standing on the snowy ground, and Minerva is the first to realize that their Master-Braces have vanished. It is [[Road King]] who then makes the next discovery: A short distance away, their Transtectors are standing in robot mode! Ginrai's Transtector looks down at the humans assembled before it, and thanks them for all they have done. It is then that Ginrai realizes what has happened—with Devil Z's death, the link that he created between the humans and their Transtectors has been broken. But now, their Transtectors live on, having become true super-robot lifeforms themselves, and it is their duty to pursue the fleeing Decepticons back into space. As goodbyes are said, Cancer and company roll up the mountain in their buggy, all weapons firing, just a little bit too late to do any good. As everyone watches and waves, the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors board Grand Maximus and blast off for space. As the narrator says, Ginrai's long battle with the Decepticons is over at last, but throughout it all, he has been supported by his friends, his fellow humans, and the beauty and peace of planet Earth.

==Notes==
===Lost in translation===
Among the changes made by the [[Omni Productions]] dub:
*The Matterhorn is described by the narrator as the Decepticons' control center.
*Devil Z calls his amplifier an "exterminator".
*Hawk doesn't bring up summoning the other Pretenders at all, leaving their absence a mystery.
*Clouder describes the Matterhorn as a "hill".
*God Ginrai's line in defiance of BlackZarak's threat to turn him into a robot is gone.
*Overlord's last line as he's being zapped by Devil Z is gone.
*God Ginrai's lecture to Devil Z about not killing his own men is changed to general "I will kill you!" banter.
*The determined growling during the shot of Ginrai and the Headmaster Juniors is replaced by Cab's voice actor whimpering loudly.
*Overlord's line right after Devil Z's death becomes "It's finally been destroyed!", which seems more positive than the original script intended.
*"WE BELIEVE TOMORROW" is missing from the soundtrack, with no music to replace it. The last notes of it fade in just before the credits.

===Animation or technical errors===
*In the first shot after the title card, BlackZarak is absolutely ''towering'' over God Ginrai. In the past, he's not been much more than a head taller than him.

===Continuity errors===
*Having not appeared in the previous episode, and having been absent for two-thirds of this one, Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn's Transtectors are suddenly among the Decepticon ranks in the third act. The Doubleclouder Transtector is still missing, however, and is not seen among the Decepticons flying into space at the episode's close.
*This episode explains that Devil Z was responsible for forging the link between the Godmasters and their Transtectors. This makes sense; the Godmasters' Transtectors were not originally intended to be bonded with humans, so it had to be someone else's doing, and the fact that the death of Devil Z in this episode causes this link to be severed makes it clear that he's not lying about it. However, Shūta, Minerva and Cab are ''also'' separated from their Transtectors, and this ''doesn't'' make sense, because Devil Z had no hand in their combination.
*Grand Maximus carries the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors into space at the end of this episode, which is inconsistent with how he has been presented in the rest of the series. Whereas his big brother, [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]], was large enough to transport Transformers around, Grand's battleship has been consistently depicted as being scaled for transporting ''humans'' around (consequently, he only transforms into a robot as tall as God Ginrai, instead of a towering giant like his sibling). But here, he is boarded by Transformers. [[Size changing|Oops]].

===Continuity notes===
*BlackZarak has been decapitated before, back in "[[God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon]]".
*Cancer, Wilder and Bullhorn (and Clouder) had their Transtectors brought to life in "[[Autobots! Desperate Attack!!]]".

===Trivia===
*The insert songs "[[Susume! Chōjin Masterforce]]" and "[[We Believe Tomorrow|WE BELIEVE TOMORROW]]" are reprised for this episode, the former in instrumental form.
*BlackZarak's serpent mode, like [[Sixshot]]'s "Wingwolf" mode and Overlord's "space jet" mode before it, was created by the production staff of the animated series by tinkering around with the toy. (Specifically, they beheaded the scorpion mode, turned it belly-forward, and used the claws for twin dragon heads.) In comparison to those other two characters, though, this mode was streamlined to a greater degree for animation (such as completely omitting the scorpion legs), so the actual toy doesn't look nearly as good if transformed to match it.
*Metalhawk (and presumably the other Autobot Pretenders too) remains behind on Earth. Presumably, that's because someone still needs to hunt down the Decepticon Pretenders and the [[Seacon (Masterforce)|Seacons]], who last appeared (chronologically speaking) in the previous episode, and whose fates are left unrevealed.
*While this episode marks the end of the ''Super-God Masterforce'' story, it is not the end of the series. For the video release of the show, five clip episodes were created, and the final one of these, "[[You Too Use the Masterforce to Transform]]", was aired as the forty-third and final episode of the broadcast series.
*Every Autobot Pretender apart from Metalhawk has been missing for 4 episodes. Grand Maximus finally elaborates on where they have been in this episode, telling us they have been tending to disasters around the world.
*This episode features a rare appearance of Grand Maximus in his robot mode.
==Overview==
[[Image:MasterforcePoster1.jpg|right|300px|thumb|Before [[wikipedia:Power Rangers Time Force|Time Force]], [[wikipedia:Power Rangers Wild Force|Wild Force]], and [[wikipedia:Power Rangers Mystic Force|Mystic Force]]...]]
With the conclusion of the first Japanese-exclusive ''Transformers'' [[franchise]], ''[[The Headmasters (cartoon)|The Headmasters]]'', head writer [[Masumi Kaneda]] felt that he had brought the story concepts introduced in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' to a conclusion, and sought to make a "fresh start" with ''Super-God Masterforce''. Whereas ''The Headmasters'' had featured the existing cast of the American animated series, and gradually introduced new characters as it progressed, ''Super-God Masterforce'' was, on the surface, almost entirely divorced from what had gone before, featuring only a cast of entirely new characters in a new scenario. Although links between ''Masterforce'' and the events and characters of ''The Headmasters'' were expanded upon in various other media and articles, the series itself is remarkably self-contained, to the point of frustration, with many important background aspects not fully divulged in the course of the broadcast series.

