Megatron's latest scheme involves using the most powerful computer on Earth to control machinery remotely.

Japanese title: "The Rebellion of the Computer"

Detailed synopsis
Megatron and Soundwave (the former disguised in a guitar case!) not-so-silently infiltrate Quantum Laboratories, a top-secret facility where the world’s most powerful computer, TORQ III, is housed. Megatron reprograms the computer with his own personality and gives it the power to control remotely dangerous machines of all types through the use of "Remote Control Circuit Linker cards."

At the same time, scientist Dr. Paul Gates of Quantum Labs muses with a colleague about the dangers of machine sentience and that, in the wrong hands, TORQ III might be too powerful. Since Fate is both cruel and timely, the very scenario they were discussing comes true when TORQ III locks them in their office and announces that he’s taking over.

Megatron is using TORQ and the circuit linker cards to remotely control fleets of oil tankers. This alerts Teletraan 1, who notifies Optimus Prime. Prime then receives Dr. Gates’ distress signal; Gates fills him in on TORQ III’s rebellion and asks to be rescued.
[[Image:Dayofmachinesautossurround.jpg|thumb|225px|right|The Autobots play "Monkey In The Middle".]
Hound and Skyfire are assigned to investigate the tankers, and Spike tags along. Prime leads a group to Quantum Labs, where they immediately come under attack by machines controlled by TORQ. Overwhelmed, Prime orders in the Dinobots (minus Swoop) to come help, and they smash, chomp and melt down all of the machines. Grimlock makes his usual pompous comment about having to save Prime’s bacon when things get rough. Afterward, Prime rescues Dr. Gates and they advance toward the buildings, meeting lots of resistance from TORQ’s machines.

Meanwhile, Hound, Spike and Skyfire sneak aboard an oil tanker and infiltrate the Decepticons' oil platform. Their attack falls short when Spike is captured and they are forced to surrender.

After smashing more remote-controlled machines at Quantum, Prime decides to explore inside TORQ’s maze-like complex alone. As Optimus moves in closer, one of the machines places a circuit linker card on him, making him Torq’s slave, and he is brought into the computer’s domain. Butm-surprise, surprisem- Prime rips the card off his body, saying it was a dud he placed in the robot’s claw, and he disables TORQ with a well-placed punch to the control panel.

Back at the oil platform, Spike has hatched an idea to use an electromagnet (which happened to be in their cell) to immobilize Rumble and Ravage. Skyfire easily smashes through the cell door and Hound disables the force dome that was protecting the platform. The rest of the Autobots arrive and a battle ensues. Prime faces down Megatron and manages to wrest a remote control device from his hands, then tosses it back to him. Megatron lands on it, crushing it, and comes back up spitting mad. He retaliates by activating the self-destruct mechanism on the platform.

The Autobots escape, but Prime stays behind to find Hound, Skyfire and Spike. He rips apart the platform deck, revealing the missing team members, and Skyfire flies them out of danger.

Finally, Prime says goodbye to Dr. Gates, who makes a parting comment about machines being unreliable, and then quickly retracts the statement when he realizes his gaff. The Autobots laugh at the ungrateful human's hubris.
The Decepticons ally with the undersea realm of Sub-Atlantica. But they may be more treacherous than Megatron expected.

Summary
Soundwave summons Megatron to the control room, saying that Laserbeak and Buzzsaw have detected massive energy readings underwater. The Decepticons investigate and encounter the Sub-Atlanticans, a race who hope to conquer the surface world one day. Megatron negotiates a deal with Nergill, King of Sub-Atlantica, offering Decepticon military technology in exchange for access to their geothermal storehouses. Starscream distrusts the Sub-Atlanticans, who communicate with each other telepathically.

Near the Autobot base, Spike, Bumblebee, and Hound are playing a game of football with the Dinobots. Wheeljack arrives before the Dinobots accidentally kill anyone, telling them there is a massive energy reading emanating from near the Decepticon base. Optimus Prime dispatches Bumblebee, Brawn, Hound, and Wheeljack to investigate, with Spike tagging along. The Decepticons and Sub-Atlanticans attack and take Wheeljack prisoner. After raising the city from the bottom of the ocean, the Decepticons and Sub-Atlanticans prepare to attack Washington, D.C. as a sign of their new alliance. Nergill communicates with his soldiers, telling Megatron that they will imprison Wheeljack in his dungeons. However, at Starscream's orders, Soundwave unscrambles the message and learns that Wheeljack is to be taken to their laboratory.

