'''Hi-Test''' is an overachieving perfectionist with the brains and determination to accomplish incredible things. But when his partner [[Hi-Q|Hi-Q's]] accomplishments exceeded his own, Hi-Test's pride was injured. He became the [[Powermaster]] partner of the [[Decepticon]] [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]], enabling him to experience new worlds and thrills he'd never dreamed of.

As a Powermaster, Hi-Test has been bio-engineered to transform into Dreadwind's engine, vastly increasing his power as well as allowing him to fuel himself on human foodstuffs. The process granted Hi-Test enormously increased strength, however it has also made he and Dreadwind interdependent- they must link up on a semi-regular basis in order to survive. If Hi-Test removes his external armor he can pass for a Caucasian human. <small>(In some continuities.)</small>

When it was Hi-Q's breakthrough, not his own, that allowed the [[Council of Peers]] to poision all fuel on Nebulos for Transformers, Hi-Test walked out, vowing to prove Hi-Q was a fraud.

Hi-Test had a plan to get even. He picked up the thief [[Throttle (G1)|Throttle]] in a bar to serve as his new partner, and had him steal Hi-Q's research data on fuel conversion. A (self-admittedly) low-life thief, '''Throttle''' revels in his chosen profession and loves mixing with society's dregs. Throttle sees this as simple honesty and appreciates that in others. If he doesn't like you, he'll tell you in no uncertain terms. With Throttle, what you see is what you get. While his [[Powermaster]] partner [[Darkwing]] may disagree, the pair get on well because of that honesty. Sure the [[Decepticon]] may be a pessimist, but at least he doesn't pretend to be anything he's not.

The only serious issue in their relationship is Throttle's hotheaded and reckless nature in combat, the Nebulan is so keen to out do [[Dreadwind]] and [[Hi-Test]] that he has a tendency to over-exert himself and overheat, robbing Darkwing of power just when he needs it the most.

A hot-headed thief, Throttle was recruited by the Hi-Test to serve as his new partner to allow the scientist to get even with his former friend [[Hi-Q]]. Following Hi-Test's instructions, Throttle stole Hi-Q's research data on fuel conversion. A member of [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]'s crew aboard [[Steelhaven]], Landmine volunteered for the synthoplasmic conversion process [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] had stolen from [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], transforming him into an Autobot [[Pretender]]. With Optimus Prime coordinating the Pretenders' first battle with the Decepticons, Landmine and his teammates easily overwhelmed the opposing force. {{Storylink|Pretender to the Throne!}}

After a large number of Autobot troops were critically damaged [[Dark Star|battling]] [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], Optimus Prime sent Landmine and [[Cloudburst]] to buy medical supplies. They were to go to [[Grand Central Space Station]] and purchase 500 million microchips, necessary components for rebuilding their fallen comrades. The two Pretenders were chosen for the mission due to their outer human shells, as robots weren't welcome at Grand Central.

Canvassing the area at the [[Black Hole Bar and Grill]], Landmine got them involved in a bar fight trying to defend a [[Chromite]] from some angry robophobic patrons. They were beaten, however, and the Chromite was tossed out the airlock. After Cloudburst smoothed things over with the bartender, [[J'oh]], they left to find a reliable source of microchips. They supposedly found this through two brokers (the disguised [[Throttle (G1)|Throttle]] and [[Hi-Test]]). The deal seemed sound, but a human named [[Berko]] mentioned how his Autobot friend [[Sky Lynx]] suddenly went missing after trying to deal with those the two brokers.

With the idea of saving a potentially endangered fellow Autobot in mind, Landmine insisted on bypassing the middlemen and meeting the sellers directly. Cloudburst was extremely reluctant, but not to worry — Landmine had a plan. Remote-guiding their two outer shells into the meeting, they met with the hungry [[Mecannibals]]. The disguised Autobots arranged to pay for 500 million microchips. However, they also learned that the Mecannibals were about to eat Sky Lynx. Landmine's inner robot burst in at that moment, assaulting the Mecannibals and freeing Sky Lynx. He then set off a flash of light to hide the moment when his robot mode entered his shell to hide.

Having successfully acquired their goods and freed a fellow Autobot in the process, Landmine and Cloudburst were sitting pretty. The only remaining glitch was how the hiding Sky Lynx would be able to return to Grand Central to retrieve his friend Berko without being caught. Fortunately, Landmine had a plan. Amuch less suvccessful plan. He grabbed Berko by the collar and tossed him into an alleyway so that he and Cloudburst could reveal themselves as Autobots in privacy. It wasn't total privacy, though — the Mecannibals' brokers saw this revelation, and managed to deliver the two Autobots to their bosses. {{storylink|Guess Who the Mecannibals are Having for Dinner?}}

Things weren't looking too well for them until Cloudburst managed to negotiate their release from the Mecannibals, in exchange for hunting down some rare crystals on the planet [[Femax]]. They found their entrance to the mountain kingdom being blocked by a solid steel door. Landmine had a plan, and -- despite the nervous tick Cloudburst was starting to get everytime he heard those words -- they easily bypassed the door by having Landmine tunnel through the mountain itself using the astro-blasting power of his vehicle mode.

After Landmine and Cloudburst proved to the Femaxians their good intentions, skill in battle, and most importantly their ability to forgive and forget a certain beheading ([[Recipe for Disaster!|don't ask]]), they finally got ahold of the crystals they needed and returned to the Mecannibals' ship. In the end, however, their consciences got the best of them and they did not leave with the microchips as per the deal. Instead, the Pretenders insisted the Mecannibals rebuild the robots they had "recycled" into the microchips and raw materials they were selling. Their Autobot comrades simply wouldn't have wanted to be revived at the cost of others. {{storylink|Recipe for Disaster!}}

Sometime later, Landmine was the first Autobot to be deactivated battling [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]] and his newly-found power while possessing the [[Creation Matrix|Matrix]]. : Landmine's outer Pretender shell resembles a human in a yellow and gray armoured space suit, armed with a gray sword and a gray blaster rifle. The shell's helmet and front-half of the belt are also removable, used to help "lock" the shell-halves together. This shell has very limited articulation, located in his shoulders.

Landmine's inner robot has good articulation for the period he was released in, owing to his relatively simple transformation and design. The robot transforms into a predominantly gray Cybertronic mining vehicle. The gray rifle can be stored on the top of this mode.