There is a very human-centric focus in ''Masterforce'', with the basic theme of the series being that "with the Masterforce, you too transform"—that human beings are to be responsible for the defence of their own planet. This resulted in the very ''different'' approach the series takes, which sees the figures released that year by [[Hasbro]] as [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] and [[Powermaster]]s reimagined as "[[Headmaster Junior]]s" and "[[Godmaster]]s"—human beings who connect to lifeless [[Transtector]] bodies and actually ''become'' Transformers themselves. In a similar thematic move, the Autobot Pretenders do not don exterior shells and pass themselves off as "giant humans," as in American fiction, but instead perform an ill-defined holistic transformation that actually alters them at a cellular level, shrinking them down into human forms.

For some inexplicable reason, this was the first Transformers cartoon to be shown in Russia, followed by the other Japanese cartoons (in the wrong order), which left many Russian children very confused as far as continuity goes.

==Storyline==
After the events of ''The Headmasters'', the [[Earth]] has been free of [[Transformer]]s for several years, until the emergence of the [[Decepticon]] [[Pretender]]s. This group of villains were pursued to Earth during the Stone Age by a group of Autobots led by [[Metalhawk]], and when both teams crash-landed on the planet, they used their special "Pretender" powers to adopt new disguises. Metalhawk and his Autobots took on the forms of human beings and began to live among the burgeoning humanity, guiding the evolution of their culture and society, while the Decepticons became monstrous creatures and tormented early man as "demons." Eventually, the Autobot Pretenders defeated the Decepticons and sealed them away, but as the series begins, they have been liberated from their prisons by the evil alien energy-being, [[Devil Z]], to play a role in his schemes.

With the return of the Decepticons, the Autobot Pretenders are forced to drop their disguises and take up arms once again, gaining allies in three young human children ([[Shūta Gō]], [[Cab]] and [[Minerva]]) who are imbued with the power of the "Masterforce" and bond with three Transtectors sent to Earth from the planet [[Master (planet)|Master]] by [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]]. The Decepticons recruit their own Headmasters Juniors as well, and as the battles on Earth progress, the true objective of Devil Z's plan comes to light. The arrival of [[Mega]], [[Giga]], [[Buster]] and [[Hydra (Masterforce)|Hydra]] heralds the quest for the "[[Godmaster]]s"—super-powerful lifeforms that are the perfect fusion of human and Transformer, able to manipulate [[Chōkon Power]]. With these four warriors on the side of the Decepticons, the Autobots must find Godmasters of their own, and succeed when they are joined by a young trucker named [[Ginrai]], who soon recruits three more Autobot Godmasters.

Incensed by this failure, Devil Z ups his plans by summoning [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]] (the newest incarnation of Decepticon leader Scorponok, who is busy leading the Decepticons against the Autobots out in space) to Earth. Discovering his plan, [[Grand Maximus]] races to Earth to inform the Autobots of BlackZarak's approach. Our heroes create [[Godbomber]], a drone that serves as an upgrade for Ginrai, enabling him to transform into "God Ginrai" and fight in space, allowing him to beat BlackZarak back.

The Autobot suffer a grave loss when the final Godmaster, [[Clouder|Doubleclouder]], is discovered and sides with the Decepticons, using his ability to adopt two robot forms to infiltrate the Autobots and destroy their headquarters. Without a base of operations, the Autobots are at a disadvantage when BlackZarak returns and merges with Devil Z to bring about the destruction of Mankind. As characters lose their humanity, change their alliances, and engage in final battles, everything comes down to a climactic duel between God Ginrai and BlackZarak atop the Matterhorn, where the Autobot hero must beat his opponent, or all life on Earth will be forfeit.
'''''Transformers: Super-God Masterforce''''' (トランスフォーマー 超神マスターフォース ''Transformers Chōjin Masterforce'') is a Japanese animated series that ran throughout 1988 into the early months of 1989 for 43 broadcast episodes, in support of the [[Super-God Masterforce (toyline)|toyline]] of the same name. "[[Chōjin Masterforce no Theme]]" plays as its opening theme and "[[Moero!
==Overview==

==Storyline==

:''Devil Z is a super-energy being from the [[Super-God Masterforce (franchise)|Super-God Masterforce]] portion of the [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Deril Z.gif|right|320px|thumb|It's the Magic Cyst of Devil Z!]]
Devil Z is the main Antagonist of [[Masterforce]] series. The origins of the self-styled "Decepticon God" '''Devil Z''' (デビルZ ''Debiru Z'', with the "Z" pronounced "zed") are shrouded in mystery. Seemingly lacking any corporeal form, he exists purely as a pulsating globe of iridescent energy and is only ever identified as a "super-energy being" hailing from the far reaches of the galaxy.<ref>The true nature of Devil Z is never explained in any broadcast episode of ''[[Super-God Masterforce (cartoon)|Super-God Masterforce]]''. These few scant details of his origins are revealed in the final chapter of the [[Super-God Masterforce (manga)|''Masterforce'' manga]] and "[[Shūta and Grand's Masterforce Super-Secrets!]]".</ref> As the "Führer of Darkness" (闇の総統 ''Yami no Sōtō''), he commands the [[Decepticon]]s on Earth, via his "Ambassador of Destruction", [[Overlord (Masterforce)|Overlord]], and the main Decepticon force in space, through his brainwashed servant, [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]]. Although he almost always acts through his pawns, rarely dirtying his own hands (er, metaphorically speaking), he is terrifyingly powerful in his own right, able to generate enough energy to devastate a planet with his [[Devil Power]].

Devil Z's goal is creation of the ultimate lifeform, the [[Godmaster]], which he sought to accomplish by fusing [[Transformer]]s and [[human]] beings into one, thereby creating a lifeform that could wield all three aspects of [[Chōkon Power]]. To this end, he stole a collection of eight [[Transtector]]s from the [[G Nebula 89|G Nebula]], and spirited them away across time and space to [[Earth]]. With the Transtectors scattered across the planet, Devil Z entered a deep slumber at the bottom of an ocean trench, awakening in the early years of the 21st century to begin his plan. Devil Z quickly built his army by capturing and brainwashing the current Decepticon leader Scorponok (who had just recreated himself as BlackZarak) and liberating the Decepticon [[Pretender]]s from the Earthly prisons their Autobot counterparts had sealed them in epochs beforehand, and then recruited a pair of humans named [[Giga]] and [[Mega]]. Devil Z merged these two humans to the largest of the Transtectors, transforming them into Overlord, the first of the Godmasters, and charged them with locating the remaining Transtectors hidden across Earth.

