[[MYA|Millions of years ago]], a young Optimus Prime fought with a great Decepticon warrior known as [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]]. So frequent were their clashes, and so familiar were they to each other, the pair eventually became friends, and Scavenger signed up with the Autobots. Seeing great potential in the young [[Autobot]], Scavenger taught Optimus Prime how to fight in hand-to-hand combat. {{storylink|Trust (Armada)|Trust}} Ascending to the position of Autobot leadership, Optimus led his armies against the [[Decepticon]]s in the war for the [[Mini-Con]]s, until the small robots expressed a desire to leave the planet, hoping they could take the war with them. Optimus and the Autobots helped the Mini-Cons escape Cybertron aboard [[Exodus (Armada)|a spaceship]], but the war on Cybertron raged on even without them. {{storylink|Prehistory}}

A million years later, in the year 2010, a beacon from the planet [[Earth]] alerted the Transformers on Cybertron to the fact that the Mini-Cons had reawakened there. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Optimus Prime led a small Autobot unit consisting of [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] (specifically chosen for the mission by Prime due to the recent loss of his friend [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]] {{storylink|Past II}}) and [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] to the planet, leaving his [[second-in-command]] [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] in charge of the Autobot forces on Cybertron. {{storylink|Prehistory}} Prime departed for Earth via [[space bridge]], appearing on the planet only moments behind his arch-foe, Decepticon leader [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]]. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Optimus immediately engaged Megatron in battle, buying time for the villain's three human targets—[[Rad White]], [[Carlos Lopez]], and [[Alexis Thi Dang]]—and the Mini-Con they had befriended, [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]], to escape. Megatron and Optimus's troops proceeded to warp in to join the battle, but the Decepticons soon retreated, and both sides were left to set up bases and scan alternate modes in order to begin their search for Mini-Cons. The three children, now having awakened the entire [[Street Action Mini-Con Team (Armada)|Street Action Mini-Con Team]], were the Decepticons' first targets, but Optimus and the Autobots came to their rescue again. {{storylink|Metamorphosis}} Optimus used his Super Mode's firepower to see the Decepticons off, and brought the children back to the Autobots' base to explain the history of the Transformers and their mission on Earth. {{storylink|Base}}

Soon afterward, a Mini-Con activation signal drew the Autobots and Decepticons to the [[Grand Canyon]], where Prime found himself outmatched by Megatron thanks to the additional power of the Decepticon's Mini-Con partner. Thanks to an intervention from the Street Action Team in their combined form of [[Perceptor (Armada)|Perceptor]], Optimus was able to activate the Mini-Con panel, revealing that its occupant was his old Mini-Con partner and friend, [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]]. Powerlinked together, they activated Optimus's powerful Maximum Blast which sent the Decepticons into retreat. {{storylink|Comrade}} The Autobots' next mission took them to [[Antarctica]], though they suffered a bit of a false start when Prime's drive system failed upon arrival, and he needed Red Alert to repair it. As the Autobots then split up to search for the Mini-Con, Optimus was absent for most of the battle with the Decepticons that erupted, but his late arrival into the fray tipped the scales in the Autobots' favor. {{storylink|Soldier (episode)|Soldier}}

Unable to haul his trailer through the forest that was the hiding place of the next Mini-Con panel, Optimus left it in the care of Sparkplug while he and the other Autobots began their search. Unsurprisingly, the Decepticons soon turned up and set the forest aflame, leaving the Autobots unable to fire back due to Optimus's concern that they would damage the environment. The kids and Mini-Cons were able to extinguish the forest fire by hooking Optimus's trailer up to a nearby lake, and although the Autobots failed to keep the Mini-Con out of Decepticon hands, Optimus assured them all that they had done the right thing. {{storylink|Jungle}} Sadly, the Autobots' next battle, in the [[Sahara]] desert, also ended in failure. {{storylink|Palace}}

A different challenge would face Optimus when Rad and Carlos' schoolyard antagonists [[Billy (Armada)|Billy]] and [[Fred (Armada)|Fred]] were kidnapped by the Decepticons and ransomed for all the Autobots' Mini-Cons. Optimus was forced to agree to the exchange, and although Megatron reneged on the deal, Hot Shot managed to win the day by freeing the kids. With their cover blown, Optimus and the Autobots accepted Billy and Fred into their circle of human friends. {{storylink|Confrontation (episode)|Confrontation}} [[Image:Underground optimus truckmode.jpg|left|thumb|250px]] It was then back to Mini-Con hunting, this time in the subway tunnels of a large city, whose maze-like construction confused Optimus and nearly led him into a head-on collision with a speeding train. Optimus's team once again lost the Mini-Con to the Decepticons, but they gained a new team member: [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Smokescreen]], who had gotten lost during the space bridge transit to Earth, and who protected the kids from [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]]. {{storylink|Underground}} Next, Optimus carried the kids inside his watertight cabin when the Autobots headed into the ocean depths on the quest for a Mini-Con lost in the ruins of an ancient [[Atlantis]]-like civilization. When the Decepticons attacked, a blast from Megatron ruptured Prime's seal, but he was able to get the kids to safety inside the ruins before returning to the fight. After telling Rad a more detailed account of the history of the Transformers' war, Optimus led the Autobots to a volcanic island in search of their next Mini-Con, using his trailer's firepower to fend off the Decepticons as he headed into a narrow tunnel to recover the panel. A sudden volcanic eruption opened a fissure beneath the Autobot leader's feet, but this allowed him to avoid the lava flow that covered the island's surface and get the drop of the Decepticons, allowing the Autobots to at last claim another Mini-Con for themselves. {{storylink|Prehistory}} As with one of the other panels they had recovered, however, this Mini-Con would not awaken because it was part of a set of three. The Decepticons were in possession of the third panel, and soon invaded the Autobot base to complete their collection. Forced to order a shut down of the internal defense lasers to protect their human allies, Optimus gathered up the panels in his hands and tired to get them to safety, only for Megatron to catch up to him, awakening and combining the Mini-Cons into the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] sword. Optimus was able to blast the blade from Megatron's hands, and Hot Shot used it to beat the Decepticons into retreat. {{storylink|Swoop (episode)|Swoop}}

When Optimus's old tutor Scavenger arrived on Earth, it was not a happy reunion: his friend had now taken on a new life as a mercenary, and was now selling his serves to the Decepticons. {{storylink|Overmatch}} The Autobots also soon gained a new member in [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]], who helped Optimus's team recover the Mini-Con [[Spiral]] in a highway battle. {{storylink|Gale}} Unfortunately, appearances were deceiving: while Optimus and Smokescreen were searching for a Mini-Con during the next battle, Hot Shot and Sideways were inadvertently warped away to the Decepticons' moonbase, where Sideways revealed himself to be a traitor and stole the Star Saber for the Decepticons. {{storylink|Credulous}} Fortunately, the next battle proved that Scavenger's alleged Decepticon alliance was also a ruse: Optimus had actually been employing him as a spy within the Decepticon ranks, and as that mission had now come to an end, Optimus welcomed him back into the Autobot fold. {{storylink|Conspiracy}} Prime's trust did not immediately assuage the misgivings of the other Autobots, but Scavenger soon proved himself to them on the battlefield when he saved Prime from plummeting into a chasm during the Autobots' next Mini-Con hunt. {{storylink|Trust (Armada)|Trust}}

When the Autobots went on vacation to a lake only to be caught up in a flood, Optimus Prime helped saved some human lives by blocking the flow of water with his body. {{storylink|Vacation}} Soon after welcoming the antisocial Blurr to the team, {{storylink|Reinforcement}} Optimus was challenged to a pitched battle in the desert by Megatron, now wielding both the Star Saber and the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]]. Though helplessly outmatched by the power the Mini-Con weapons conveyed on his eternal enemy, Optimus fought bravely, and was able to use a distraction to disarm Megatron of the Skyboom, but was then nearly run through by the enraged Decepticon leader. At the last moment, Sparkplug threw himself between the combatants and summoned the Skyboom to protect Prime; when shield and sword collided, an incredible reaction resulted, producing a beam of light that shot off into space. With the shield in Autobot hands, the Decepticons retreated. {{storylink|Decisive Battle}}

Prime barred the kids from the Autobot base while he concocted a strategy that would allow the team to use the Skyboom against the Decepticons, but his plans were preempted when the Decepticons lured the Autobots into a trap, splitting them up by warping them individually to different locations of past battles. In the Sahara once more, Optimus was confronted by Megatron and a small legion of Mini-Cons; chastened by Rad's warnings, Optimus was unwilling to fire back at the attacking Mini-Cons, and this act of restraint was enough to convince the Mini-Cons to turn on Megatron. {{storylink|Vow}} It was not long before Prime and Megatron met in battle again, though the outcome of that particular clash went undocumented. {{storylink|Rebellion}}

The sudden deactivation of [[Laserbeak (Armada)|Laserbeak]] prompted Optimus to break off a battle to return to base and discover what had happened to the kids. Discovering that they had been sucked into cyberspace by Sideways, the Autobots safely extricated them, but their tale of an encounter with another evil force within the cyber-realm deeply perturbed Optimus. {{storylink|Chase (episode)|Chase}}

After Optimus used the Skyboom to help secure another Autobot victory, the Decepticons' new tactician [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] put together a plan to lure the Autobots into a valley, separating Prime from the group and wiping him out. The scheme would have succeeded, if not for the sudden arrival of Jetfire on Earth, who foiled Thrust's plans. {{storylink|Tactician}} Jetfire took over leadership of the Autobots while Optimus's injuries were being repaired, but his cocksure attitude soon saw him lured into another of Thrust's traps. In defiance of his wounds, Prime warped into the battlefield, where he and Jetfire [[Powerlinx|powerlinked]] to form "Jet Prime" and sent the Decepticons packing. {{storylink|Linkup}}

A rare moment of downtime was used by the Autobots to begin repairs on their base, though Optimus was no better at the task than Hot Shot was. {{storylink|Detection}} Soon after, during a battle at a shoreline, the Autobots had a new menace to face when the Decepticons were joined by the monolithic [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]], against whose power not even Jet Optimus could stand. {{storylink|Awakening}} Forcibly separated from Jetfire during the battle, Optimus was sent plummeting to the ground at deadly velocity, was but saved by the timely awakening of the three Mini-Cons who formed the [[Requiem Blaster (Armada)|Requiem Blaster]]. Wrestling the blaster away from Thrust, Prime saved himself by firing its beam into the ocean below, slowing his descent. {{storylink|Desperate}} [[Image:Sacrifice.jpg|left|thumb|250px|This Salute is to Smokescreen.]] The three new Mini-Cons reluctance to fight made Prime hesitant to employ them in any further combat situations, but he soon had the choice taken out of his hands when the kids helped the Mini-Cons run away. Prime hit the road to look for them, and when he found they had become targeted by Thrust, used his Super Mode to scare the Decepticon off. {{storylink|Runaway}}

When the Autobot greenhorn [[Side Swipe (Armada)|Side Swipe]] arrived on Earth, Optimus charged a discontented Hot Shot with supervising him. {{storylink|Past}} Unfortunately, the extra manpower did not prevent the Autobots from falling into a Decepticon trap: lured into a battle with [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] in a jungle, Optimus and his team were unable to prevent their enemies from attacking their base and stealing the Requiem Blaster. Smokescreen was fatally wounded by the blaster and died with Optimus at his side, {{storylink|Sacrifice}} but fortunately, his Spark survived, and he was rebuilt as "Hoist". Simultaneously, Starscream arrived at the Autobot base, having abandoned the Decepticons, and petitioned Prime for a place among the Autobots. A display of genuine comradeship from the Star Saber Mini-Cons prompted Prime to agree. {{storylink|Regeneration}}

Using Starscream's information, Prime led the Autobots in invading the Decepticon moonbase and rescuing all the captive Mini-Cons, but he and Starscream clashed briefly when the ex-Decepticon temporarily refused to obey his order to withdraw. {{storylink|Rescue}} Prime agreed with Jetfire's decision to detain Starscream when his insubordination continued on a mission to [[Mars (planet)|Mars]], {{storylink|Mars (episode)|Mars}} but continued to look upon their alliance as a means of better understanding the differences between Autobot and Decepticon, encouraging Hot Shot to do the same. Alas, the manipulations of Thrust shattered the burgeoning trust, and Starscream stole the Skyboom Shield and returned to the Deceptions.{{storylink|Crack (episode)|Crack}}

With all three Mini-Con weapons now in Decepticon hands, the villains united them to create the [[Hydra Cannon]]. {{storylink|Threaten}} Preparing a preemptive strike to destroy the Decepticons' warship before the cannon could be turned upon the Earth, Optimus, featuring he would not survive, attempting to pass the [[Matrix of Leadership]] to Hot Shot, but the young Autobot refused. Accepting his decision, Optimus departed on the mission with Jetfire, but the two found themselves badly outnumbered, and Optimus's only option was to hurl himself in the path of the cannon's planet-destroying beam. Using the power of the Matrix, Optimus halted the beam and saved the Earth, but at the cost of his own life: as the beam died out, his bleached body crumbled away to space dust. {{storylink|Crisis}}

Accepting now the role Optimus had tried to pass on to him, Hot Shot led the Autobot in into space in pursuit of the Decepticons aboard the [[Axalon (Armada)|Axalon]], now joined by all the Mini-Cons of Earth, their powers fully awakened. During a confrontation with their enemies, the Mini-Cons united their powers to resurrect Optimus from within the Matrix, and the reborn Autobot leader used all the power of his Super Mode to end the battle. {{storylink|Miracle}} No sooner had the Autobots welcomed their leader back than their ship was pulled through a black hole to a dead planet, where they were menaced by a twisted clone of Optimus named [[Nemesis Prime (Armada)|Nemesis Prime]]. Prime ended his dark doppelganger's threat with the added firepower of his new weapons system, [[Overload (Armada)|Overload]]. {{storylink|Puppet}}

The Decepticons proceeded to beat the Autobots back to Cybertron, but this was the least of Optimus Prime's worries: learning from the Mini-Cons of the existence of an ancient evil named [[Unicron]], Prime attempted to convince Megatron—now upgraded to Galvatron through the power of the Mini-Cons—of the necessity of an alliance, to no avail. {{storylink|Uprising}} While Prime was left to co-ordinate the Autobot resistance as best he could {{storylink|Dash (episode)|Dash}}, Thrust and Sideways stole the Requiem Blaster and Skyboom Shield, {{storylink|Drift (episode)|Drift}} using them to begin the reawakening of Unicron, who was revealed to be Cybertron's own moon. {{storylink|Portent}}

Having experienced Prime's leadership first-hand, Starscream realized that an alliance was the only way forward, and so threw himself into the middle of a battle between Prime and Galvatron and sacrificed himself to convince Galvatron of the reality of Unicron's threat. Swayed by his lieutenant's death, Galvatron moved to hand the Star Saber over to Prime, only for Sideways to snatch it away at the last second, using it to complete Unicron's reactivation. {{storylink|Cramp}} In a formal ceremony before all their troops, Prime and Galvatron shook hands, uniting the Autobots and Decepticons into an armada that struck at Unicron together. {{storylink|Alliance}}

Their forces unable to damage the dark god's exterior, Optimus Prime and Galvatron decided to venture inside his body, where they immediately came under attack by his internal defenses. {{storylink|Union}} Working their way to the chamber containing Unicron's "heart", they were captured by the chaos-bringer, and offered the chance to merge with him willingly. Optimus's refusal prompted Unicron to accuse him of lying to himself, telling him that he had always loved the thrill of war as much as Galvatron, and that the only thing that distinguished them was the Matrix in Prime's chest. As they all tried to escape Unicron's dormant body, however, Galvatron challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. {{storylink|Origin}} Prime agreed, discarding the Matrix so that he could prove Unicron's analysis of him wrong, but as the fight raged, both combatants succumbed to their base natures, fighting the most ferocious clash of their history. The negative energy of their battle reawoke Unicron, and he began to draw everything nearby into his maw. Prime held tight to Galvatron, trying to save his life, but Galvatron was unwilling to live in a world where peace was the only option, and forced himself free of Prime's grip. Galvatron disappeared into Unicron, and with their battle concluded, the flow of negative energy ceased, causing Unicron to vanish in a flash of light.