Landmine and Cloudburst were summoned by Optimus Prime shortly after the Autobots' devastating battle with [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] during the [[Dark Star|Underbase Saga]]. The battle had burnt out a large number of microchips from the deactivated warriors {{m-}} 500 million to be exact. Optimus charged the two Pretenders with negotiating for new microchips at the biggest black market in the galaxy, [[Grand Central Space Station]]. Because of Grand Central's reputation for being violently unwelcoming to robots, it was Prime's hope that Cloudburst and Landmine's organic shells would allow them to accomplish the mission unimpeded. The pair set off riding in Cloudburst's [[Scale|massive]] starfighter mode.

At Grand Central, they made contact with a disguised [[Hi-Test]] and [[Throttle (G1)|Throttle]], Nebulan [[Powermaster]]s who were keeping their robot ties quiet in order to operate freely on the station. Cloudburst arranged a deal to exchange their energon cube currency for the 500 million microchips. It would've gone smoothly from there, but Landmine received information that a fellow Autobot named [[Sky Lynx]] might have gotten into trouble after dealing with these two, and demanded to deal with the Nebulans' sponsors, the [[Mecannibal]]s, directly.

Aboard the Mecannibals' ship, Cloudburst sealed the deal with their leader [[Master Mouth]]. The Autobots were horrified to discover, however, that the Mecannibals came by their trade goods by ''eating'' robots, and then "recycling" their remains for resale. What's worse, Sky Lynx was apparently next on the menu. Landmine wouldn't stand for it, and operated his robot form independent of his shell to save Sky Lynx and fool the Mecannibals into believing his two parts were unrelated to one another. After freeing Sky Lynx and fending off the Attack of the Killer Robot Tomatoes, Landmine succeeded in distracting the Mecannibals long enough to hide inside his organic shell and therefore "escape". Unfortunately, their good luck didn't last. Cloudburst and Landmine's true identities were uncovered by the Nebulans, and they captured and returned the Pretenders to the Mecannibals to be eaten. {{storylink|Guess Who the Mecannibals are Having for Dinner?}}

With some quick thinking, Cloudburst explained to Master Mouth that they were simply too bland to be eaten without seasoning, and offered to go acquire the proper ingredients to make a real gourmet robo-recipe in exchange for their freedom. This...unusual strategy worked, and the Mecannibals released the Autobots on their word to track down a supply of lead sulfate crystals on the planet [[Femax]] to top off the seasonings.

After penetrating the inner mountain city of the Femax warriors, Cloudburst and Landmine were captured and brought before their ruler, the [[First One]]. Cloudburst managed to defuse the tension caused by Landmine's inherent hostility, convincing the Femaxians that they were only there on a mission of mercy. The First One decreed that, before the crystals could be handed over, Cloudburst must back his words in battle in order to prove himself a valued mate...er, MATErial tradesman. Cloudburst successfully passed the various tests of stamina, agility, wrestling, jousting, ballroom dancing, and the talent competition.

Having never seen a man smart enough to rub two sticks together before, she considered Cloudburst to be quite the specimen. When she tried to put the moves on him though, Cloudburst had to ruin the moment by revealing that (cue musical score) ''Pretennnnders Hide...The Transformers Inside''. Not even a catchy commercial jingle like that was enough to calm the First One's fury, though, and in her disgust she lobbed off Cloudburst's head with one strike of her sword.

Luckily for Cloudburst, Landmine managed to stay level-headed enough to try to talk down the First One instead of fighting back. After her initial emotional outburst cooled, the First One accepted the "rejection" of her affections and repaired Cloudburst, allowing the Autobots to peacefully leave her realm with the crystals. They fulfilled their deal with the Mecannibals, and as a bonus informed them that their Nebulan employees were actually Decepticon Powermaster robots, giving Hi-Test and Throttle some serious trouble. Unfortunately for their overall mission, though, Cloudburst and Landmine found it too unconscionable to repair their comrades with the cannibalized remains of other robots. Instead, they renegotiated their bargain with the Mecannibals, convincing them to use the microchips to repair and revive the victims they had "recycled" for parts. The Pretenders returned to the Ark empty-handed, but with clear consciences. {{storylink|Recipe for Disaster!}}

Sometime later, during the battle with [[Unicron]], Cloudburst joined his fellow flyers [[Highbrow]], [[Darkwing]], and [[Dreadwind (G1)|Dreadwind]] in taking the fight to Unicron's eye level. Whenever the Predacons appeared, it was pretty well a given that Predaking would soon follow. Though utterly gigantic and menacing, Predaking was basically a paper tiger, easily beaten off every time he appeared. He could sometimes generate windstorms.

Predaking and [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] were frequent adversaries, with the egotistical Autobot usually the victor of their encounters.

On the [[Moon]], Predaking fought alongside [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcon]] combiner [[Abominus]] until they, along with the other 'primative' animal-based Transformers, were called away by [[Oracle (G1)|Primacron's Assistant]]. They were led to an ancient world, in the hopes their primative instincts would defeat [[Primacron]]'s latest creation, the energy-draining [[Tornadron]]. After the defeated [[Trypticon]]'s corpse seemingly crushed [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], the primatives split up and ran for their lives. The Predacons continued to run until Headstrong declared he would rather stand and fight than die running. ==Synopsis==
Optimus Prime sends Landmine and Cloudburst on a mission to secure microchips from the black market on Grand Central Space Station, where robots are not welcome. The Pretenders soon find dealers, not realizing that dealers are actually Nebulan Powermasters Hi-Test and Throttle. They also discover that a fellow Autobot, Sky Lynx, has recently been to the station, but who went missing soon after Sky Lynx's partner, Berko, attempted to make a deal with the shady pair. Landmine attempts to recover Sky Lynx by insisting that the "dealers" take them to the suppliers directly. Hi-Test and Throttle agree, and the Pretenders soon find themselves face to face with the Mecannibals, who agree to do business while consuming the imprisoned Sky Lynx.

Landmine's inner robot form, which had stayed outside at the beginning of the "deal," arrives to free Sky Lynx, who escapes, and Landmine's inner robot recombines with his outer shell in the confusion, unseen by the Mecannibals. They complete the deal for the microchips, and return to the space station. All would be well if the Pretenders didn't decide to reveal themselves to Berko afterward. This is seen by Hi-Test and Throttle, who notify the bartender, J'oh. The Pretenders are quickly overwhelmed by the station's robot-hating populace, and are shoved out of an airlock. Before Landmine and Cloudburst can re-orient themselves, they are knocked out by Dreadwing, and transported back to the Mecannibals. It seems that the Mecannibals are eager to replace the meal they just lost, and two Autobots in synthetic flesh shells will do just fine!