While Giga and Mega were busy conducting their search for the Godmaster Transtectors, Devil Z resided in the underwater base occupied by the Pretenders, perched atop a tentacled dais from which he silently regarded his subjects. When [[Blood]] called upon his power to animate the first wave of [[Destroid]]s {{storylink|Terror! The Decepticons' Manhunt}} and to drive animals in [[Africa]] into a frenzy {{storylink|Panic! Protect the Wild Animals!!}}, Devil Z complied, but when [[Gilmer]] happened to walk past his pillar, muttering to himself about the ineptitude of the [[Headmaster Junior]]s, Devil Z struck him with a bolt of energy, causing the Pretender to beg his forgiveness. {{storylink|Go, Goshooter - Showdown in the Wasteland}}

After Giga and Mega successfully located and trained the first new Godmasters, [[Hydra (Masterforce)|Hydra]] and [[Buster]], he brought his two sets of troops together in his underwater base. {{storylink|Super Warriors - The Godmaster Brothers|Super Warriors - The Godmaster Brothers}} {{storylink|A Fierce Battle!! The Autobots Are in Trouble}} The first major obstruction in Devil Z's plan came not long after, when the Autobots recruited a Godmaster of their own, [[Ginrai]]. {{storylink|A Hero Is Chosen - His Name Is Ginrai}} Devil Z was finally heard to speak when he vowed that no more Godmasters would become Autobots, and ordered Ginrai's destruction. {{storylink|Eliminate the Godmaster Ginrai}} Unfortunately for Devil Z, what he had failed to realize was that all the remaining Transtectors he had stolen had been intended for Autobot use, and consequently, the human beings who merged with them all allied with the Autobots, thwarting his attempt to increase his army. {{storylink|Lightfoot: A Dramatic Encounter}} {{storylink|An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger}} {{storylink|Assemble! The Four Godmaster Gunmen}}

This failure did not sit well with Devil Z, who summoned BlackZarak back to Earth, only to have him forced back into space by Ginrai after a dramatic battle on the moon. {{storylink|God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon}} However, during this prolonged stay in space, BlackZarak mastered localised gravity manipulation, allowing him to create black holes which he used to teleport himself directly to Earth. Once there, he and the other Decepticons enacted Devil Z's "Operation M-1", rampaging across the planet until the Autobots stopped them. {{storylink|BlackZarak - Destroyer from Space}}

Having now witnessed the untapped potential for power within human beings, Devil Z formulated "Operation M-2"—the complete destruction of humankind through use of the atmosphere-destroying "[[Death Para-Machine]]". The Autobots yet again foiled his plan and destroyed the Death Para-Machine, but the willingness of their emperor to wipe out mankind had already planted a seed of doubt within the minds of Giga and Mega. {{storylink|Crisis! The Day of Human Extinction}}

[[Image:Devilz2.jpg|right|200px|thumb|My God...it's full of stars!]]
Not long thereafter, when the Autobots invaded the Decepticon base, an outraged Devil Z played his trump card. Declaring that he would now reveal his true form to the assembled Autobots and Decepticons, Devil Z exploded with light, transforming first into a bizarre embryonic creature, and then into a sinister crimson mist that flowed into BlackZarak. Now in control of the powerful Decepticon's body and mind, Devil Z promptly collapsed the Decepticon base in a failed attempt to destroy the Autobots. {{storylink|The Ultimate Combination!! BlackZarak, the New Lifeform}} Subsequently, the Decepticons relocated to the Amazon, where the hybrid Devil Z/BlackZarak entity announced his intention to revisit his plan to wipe out mankind. Again, Giga voiced his concern over the drastic nature of the plan, but again, Devil Z ignored him, driving the wedge between the alien and his servant even further. As it turned out, Devil Z's contempt for flesh was even shared by Hydra and Buster, who petitioned Devil Z to purge them of their humanity and merge them completely with their Transtectors so that they could become purely robotic lifeforms. Devil Z complied, and the newly-robotic Hydra and Buster were sent to battle Ginrai while Devil Z unleashed his Devil Power on a devastating attack on North America. {{storylink|Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn}} When the Autobots arrived to stop him, Devil Z responded by turning his Devil Power on the four former Decepticons who had since joined up with the Autobots—[[Wilder]], [[Bullhorn]], [[Cancer]] and [[Clouder]]—separating them from their Transtectors and bringing the robotic bodies to life as true super-robot lifeforms. {{storylink|Autobots! Desperate Attack!!}}

[[Image:Blackzarak robotmode.jpg|left|250px|thumb|]]
For Devil Z's final attack on Earth, he moved the Decepticons to the peak of the Matterhorn in the Alps and unleashed his Devil Power over Europe. The Autobots again gave chase, and Ginrai once again bested Hydra and Buster in combat, leading the enraged Devil Z to take out his frustrations on the two brothers. As he lashed them with his spear and blasted them with energy beams, Overlord finally spoke out against his emperor, but his concern for his subordinate was met only with contempt. Able to bear no more, Overlord attempted to strike Devil Z, but was cut down by the giant Decepticon, and would have been destroyed had Ginrai not arrived in time to save him. Devil Z was kept busy by [[Sixknight]] while Ginrai got Overlord to safety, and by the time he had destroyed the Six Changer, Ginrai had returned to the mountain peak to face off against him. {{storylink|Malevolent and Inhuman! The True Form of Devil Z}} Uninterested in fighting Ginrai, Devil Z transformed BlackZarak to scorpion mode and attempted to depart, intending to head for Antarctica, where he had already planted an amplifier for his Devil Power that would allow him to eliminate mankind with ease. Ginrai, of course, did not let him leave without a fight, dragging him back down to the mountain and prompting Devil Z to inflict the ultimate punishment: he unleashed his Devil Power on Ginrai, intent on transforming him into a true robot as he had done with Hydra and Buster, removing from him the humanity he so coveted. Thankfully, Ginrai was rescued by [[Grand Maximus]], and his revenge was swift, as he punched BlackZarak's head clean off his shoulders.

