:Optimus Prime is the Autobot leader from the Movie continuity family.

Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. Once, long ago, he was co-ruler of Cybertron together with his "brother", Lord Protector Megatron, but Megatron grew greedy and attempted to claim the Allspark for himself. Optimus rose to stand against him. As obsessively as Megatron strives to achieve his objective, Optimus is equally as dedicated to stopping him. Lives must be kept free from the threat of Megatron's tyranny, at any cost.

For generations, Optimus Prime ruled Cybertron side-by-side with Megatron. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the Allspark and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He built a militia from the civilians around him, but they faired terribly against Megatron's armies. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the Allspark into space to keep it from his nemesis.

Thus the focus of the war between Autobot and Decepticon shifted. The Allspark's ejection was only a stall. No longer did Prime have to keep Megatron from stealing the Allspark, instead Prime and his Autobots must hunt down the Allspark, wherever in the universe it landed, before Megatron could. Prime Directives
Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. He has come to Earth searching for the Allspark. Upon learning the Sam Witwicky possesses the means to locate the Allspark, he orders Bumblebee to protect him. When Sam and his female friend are captured by Sector Seven, he decides to pay their bail—by ripping off the roof of the car they're in. Going to the Witwicky house, he somehow manages to avoid being noticed by Sam's parents (who would seriously freakout) and neighbors, despite destroying a water fountain (it was asking for it).

Later, he gets into a fight with Bonecrusher, who hates him more than any other Autobot (saying a lot coming from Bonecrusher).

As the Autobots and human forces are battling Megatron and the Decepticons, Prime rolls in and engages his "brother" in an epic street fight. "One shall stand, one shall fall," Prime states.
:Japanese ID number: MA-05

:Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic comet thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides, and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle', creating the illusion of a flaming comet's tail. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO automorph gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have.

:In robot mode he resembles previous Optimus characters - his angular chest windows are reminiscent of Cybertron Optimus Prime, while his near animalistic limbs and color scheme are evocative of Beast Wars Optimus Primal. He has excellent articulation due to his many ball joints, and is armed with a rifle. The flame attachment can fit onto the end of the (non-firing :( ) gun barrel.

:Some packaging variants of this figure (perhaps a Wal-Mart exclusive) included a free movie poster depicting a Cybertronian eye overlooking Earth. While an added sticker to the outer plastic bubble says "Exclusive movie poster!", it is more of a preview of upcoming figures.

*Optimus Prime (Leader, 2007)

: The largest Movie Optimus Prime toy, Leader Class Optimus Prime features the most accurate representation yet of the CGI designs complex transformation with the only major exception being the arms, wich are supposed to form the front nose of the truck in the CGI model but are here placed right behind the cab. He transforms into a heavily-customized Peterbilt 379 extended hood conventional truck, and unusually for a mainline figure, he has rubber tires on all his wheels. His Ion Blaster weapon is stored in the rear of the truck's bunk, exposed like an engine block. Though Optimus has no trailer, he has hole where the fifth wheel (known among fans as a 'hitch') is sculpted in the rear of the truck, should owners find a suitable trailer to use. Due to safety reasons, the tips of his long smokestacks are made of a soft, flexible material. A switch on top of the cab roof activates horn sounds and window lights.

: Featuring a complex transformation, essentially the front and back ends of the truck fold and converge to become Optimus Prime's legs, as much of the truck rear is connected to the robot thighs via a series of folding panels. The rear wheel cowlings feature a hinge joint in the middle of them so they do not impede his knee articulation. The rear cabin of the cab, directly connected to the smokestacks, rotate and connect to his torso and unfold into his arms. As with most mainline Movie toys, Optimus Prime features Automorph gimmicks, and due to his pricepoint has three of them. Firstly, during initial transformation, rotating his front fenders to become his heels flips the top parts of the grill to become his toes. Secondly, sliding out the the double-barrel cannon in his right forearm flips out his spring-loaded Ion Blaster, which lands into place for his right hand. (The Ion Blaster can actually be popped off his forearm fairly easily, held in place by a simple clip.) Optimus' final Automorph, located in his torso, is activated by flipping the silver lever on his stomach activating a series of spring-loaded actions where they push the truck windows part, raises the lever between them and allows the head to spring up from the chest cavity. At this point yellow LEDs light up the chest windows and Optimus Prime's eyes, accompanied by a 'powering up' sound effect.