The Autobots head for Washington, hoping to stop the Decepticons and Sub-Atlanticans. Prime has Spike and Bumblebee head for Sub-Atlantica, hoping to rescue Wheeljack, while the Autobot leader takes the others to Washington. The Sub-Atlanticans raise a force field over Washington, trapping the Autobots inside. In Sub-Atlantica, Nergill is developing a disruptor which will shut down Transformers. Starscream discovers this and is shot by Nergill, who learns that it is less effective on Decepticons. As Nergill leaves, Starscream attempts to drain power from Wheeljack, but Bumblebee and Spike stop the Air Commander.

Heading for Washington, Nergill uses the disruptor to defeat the Autobots, but holds back on the Decepticons. As the Sub-Atlanticans secure the Capitol building, his soldiers ask when to move against the Decepticons, but Nergill decides to wait a little while longer. Meanwhile, Megatron (sitting at the Lincoln Memorial) tells Thundercracker that they will deal with the Sub-Atlanticans soon enough.

Wheeljack calls in the Dinobots, who manage to penetrate the force field but come to blows with the Cons. Megatron and Grimlock fight, and Nergill tries to shoot them both, but Starscream causes Nergill to miss. Grimlock grabs the disruptor and destroys it, causing the Autobots to revive. The Decepticons and Sub-Atlanticans retreat back to their own city, with the Autobots in pursuit.

Back at Sub-Atlantica, Megatron demands an answer to Starscream's treason charge against Nergill, but Nergill informs him that the Autobots are coming. They invade the city, and the Dinobots begin smashing everything in sight.

Nergill decides to destroy the city, hoping to destroy the Transformers as well. Spike, Wheeljack, and Bumblebee follow, hoping to stop Nergill, with Rumble and Ravage in pursuit. The two Mini-Cassettes realize Nergill's intentions, and Rumble tries to bury him in rubble, but it's too late. Nergill throws a device into his energy containers, which starts a chain reaction that destroys the city. The Autobots and Decepticons manage to retreat, while the Sub-Atlanticans and their home disappear under the waves. Prime says they probably won't see Nergill again for a long time.

Animation and/or technical glitches
*As the Washington Monument starts to fall, when Optimus Prime stands for a second, another Optimus Prime pops out of him.
*When the Dinobots break through the force field, Starscream is among the group fighting them off, even though he was last seen in Sub-Atlantica.

Continutity errors
* Spike is obviously some sort of super human. He can survive in the "deepest part of the Atlantic ocean" wearing only a bathing suit and using a simple oxygen tank and googles. Amazing that he isn't crushed under the weight of the ocean or freezes to death.

Transformers references
* In Transformers: The Game, Megatron also takes the Lincoln Memorial throne as his own. This is only in the Decepticon campaign, however.

*While it mostly comes off as arrogance, Grimlock has a point when he lectures Optimus Prime about the Autobots depending on the Dinobots to save them. When the Dinobots are becoming aware of the fact that they're just a deus ex machina, you know that it's time to add a little more depth to your stories.
:Smokescreen is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Every Autobot has a purpose, be it as a leader, a warrior, a healer, or a scout. Smokescreens purpose, however, is to charm and deceive. His job is to conceal the Autobots' true mission and lead the enemy astray, and he's not above flat-out cheating to get the job done. Off the battlefield, he uses his naturally friendly and sociable nature to get in close with his Autobot comrades... then reports back to Optimus Prime, giving the Autobot leader an on-the-ground perspective on what his troops are thinking.

Smokescreen's armaments are similar to his tactics. If he can't outthink, charm, or just plain outrun you, he'll surround you with a magnetized cloud of smoke, and blast you with his circuit-scrambling weapons while you're stumbling around blindly.

Smokescreen affectionately refers to his teammate Powerglide as "P.G."