In the battle's aftermath, the Matrix of Leadership floated by Prime in space, but, feeling that he had only proven Unicron correct, Prime considered himself unworthy of carrying it. While the other Autobots and Decepticons, still united, set about rebuilding, Prime, his armor returned to its normal hue, embarked on a soul-searching voyage through space. {{storylink|Mortal Combat}}

A few years after the defeat of Unicron, Optimus Prime returned from his self-imposed exile to a newly-unified Cybertron where Autobots and Decepticons lived side-by-side in peace. Reassuming leadership of the Autobots, Prime took on a new body and established a dialogue with Earth's governments with the help of his human friends. [[Brian Jones (Energon)|Doctor Brian Jones]] came to Cybertron to meet with Prime and discuss potential new energy endeavours the two races could work together on, but his son [[Kicker Jones|Kicker]] was frightened by the robots and ran away. Prime followed the boy to an abandoned part of Cybertron, and discovered him in the chamber of the reawakened [[Primus]], the creator-god of the Transformers, who endowed Kicker with the ability to sense [[Energon]]. Using Kicker's powers to detect Energon deposits, the united Autobot-Decepticon-human federation set up numerous [[Cybertron City (city)|Cybertron Cities]] in Earth's [[solar system]] over the next few years to mine the mineral. Sometime after this, Primus bestowed upon Optimus the [[Spark of Combination]], giving him the ability to combine with his new drone vehicles, the [[Prime Force]]. Prime began personally training new Autobot recruits, including the hotheaded young [[Ironhide (Energon)|Ironhide]].

In 2020, Optimus Prime personally led a team to investigate attacks on the Cybertron Cities in the [[asteroid belt]] and on [[Mars (planet)|Mars]]. Finding no life remaining on Mars, his unit then moved to Earth, where Prime saved Kicker and [[Ocean City]] from an attack by the culprits, the bestial [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]], who had been sent to steal the cities' Energon by their master [[Alpha Quintesson|Alpha Q]] so that he could revive Unicron. {{storylink|Cybertron City (episode)|Cybertron City}} Fearing future attacks, Prime agreed to the evacuation of Ocean City, then led a counterattack against the Terrorcons when they assaulted [[Lunar City]] on the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. Before the battle, he assigned the headstrong Kicker to be partners with Ironhide, suspecting that the experience would be difficult but beneficial for both of them. {{storylink|Energon Stars}}

As attacks on Earth continued, Prime led the Autobots in battling the Terrorcons at [[Desert City]], but he was dismayed to find that the Decepticon troops under his command had begun to abandon the cause of unity, having been promised the resurrection of Megatron in return for their service. {{storylink|Scorpinok}} A second attack on Mars City forced Prime to make a difficult call, leaving the Autobots there to fight alone out of fear that the Earth would be attacked if his team left to help. His suspicion was proven correct when the Terrorcons besieged [[Plains City]]; during the battle, Prime discovered that the Terrorcon leader [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] was wielding a [[Energon Sword|sword]] that was pulsing with the evil essence of Megatron, leading him to fear that his old enemy was indeed still alive. {{storylink|Megatron's Sword}}

With Terrorcon attacks continuing, Optimus had his Prime Force drones upgraded by Doctor Jones. {{storylink|Cybertron City (episode)|Cybertron City}} This upgrade proved timely, as it was not long before Optimus again found himself face-to-face with Megatron, reborn through the power of Energon. {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}} In a subsequent battle at Ocean City, the two threw down with all their power, but Optimus was able to emerge triumphant when the [[Omnicon]]s provided him with a copy of Megatron's sword. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}} Megatron was also not the only old foe to return: Optimus soon found himself stalked by the ghostly Starscream, sent to assassinate him by Alpha Q. To prevent interference or collateral damage, Prime lured Starscream to the moon, and in the battle that followed, he learned of Starscream's master's plan to revive Unicron. On edge and battle-ready after the assassination attempt, Prime was quick to lead his team into the asteroid belt when he suspected the Decepticons were operating from a mobile base there. Though the Autobots destroyed the base, its similarity to Unicron only worried Prime more. {{storylink|Battle of the Asteroid Belt}} The need for Prime and the Autobots to leave the Earth and investigate the potential return of Unicron fortunately coincided with Doctor Jones's development of [[Energon Tower]]s, which could project a grid of Energon that would protect Earth in the Autobots' absence. {{storylink|Energon Tower}} Constructing the towers was not the easiest task: during the endeavour, Optimus Prime was forced to order a detonation that wiped out Jungle City and some ancient archaeological ruins to fend off the attacking Decepticons, {{storylink|Crisis in Jungle City}} battled Megatron once again at Lunar City, {{storylink|Kicker Beware!}} and led a space-based defense against several giant "comets" that Megatron had created to destroy Earth, which was ultimately saved by the final completion of the Energon grid. {{storylink|Energon Grid}}

With Earth secure, Optimus and his team departed Earth, to pursue and destroy Unicron before Megatron could revive the planet-eater. {{storylink|Rodimus Friend or Foe?}} A Decepticon attack failed to stop them from leaving Earth's [[solar system]] aboard the ''[[Miranda II]]'', though Prime only narrowly narrowly avoided getting caught by the ship's Energon grid during the fight. {{storylink|Go for Unicron!}} Hoping to find Unicron by using Kicker's Energon-finding abilities, Prime's team was first lead into a misadventure on a frozen planet, {{storylink|The Return of Demolishor}} and soon after crossed paths with [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]], an Autobot leader who had left Cybertron 8,000 eons ago, shortly before Optimus had ascended to the position of supreme Autobot commander. Rodimus shocked Optimus with his declaration that Unicron must not be destroyed, instead claiming that if the planet-eater was allowed to be restored using Energon, Alpha Q could in turn re-create all the worlds he had destroyed. Unconvinced, Optimus turned down the offer of an alliance, and Rodimus went his own way. {{storylink|A Tale of Two Heros}} Unfortunately, this meant Prime's Autobots arrived to late to stop Megatron from reactivating Unicron, and Optimus was forced to carry out his plan to lure Unicron into the space bridge, teleporting him to Cybertron, where the planet's Energon grid massively damaged him. {{storylink|Battle Stations}}

Unicron's appearance caused the Decepticons on Cybertron to rampage, so Prime led a team to the planet's surface {{storylink|Alpha Q: Identity}} where they failed to stop the escape of the Decepticon criminal [[Shockblast]]. Greater concerns soon emerged when Rodimus returned, and his and Optimus's dispute escalated into a battle between the two until Kicker talked them down and convinced Prime to hear Alpha Q out. {{storylink|Shockblast: Rampage}} Moved by Alpha Q's tale of his lost home planet, Prime agreed to his plan, though his concerns at the danger Unicron still posed were quickly proven to not be without merit as the chaos-bringer began reflexively attacking everything within his body in what Optimus recognized as blind survival instinct. {{storylink|Survival Instincts}}

Prime returned to Cybertron's surface to lead the planet's defense as Megatron attacked again, and was present to witness prison guard Wing Dagger's death at the hands of Shockblast. {{storylink|Each One Fights...}} Prime subsequently led his team in a direct counter-attack against Unicron, seeking to infiltrate it and defeat Megatron inside. {{storylink|Unicron Unleashed}} Prime was fully prepared to face down his enemy in a one-on-one showdown, but instead was ambushed by a vengeful Shockblast and left damaged. Rather than face defeat, Megatron triggered a catastrophic Energon reaction, ripping [[Rift (Energon)|a hole in the fabric of space]] and fleeing into it. On the other side of the rift, Optimus and the Autobots found [[Alpha Q's Realm|Alpha Q's solar system]] being reborn as recreations of his original homeworlds slowly grew through the power of Energon, radiating from the sun which Unicron's disembodied head had become. The battle to protect these Energon-rich worlds from Decepticon attacks started immediately; when Kicker and Ironhide went to investigate [[Iron Planet]] after sensing Energon there, Optimus's team went to search after them, only to run into Shockblast. Optimus let Wing Saber loose to avenge the death of [[Padlock (Energon)|Padlock]], resulting in Shockblast's recapture. Optimus and his team were investigating the rift when the Decepticons attacked [[Jungle Planet (Energon)|Jungle Planet]], were forced into a space battle that kept them from stopping the Terrorcons' pillaging. The fortunate arrival of [[Bulkhead (Energon)|Bulkhead]], [[Downshift (Energon)|Downshift]], and [[Cliffjumper (Energon)|Cliffjumper]] allowed Optimus, combined with Wing Saber, to break away and make it into the planet's atmosphere; although they were met with a relentless bombardment from Megatron, Optimus was able to blow him out of the sky and teach him a lesson about how the Autobots' teamwork granted them greater power. {{storylink|Jungle Planet (episode)|Jungle Planet}} Realizing that if Bulkhead's team could make it through the rift, other object could too, Optimus sent Hot Shot and Downshift to obtain Energon Towers from Doctor Jones that they could use to protect Alpha Q's planets. Prime was initially surprised to find his troops had halted their duties for a little R&R on [[Circuit Planet]], but when he learned that Rodimus had signed off on it, he decided to join the "[[Autobot Grand Prix]]" himself. Combined with Wing Saber, Optimus threw himself into the race as the final obstacle on the track, and proved enough of challenge to front-runners Hot Shot and Ironhide that [[Misha Miramond]], riding [[Arcee (Energon)|Arcee]], snuck past to steal the win. {{storylink|Crash Course}}

Contacted by Doctor Jones with news of the awakening of the legendary warrior [[Omega Supreme (Energon)|Omega Supreme]], Optimus Prime requested requested more Energon Towers be sent in preparation for Megatron's inevitable reawakening of Unicron. Omega Supreme and [[Roadblock (Energon)|Roadblock]], the reborn Inferno, arrived with Energon Towers just as this occurred and hurled them at Unicron, but only caused minor damage. {{storylink|Omega Supreme (episode)|Omega Supreme}} With the Energon grid no match for Unicron's power, Prime, Rodimus and Wind Saber attempted to enter the chaos-bringer's body in order to stop him from recovering his head, but Prime was badly damaged in the attempt. As Unicron successfully extinguished the Energon sun and reclaimed his head, Omega Supreme revealed that he had the power to combine with Optimus as "Optimus Supreme". {{storylink|A Heroic Battle}} In this new form, Optimus headed up a renewed offensive against the restored Unicron, but found himself faced with a new opponent in the form of the maddened Shockblast, who had attempted to usurp Unicron's power from Megatron had been driven insane. With the remaining Decepticons arrested and Cybertron back in Autobot control, Optimus was placed in an Energon tank to heal. While slumbering, Prime had a vision of a [[Super Energon Temple]] beneath Cybertron's surface, and awoke to find the planet besieged by Megatron and the Terrorcons. {{storylink|Ambition}} While Optimus and his team battled on the surface, Megatron was guided by Unicron, whose intelligence still lived within him, to the subterranean temple and upgraded into Galvatron once more by the power of the [[Super Energon]]. He and a similarly upgraded Starscream began destroying Energon towers, unleashing green Energon gas, toxic to Autobots. While trying to save Kicker from the gas, Optimus collapsed, though he would be saved by Jetfire and repaired by the unlucky guardian of the Super Energon pool, [[Superion Maximus]], who asked to join the team. {{storylink|Wishes}} The Autobots withdrew to the ''Miranda II'' in orbit, but the ship was soon shot down by the Decepticons' newest recruit, Shockblast's brother [[Six Shot]], who believe Optimus Prime was responsible for killing his sibling and sought revenge. Optimus and Cliffjumper tried to steer the ship into a controlled crash, but when that failed the two were rescued by Omega Supreme and Superion Maximus. {{storylink|Galvatron!}} Soon after, Optimus's crew were able to return to Cybertron's surface when a team of Energon-immune Omnicons shut down the Energon gas. Another battle between Prime and Galvatron was soon to erupt, prematurely ending when Six Shot released more Energon gas on them all. Optimus and Superion Maximus kept [[Bruticus Maximus (Energon)|Bruticus Maximus]] and [[Constructicon Maximus]] busy in battle while two separate Autobot teams rescued their allies around the planet. Six Shot tried to take another shot at Optimus with the Energon grid but was beaten by Galvatron for insubordination, allowing Prime and Superion to escape. {{storylink|The Omega Train}} In a later battle, Six Shot finally succeeded in taking Prime down with the Energon Grid, but Superion came to his rescue before the Decepticons could finish him off. With a little help from Wing Saber and his Prime Force, Optimus then beat Galvatron and his forces back with his "Meteor Attack". {{storylink|Decepticon Army}} Continuing to evade the Maximus combiners, Terrorcons and Energon gas all the way, Optimus's team made it back to the surface and faced off with Galvatron's Decepticons once again just as Ironhide's team succeeded in re-energizing Primus, in turn restoring Prime's ability to combine with Omega Supreme. Linking up, the pair used a whirlwind attack to clear the battlefield of Decepticons. {{storylink|Ironhide Team}}