[[Image:Devilz vs ginrai.jpg|right|225px|thumb|]]
The Autobots' believed that Devil Z was down, but the loss of his host's head did little to impede the alien's evil, and he simply transformed BlackZarak's body into a new serpentine form to continue the fight. At that point, Overlord appeared and opened fire on his leader, and Devil Z responded by killing Giga and Mega and bringing the Overlord Transtector to life as a true robot. Furious at the unrepentant evil of Devil Z, Ginrai merged his powers with those of the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, and unleashed a super-charged version of his God Fire Guts attack upon the villain, reducing BlackZarak's body to ashes. Without a host to contain it, the energy orb of Devil Z coalesced in front of Ginrai once more, growing to enormous size and raging impotently that the Godmasters were tools that would never be able to defeat their maker. Defiantly, Ginrai and the Juniors summoned up every ounce of their energy for the "Final Fire Guts" attack, and Ginrai dove like a flaming spear into the heart of Devil Z, who screamed and exploded in a coruscating wave of light and darkness.

At the sight of Devil Z's death, the surviving Decepticons immediately turned tail and fled into space. The aliens' death also severed the bond he had forged between the humans and their Transtectors, and the Autobots found themselves separated from their robot bodies. The Autobot Transtectors were brought to life, and they pursued the surviving Decepticons back into space. {{storylink|A Battle... and Then...}}
[[Image:Devilz manga.jpg|left|180px|thumb|Vaginas are scary.]]
Devil Z came into contact with Giga and Mega when the couple drowned at sea, and he elected to use his powers to resurrect them as his emissaries and servants. {{storylink|The Birth of the Super Lifeforms}} At first, he left most of the work up to them, clinging to the shadows, handing down commands without ever being seen, and being spoken of only rarely by his subordinates. Exactly where he was based was never revealed; he does not appear to have remained on Earth after awakening.

When the Decepticons' attempt to defeat the Autobots with holograms of legendary Decepticons from years past failed, Buster inquired if there were any ''real'' troops they could call on, and Giga announced that they would have to wait for Devil Z's order. {{storylink|Burn, Super Soul! The New Commander Super Ginrai!}} The order came soon, as he instructed the Decepticons on Earth to join forces with the space-based Decepticon forces and attack the Autobots on [[Athenia]]. During the ensuing battle, Devil Z's existence was revealed to the Autobots when the Decepticons boasted that they had all been united under his rule. {{storylink|The Battle Begins! The United Earth-Space Troops}}

[[Image:Devilz head on%21.jpg|right|250px|thumb|Devil Z always did want to get ahead in life.]]
Devil Z proceeded to upgrade BlackZarak's powers, {{storylink|Decepticons' Great Counterattack!}} and brought the giant Decepticon back to Earth. After several further failures on the Decepticons' part, Devil Z took matters into his own hands, transforming Buster and Hydra into true robots, and possessing BlackZarak's body, positioning his glowing orb between the Decepticon's shoulders in place of his actual head. In this form, Devil Z appeared during a battle between Ginrai and the other Decepticons, and transformed BlackZarak's body into a new serpentine mode as everyone looked on in shock. Devil Z then turned on the other Decepticons, and attempted to drain theirs and Ginrai's Jinchōkon, intending to absorb it and thereby transform ''himself'' into the ultimate lifeform. His absorption beam was blocked by the sudden arrival of the wholly-robotic Autobot Pretenders, saving Ginrai and the Decepticons from a nasty fate, and the Decepticons all decided to join with the Autobots to defeat their treacherous former master. Climbing aboard Grand Maximus, all the Transformers united their energies in the "Perfect Transform Attack", and the super-charged Grand Maximus charged into Devil Z, destroying him and BlackZarak for good in a blinding explosion of pure Chōkon Power.

The death of Devil Z resulted in the bond he had forged between the humans and their Transtectors being severed, causing the humans to be separated from their robot bodies, and the Transtectors to come to life as true super-robot lifeforms. Additionally, his destruction caused the energies sustaining Giga and Mega to cease, and they died along with him. The now-living Autobot and Decepticon Transtectors resolved to take their war back into space, where they would rejoin their respective factions and continue their conflict. {{storylink|The Birth of the Super Lifeforms}}
==Notes==
* BlackZarak would later be resurrected by the supernatural [[Violen Jiger]] for the events of the ''[[Zone (franchise)|Zone]]'' anime and manga. Whether or not he was revived with Devil Z's consciousness or his own original mind was never expounded upon, but it seems unlikely that Violen Jiger would have taken that risk.
* Devil Z's name is pronounced with the Commonwealth "zed", rather than the American "zee". Or if you were feeling particularly weeabooish, you could pronounce it "zetto".
* Devil Z holds the…''unique'' honor of being the only Decepticon big bad to have a ''song'' dedicated to him: "[[Uchū no Shihaisha - Devil Z]]" (宇宙の支配者・デビルZ "Ruler of the Universe — Devil Z"). This "image song" was originally sold on a [[Masterforce Hit Song Collection|''Masterforce'' soundtrack]] in 1988, and was recently re-issued on both the ''[[History of Music: 1984-1990]]'' and ''[[Song Universe]]'' 5-disc sets. The song was performed by [[Toshiya Igarashi]], who also performed the intro and ending songs for ''Masterforce''. Just in case you weren't clear on how evil he was, the song opens with a screaming refrain of "BAD BAD BAD!" Because…y'know, he's ''bad''.
* Due to the events of ''Masterforce'', the [[Scorponok (G1)#Super-God Masterforce|BlackZarak toy]] also doubles as a Devil Z toy. But then, so does a [[wikipedia:Plasma globe|plasma globe]], or even steam from a kettle...
* Interestingly, "Mazinger Z" the name of the first super robot anime, can be translated as "Devil Z".
Sure, [[Starscream (Prime)|other Decepticons]] may scoff at his decision to go with a land-based alternate mode, but '''Knock Out''' couldn't care less. He knows the value of looking ''good'' and isn't afraid to let others know it. It's not simply his own lines he's interested in; he has an appreciation for well-built mechanical bodyforms of all sizes and functions... and a nasty penchant for tearing them apart after he's done admiring them. Slick, sly and snobbish, he's ostensibly the Decepticons' "medic", though he professes both a preference and proficiency for ''dis''-assembly.

Both in the operation room and on the battlefield, Knock Out is rarely without his brutish partner [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]]. Knock Out is the speedster of the duo, swiftly striking his victim's vulnerables with his [[Energon prod]] in debilitating sneak attacks while Breakdown goes the "massive smackdown" route with his raw power.