: Optimus Prime has a wide range of articulation for a relatively bulky figure. He has ratcheting joints in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with swivel joints and ball joints supporting them in his biceps, lower knee joints and ankles. Again, unusually for a mainline figure, especially at the Leader pricepoint, his hands have individually articulated fingers and thumbs.

: A Target-exclusive repaint of the Voyager class Optimus Prime, this limited edition version boasts a "supermetal finish", resulting in silver metallic paint covering much of his paintable gray/silver plastic, a much higher contrast in his red and blue plastic colors and improved 'flame' paint decorations.

: Unusually for the smaller Voyager-class of toys, Robo-Vision Optimus Prime comes packed in robot mode in a special hexagonal column box with many windows, similar to the original packaging for 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime. The package also includes a Robo-Vision Decoder. Strangely, this Target exclusive preceded the release of the regular Voyager by a large margin, coming out on June 2, 2007 with the initial wave of movie toys.
*Optimus Prime (Legends, 2007)

: Legends class Optimus Prime is an extremely simplified toy of the extremely complex movie design. As such, he features numerous unavoidable inaccuracies, such as not transforming or even looking very much like the original design or the larger toy versions in robot mode. However, proportionally Legends class Optimus Prime is not far off from the real truck and the Leader class toy's vehicle mode, aside from missing a smokestack on the driver's side. he is articulated at the shoulders and upper legs via ball-joints.

*Optimus Prime (Voyager, 2007)
:Japanese ID number: MA-13

:The mid-range Voyager class Movie Optimus Prime toy transforms into an amalgamation of the Kenworth W900 and the Peterbilt 379, making this toy fairly inaccurate to the actual vehicle Optimus Prime turned into. Because of the smaller size and lessened complexity, the Voyager class Optimus Prime features a significantly different transformation sequence compared to the Leader class toy, and indeed, the actual CGI design. However, as the actual truck cabin no longer forms his chest, the cabin now features an small interior with opening doors and a non-removable Peter Cullen driver figurine that flips out of the seat when the driver's side door is shut.

: In robot mode, Voyager class Optimus Prime has a headsculpt that is more accurate to his CGI design than the leader class toy. Due to the aforementioned lessened complexity significant sacrifices had to be made, such as 'cheats' to the transformation sequence, to achieve this and thus he is overall less accurate than he initially appears. In addition to previously mentioned changes, he carries much of the truck's front hood, grill and fenders on his back like a backpack. However, he maintains a superb level of articulation and posability.

: Optimus Prime is armed with two large rifles cleverly formed out of a combination of both smokestacks and fuel tanks. These rifles peg into lower arms with grips for his open hands. The under-slung fuel tanks can fire spring-loaded projectiles. In vehicle mode, both smokestack rifles can be deployed as twin cannons, and this mechanism can also be used to store the rifles and deploy them as shoulder guns in robot mode.
The voice-changer has three settings, giving more accurate alteration of the user's voice (though this is still debatable; most voice changing technology is pretty crummy, at least in toys). Much like the Ultimate Bumblebee figure, this toy will hate your wallet too. ==Summary==
Cheetor, on recon patrol, spots a giant stasis pod (labelled with a big yellow "X") crashed inside a patch of unstable energon deep inside a murky swamp. Optimus Primal and Silverbolt meet him beside the pod, and Primal tells them what the pod means. The stasis pod held "the dark secret of Axalon's journey," Protoform X. Protoform X was created in experiments to make a Transformer spark that could not die, but the subject was treacherous and insane, so the Axalon was to dump the protoform "somewhere far, someplace barren."