Transported via space bridge into Alpha Q's realm by the Decepticons, the gas-enshrouded Cybertron began moving through the system, destroying the planets there by bringing its atmosphere into contact with theirs. Calling on Primus to help him, Optimus Prime was enveloped in light that once again transformed him into a planetary-scale giant, allowing him to stop Cybertron's forward motion with his bare hands. This task accomplished, however, it became apparent that Prime was powered not just by Primus, but by the dark power of Unicron that existed within all Transformers, as he began to strike at the planet. Rodimus was able to snap Optimus out his frenzy, and he returned to normal size. {{storylink|Formidable}}

After an Energon recharge on Ocean Planet, {{storylink|Galvatron Terror}} Optimus returned to Cybertron just in time to witness Galvatron growing to gargantuan proportions following a second exposure to Super Energon. With Primus asleep once more after Prime's most recent growth spurt, Omega Supreme believed they would be unable to combine, but Optimus now knew he had another power source to draw upon: The power of Unicron. Drawing on the dark god's strength, Optimus and Omega Supreme combined and began attacking the gigantic Galvatron to little effect. {{storylink|Destructive Power}} [[Image:Spark optimus possessed by unicron.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] Galvatron departed for space and Optimus gave chase, drawing on Unicron's power even more to transform himself into a giant so he could battle Galvatron on equal footing. The two titans brawled on the surface of Jungle Planet, but as the fight raged on, Optimus began to fall prey to the violent impulses the power of Unicron caused. Luckily, he was able to shake off the effects long enough to taunt Galvatron into such a fury that he too became enraged enough to break free of Unicron's influence. Themselves once again, the two leaders unveiled new heights of their powers, growing even larger, with Optimus gaining the appearance of Optimus Supreme combined with the Prime Force drones. The two titanic leaders battled until Prime opened his Spark of Combination and absorbed from Unicron's essence out of Galvatron, returning them to their normal sizes. {{storylink|Spark (episode)|Spark}}

Nearly dead, Optimus's spark called out to the other Autobots, drawing them to Jungle Planet where they all combined their Sparks of Combination with his, restoring his power and giant stature. Following Omega Supreme across space, the re-powered Optimus arrived to find that Galvatron had become possessed by Unicron's spark and grown gigantic yet again. Optimus and Omega combined to form "Ultimate Optimus Supreme" and battled the Unicron-possessed Galvatron while Primus fashioned a new energon sun for Alpha Q's planets from the remaining Super Energon. Too proud to admit defeat, Galvatron broke out of Unicron's control and plunged himself into the energon sun, igniting it and seemingly destroying himself and Unicron. With Galvatron and Unicron's death, the Autobots delinked from Optimus, and Rodimus stated that things were finally over; Optimus replied that it was a new beginning of a new universe. {{storylink|The Sun}}

At some indeterminate point, the Autobots played a training simulation game which pit them against each other and Decepticons in a fighting tournament. Though Optimus and Wing Saber lost to Rodimus and Hot Shot, Optimus and Omega Supreme easily defeated the Decepticon combiners. In the final round, Optimus again faced off against Rodimus and Hot Shot-but following a flashy combination sequence with Omega Supreme that ended in the two landing outside the ring, they were immediately disqualified. {{storylink|Distribution}}

At some point over the next ten years, Optimus Prime and Wing Saber were involved in an attempt to save the life of a stranded space-farer in the [[Chaar asteroid belt]]. The pair were able to safely navigate the asteroids by combining into "Sonic Wing Mode", but Wing Saber, tired of Optimus's command, left the Autobot ranks some time later. {{storylink|United}}

In the year 2030, the energon sun that Unicron's spark had been trapped in collapsed, freeing the still-living Megatron, and turning into [[Unicron Singularity|massive black hole]] that threatened to consume first Cybertron, and then the rest of creation. When attempts to close the black hole failed, Optimus Prime realised there was no choice but to evacuate the population of Cybertron to Earth, and had Jetfire scout ahead to gather alternate mode data, including a new fire truck form for Prime himself. As preparations for departure were being made, a mysterious time-travelling Transformer named [[Vector Prime]] appeared, advising Optimus to search for the long-lost [[Cyber Planet Key]]s, which could restore Primus's power and allow him to close the black hole. Unconvinced of even the existence of the keys, Prime put the safety of his people first, and was one of the last through the space bridge to Earth. {{storylink|Fallen (episode)|Fallen}} Upon arrival, Optimus immediately set out with [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]] to search for the missing Landmine, another of his old teachers who had educated him in the art of [[Metallikato]]. Prime forced to break his own strict orders to hide from the human population in order to save the injured Landmine and three human children he had befriended from [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]]. {{storylink|Inferno (episode)|Inferno}}

With help from the children—[[Coby Hansen|Coby]], [[Bud Hansen|Bud]] and [[Lori]]—Optimus and the Autobots set about constructing a base on Earth. The Decepticons nearly discovered its location, but Optimus and his team held them off while the kids finished the stealth coating that kept it hidden. At the battle's end, Optimus Prime had the power to summon a [[Cyber Key]] awakened in him by Vector Prime, {{storylink|Haven}} [[Image:Hidden optimus cyberkeypower.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] which he later used for the first time to fell Starscream in a mid-air battle. Further attempts to seal the black hole proved fruitless, and Optimus agreed that Vector Prime's plan to search for the Cyber Planet Keys was the only hope they had left. {{storylink|Hidden}} After the Autobots discerned the co-ordinates to the resting place of the first Key, [[Velocitron]] the Speed Planet, Prime used his Matrix of Leadership in concert with Vector Prime's [[Rhisling|sword]] to open a [[dimension gate]] to the planet, and sent Hot Shot and Red Alert through as an advance team. {{storylink|Landmine (episode)|Landmine}} Prime then led the other members of his team on a search around Earth for the [[Omega Lock]], the focusing device for the Keys, {{storylink|Space (episode)|Space}} thwarting several attempts by the Decepticons to hobble their quest along the way. {{storylink|Rush}} {{storylink|Speed}}

When [[Mount McKinley]] outside of the children's hometown of [[Rockville]] threatened to collapse and displace an underground reservoir that would flood the town, Coby had the idea of using Optimus Prime's pumping equipment to drain the reservoir, allowing the mountain to be safely brought down. {{storylink|Collapse}} When a mission to the Sahara to recover what the Autobots believed to be the Omega Lock turned out to be another wild goose chase, {{storylink|Time}} Prime permitted the civilian Autobots to join in the search, which quickly turned up the co-ordinates of the second Cyber Planet Key world, the [[Animatron|Jungle Planet]]. Prime dispatched [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Overhaul]] to this new world, after which word came in of a new clue to the Omega Lock's location at the bottom of the [[Bermuda Triangle]]. {{storylink|Search}} Prime and his team battled the Decepticons in the ocean depths while Vector Prime and the kids investigated, discovering the Cybertronian starship ''[[Atlantis]]'', resting place of the Omega Lock, buried in the seabed. When the ship activated, Prime raced Scattorshot back to the surface ahead of it, so he could hide it from human detection with jamming signals. The ship promptly disappeared, {{storylink|Deep}} but Optimus quickly deduced that it had warped to the far side of the moon and tracked it down. Within the ship, Prime battle Megatron for possession of the [[Omega Lock]], and emerged victorious. {{storylink|Ship}}

With the Omega Lock in Autobot hands, Optimus Prime travelled to [[Velocitron]], discovering that Hot Shot and Red Alert had broken his rule of non-interference, and that Hot Shot was preparing to enter a race that would net them the [[Planet Cup]]—the diguised form of Velocitron's Cyber Planet Key—if he won. Initially angry at Hot Shot, Prime attempted to make planet leader [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] see reason, but when she dismissed his pleas, he agreed to let Hot Shot race. {{storylink|Hero (episode)|Hero}} Though he harbored no illusions of winning himself, Prime even took part in the first round of the race, helping to stymie the Decepticon competitors [[Ransack (Cybertron)|Ransack]] and [[Crumplezone (Cybertron)|Crumplezone]] where he could, and making sure Hot Shot qualified by using his own body as a ramp to give the young Autobot the extra room he needed to make the final jump of the race. {{storylink|Race}} Out of the race as a consequence of not finishing the first round, Optimus instead put his skills to good use in the second leg of the tournament by putting out a fire caused by Ransack and Crumplezone. {{storylink|Detour (episode)|Detour}}

Leaving Hot Shot to train for the third leg of the race, Primes Optimus and Vector were tricked into heading to Jungle Planet to check in on Overhaul by the sneaky Sideways. Upon arrival, they were immediately assaulted by a giant, monstrous plant, but were saved by Overhaul, who had been reformatted into Leobreaker by the Jungle Planet's Cyber Planet Key. Prime petitioned Jungle Planet's dictatorial leader [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]] to hand the Cyber Planet Key over peacefully, but Scourge had already fallen in with Megatron, and proposed a battle to determine his decision. Leobreaker's anger tapped into the Planet Key once again, and through its power, and he and Optimus combined into "Savage Claw Mode", Leobreaker forming a massive arm for the Autobot leader that allowed him to easily defeat Megatron. {{storylink|Savage}} Optimus and Leobreaker then used this new power to best Scourge in combat when they were tricked into fighting by Sideways. Learning that Coby had smuggled himself to Velocitron, Prime allowed the boy to stay and watch the final race, {{storylink|Sand}} then returned to the planet himself in time to use Savage Claw Mode to lay Megatron low when he tried to steal the Planet Cup after Hot Shot's victory. With the virtue of the Autobots' mission and the evil of the Decepticons proven to her, Override requested permission to join the Autobots, which Optimus granted. {{storylink|Champion}}

Afterwards, Optimus, Leobreaker, and Vector Prime returned to Jungle Planet, where they quickly dispatched Ransack and Crumplezone and made their way to Scourge's temple. {{storylink|Ice}} Scourge insisted that they obey the customs of his planet and engage him in combat rather than debate, and seeing no other option, Prime finally acquiesced. {{storylink|Honor}} In preparation for fight, Prime returned to Earth to get tuned up by Red Alert, then headed back to Jungle Planet for the brawl. Scourge seemed to gain the upper hand when he damaged Prime and Leobreaker's combination joint and forced them to separate, but Leobreaker simply recombined on the opposite site, as Prime's left arm, and together they triumphed over Scourge. Scourge handed over the Cyber Planet Key, as well as leadership of Jungle Planet; while Optimus took the former, he turned down the latter. {{storylink|Primal}} Megatron's forces then attacked, hoping to snatch the Key, but Optimus duped the Decepticons with a shell game, hiding the Key in one of several boxes which he distributed among the Autobots. Prime entrusted the box containing the Key to Leobreaker, and when Megatron deduced this, Prime went to his comrade's aid so they could merge, only for them to be blindsided by Starscream. Before Megatron could deliver the killing blow, Prime's Matrix interacted with the Cyber Planet Key and opened up a space bridge that brought all the other Autobots through from Earth, forcing the Decepticons to retreat. {{storylink|Trust (Cybertron)|Trust}}

Returning to Earth, the Autobots placed the Jungle Planet Key in the Omega Lock, causing the activation of a mysterious signal somewhere in the [[Arctic]]. Optimus, Jetfire, Leobreaker, and Landmine headed there to investigate and discovered the containment site of [[Ancient Decepticon|ancient Decepticon colonists]] lost on Earth. Unfortunately, the Autobots were unable to stop Starscream, who had rebelled against Megatron, from freeing the ancient Decepticons and collapsing the cavern on top of them. {{storylink|Trap}} Starscream proceeded to begin an invasion of Earth to search for its Cyber Planet Key, while the other Autobots dug Prime and the others out. {{storylink|Invasion}} Refusing to reveal the existence of the Autobots to humanity at large, Prime tried to fight Starscream's forces covertly, but that failed when he took a blast meant for the ancient Earth Autobots [[Crosswise (Cybertron)|Crosswise]] and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] and the Autobots had to withdraw. {{storylink|Invasion}} Seeing no other recourse, Optimus instructed the Autobots to abandon Earth for Velocitron, taking the Earth's Key with them, but Starscream caught wind of their plan and assaulted them on the space bridge. Only Optimus, combined with Leobreaker in Savage Claw Mode, could stand in the determined Decepticon's way, but when Starscream instead opened fire on the watching humans, Prime was forced to abandon the Lock and Keys to his evil clutches in order to save them. {{storylink|Retreat}}

When Optimus and his troops engaged Megatron's forces at [[Niagara Falls]], Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot were fatally wounded, {{storylink|Revelation (episode)|Revelation}} but were restored to life in new, more powerful forms by the power of Primus. They returned to the battle to hold Megatron off so Optimus, Vector Prime, Evac and Override could take a dimension gate to Starscream's island base. {{storylink|Critical}} Fighting his way through ancient Decepticons and with Megatron hot on his heels, Prime soon found himself with some unexpected back-up in the form of Wing Saber, who had just arrived on Earth. {{storylink|Assault}} Delayed by Scourge and Sideways, Prime was unable to stop Starscream from tapping the Omega Lock's power, and could only watch as the treacherous Decepticon grew to towering proportions. {{storylink|Starscream (episode)|Starscream}} When Starscream used his new powers to levitate a barricade of rocks to block Prime and Wing Saber's attacks, the pair were reminded of the Chaar asteroid belt incicent, and Wing Saber proposed combining. Despite a faulty start and Optimus' doubts that it would work, the two successfully merged into Sonic Wing Mode, darting through the rock barrier and bringing Starscream to his knees. {{storylink|United}}

With the threats on Earth disposed of, the Autobots returned to Cybertron, where Megatron attacked them and stole the Omega Lock. Megatron fled into his [[fire dimension]], but Optimus Prime followed, and they engaged in a battle so fierce that the wall between dimensions was ruptured, and Optimus was able to escape back to Cybertron with the Lock, ordering Vector Prime to open a dimension gate across the portal, thereby collapsing the dimension in on itself. Megatron attempted to tear his way free, but Prime blasted him with the combined power of the Omega Lock and Vector Prime's sword, apparently destroying him. Following this, Optimus and the Autobots placed the Omega Lock in an altar, and Optimus supplemented the energy of his Matrix for the missing fourth key, which triggered the transformation of the planet into the body of Primus himself. {{storylink|Cybertron (episode)|Cybertron}} The transformed Primus immediately became a target for Starscream, but Prime and Wing Saber combined to fend the giant Decepticon off. {{storylink|Balance}}