[[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] called Knock Out and Breakdown to the ''[[Nemesis (Prime)|Nemesis]]'' to help fix [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]]. As they were on an [[energon (fuel)|energon]] trail at the time, only Knock Out initially turned up at the ship, and he was shocked at Megatron's condition. When Breakdown did join them, it was with news that he'd discovered an [[Energon Harvester]] was on [[Earth]]. As the [[Autobot]]s had already surrounded the museum the device was in, Knock Out and Breakdown organised a diversion at the front of the building. During the fight, Knock Out attacked [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] with his prod, but was flattened by [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] after the Autobot was punched by Breakdown. The two Decepticons sped off into the city after they saw that [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] had captured the Harvester. Knock Out subsequently accompanied Starscream and Breakdown to an [[energon (fuel)|energon]] seam in [[Greece]]. He and Breakdown got the opportunity to fight Bulkhead again, but came off decidedly second-best, and they both fled after the Harvester was destroyed and the other Autobots turned up. {{storylink|Deus ex Machina}}

[[Image:KnockOutvehiclemode.jpg|thumb|]]
Knock Out took to engaging in street racing with the humans. On one occasion, a [[Fast Willy|hapless human]] who scratched his paint job was run off the road by the Decepticon. Despite Starscream's disapproval of his participation in such events, Knock Out continued to cruise around, looking for action, and was eventually drawn to a street race near [[Jasper]]. After the race started, he realized that one of the other cars taking part was [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] and attacked the Autobot. He ended up grabbing what he assumed was Bumblebee's human pal, but was actually an unrelated human named [[Vince]]. Making off, he contacted Breakdown and they attempted to spring an ambush on the three Autobots who came to rescue the boy, but after [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] jumped on him, he decided to withdraw to avoid any more damage to his finish. Unfortunately he was caught by Optimus Prime, who ''ripped his door off'' while rescuing Vince. Faced with four Autobots, Knock Out fled back to the ''Nemesis'' only to face a very angry Starscream, who put a few more scratches in his finish. {{storylink|Speed Metal}}

Starscream offered him a position as second-in-command if he helped convince Soundwave that they needed to humanely terminate Megatron. Knock Out tried his best, pointing out that the brain activity Megatron was displaying just meant their leader was in a dream state from which he might never wake up. Soundwave remained unconvinced, and after an Autobot incursion severed Megatron's life support, Knock Out was forced to reconnect it. The medic later reported to Starscream that, though Megatron's body lived on, his brain activity had ceased. {{storylink|Sick Mind}}

[[Image:OutHead-Knockoutfails.jpg|thumb|250px|left|"But he came aboard the bow my Lord!"]]
He found Starscream in the middle of making a speech to Megatron's body and reminded Starscream of his rank. During the enacting of Starscream's new plan, Knock Out stood atop the ship's back, watching as a Vehicon activated a heat ray to melt a glacier. He ordered Breakdown to take care of Bulkhead and Arcee when the two Autobots turned up, but failed to notice Optimus approaching the ship from behind. The Autobot subsequently caused the heat ray to explode. {{storylink|Out of His Head}}

{{spoiler|Shadowzone (episode)|June 18, 2011}}
With his tenure as second-in-command over, Knock Out went back to his original post as medic. Following Starscream's... "treatment" at the hands of Megatron, Knock Out administered whatever passed for Decepticon medical care. He was surprised to see the patient up and about, thought Starscream claimed to be fine. Some time later, Starscream was back in the infirmary minus an arm, which he claimed had just fallen off. Knock Out tried to interest him in a new, upgraded limb, even going so far as to fetch one from storage, but Starscream announced he was going to get his old one back. He subsequently turned up back at the infirmary with even worse damage, but despite Knock Out's inquiries into what had happened, Starscream refused to talk about it. {{Storylink|Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone}}
*Knock Out's [[license plate]] reads "JOFY 892".
*Some fans have interpreted Starscream's "you're one of ''those"'' line (referring to his car-mode preference), Knock Out's wolf-whistling appraisal of Optimus's truck mode, the vanity about his appearance, and [[Daran Norris]]'s somewhat campy performance to be clues that Knock Out is [[Transformer romance|gay]]. Moreover, the term "knockout" is commonly used to describe an attractive ''woman''. Make of all this what you will, as very little [[Humanization#Sexuality|robotic sexuality]] of any kind has been evident in ''Prime'' so far, outside of a lightly-implied connection between [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]] and Arcee.
*Knock Out is the first ''Prime'' Decepticon to debut after the pilot miniseries and survive the experience. Breakdown might be considered to share that distinction, but technically he debuted ''before'' the cartoon, as he appeared in the [[Transformers: War for Cybertron (games)|''War for Cybertron'' video games]] and the [[Transformers: Prime (comic)|''Prime'' comic]] first.
*His robot mode seems to resemble a automobile version of [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]]. However he sometimes seems to have the luck of [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]]

'''Skyquake'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s loyalties are unlikely to be questioned anytime soon. A Decepticon guardian sent to protect Earth's energon stocks, he is completely loyal to Megatron. He will not only obey every order, he will follow them until Megatron says otherwise, regardless of the passage of time. He also possesses a rather short temper and is not beyond backhanding anyone who frustrates him.

Millennia ago, during the great war, [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] tasked Skyquake with assassinating [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] at the [[Battle of Technar]] but Skyquake failed to carry out his mission. He was later one of a number of Decepticon guardians sent to Earth by Megatron when the planet was seeded with Energon.

In the modern era, he was sought out by [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]], who needed a strong presence to inspire [[Vehicon (Prime)|his troops]] into believing his reign would be a successful one. However, Skyquake was less amiable to the idea, firmly announcing both his loyalty to Megatron and his lack of faith in Starscream's claims of Megatron's death. Before the pair came to blows, Optimus and [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] appeared on the scene. Skyquake reminded Prime of their encounter during the Battle of Technar, but Optimus still offered both Decepticons a chance at peace. Starscream showed some interest, as long as Optimus bowed to him, causing a frustrated Skyquake to belt him aside and attack Prime. Bumblebee threw himself into the fray but proved more of a distraction than anything else. He did manage to buy Optimus the time to realise Skyquake still lacked a [[Alternate mode|vehicle mode]].[[Image:Masters&Students-SkyquakeDeceased.jpg|thumb|right|250px|I'm okay.]] Using the canyon they were battling in to their advantage, the Autobots managed to corner Skyquake. Unfortunately, [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] appeared in a high-tech military jet, which Skyquake immediately [[Scanning|scanned]].

