: Transforming into a Lamborghini Countach Fire Chief's car, Red Alert's toy is a redeco of the Diaclone "New Countach LP500S Police Car", which was a remold that added roof lights to the original Diaclone "New Countach LP500S", which was the mold used to make Sideswipe. Red Alert's alt mode is a perfect disguise, since many Fire Departments have Lamborghinis as auxiliary vehicles.
Hasbro reissued Red by himself as part of Commemorative Series IV, available at US Toys "R" Us stores in 2003.

:Red Alert's mold was also used to make Clamp Down, who was an homage to the mold's original police deco. Sans roof lights, the Lamborghini mold was also used for Deep Cover, Tigertrack, and Generation 2 Sideswipe.
: The first release in the Asterisk sub-line of Binaltech, Alert is a retool of the Binaltech Streak mold as a Subaru WRX STi Japanese Police vehicle, a scheme that many fans expected for a Binaltech/Alternators Prowl. Although not a Fire Department vehicle this time, the toy's robot mode did feature many red highlights, including a red head, but as the headsculpt was unchanged, he still looked like Streak. BTA Alert was packaged with the PVC human figurine Ai Kuruma, a poilcewoman based on Robots in Disguise T-AI.

: It should be noted that Alert's release had problems with parts-fitting in vehicle mode, possibly a sign that the Subaru WRX tooling was showing its age. The later release of this mold as Ricochet does not have these problems.

:Torkulon is a planet from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Torkulon is a semi-sentient planet which is used as an enormous psychiatric ward, and is comprised of a web-like substance which its ape-like inhabitants can control freely.

Fiction
Animated continuity
Generation 1 cartoon
Cyclonus was tricked by a Quintesson into commiting the terminally insane Galvatron to Torkulon's care.

Due to Galvatron's unprecedented level of dementia, the therapists of Torkulon were unable to heal him and were forced to let Torkulon absorb Galvatron's mind by letting the Alia bugs "eat his madness" (effectively lobotomizing him). Cyclonus protested at this point and insisted the Torkulons stop the treatment, but he was also restrained and forced to watch. However, merely touching Galvatron's mind drove the planet itself stark-raving crazy.

With the planet rapidly losing its own sanity (and the therapists losing their ability to control the planet), Galvatron broke free and traveled to Torkulon's core, which he promptly destroyed. This effectively killed the planet and released all of its patients. Webworld

Trivia
*It is generally accepted that Torkulon, its therapists, and their practices are largely intended to satirize the western psychiatric medicine industry, as well as traditional images of lunatic asylums (ala One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).

Torkulon is a semi-sentient planet which is used as an enormous psychiatric ward, and is comprised of a web-like substance which its ape-like inhabitants can control freely.

Webworld

Trivia
*It is generally accepted that Torkulon, its therapists, and their practices are largely intended to parody the western psychiatric medicine industry, as well as traditional images of lunatic asylums (ala One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).
:Soundwave is a Decepticon in the Generation 1 continuity family. In the Japanese series, he later took the name Soundblaster.
Soundwave is one of Megatron's most reliable troops, and has positioned himself comfortably and irreplaceably in Megatron's upper command structure, and stands at the Decepticon leader's side as confidant. Soundwave guards his place in the hierarchy fiercely. Though loyal to Megatron, the other Decepticons see him as a two-faced snake. As Communications Officer, Soundwave sees and hears all, and will not hesitate to use blackmail to keep himself high in Megatron's esteem. The other Decepticons wouldn't mind abandoning him on the battlefield -- if they thought Megatron would let them get away with it.

Soundwave commands a legion of cassette troops to carry out tasks big and small. Sometimes he lets them all out to watch impromptu gladiator games.

After the Transformers' awakening on Earth, Soundwave served quietly under Megatron, before he was overthrown by Shockwave. Under Shockwave's command, Soundwave attacked the Blackrock Aerospace Plant and secured it for Decepticon use. Warrior School! The plant's facilities were used to create the Constructicons, who built a massive radio dish that Soundwave used to beam a message back to Cybertron. The Next Best Thing to Being There! Soundwave assumed leadership of the Decepticons a short time later and lead them against the Autobots during the "Dinobot Hunt," during a brief period when both Megatron and Shockwave were missing in action. Dinobot Hunt

When Megatron resurfaced, rendered immobile in a Wyoming coal mine due to lack of fuel, Soundwave sped to his rescue, re-energizing him. I, Robot Master! Using the splintered state of the Decepticon forces to his advantage, Soundwave worked both sides of the field, reporting to both Megatron and the returned Shockwave, without the other's knowledge. When Shockwave learned that the human Buster Witwicky had begun to suffer Matrix-induced visions of the next leap in Transformer evolution, Soundwave reported this to Megatron, prompting him to battle Shockwave for leadership. The Decepticons' human ally, Robot Master, televised the battle, much to Soundwave's distaste, and in order to prevent the Decepticons from looking like fools, interrupted the duel and insisted that they agree to a joint leadership. Second Generation!

When the Robot-Master hoax the Decepticons were perpetrating was threatened by the investigate work of Joy Meadows, Soundwave was instrumental in ending the conflict that ensued between the Decepticons and the Dinobots by holding the reporter hostage and destroying her footage. In the National Interest! Not long thereafter, when the deranged future Decepticon, Galvatron, travelled back in time, Soundwave was intruiged by the fact that he was unable to scan his mind to discern the truth of his identity. Siding with Megatron when conflict erupted, Soundwave and his leader were buried under an avalanche by Galvatron, and then rescued by the Autobots in the name of forming an alliance to defeat their common enemy. Target 2006

It would be some time before Soundwave came back to the fore, and his return to the spotlight was an ignominious one. With Megatron having apparently died, Soundwave was now once again under Shockwave's command, and, while patrolling on the Decepticon's mobile island base, found himself attacked and subdued by the time-travelling freelance peace-keeping agent, Death's Head, and tricked into giving up information on the whereabouts of Galvatron. Hunters! Although Death's Head's attempts to track down the Decepticon met with failure, Galvatron was ultimately entombed in lava, where he was later discovered by Susan Hoffman. Soundwave observed a televised broadcast of her discovery, and he and the Combaticons attempted to destroy Galvatron with explosives planted around the volcano in question. After a battle with the Throttlebots, Soundwave found that he was unable to remotely detonate the explosives planted around the volcano thanks to Blaster jamming his signal. Ladies' Night!

When Shockwave was removed from power, Soundwave smoothly transitioned to serving under the new Decepticon leader Ratbat, and helped to operate his Realvision playback system to decode data from Autobot tapes Grandslam and Raindance. The Flames of Boltax! The tapes, it was discovered, contained information on the Underbase, the power of which was soon claimed by Starscream, who immediately targeted the Earth. Soundwave co-lead the defence of New York alongside Fortress Maximus, but was deactivated by a blast of cosmic power from Starscream. Dark Star!

It would be some time before Soundwave was operational again, but was back on his feet by the time that Starscream - now a Pretender - was busy doubting his self-worth. Fallen Star He continued to operate under the command of the new Decepticon Earth commander, Scorponok.

In 2007, in the alternate future world of Earth-120185, Soundwave was second-in-command of the Decepticon forces under Shockwave, and succeeded him after Death's Head assassinated him on the orders of Unicron. The Legacy of Unicron! In 2008, Soundwave entered into an alliance with the Quintessons, arranging to attack the Autobots as part of a larger plan. He was, however, unaware of the aliens' true plans to take control of Cybertron, and found himself double-crossed when the Quintessons ambushed the Decepticons en route to their attack on the Autobots. The Autobots, led by Ultra Magnus, saved Soundwave's forces from the Quintessons, and they joind forces to repel the Quintesson invasion. Space Pirates! Finally, in 2009, Soundwave led the Terrorcons back in time to 1989, where they briefly participated in the "Time Wars," before returning to their own time in the midst of the conflict to save their own hides. Time Wars

Earthforce
In the tangent timeline that is home to the Autobot Earthforce team, Soundwave nominally served on Megatron's side during the Decepticon Civil War, but, once again, was not above exploiting the conflict for his own ends. When an energon shipment was hijacked by Shockwave's forces thanks to information he had given them, Megatron came to suspect the presence of a traitor in his ranks, but ironically assigned Soundwave to identify them. To keep his own duplicity a secret, he sets up Wildrider to take the fall, and Megatron destroys the Stunticon. Secrets

Approached by Starscream with a plan to make them both Decepticon leaders, Soundwave joined forces with the schemer and lured Megatron and Shockwave to an airport, tipping off the Autobots to their location. With the two leaders thus occupied, Soundwave and Starscream take control. Internal Affairs! Subsequently, Soundwave led an all-out attack on the Earthforce base as a diversion, while Starscream attempts to plunder an oil tanker. Starscream meets with failure, however, leading Soundwave to withdraw his forces, and wonder if he should not take leadership for himself alone. Divide and Conquer! Starscream is aware of Soundwave's goals, and when he is attacked by a group of alien assassins, suspects that he has ordered the hit and strikes back at him. Soundwave is able to convince him he is not responsible - in actuality, it was the work of Megatron and Soundwave. External Forces!

Learning that human reporter Irwin Spoon had secured an interview with the Autobots that could potentially resolve public view of the Transformer war. Seeking to prevent this, he has the Stunticons captured the journalist, and although the Autobots are able to rescue him, a carefully planted cerebro-shell ensures that the story Irwin writes is anything but accurate. End of the Road!