Preserved by his [[Armor of Unicron]], Megatron returned from beyond death and created his own dark clone of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], with whom he could combine to form "Dark Claw Mode". Combining with Leobreaker, Prime challenged Megatron; the clash of the two Claws produced such a huge explosion that it could be seen from space. {{storylink|Darkness (episode)|Darkness}}. Optimus fought Megatron to prevent him from claiming it, resulting in another gigantic collision between the two Claws. {{storylink|Memory}} Eventually, Prime and Leobreaker determined that Megatron, combined with Nemesis Breaker, was on too equal a footing with them and fled. Prime finally broke his secrecy protocol when he returned to Earth with Vector Prime to back Coby and Lori up when they revealed the truth of the Transformers and Bud's kidnapping to their parents. Prime extolled the virtues of his human comrades and requested that Coby and Lori be allowed to travel to Gigantion with him. Stunned, their parents agreed. {{storylink|Family}}

In order to prevent the further expansion of the black hole while they were away, Optimus again added the power of the Matrix to the Omega Lock, which re-energized Primus enough to fire a beam into the singularity's heart and halt its growth. {{storylink|Titans}} The Autobots then departed through the wormhole aboard the Velocitronian starship ''[[Ogygia (Cybertron)|Ogygia]]'', where, following a battle with the ''Atlantis'', Prime and his team combined their Cyber Key Powers to clear a safe path for the ship by blast clean through a huge asteroid. {{storylink|Warp}}

Arriving on Gigantion, Optimus and the Autobots quickly befriended friendly natives [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] and [[Quickmix (Cybertron)|Quickmix]], but were soon attacked by Megatron and his new allies, [[Menasor (Cybertron)|Menasor]] and [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]]. Optimus merged with Wing Saber to battle Soundwave in the skies, while Metroplex bested Megatron soundly with [[Sparkdrinker]] axe. {{storylink|Giant}} His raw fury over the defeat allowed Megatron to tap the power of the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key remotely, once again powering himself up into Galvatron, but Optimus Prime was (just barely) able to force him into retreat when Metroplex gave him Sparkdrinker to fight with. {{storylink|Fury}} After rescuing Bud and the Mini-Cons from the ''Atlantis'', Optimus gave his approval to Coby and his [[Cobybot|secretly-modified Scrapmetal]], and allowing it to be used on the Autobots' mission down into the bowels of Gigantion in search of the Cyber Planet Key. Separated from Optimus's team when he fell through a secret passage, Bud crossed paths with Scourge and gave him a lecture on how to be a good leader without having to resort to violence. Actually learning from the boy, Scourge challenged the Autobots to a duel one after the other; Optimus was his final opponent and, combined with Wing Saber, he took down Scourge, though was a bit wounded himself. Collapsing but happy, Scourge admitted defeat. {{storylink|Scourge (episode)|Scourge}} Following this, Prime's group finally made it to the lowest layer of Gigantion, but when they were confronted by Galvatron, Optimus was summarily crushed after refusing to allow Wing Saber to combine with him out of concern for his safety in the face of Galvatron's fearsome power. The other Autobots all teamed up against Galvatron to stop him reaching the Cyber Planet Key, to no avail; fearing his leadership had brought doom to his comrades, Optimus was on the verge of mental collapse until Vector Prime brought him back to reality with a punch to the jaw and the assurance that his concern meant he was a ''good'' leader. Recovering the Gigantion Key, the Autobots placed it in the Omega Lock, which caused a spacebridge back to their universe to open in the sky above the planet. Before they could depart, however, Galvatron returned, stole the lock, and fled through the portal, which disintegrated behind him, trapping the Autobots on Gigantion. {{storylink|Showdown}} Optimus suggesting building a new space bridge generator, but when that only succeeded in summoning a horde of [[Laserbeak drone]]s from [[Planet X (Cybertron)|Planet X]] from somewhere beyond space and time, Vector Prime proposed to use his ability to turn back time to reopen the Skeleton Nebula wormhole. Realizing this would kill Vector Prime, Optimus immediately vetoed the idea, but Vector Prime explained the true magnitude of the black hole's threat, which made his sacrifice a necessity. While the Autobots boarded their ships, Primes Optimus and Vector shared a somber moment on a mountainside at sunset, saying goodbye and thanking each other for their partnership. As the ships took off, Vector Prime turned back time and opened the warp gate; the entirety of his strength used up by the act, his body disintegrated, and Optimus led the Autobots in salute for their great comrade. {{storylink|Guardian (episode)|Guardian}}

Back in their home universe, Optimus Prime led the ''Ogygia'' back to Cybertron/Primus, where Galvatron was using the Omega Lock to control the black hole, pulling the Jungle Planet from its place in space. Optimus combined again with Wing Saber but was no match for the powered-up Galvatron, only surviving the clash when the Transformers from all the four colony worlds arrived to support him, prompting a Decepticon retreat. {{storylink|Homecoming (episode)|Homecoming}} With all four colony world leaders at his side, Optimus Prime pursued Galvatron into the black hole, where together, they triumphed over the Decepticon leader. In the struggle, however, the Cyber Planet Keys were separated from the Lock, and each planet leader went to grab one while Optimus—with Coby acting as another set of eyes—chased down the Omega Lock before it could reach the singularity's core. When all seemed lost, Vector Prime's spirit emerged, guiding Optimus Prime's hand towards the Lock and helping him grasp it. The Lock and the Keys then combined with Primus, fully restoring his spark, and allowing him to close the black hole once and for all. Although peace had descended on Cybertron, Optimus Prime was unable to rest easy knowing Galvatron still lived, and his fear were soon made manifest when the Decepticon leader returned to challenge him to one final battle. While the other Autobots—and even the Decepticons, tired of losing—helped safely return Jungle Planet to its system, Optimus and Galvatron battled on Cybertron's moon, which seemed poised to end with Optimus's defeat as all his troops watched. At the last moment, Vector Prime's planet map emerged from Bud's pocket and flew into the path of Galvatron's sword, flooding the battlefield with light. A vision of Vector Prime appeared before Optimus, and granted him a gift: from the glowing sphere of the map, Optimus drew Vector Prime's sword. Glowing golden with the light of the Matrix, he used the blade to finally end Galvatron's threat once and for all, impaling his body and dissolving it into cosmic particles. {{storylink|Unfinished}}

Some time later, Optimus called for an intergalactic peace conference among the Transformers' colony worlds, where he proposed that rather than seal away the Omega Lock and Cyber Planet Keys, they fulfill their ancestors' dream of building the universal space bridge. Optimus announced that he would lead the mission himself, initially aggravating Jetfire, who believed this would leave Cybertron without a commander—until Prime appointed Jetfire himself to the position. The colony starships were assembled for launch, and Bud gave Optimus the planet map, asking him to return it to Vector Prime if they ever met again. Boarding the ''Atlantis'', Prime ordered the ships to lift off, and they launched into space. While Optimus held the planet map, it glowed once more, and Prime saw out in the sea of stars the face of Vector Prime, who smiled upon them. Optimus called for the engines to be put at full throttle, and the Transformers blasted off into deep space, on course for new adventures.

Optimus also expressed to [[Anti-Blaze]] his hopes that the Cybertronians and the [[Mini-Con]]s would live together in peace, like on [[Gigantion]].

Realising that they were only making the conflict worse, the Mini-Cons made a pact with the Autobots to leave the planet in a [[Exodus (Armada)|starship]], {{storylink|Prehistory}} but Megatron struck as the tiny 'bots were leaving, attacking with the full force of the Decepticon fleet in an attempt to capture all the Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. The damaged Mini-Con ship warped away, and crash-landed on the planet [[Earth]]. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Alas, the Mini-Cons' absence did not abate the war; in one battle among the many that followed, Megatron discovered the abandoned Autobot [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]] pinned by rubble in the midst of an inferno, and saved his life in exchange for his loyalty. {{storylink|Past}}

In the year 2010, Megatron led a small team of his Decepticons to Earth when a signal beacon from the planet reached Cybertron, alerting the Transformers to the reawakening of the Mini-Cons. Megatron was first on the scene, warping directly to the signal's point of origin, where he discovered that one of the Mini-Cons, [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]], had befriended three human children. Before Megatron could seize the Mini-Con for his own, his arch-enemy [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] appeared to stop him. {{storylink|First Encounter}} Megatron and Optimus battled, with the rest of their troops arriving to join the fight, but eventually, the Decepticon leader called for a strategic retreat. The Decepticon forces withdrew to Earth's [[moon (moon)|moon]] to investigate the shorn-off portion of the Mini-Con ship that had landed there, which they quickly repurposed as their base of operations; amid the lunar dust, Megatron discovered and activated a [[Mini-Con storage panel]] that was revealed to contain his old Mini-Con partner, [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]]. With the added power of a Mini-Con now giving him an edge over the Autobots, Megatron had his forces reconfigure their vehicle modes—with Megatron himself adopting a tank form—and led them back to Earth to gather more. When the Autobots intervened, Megatron was unable to stop Starscream from obtaining the prize for himself. {{storylink|Jungle}} This put Megatron in a foul(er) mood, and he took it out on Demolishor when the underling nearly stepped on Leader-1. {{storylink|Carnival}} Demolishor redeemed himself when Megatron later led the Decepticons in battle in the [[Sahara]], successfully retrieving a Mini-Con which Megatron then forced him to hand over to him. {{storylink|Palace}}

Megatron next attempted to strike at the Autobots through their human friends, arranging for their capture so that he could ransom them for the Autobots' Mini-Cons. Immediately reneging on the deal once the Mini-Cons were in his clutches, Megatron ordered Leader-1 to destroy the children, but when the Mini-Con hesitated in response to [[Fred (Armada)|Fred]]'s pleas, Megatron was distracted long enough for the Autobots to turn the tables and send him packing. {{storylink|Confrontation (episode)|Confrontation}} This moment of hesitation did not break Megatron's trust in his little minion, though, as soon after, he had Leader-1 search a human sewer system when his own large tank mode made manoeuvring beneath the city streets too difficult. {{storylink|Underground}} Later still, while searching for a Mini-Con in the ruins of an underwater civilization, Leader-1 unlocked Megatron's "Full Blast Mode" for the first time, and then found the Mini-Con panel while his master was busy battling Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Ruin}}

The Mini-Con recovered from the ruins by Leader-1 initially refused to awaken from its panel, but following another failed hunt on a volcanic island, Megatron redoubled his efforts, and successfully roused [[Sonar (Armada)|Sonar]] from his slumber. {{storylink|Prehistory}} Realizing that Sonar was one of the three Mini-Cons who together formed the legendary [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] sword, Megatron led his Decepticons in an invasion of the Autobot base to steal the other two, personally facing down Hot Shot and Optimus Prime at the same time. Sonar awakened his team-mates and they formed the Star Saber in Megatron's hands, but no sooner was the sword complete than Optimus Prime blasted it from Megatron's grip. This led the other Decepticons to question Starscream's competency with the sword, and they forced him to hand it over to Megatron. {{storylink|Conspiracy}} With the Star Saber now his to command, Megatron brought the sword to bear in his next battle with Optimus Prime, during which the Autobot leader hurled them both into a crevasse. Megatron plummeted to the bottom while Optimus was grabbed out of the air by Scavenger, revealed to have been an Autobot spy all along. Sword still in hand, Megatron led the Decepticon effort to obtain the final Mini-Con that formed the Skyboom Shield, succeeding despite the presence of the newest Autobot [[Blurr (Armada)|Blurr]]. {{storylink|Reinforcement}} With both Star Saber and Skyboom now his, Megatron challenged Optimus Prime to a decisive battle in the desert. The combat was fierce, but finally, Prime was able to wrest the shield from Megatron's grasp, and when the two weapons collided, and incredible burst of energy was released that shot off into space. {{storylink|Decisive Battle}} Despite this failure, Megatron was quick to orchestrate another confrontation with Prime, this time separating him from the other Autobots by randomly warping each of the heroes to different sites of past battles. Facing off against Prime in the Sahara again, Megatron employed a legion of Mini-Cons to attack the Autobot leader, correctly gambling that he would not fight back against the small 'bots. What he did not expect, however, was that Prime's reluctance to fight would prompt the Mini-Cons to turn on ''him'', keeping him occupied until the other Autobots arrived, forcing him to withdraw. {{storylink|Vow}}

