:Landmine is an Autobot in the Energon and Cybertron portions of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Landmine is a fighter. He lives by a soldier's code and thrives on honor and loyalty to his comrades and commanders. Unlike his brother Landquake, he thoroughly enjoys the life of a warrior. Landmine's rough around the edges and a little old-fashioned, but he's got a warm heart under that gruff exterior. Since he's so old, he bruises easily, but after some mechanical tinkering from Red Alert or Coby, he's always back up on his feet, anxious to re-enter the battle swingin'.

In his millennia of existence, he has trained a number of warriors, including Mudflap and Optimus Prime.
Animated continuity
Energon
:Voice actor: Ward Perry (U.S.), Kenta Miyake (Japan)

When Rodimus left Cybertron eons ago, Landmine was one of the Transformers who chose to go with him. Serving as a traffic guard until the war escalated, Landmine boarded Rodimus' vessel along with his co-worker and partner, Prowl, a patrol officer. Landmine would become Rodimus' right-hand soldier and his personal bodyguard.

Landmine returned to Cybertron during the Powerlinx Battles to assist Rodimus in reviving Unicron and the Planet Q system. Although Landmine served his commander without question, he was sometimes unsure of their ultimate agenda. Landmine joined Team Optimus when Rodimus surrendered his leadership to Prime. Landmine is one of the oldest Autobots currently serving the armed forces of Cybertron.

Cybertron
:Voice actor: Paul Dobson (U.S.), Tomoyuki Shimura (Japan)

Now under the command of Optimus Prime, Landmine opened up more to his new friends. No longer a stranger to Optimus Prime's men, he became a soldier and a mentor to the others due to his wisdom and experience. When the Unicron Singularity threatened Cybertron, Landmine was quick to aid his commander in trying to solve this enormous problem. During the evacuation of Cybertron, Landmine was attacked by Starscream and was nearly flung into the black hole, only to be saved by a warp-gate from Vector Prime's sword.

Landmine ended up crashing on Earth. Injured in the crash, Landmine would be found by Coby, Bud and Lori. After being patched up by Coby, Landmine took quite some time to recover, but remained eager to get back at Starscream. He also gained a second Decepticon "rival" in his former friend Mudflap, whose frustration with being forced to stay hidden on Earth led to his defection.

Landmine ultimately got the chance to get back at Starscream when he tapped into Gigantion's Cyber Planet Key and grew to a gigantic size. With this power, he was able to finaly defeat Starscream before returning to his normal stature.

After the closing of the Unicron Singularity and the death of Galvatron, Landmine and the reformed Mudflap left Earth to meet up with Wing Saber in deep space, who had discovered that Starscream apparently hadn't perished on Gigantion as originally thought.

: Landmine transforms into an orange, blue, and grey Cybertronic half-track battlefield recovery vehicle. Front of the vehicle features a large plow while the rear has a rotating crane that with a working winch, accompanied by a spring-loaded missile launcher. The front half of the vehicle can separate from the tracked portion as a smaller truck cab. The tracked portion can then be reconfigured into mini battle station that Landmine's robot mode can man.

:In robot mode Landmine has no weapons, but his standard 5mm fists can hold any Energon weapons or other weapons sporting a compatable peg system. In the dead center of his chest is his spark crystal, over which an Energon Star can be attached. As a red Powerlinx Autobot, Landmine cannot combine with any other Autobot except for the 'trailer' rear half of his vehicle, forming his Brute Mode. The tracks with their flip-out digger claws mount on his arms while the remaining portion forms a weapons backpack. Connecting the backpack to Landmine will depress a button which activates the classic Generation 1 transformation sound effect.

:The Japanese Superlink release removed the electronics from his brute mode backpack and uses a different shade of blue plastic.

: The mold was later redecoed as Landquake.

:Cybertron Landmine transforms into a yellow wheeled front loader, with a rear mounted pile driver. His bucket shovel can be raised up and down, while his gimmick is unusual in that the Cyber Planet Key slot is in his rear wheels. To configure him into attack mode, one flip's the rear wheels up (there are smaller wheels to support the rear end of the vehicle to compensate) and insert the Cyber Key into the slots and twist, deploying blades down the center of each tire.

:In robot mode, Landmine has a relatively high level articulation, typical of the Cybertron toyline. He is armed with his spring-loaded pile driver rifle, which can fire the driver projectile. His Cyber Key gimmick can still be activated in robot mode, with the rear mounting of the vehicle having the articulation to flip up to a position just behild his head. A thumb dial turns spins the wheels (and thus creating the illusion of powered circular saws).