Animated continuity
The Transformers
:Voice Actor: Frank Welker (US), Issei Masamune (Japan)

Prior to his arrival on Earth, Soundwave had the questionably useful altmode of a space-age lamp-post. This allowed him to get as close to Autobot headquarters as the street leading into Iacon, but thankfully his chest-dwelling minion Laserbeak could snoop even closer. The loyal Laserbeak overheard talk of the Autobot mission to seek new energy sources off Cybertron, which prompted the fateful Decepticon interception mission that eventually landed both teams on Earth.

Immediately after the Transformers awakened on Earth in 1984, Soundwave played an essential role in the generation of energon cubes and the formation of plans for a new space cruiser to return the Decepticons to Cybertron. He sounded really cool when he talked about these, too. Soundwave was reformatted as a portable casette player, which allowed him to dupe a grabby and none-too-questioning Spike Witwicky into carrying his shrunken form into the Ark headquarters. This was to happen many times to the seemingly tape-deck addicted citizens of Earth.

Later, he used his mind-reading talents to acquire an antimatter formula for the Decepticons from the brain of Chip Chase. One of Soundwave's most notable misadventures came in in 1985, when, operating a plan conceived by Starscream, he brainwashed humans with ultrasonic vibrations inside the Decepticon-built night club Dancitron in New York City, leading to a confrontation with his Autobot Communications Officer counterpart, Blaster, beginning a lasting rivalry between the two.

Soundwave rarely displayed much emotion, and only infrequently exhibited any cunning and self-serving traits. He came across as extremely loyal to Megatron, even going so far as to recover the mortally wounded leader after being left for dead at the Battle of Autobot City in 2005. But while Soundwave was loyal, he was far from stupid, and kept his mouth shut when Megatron was subsequently ejected into space, and although he did suggest himself as a replacement leader, he again loyally served Megatron when he returned as Galvatron.

In the year 2006, although operating in a less prominent capacity for most of the time, Soundwave played a prominent role in Galvatron's attempt to learn the secret of a sonic weapon on the planet Eurythma, where sound and music were the way of life, leaving Soundwave entranced by the planet's perfect melodies. Recording each piece of the harmony that formed the devastating sonic effect, Soundwave was defeated when the Eurythmans countered the harmony with white noise, and was again pulled into a confrontation with Blaster, who erased his recordings.

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformer manga
Soundwave and his cassettes had stolen some top secret information and were being pursued through Tokyo by the Autobots. His chase eventually ended when Bumblebee got the drop on him with his patented "Bumble-Kick" and shattered his chest and the stolen information within.

The manga maintained something resembling continuity: during his appearance in the third issue of the book, Soundwave was shown to have bandages over his chest. Adorable.

Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Trasnformer story pages
In the second "Anime Theater" story page, titled Sick em, Hound!, the Autobots decided to keep themselves in shape by having a friendly race. Soundwave learned of the race and set up a trap within a narrow canyon. He walled the Autobots up within the canyon and began shooting them all. Luckily, Hound arrived on the scene and delivered a powerful punch to his chest, shattering his tape door. Soundwave immediately fled.

Headmasters
Shortly after the arrival of the Headmasters, Soundwave and Blaster engaged in their final clash in the Arctic circle as the Autobots and Decepticons were in the process of searching for the missing Autobot Matrix of Leadership. The two opponents inflicted fatal damage on each other, and Soundwave's body exploded even as Blaster collapsed, but his fragments were recovered by his cassettes. Using reconstructive technology from the planet Master, the leader of the Decepticon Headmasters, Scorponok successfully rebuilt and resurrected Soundwave as Soundblaster - essentially identical to his former self, except for his predominantly black color scheme. As Soundblaster, Soundwave served the same role as he had ever done under the leadership of Galvatron and later Scorponok, frequently embarking on spying missions with Ratbat.

Headmasters manga
After the Decepticons had been vanquished from Earth, Mega Zarak ordered Soundblaster to remain on Earth in secret to act as a spy for the Decepticons. Soundwave made his presence and intentions known almost instantly (not a very good spy) by kicking Wheelie square in the face and taking the Witwicky family hostage. Strangely enough, the Autobots considered these acts to be hostile. Chromedome was left powerless to do anything but surrender, as Slugfest and Overkill brutalized Spike and threatened Carly. Daniel finally snapped and beat the living crap out of the two Cassette dinosaurs, leaving Soundblaster open to Chromedome's poorly named "Master-Chrome Hurricane Throw to the End of Hell!" Chromedome chucked Soundblaster over the horizon where he landed near the rogue Decepticon, Sixshot.
In When Continents Collide, Megatron calls Soundwave a "blundering tape-filled idiot." This is notable because it is hilarious. Also, Soundwave is really, really whiny in these stories.
Soundwave was among the Decepticons who quickly joined Shockwave's forces upon returning to Cybertron. It seems clear, however, that Soundwave had little loyalty to him, as he readily joins up with Starscream when the Seeker decides to return to Earth and take over. Though Soundwave feigned subservience to Starscream, it is later revealed that he had been serving Megatron the entire time in secret.
:In Generation 2, a redeco of the Laser Cycle Road Pig was planned as Soundwave, but ultimately never released, one of many planned redecos that never made it. Some packaged samples do exist.
Trivia
* Though Soundwave's toy is a microcassette recorder, his fictional appearances depict him as a stereo cassette deck or Walkman. (Likewise, his microcassette tapes are depicted as regular audio cassettes.)
* Animation from early Transformers commercials featured a Soundwave model colored in very light blue, versus the dark blue used later. Also, instead of the cassettes ejecting themselves from his chest, he reached into his chest compartment with his own fingers and threw the (tiny) tapes into the air.
* The Marvel US comics chose a purple scheme for Soundwave. This could have been an error, an early look for him that was dropped in other media, or perhaps an attempt to distinguish him from the other Decepticons, who were mostly blue (especially since blacks also ended up as blues in the industry's then-limited color pallette). The Marvel UK comics colored him blue like everywhere else.

* Soundwave's mold was used for one of the generic transformers in Beast Machines and was seen in Nightscream's flashback being cornered by Vehicon drones just before Nightscream fled into the lower levels of Cybertron.
* Later, Soundwave's character model showed up numerous times in various color schemes as a generic background character in Armada.
* Sideways listened to music using a tape deck resembling Soundwave in the Cybertron cartoon. Later, after a new Planet X was found, Cybertron Soundwave held tape deck Soundwave in his arms.
She longs for the return to those days of glory and conquest, but she has little hope of such a thing happening. When the Autobots sent a strike force to destroy his Insecticon cloning facility, Flamewar ambushed and disabled Ironhide and Ratchet, leaving them to Deathsaurus to eliminate. At some point in Cybertron's recent history, the Stunticons were deemed psychotic and too dangerous to function in society, and as a result were placed into perpetual stasis lock inside of a prison facility. Later, in an attempt to create a diversion while he set his final plans in motion, Shockwave arranged for the release of the Stunticons. They formed into Menasor and ran amuck for awhile, until Ultra Magnus arrived and began insulting them. Unable to reconcile with this, the five Stunticons began to bicker with each other over whose fault it was that they were failing, temporarily stopping Menasor and allowing Ultra Magnus to ram the combiner in the chest, forcing him to separate into his component parts and disabling the Stunticons.

Written by: John Grant<br>

Summary
Concerned with a lack of recent Decepticon activity, Optimus Prime has Kup arrange a series of long-range patrols to ferret out the villains. As the reports come back in with no success, it becomes apparent that there is one area of Nebulos that has not been searched – a mysterious region known as the "Nebulos Triangle," where electronics systems malfunction, and Nebulans have vanished over the years. Convinced that the Triangle is the location of the Decepticons’ base, Prime dispatches Quickswitch, Scoop and Quickmix to investigate.

When the trio of Autobots enters the Nebulos Triangle, they quickly lose control of their vehicle mode steering, and have to unsteadily continue on foot. They discover the ground to be metal underfoot, and follow a stream to a massive lake of mercury. While the two Double Targetmasters are left with no option to exit the Triangle to go around the lake, Quickswitch assumes his hovercraft form and heads out across it, only to wind up being sucked into a whirlpool.

Quickswitch finds himself in an underground cavern, but after exploring his puma mode, has to use his drill tank form to make an exit – an exit that leads him straight into the Decepticons' secret underground base! Quickswitch accidentally alerts the Decepticons to his presence when he bumps a stack of fuel containers, and flees to the surface, where he meets back up with Scoop and Quickmix. With the Decepticons hot on his tail, Scoop bulldozes the tunnel, collapsing rocks on the pursing Decepticons, which Quickmix then seals in place with a dose of concrete mixed from the mineral Nebulite. With the Decepticons contained, the trio head back to base to report to Optimus Prime.

*Amongst the patrols of Autobots sent out is a jet with Starscream’s color scheme.
*Visible members of the Autobot patrols include Grapple, Hoist (notable purely for being featured at a time so long after their toys had ceased to be available in shops), a fire engine that’s either Hosehead or Inferno and Landfill.
Decepticons at the Pole is the seventh in the Ladybird Books series of Transformers storybooks.