Convinced that Megatron's flawed leadership was the reason behind the recent string of Decepticon failures, Sideways decided to play Megatron and Starscream off against one another in order to change the game. When the Decepticons returned after another failed battle, Megatron began brutalizing Starscream for his failings (despite the fact that Starscream had been following his orders), and might have even killed him if Demolishor had not intervened. Taking this as his cue, Sideways began to plant notions of leadership in Starscream's head, while challenging Megatron's pride with the allegation that his position as commander was only secure thanks to possession of the Star Saber. Sideways's machinations culminated in Starscream challenging Megatron to a duel for leadership, with a nonchalant Megatron so certain of his victory that he even wagered the Star Saber on the fight's outcome. Unfortunately for Starscream, Megatron's prognostication proved accurate, and he violently and resoundingly defeated his lieutenant with his bare hands, not even deigning to use the Saber. At the last moment, Megatron spared Starscream's life, preferring instead to let him live with the knowledge that he knew his weaknesses: he had a conscience. With most dastardly thing he managed to accomplish in his next few battles consisting of stepping on [[Laserbeak (Armada)|Laserbeak]] when he fell out of the sky, {{storylink|Chase (episode)|Chase}} Megatron was soon to summon the master Decepticon tactician [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] to Earth in an effort give his campaign a shot in the arm. The plan Thrust concocted gave Megatron a clear shot at Optimus Prime that would have succeeded in taking the Autobot leader's life, if not for the sudden arrival of [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] on Earth. {{storylink|Tactician}} Prime did not escape unscathed, however, and Megatron and Thrust took the opportunity to lure the remaining Autobots into a trap to make a play for the Skyboom Shield. Megatron was in the process of trying to wrestle the shield away from Smokescreen when Optimus appeared and revealed his power to combine with Jetfire, forcing the Decepticons to flee before his power. {{storylink|Linkup}} Soon after, Thrust implicated Sideways as the disruptive element that was prevent the Decepticons from working together as best they could, and Megatron tracked the mysterious 'bot down, catching him in the act of reporting his misdeeds to an unknown higher power. Megatron was not initially impressed with the newest addition to the Decepticon ranks, [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]], {{storylink|Awakening}} but soon changed his tune when the monolithic Decepticon revealed he had the power to combine with Megatron, giving the Decepticon leader a dramatic power boost. Battling with the combined Prime and Jetfire in the sky, the powered-up Megatron slashed the merged Autobots apart with the Star Saber, sending Prime into a potentially fatal plummet, only for him to be saved by the newly-awakened Mini-Cons that formed the third and final weapon, the [[Requiem Blaster (Armada)|Requiem Blaster]]. {{storylink|Desperate}} After receiving some repairs {{storylink|Runaway}} and adding Wheeljack to his forces, {{storylink|Past II}} Megatron led a second attack on the Autobot base to steal the Requiem Blaster, successfully obtaining the weapon and killing Smokescreen with it. Unfortunately, part of the plan to access the Autobot base involved using an unwitting Starscream as a distraction, {{storylink|Sacrifice}} and that betrayal of trust proved to be the last straw for the young Decepticon, leading him to make an attempt on Megatron's life. Using information provided by Starscream, the Autobots soon invaded the Decepticon base to free the captive Mini-Cons. Leaving his troops to fight, Megatron relocated himself to watch over the Mini-Cons personally, who by this stage he had put to work constructing a spacecraft for the Decepticons. When [[Perceptor (Armada)|Perceptor]] arrived to bravely face him down, the Mini-Cons began to sing an eerie harmony and turned on Megatron, with even Leader-1 attempting to escape his perch on Megatron's arm. Fortunately, Hot Shot intervened before Megatron could obliterate the Mini-Cons, leading him a merry chase across the moon while the other Autobots got the little 'bots to safety and double-teaming with Starscream to take the Decepticon commander down. {{storylink|Rescue}} Infuriated by this loss, Megatron found new hope in Thrust's latest discovery: as had been previously evinced by the meeting of the Star Saber and Skyboom, the uniting of the Requiem Blaster with the other two weapons could potentially produce incredibly destructive energy. To test this hypothetical, Megatron took the Requiem Blaster to confront Jetfire and Starscream, wielding the Skyboom and Saber at the time, when they were attempting to recover a Mini-Con on [[Mars (planet)|Mars]]. Through the machinations of Thrust, Starscream's alliance with the Autobots was shattered, and he stole the Skyboom and returned to the Decepticon fold. {{storylink|Crack (episode)|Crack}} The three Mini-Cons weapons were combined to create the planet-destroying [[Hydra Cannon]], which was mounted on the bow on the Decepticons' new spaceship. {{storylink|Threaten}} As a test of loyalty, Megatron charged Starscream with pressing the fateful button that would vaporize Earth and the Autobots, but before the weapon was in alignment, Optimus Prime and Jetfire attacked the ship. Megatron battled with Prime on the hull of the craft, forcing him to watch as the cannon was fired at Earth, but at the last second, Prime broke free of Megatron's hold and threw himself in front of the beam, blocking it with the power of his [[Matrix of Leadership]]. This action also claimed Prime's life, and Megatron watched, stunned, as his eternal enemy disintegrated into space dust. {{storylink|Crisis}} Prime's death plunged Megatron into a deep depression, having lost his greatest opponent without the chance to finish him with his own hands. An even greater change was soon to come over Megatron—following a group of Autobots through a black hole to a dead planet, eager to continue the fight, Megatron ''thought'' he was engaging Optimus Prime once again, only to quickly discover he was facing a twisted doppleganger named [[Nemesis Prime (Armada)|Nemesis Prime]]. Helpless before his power, Megatron, Starscream, Demolishor, Hot Shot and Red Alert would have been destroyed if not for their partner Mini-Cons, who combined their strength to give the larger Transformers a power boost, [[spontaneous recoloration|fusing their armor into new colors]] in the process. Rechristening himself "Galvatron", Megatron joined the Requiem Blaster with Optimus Prime's new [[Overload (Armada)|Overload]] weapons systems to destroy Nemesis Prime, then crippled the Autobots' ship with the blaster so the Decepticons could escape and beat them back to Cybertron. {{storylink|Puppet}}

With the power of the Mini-Con weapons, Galvatron and his men had no trouble taking control of the planet, but when Optimus's Autobots caught up to them, Galvatron was surprised to find that combat was not his enemy's concern: instead, Optimus spoke of the approach of [[Unicron]], a great enemy he had been warned of by the Mini-Cons, and proposed an alliance between Autobot and Decepticon against him. Galvatron refused, dismissing Unicron's very existence as an Autobot trick, {{storylink|Uprising}} but was soon forced to rethink his position when Thrust revealed himself to be a servant of Unicron's and stole the Requiem Blaster and Skyboom Shield to begin his master's resurrection. {{storylink|Dash (episode)|Dash}} Galvatron dedicated the whole of the Decepticons' manpower into locating Thrust, {{storylink|Drift (episode)|Drift}} while grimly ruminating on the unwelcome implications of an alliance: that the war he had spent his whole life fighting would have meant nothing. Having spent time in Optimus's camp and realising that an alliance under his leadership was the only way forward, Starscream pleaded with Galvatron to accept Prime's offer, but his refusal was steadfast, forcing Starscream to intervene in a later battle between Prime and Galvatron in an attempt to convince his commander by force. In the duel that resulted, Galvatron fatally ran Starscream through with the Star Saber, but with this last breath, Starscream struck against Unicron, and was utterly obliterated as a result. Reached by the sacrifice of his subordinate and the physical proof of Unicron's threat, Galvatron accepted the truth of Starscream's words and handed the Star Saber over to Prime as a symbol of their alliance. Alas, at the last moment, Sideways appeared to snatch it away, using it to complete Unicron's reawakening. {{storylink|Cramp}}

In a formal ceremony before all their troops, Prime and Galvatron shook hands, uniting the Autobots and Decepticons into an armada that struck at Unicron together. {{storylink|Alliance}} They were quick to discover that their forces were unable to damage the dark god's exterior, so Optimus Prime and Galvatron decided to venture inside his body; [[Image:MortalCombat galvatron sacrifice.jpg|right|thumb|250px]] before doing so, Galvatron confronted Thrust over his treachery on Unicron's shoulder, and left him to die when his clumsiness caused him to be caught in one of Unicron's joints and crushed. {{storylink|Union}} Once inside Unicron, Galvatron and Optimus worked their way to the chamber containing Unicron's "heart", where they were captured by the chaos-bringer and absorbed into his being, becoming one with his consciousness. In this dream-realm, Galvatron saw himself as the ruler of the universe, but the illusion was soon shattered when the Autobots' human allies were able to free the Mini-Con weapons from Unicron's hold, de-powering him. As they all tried to escape Unicron's dormant body, however, Galvatron challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. {{storylink|Origin}} The sheer ferocity of their final clash reawakened Unicron, and he began drawing in everything nearby. With Optimus Prime holding on to him to stop him being sucked in, Galvatron saw that the only way to end the circle was to destroy himself. Although he was believed dead by both the Autobots and Decepticons, Galvatron, like Unicron, had survived the final battle. His body was now a decayed husk, having been absorbed into the equally damaged body of Unicron, where it lay for ten years. {{storylink|Cybertron City (episode)|Cybertron City}} In the year [[2020]], when the alien being known as [[Alpha Quintesson|Alpha Q]] began his plan to re-energize Unicron, he desired to rally the Decepticons—still allied with the Autobots—to his cause with the promise that Megatron would be returned to them. As Alpha Q's [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] continued to steal [[Energon]] from the Autobots' mining operations on Earth, Galvatron saw his opportunity, siphoning off some of the fuel to fashion a new body for himself. Realising what he was up to, Alpha Q instructed his lieutenant [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] to destroy Galvatron, but Scorponok's choice of execution method left much to be desired: he stabbed Megatron's corpse through the spark with the Energon Sword, which only served to return the Decepticon leader's full power. Galvatron absorbed the sword into himself, burst free in his new form and became Megatron again, immediately beating Scorponok to within an inch of his life and forcing him into his service. He proceeded to take over Unicron's body, sending Alpha Q fleeing in Unicron's head, and took up his campaign to gather Energon from Earth to reactivate Unicron, whom he would use as the ultimate weapon. {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}}

For his first strike, Megatron attacked [[Plains City]], dismembering [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] and allowing the other Autobots to leave in peace so that he could harvest the city's Energon. Empowered by an [[Energon star]] made from the gathered mineral, Megatron then led an assault on [[Ocean City]], where he taunted the conflicted [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] into returning to the Decepticon side. Engaging in his first battle in his new form with [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], Megatron's sword gave him the upper hand, but he was forced to withdraw when the [[Omnicon]]s armed the Autobots with numerous copies of the sword that they had created. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}}

When Alpha Q sent Starscream to assassinate Megatron, the Decepticon leader revealed he had become fully joined with Unicron's unearthly powers, using them to disappear, reappear, multiply himself, and psychically assault Starscream, wiping Alpha Q's directives from his mind and reprogramming him as a loyal Decepticon. {{storylink|The Legend of Rodimus}} Following an attack on [[Jungle City]] that failed when the Autobots blew up the city rather than let Megatron's forces have its Energon, {{storylink|Crisis in Jungle City}} the Decepticon leader learned of the Energon-finding powers of the Autobots' human ally, [[Kicker Jones]], and attempted to capture him in another battle on the Moon, but was once again driven off by the activation of an Energon tower. {{storylink|Kicker Beware!}} Seeking to take out the Autobots before the towers were complete, Megatron spawned a barrage of "comets" from Unicron and hurled them to Earth, but the final tower was completed and the protective [[Energon grid]] they generated shielded Earth from the comets' impact. Soon after, Megatron tried to stop the Autobots from leaving the [[Solar System]] aboard the ''[[Miranda II]]'', and was saved from being destroyed by the ship's Energon grid by Demolishor, who sacrificed himself in his leader's place. {{storylink|Go for Unicron!}} Recovering Demolishor's [[spark]], Megatron used Unicron's powers to create a new body for him, wiping his mind in the process. When Unicron's hunger for Energon became too great, Megatron was unable to control him, and he began lashing out at everyone inside his body. An infusion of Energon courtesy of the Omnicons brought Unicron back under control, {{storylink|Survival Instincts}} and Megatron then turned his attention back to Cybertron, intending to feed the planet to Unicron once his troops destroyed the Energon grid. {{storylink|Each One Fights...}} With the addition of Energon drawn straight from [[Primus]], Megatron succeeded in fully re-energizing Unicron and transforming him to robot mode, but before he could turn him upon Cybertron, Alpha Q returned, ramming Unicron's disembodied head into the giant's side. {{storylink|Unicron Unleashed}} Megatron and Alpha Q battled for mental control of Unicron while the Autobots made their way through his body, until events reached a tipping point when all the positively-charged Energon of Earth was beamed across space and into Unicron's head. {{storylink|Open Fire!}} In retaliation, Megatron vented all the negatively-charged Energon within Unicron, seeking to cause a catastrophic reaction that would destroy everyone and everything, but which instead tore open a [[rift (Energon)|rift]] in reality. In the [[Alpha Q's universe|new region of space]] that lay on the other side of the rift, Megatron and the Decepticons discovered that the worlds consumed by Unicron had been restored to life, and were nurtured by Alpha Q from within an [[Energon Orb|Energon sun]]. Brainwashing Scorponok into his slave and setting up base within Unicron's inert form, Megatron began attacking these new worlds, again stealing Energon in order to restore Unicron a second time. {{storylink|Protection}} When Shockblast was captured by the Autobots, Megatron rescued him in exchange for a promise of renewed loyalty by infusing his jailer, [[Inferno (Energon)|Inferno]], with Decepticon programming. {{storylink|Imprisoned Inferno}} An attack on [[Jungle Planet (Energon)|Jungle Planet]] followed, which saw Megatron fighting a holding action in the atmosphere to keep Optimus Prime from aiding his troops on the planet's surface until Prime taught him a lesson about the power of teamwork and blasted him over the horizon. {{storylink|Jungle Planet (episode)|Jungle Planet}} Subsequent attacks for Energon by Megatron's troops were stymied by the introduction of Energon towers to the new planets, {{storylink|Bulkhead (episode)|Bulkhead}} the installation of which was helped when Megatron's attention was drawn away from them by Inferno, who claimed the programming Megatron had infused him with had taken over and he wished to join his army. ''Discovering that the Energon sun was, in fact, Unicron's own disembodied head, Megatron shifted his plans around, focusing his attacks on the foundling planets outside the reach of the system's Energon grid, starting with [[Planet Q]]. {{storylink|Return! Our Scorponok}}'' A series of further successful raids {{storylink|Crash Course}} netted Megatron enough energy to bring Unicron's body back online, {{storylink|Omega Supreme (episode)|Omega Supreme}} and he directed the titan to seize the Energon sun, extinguishing its light and placing it back as his head atop his shoulders. {{storylink|A Heroic Battle}} With his form now complete, however, Unicron ceased to obey Megatron's commands, but, after a brief attempt by Shockblast at usurping Unicron's power, the planet-eater began moving again and crushed the treacherous Decepticon to death. It quickly became apparent that this was not because Megatron had regained control: it was because ''Unicron'' had taken control of ''Megatron''! {{storylink|The Power of Unicron}} Megatron struggled in vain against Unicron's mental grip as he began destroying Alpha Q's planets, {{storylink|Optimus Supreme}} but Optimus Prime and [[Omega Supreme (Energon)|Omega Supreme]] were eventually able to destroy the chaos-bringer thanks to a power boost bestowed upon them by Primus. A short time later, Megatron returned to attack a Cybertron at peace, and was subliminally guided by Unicron to a reservoir of [[Super Energon]] beneath the planet's surface. {{storylink|Ambition}} After recruiting two of the reservoir's guardians, [[Bruticus Maximus (Energon)|Bruticus Maximus]] and [[Constructicon Maximus]], to his side, Megatron immersed himself in the powerful liquid and underwent another power boost, accompanied by a spontaneous recoloration. He was once again inspired to take the name of Galvatron. Galvatron proceeded to test his new might in a battle with the Autobots, which ended when green [[Energon gas]]—harmless to the Decepticons, but poisonous to the Autobots—flooded the surface of Cybertron from a damaged Energon tower, forcing the heroic robots to depart the planet. {{storylink|Wishes}}