After being transported to planet of giant aliens, Optimus Prime failed to introduce Smokescreen to the alien boy Aron. Smokescreen didn't seem to mind. Child's Play

After fleeing the planet, the group of Autobots were captured by a bounty hunter named Bosch and then de-energised to prevent escape. Somehow, Smokescreen was unaffected, and managed to break free from the containment tubes. He made a deal with Bosche: the bounty hunter would free Smokescreen's friends in exchange for helping the gambling-addicted alien win energon chips on the gambling world of Monacus. After trading in the other Autobots for chips with the local crime boss Lord Gyconi in the city of Sheol, Smokescreen gambled away the freedom of his friends after his cheating is stopped by a small Jawa looking creature. Well done, Smokescreen.

He eventually makes good on his debt thanks to the help of Autobot bounty hunter Devcon, who helped take down the Decepticon-backed Gyconi. After Optimus Prime and the others were reactivated, they all rolled back to Monacus' Casino Row for a little recreation. The Gambler

Smokescreen was amongst the Autobot participants in the Europa 2000, a charity race from Paris to Istanbul. While the Autobots were obstensibly there to try an win extra money for charity, they were secretly assigned to protect the arrogant American driver Auggie Cahnay. Smokescreen was making good progress in the race until he was rammed off the road by Wildrider, then broadsided by the other Stunticons. After crawling back onto the road, he was discovered by Bluestreak. Trans-Europe Express

In the original Storyboards for The Transformers: The Movie, it was Smokescreen who lay dead, rather than Wheeljack.

Binaltech storyline
When the Decepticons unleashed Cosmic Rust on Earth, Smokescreen was one of the many Autobots infested with the virus. As Earth Defense Command created the Binaltech Project in order to help the Autobots, Smokescreen was one of the first patients to undergo transference into an electro-cell powered new body. With the help of his fellow Binaltech Autobots, Smokescreen and his new power helped drive the Decepticons off the planet. He remained part of the soldiers based at Autobot City on Earth.

Marvel comics continuity
Generation 1
When the Autobot forces on Earth were severely depleted by several battles, Optimus Prime instructed Wheeljack to construct five additional warriors using a device called the Mind Bank. It seems that before the Ark left Cybertron, Smokescreen and four other Autobots allowed their minds to be encoded on crystalline containment vessels, in case reinforcements were needed on the starship's mission. Left in storage for the last few million years after the crash, the crystals were miraculously still intact, and Wheeljack had constructed new Earthen bodies for the Autobots. Upon their revival, Smokescreen and his fellows were entrusted to Bumblebee's care, to act as their guide in adapting to Earth roads and customs.

As their training and acclimation mission continued, Prime contacted the group and ordered them on an additional reconnaissance mission to watch out for a Decepticon attempt to steal sonic energy at a local rock concert. Naturally, their "reconnaissance only" mission quickly turned into a battle with Shockwave and the Seekers, but Smokescreen and the others acquitted themselves well on their first terrestrial mission. Rock and Roll-Out!

Later, Smokescreen was assigned by Optimus Prime to surreptitiously guard Buster Witwicky from harm, after the young human personally humiliated the Decepticon commander Shockwave in battle using a mech suit. Taking Ironhide, Tracks, Brawn, and Buster's worried father Sparkplug Witwicky with him, Smokescreen followed Buster and Jessie to a demolition derby. Smokescreen was fascinated by the spectacle, seeing it as a form of gladiatorial combat. In fact, he was SO fascinated that he reactivated his Facsimile Construct circuitry in his front seat without realizing that Sparkplug had climbed back inside. An unpleasant silence followed. Devastation Derby!

When Optimus Prime, Prowl and Ratchet mysteriously vanished in a flash of light, Smokescreen shined under adversity and, alongside the likes of Jetfire and Ironhide, rose to a command position among the Autobots during their battles with the evil Galvatron and his minions. He and the others suffered a severe pounding at the hands of the future Decepticons and the Autobot Jazz, who had been temporarily turned into a zombie-drone by Galvatron after being taken prisoner. At one point, Jetfire was ready to pack it in and lead the Autobots in a retreat, but Smokescreen rallyed them into continuing the fight. Target 2006

Like many Autobots, Smokescreen disappeared after the Underbase Saga, and is presumed to have been killed battling Starscream or the united Decepticon armies of Scorponok and Ratbat. Dark Star!