Written by: John Grant<br>
Illustrated by: Barry Rowell

Summary
Lacking enough energy to assemble a major offensive operation against the Autobots, the Decepticons investigate the natural energy sources of Nebulos, learning that the planet derives the vast majority of its power from a steady stream of cosmic radiation emitted by a pulsar at the edge of the galaxy. Under the supervision of Aimless, a gigantic energy interceptor is assembled at the North Pole, where the pulsar energy is at is most concentrated.

Concerned over the lack of Decepticons attacks in the last few weeks, the Autobots soon discover the villains’ plan, and learn that it will mean the death of Nebulos itself if the Decepticons deprive the planet of its steady flow of cosmic energy. Hot Rod begs Cyclonus to stop, but the Decepticon brushes off Hot Rod’s warnings, forcing the Autobots to take action. A task force led by Brainstorm distracts the Decepticons guarding the interceptor while the small Nebulans attach demolition charges to it, bringing the structure crashing down.

Beginning their scheme again, the Decepticons move their entire base – Scorponok – to the North Pole to ensure the interceptor will be adequately protected. Well aware of their enemies’ movements, the Autobots enact “Operation Heatwave,” formulated by Brainstorm, to put a stop to their energy theft. Taking up strategic positions around Scorponok, the Autobots offer Cyclonus a chance to give up, but when he refuses, they open fire on the permafrost with thermal lasers, melting it into mud and slime. As Decepticon warriors struggle to fight back through the mire, the interceptor collapses and explodes, releasing all the captive energy. When Scorponok himself begins to sink, the Autobots leave their foes to rescue themselves and head back to base.

Items of note
*This is the first book in the Ladybird series to feature Nebulos and the concepts and characters that are associated with it. As with the previous shift in setting, the story of the book itself is set in a time when this new change in status quo is already well-established. However, even the introductory blurb for the book offers little in the way of detail, simply making the point that the war has moved to this “far flung corner of the galaxy.”
*Interestingly, the blurb implies that "many centuries" have passed since the Transformers’ awakening on Earth, suggesting that their Nebulos adventures take place far into the future.
*All indications of this story suggest that Hot Rod leads the Autobots, while Cyclonus is in charge of the Decepticons. Wild.
*Hot Rod’s Nebulan partner - normally known as Firebolt - is here named "Sparks," as in Marvel's Headmasters comic book mini-series.
Autobots Strike Oil is the eighth in the Ladybird Books series of Transformers storybooks.

Written by: John Grant<br>
Illustrated by: Barry Rowell
*Cast (in order of appearance): Kup, Hot Rod, Recoil, Chromedome, Hardhead, Stylor, Duros, Weirdwolf, Monzo, Brainstorm, Highbrow, Apeface, Cyclonus, Slugslinger, Misfire, Snapdragon, Scourge, Crosshairs

Summary
A dwindling supply of lubricants puts the Autobots on the trail of a legendary lake of oil which was lost beneath the surface of Nebulos in a geological upheaval. Hot Rod dispatches Chromedome and Hardhead to search, with Stylor and Duros employing geo-sensors to scan the surrounding territory. Eventually, Duros strikes it lucky and the Autobots unearth the subterranean lake. To hide their discovery from the Decepticons, the entrance to the lake is collapsed, and rather than transport the oil in tankers and drums, Brainstorm conceives a pipeline system to pump the oil direct to the Autobot base. Slowly but surely under cover of night, the Autobots successfully assemble the pipeline, and begin the flow of oil into their tanks.

The Decepticons, meanwhile, have been aware that something has been going on, but, unaware of precisely what, have waited until the completion of the project to strike. Discovering a small section of the pipeline lying exposed in a slender ravine, Cyclonus summons the Horrorcons, who shred the pipe.

Investigating the halted flow of oil, Kup and Highbrow quickly and easily repair the pipe, and Kup collapses a portion of the ravine to hide it from view. But the Decepticons have been lying in wait, and the two Autobots quickly seek cover to avoid their pursuers – unfortunately, the pair stumble into a magnetic desert, where the dust clings to their bodies and weighs them down, and Kup is trapped when he is held fast against a boulder. Heading back to base to get help, Highbrow encounters Crosswise, who takes the simple approaching, blowing up the boulder imprisoning Kup, but this delay allows the Decepticons to pick up their trail. The day is won when the Autobots lure the Decepticons back into the ravine with the pipeline, still coated with oil from when it was severed; the Decepticons lose control on the slippery surface and crash in a tangled heap, allowing the Autobots to escape.

Errors
*Recoil is colored red, instead of black.
*None of the Decepticons chasing Highbrow and Kup, it is said, are fliers. And yet, the only named member of the group is Scourge – a flier. One might assume that the writer was basing this on the fact that Scourge’s toy has wheels.

Items of note
*Although the various Nebulans are referred to as being "partners" with the Autobots and Decepticons in both this book and the previous one, the concept of them being binary bonded together is never brought up. Indeed, the writer appears not to have been aware that this is how the "partnership" worked, perhaps believing that it just meant they worked together – for example, at one stage in this book, while Stylor and Duros are exploring on their own, Chromedome and Hardhead transform to robot mode and are said to look around. Hard to do that without a head, but the artist compensates by drawing the two robots without their noggins.
*This book reveals that, in the Ladybird series, the Nebulans are not organic beings, but are a race of small robots.

Scorponok was a Decepticon commander on Cybertron in 1986, and was a rival of the Autobot Fortress Maximus. He was also the commander of the time-displaced Cyclonus and Scourge.

When the Autobot and his forces fled the war to the planet Nebulos, he and his forces followed, vowing to conquer the new planet. Upon reaching Nebulos, Scorponok manipulated and blackmailed the politician Lord Zarak into working for him and becoming his binary bonded Headmaster partner. This would affect him dramatically, however, and resulted in the alteration of both his and Zarak's personalities.

When Galen decided to leave Nebulos for Earth, Scorponok and his forces again followed, leaving the war-torn Nebulos behind. Shortly after he arrived, his plans were set back when the Autobot Highbrow ripped his head off. The shock left both Scorponok and Zarak out of commission for quit some time while they were separated. Once reactivated, Scorponok found that due to the fractured Decepticon forces on Earth, he had to vie for command of the Decepticon forces against Ratbat, Shockwave, and Starscream. By the end of the Underbase crisis, however, Shockwave had apparently burned-up on atmospheric re-entry, Starscream had exploded from an energy overload, and Ratbat was dead by Scorponok's hand. His command of the Decepticons was assured.

In 1988, Scorponok made Decepticon history as Optimus Prime formally offered his surrender in hopes of making a new force to combat the Dark God Unicron. Eventually, Scorponok agreed to help the Autobots and was brought by Primus to Cybertron to prepare for the ultimate battle.

Scorponok met his fate in this battle as he sacrificed himself to rally his forces against Unicron. In his last few moments, Scorponok realized the nobility of Optimus Prime, and hoped that his sacrifice would redeem him.

Though a Decepticon to the core, Scorponok/Zarak died a hero, defending Cybertron from Unicron, and was called "old friend" by Optimus Prime himself.

Scorponok was a gigantic Headmaster robot built from scratch by Lord Zarak, the dictator of Nebulos, upon learning of the Transformers. Lord Zarak has full control of the giant, which was built from the Hive's underground city. Scorponok itself did not appear to have a mind of its own, though it did have a different voice than Zarak in robot mode.

(The Japanese Headmasters series diverged from "The Rebirth" greatly, completely ignoring the events of the 3-parter.)

Scorponok was one of a group of Transformers who left Cybertron long ago to escape the Great War and took up residence on the planet Master. Chaffing under the leadership of Fortress Maximus, Scorponok and several Headmaster warriors rebelled and were exiled from the planet, joining up with Galvatron and the Decepticons and joining them in an attack on Cybertron in 2011. Scorpnok reluctantly served under Galvatron, but saw his chance to take power when he instigated the destruction of Cybertron, tricking Galvatron into the heart of the explosion, apparently destroying him.

Scorponok subsequently took control of the Decepticons, falsely claiming that Galvatron was alive and commanding him from afar. Enslaving the Beastformers, he had them toil on the Planet Zarak within a dark nebula to construct a giant Transtector for him, and activated it in the midst of his attempt to destroy the planet Mars. Arriving on Mars to battle Fortress Maximus, Scorponok redubbed himself "Mega Zarak" and successfully destroyed the plaet, harnessing its plasma energy for his own purposes.

Believing that his deeds had cemented his position of power, Mega Zarak arrange for a coronation ceremony on Earth's moon so that he could become the new Emperor of Destruction, but in the midst of it, Galvatron returned alive and well and retook leadership. This saw Mega Zarak relegated to the insulting position of interplanetary bus as the Decepticons travelled from world to world, pillaging energy, with which Galvatron planned to fuse himself with the Earth itself. Galvatron did not get the chance to put this plan into action, though, as Mega Zarak abandoned him to face the Autobot Headmasters alone in a battle at the North Pole, buring him beneath an iceberg.