Skyquake quickly dominated the battle until Bumblebee threw himself on the jet and, as Skyquake tried to shake him off, ripped out his internals. Bumblebee jumped onto Fowler's plane as a heavily-injured Skyquake crashed into the ground. After Skyquake closed his optics for possibly one last time, Prime sadly noted how things might have been different, before burying the Decepticon. {{storylink|Masters & Students}}

{{spoiler|Shadowzone (episode)|June 14, 2011}}
[[Image:Shadowzone-alone.jpg|left|thumb|300px|I am not ''burned'', just ''scorched.'' Wait...]]
Some time later, Starscream attempted to resurrect Skyquake using a chunk of [[Dark Energon]]. It worked, and Skyquake rose as a [[Terrorcon (Prime)|zombie]], however a [[GroundBridge]] incident transported him to a strange alternate dimension along with the Autobots' human friends [[Miko Nakadai]], [[Jack Darby]] and [[Raf Esquivel]]. After discovering that he couldn't harm the Autobots, who were still in the real world, Skyquake began pursuing the three kids. They managed to find Starscream's arm, left behind during the battle, and use it to shoot Skyquake. This merely resulted in his arm coming off and chasing them. It followed them back through a rescue portal created by [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] and briefly assaulted Starscream before he shook it loose. The rest of Skyquake continued to roam the [[shadowzone (dimension)|shadowzone]] and made a vain attempt to repair himself with Starscream's lost arm. {{Storylink|Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone}}

==Notes==
* It's a lucky thing Agent Fowler provided a jet with arm and leg kibble underneath for Skyquake to scan!
* While crash-landings have seldom been fatal to [[Transformer]]s in past series, ''Prime'' executive producer [[Jeff Kline]] has stated that "When we kill a character, we kill a character."<ref>[http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/36193/transformers-prime-premiere-report-and-video-clip-plus-season-two-confirmation ToonZone.net summary of a Q&A session with the ''Prime'' creative team]</ref> [[Shadowzone (episode)|He's not exactly ''wrong'' but...]]
When a mysterious space-time-warping device crash-landed on the Planet [[Gaea]], the [[Maximal|Maximals]], led by [[Lio Convoy]], and the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], led by [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]], raced to be the first to get it. The Predacons got there first and accidentally used its power to summon the mighty Majin Zarak from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s past to aid them in battle.

To counter the threat of the nigh-invincible Majin Zarak, the Maximals summoned [[Optimus Primal]] from the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] of Prehistoric [[Earth]]. Majin Zarak had no trouble defeating the likes of the Maximals due to his massive size, virtual invulnerability and plethora of devastating attacks.

In the end, the Maximals discovered his weak-spot was the third eye on his forehead, which was where all his nerve-endings were clustered. Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal used the combined power of their individual [[Energon Matrix|Energon Matrices]] to transform themselves into Flash Lio Convoy and Burning Convoy. Together, they unleashed the power of their Matrices into a combined attack called the "Double Matrix Blast". The blast struck Majin Zarak in his third eye, killing him on the spot. {{storylink|Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger|Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger}}
'''Galvatron kicks the Beast Wars on Gaea into overdrive when he summons forth one of the greatest monstrosities of the past, Majin Zarak, to lay waste to the Maximals.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:BWII-Mysterious Ship Vs Combiners.jpg|250px|left|thumb|]]

Above the Planet [[Gaea]], where [[Lio Convoy]] and his [[Maximal]]s are fighting the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] against [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] and his [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], a strange ship appears. It disrupts a musical battle between the [[Jointron]]s and the [[Seacon (BWII)|Seacons]], plowing through them and breaking apart their combined forms. As the ship draws nearer, the radar on the ''[[Yukikaze (BWII)|Yukikaze]]'' warns the Maximals of its approach. They turn to Lio Convoy for directions. Lio Convoy rises with a twinkle in his eye.

Over on the ''[[Galvaburg II]]'', Galvatron and [[Megastorm|Gigastorm]] have discovered the approaching ship, too. Gigastorm recommends destroying it, but Galvatron has a "feeling" that it will bring the Predacons great fortune.

The ship crashes into the frozen tundra of Gaea's North Pole. [[Apache]] picks it up on his scanners and Lio Convoy orders a unit to investigate. [[Lio Junior]] begs to go, but the other Maximals shoot him down, telling him to go to his room and take a nap or whatever it is whippersnappers do these days. Lio Convoy orders Lio Junior to stay behind in case they need back-up, much to his dismay. [[Tasmania Kid]] interjects, asking Convoy to let Lio Junior go and that he'll take responsibility for him. Lio Convoy concedes and allows Lio Junior to participate.

Taking [[Santon]] and [[Skywarp (BWII)|Skywarp]] along, Lio Junior and Tasmania Kid arrive in the frozen north. They then change to beast mode and begin searching. They eventually find the ship, seemingly abandoned, and Lio Junior wastes no time rushing inside to explore. Against Skywarp's advisement, Lio Junior begins pressing random buttons on a computer console and activates a teleport gate. No one knows what what a "teleport gate" is except Tasmania Kid (oddly). He explains that it is a device that can control space-time and pluck living creatures from any point in history, including Transformers! The computer, however, requires a "control unit" in order to function.

Lio Junior finds the control unit (a rock-like spear) inside a floating ball, but before he can grab it, [[BB|Max B]] drops in and swipes it. He then leaves and meets back up with [[Starscream (BWII)|Hellscream]], [[Thrust (BWII)|Thrustor]] and [[Dirge (BWII)|Dirgegun]]. Being a brash young stereotype, Lio Junior chases after Max B by himself and demands the Predacons fork over the control unit. Hellscream casually brushes his threat aside, telling Lio Junior to "go home and suck on his mother's breast". Lio Junior attacks, but it tossed aside by Hellscream without much effort. The other Maximals finally catch up and Lio Junior tells Skywarp and Santon its time to combine. Skywarp refuses, telling Lio Convoy that they aren't spiritually in sync enough to combine.