Marvel UK future timelines
In 2008, Smokescreen and Inferno were assigned a simple taxi mission to bring Autobot ally Wreck-Gar back home to the planet of Junk. That "simple mission" turned ugly when they discovered Unicron's head, alive and functioning, had taken over the minds of the Junkion populace and was forcing them to rebuild his body. Cutting out in an attempt to get back to Cybertron and warn Rodimus Prime, the Autobots were seen and came under fire from Unicron's puppet, Death's Head. Inferno was injured and Wreck-Gar stayed behind to cover their retreat, leaving only Smokescreen to pilot the shuttle back to Cybertron. Without a co-pilot, he was hard pressed to keep the ship in the air AND evade Unicron's other puppets, Scourge and Cyclonus, when they tried to shoot him down before he reached Prime. With the ship going down, Inferno hauled himself out of the medical bay long enough to toss Smokescreen to safety and guide the shuttle down in a suicide crash atop the nearby Decepticon forces.

Once Smokescreen made his report, he joined Rodimus, Scattershot and the Dinobots in returning to Junk to deal with Unicron. While Prime and the Dinobots hit the ground to deal with the Junkions, Smokescreen and Scattershot stayed aboard the shuttle to distract Unicron. Much to Scattershot's dismay, Smokescreen adapted a rather devil-may-care attitude, swooping in too close to Unicron's massive head and barely avoiding his eye-beams. Smokescreen's attitude came from his guilt over leaving Wreck-Gar along on Junk and letting Inferno get killed, but luckily his rashness didn't cause any lasting damage, and Unicron's evil was ultimately contained inside the Creation Matrix by Rodimus. The Legacy of Unicron!

Some months later, Smokescreen was part of the band of Autobots who came to Earth to free Autobot City from an occupying force of Quintessons. Space Pirates!
Generation 2
Smokescreen was fighting alongside his friend, Inferno, and some former Wreckers against the Cybertronian Empire. However, he suffered heavy damage and was apparently killed in battle. Escalation!

After the Great Shutdown, Smokescreen returned to civilian life while the Unified Cybertronian government rose up around him. Initially complacement with shared rule with the Decepticons, Smokescreen's optics were opened thanks to the revolutionary actions of the young Autobot Hot Rod and his followers. Smokescreen gathered a resistance unit of his own with Tracks, Devcon, and several Minibots. Thanks to his Autobot connections in the Triple-Changer Strike Force, Smokescreen managed to get Prowl and the rest of the Ark's crew released from custody to join up with his cell. This soon led to a successful insurrection, clearing out Shockwave and his corrupt influence, leaving Cybertron under peaceful Autobot control. War and Peace
:Smokescreen transforms into a Datsun 280ZX Turbo based upon the Electramotive Davendorf/Sharpe touring car. Contrary to popular belief, the 38 decal is not a reversed "83" (often said to be an attempt to avoid legal issues). In truth, the real life car has raced under both numbers. Though Smokescreen is a Datsun 280ZX, he is a retool of the standard body used by both Bluestreak and Prowl, featuring a much larger front fender and a rear spoiler. He is predominantly blue, red and white in both vehicle and robot modes. Like Bluestreak and Prowl, he features two spring-loaded missile launchers mounted either side of his head, and is armed with a silver laser rifle.

: In 2002, Smokescreen was re-released as part of the Transformers Collection series in Japan. This version has slightly-altered decals, and fully-functional spring-loaded missile launchers.

: In 2003, Smokescreen was released as part of the Toys "R" Us exclusive "Commemorative Series" line in the US. This version of Smokescreen uses a softer , unchromed black plastic for his rifle and missiles owing to breakage issues, plus his launchers are completely non-firing. :Alternators Smokescreen transforms into a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRC rally car, with opening hood, trunk, and all four doors as well as a detailed interior. He also featured working steering and rubber tires. His robot mode is based upon his original toy, as well as his cartoon model, but with changes made to reflect modern standards of Transformers toys, as well as his new vehicle mode. He is armed with a laser rifle formed from his turbo intercooler, and has the capacity to mount two spring-loaded rocket launchers on either side of his shoulders, though these were only included with his 2004 Binaltech retool, Smokescreen GT.