Once again, Mega Zarak was now Emperor of Destruction, and began his assault on Earth, only to be foiled when the Autobots discovered his weak point, behind the Decepticon sigil on his chest. Critically wounded, Mega Zarak had the Decepticons retreat back to planet Master, where he forged the Zarak Shield out of G Metal to combat the Master Sword. The Autobots pursued the Decepticons to Master, and when the two weapons clashed, the Zarak Shield emerged triumphant, and Mega Zarak lead the charge back to Earth, intending to sent it the way of Mars. Operating out of the sunken continent of Lemuria, Mega Zarak raised towers of Crysmag metal all over the Earth, tearing it apart with waves of energy, which he collected in his Transtector and the North Pole. Battling Fortress Maximus, he rigged his transtector to explode and fled the planet, but, bolstered by the energy of his fellow Autobots, Maximus managed to destroy the Transtector before it could destroy the Earth, and the Autobots drove the last of the Decepticon forces from Earth.

Headmasters Manga
Following his defeat at the end of the anime, all the Decepticons were driven away from Earth. However, Mega Zarak managed to leave Soundblaster behind to act as a spy. That didn't last long, as Soundblaster quickly revealed himself to the opposition when he attempted to take the Witwicky family hostage. He was defeated by Chromedome's "Master Chrome Hurricane Throw to the End of Hell".

Masterforce cartoon and manga
:Voice actor: Banjō Ginga (Japan)<br/>

After his defeat on Earth, Scorponok arranged for the reconstruction of his Transtector in a new, smaller, more powerful form with hyper-dense armor, but before he could recombine with it, he was captured by the evil alien energy entity Devil Z and brainwashed into his service. Scorponok was subsequently linked to his new Transtector, not as a Headmaster, but wired directly into the chest. With a new head atop his Transtector's shoulders, Scorponok was now BlackZarak, and returned to lead the Decepticon forces in battle against the Autobots in space.

Devil Z, meanwhile, fostered a war on Earth where human being were merged with Transtectors to become Headmaster Juniors and Godmasters. With the Autobot force increasing in power, Devil Z summoned BlackZarak to Earth, but Fortress Maximus's younger brother, Grand Maximus, made it to the planet ahead of him and warned the Autobots of his coming. In preparation, they constructed Godbomber, who merged with Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai, who could battle BlackZarak in space when he arrived. With Overlord and Grand Maximus thrown into the mix, a showdown on the surface of the moon ensuing, during which BlackZarak was decapitated and fled back into space.

During this extended stay in space, BlackZarak mastered localized gravity manipulation and gained the ability to open black holes, which he used to teleport himself directly to Earth and lead the Decepticons in a series of attacks on major cities. When the Autobots directly attacked the Decepticon base, however, Devil Z merged with BlackZarak, subsisting Scorponok's consciousness, and used his body as a channel for his Devil Power, causing widespread devastation across the planet with its deadly waves. Confronted by God Ginrai in a final battle on the Matterhorn, BlackZarak's body was destroyed through the power of the God Fire Guts, and Devil Z then met his end at God Ginrai's hands.

(Black Zarak is referred to as one of the Nine Great Demon Generals. This terminology, coupled with Violen Jygar's supernatural origins, could mean that Violen Jygar was the one responsible for bringing Black Zarak back to life. Furthermore, it is never revealed whether the resurrected Black Zarak has the consciousness of Scorponok or Devil Z.)

During the reign of the mysterious entity Violen Jygar as Emperor of Destruction, the previously much-dead Black Zarak reappeared as one of the Nine Great Demon Generals. Black Zarak's new appearance seemed to have a serious pirate-vibe going on, with Zarak now having a hook for a hand and an eye-patch.

As a group of Autobot Micromasters chased after the Decepticons who had stolen Planet Zone's precious Energon Z, Black Zarak suddenly appeared in the darkness of space. The Demon-General successfully attacked the Micromasters, on board Countdown's rocket, and managed to trap them in a cocoon of powerful webbing. Black Zarak then disappeared into darkness once more.

:Vector Prime is an Autobot character in the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Vector Prime is Primus's appointed guardian of time and space. 25 million years old, the clockwork-covered Transformer is one of the 13 original Transformers. Despite his age, Vector Prime is very powerful, and can warp both space and time, though excessive use of this power can severely weaken him.

Vector Prime was once a holder of the Matrix of Leadership before he left Cybertron to guard space and time, a lonely job which isolated him from Cybertronian culture for tens of millions of years. Though he has rejoined the timestream on occasion to protect it from large-scale dangers, his extraordinary exile has left him emotionally, culturally, and politically disconnected from his race. He speaks in archaic terminology steeped in chivalry from an age long past and is unfamiliar with the Autobot/Decepticon war. Despite this disconnect, Vector Prime never forgets that these strange modern creatures are the reason he guards space and time so fiercely. It is the miracle of time that allows these precious lives to continue.

Vector Prime has a "Guardian Mini-Con" called Safeguard, and is also responsible for the Recon Mini-Con Team.

Fun Publications Cybertron comic
During the long dormancy of Primus and Unicron at the beginning of time, Vector Prime retreated from the march of history to prepare for when his skills would once again be called upon. From this isolation he watched the greatest victories and defeats of the Transformers race across the various timelines, intervening only when his hand was needed to preserve the balance of time. (For example, Vector Prime helped mend Generation 1 Optimus Prime and repair the timestorm that Predacon Megatron had unleashed in the Beast Wars.) However, the awakening of Primus and Unicron returned Vector Prime to active service, following the wake of Unicron across the multiverse to prevent or restore what damage the Dark God had inflicted with its contaminating presence.

After the Powerlinx Battles, Primus attempted to lock Unicron's essence away in the center of a newborn sun, but this plan backfired and the sun collapsed into a black hole, also known as the Unicron Singularity. This threatened the multiverse itself, so Vector Prime was called back to Cybertron to assist the Autobots in locating artifacts which would destroy the black hole.

During the Autobots' search, Vector Prime would routinely confer with Alpha Trion on their progress. During one such visit, Ramjet and Nemesis Prime, followers of Unicron, attacked them, heavily damaging Alpha Trion and destroying Vector Sigma. It was Ramjet's plan that Nemesis Prime would unleash his Dead Matrix to destroy their Creator, and so the two travelled to the chamber deep within Cybertron that housed Primus' essence. Vector Prime and Sentinel Maximus met and battled them there. Vector Prime and Ramjet's fight left the chamber and ended ultimately high above Cybertron. Though Vector Prime was able to defeat Ramjet and seal him away in another dimension, this act weakened him considerably. The guardian of space and time returned to the Autobots on Earth and left Cybertron in the care of Over-Run, a Mini-Con who had taken the reins of what remained of Vector Sigma.

Cybertron
Special Attacks: Repulsion Field/Action Field, Time Relief

When Vector Prime discovered that Unicron's destruction had resulted in a black hole that threatened existance itself, his role as Guardian of Time and Space compelled him to set forth to fix it using the Omega Lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys, forged from the spark of Primus himself. Of course, the fact that these aincient artifacts were lost several million years ago presented certain problems. As a result, he returned to Cyberton in an attempt to enlist some help, and encountered the charismatic Megatron, who tricked Vector Prime into handing over the Planet Map to the Decepticons. Immediately therafter, Vector Prime realized the Decepticons were actually kind of jerks, and joined the Autobots. Vector Prime was vital to the Autobot cause, as he could create small-scale Space Bridges with his sword, as well as force fields with the aid of his Universal Cyber Key. On one occasion, when Megatron killed Coby, Bud, and Lori, Vector Prime turned back time to save them, although this caused him great strain. Later, he would find the Omega Lock in the spaceship Atlantis, and get it back.

spoiler

In a heroic sacrifice, Vector Prime overloaded his time-travel powers to send the stranded Autobots back to a point before they arrived on Gigantion. Sadly, this incredible strain spelled the end of his physical existance, and he became One With Time Itself. He would not be seen again, but, from Beyond Time, he gave his sword to Optimus Prime in Prime's final battle with Galvatron.

In the "what happens to everybody after the show ended" scenes from the show's final episode, Vector Prime can be seen dueling with Galvatron in what is presumably a Battle of the Dead Guys somewhere in the Allspark.

Real world
At some undetermined point in Vector Prime's life, he took the time to answer a series of questions about himself, other Transformers, and the Transformers: Cybertron toyline in a recurring feature on Hasbro's official Transformers website called "Ask Vector Prime". Because of his mastery of time and space it is impossible to determine when exactly he visited -- or perhaps merely communicated with -- our universe, but it may have been during the course of events in the Cybertron animated series, as he answers questions regarding those events and other characters who he had not met before the series began. Alternatively, he may have answered the questions after the conclusion of the series from within the Allspark, which is known to be a dimensional nexus of sorts.
* Vector Prime (Voyager, 2005)
:Japanese ID number: GC-03

: First released in Japan, Vector Prime transforms into a large cybertronic space cruiser with "solar panel" wings, his shape seemingly taking cues from both the Beast Wars starship Axalon and the Star Wars Sith Infiltrator. His nosecone has a spring-loaded missile launcher at the tip. He is also one of the few early molds in the series to have Mini-Con Powerlinx plugs. Inserting his unique Cyber Planet Key in either mode activates electronic sounds. He comes with his Mini-Con partner Safeguard.

: Vector Prime has some significant differences between the Takara and Hasbro releases. Takara's release uses a matte gray plastic with a lighter, burgundy-tinted brown, uses firmer plastic for his clear-blue parts, and has more intricate paint applications. Hasbro's release has a higher-contrast color scheme of white with chocolate-brown, more flexible clear-blue plastic (for safety reasons), and less-intricate paint applications.