:Landmine comes with an silver-bordered Earth Cyber Key, with the code dr94 printed on the back. Entering this code into Transformers.com's Cybertron website will reveals a screen capture from an episode of the Cybertron television series of Coby (mislabeled Bud) and Landmine as well as a short paragraph about how Landmine is one of the oldest Autobots, and that he taught Optimus Prime how to fight.

: This mold was redecoed to make 2006 Dawn of Future's Past Rhinox.
:Point Cost: 30
:Base Speed: 10
:Attack Type: Prodder (Punch)

:The Landmine Attacktix figure represents the character's Energon Brute mode, and is subsequently one of the bulkier Transformers Attacktix figures. He has four points of articulation (head, shoulders and waist), though his head articulation is difficult to access because of his crane.

:Landmine's special power allows an immediate free attack for up to three in-play Mini-Con figures. This makes him especially effective when teamed with hordes of well-placed Mini-Cons.

Pokeformers is a derogatory term often used to refer to the Armada toyline or its accompanying fiction by members of the Transformers fandom who weren't particularly fond of the series. The term is a portmanteau of the terms "Pokémon" and "Transformers".

Fans began referring to Armada as "Pokeformers" because the whole premise of the entire show is collect as many of the Mini-Cons as possible, which is a rip-off of "Gotta catch 'em all!" from the Pokémon show.
Yeah.

The comparison between the two series is of some limited merit, though. The Pokémon age bracket is the same as the majority of the Transformers-buying age group (pre-teens), and Hasbro quite deliberately aimed to get their attention with the comparatively cute Mini-Cons. (Clearly, it worked, as kids bought them like they were buttered crack. Hasbro representatives at 2004 admitted that the Mini-Cons were far more popular with kids than they'd anticipated.) In regards to the attached fiction, many early Armada episodes were driven by the search for Mini-Con storage panels (though the focus shifted pretty dramatically away from that about halfway through the series.) The show brought some quasi-anime aspects to Transformers, mirroring the style's predominant popularity at the time in the US (though this was hardly unprecedented). And like the titular Pokémon, the Mini-Cons are small, adorable, surprisingly powerful in combat, somewhat slavishly bound to their "owners", and given a rather limited range of linguistic expression (though this was not an entirely new concept, either.)

Many of these comparisons apply primarily to the cartoon series. In the comics, Mini-Cons were every bit as verbose and articulate as their larger brethren. The comics furthermore did not play up the search for Mini-Cons nearly so much as the cartoon; the Mini-Cons were more akin to fugitives on the run than hapless objects to be collected.

It could be fairly stated that both Pokémon and Armada both simply tapped into a tried and true marketing approach to sell their product. Furthermore, Armada was far from the first to Transformers franchise to use the "Collect them all!" approach; it has been a common marketing theme of the Transformers brand (actually, every toy franchise) since its inception.

Optimus Prime

:Optimus Prime is the Autobot leader from the Robots in Disguise continuity.

Optimus Prime is a stern and serious commander, devoted to protecting freedom and innocent life. He has seen the galactic path of conquest and destruction already burned by Megatron and swears it will not include Earth. Optimus Prime often finds himself in the role of "straight man" to the more comic stylings of the other Autobots and Predacons, and tends to treat their humorous exaggerations or personality quirks as statements of straightforward fact. His subordinates view him as a great leader, if stubborn and much too prone to long speeches. Befitting his namesake, Optimus Prime's greatest weakness is his sense of nobility. If an adversary claims to have had a change of heart and discovered inner goodness, Prime will fall for it every single time.

Original Japanese Name: Fire Convoy

Fiction
Animated continuity
Robots in Disguise
Voice actor: Neil Kaplan (US), Satoshi Hashimoto (Japan), Guilherme Briggs (Brazil)

Optimus Prime was created, along with Ultra Magnus, by Alpha Trion. The two of them were raised together, and thus, saw each other as brothers. However, this relationship was torn apart after the Cybertron Civil Wars, whereupon the Matrix chose Optimus Prime to command the Autobots in stopping the Predacon leader Megatron from ravaging the universe in his quest for energy. Ultra Magnus left Cybertron that same day, bitter and spiteful of his brother.

Prime soon struck up command on Earth, where he took the form of a fire truck. Operating out of a secret base in Metro City, he and his fellow Autobots were more than ready to face Megatron and his Predacons. The conflict began when Megatron appeared in New York, attempting to kidnap the famous scientist Doctor Onishi. Optimus struck up a friendship with Onishi's son, Koji, and despite not being able to save the boy's father, vowed that he would help rescue him.