:There are several major differences between the Takara Binaltech Smokescreen and Hasbro's Alternators version. While the Binaltech version of Smokescreen is constructed partially out of die-cast metal and painted in a metallic electric blue paint job, Hasbro's Alternators release has plain blue plastic. Additionally, Takara released both the number 07 Solberg / Mills and the number 08 Makinen / Lindstrom versions of the 2003 WRC car, Hasbro only released the number 08 version. There have often been complaints, however, of Binaltech Smokescreen's paint being very easy to scratch or scrape.

:In 2004, Takara retooled him for their Binaltech series into Smokescreen GT. He recieved a new front end, hood, roof, spoiler and wheels to reflect the changes made to the Team Subaru WRC car in the 2004 World Rally Championship. He also included a single spring-loaded missile launcher (with missile) that could be attached either side of his head via two small holes.

: Note: Smokescreen was actually a retool of Alternators/Binaltech Silverstreak, a stock Subaru WRX. However, the marketing department at Takara felt that the more flashy Smokescreen would make a more suitable debut toy and would grab more attention than the plain silver Streak would.
Trivia
* Smokescreen's original deco has been used for multiple homage toys. Armada Prowl and Cybertron Smokescreen both use the red-and-blue deco with "38" on the hood.

* Said deco is in fact based on a real-life rally car deco.

* In late 2005, Subaru displayed a life-size robot-mode prop of Binaltech Smokescreen GT using body shell parts of the then-current Impreza WRC for a corporate event. Ironically this prop had the same parts fits problems in vehicle mode that the increasingly worn-out Binaltech Smokescreen and Streak toolings would exhibit in the then-current Binaltech Asterisk Alert release.
Daniel and Wheelie's first team-up! Run!

Detailed synopsis
Spike and the Autobots throw a surprise party for Daniel, but it is interrupted by an attack from the Combaticons. Wheelie gets caught in the crossfire and Ultra Magnus throws himself over the boy Autobot to save him from being shot. After hitting the shuttle bay and destroying several ships, the Combaticons retreat. The attack was a coordinated effort by Galvatron to disrupt a peace conference to be hosted on Cybertron the next day.

Daniel and Wheelie want to throw Ultra Magnus a surprise party, but no one knows the date of his creation and it isn’t on file in the Hall of Records. An annoying and clumsy records robot tells them that the information must be stored on the lost Autobot storage asteroid. Daniel and Wheelie steal a garbage ship and head out to find the asteroid and the info. Unbeknownst to them, their movements are being watched by Cyclonus, who evidently doesn’t have anything better to do than spy on garbage ships. Galvatron orders his troops to follow it.

Stuck in a meteor shower, Daniel and Wheelie crash on an asteroid that – surprise! – happens to be the asteroid they were looking for. While they are exploring they are attacked by scaly flying eels and take refuge in a cave, which turns out to be the opening to the records. Inside, robot drones attack them for asking for the wrong file name. To make matters worse, the eels have found their way inside and attach themselves to Wheelie. Just as they are about to be shot by the drones and eaten by the eels, both menaces are destroyed by Cyclonus and the Sweeps, who take the pair hostage and interrogate them.

Cyclonus reprograms the asteroid into a collision course for Cybertron and then sends Spike a message that he’s holding Daniel hostage. The Autobots have two choices: destroy the asteroid and kill Daniel, or let the asteroid hit the planet and kill all the peace delegates.

Ultra Magnus takes Sky Lynx to the asteroid. The Sweeps attack, but Magnus makes short work of them, then heads after Cyclonus. They pound on each other as Wheelie sneaks by and presses the convenient self-destruct button. Cyclonus runs off and the Autobots and Daniel escape in Sky Lynx as the asteroid blows up.

Safe on Cybertron, Daniel explains how they got into this mess, looking for Ultra Magnus’ birthday. Spike declares today as Ultra Magnus’ birthday and everyone cheers.