* Vector Prime vs Starscream (Multi-pack, 2005)

: The Vector Prime in this Toys 'R' Us exclusive set is identical to the regular-retail version, even though the Starscream is not only a mold not avilable at normal US retail, but is in an entirely new coloration not used for its Japanese release.

* Vector Prime (Legends of Cybertron, 2006)

: As part of the Legends of Cybertron line, Vector Prime is a miniature, heavily-simplified version of the Voyager-class toy. he was part of the third wave of product, the fist wave to be sold outside of "market six" stores and in "big box" chains like Toys 'R' Us and K-Mart.

: Not to be confused with the Galaxy Force release of Vector Prime, Galaxy Force Vector Prime is a matte gold redeco of Vector Prime released near the end of the Cybertron toyline.
*Vector Prime (Booster, 2006)

: Part of the first assortment of Attacktix Transformers-series Booster packs, Vector Prime is an "Ultra-Rare" 40-point Leader piece that uses a "shield missile" attack. His Special Power allows you to instantly remove up to two of your opponent's in-play Insecticons. Like all Boosters, he was available only in blind-packed sets with two pieces in each box, one Rare and one Super-Rare (your odds of getting a Vector are one in twelve).

: This version uses the Takara coloration of gray with a metallic burgundy; pictures of a more Hasbro-release-like white-and-brown redeco have been shown, but it is currently unknown how this version will be released.

Trivia/Notes
*"Vector Prime" was originally proposed as the name for Sentinel Maximus, going so far as to be the name printed on Sentinel Maximus' shipping cases.

Optimus Prime initially appears on Earth after the activation of the Mini-Con homing beacon, rescuing three human children from the Decepticon leader, Megatron, who got to the planet first. First Encounter

Befriending these children, he introduces his crew of Autobots to them. The children aid Prime as he leads his crew around the world, searching for the long-lost Mini-Con Transformers, before the Decepticon forces can take them and use them for their own evil deeds - such as powering the massive Hydra Cannon, which Prime dies trying to stop. Crisis

Under the leadership of Hot Shot, the other Autobots make their way back to Cybertron, and Prime is resurrected along the way. There is little time to rejoice, as before long, the Autobots and Decepticons must both face the arrival of the great destroyer, Unicron.

After Unicron's apparent defeat, both Optimus Prime and Galvatron succumb to their base natures and have one last battle within the Chaos Bringer. Fighting each other to a standstill, both are surprised when Unicron suddenly comes back to life, feeding off their hate for each other. Galvatron is drawn towards Unicron's maw, with Prime holding onto his tank treads, telling him to hold on. His Decepticon nemesis then makes the decision to sacrifice his life, giving Prime a final victory, so that Unicron may be destroyed and their race will survive.

In the aftermath, Optimus Prime reflects that he doesn't deserve the Matrix of Leadership and leaves both the Autobots and Cybertron for places unknown. Mortal Combat

Upgraded into a new form, Optimus Prime has made peace and teamed up with the humans on earth. He bears the Spark of Combination, which allows those who carry it to combine with others who carry it, too. He soon bestows it upon the majority of his Autobot soldiers, and together they face the return of the evil Unicron...

Facing the peril of his home planet being engulfed by a black hole created by the destruction of Unicron, Optimus Prime (remodelled once again) leads the Transformers to Earth, and thus, to safety, and they begin to look for a way to save their planet, in the Cyber Planet Keys. However, Prime soon finds the Decepticons are back, and they, too, are searching for the Planet Keys.

Dreamwave comics continuity
Armada
Optimus Prime is notified by Hot Shot that the Decepticons are attacking Mini-Con villages. Later on, when the war comes to Earth, he saves the kids from Megatron, who is trying to get the Mini-Cons that they have befriended. After retrieving a Mini-Con escape pod in Alaska, he is suddenly pulled into an alternate reality Cybertron, one in which Unicron has already decimated the planet and is preparing to return and consume it. He is ultimately rescued by Jetfire and Over-Run, and uses his knowledge of the fate that awaits Cybertron to rally both Decepticons and Autobots together and defeat the Chaos Bringer.

Energon
Ten years after the defeat of Unicron, Over-Run showed Prime how to commune with Cybertron itself. Doing so reformatted the Autobot leader into a body capable of Powerlinking with a team of 'drone' vehicles, and granting the ability to combine with each other to other Autobots.

Upon returning to Earth, he decided that the Autobots will no longer hide from the inhabitants, but work with them openly. This decision led, among other things, to the Autobots' induction into the UN.

When last seen (before the bankruptcy of Dreamwave Productions), he was trapped in the remains of Unicron, after Megatron's trapped spark used him to regain his freedom.
*Optimus Prime (Super Base, 2002/2003)
: Japanese ID number: MC-01

: The first Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime toy transforms into a longnose truck cab of made-up model. His clear-plastic smokestacks can detach and form a double-barrelled pistol for robot mode. Prime can also form the upper half of a super robot mode, which can connect to his trailer or to Armada Jetfire in his combined robot mode to form "Jet Prime" or "Jet Convoy" If you own the Japanese Version. The super robot's right hand has an LED in it to light up either of Optimus' hand-held blasters, or the Star Saber sword. He came with his Mini-Con partner Sparkplug. His robot-mode chest can flip down to reveal a non-removable Matrix.

: The toy's primary gimmick is its auto-transforming trailer. When activated, transforming Optimus to robot mode causes the trailer to automatically flip open and form a Mini-Con base, with tower, spring-loaded missile launchers and storage bays, and other Mini-Con Powerlinx-activated gimmicks. Transforming Optimus to super robot half causes the trailer to fold in and stand up, forming legs for the super robot. Some of the base mode's armaments are still available in this configuration.

: Both the super robot mode and the trailer's base mode can have Armada Overload's cannon mode attached for added firepower, becoming Optimus Prime Megaweapon or Magna Convoy.

: The Takara version of Optimus is slightly different from the Hasbro version, using bright yellow plastics in place of the Hasbro's gold.

: The initial Hasbro release of this toy had tabs in its shoulder joints that did not allow the shoulders to rotate above the horizontal default position (So as not to break the wires that ran through the toy's right arm in super mode). Coupled with the limited elbow joints, Optimus Prime could only point his weapons in the direction towards the ground. The tab was not in the Takara version, and subsequent version of the Hasbro release.

: Late in the Japanese run, Optimus toys in Jusco stores came with blind-packed "Space Galaxy" versions of the individual Destruction Mini-Con Team members, one toy per box.

*Optimus Prime (Supercon, 2003)
: Japanese ID number: MC-06

: A smaller version of the Super Base toy, this version of Optimus retains the altmode and coloration, but has no trailer or super robot connectivity (though he can still pull the trailer). He retains the flip-down chest in robot mode, but has no molded Matrix. Instead, the toy is designed for maximum posability. Attaching a Mini-Con to the Powerlinx plus on Optimus' back activates a double-fisted "punching" gimmick. He came with the Mini-Con Over-Run. It's worth noting that this Optimus is the shortest of the Armada Supercons in robot mode. His smokestacks can come off like the Super Base version, but lack the "gun" mode or any other method of connectivity to Optimus.

: The first releases of Supercon Prime had silver roof-lights. Later, the lights changed to yellow, and an Autobot sigil was tampographed onto his hood, but only on the Hasbro release.

: This mold was also used to make Armada Nemesis Prime and Universe Ultra Magnus.

: Shipping in a great many waves throughout most of the later run of the line, Supercon Optimus became a notorious pegwarmer.

: The acronym "STD" in the Japanese release ("STD Convoy") stands for "standard," as in this is the standard toy release of Convoy, without a Super Mode.

*Optimus Prime (Happy Meal, 2003)

*Powerlinx Optimus Prime (Super Base, 2003)

: This is an extensive redeco of the Super Base Armada Optimus Prime toy, with the new colours bearing little similarity to the original colour scheme. Though, the colours of the cab truck are vaguely similar to the Diaclone toy that would become Ultra Magnus. He came with Sparkplug again, though this time his Mini-Con partner got new molding. All of the gimmicks from the first version remain intact in this one, though --as noted-- the super robot mode arms are not as restricted.

*Crystal Convoy (Supercon, 2003)

: A Japanese Tele-V Magazine exclusive, this release of the Supercon-Class Convoy toy has all of parts cast in translucent plastics, hence the 'crystal' title. Available via mail-order, only 5000 pieces were distributed in October of 2003.

: This version of Optimus is supposed to represent his "spark" from when his body was destroyed in the Armada cartoon episode Crisis.

*Battle for the Matrix (Multi-pack, 2003)

: A K-Mart exclusive set released on "Black Friday" (the day after Thanksgiving, the most hellishly busy shopping day of the year), this set consists of Super Base Optimus Prime, Jetfire, their respective partner Mini-Cons Sparkplug and Comettor, the Adventure Mini-Con Team, and oddly enough, Longarm. Optimus Prime's red plastics and paint were replaced with gold, the only changes made to anyone in the set. It is from this set that the name of Optimus Prime's combined mode with Jetfire, Jet Prime, comes from.