Now in control of Cybertron, Galvatron met with his newest recruit, Shockblast's brother [[Six Shot]], who proposed using the Energon towers to propel the planet through space. Urged to do so by Unicron, Galvatron ordered Cybertron moved into Alpha Q's universe, but was quick to lose patience with the newbie when Six Shot opened fire on the ''Miranda II'' without orders, seeking to destroy Optimus Prime (mistakenly believing that it was he who killed his brother). {{storylink|Galvatron!}} Soon after, when the Autobots were able to return to Cybertron's surface, Galvatron engaged them in battle, but Six Shot's continued insubordination served to infuriate him further when he unleashed more Energon gas that sent the Autobots fleeing into the planet's depths. {{storylink|Break Through}} As his troops gave chase, Galvatron elected to remain in the control room to keep a close eye on Six Shot as he used the Energon grid to clear space debris out of Cybertron's path, but even this didn't stop the young punk from defying orders and turning the grid on Optimus Prime when he got a chance. This prompted Galvatron to smack him around for abandoning his appointed task, inadvertently saving Prime's life. {{storylink|The Omega Train}} In response, Six Shot promised not to do anything at all any more—a promise he fulfilled quite literally when Galvatron engaged Optimus Prime in battle sooner after and received only silence in response to his command to fire the Energon grid at Prime. {{storylink|Decepticon Army}} Galvatron was apoplectic when Six Shot demanded an apology before he returned to work, which Starscream offered in his lord's place. Galvatron returned to battling the Autobots, but was defeated when Optimus Prime and Omega Supreme combined. {{storylink|Ironhide Team}}

Cybertron soon emerged into Alpha Q's realm, where Galvatron watched, amazed, as Optimus Prime called upon the power of Primus to grow to planet-size and halt Cybertron's movement with his bare hands. Galvatron commanded Six Shot to increase the Energon towers' output, but this resulted in them exploding, {{storylink|Formidable}} which Galvatron blamed and bludgeoned Six Shot for. Six Shot decided to make a play for the Super Energon, and Galvatron pursued him back to the reservoir, where the Decepticon leader immersed himself in the pool for a second time. This exposure caused Galvatron to grow to a colossal height, and he promptly killed Six Shot by grinding him beneath his heel. {{storylink|Galvatron Terror}} Still growing even larger, Galvatron found his mind and body again taken over by Unicron, who had him take off into space to [[Image:TheSun galvatron possessed.jpg|left|thumb|250px|Lather, rinse, and repeat for 52 episodes.]] recombine with his still-living spark, dragging Cybertron behind him on a Super Energon tether. Once the Autobots cut the tether, {{storylink|Destructive Power}} Optimus Prime channelled the power of Unicron as well, growing to Galvatron's height and forcing him into a battle on Jungle Planet, gambling that Galvatron's hatred of him would allow his consciousness to supercede Unicron's control. Prime wagered correctly, and the two combatants grew to even ''more'' gigantic heights for a devastating brawl. So enraged was he by Unicron's manipulations, Galvatron forewent finishing off the wounded Optimus Prime and instead took off to destroy Unicron's spark. Instead, however, he wound up being possessed by it once more, yet again becoming a planet-sized destroyer. While struggling to fight the control of Unicron, he was confronted by Optimus Prime once again, who held him fast as Primus went about transforming the remaining Super Energon into a new sun for Alpha Q's planets. At some point prior to his destruction, Galvatron—or a virtual duplicate of him, it was hard to tell—participated in an Autobot training simulation that took the form of a fighting tournament. Ten years after Galvatron's sacrifice, in the year [[2030]], Primus's plan to imprison Unicron's spark at the heart of the sun ultimately failed when the star collapsed, creating a massive [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] which threatened the existence of not just Cybertron, but the entirety of creation. The sun's collapse allowed the still-living Galvatron to escape, and he immediately set about fashioning Unicron's remains into an [[Armor of Unicron|armor]] that he merged with his body, massively increasing his powers with the dark god's own and reverted to being Megatron once again. Using his new abilities, Megatron created a [[fire dimension|pocket dimension]] to serve as a base of operations for himself and his troops, who—given that the Decepticon army was scattered to a state of virtual non-existence—consisted solely of Starscream, no longer the brainwashed servant of ten years gone, and the overeager [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]].

When the ancient Transformer [[Vector Prime]] arrived on Cybertron to tell the Autobots of the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s—ancient fragments of the power of Primus that would enable the Transformers' slumbering creator to close the black hole—Megatron saw his opportunity. While Starscream kept the Autobots busy, Megatron approached Vector Prime, attempting to charm the elderly bot into handing over the holographic map that held the locations of the Keys. At the last moment, Vector Prime realized that Megatron was not the kindly bot he pretended to be, but Megatron tore the map from his grip and smashed his way through the Autobots to escape. {{storylink|Fallen (episode)|Fallen}} Megatron and Starscream followed the map to the first Key, but found only a barren field of asteroids, realizing that the ancient map was outdated and had not been re-synchronized to the changed layout of the universe. {{storylink|Inferno (episode)|Inferno}}

Concerned that the Autobots were up to something on Earth, Megatron briefly tabled the search for the Cyber Planet Keys to investigate. Returning to Earth to check up on Starscream's progress, Megatron was irritated to find he had made none, and left to return to Velocitron, unaware that Starscream had switched the planet map with a copy. {{storylink|Speed}} Tired of the Speed Planet's racing customs, Megatron attempted to simply blast his way into the Planet Cup shrine and steal the trophy, but when even that failed, he decided to allow Crumplezone and Ransack to participate in a racing tournament that would allow them to win the cup legally if they were victorious. {{storylink|Collapse}} His attention freed to return to the mysteries of the map, Megatron divined the location of the next Key, the [[Animatron|Jungle Planet]]. Before departing for this new world, he joined Starscream and Thundercracker on Earth to chase up the latest lead to the Omega Lock. A communication from [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] alerted them to Optimus Prime's arrival on Jungle Planet, and Megatron headed back to the bestial planet in time to be resoundingly defeated by Optimus and Leobreaker's new combined "Savage Claw Mode". {{storylink|Savage}} After training back up to full strength, {{storylink|Sand}} Megatron returned to Velocitron just as Hot Shot won the Planet Cup. Immediately striking just as the forcefield around the trophy dropped so it could be awarded to the victorious Autobot, Megatron snatched the cup away, but was quickly bested by the combined forces of the Autobots and another Savage Claw attack. {{storylink|Champion}}

Back on Jungle Planet once more, Megatron stood on the sidelines, preparing to witness the battle for the Key between Scourge and Optimus Prime that was inevitable. {{storylink|Ice}} Prime refused to fight, however, and when Leobreaker tried to take Scourge alone and was wounded, Megatron attempted to finish him off. This display of dishonor enraged Scourge and he ordered Megatron to stay his hand, noticeably ruffling the Decepticon leader's feathers. Soon, when Prime came around to the idea of combat, Megatron grew concerned, and tried to dissuade Scourge from answering his challenge. {{storylink|Honor}} Scourge refused, so Megatron surreptitiously dispatched the Decepticons to stop the Autobots from making it to the battleground, making himself scarce to avoid being implicated when the plan failed. Optimus subsequently defeated Scourge and won the Cyber Planet Key, prompting Megatron to discard his previous notions of subtlety and order an all-out attack. {{storylink|Primal}} Optimus attempted to fool the Decepticons with a shell game, concealing the Key in one of several boxes and distributing them among the Autobots; thinking Prime would keep the Key himself, Megatron attacked him, but found him empty-handed. Deducing that Leobreaker had the Key, Megatron hunted him down, taunting him into the open with insults, but before they could battle, Optimus arrived to form Savage Claw Mode. With aid from Starscream, Megatron wrestled the Key from the duo, but before he could deliver a killing blow, the Key interacted with Prime's Matrix of Leadership, opening a space bridge through which all the other Autobots poured. Furious over two losses, Megatron nearly destroyed the planet map in his rage, until Starscream stopped him and managed to coax the location of the third Key from it. Departing at once with all his other troops, Megatron was led to empty space, where the phony map enveloped all the Decepticons, save for Crumplezone, in a metallic sphere. {{storylink|Trap}} Unable to escape even with his great power, {{storylink|Retreat}} Megatron was only able to liberate himself and his men with help from Scourge, who struck the sphere from without as Megatron attacked it within. In the time Megatron had been imprisoned, however, Starscream had obtained the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth, for himself, along with the Omega Lock and other keys. Megatron made a beeline for his treacherous lieutenant, but was intercepted by the Autobots Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot at [[Niagara Falls]], who intended to hold him off until the other Autobots could stop Starscream and recover the Lock and Keys. As the battle raged, the Autobots recovered the Omega Lock and Keys, and Leobreaker, Override and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] departed via space bridge to take them back to Cybertron. Megatron gave chase, recruiting the services of the smitten [[Thunderblast (Decepticon)|Thunderblast]] in the process. {{storylink|United}} No sooner had he followed them back to Cybertron than Megatron was confronted by the pursuing Optimus Prime, who had defeated Starscream on Earth. Seizing the Omega Lock, Megatron escaped into his fire dimension, but Optimus followed through his warp gate and the two leaders battled across the hellish landscape. The collision of their Cyber Key Powers tore the dimension open, allowing Prime to escape with the Lock, at which point he ordered Vector Prime to open one of his own dimension gates across the portal, collapsing Megatron's dimension in on itself. This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. {{storylink|Balance}} In this state, he rematerialized on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. Discovering that Starscream had repaired the ''Atlantis'', Megatron led his Decepticons in pursuit of the ship, clashing with the Autobots as they attempted to rescue [[Bud Hansen|Bud]], [[Reverb (Cybertron)|Reverb]] and [[Six-Speed]] from aboard it. When the ''Atlantis'' warped away, Megatron found himself approached by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]], {{storylink|Titans}} who proceeded to lead them through the fire dimension to the resting place of the fourth Key: [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet. {{storylink|Warp}} There, Megatron confronted towering planet leader [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]] in battle, but much to his surprise, was utterly defeated in seconds. {{storylink|Giant}} Consumed with rage over the defeat, the power of Unicron within his armor reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron. Both combatants struck at each other simultaneously, and although he suffered only minor wounds compared to Optimus, Galvatron elected to call the fight a draw and pulled out. {{storylink|Fury}}

After having his men buff the dents out of his armor, Galvatron ordered them to begin a quest down through Gigantion's many layers to claim the Cyber Planet Key deep within the planet. {{storylink|City}} The Decepticons split up into teams, with Galvatron partnering off with the newest Decepticon recruit, disgruntled Gigantion native [[Menasor (Cybertron)|Menasor]]. After making their down through many levels without obstruction, Galvatron and Menasor were confronted by the Cybertron Defense Team, eager for a rematch with the Decepticon leader. Alas, despite their upgrades, they were no match for Galvatron's increased power, {{storylink|Scourge (episode)|Scourge}} and the Decepticon leader carried on his way, arriving at the planet's lowest layer just as the Autobots were about to reach the Key. Battling Optimus Prime once more, Galvatron taunted him with the defeat of the Cybertron Defense Team, and crippled Optimus by putting the suggestion in his mind that he was deliberately putting his soldiers in danger. Galvatron's words were soon proven wrong when all the Autobots joined together to hold him off, and Optimus, his strength renewed by his troops' show of faith, used Metroplex's [[Sparkdrinker|axe]] to send Galvatron flying into the sky and out of the fight. {{storylink|Optimus (episode)|Optimus}}

After the Autobots added the Gigantion Key to the Omega Lock, Galvatron swooped in to steal the device, only to be attacked by Starscream. The two rivals battled for possession of the artifact, and Galvatron ultimately emerged triumphant, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream (along with Sideways and Soundwave) into another dimension. {{storylink|Showdown}} With the Lock and Keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the black hole, using their power not to close the singularity, but to ''accelerate'' its spread, intending to destroy the entire universe and remake it in his image—beginning with the Jungle Planet, which he pulled into the black hole from across space. When the Autobots caught up to him, able to return from Gigantion thanks to the sacrifice of Vector Prime, they found they were no match for his enhanced strength. After using the power of the Lock to transform his remaining minions into giants to keep the Autobots at bay, Galvatron entered the black hole itself, where he was confronted by the five planet leaders. Despite absorbing the power of the Lock and becoming a giant himself, Galvatron was eventually defeated by his enemies, forcing him to throw the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys into the very core of the black hole in hopes of destroying the universe anyway. Unfortunately for him, Optimus grabbed the Lock (with some otherworldly aid from Vector Prime), and Primus' Spark was finally restored, allowing him to use the Ark to finally seal the black hole for good. Adding insult to injury, Galvatron's depowered troops found out that he had every intention of letting them die with the rest of the universe, and so abandoned the defeated Decepticon leader in the void. {{storylink|End}}

With ultimate power torn from his grasp, Galvatron was contemplating giving up when Starscream's spirit reached out across the dimensions to taunt him. After the vision of his mocking ex-lieutenant faded, Galvatron's confidence was restored, and he immediately flew to Jungle Planet, damaging one of the planetary engines the Autobots were using to return it back to its proper place in space. While the Autobots scrambled to repair the engine, Galvatron challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel, battling him first on Cybertron's surface, and then on its moon. Generating a sword of dark energy, Megatron was about to deliver a killing blow to Prime when Vector Prime's planet map appeared to block the blade. From the map, Optimus drew Vector Prime's [[Rhisling|mighty sword]], and thus armed, he and Galvatron initiated one final charge at each other. Prime impaled Galvatron with the sword, and he collapsed, weakly reaching for Prime with the last of his strength even as his body disintegrated into cosmic particles, his life at an end at last. {{storylink|Unfinished}}

The Build Team accompanied [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]]'s team to Earth, and were responsible for constructing the [[Global Space Bridge]]. While they worked hard to build and maintain the Autobots' infrastructure, they ''really'' wanted to prove themselves as warriors, especially [[Wedge]]. They eventually got the opportunity to do just that when the [[Predacon (RID)|Predacon]]s attempted to steal a massive load of diamonds in [[Antarctica]]. With the tunnel connecting [[Metro City]] to Antarctica incomplete, the team demanded that they be the ones to take on the Predacons, threatening not to complete the tunnel unless they got permission. Optimus Prime and [[T-AI]] reluctantly agreed.