The '''Savage Land''' is a secret jungle paradise on the coast of Antarctica that is home to many monstrous, prehistoric creatures. [[Ratchet]] travelled there to retrieve the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]], who had fallen there battling [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] 4 million years ago.

It is not, however, [[Dinobot Island]]. That's a different secret jungle paradise that is home to many monstrous, prehistoric creatures.

The Savage Land was mentioned as part of the origin of the Dinobots very early in the Marvel Comics Transformers series, during the brief period of time in which the Transformers comic took place in the main Marvel Universe. The Savage Land of the mainstream Marvel Universe first appeared in the ''X-Men'' comic in the 1960s, and is sustained by alien technology. The explanation for the existence of a jungle full of dinosaurs in Antarctica in the Transformers comic continuity is unknown, but is presumably similar.

==Synopsis==
Having acquired Optimus Prime's mind on a disc, the Autobots on [[Steelhaven]] were attempting to build a new body for the Autobot leader, and failing. Realising they didn't have the resources to rebuild Prime they approached Grimlock, leader of the Autobots on Earth.

Grimlock didn't want to help, and instead demanded Fortress Maximus hand over the fugitive Goldbug. Once he had Golbug he challenged Fortress Maximus to one-on-one battle for the leadership of the Autobots.

In the brig Goldbug found Blaster, strapped to an energy-sucking [[variable voltage harness]]. Goldbug talked Blaster into fighting in the injured Fortress Maximus' place.

On the Earth's moon the Autobots assembled, the crews from both the Ark and the Steelhaven, to watch Grimlock and Blaster fight it out.

The battle soon drew Blaster and Grimlock away from the rest of the Autobots. This was rather unfortunate because Ratbat's Decepticons had been watching and chose this moment to attack the Autobots' combined forces.

Onslaught lead the Decepticon assault on the Autobots, while Bonecrusher (!) lead the Constructicons in an attack on the Ark, to retrieve Decepticon prisoners

Without strong leadership, the Autobots were losing the battle, so (rather than taking command) Fortress Maximus ordered the skeleton crew on the Steelhaven to depart the moon to get some help in rebuilding Optimus Prime.

Grimlock and Blaster were still fighting when Blaster noticed the battle going on far in the ditance. Setting their differences aside, the two Autobots rejoined the battle. Working together Grimlock and Blaster managed to turn back the Decepticons and damaged their ship enough to force a full Decepticon retreat.

*Helicopters should not be able to fly in a vacuum, but obviously no one ever told Vortex. (Okay, I guess planes can't fly in vacuum, either...)

*Unlike in the cartoon, writer Bob Budiansky always made sure sound didn't travel in space sequences in the Transformers comics. To this end there's no 'sound effects' during the entire 13 page moon battle sequence. The Transformers used radio to communicate over these pages.

:This even plays a part in the plot -- Grimlock and Blaster don't notice the Decepticon attack on their fellows immediately because they can't hear the battle.

It is possible that the ''Cybertron'' animated series is a sequel to the unfinished [[Energon (comic)|''Energon'' comic book series]] from [[Dreamwave]]. Unsubstantiated rumors state that [[Hasbro]] wanted the ''Energon'' animated series to end in a specific way, but when it turned out this would not be the case, it was decided that ''Cybertron'' would instead follow the ''Energon'' comic book, which, for some reason, they must have had more editorial control over. This rumor would probably be completely without merit if not for a few details:

* [[Scorponok (Energon)|Dark Scorponok]]'s packaging bio references the death he had in the comic book series, not the death he had in the cartoon.

* The [[Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club (comic)|''Cybertron'' comic]] published in the fan club magazine, written by Hasbro, is clearly taking place in the same universe as the Cybertron cartoon series. However, [[Downshift (Energon)|Downshift]] seems to recall events that occurred only in the comic book and not in the cartoon. This idea is not without problems. While Dark Scorponok's packaging bio appears to reference events of the ''Energon'' comic book series, [[Wing Saber]]'s references events of the ''Energon'' animated series. Additionally, Hasbro material presents many explanations for contradictions between the previous series and the current cartoon. Why explain why [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] sounds different if we've never heard the comic book version? Why have [[Vector Prime]] attempt to reconcile inconsistencies by claiming they were caused by temporal disturbances created by the [[Unicron Singularity]]?

On the other hand, it is possible that the ''Cybertron'' cartoon takes place in a universe where it follows the ''Energon'' cartoon, but an ''Energon'' cartoon that includes major events from the ''Energon'' comic book. (This "amalgamated" approach towards backstory was also used by the ''[[Beast Wars]]'' cartoon.)

Until further evidence is presented, it's impossible to say. The ambiguity may be intentional, and, as such, the question may never be resolved.

A facsimile Optimus Prime was once buried when the Earth-bound Autobots believed it to be the real Optimus. It has a number of moons (at least three). It began its existence circling a binary star in Alpha Centauri, but, in many continuities, has left that orbit.

==Generation 1==
===Marvel Comics===

Here, Cybertron was the adopted form of [[Primus]]. This origin of the planet states that Primus trapped himself and [[Unicron]] in barren asteriods which they then shaped into their physical forms. In this continuity it does not seem that Primus designed his body to transform as it can in some others, but rather simply to be homeworld to his creations.

Cybertron in this continuity is [[Scale|roughly Saturn-sized]], as stated in the first issue. There are a number of difficulties with this, although we could chalk up all the improbabilities to Primus, who is a god after all.

====Significant Locations====

Cybertron is organized into city-states, the largest and most important being [[Iacon]]. Others include Helix, Kalis, [[Kaon]], [[Polyhex]], [[Tarn]], and [[Vos]].

Beneath the sewers the [[Demons in the Darkness]] are locked away.

At the center of this Cybertron there is a room with a Huge head of Primus on the wall where he sleeps and is watched over by the [[Keeper]].

===Animated Series===

As presented in the [[Generation 1]] animated series, Cybertron appeared [[Scale|considerably smaller than the planet Earth]]. Entirely metallic on the surface, some of the lowest levels of Cybertron consisted of rock and dirt, suggesting an organic beginning to the planet. Its gravity is light enough that humans are able to traverse the surface without any trouble, and it possesses a breathable atmosphere. Water, or at least a substance resembling it, is in evidence on the planet - lake and rivers have been shown to exist, albeit sparingly. Many levels below the surface is the energy-furnace, the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]], and at the heart of the planet is the spherical mega-computer, [[Vector Sigma]]. Cybertron is orbited by at least two unnamed moons, but its own place in the cosmos appears unfixed - in [[1984]], it was clearly shown to exist outside of the [[Milky Way]] galaxy; however, nine million years prior, [[Starscream]] and [[Jetfire|Skyfire]] had been able to fly from the planet to Earth under their own power, suggesting that it may drift freely through space, and had been passing through the Sol System at that point, going on to drift out of the galaxy over the ensuing millennia.