*Magna Convoy DX Set (Multi-pack, 2003)

: This set is a Toys "R" Us Japan exclusive, consisting of a slightly redecoed and more show accurate Powerlinx Optimus Prime (dubbed "Convoy Final Battle Coloration"), a "crystal" version of Overload ("Ultra Magnus Special Clear Version") made out of transluscent plastics, and an exclusive X-Dimension redeco of the Street Action Mini-Con Team. This set is entirely "new" content not available in the normal mass-retail Micron Legend line, and is also the last release of "X-Dimension" Mini-Cons.

: Rather than coming with individual bio cards for Optimus and Overload, this set came with a single card for the "Magna Convoy" combination of the two. (And no card for the Street Action Team, oddly enough.)

*Optimus Prime (Built to Rule, 2004)

:Armada Built to Rule Optimus Prime transforms into a fair approximation of his vehicle mode, but the robot mode is quite inaccurate, due to the very broad, flat Trans-Skeleton with thin, stick-like limbs attached to it. The set came with a very simplistic "Mini-Con" Sparkplug partner kit that did have a more dedicated "Powerlinx" connector than the standard construction pegs, though these are a bit too thin to be used as attachment points for regular Mini-Cons (they stay, sort of, but it's a very loose connection). The 101-piece set also features pressure-launch missile-firing "smokestack" cannons.

Energon
*Optimus Prime (Super, 2003, 2004)
: Japanese ID number: SC-01

: Energon Optimus' first toy transforms into a Cybertronic short-nosed truck cab. A swtich on his back alternates between different electronic sound effects, corresponding to his four drone-vehicles. A button on his side also activates electronic sounds and a light in his chest. He also has a spring-loaded missile launcher hand-cannon.

: Optimus' trailer is designed to carry his four drone-vehicles (The "Grand Force" in Japan): Fire-1 (fire truck), Copter-2 (helicopter), Digger-3 (drill tank with gear-wheel-activated spinning drill), and Submarine-4 (submarine). Each of these drones can attach to one of Optimus' limbs to form a variety of super modes (which the Japanee line dubbed "Grand Cross"). The base robot can also combine with Energon Wing Saber to form "Optimus Prime Fight Mode" and "Optimus Prime Flight Mode", and Omega Supreme to form "Optimus Supreme" (or "Powerlinx Omega Supreme", according to the toy packaging). The Omega Supreme combination can also employ the drone-units.

: The earliest releases of this toy had a different head sculpt with an mouth where the faceplate is, similar to Beast Wars Optimal Optimus. It was soon replaced by the more familiar headsculpt with a faceplate. The Takara version of the toy uses the mouthless molding, but also has a chromed front grill, and slightly differnet paint applications here and there.

: A redeco of the super mold was planned to be released with Smallest Transformers Optimus Prime as a Target exclusive, but was cancelled.

*SL Grand Convoy (Deluxe, 2004)
: Japanese ID number: SC-13

: This release of Grand Convoy/Optimus Prime was a small Deluxe-class toy that did not have a trailer, any electronics, nor was it able to form Super Mode. However, it could Powerlinx with compatible Deluxe-class and Mega-class Autobots. Like the Armada Deluxe-Class version of Prime, this one too was on the small side for its sizeclass.

: His clear blue energon weapon is sculpted to somewhat resemble the Optimus Prime Energon Blaster roleplay toy.

*SL Grand Convoy w/ Kicker (multi-pack, 2003)
: Japanese ID number: SS-03

: Grand Convoy was also packed in a set with an exclusive variant of Kicker. This version of the toy has a chromed grill (the standard retail version uses painted plastic) and is suppoesedly uses slightly shinier plastics.

*Optimus Prime versus Megatron (multi-pack, 2004)

: A Toys "R" Us exclusive in the US, though sold at pretty much any retailer that wanted to carry it elsewhere, this was merely the US release of the Deluxe-class Energon Optimus Prime from the Japanese SS-03 set, and the smaller Japanese Megatron toy. There are no appreciable differences between this set and the original Japanese versions.

*Optimus Prime and Overload (Multi-pack, 2005)

: A CostCo-exclusive redeco of the Armada Optimus Prime toy in black, yellow, and brick red, it also came with a redeco of Armada Overload. It is from this set that the name of Prime's combined form with Overload, Optimus Prime Megaweapon, comes from.

*Optimus Prime (Happy Meal, 2004)

:The Happy Meal version of Energon Optimus Prime is much simplified, yet features a very similar transformation sequence. Due to his lack of elbow joints, he arms are always splayed out horizontally.

:He comes with a remote control that can set off electronic sounds from his 'Energon cube'.

*Optimus Prime (Happy Meal, 2004)

*Optimus Prime (Built to Rule, 2005)

: The Energon version of Built To Rule Optimus Prime was designed with a much more solid skeleton with larger, blockier limbs. He can be rebuilt from a Cybertronic truck cab with a trailer-mounted pressure-launch dual-missile cannon (with electronic lights and sounds) to a robot, to basically whatever you feel like doing with the parts.

: Unfortunately, due to the slow performance of the Built to Rule line overall, the Energon versions only had a limited, test market release initially in and around Cincinnati, Ohio. The sets later filtered out into many "Tuesday Morning" chain stores at drastically dropped prices.

Cybertron
* Optimus Prime (Leader, 2004, 2005)
: Japanese ID number: GC-01

:Cybertron Optimus Prime transforms into a heavily-armed fire truck of made up origin. The wings and guns can be rearranged so the fire truck has a flight mode. Like Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime, the forward section of the fire truck detaches to transform into his standard robot mode, while the rear 'trailer' portion becomes a battle station (if you squint).

:The trailer can combine with the standard robot mode to form a massive, winged backpack for the toy's Super Mode. A lever on the back of Optimus Prime's head raises the traditional Prime faceplate, covering his Optimus Primal-style mouth.

:When a Cyber Planet Key is inserted into the large, rectangular electronic rail gun, the panels covering it open up and a different sound effect is played when the firing button is pressed. An LED also lights up. When a Cyber Key is inserted into the cannon that the rifle can attach to, two spring-loaded missile launchers pop out.

:In Super Mode, Optimus Prime can combine with Leobreaker to form "Savage Claw Mode", and Wing Saber to form "Sonic Wing Mode".

* Optimus Prime (Burger King)

* Optimus Prime (Deluxe, 2006)

* Optimus Prime (Legends of Cybertron)

:This very simplified version of Cybertron Optimus Prime has no weapons or trailer, just the front portion of the truck. It transforms into the standard robot mode, with a very similar transformation scheme to the full-sized toy, but cannot form Super Mode.

* Sonic Convoy (multi-pack, 2005)
: Japanese ID number: EX-02

:Sonic Convoy was a Toys R Us Japan exclusive redeco of Galaxy Convoy (Optimus Prime) and Sonic Bomber (Wing Saber). Most of Galaxy Convoy's truck cab parts were cast in translucent blue and red plastic, with the trailer being cast in much deeper reds, more metallic silver and chromed red opaque plastics.

:The only appreciable difference between EX-02 Sonic Bomber and the regular release was that all of his previous vaccum-metalized chrome parts and red painted parts were now vaccum-metalized or chrome-painted red.

:This set also came with Cobybot, a slight redeco of Scrapmetal using the humanoid robot head that is usually discarded when Scrapmetal toys are assembled.

* Galaxy Force Optimus Prime (Leader, 2006)

:Released at the tail-end of Cybertron, Galaxy Force Optimus Prime is a repaint of the Leader-class toy. The main differences are black replaces the blue plastic and blue paint, tinted translucent parts replace the translucent blue parts, and the toy's rifles, rail gun covers, missile launchers and leg guns being cast in red plastic. The unique Matrix-shaped Cyber Planet Key is finally painted gold.

:The shoulders are adorned with the four planet symbols of the Cyber Planet Keys, supposedly to represent Optimus Prime as the leader of all remaining transformers.

:The 'Galaxy Force' addition to Optimus Prime's name is in reference to the journey the character takes at the end of the Cybertron cartoon series, as well as a reference to the japanese version of the cartoon.
Trivia
* According to the Armada Playstation 2 game instruction booklet, Optimus Prime's Armada body has the following statistics:
:Mass: 18,960 lbs
:Robot height: 22' 11"
:Robot top speed: 31 mph
No-one is completely sure where the Scrapmetal drones came from or how they got to be in their current state. Most posit they're a breed of mechanical vermin from Cybertron's lower levels that have been mutated by the effects of the Unicron Singularity. Others think they're the results of ancient cloning experiments by insect-like warriors from a bygone era. Whatever their origin, their current state is painfully clear; there are thousands of Scrapmetal crawling in and on Cybertron, devouring any robot unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Individual Scrapmetal have only a base animal-level intelligence, and by Cybertron standards are small and weak, easily crushed. However, Scrapmetal are almost never witnessed as individuals; only in large swarms who can overwhelm robots far larger than they through sheer strength of numbers, no matter how many of their own dead they skitter over. They appear to follw the orders of a single (barely) sentient Scrapmetal, physically identical to his kin, but just bright enough to make the swarm really dangerous by giving them direction.

: Part of the "Scout"-class price-point, the Scrapmetal transforms into a four-legged "spider tank" with top-mounted cannon. Inserting a Cyber Planet Key into the back end of the cannon swings a removable clear-plastic sawblade-sword from the main chamber of the cannon. In robot mode, the fists can be covered with the tank-mode spikes, or a "pile driver". It comes with a Decepticon-insignia Cyberton-syle Cyber Planet Key. The toy can represent either the mindless drone or Scrapmetal himself, making it ideal for army-building.