Blackarachnia and Waspinator attack, attempting to take Protoform X for themselves. Attacking Silverbolt, Blackarachnia is angry that his code of honor won't allow him to fight back, hitting a female. But Tarantulas arrives and threatens her. Silverbolt defends her, but accidentally ignites the energon that was keeping Protoform X docile, which erupts into an energon storm which scatters everyone for miles.

Blackarachnia and Silverbolt wake up next to each other. They agree to work together, as they are far from their respective teams and Silverbolt's wing is broken. Tarantulas lands next to the pod, and it awakens; his scream echoes for miles. Optimus Primal and Cheetor return to the Axalon, too damaged to search for Silverbolt. Blackarachnia and Silverbolt journey, learning to trust each other, but they are being eavesdropped on by Megatron, who believes that Blackarachnia will turn on the Fuzor when she no longer needs him. However, he's disappointed when it is made apparent (by saving his life from an attacking sabertooth cat) that she may have feelings for him.

Tarantulas' body, in several pieces, is found. Silverbolt notes that Protoform X must have done this. Megatron, still eavesdropping, fashions an energon blade in preparation. Suddenly, they are attacked by Protoform X! Huge and frightening, it knocks them around and is immune to their firepower. Lifting up Silverbolt in its powerful claws, it asks, "Is that fear you're feeling Maximal? My spark, it feeds on terror." Silverbolt screamsin pain as Rampage squeezes him. Silverbolt is freed as Primal and Cheetor arrive and attack, knocking Protoform X off a cliff. However, it transforms into tank mode and ascends the cliffside. Silverbolt throws a feathermissile, knocking him down into another pile of raw energon, but not before Protoform X fires at Blackarachnia, knocking her off the other side of the cliff. Silverbolt jumps after her, unsure if his wing mechanism is healed, but it succeeds, and she is saved, though she escapes. The Maximals return home, and Blackarachnia notes that (with the help of her grappling hook) she could have saved herself, but she wanted to be caught.

Helpless in the pile of raw energon, Protoform X sees Megatron appear over him with the energon blade. X wakes up in the Predacon base to find that Megatron has carved out a piece of his spark, which he keeps in tiny cage that, when squeezed, causes him pain. Megatron has him at his mercy and renames Protoform X "Rampage."
Continuity Errors
*Error

Transformers References
* Rhinox notes, "Primus help us all if that thing survived," which was the first reference to the creator-God of the Transformers outside of the original Marvel comics.
* Protoform X was created as an attempt to duplicate Starscream's "mutant indestructable spark." This is a reference (and a retcon in technobabble jargon) to Starscream's ghost in the third season of the original animated series and, more recently, to Starscream's appearance in the Beast Wars episode "Possession." It also explains why, as Optimus noted in "Possession", Starscream's records were sealed; the Council didn't want anyone else to make the same mistake they did and try to recreate Starscream's spark condition.

Additional notes
* Cheetor's Transmetal body can soak up energon, and instead of seizing up, he can shunt it away from his body in a burst of gas. Primal thinks this is rude, and Cheetor apologizes for "blasting one off." In other words, Transformers can fart. This absorption and release of energon radiation was rarely mentioned in the series.

Theatrical Release
This episode was released theatrically in Japan as the second segment in the Beast Wars Special Super Lifeform Transformers. The episode was included to get fans anticipated for the long-awaited Japanese release of Beast Wars Metals; seasons 2 and 3 of the American series. The episode was undubbed, however, meaning the dialogue was the original English version. There were no subtitles, either.

Dark Glass was an unproduced episode planned for Beast Wars third season, written by Christy Marx.