[[Image:Liojunior.jpg|250px|right|thumb|]]

Lio Junior gets frustrated and recklessly attacks Hellscream, snatching back the control unit. Hellscream responds by firing a powerful "Terrorstorm" blast at him. Tasmania Kid, however, leaps in front of him and takes the whole of the blast. Before he passes out, he tells Lio Junior that apparently there's nothing that can stop his selfish behavior. The Predacons then combine their power and attack the injured Maximals with a volley of firepower. Like a helpless little baby, Lio Junior cries and begs for them to please stop. Luckily, Lio Convoy and the other Maximals arrive just in time to stop them and scare them off.

The battle over and Kid not responding to treatment, Lio Convoy asks for a ''private'' meeting with Lio Junior. Lio Convoy scolds him, telling him that he ordered him to ''investigate'', not engage in battle. Lio Junior snaps back, saying that if it weren't for ''him'', the Predacons would have the control unit. Now, the Maximals have the power of the teleport gate in their hands. Lio Convoy tells him none of that matters, since it may be at the cost of Kid's life. He asks Lio Junior if the control unit was worth his friend's life. Lio Junior responds by saying he doesn't ''have'' any friends because everyone's always making fun of him and he just wanted to prove himself. Lio Convoy asks him if he's forgotten the ''reason'' the Maximals are fighting. Lio Junior apparently has, so Convoy reminds him that it's to protect the peace in the universe. He then says that anyone who has forgotten the Maximal reason for fighting is no comrade of his. Lio Junior throws a tantrum, saying he no longer wants to be a Maximal and that with the power of the control unit, he'll defeat the Predacons ''himself''. He then transforms and runs off.

As the Maximals fly off in the ''Yukikaze'', tending to a mortally wounded Tasmania Kid, Dirgegun reports to Galvatron on the ''Galvaburg II'' that the control unit is required to operate the teleport gate. Galvatron is apparently aware of Lio Junior's tantrum and mocks Lio Convoy's inability to take command of a single brat. He then finds Lio Junior alone in a forest and, with the rest of the Predacons, approaches him. Galvatron says that he came to help; the forest is full of dangerous animals and pitfalls. The Predacons will happily take the wayward cub in and protect him so long as he hands over the control unit. Lio Junior refuses. Galvatron then sits down and decides to tell him "the truth". The teleport gate is actually a doomsday weapon capable of destroying a whole planet. The Predacons activated it by mistake and now they need the control unit to shut it down, otherwise the planet will be destroyed in under an hour.

Lio Junior is about to buy it, when the still injured and bandaged Kid comes crawling out of the woods, warning Junior not to listen. Junior isn't sure who to believe, but decides that preventing the destruction of Gaea is a sure way to earn the respect of Lio Convoy and the others.

As Kid collapses, Junior returns with Galvatron to the ''Galvaburg II'' and hands over the control unit. Immediately, Galvatron orders Gigastorm to release the teleport gate and summon the most powerful and vicious Transformer in history: [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] (or maybe [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]; see Note below). Hellscream then throws Lio Junior in a cell and taunts him with the imminent destruction of the Maximals.

On the ''Yukikaze'', Kid returns and tells everyone that Lio Junior has defected to the Predacons. Lio Convoy swears to give him a lot more than a stearn talking to when they get him back, but Tasmania Kid urges them not to judge Junior so harshly. He says he knows how Lio Junior feels, as he was also a young runt trying to prove himself not long ago.

[[Image:GalvatronBW1.jpg|250px|left|thumb|"Yarr, it's drivin' me nuts!"]]

At the teleport gate, Gigastorm locks onto Megatron's wavelength and activates the machine. Three units pop out of the side of the ship, float into the sky and open up a triangular interdimensional doorway. Through it, something big, horrible and most certainly ''not'' Megatron falls throug, nearly crushing the [[Autoroller]]s in the process. Galvatron smacks his brother, Gigastorm, for screwing up the coordinates and demands Hellscream find out what that thing is. Galvatron's mood changes when he learns that it is the great [[Majin Zarak]]. Majin Zarak transforms into a gigantic ''holy crap gonna kill you'' monster and Galvatron takes command of his control unit (an old fashioned nautical stearing wheel, oddly). After thanking Lio Junior via video phone for providing him with a weapon superior to Megatron, he uses Majin Zarak to destroy a gigantic iceberg and then transforms him to aircraft carrier mode.

At the ''Yukikaze'', their sensors discover the legendary Majin Zarak, much to everyone's horror. Lio Convoy orders them to attack, anyway. They arrive, only to find that Majin Zarak's aircraft carrier mode can ''also'' move over land. The Maximals attack in a small craft, but are quickly swatted away by Zarak's superior firepower. They decide to land and attack fromthe ground.

On the ''Galvaburg II'', Lio Junior breaks out of his cell and escapes. Thrustor and Diregun give chase, but luckily for Junior, Skywarp and Santon arrive to even the odds and fight them off. Skywarp invites Junior to help in the battle against Zarak, but Junior says there's a place they must go, first. Skywarp suggests they all go as one and the three of them fuse into [[Magnaboss II|Magnaboss]]. He gets blasted in the chest by the retreating Thurstor, though, and is forced to march to the alien ship with a bad injury. With his last ounce of strength, Magnaboss uses his own power source to charge the teleport gate and summons a mysterious figure.

[[Image:BWII-Majin Zarak blast.jpg|250px|right|thumb|Ahhh! Hairball!]]