: In Japan, three different colors of Scrapmetal were made available; red, blue and yellow, produced in equal numbers. For the Hasbro Cybertron line, at first only the red version was available with a few minor paint application changes. The Hasbro release also has the Key Code sf2x printed on the back of its Key. Later, the yellow version (with all of the paint applications from the Japanese release) was sold in Cybertron as well, this one with the Key Code "s1j5".
: A slight retool and redeco of the toy is used for the Cobybot. For 2006, attendees who signed up for the custom-painting class recieved unpainted, unassembled red Scrapmetals, with their parts still on the manufacturing sprues. Interestingly, both the "regular" and Cobybot-style heads were on these sprues, suggesting that there is a big pile of Cobybot heads behind a factory in China.

Wheeljack is his own worst enemy. Somewhat of a crackpot inventor, a good half of his creations blow up in his face. He's simultaneously one of the Autobots' greatest assets and problems; for every successful gadget he builds, there's one which requires Ratchet to put him (and his lab) back together. But once in a while he strikes gold, which has won him respect from even the Decepticons.

Keeping him from being a complete nerd, Wheeljack is amazing on the road. There's few stunts he can't pull off. He enjoys showing off both on the design table and on the streets.
Wheeljack was one of the original crew of Autobots aboard the Ark when it crashed into the Earth four million years ago. Originally a boxy-shaped transport affixed with retractable bumper-mounted cutting blades, Wheeljack was reformatted in 1984 to be a speedy and rare Lancia Stratos Turbo custom racing car.

Wheeljack was part of the battle unit organized by Jazz to first challenge the re-awakened Decepticons on Earth. He was involved in the battle at an off-shore oil rig, where the Autobots would meet the Witwickys, human workers that would befriend the Autobots. Wheeljack developed an especially close friendship with Sparkplug Witwicky, as the two were gifted mechanics. Wheeljack was next part of the team that attempted to stop the Decepticon plot to overload Sherman Dam.

A restless engineer, Wheeljack has developed all manner of contraptions and equipment for his personal use and for use by his fellow Autobots, often with catastrophic results. He designed the compact yet extremely powerful explosive that nearly trapped the Decepticons in the ruby crystal mines of Burma. Concealed in Wheeljack's left wrist is a fire suppression system, which no doubt came in handy when one of this devices would blow up in his face.

He ultimately met his end during the battle of Autobot City.

Wheeljack has the distinction of being the first Transformer to appear in an episode of the animated series.

Victory
Wheeljack, Perceptor and Minerva were summoned by Star Saber to save the life of the fallen Ginrai. They succeeded, transforming the former transtector into the mighty Victory Leo.

(Note: Wheeljack's not-being-deadness is never addressed. Though to Japanese viewers during the original airings, this was not a noticable discrepancy, as the movie where he died had not been shown in Japan until after Victory had aired. However, the original Movie storyboards show Smokescreen as the dead Autobot next to Windcharger.)

Binaltech
When the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon attack in the year 2005, Wheeljack headed to Earth to arrange the transplantation of Grimlock's mind into a new Binaltech body. On his return journey to the Autobot's moonbase, however, his shuttle was hijacked by time-tossed Decepticon Ravage, who had begun a plan to alter the course of history. Wheeljack was shown a brief glimpse of the near future - including the deaths of himself and many of his comrades - but managed to escape Ravage's clutches; Ravage himself promptly returned to Cybertron and exhumed the Kronosphere, using it to tip the balance of the decisive battle occurring at that time. Whereas the outcome would have originally favored the Decepticons, leading to their total conquest of Cybertron, Ravage ensured an Autobot victory, altering history and leaving the heroes to face the looming threat of Unicron alone.

Aware that history had been altered, Wheeljack was faced with a dilemma - should he stop Ravage's plan and restore the timestream, even though it would mean the death of many Autobots, including himself? His salvation, he hoped, lay in the GT System, a device that allowed a singular spark to simultaneously control many duplicate bodies. Dubbing his original body the "Alpha Unit," he constructed the "Beta Unit" based on Grimlock's Ford Mustang body, as well as the ominous third "Omega Unit," a mysterious body about which nothing is known.

The subsequent arrival of Unicron prompted the Autobots to initiate "Operation: Distant Thunder," which saw Skids use the chronal warp on Dinobot Island to send Wheeljack's memory data back in time, in hopes of alerting the Autobots in the past and preventing alteration to the timestream. Whether or not this mission succeeded is unknown.
Wheeljack is part of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency. He appears to be continuing in his role of technical scientist and gadgeteer for the Autobot detachment; he builds a device that can interface the SM-40 palmtop computer with the systems aboard the Autobots' Ark-17 spacecraft.
Thundercracker claims the skies as his arena. He looks down in contempt on those who cannot leave the ground -- he considers them lesser beings. He will often attack the flightless beings below him for no other reason than to satisfy his scorn.

His superiority in this realm is the only thing he is sure of. Thundercracker is not entirely committed to the Decepticon cause, and even has some seemingly contradictory sympathy for the humans they terrorize. Fear of retribution from Megatron and the influence of his peers is usually enough to bury these doubts. Regardless, he needs constant reassurance that he's where he needs to be. Sometimes, his heart's just not in the job.

Thundercracker was one of Megatron's elite warriors, participating in the attack on the Ark and joining the rest of the Earth-bound Transformers in their several-million-year nap under an inactive volcano. He awoke when the rest of the Decepticons did, and took part in their attempts to gather energon and escape the planet Earth, which he loathed for being too "flat". It was he and Reflector who spotted the first "potential Autobot", when in fact they had discovered the planet's native inhabitants, two humans, in an unliving vehicle.

One of the few things he seemed to loathe even more than the world he was stranded on was the attitude of his commander, Starscream. Thundercracker often started fights with the Air Commander, usually over whether or not Megatron's latest plan was a waste of time (Thundercracker took Megatron's side). At one point, Thundercracker's distaste for "that geeky Starscream" became so strong that he was willing to let Skyfire destroy one of the Decepticons' greatest weapons, just in the hopes that Starscream would get blamed for it! Despite these brushes with treachery, however, Thundercracker just never had it in him to do anything more than complain about his fellow Decepticons.

During the assault on Autobot City, Thundercracker was present and accounted for - he was, in fact, flying the shuttle that Megatron used to attempt his sneak attack. After the battle, Thundercracker was tossed out of Astrotrain with the rest of the injured and weakened warriors, jettisoned for ballast in order to preserve fuel.

That was not, however, entirely the end of Thundercracker's story. Unicron was waiting in space for a chance like this, and when the newly reformatted Galvatron needed some new troops to command, Thundercracker was among the corpses chosen to use as raw materials. It is possible his body was used to create Scourge, and given a new lease on life.

Later Octane would show concern when he runs into a Decepticon crypt to hide from some attackers and finds a statue of Thundercracker there. After paying his respects and apologising for the intrusion, Octane decides it would be better to hide behind someone else.

Machine Wars Toy Bio
The mysterious Machine Wars were a tumultuous time for Thundercracker. At long last he was convinced of and commited to the truth of the Decepticon cause, but Thundercracker now ironically found himself in open rebellion against Megatron's leadership of the faction. It is unknown what events lead to his reversal of heart about the Decepticons and his being branded a "Rebel Warrior." (Since no fictional backstory has ever been established for the Machine Wars line it is possible that it is set in some alternate reality where this was simply Thundercracker's nature, but given that the rest of the characters are clearly their classic G1-selves unrevealed events/character development seem more likely explanations).
Thundercracker operated as part of a Decepticon insurgent cell that had operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, working to destabilize Earth's governing organizations and create global anarchy. He, Runabout and Runamuck were assigned by Starscream to intercept the human Stoker and retrieve his SM-40 palmtop PC, containing data on their Nebraska operation. The team caught up with and killed Stoker outside Phoenix, AZ, but the SM-40 was missing. hundercracker tracked the device to Hunter O'Nion and Verity Carlo, but was driven off by Ratchet, who managed to temporarily lose him and the two Battlechargers. After picking Ratchet up again, Thundercracker was later shot down by Prowl, Sunstreaker and Ironhide.
: Japanese ID number: 24

: Originally a Diaclone "Jet Robo Acrobat-Type", Thundercracker transforms into an F-15 Eagle fighter jet, sharing his mold with his teammates Starscream and Skywarp. Many parts need to be removed completely from transformation from robot to jet and back, which nowadays is considered a major drawback of the toy. It is rare to find it complete, as neither mode can hold all the pieces required. There are a few minor mold variations of this toy (common for the first two years of Transformers, really), the most immediately noticable being that early versions did not have visible "clip-tabs" on the inner face of the gauntlets.

: In 2001, Thundercracker was given a short-run re-issue by Takara as a convention-exclusive item. The toy would later be more extensively released as part of the Hasbro Commemorative Series line, though due to US toy-safety regulations, his missiles were made extra-long.

: This mold is also used by Dirge, Ramjet, Sunstorm and Thrust.