If the assorted colourful exclamations made by numerous Transformers are anything to go by, Cybertron also plays host to a vast array of fauna, including but not limited to: ant-droids, [[bolt-bat]]s, cyber-ducks, [[Dynametal duck|dynametal ducks]], electro-toads, glitch-mice, guineapigatrons, helio-hamsters, hydro-weasels, photovoltaic pussycats, retro-rats, robo-rats, sheepacrons, titanium moose-bots, turbo-foxes, zap-mice and [[robotopossum]]s.

In its earliest recorded days, twelve million years ago, Cybertron was a factory used by the multi-faced aliens the [[Quintesson]]s to manufacture their robot creations. Notably, the origins of the planet are never explicitly stated - the Quintessons may have built it, xenoformed an organic world, or colonised an existing metal planet. Whatever the case, after a million years, the Quintessons were forced to abandon Cybertron when their robots evolved true sentience and feelings, and knew they were being used as slaves, rebelling in the First Cybertonian War. The second war was soon to come, however, when the robots splintered into two factions - the peace-loving [[Autobot|Autobots]] and the war-mongering [[Decepticons]] - and began fighting amongst themselves. With the Autobots' innovation of transformation, they were able to win - or at least stalemate - the war, and a period of peace descended on Cybertron, which shone with a healthy golden glow, distinguishing the period as the "Golden Age."

Eventually, however, Decepticons adopted transformation as well, along with robot-mode flight powers, and around nine million years ago, the creation of the Decepticon [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] re-ignited the war on Cybertron. Megatron rallied like-minded individuals to his cause, and brainwashed others into his service, quickly killing the current Autobot leader in a strke on one of Iacon's outer cities. With this act kept out of the public knowledge, rumours circulated as Autobot machinesmith [[Alpha Trion]] worked dilligently on a new process to reconstruct Autobots into battle-hardy configurations for the war he knew was coming. That war finally erupted in full when Megatron fatally injured a naive young dock worker, [[Orion Pax]], and Alpha Trion made him the first subject of his new process, reconstructing him into [[Optimus Prime]], who would lead the Autobots in the Third Cybertronian War.

After a further five million years of war, during which many Autobots fled the planet, the Decepticons had acquired a large hold on the planet, with the majority of it under their control. The main Autobot force continued to operate from the capital city-state of Iacon, but Cybertron's energy levels were depleted to a dangerous low, necessitating a space mission to locate a new planet with new sources of energy that the Transformers could harness. Optimus Prime led his best and brightest on [[Ark (G1)|The Ark]], but they were pursued by Megatron's elite troops, and all were stranded in stasis on Earth for four million years.

In the ensuing four million years, Shockwave, who Megatron had left in charge as guardian of the planet, maintained the Decepticon hold on the planet, though he was unaware of the continued guerilla efforts of [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]]'s [[Female Autobots]] to undermine him as they raided his energy supplies. Eventually, Cybertron's energy level dipped so low as to put the planet in immediate, mortal danger. Re-establishing contact with Megatron, who had awoken with the other Transformers on Earth in the year 1984, Shockwave co-designed the [[Space Bridge]], an intergalactic transport system that could transport [[Energon]] Cubes from Earth to Cybertron, abating the planet's impending doom.

Cybertron's place in the universe was forcibly altered in 1984 when the Decepticons constructed a colossal Space Bridge that actually transported the entire planet into the Sol system, into Earth's orbit, where its gravity wreaked havoc with the planet's natural balance, unleashing an uneding torrent of energy created by natural disasters. The energy acquired re-energised Cybertron enough to put it out of the danger zone, but the planet was soon knocked out of orbit by a massive Energon explosion, and set drifting off through the solar system. At this closer ranger, Cybertron remained easily accessed throughout 1985 at least, with the Autobots now able to reach it by conventional transportation ([[Omega Supreme]]), rather than having to constantly hijack use of the spacebridge.

By the Earth year 2005, Cybertron had exited the Sol system, but, remaining within the Milky Way, was still relatively easily accessible by shuttlecraft from Earth. By this time, the Decepticon forces had succeeded in conquering the entire planet, forcing all the Autobots off it, leading them to relocate to [[Autobot City]] on Earth, and to two staging ground bases on two of Cybertron's moons. It was at this time that Cybertron came under attack from the world-eater, [[Unicron]], who consumed the two moonbases and assaulted Cybertron itself, only to be destroyed by the power of the [[Matrix_of_Leadership|Autobot Matrix of Leadership]]. His deactivated, decapitated head fell into orbit around Cybertron, a grisly new satellite to replace those he had destroyed. With the Decepticon forces in disarray after Unicron's attack, [[Rodimus Prime]] and his troops succeeded in driving their foes off Cybertron, reclaiming the planet for the Autobots, restoring and re-energising much of the planet by 2006, when the world came under frequent attacks from the returning Quintessons, whose previously-secret history with the Transformers came to light.

In the year 2007, Cybertron was once again wrenched from its place in space when [[Galvatron]] and the Decepticons invaded the planet and constructed a massive planetary engine that propelled Cybertron back into Earth orbit once more. Once there, Galvatron opened the Plasma Energy Chamber, intending for the energy release to drive the Sun supernova, consuming Earth, Cybertron and everything else in one final destructive blow. [[Spike Witwicky]] and the Autobots' [[Nebulan]] allies were able to stop this plan by reversing the rocket engine, which drained off the excess solar energy and channeled it straight into Vector Sigma, which used it to full re-energise Cybertron. Its rich golden hue restored, Cybertron entered a new Golden Age.

====Japanese continuity====
While the American ''Transformers'' series was concluded with the three-part miniseries, "[[The Rebirth]]", depicting the 2007 events noted above, in Japan it was opted to continue the series, and so "The Rebirth" was disregarded in favour of producing ''[[Headmasters (cartoon)|Transformers: The Headmasters]]'', a full-length 35-episode series set in the year 2011.

In 2011, it was discovered that the release of the energy of the Matrix by Optimus Prime to cure the [[Hate Plague]] had much more far-reaching consequences that anyone suspected. With the Matrix's energy depleted, Vector Sigma's balance - permanently tilted in favour of the Autobots by the existence of the Matrix - was reset to neutrality, allowing the Decepticons, bolstered by their new [[Headmaster]] troops, to freely invade Cybertron ''(known as '''Seibertron''' in Japan)''. Eventually, this forced Optimus Prime to sacrifice his life by merging with Vector Sigma in order to stabilise the computer before it destroyed Cybertron from within.