The team quickly built the tunnel and attempted to engage the enemy, but it turned out to be a trap set by [[Sky-Byte (RID)|Sky-Byte]] as part of a poorly thought out scheme to gain favor with [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]]. Nonetheless, the Build Team rushed in recklessly, and got totally creamed. Wedge was taken prisoner, and so Heavy Load offereda complete map of the Global Space Bridge in exchange for the commander's life. Sky-Byte eagerly accepted, at which point the [[Decepticon#Robots_in_Disguise|Decepticons]] showed up and the villains started fighting among themselves. Optimus Prime and the [[Autobot Brothers]] arrived to bail them out, but the villains ended up escaping. Fortunately, it turned out the disk Heavy Load had traded for Wedge's life was a fake, containing useless data. Even though Build Team had screwed up royally, Optimus Prime considered that they had strong potential and could be mighty warriors with the right training. {{storylink|Wedge's Short Fuse}}

Later, shortly after completing the Arctic tunnel link, the team was trailed by [[Ro-Tor (RID)|Ro-Tor]] to the Global Space Bridge server bunker. The Decepticons were thus able to screw around with the network, throwing the Autobots into complete disarray. After being read the riot act by [[Rapid Run (RID)|Rapid Run]], Build Team searched in vain for the source of the malfunctions. The tampering was eventually detected by T-AI, allowing the team to restore functionality and then join the rest of the Autobots in attacking Scourge's operation in the Arctic. In an effort to make up for their screw-up, Build Team charged ahead of their comrades and combined into [[Landfill (RID)|Landfill]] for the first time, defeating both Scourge and Megatron. {{storylink|Landfill (episode)|Landfill}}

They would next be seen at the [[CGA Tower]], when a Predacon general destruction operation accidentally turned into a hostage situation. Wedge managed to negotiate, offering Sky-Byte whatever he wanted in exchange for the humans' safety. They were able to build a stable foundation to save the hostages, and later combined once again into Landfill to drive off Scourge. {{storylink|Sky-Byte Saves the Day}} After that, they took back a shipment of energy the Decepticons had stolen, and Scourge ordered that they be destroyed to deprive the Autobots of their Space Bridge advantage. When the Decepticons attacked various construction sites to draw out the Build Team, Optimus Prime initially kept them in the dark so that they could focus on expanding and maintaining the Global Space Bridge. When Wedge found out what was going on, he decided to deliberately sabotage the Bridge so that they would take on the Decepticons themselves. Some time later, the team was sent to excavate some ruins that [[Kenneth Onishi|Doctor Onishi]] was investigating. Despite trouble with hallucinations, they dug up the chamber {{storylink|Fortress Maximus (episode)|Fortress Maximus}}, revealing the burial site of [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]]. They then built him a rather dodgy hiding place to prevent the Predacons getting their hands on him. {{storylink|Koji Gets His Wish}}

Around the same time, Dr. Onishi was rescued, and the Autobots searched for the [[O-Part]]s in earnest. When Wedge and Side Burn's ambitions got the better of them, Build Team challenged the Autobot Brothers to see who could find the most O-Parts. Build Team won. {{storylink|A Friendly Contest}}

Build Team were later responsible for diggin up the ruins where [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros]] was buried; when he was stolen by the Decepticons, they were among the Autobots who helped get him back {{storylink|Maximus Emerges}}. When the Decepticons managed to activate Fortress Maximus in the desert, the Build Team cooperated with [[Team Bullet Train]] to bring in 1,000 children to regain control {{storylink|The Human Element}}. They also took part in the final battle against Galvatron. Though they formed Landfill to attack the [[Megastar]], the combiner was quickly blown apart by the battle station's firepower. Wedge didn't fare much better on his lonesome. {{storylink|Surprise Attack!}} They formed Landfill again to fight Ruination, however when Galvatron used [[cyber-bat]]s to take the world's children hostage, the Autobots were forced to retreat into the space bridge, which Galvatron flooded with lava. The Autobots dug their way out, only to face Galvatron again. {{storylink|Galvatron's Revenge}} The Build Team battled on in the form of Landfill, but Galvatron held them in an energy field until his defeat at the hands of Omega Prime.

Among the many worlds that fell to the unending hunger of the world-eater, [[Unicron]], was one little sphere known as [[Planet Q]]. This world would not go quietly, however, as its armies fought back valiantly, but it soon it became apparent that they would not be able to stop Unicron. The planet's grand chamberlain resigned himself to his world's fate, choosing a suicide ploy. The chamberlain instructed the planet's ruler to detonate Planet Q's core and defiantly deny Unicron his meal, but when the ruler could not, the chamberlain committed the act himself, destroying the planet as Unicron consumed it. The explosion failed to destroy Unicron, but it did heavily damage him, forcing him into a state of dormancy. And within Unicron's slumbering husk, the [[spark]] of Planet Q's ruler continued to exist.

Driven mad by the solitary existence over the ensuing years, the mind of Planet Q's ruler fractured, splintering into separate personalities. From Unicron's body, it sculpted for itself a new, armored form out of the "bones" of his devoured subjects, with four rotating face masks, through which each one of his personalities found voice, with his fifth personality—his original, true face—hidden away inside him, speaking only when the armour was closed, concealing his face from view. But within the shattered mind of the insane being that now called itself "Alpha Q," a kernel of genius existed—Alpha Q had discovered that, through the power of [[energon]], all that Unicron had consumed could be reconstituted. And so, once Unicron finally perished in battle over Cybertron, Alpha Q found himself free to act. Over the next ten years, he learned how to master Unicron's systems for creation and, using what little energon he had, he recreated the armies of Planet Q as the [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]]. After the first few strikes by the Terrorcons, Alpha Q recreated the grand chamberlain in the form of [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]], as a general to lead the otherwise mindless Terrorcons in battle. {{storylink|Energon Stars}} Scorponok also served Alpha Q by recruiting old Decepticons to their cause. Alpha Q provided Scorponok with an image of [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]]'s deactivated form, from deep within Unicron. Using this image, Scorponok was able to convince [[Tidal Wave (Armada)|Tidal Wave]], then [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]], to turn against the Autobots and join the Terrorcons, claiming their goal was to gather enough energon to revive Megatron. {{storylink|Scorpinok}} Despite the steady supply of energon being brought in by the Terrorcons, Alpha Q lamented that it wasn't enough, and the Autobots were continuously getting in their way. Coming across Megatron's remains inside Unicron, Alpha Q detected traces of great power within him, and fed some energon through his circuits to retrieve a blade forged from Megatron's own spark. When Tidal Wave and Cyclonus began questioning Scorponok's motives, Alpha Q demanded they go out and capture more energon "for Megatron". {{storylink|The New Cybertron City}} Eventually, though, the jig was up as Megatron resurrected himself by diverting energon away from Unicron's systems. He quickly beat down Scorponok and confronted Alpha Q for control of Unicron. Megatron's connection to the Dark God appeared as strong as Alpha Q's, for he was capable of commanding the Terrorcon drones as well. Facing serious odds, Alpha Q chose the better part of valor and ran, disconnecting Unicron's head from the rest of his body and fleeing inside of it. {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}}

Deprived of most of his resources, Alpha Q concocted a new scheme to acquire energon. He resurrected the former Decepticon known as [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]], using energon to partially reconstruct the warrior's disintegrated body. The result was an amnesiac quasi-energy being, a "ghost" to do Alpha Q's bidding. {{storylink|Megatron Raid}} Alpha Q told Starscream he must assassinate Optimus Prime. With Prime out of the way, the energon would be freely available to revive Starscream AND Unicron to their rightful forms. {{storylink|Starscream the Mysterious Mercenary}} Alpha Q directed Scorponok and Starscream to push the Autobots and Megatron into a battle out in the asteroid belt, hoping one side would destroy the other, and leave room for him to control Unicron and the energon, but they failed. {{storylink|Battle of the Asteroid Belt}} Whent he Decepticons left Unicron's body behind to stage an attack on Earth, Alpha Q took the opportunity to send out his Terrorcons to steal some energon from them, using it to revitalize Unicron's head more. As Megatron recognized Unicron's energon supply was lower than it should be, Alpha Q gloated to himself over stealing the energon right out from under Megatron's nose. His winning streak didn't last long, though. Alpha Q sent Starscream into Unicron to assassinate Megatron, but the ghostly mercenary failed completely. Worse, Megatron forcibly reprogrammed Starscream to serve only him, costing Alpha Q the services of his minion. {{storylink|The Legend of Rodimus}} Alpha Q next attempted a new strategy. By outfitting his Terrorcons with "[[Command Ravage|stealth mode]]", his dispatched them to Jungle City in the hopes that they could infiltrate the base and steal energon without alerting the Autobots. The stealth upgrade had no effect on Kicker Jones' sensitivity, however, and the Autobots began striking back against the Terrorcons. When Megatron joined in as well, the Autobots initiated a "scorched earth" strategy, sacrificing Jungle City so that no energon was recovered by anyone. {{storylink|Crisis in Jungle City}}

After Megatron learned from [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] about Kicker's unique sensitivity, and Alpha Q learned about it in turn from Scorponok, he was curious about the boy. In his internal struggles to deal with the concept, Alpha Q manifested his fourth face for the first time. Using a Battle Ravage as a medium, Alpha Q spoke to Kicker on the moon through the Terrorcon's voice, wanting to learn more about how Kicker could sense energon. Lunar City's new energon tower released a shockwave that destroyed the Terrorcon before the conversation could end, but Alpha Q remained interested in Kicker. {{storylink|Kicker Beware!}} Megatron soon launched a trio of artificial comets towards Earth, expecting to wipe out humanity and the Autobots and retrieve the energon from the ashes. Alpha Q initially approved of the plan, although of course he hoped to mine the devastated planet before Megatron did. Alpha Q's new, calmer face had some reservations about extinguishing humanity, however, and seized an opportunity to listen in to Kicker through a Blackout drone as he described the unique spark of humanity. To the confusion of his other faces, the calmer Alpha Q allowed his ally [[Rodimus (Energon)|Rodimus]] to take a squadron of Shadowhawks to destroy one of the comets, which ultimately helped to save the entire Earth. Alpha Q began to orchestrate a new plan, involving Kicker. {{storylink|Energon Grid}}

In the meantime, however, Megatron finally recognized Scorponok for the spy he was, and that he was smuggling out energon for Alpha Q. In order to draw out his rival, Megatron strapped Scorponok to the outside of one of his artificial comets and launched it towards Earth. His intent was to lure Alpha Q out into the open to save Scorponok before he crashed into the deadly energon grid surrounding Earth's atmosphere. {{storylink|Rodimus Friend or Foe?}} Fortunately, Rodimus and his team were able to intervene on Scorponok's behalf, driving away the Decepticons and rescuing him without Alpha Q needing to reveal himself. {{storylink|Go for Unicron!}} As Scorponok recuperated in Unicron's head, Alpha Q prepped a new form of Terrorcons. Called [[Cruellock]]s, these Dinobot drones were dispatched to an icey planet where the Autobots and Decepticons were fighting over a newly discovered energon source. Although they took the opposition by surprise, the Cruellocks were ultimately overwhelmed and defeated by Alpha Q's rivals. {{storylink|The Return of Demolishor}}

After Rodimus had a meeting with Optimus Prime, he brought back a stowaway Autobot named Ironhide to Alpha Q's abode. Despite Rodimus's protestations, Alpha Q and Scorponok chose to give Ironhide a trial by fire to see if he was made of the right stuff. Ironhide survived, albeit heavily injured, and Scorponok judged him worthy to appear before Alpha Q. {{storylink|A Tale of Two Heros}} As Ironhide underwent repairs, Alpha Q sent Rodimus out to collect Kicker Jones, in order to finally meet the boy face-to-face. {{storylink|Battle Stations}} Kicker and his friend [[Misha Miramond]] arrived in Alpha Q's throne room, and the former ruler supplied Kicker with a recreation of his final moments on Planet Q before it fell to Unicron. Kicker struck out against Alpha Q during their meeting, demanding the "four-faced freak" fight for the good of the whole universe, instead of merely the restoration of his own single planet. Kicker eventually got through to Alpha Q, and he began to move Unicron's head for a rendezvous with the Autobot forces. {{storylink|Alpha Q: Identity}}

Alpha Q met with Optimus, Rodimus and Kicker aboard Unicron to discuss their tenuous alliance. {{storylink|Shockblast: Rampage}} As negotiations began, though, Unicron began to go wild. The continuous exposure to energon had reactivated Unicron's systems and, although he wasn't truly conscious, the entity began experiencing an instinctive hunger for more energon. These instincts overwhelmed Alpha Q's control of the planet, and he and Scorponok were restrained by a slew of tentacles in his throne room. Alpha Q rather meekly submitted to Unicron's assault until Kicker radioed him begging for assistance. The Autobots were attempting to reach Unicron's core with a fresh supply of energon, but needed help getting through Unicron's reactive barriers. Alpha Q managed to assert enough influence on Unicron to help them on their way. {{storylink|Survival Instincts}}

It was Misha Miramond who next made a connection with Alpha Q. The immature entity spotted Misha on her way to visit him, and decided to scare her with some Insecticons. Misha realized Alpha Q was just toying with her, though, and ignored his threats to insist on a conversation. Alpha Q and Misha connected with each other personally, and this renewed Alpha Q's determination to fight against Megatron on behalf of the Autobots. {{storylink|Each One Fights...}} As Unicron's body grew in power enough to threaten Cybertron, Alpha Q launched the head in a kamikaze assault on Megatron's portion of the Chaos-Bringer, breaking open Unicron's defenses for the Autobots to siege him from within. {{storylink|Unicron Unleashed}}

Now in direct contact with Unicron's body, Alpha Q used his influence to assist the Autobots on their passage through the Planet-Eater in search of Megatron. Kicker told Alpha Q to quit helping the Autobots, however, and concentrate on gathering the energy necessary to revive his planet. Once Alpha Q was struck by an enormous bolt of energon from Earth, he became strong enough to rework Unicron's systems and begin the process of recreating the planets consumed by the Chaos-Bringer. {{storylink|Open Fire!}} The head of Unicron was charged with massive amounts of energon, but this created a problem. The body of Unicron was charged with energon with an equal-but-opposite polarity, making the two potentially volatile if they came together. Megatron began pumping out his negatively-charged energon just for this purpose, and Alpha Q attempted to flee inside Unicron's head. He sensed Scorponok's efforts against Megatron, though, and couldn't abandon his protector. Alpha Q hesitated long enough for the two energon fields to react, creating a catastrophic wave that ripped a hole through space itself. Still inside Unicron's energon-charged head, Alpha Q passed through the spatial rift with the sparks of his planets, and into the universe beyond. {{storylink|Ripped Up Space}}

Beyond the rift, Alpha Q fulfilled his promise and recreated his planet, along with all the other planets consumed by Unicron. By remaking Unicron's head into a kind of star, he formed his own solar system with the planets manifesting in his orbit, and receiving life-enhancing rays of energon beaming out into the cosmos. Alpha Q was now effectively imprisoned inside Unicron's head, but he was still capable of remotely viewing events in his solar system and on the planets. He also remained in contact with Kicker, apparently due to the boy's unique sensitivity. {{storylink|Protection}} Alpha Q guided the ''Miranda II'' to [[Jungle Planet (Energon)|Jungle Planet]], a burgeoning paradise-like world growing strong under the energon sun. He proudly told Kicker this was what they had been working together all along. {{storylink|Imprisoned Inferno}} Alpha Q watched over the Autobots as they defended Jungle Planet from an attack by the Decepticons. {{storylink|Jungle Planet (episode)|Jungle Planet}} He communicated with Kicker after Iron Planet was consumed by the Terrorcons, and watched nervously as the Autobots brought the first of a series of energon towers from Cybertron to protect Jungle Planet. {{storylink|Bulkhead (episode)|Bulkhead}}

As one of many battles took place near the gravitational field of his sun, Alpha Q caught a glimpse of Scorponok and tried to make contact with him. It seemed as if Scorponok briefly recognized Alpha Q's presence, but he quickly ignored it and returned to the Decepticons. {{storylink|Farewell Inferno}}

''Alpha Q was initially pleased when the Autobots finished erecting their energon grid, an impenetrable barrier shielding the energon enriched planets in Alpha Q's solar system. He soon realized, however, that cutting the Decepticons off meant that Scorponok could not return to him either. Alpha Q still held out hope that Scorponok could be redeemed and come back to him. he tried to beg Kicker into shutting down the grid to let Scorponok through, but he wouldn't listen. In response, Alpha Q began focusing extra energon on a small, burgeoning planet outside the energon grid, causing it to develop at an accelerated pace into a recreation of the original Planet Q, his homeworld with Scorponok from long ago. Alpha Q hoped that after seeing Planet Q and their reconstructed palace, Scorponok would remember who he was.''