Episode outline
On February 17, 1999, Larry DiTillio gave the following plot summary:

:"Rattrap salvages a computer bank from the Axalon and in its circuits he and Rhinox find the core consciousness of the old Dinobot. (You will recall Dinobot downloaded this in a previous episode.) Rattrap gets obsessed with the idea that he can restore the old Dinobot by getting it into the new Dinobot's systems. Rhinox tells him this will probably not work, as core consciousness without a spark is only an illusion of the person to whom it belonged. And if it didn't work, it just might give the new Dinobot all the old Dinobot's datatrax on the Maximals which could give the Preds an advantage. Optimus thus forbids the attempt. But Rattrap defies this order, sneaks out and at much risk to himself, does manage to get the core consciousness in place. For a moment the old Dinobot does seem to emerge but, as Rhinox warned, he is only a shadow of his former self and must do everything he can to keep the new Dinobot from regaining control of his body, a weird mental struggle which would have been fun to animate. The old Dinobot knows he is doomed to lose this struggle and tries to 'sacrifice' himself again by infilitrating the Preds and taking out Megatron before he can complete his master plan to destroy the Autobots. It doesn't work and the New Dinobot regains control of his body only to be blasted by Megatron. Rattrap comes to accept that his old pal is truly dead and realizes he cannot bring him back. However he honors his friend's memory."

Details of rejection
Claster, the series distributor, rejected the episode reportedly (through Jon Hartman) because the story did not have enough action ). It has been widely rumored that the episode was rejected for being "too dark". While this may be true, it is also entirely unsubstantiated. The episode got at least a complete first draft script , but was rejected long before any animation or voice recordings would have been done.

Story significance
Fans have extrapolated that this episode would have explained Dinobot's re-emerged personality in the show's final episode, "Nemesis, Part 2."

In that episode, Rampage, whose spark powered the TransMetal II clone of Dinobot, was killed, and his spark extinguished. At the same time, Dinobot II seemed to suddenly remember the last moments of the original Dinobot, and his behavior changed drastically -- speaking of honor, he defied Megatron and essentially switched sides. (Before "possibly" dying again.)

These events are difficult to explain, perhaps especially so without "Dark Glass". The Dinobot II body was a clone of the original Dinobot, but did not (as far as we know) possess his core conciousness, memories, engrams, etc.. Rather, Dinobot II seems to have been a shell program written by Megatron running on top of a fragment of Rampage's spark. In this case, it is unclear why, in the absence of Rampage's spark, Dinobot II would suddenly act more like Dinobot I. However, if the events of "Dark Glass" are taken to have occured off-camera, it becomes easier to understand -- two shell programs and a spark all fighting for dominance over a single body. With the spark gone, the Dinobot I shell may have had an opportunity to take over.

On the other hand, even with "Dark Glass" the picture is incomplete. Dinobot saw visions of the original Dinobot's last moments, his battle with the Predacons in the rift valley at the end of "Code of Hero". These memories could not have been part of the download Dinobot made into the Axalon's computer earlier in the season. For them to surface within him, they must have either been added to the datatrax he was programmed with (by either Megatron or Rattrap), or they must have come from Dinobot's own spark, if that spark somehow left the Allspark and inhabited the cloned body when Rampage's spark departed. All three of these possibilities have their share of implausibility, so it is up to each fan to pick an interpretation that they like to include in their personal canon.

:Dinobot 2 is a Predacon from the Beast Wars portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

A shambling, slavering Frankenstein monster of Megatron's creation, Dinobot 2 is an attempt to recreate the Maximal Dinobot without all that cumbersome honor. Powerful, vicious, and most importantly, loyal, Dinobot 2 is a living weapon to be aimed and released in the Maximals' direction.

Fiction
Animated continuity
Beast Wars
:Voice actor: Scott McNeil (English), Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese)

Created by combining a protoform, cloned cells from the original Dinobot, a part of Rampage's spark, and the energy from the Transmetal Driver Dinobot 2 became a fierce warrior for Megatron. Gifted with powerful abilities (instant healing and most of Dinobot's warrior skills) Dinobot 2 was used for hunting Maximals like Depth Charge and Blackarachnia. Because he had a piece of Rampage's spark, a fact that sometimes confused Depth Charge's sensors, Dinobot 2 was able to squeeze it and keep the powerful transmetal in line.