Not long thereafter, Vector Sigma developed a new metal alloy dubbed Cybertonuron, which enticed Galvatron into another raid on the planet. However, the Decepticon Headmaster leader, [[Zarak]], feared the power that Galvatron would gain from the alloy, and so, to prevent either him or the Autobots from obtaining it, arranged for his Headmasters to plant bombs at the core of the planet, within Vector Sigma's chamber. The Autobots were unable to stop the countdown and the bombs detonating, tearing Cybertron apart and leaving it a charred uninhabitable ruin drifting in space.

[[Six Lasers Over Cybertron]] is an amusement park found there in this era. Among the examples of cultural refinement are some joints where the servers go around without their torso plates on.

[[Beast Machines]] returned to Cybertron, and likewise described it as once a natural world, hosting organic life (including gigantic bat and eagle-like creatures). Some of that life was apparently sentient since the [[Oracle]] computer foretold the coming of robots to the planet. What exactly happened to this world remains a mystery, though it could also be theorized that the [[Quintesson]]s terraformed and converted the planet to the entirely robotic/metallic city-world we know. The only remains of organic life were a few remnants of plant life far, far below, and a strange green organic ooze buried deep beneath the rocky core of the world that had the ability to enhance the life force of any living thing and super-charge organic growth.

The presence of fossilised animal remains and bones deep in the planet's interior has not yet been given an official explanation. It remains a mystery as to how Nightscream was able to not only copy a bat's anatomy, but also extract DNA unless of course it was coincidence that such a similar lifeform could have existed on Cybertron in an organic state millenia before. However, the chances of finding intact DNA after such a length of time makes this suggestion highly improbable.

At the end of Beast Machines the planet was transformed into a new [[Technorganic]] state.

In the Unicron Trilogy's animated continuity, Cybertron is revealed to be the body of [[Primus]]. Much like the versions of Cybertron before it, it is a metallic planet that is damaged by conflict. Cybertron existed in an unnamed system until the ''Energon'' series, where it was pulled from orbit and pushed into another part of space (or universe) that [[Alpha Quintesson]] had created.

In ''Energon'', Cybertron was equipped with a system of [[Energon Tower]]s that could surround the planet with a protective field, which has since been disabled due to Decepticon attack.

Eventually, however, Decepticons adopted transformation as well, along with robot-mode flight powers, and around nine million years ago, the creation of the Decepticon [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] re-ignited the war on Cybertron. Megatron rallied like-minded individuals to his cause, and brainwashed others into his service, quickly killing the current Autobot leader in a strke on one of Iacon's outer cities. With this act kept out of the public knowledge, rumours circulated as Autobot machinesmith [[Alpha Trion]] worked dilligently on a new process to reconstruct Autobots into battle-hardy configurations for the war he knew was coming. That war finally erupted in full when Megatron fatally injured a naive young dock worker, [[Orion Pax]], and Alpha Trion made him the first subject of his new process, reconstructing him into [[Optimus Prime]], who would lead the Autobots in the Third Cybertronian War.

After a further five million years of war, during which many Autobots fled the planet, the Decepticons had acquired a large hold on the planet, with the majority of it under their control. The main Autobot force continued to operate from the capital city-state of Iacon, but Cybertron's energy levels were depleted to a dangerous low, necessitating a space mission to locate a new planet with new sources of energy that the Transformers could harness. Optimus Prime led his best and brightest on [[Ark (G1)|The Ark]], but they were pursued by Megatron's elite troops, and all were stranded in stasis on Earth for four million years.

In the ensuing four million years, Shockwave, who Megatron had left in charge as guardian of the planet, maintained the Decepticon hold on the planet, though he was unaware of the continued guerilla efforts of [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]]'s [[Female Autobots]] to undermine him as they raided his energy supplies. Eventually, Cybertron's energy level dipped so low as to put the planet in immediate, mortal danger. Re-establishing contact with Megatron, who had awoken with the other Transformers on Earth in the year 1984, Shockwave co-designed the [[Space Bridge]], an intergalactic transport system that could transport [[Energon]] Cubes from Earth to Cybertron, abating the planet's impending doom.

Cybertron's place in the universe was forcibly altered in 1984 when the Decepticons constructed a colossal Space Bridge that actually transported the entire planet into the Sol system, into Earth's orbit, where its gravity wreaked havoc with the planet's natural balance, unleashing an uneding torrent of energy created by natural disasters. The energy acquired re-energised Cybertron enough to put it out of the danger zone, but the planet was soon knocked out of orbit by a massive Energon explosion, and set drifting off through the solar system. At this closer ranger, Cybertron remained easily accessed throughout 1985 at least, with the Autobots now able to reach it by conventional transportation ([[Omega Supreme]]), rather than having to constantly hijack use of the spacebridge.

By the Earth year 2005, Cybertron had exited the Sol system, but, remaining within the Milky Way, was still relatively easily accessible by shuttlecraft from Earth. By this time, the Decepticon forces had succeeded in conquering the entire planet, forcing all the Autobots off it, leading them to relocate to [[Autobot City]] on Earth, and to two staging ground bases on two of Cybertron's moons. It was at this time that Cybertron came under attack from the world-eater, [[Unicron]], who consumed the two moonbases and assaulted Cybertron itself, only to be destroyed by the power of the [[Matrix_of_Leadership|Autobot Matrix of Leadership]]. His deactivated, decapitated head fell into orbit around Cybertron, a grisly new satellite to replace those he had destroyed. With the Decepticon forces in disarray after Unicron's attack, [[Rodimus Prime]] and his troops succeeded in driving their foes off Cybertron, reclaiming the planet for the Autobots, restoring and re-energising much of the planet by 2006, when the world came under frequent attacks from the returning Quintessons, whose previously-secret history with the Transformers came to light.

In the year 2007, Cybertron was once again wrenched from its place in space when [[Galvatron]] and the Decepticons invaded the planet and constructed a massive planetary engine that propelled Cybertron back into Earth orbit once more. Once there, Galvatron opened the Plasma Energy Chamber, intending for the energy release to drive the Sun supernova, consuming Earth, Cybertron and everything else in one final destructive blow. [[Spike Witwicky]] and the Autobots' [[Nebulan]] allies were able to stop this plan by reversing the rocket engine, which drained off the excess solar energy and channeled it straight into Vector Sigma, which used it to full re-energise Cybertron. Its rich golden hue restored, Cybertron entered a new Golden Age.