In the events that followed, Prime was forced to deal with the Predacons' many energy-grabbing schemes, either personally, or indirectly by way of helping T-AI coordinate the movement of his troops by way of the Global Space Bridge.

However, Prime soon found another threat, in the form of the Decepticons - namely, one named Scourge. Scourge was a corrupted Autobot protoform, who, in addition to being infused with Megatron's evil, scanned Optimus Prime and a tanker truck at the same time, resulting in his looking like a twisted clone of the Autobot leader. Prime hoped that Scourge and his fellow Decepticons would one day be restored to their true Autobot selves, but after the Decepticons themselves tried to use this to trick him, he decided he should not allow this to cloud his judgement.

Matters escalated when Ultra Magnus appeared on Earth, making his desire to take the Matrix from Optimus Prime known to his "brother." Optimus refused to fight Magnus, and was thus, mercilessly fired upon, until Side Burn, Prowl, and X-Brawn arrived to carry him away. Prime took refuge on a deserted island, but the Decepticons, Megatron, and Magnus both tracked him there. In the midst of the battle, Magnus forcibly activated their ability to combine into Omega Prime, intending to use it to drain Prime of his energy so he could take the Matrix, but Optimus managed to take control and use their combination to stop the Decepticons. This fusion apparently resulted in both Autobots sharing the Matrix's power, which led to Magnus's attitude softening towards his brother.

Eventually, it was revealed that Megatron's true purpose on Earth was to take control of the massive Autobot, Fortress Maximus. These events led to Megatron becoming the more powerful Galvatron, who eventually devastated the Autobot forces. In his final battle with the evil leader, Prime and Magnus combined into Omega Prime to face Galvatron at the Earth's core. They were seemingly no match for him, until Fortress Maximus sent them his power, which energized the Matrix, forming the giant weapon, the Matrix Blade. Galvatron was defeated, and with that, the Autobots' mission on Earth was finished, and Prime resolved to return to Cybertron - but not before "one last look around" with Koji and the rest of his team.

Dreamwave comic
The Robots in Disguise short story seemed intent on being part of the cartoon's continuity, but its exact placement between episodes is unclear.

With the other Autobots all engaged in other fights around the world, Optimus Prime alone was available to answer TAI's battle protocol at an experimental nuclear generator in Arizona. His opening plan was to lure the Predacons and Decepticons away from the humans to battle them at a safe distance, but his wayward brother Ultra Magnus intervened, confronting the villains head on in the middle of the generator plant. As Prime chastised Magnus for his rash action, Scourge overheard and seized on the idea to threaten the humans if the Autobots didn't stand down. Despite his anger at Optimus, Ultra Magnus remembered his Autobot training and reluctantly laid down his weapon. At the proper moment, though, the brothers managed to attack a distracted Scourge and save the humans. The Predacons and Decepticons escaped with the generator, but the humans were safe.
Trivia
* For this incarnation of Optimus, voice actor Neil Kaplan very specifically impersonated the voice of the original Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen. Uniquely, the Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime is the only Prime (up until Transformers Animated) not to be voiced by either Cullen or Gary Chalk. At conventions, Kaplan refers to himself as "the George Lazenby of Optimus Primes".

* Cybertron "Multi-Pack" Optimus Prime's on-package bio seems to indicate he's Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime. However, his (and Magnus') deco was later used in the Fun Publications Cybertron fan club magazine comic as Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime having traveled to the Unicron Trilogy universe.

* Persistent net rumors abound about early or supplemental Japanese material establishing Optimus and his Autobots being part of a "Dimensional Patrol" that follows the Predacons either back in time or from another universe. This is not supported in-show and no solid evidence supporting it has ever surfaced elsewhere.... except in the 3H supplemental materials, which established the "Dimensional Patrol" as a post-cartoon organization.

: For some reason, the Autobot symbol on his chest in Battle Mode is left unpainted.
: Spy Changer Robots In Disguise Optimus Prime was redecoed to match the larger Universe release. He came packed with a redeco of Robots In Disguise Spychanger Prowl, painted to match Generation 1 Red Alert.

:This is a six-inch tall die-cast metal and plastic version of Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime. IN vehicle mode the ladder rotates at it's base and the nozzles flip out of the end of the ladder, but the ladder cannot extend. As he is much simplified compared to the larger toy, the (largely hollow) front of the vehicle cannot seperate and form the standard robot more, nor can the rear of the vehicle form the battlestation. Instead, the entire fire truck transforms into simplified version of the super robot Battle Mode.