''This was not to be, though. Scorponok and his Terrorcons attacked the Q Palace without hesitation to reach the energon concentrated beneath it, and the Autobots had to step in to protect the planet and its energon. Alpha Q wailed helplessly as Ironhide confronted Scorponok at the palace, and made his own failed attempts to reach the original Scorponok's personality underneath Megatron's control. He failed, and Scorponok was posed to strike a killing blow against the Autobot when Alpha Q intervened. Alpha Q attacked Scorponok with a concentrated dose of positively charged energon beamed down from the sun, occupying him long enough for Ironhide to recover. After Megatron sounded a retreat, Alpha Q asked Kicker to tell Ironhide he was a true warrior, and that the old Scorponok respected him for it. {{storylink|Return! Our Scorponok}}''

Alpha Q started laughing hysterically while watching the Autobots compete in their Grand Prix on [[Circuit Planet]]. {{storylink|Crash Course}}

As Megatron got Unicron up and running again, Alpha Q put his faith in their Autobots and the energon grid to defend his planets. {{storylink|Omega Supreme (episode)|Omega Supreme}} They were all unsuccessful, however, and Unicron came to the [[Energon Orb]] to reclaim his head. Alpha Q reached out to Kicker and told him to take the ''Miranda II'' to a new planet he had grown. Thinking this was a plan to defeat Megatron, Kicker agreed, but when he arrived on [[Plains Planet|Grass Planet]] he found only wide empty pastures of green grass. Alpha Q explained to Kicker that he created this planet especially for him, as it matched the images in Kicker's mind of the peaceful place he and Misha played together when they were children. With this planet complete, Alpha Q expelled the last of his energon and died within the Energon Orb, as Unicron collected his head and became complete once more. {{storylink|A Heroic Battle}}

Following his demise, Alpha Q's body was recovered from inside Unicron's head by Kicker and Ironhide. {{storylink|The Power of Unicron}} He was laid to rest in a simple ceremony on Grass Planet, beneath a headstone. {{storylink|Optimus Supreme}}

====Lost in translation====
A point worth noting is that the strong affection Alpha Q feels for Scorponok is not displayed as clearly in ''Energon'' as it is in ''Super Link''. During the episode "[[Return! Our Scorponok|Scorponok's Scars]]" (which was never translated or shown in America), he repeatedly referred to Scorponok as "my Scorponok" and showed him images of their home planet in an effort to reverse Megatron's brainwashing. As well, during the [[Distribution|Special Dream Match]], Alpha Q responded to Scorponok's statement of "I don't know you" with "say I love you", showing what seems to be some sort of surrogate parent/child emotional connection.

Pre-production materials<ref>[http://web.archive.org/web/20041207164548/www.tfpulp.com/archive/energonprod/energonprod.html TFPulp's translation of Super-Link production notes, courtesy of the Wayback Machine.]</ref> for ''Super Link'' offer further details on Alpha Q's history that did not make it into the final version of the series. His original, true form was originally conceived as being the human-form princess of Planet Q, a young girl whose face would be the fifth and final face of Alpha Q, that would eventually be revealed when Kicker would "shatter her shell." The materials note, however, that if Hasbro vetoed the idea, the princess would be replaced with either a young prince, or simply a ball of light. Whether this veto occurred is unknown, but what is certain is that none of this was officially established in the finished show, and Alpha Q's fifth face remains hidden inside his closed armor (assuming it exists at all).

There are, however, some vague reference to this material in the series. In ''Super Link'', when Alpha Q speaks with his true voice, it is the voice of a young child. In contrast, in these scenes in ''Energon'', a multi-layered voice is used, professing to be the voice of all lives lost in Planet Q's destruction. The vision of Planet Q's destruction viewed by Kicker, which shows Alpha Q and Scorponok existing as the same robotic entities they are in the present day, would appear to contradict this notion, but the scene is specifically described with a modifier by Kicker as being how "Alpha Q remembers that day," leaving wiggle-room, since Alpha Q is absolutely out of his tree.

Alpha Quintesson began the war over Energon by providing the Terrorcon group—led by Scorponok—with enhanced powers and "Hyper Modes", sending them to the undefended Earth to drain it of the newly-discovered pure Energon ore. At the same time, he sent [[Unicron's Four Horsemen]] to Cybertron to wreak havoc, preventing the Autobots from getting to Earth. {{storylink|This Evil Reborn}}

Unfortunately for Alpha Quintesson, the Horsemen were repelled by the [[Omnicon]]s and the newly-enhanced Autobots, which gave them the time needed to reach Earth and sink the Terrorcons' plans. For a time, Alpha Quintesson's involvement in the war was minimal, but when he returned, it was in a big way; unleashing thousands of Terrorcon drones to decimate [[Los Angeles]], [[Tokyo]], [[Toronto]] and [[Moscow]]. But the Decepticons weren't the only ones Alpha Quintesson was working with toward his goal of restoring the shell of Unicron. :One of the last toys in the [[Transformers: Energon (toyline)|''Energon'' line]], Alpha Quintesson is fairly unique in that he is one of the only toys in the history of the main ''Transformers'' line that does not transform in any manner or even come with any kind of transforming accessory (like the [[Action Master]]s).

:Alpha Quintesson requires quite a bit of assembly out of the box, coming in six separate pieces: his main body, a solid "bed of tentacles" that serves as a wheeled base that the body plugs into, a firing missile launcher which plugs into his back (via a standard 5mm peg that also allows other characters to wield it) and points up over his head, and three rubber, wire-poseable tentacles which attach to the base. The tentacles end in a large yellow clamp, a red chainsaw, and a purple energy arc, and spin around via a gear-wheel system when the base is rolled back and forth. The figure features nine circular ports (three on each arm and three on the base), to which either [[energon chip]]s or any weapons featuring 5mm pegs can be attached.

:The main body is notably very [[Show-accuracy|accurate]] to the CGI model from the animated series, save for its coloration and the addition of the missile launcher. As a toy that was entirely dull green from top to bottom would not have been a very interesting sight, the figure features several shades of green with yellow highlights, plus a red paint wash on its "underbelly" and arms. The main body contains its own gimmick, involving Alpha Q's spinning faces as seen in the cartoon. Opening the armor's jaws reveals Alpha Q's head, recessed within the body (though unable to move forward into a more prominent position as seen in the show), and pressing the trigger on the back of the body, disguised as one of the spinal fins, causes the head to spin from face to face. The toy only features the character's first three faces (Angry, Whiny and Crazy); the purple, calm face is not featured.

X-Brawn was forced to dump [[Kelly (RID)|Kelly]], and Side Burn was interrupted during a flirting session with a red sports car, but with Prowl's urging, the three of them reached New York. They kept [[Slapper (RID)|Slapper]], [[Dark Scream]] and [[Gas Skunk]] busy, but [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]] managed to kidnap [[Kenneth Onishi|Dr Onishi]]. {{storylink|Battle Protocol!}} They began patrolling the streets after a series of attacks on vehicles. car. Optimus attempted to come to Side Burn's aid and was captured too, leading to Prowl and X-Brawn adopting a disguise and rescuing the pair with the help of some of the Spychangers. {{Storylink|Sideburn's Obsession}} The Autobot Brothers were called in to help protect the steam engine "[[Grandpa]]" with Prime and Team Bullet Train, though their contribution to the effort was mostly limited to Side Burn chasing off Kelly. {{storylink|Secret Weapon: D-5}} After [[Skid-Z (RID)|Skid-Z]] came to Earth and went a bit loopy, Prowl tried to intercept him without success during the [[Europa 400]]. All of the Autobots subsequently entered the [[International Grand Prix]] under the assumption that race-crazy Skid-Z would put in an appearance. The Autobot Brothers foiled a Decepticon attack on a power plant. A short time later, they were warned by Sky-Byte that the Decepticons were going to attack the [[Bayshore power plant]]. Unfortunately the Decepticons instead attacked the [[Crestline power plant]], and the brothers got there to find Team Bullet Train had been forced to handle things. During a later attack, they were able to take some revenge on Sky-Byte. {{storylink|The Fish Test}} The brothers were dispatched to [[Antarctica]] to foil a Predcon plan, only to be stopped by an unfinished Space Bridge tunnel. When they confronted him, the Decepticons took them captive and used them to lure Prime into a trap. Fortunately Magnus rescued the trio. A battle over the artifact ensued, during which Side Burn caught up with them and helped retrieve the orb before the Decepticons did. {{storylink|Peril from the Past}} The brothers and the Build Team attempted to retrieve [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros]] from an ancient temple, only for him to be snatched from their grasp by the Decepticons. The Autobots showed out in force to protect Maximus, thought Side Burn had to be towed there by Tow-Line to avoid any distractions. There wasn't much they could do when they were facing the activated Fortress Maximus as well as Megatron reborn as Galvatron. When Scourge made another attempt to activate Maximus in a desert, Prime and the brothers turned out in a fairly futile attempt to stop him. Side Burn attempted to get Koji close enough to try a repeat performance of his trick back in Metro City, but it wasn't until Dr Onishi's idea to bring a thousand children out to the desert paid off that Maximus was stopped. {{storylink|The Human Element}} With Koji under obvious threat with his ability to control Maximus, the brothers were forced to watch over him constantly. Somehow he switched clothing with his friend [[Karl]] and gave the brothers the slip, which unfortunately resulted in Karl being kidnapped by Sky-Byte. Optimus worked up a mission to rescue Karl, and Koji talked Side Burn into letting him come along. The Predacons and Decepticons launched an attack on the Autobot base. The Autobot Brothers joined the other Autobots in preparing an ambush for the foe, only for Galvatron to bring in his fortress, the ''[[Megastar]]''. The Autobots ended up having to sit back and watch as Fortress Maximus fought the ''Megastar'', eventually destroying it. {{storylink|Surprise Attack!}} Galvatron, however, began siphoning energy from Maximus, and the brothers made an abortive attempt to stop him. After Galvatron used [[cyber-bat]]s to attack the world's children, Optimus ordered a retreat. Galvatron burst the Global Space Bridge tunnel they were using, flooding it with lava, but the Autobots were able to escape. He is willing to risk ''everything''—time, space, himself—if need be. He's willing to commit omnicide if it will further his goals. And there were times he would have won were it not for [[Optimus Primal]].

Megatron is skillful at orchestrating vast schemes by manipulating others into doing them for him—an idle suggestion here, a conspicuously-planted object of interest there. He knows his enemies, and these include [[Tarantulas (BW)|some]] [[Blackarachnia (BW)|minions]], inside and out and exactly how to provoke them. He has no friends, only pawns, or occasionally, [[Inferno (BW)|pawns that are too reliable to risk losing]]. Because of this attitude, this superiority complex, he despises working with the very troops he needs to carry out his plans. His hubris does not make him very popular, and so he must rely on power and fear to rule them. In fact, he prefers [[Vehicon (BM)|mindless drones]].

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) He has a twisted sense of humor and an over-developed sense of drama which rule everything he conceives, both long and short term. When he destroys you, he wants you to know that it was he who did this, and just how badly you were had. This is his greatest weakness. Like a Bond villain, he'll gladly boast to the hero at length about how smart and clever he was, giving his victim time to formulate a counterattack (he admits the Predacons sometimes gloat too much). He often sabotages himself by neglecting the quick and easy solutions for the bigger, meaner, and more complex.

Prior to the signing of the [[Pax Cybertronia]], Megatron was a field commander in the Predacon army, where he learned much about strategy and tactics. Upon ratification of peace with the [[Maximal Imperium]] most Predacons laid down their arms. Megatron refused and went rogue.

The Maximals' "[[bio-genetic morphing process]]" allowed them to fuse organic musculature and Transformers technology... so Megatron and his Predacons did the same thing, with the DNA of Earth's most vicious predators! When the Maximals tried to destroy the Predacons' lab, Megatron was waiting in his ferocious alligator form. Mistaken for a harmless Earth creature, he was able to get to the drop on Optimus Primal and summoned in his soldiers [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] and [[Waspinator]].

Megatron is a gambler and can sometimes be a ham. (His manner of saying "Yesss..." is practically vaudevillian.) Megatron battled several other Maximals and Predacons in an attempt to obtain a super-powerful [[energon crystal]] recently discovered on [[Earth]]. He was capable of summoning his lackeys, Waspinator, Terrorsaur, Tarantulas, Inferno and Scorponok in order to aid him in this task.

Megatron could also partake in various other tasks, such as a mission to break a boulder to reveal an energon crystal hidden within before sundown, using a block in a mission to defend himself against various incoming projectiles, and missions to run across a pit-riddled field, sometimes involving hideously large bacteria he had to fend off.

The series of one-on-one battles that ensued ended in a strange duel, when Megatron had to battle his double as a final opponent.