While the American ''Transformers'' series was concluded with the three-part miniseries, "[[The Rebirth]]", depicting the 2007 events noted above, in Japan it was opted to continue the series, and so "The Rebirth" was disregarded in favour of producing ''[[Headmasters (cartoon)|Transformers: The Headmasters]]'', a full-length 35-episode series set in the year 2011.

In 2011, it was discovered that the release of the energy of the Matrix by Optimus Prime to cure the [[Hate Plague]] had much more far-reaching consequences that anyone suspected. With the Matrix's energy depleted, Vector Sigma's balance - permanently tilted in favour of the Autobots by the existence of the Matrix - was reset to neutrality, allowing the Decepticons, bolstered by their new [[Headmaster]] troops, to freely invade Cybertron ''(known as '''Seibertron''' in Japan)''. Eventually, this forced Optimus Prime to sacrifice his life by merging with Vector Sigma in order to stabilise the computer before it destroyed Cybertron from within.

Not long thereafter, Vector Sigma developed a new metal alloy dubbed Cybertonuron, which enticed Galvatron into another raid on the planet. However, the Decepticon Headmaster leader, [[Zarak]], feared the power that Galvatron would gain from the alloy, and so, to prevent either him or the Autobots from obtaining it, arranged for his Headmasters to plant bombs at the core of the planet, within Vector Sigma's chamber. The Autobots were unable to stop the countdown and the bombs detonating, tearing Cybertron apart and leaving it a charred uninhabitable ruin drifting in space.

[[Six Lasers Over Cybertron]] is an amusement park found there in this era. Among the examples of cultural refinement are some joints where the servers go around without their torso plates on.

[[Beast Machines]] returned to Cybertron, and likewise described it as once a natural world, hosting organic life (including gigantic bat and eagle-like creatures). Some of that life was apparently sentient since the [[Oracle]] computer foretold the coming of robots to the planet. What exactly happened to this world remains a mystery, though it could also be theorized that the [[Quintesson]]s terraformed and converted the planet to the entirely robotic/metallic city-world we know. The only remains of organic life were a few remnants of plant life far, far below, and a strange green organic ooze buried deep beneath the rocky core of the world that had the ability to enhance the life force of any living thing and super-charge organic growth.

The presence of fossilised animal remains and bones deep in the planet's interior has not yet been given an official explanation. It remains a mystery as to how Nightscream was able to not only copy a bat's anatomy, but also extract DNA unless of course it was coincidence that such a similar lifeform could have existed on Cybertron in an organic state millenia before. However, the chances of finding intact DNA after such a length of time makes this suggestion highly improbable.

Cybertron existed in an unnamed system until the ''Energon'' series, where it was pulled from orbit and pushed into another part of space (or universe) that [[Alpha Quintesson]] had created.

Cybertron has an atmosphere, but it was unbreathable by Earth life forms as when [[Rad White|Rad]], [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]] and [[Alexis]] visited the planet in 2010, they required spacesuits to operate on the surface; by 2020, however, humans were capable of surviving without specialised suits, indicating that an oxygen/nitrogen-based atmopshere may have somehow been generated by the planet or created by transformers or humans artificially.

In the ''Cybertron'' series, much of the planet had been repaired, including the construction of a "[[Sky Dome]]" headquarters where important meetings are held. This structure housed the artifacts that were used to mount the [[Omega Lock]], which unlocks the robot form of Cybertron.

Cybertron in this continuity is [[Scale|roughly Saturn-sized]], as stated in the first issue. There are a number of difficulties with this, although we could chalk up all the improbabilities to Primus, who is a god after all.

Its gravity is light enough that humans are able to traverse the surface without any trouble, and it possesses a breathable atmosphere. Water, or at least a substance resembling it, is in evidence on the planet - lake and rivers have been shown to exist, albeit sparingly. Many levels below the surface is the energy-furnace, the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]], and at the heart of the planet is the spherical mega-computer, [[Vector Sigma]]. Cybertron is orbited by at least two unnamed moons, but its own place in the cosmos appears unfixed - in [[1984]], it was clearly shown to exist outside of the [[Milky Way]] galaxy; however, nine million years prior, [[Starscream]] and [[Jetfire|Skyfire]] had been able to fly from the planet to Earth under their own power, suggesting that it may drift freely through space, and had been passing through the Sol System at that point, going on to drift out of the galaxy over the ensuing millennia.

Deep within the core is a pool of [[Super Energon]] that was once guarded by the four ancient combiners, [[Constructicon Maximus]], and [[Bruticus Maximus]], [[Superion Maximus]], and his unnamed brother.

At the end of the ''Energon'' series, Cybertron was granted a new sun when Primus trapped Unicron's spark within a ball of Super Energon, igniting it. This sun would eventually colapse, becoming the [[Unicron Singularity]].

It is unknown how large Cybertron is in this continuity, but it is most likely [[Scale|the size of Earth or smaller]]. Cybertron has an atmosphere, but it was unbreathable by Earth life forms as when [[Rad White|Rad]], [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]] and [[Alexis]] visited the planet in 2010, they required spacesuits to operate on the surface; by 2020, however, humans were capable of surviving without specialised suits, indicating that an oxygen/nitrogen-based atmopshere may have somehow been generated by the planet or created by transformers or humans artificially.

In the ''Cybertron'' series, much of the planet had been repaired, including the construction of a "[[Sky Dome]]" headquarters where important meetings are held. This structure housed the artifacts that were used to mount the [[Omega Lock]], which unlocks the robot form of Cybertron.

There are limitations to what can be painted on a toy. Some plastics used in the Transformers' construction [[unpaintable plastic|cannot hold paint]] properly, so they must remain wholly the color they were cast, unless a sticker is used.

Also, the number of paint applications is often given a maximum "do not exceed" number to keep costs within a certain range. This number is usually predetermined on the basis of size class. For instance, every Deluxe sized figure of a given line will have the same number of paint applications as all the other Deluxe figures. And it may take more paint applications to cover a part than at first thought: simply painting the outer surface of a cylinder may take two to four applications, and then another for the ends, if desired.

Cheetor, on recon patrol, spots a giant stasis pod (labelled with a big yellow "X") crashed inside a patch of unstable [[energon]] deep inside a murky swamp. Optimus Primal and Silverbolt meet him beside the pod, and Primal tells them what the pod means. The stasis pod held "the dark secret of [[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'s journey," Protoform X. Protoform X was created in experiments to make a Transformer [[spark]] that could not die, but the subject was treacherous and insane, so the Axalon was to dump the protoform "somewhere far, someplace barren."