His most important moments came at the very end of the Beast Wars. After Rampage was destroyed by Depth Charge, something happened to Dinobot 2. Somehow the memories of the original Dinobot flooded into his frame, and more importantly, Dinobot's code of honor came along with them. Unable to shake off these memories and what they signified, Dinobot 2 betrayed Megatron, and refused to assist in the destruction of a village of protohumans using the Nemesis. More importantly, he sent information about an Autobot shuttle to the Maximals aboard the Ark. The Maximals were able to use the shuttle to stop Megatron from destroying the Ark and ruining the future. Refusing to leave the Nemesis as it crashed, Dinobot 2 presumably died a hero just as the original did.

However, writers have hinted that it is possible that, due to Rampage's indestructable spark, Dinobot may have survived. Tho further this claim, there is a rumor that Dinobot was set to return in the cancelled *Transtech.

:(Note: The resurgence of the original Dinobot's memories in Dinobot 2 make more sense in the context of the unproduced episode of Beast Wars, "Dark Glass". In this episode Rattrap would have discovered and downloaded the memories into Dinobot 2, but the episode never made it past a first draft.)

Dreamwave comics continuity
Summer Special
Dinobot 2 attacked Rattrap, tearing him out of the crawler vehicle he was testing. Rattrap's attempts to reason with the remnants of his old friend failed, and the twisted clone prepared to toss him off a cliff. But before he could finish off the Maximal, Bonecrusher rammed him, sending both the clone and the crawler tumbling off the cliff.
: Along with Prowl, Dinobot was part of Hasbro's early experiments in refreshing a line with same-character redecoes. The first few waves of product with Dinobot featured him in a bone-tan and purple coloration. Several waves in, however, he was re-shipped in bright white with blue, his packaging making no mention of this new color scheme.

Transtech was originally planned as the follow-up to the Beast Machines toy-line and cartoon.

Fiction
Story-wise, not much is known. It likely would have picked up on technorganic Cybertron following the events of Beast Machines. A Mainframe CGI animated series to support the line was likely in the discussion stage at some point.

Toyline
The characters transformed into Cybertronic vehicles that in many cases had animal-like features/deco. Cheetor was a Cybertronic race-car with a cheetah-like paint job, for instance, and Prime (confusingly invoking Optimus Primal) was a truck whose front end looked like an ape's face. Designs were done by Draxhall Jump and had somewhat less traditional robot modes (Cheetor had large hoop "wheels" for shoulders and feet, for instance) and didn't always resemble older versions of the character very closely. The overall aesthetic being somewhere in between Beast Machines odder moments and the new 2007 movie designs. Many of these designs were first shown at Botcon 2002 (apperently without Hasbro permission as they were pulled down from the booth halfway through the show) and then subsequently available online.

The line would have included characters carried over from Beast Machines:

*Blackarachnia
*Cheetor
*Nightscream
*Silverbolt

returning Beast Wars character:

*Depth Charge
*Dinobot (Rumored, but no design sketches have surfaced)

returning Generation 1 characters:

*Optimus Prime
*Shockwave
*Starscream

and at least one new character

*Immorticon

Design sketches for a Megatron and a Scavenger of uncertain identity also exist.

The toyline got to the early hard-copy protoype stage, and some prototypes, including Cheetor, Starscream, and Prime, have surfaced. None of them apparently reached a stage of production where real useable molds were created, and so future release is extremely unlikely.

Cancellation
The reasons for Transtech's cancellation remain unknown for certain, though over the years a number of possible reasons have been speculated, among them: negative fan reaciton to Beast Machines, conflict with Mainframe, difference with Takara, or simply a desire to go in a new dirction. The most likely explanation is not a singular culprit, but a number of corresponding culprits, perhaps culminating in the closing of Hasbro's Cincinnati offices and departures of staff, followed by the subsequent relocation to Hasbro's central offices in Rhode Island.

The cancelation of Transtech lead to the Japanese "Car Robots" cartoon and toyline being imported as a stopgap measure while Hasbro and Takara began to work together to jointly create and launch the Armada line.