Back at the canyon, the Maximals fight their way past the Autorollers, Hellscream and Max B, but are still overwhelmed by Majin Zarak's power. Lio Convoy makes it onto the carrier and sends Gigastorm flying away with his Lio Typhoon. Galvatron's decided he's had enough and transforms Majin Zarak into his frickin' Godzilla mode. Zarak then uses the three cannons on his back to destroy a whole mountain range and scatter the Maximals. Galvatron thinks he's won, but he suddenly receives a Maximal text message: "You think you've won, but we won't be defeated. Let us settle this. Come to point B-2. -Convoy"

Buried beneath tons of rock, Lio Convoy hears a familiar voice urging him to fight on. He explains that he was summoned by Magnaboss, a selfless warrior who used his own power to bring him here. Lio Convoy is sorry he underestimated Magnaboss (and by extension, Lio Junior) and asks who the mysterious warrior is. They shake hands and in a blast of light, the tons of rock are cleared. Magnaboss greets Lio Convoy and tells him he's rescued the other Maximals. He then introduces them to...wait for it...''wait for it''...
{{-}}
[[image:OptimusPrimalAnimeOMG01.jpg|center|250px|thumb|]]

<center>[[Optimus Primal]]!</center>

The "legendary General Commander" swears to help the injured Maximals win at all costs. Lio Convoy decides that while he, Primal and Bighorn attack Majin Zarak, [[Scuba]], [[Apache]] and the rest will try and find his weak point. Magnaboss wants to fight, but Lio Convoy says he's too injured. Once again, Tasmania Kid convinces him to let the brat fight. The [[Insectron]]s then report that Majin Zarak is headed for point B-2, a narrow canyon where his bulky body will be useless. The Maximals then rally for their final battle.

[[image:DoubleConvoyTogetherAtLast01.jpg|250px|left|thumb|]]

At point B-2, Primal and Convoy confront Galvatron, much to his surprise to see the two warriors standing together. Galvatron attempts to rush the leaders, but with Tasmania Kid's power source channeling into him, Magnaboss is strong enough to pick the aircraft carrier up and hurl it onto its side. The blow knocks Galvatron out of the ship, but he's rescued by Gigastorm, who carries him off in his hovercraft mode.

Suddenly, Majin Zarak transforms on his own. Turns out, he's alive! Majin Zarak appears invincible until Diver chimes in, having just discovered his weak spot. The third eye on his forehead is where all his nerve centers are clustered. A direct hit will destroy him, just like in a video game!

[[image:FlashBurningConvoy01.jpg|right|250px|thumb|It's called style, people. Look it up.]]

Hearing this, Optimus Primal and Lio Convoy synchronize their [[Energon Matrix|Energon Matrices]] and upgrade into Flash Lio Convoy and Burning Convoy. Burning Convoy transforms to monkey mode and rides atop Flash Lio Convoy's lion mode. They then leap into Zarak's face and Burning Convoy lands a mighty punch into his third eye. Flying away, they then combine the power of the Energon Matrices into the "Double Matrix Blaster", destroy his eye and blow him to smithereens.

The battle won, they return to the teleport gate. Lio Junior begs Primal to stay, but he reminds them that he still has to win the Beast Wars on planet [[Earth|Energoa]]. Besides, he says, their army is fine just the way it is. Apache interjects and says that, after some research, he's concluded that because the device plays havoc with time and space, it could conceivable destroy the universe, hence why whoever built it sent it to Gaea to be destroyed. Optimus Primal then returns to his proper place and time and the Maximals destroy the gate behind him.
==Notes==
*"Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!" is the second portion of ''[[Beast Wars Special Super Lifeform Transformers]]'', starring the ''[[Beast Wars II (franchise)|Beast Wars II]]'' cast.

*Due to the presence of the [[Angolmois]] upgraded [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]] but the overall lack of the ''[[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]]'' as an immediate threat, this movie likely takes place between episode 32, "[[The Lio Convoy Assassination Plot]]", and episode 38, "[[Fly Out! Planet Gaea]]", of the ''[[Beast Wars II (cartoon)|Beast Wars II]]'' animated series.

*If you notice the gun that Bighorn has in his mouth he fires him self, even though someone else needs to pull his tail to fire it.

*While laying unconscious under a rock, Lio Convoy remarks that Optimus Primal's voice sounds "familiar" when Primal begins speaking to him via cyberspace. The ''[[Kiss Players (franchise)|Kiss Players]]'' timeline retroactively separated Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal by a gulf of several thousand years (seemingly to accomodate Primal's status as a "legendary commander" in this film), making one wonder how Lio Convoy could be acquainted with the sound of Primal's voice if he'd been dead for such a long period of time (historical videos, perhaps?). A [[Catalog#Beast Wars II|toy catalog]] released at the beginning of the ''[[Beast Wars II (franchise)|Beast Wars II]]'' toyline showed Optimus Primal naming Lio Convoy as his successor, though the canonicity of this catalog has come under scrutiny since the ''Kiss Players'' retcon. Whether the catalog applied to the animated ''Beast Wars II'' continuity prior to the retcon is also something of an issue, as Lio Convoy didn't ''become'' Lio Convoy until ''after'' crashing on planet Gaea there. The events of the catalog are canonically referenced in the [[Beast Wars II Mission-003|third issue]] of the ''[[Beast Wars II (manga)|Beast Wars II]]'' manga, which ''isn't'' canon with the cartoon series so... look, just forget we said ''anything''.

===Which Megatron?===
Technically speaking, it is unclear just ''which'' "Megatron" Galvatron and his crew intended to summon across time and space: [[Megatron (G1)|Generation 1 Megatron]] or [[Megatron (BW)|''Beast Wars'' Megatron]].

[[Image:MegatronGalvatronBW1.jpg|right|220px|thumb|]]
At the time the movie was released, a ''Beast Wars II'' toy catalog (see right) showed Galvatron and ''Beast Wars'' Megatron as rivals on their home planet of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], meaning the characters from ''Beast Wars'' and ''Beast Wars II'' hailed from the same "home era" despite their respective time-travel escapades. This would make the idea of Galvatron requesting Megatron as "the greatest and most vicious Transformer in history" seem unlikely, but it is unknown if the film writers were aware of the backstory presented in the catalog—or, even if they did, whether they would have ''cared'', as the film only has as much plot as any given ''Dragon Ball Z'' movie.

In any event, given that the ''Beast Wars II'' Maximals venerated Optimus Primal as a "Legendary Supreme Commander" in the film despite his meager rank as a starship captain, Occam's razor suggests ''Beast Wars'' Megatron as Galvatron's most likely target, as he provides a better parallel to the eventual appearance of Optimus Primal in the film itself.

For a different take on events, the history of the ''Beast Wars II'' characters was [[retcon]]ned many years later by a [[Generation 1 cartoon timeline (Japan)|timeline]] published as part of the ''Kiss Players'' franchise; this chronicle ignored the catalog and indicated that the ''Beast Wars II'' characters came from "tens of thousands of years" in the future, essentially relegating Galvatron and ''Beast Wars'' Megatron's history together to some micro-continuity.