Blackarachnia and Waspinator attack, attempting to take Protoform X for themselves. Attacking Silverbolt, Blackarachnia is angry that his code of honor won't allow him to fight back, hitting a female. But Tarantulas arrives and threatens her. Silverbolt defends her, but the battle accidentally ignites the energon beneath Protoform X's stasis pod, which explodes and triggers an energon storm which scatters everyone for miles.

Blackarachnia and Silverbolt crash-land next to each other. They agree to work together, as they are far from their respective teams and Silverbolt's wing is broken. Tarantulas lands next to the pod; he investigates it, only to find it empty. He turns to find ''something'' looming over him through the mist; his scream echoes for miles...

Optimus Primal and Cheetor return to the Axalon, too damaged to search for Silverbolt. Blackarachnia and Silverbolt journey by foot, learning to trust each other, but they are being eavesdropped on by Megatron, who believes that Blackarachnia will turn on the [[Fuzor]] when she no longer needs him. However, he's disappointed when it is made apparent (by saving his life from an attacking sabertooth cat) that she may have feelings for him.

Tarantulas' body is found -- in several pieces. Silverbolt notes that Protoform X must have done this. Megatron, still eavesdropping, fashions an energon blade in preparation. Blackarachnia, freaked, prepares to high-tail it out of the area, as an ominous form skitters through the fog behind them. Suddenly, the two find themselves face-to-face with Protoform X! Huge and frightening, it knocks them around effortlessly and is immune to their firepower. The monster lifts Silverbolt in its powerful claw, asking, "Is that fear you're feeling Maximal? My spark, it feeds on terror." Silverbolt screams in pain as X crushes him.

Primal and Cheetor arrive in the nick of time and attack, freeing Silverbolt; Blackarachnia joins them in blasting Protoform X, eventually driving it off a cliff edge. However, it transforms into tank mode and ascends the cliffside. Silverbolt throws a feathermissile, knocking him down into another pile of raw energon, but not before Protoform X fires at Blackarachnia, knocking her off the other side of the cliff. Silverbolt jumps after her, unsure if his wing mechanism is healed, but it succeeds, and she is saved. The Maximals let her go before returning home. Blackarachnia watches them depart, and (firing her grappling hook to swing up into the trees) mutters "Like I needed him to catch me anyway."

Helpless in the pile of raw energon, Protoform X sees Megatron appear over him with the energon blade. X wakes up in the Predacon base to find that Megatron has carved out a piece of his spark, which he keeps in tiny cage that, when squeezed, causes him pain. Megatron has him at his mercy and renames Protoform X "Rampage."

Some might consider this speech quirk a "lisp", but really, he just likes the letter "Z" a bit too much. (So, those prone to witticisms could call it a a "lizzzzp.") He also refers to himself in the third person, and to most other people by nicknames like "cat-bot" and "two-heads". [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] has classified the harebrained Predacon as expendable, much to Waspinator's dismay. Waspinator, part of Megatron's rogue band of Predacons, landed on an unknown planet with dangerous levels of unstable [[energon]]. To protect themselves from the energon, the Predacons took organic beast modes. In Waspinator's case, he now transformed into a large green wasp. The first conflict between the stranded Predacons and their Maximal pursuers came when the Maximal [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] stumbled across Waspinator.

When [[Rhinox]] had his personality program converted to that of a Predacon, he started surreptitiously taking out the various Predacons. He swung a cargo crate into Waspinator, giving him a concussion. As a result, Waspy flew around in a daze, claiming to be the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] as well as the great Wonko the Sane. This dementia was apparently reversed when [[Cheetor]] later got annoyed at his yattering and shot him down. {{storylink|Dark Designs}}

The Ghost of [[Starscream_(G1)|Starscream]] traveled through time and possessed his body. It took a major explosion to dislodge Starscream's immortal [[spark]] from Waspinator's body. {{storylink|Possession}}

After the [[Vok|aliens]] detonated the unstable energon using the second moon, Waspinator fell into the Restoration pool on the bridge of the ''Darksyde'', preventing him from becoming a Transmetal. [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], observing the slim and attractive Blackarachnia transform and strike a few poses, suggested that he had "ulterior motives behind her beast form selection." But, she was a Predacon, and that was what was important.

Blackarachnia made herself renowned among the ranks of both the Maximals and Predacons as a severe headache to Megatron. When Tarantulas found out about the [[Vok]], he tried to craft a stasis pod escape ship for himself, and she was there to forge a partnership {{storylink|Spider's Game}}. When [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] and Blackarachnia journeyed to the island, she was there to shove him out of the way and take control of the island herself, only defeated by [[Tigatron]] {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}}. When [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] took control of [[Waspinator]]'s body, she was right next to him when he betrayed Megatron, betraying Starscream ''back'' {{storylink|Possession}}. When the Vok were moments away from returning, Tarantulas and Blackarachnia both again teamed up in an attempt to flee the dying planet. Megatron, already aware of the next move, used their deceptive tendencies against them, and acted unaware of their treachery. As they built their escape ship, he installed his own variant on the design, making it unescapable once sealed and in space. Though it did not destroy either of them, the result was even better: [[Optimus Primal]] wound up in the pod and was destroyed instead. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} Blackarachnia's wits saved her, as she convinced Megatron that he would need soldiers, which gave him reason to spare her life. {{storylink|Aftermath}}

When an energon blast sent her and Silverbolt into the middle of the dense jungles, they were forced to work together. Blackarachnia, though attracted to him, was endlessly frustrated by his seemingly idiotic chivalry and need to treat her special. Megatron, listening in to their commlink chatter, was disgusted by the obvious romance going on. Megatron sent Waspinator to the location of the Ark. Blackarachnia, realizing what it meant, abandoned her post and went instead. Silverbolt followed her, and stubbornly refused to leave her alone. Exhausted and in a hurry, she conceded and told him to dig. The two broke through the mountainside, just as Megatron - having broke free from [[Ravage]], arrived. Megatron knew Blackarachnia had the codes to the Golden Disk that would allow them to get by the Ark's security systems, and he threatened to vape Silverbolt. Bitterly, she agreed to his demands.