: Released only in European markets, once again Thundercracker was a redeco of Starscream, a non-transforming action figure that combined elements of both the character's cartoon model and toy-form. Like all Action Masters, Thundercracker was a nontransformable action figure with a transformable accessory -- in his case, a Solo Mission Jet Plane vehicle that converted into exo-suit battle armor. However, unlike most of Thundercracker's appearances, Action Master Thundercracker is not in his traditional blue and silver colors, but rather in magenta, purple, blue, gold, and two shades of green. (Oy.)

* Thundercracker (Smallest Transformer, 2004)

: Part of the third wave of Smallest Transformer product (dubbed wave "2.5" and avialable only at CVS stores in Japan), Thundercracker is again a redeco of Starscream. Like all toys in the line, Thundercracker is a tiny, even more simplified version of the original toy, transforming into an F-15 fighter jet. These toys were sold in "blind-packed" boxes, so you could not know which one you had until you actually opened the box. To complicate matters further, Thundercracker was a chase figure, one of two in his wave (the other was a cartoon-colored version of Optimus Prime's trailer).

: The same mold is used by Smallest Transformer Skywarp and Thrust.

Machine Wars
* Thundercracker (Basic, 1996)

: Sharing a mold once again with Skywarp, Thundercracker transforms into a green Dassault Rafale fighter jet with spring-loaded one-step transformation from jet to robot. The two halves of his rifle store in his lower legs. Like all Machine Wars toys, Thundercracker was an exclusive to Kay-Bee stores and related stores like Toy Liquidators.

: This mold is also used by Beast Wars II Dirge and Robot Masters Wing Stun.

Robot Masters
* Skywarp & Thundercracker (Multi-pack, 2005)

: Robot Masters Thundercracker is a redeco of Starscream from the same series, a smaller yet more advanced version of the original toy, adding more articulation and reduing the amount of part-forming required. He was available only in a two-pack with Skywarp, which also came with a Decepticon sigil pin. This set was the very last product released in the Robot Masters line, and wasn't even strictly sold in a box from that series; instead, it used a modified e-Hobby Generation 1 reissue box, with only a small corner tab noting its Robot Masters origin from the front.

Titanium Series
* Thundercracker (War Within)

: This mold was also used to make the Titanium War Within versions of Starscream and Sunstorm.
When Starscream absorbed a portion of the Underbase, New York is one of the three cities he chose to destroy. He announced this, of course, out loud, so when he arrived, an army of Autobots and Decepticons led by Blaster and Ratbat were waiting for him.

24.98.209.224: /* Glandular and digestive */

Throughout the various Transformers canon, there have been several instances of Transformers with humanistic traits and having very human actions that possibly conflict with their status as mechanical robots. Many of these instances can be dismissed as stylistic choices by the artists or as gags not to be taken seriously.

Glandular and digestive
Sweating
* In issue nine of the original Generation 1 comic, Frenzy is seen leaking lubricant from his head during a stressful confrontation with Shockwave (as Shockwave points out), in a manner resembling sweating.

* Numerous times in the Marvel UK comic, Kup can be seen "sweating."

Spitting
* Throughout his term on the Marvel UK comic letters page, Soundwave would regularly spit oil onto the ground whenever humans were mentioned. How he did this through his mouthplate is unknown.

Crying
*A twinkle of light that may not literally be a tear, but is clearly intended to imply one, can be seen in Omega Supreme's eye at the end of "The Secret of Omega Supreme".

*When Optimus Prime dies in The Transformers: The Movie, Arcee is seen to dab at her eyes.

* When pondering Silverbolt's fate in Beast Machines, Blackarachnia is shown to shed a single tear from one of her spider eyes.

* Throughout Beast Wars II and Robots in Disguise, and occasionally in the Armada cartoon, several characters are seen crying in conventional anime fashion.

Flatulence
* In the Beast Wars episode "The Low Road", Rhinox lets out an extreme amount of flatulence after consuming wild bean vines. This could be due to Maximals having organic parts in their makeup.

Intoxication
* In the G1 cartoon episode "Microbots", the Decepticons are noticeably behaving in an intoxicated fashion after consuming a high-grade energon.

* In Beast Wars II, Galvatron gets "drunk" on numerous occasions.

* In the UK comic, the Wreckers frequent a "bar" on Cybertron called Maccadam's Old Oil House, where they consume high-grade energon, presumably for the purposes of getting intoxicated. Dreadwind and Darkwing paid a visit to this establishment in a later story, and got so hammered that they didn't even notice Quickswitch fighting with some Mecannibals.

Body parts
Teeth/tongues/eyeballs
* The Generation 1 cartoon series is the only major piece of fiction to not present Transformers as possessing teeth and/or tongues. The features appear in both the Marvel and Dreamwave comics, the Beast Wars and Beast Machines animated series (where teeth would even be knocked out on occasion), the Robots in Disguise cartoon, and the Unicron Trilogy cartoons and comics.

* One of the most recent examples to carry on this tradition is the Kiss Players manga, in which a Legion character is equipped with a distinctive prehensile tongue.

Questionable body parts
* Nearly all Transformers seem to possess noses for no discernable functional reason.

* In the G1 episode "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide", Powerglide is seen at the end of the episode having the LED outline of a cartoon heart within his chasis. This is somewhat nonsensical within in the context of the show (the contents of Transformers chest cavitites had been shown several times before), and is probably merely meant as a one-off sight gag.

* Alpha Trion, Scourge, and Wreck-Gar all sport "facial hair" in the G1 cartoon.

* Predaking (possibly brought back from the dead) has an organic brain when he is sliced in half in Zone.

Other biological functions
Sleep
* In the G1 comic, Ratchet falls asleep and dreams (or rather, has a nightmare). This goes against established canon for that continuity that Transformers deactivate fully rather than "sleep," a point Ratchet himself makes.

* In the Generation 2 comic, Kup attempts to rouse a vision-struck Optimus Prime by urging him to "wake up" -- then reminds himself that "we don't sleep!"

* In Beast Wars, Megatron has been shown to sleep in the command chair of the Darkside, while his dino head mounted on the end of his arm stays awake, looks around, and smiles slyly. I wonder what it's thinking about...

* Beast Wars II Galvatron often nods off in a narcoleptic-like fashion.

* Armada Cyclonus is quite fond of catching forty winks when possible. Scavenger did the same on one occasion.

Sexuality
One of the most controversial aspects of Transformers is the idea of sexuality. While it is established in most continuities that Transformers do not reproduce sexually, most continuities nonetheless have distinctive male and female characters (with the notable exception of the G1 comic, which explicitly states there is no sexual distinction).

The G1 cartoon brought the first official female Autobots into the canon, including Elita One and Arcee. The characters are noticably more feminine in design and have clearly defined romantic relationships with male Autobots.

The issue becomes more complicated in Beast Wars, where the sexuality line is clearly defined (Blackarachnia has a particularly well defined female figure, including what appears to be an ample bosom). It is hinted on occasion that the robots may engage in activities resembling human sex acts. Rattrap slyly makes a double entendre to Silverbolt regarding his suspected kinky activities with Predacon Blackarachnia, and later makes a comment about going to what sounds like a Cybertonian version of a strip club.
Deathsaurus is a Decepticon in the Generation 1 universe.

Deathsaurus is a savage and cruel dictator, yet he's oddly fond of human children.

The Decepticon Emperor of Destruction, he bears a bitter grudge against Autobot Supreme Commander, Star Saber. He prefers to lead his warriors from a distance, though engages in battle when necessary. Much like a Bond villain, he'll gladly tell you his plan before leaving you unsupervised in a delayed-result death trap.

He commands the Decepticon Space City. Deathsaurus is a Breastforce warrior, meaning he has two detachable breastplates which can transform into the Tigerbreast and Eaglebreast, respectively.

(Note: There used to be much debate over the proper romanization of Deathsaurus' name. In roomaji, the Japanese name reads phoenetically "De-su-za-ra-su". It has been interpretted as Deszaras, Death Czarus, Def Zarce, Deaths 'R' Us, Debt Source, Death's Arse and god knows what else. "Deathsaurus" eventually won out, with the character's first toy ever officially released on Western shores bearing that name.)

Using a clone lab on Ceti Alpha Seven, Deathsaurus wished to revive the fading Decepticon Empire with a vast Insecticon army. After the first batch was completed, his operation was interrupted by a team of Autobot commandos under the command of Ironhide. Deathsaurus overpowered and captured the first wave himself, and soon faced Ironhide one-on-one, while Ratchet attempted to rescue the fallen Autobots. Due to the assistance of Tripredacus Agent Flamewar, these two were defeated and captured as well. They woke up bound inside Deathsaurus' clone lab. The Emperor of Destruction appeared on a television screen, declaring that his use for the lab was completed and was prepared to detonate it remotely with the Autobots inside. Unfortunately for Deathsaurus, the Autobot espionage agent Ricochet not only freed the Autobots before the explosion occurred, but also seeded the remaining clones with a virus, leaving Deathsaurus with nothing to show for his work.
:Part of the BotCon 2005 preregistrant Descent into Evil boxset, Deathsaurus was a blue and black retool of Robots in Disguise Megatron/Galvatron. His head was a new sculpt based on Deathsaurus' appearance in the Victory anime (though Deathsaurus's face seems to be copied from Megatron's). Deathsaurus' mold was originally a nine-changer, though the "gargoyle"/bat mode was neutered for this release due to the dropping of the bat snout piece. His tail came misassembled.

:The first 100 boxset preregistrants received an exclusive Deathsaurus pin.