Blackarachnia used the Ark's security system to cover Megatron's back, not sure of what he was planning. Once he fired upon [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], history began to change, wiping out all Maximals...which included herself. Not willing to die for Megatron, she activated [[Teletraan-1]]'s security nets to force Megatron off the ship. With Silverbolt's help, they got the dying Autobot leader under life support and begun the repairs. Later, Blackarachnia took the [[Transmetal driver]] and attempted to use it on herself. Silverbolt, not realizing what she was planning, bailed her out of the contraption. Like every good girlfriend, she began to chew him out, but was cut off as an energy surge made her lose control of her circuits. A security system Tarantulas installed had been triggered by her tampering with her core, and the only way to fix it was to cut the Predacon [[shell program]] loose. Reluctantly, she agreed. An attack on the Maximal base disrupted the attempt, and she was deactivated.

Distraught, Silverbolt took off to avenge her death. He easily subdued Tarantulas, and was moments away from executing him when [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] attacked him. In Beast Machines, Blackarachnia was distraught and confused - she was locked out of her robot mode, back in her original body, all of her allies were gone, Silverbolt had vanished, and she was being attacked by what looked like Cybertronian guards.

She had a relatively easy time adapting to her new technorganic form, but she was still frustrated by the loss of Silverbolt. When [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] saved her life, having strange recollections of doing so before, her mind was set - he was Silverbolt, mutated and made evil by Megatron.

Using some of the organic fluid from the Cybertronian core, she trapped Thrust in some of her webs and forced his inner personality out, begging for Silverbolt to answer. The reply was not quite what she was looking for.

When [[Jetstorm]] attacked, he also was caught up in some of her organic goo, and his true personality came out, sweeping Blackarachnia in his arms. Silverbolt returned, but just for a moment. The goo vanished, and their Vehicon minds returned.

Later, Blackarachnia managed to force Jetstorm into a large pool of the organic goo, and his body began to change. Scanning a nearby vulture skeleton, he awoke in a new body.

Blackarachnia was startled by the change in him. Instead of the lovable chivalrous knight in shining armor, he was a brittle, haunted bot, tormented by the images of the evil deeds he did, and did by choice. Though he gave up on himself, she never did, urging Silverbolt to forgive his past.

Unfortunately for the Maximals, as they attempted to return home to Cybertron, Megatron broke free from his restraints and fell out of transwarp space, thus they arrived home to hostile fire from an already conquered planet. Upon landing, Rhinox and the others fled an army of tank drones, but Megatron's transformation virus and canisters of "devolution gas" whipped them good. (Were they not men?). Those Maximals that had [[Transmetal]] or [[Transmetal 2]] forms were reverted to the first beast mode in their datatrax, but managed to escape. Rhinox and [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]], who had no other forms to revert to, entered stasis lock and captured. Rhinox's spark was forcibly removed and stored in a canister in Megatron's citadel.

When Megatron found that he needed underlings to properly control his Vehicon armies in battle, he used Rhinox's spark to power his tank general [[Tankor (BM)|Tankor]]. Figuring that if the Maximal's discovered their new enemy had once been their close friend it would make them less willing to fight him. Rhinox's spark/consciousness remained conscious inside Tankor but could not act.

True to Megatron's expectations, the Maximals did attempt to reach Tankor's spark and discovering Rhinox there, they endeavored to wake his spark. They succeeded, but the Rhinox they got was not the Rhinox they expected. Tainted and embittered by his time inside Tankor, Rhinox rejected the Maximals and embraced Megatron's plan for a peaceful (because everyone else was dead) technologically pure Cybertron, only with ''himself'' at its head instead of Megatron.

''(This new Tankor-Rhinox acts much like the temporary Predacon-ized version of Rhinox seen in Beast Wars. It has thus been speculated that it may be similarly the result of awakening Rhinox's spark without shutting down the Tankor shell program. The BM story editors however opined that they believed Rhinox was totally free when he chose this path, though that seems less in character.)''

Tankor-Rhinox immediately began plotting against both Megatron and the Maximals. He caught and reprogrammed Megatron's [[Diagnostic Drone]], forcing it to work for him. He found the [[Oracle]] and, using the Diagnostic Drone, retrieved the [[Key to Vector Sigma]] from within. He then faked his own death and attempted to manipulate Megatron into firing the key on a planetary scale which would have killed all the organics, the Maximals and Megatron, leaving Rhinox to rule a pure mechanical world. Tankor's manipulations failed when he tried to attack Megatron, and a provision against doing so, hard-wired into his programming, shut him down. Due to Tankor's manipulations however, Primal opened the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]] and Megatron fired the Key and in the ensuing clash of energies Tankor-Rhinox's body was destroyed and his spark joined the Matrix.

'''Robots in Disguise''' is a Transformers franchise that launched in the year 2001. It was an American port of 2000's Japanese transformers series '''Car Robots'''. Many of the characters were changed into new incarnations of characters from [[Generation 1]], and the remains notable for its numerous vague reference to characters and events from other series, making it difficult to place in relation to other continuities.

The ''Robots in Disguise'' franchise featured the following primary components:

*A single American comic book story by Dreamwave (produced after the series ended production) set in the same continuity as the cartoon series.

Robots in Disguise was intended as a low-cost, minimal-work "filler" line after Hasbro scrapped [[Transtech]], the series slated to follow [[Beast Machines]]. Hasbro used the time this bought to co-develop [[Armada]] with their japanese partner Takara. It aired on Fox Kids (the last Transformers series to air on a broadcast network) and saw surprising comercial success, laying the groundwork for the success of the subsequent series [[Armada]].

The ''Robots in Disguise'' dub was inadvertently bought by Disney in 2002, creating legal problems with images from the series. As a result, ''RiD's'' section in [[The Ultimate Guide]] was perfunctory, covering only the toys.

As of July 2006, the series has been released on DVD in the UK only, in two box sets. The DVDs are Region 2 and in PAL format, to serve you better and protect us all from robot [[Cannonball|pirates]].

* The Robots in Disguise cartoon rewrote the Japanese Transformers series [[Car Robots]], ''transforming'' the all-new Japanese cast into familiar American characters, notably [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Prowl (RID)|Prowl]].
* [[TakaraTomy|Takara]] considers Robots in Disguise to be the 'same' series as Car Robots. Thus, the American release of Sideways for Robots in Disguise toyline means that [[ Sideways |Doubleface]] (Sideways's Japanese name) first appeared in Car Robots.
* The Robots in Disguise cartoon included numerous references that seemed to make it follow season 2 of the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|original cartoon]], but which precluded it being in the same continuity as the [[The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|movie]] and season 3. Though unprecedented at the time, as of this writing there are now 3 or 4 more 'branch off before the movie' continuities.{{fact}}
