:Bonecrusher is a Decepticon from the 2007 movie franchise in the live-action film continuity family.

Bonecrusher, also known as The Claw of Megatron, is a Transformer that can be described with one word: Hate. While other Decepticons get by on greed, ambition, or just their fondness for dispensing chaos, Bonecrusher is fueled by sheer, unrelenting hate. He hates everyone and everything, be they Autobot, Decepticon, or anything in-between—he even hates himself, revolted by his misshapen, hunchbacked robot mode, which he considers a reflection of all the ugliness and malice inside himself. The full force of this vicious cycle of hatred finds release in explosive frenzied bursts of psychotic brutality, as Bonecrusher takes out the full force of his bitterness and self-loathing on anyone who looks at him sideways. He hates that. He also hates Megatron, but would hate being terminated by the Decepticon leader more, so he sticks around.

On Cybertron, Bonecrusher was actually quite a skilled tactician—dedicated to the art of war, a fast thinker who could plough into battle while others were still mapping out strategy, and, most importantly in Megatron's eyes, a masterfully dirty fighter. However, Bonecrusher's skills left him consigned to a supervisory position and kept him off the battlefield, which, of course, he hated. Naturally, this only helped to increase his already epic levels of frustration and misery at his lot in life, until he became what he is today. He's so intensely pent-up that he'll unflinchingly take on opponents of any sizem-the bigger the better! Bonecrusher wouldn't hesitate to confront Optimus Prime head on, if he could.

He transforms into a Buffalo mine-clearing vehicle used by the military, perhaps because it was the vehicle he hated the least.
Bonecrusher was known and feared by Autobots for never giving up. He almost killed Jazz once and pursued him and his comrade Clocker for ages, driven by his hatred of nice-looking shiny robots (or nice-looking anythings). As he said, "I figure, why should they look so nice... when I look like this!" Clocker covered the wounded Jazz's retreat and tried to fight Bonecrusher, who hated that and killed him. Transformers Comic issue 6
Bonecrusher was surprisingly still alive and was in charge of security at the Decepticon's All Spark holding facility. Although he was happy that he has his arm and head reattached, he hated his job, as he was just a glorified drone director, and not able to kill anything himself. Thus, when he learned that Ironhide and Ratchet were trying to get into the facility, he decided to let the two Autobot infiltrators in, just so he could personally confront and kill them. So he not only disliked his job, he also wasn't very good at it. Transformers Comic issue 11 His fists hated on Ironhide's face before Ratchet stepped in, tearing the Decepticon up with offensive weaponry. Bonecrusher was one of many warriors who fought for Megatron on Cybertron before the planet was ultimately abandoned. Defiance issue 4

Bonecrusher was a member of Starscream's unit that was keeping Optimus Prime's reinforcements out of Tyger Pax. When Brawl arrived with news of Megatron and the All Spark, Bonecrusher insisted that they move on as they had already killed all the Autobots in the area. He then demanded that Brawl take them to Megatron or he would kill them all. Witnessing the launch of the All Spark, Barricade commented that Cybertron would die, but Bonecrusher replied that they should let it die, and that Barricade should join it in death. After Starscream and Blackout settled their differences, the group headed after Megatron. Planetfall (Movie)

They landed on Mars, the fourth planet of the solar system where they had detected the All Spark's energy signature. The Decepticons destroyed a primitive life form encountered on the surface. The Reign of Starscream Issue Number One

The Decepticons made planetfall on Earth in Afghanistan, quickly attracting the attention of a nearby US military base, which sent out an armoured personnel carrier to investigate. Bonecrusher declared his satisfaction in finally having something to kill, but this chance was snatched away when Wreckage scanned the vehicle and destroyed it. He hated when that happened. Hitting the US airbase, Bonecrusher easily killed the humans before scanning a Buffalo mine-clearance vehicle. Bonecrusher hated the notion of "disguise", but hated standing out more. After scanning, he complained that there weren't enough lifeforms to kill. Planetfall (Movie)

Ghosts of Yesterday prequel novel
Bonecrusher was part of the crew of the Nemesis, led by Starscream, who were searching for Megatron, who was lost thousands of years before, along with the All Spark. He hated Starscream, but then so did pretty much all the other Decepticons on board.

When Starscream left to go destroy an alien vessel, Bonecrusher eagerly joined Blackout's plan to attack the Ark against Starscream's orders, as there was nothing else to attack. Bypassing Optimus Prime, he headed straight for the Ark. However, when he forced his way into the hangar, Jazz and Ironhide were waiting, and unleashed hell upon him. He hated that. When Blackout ordered a withdrawal, Bonecrusher reluctantly complied.

Shortly afterwards, Barricade picked Bonecrusher to lead another assault on the Ark. His only response to the command was a growl. The battle went better, this time with Bonecrusher managing to inflict some serious damage on Jazz. When Starscream joined them, but refused to tell them what he'd learned about the alien ship, Blackout challenged their leader, and Bonecrusher and Frenzy kept well back. Blackout had his exhaust port handed to him, and Bonecrusher was ordered to drag him back to the Nemesis. During the subsequent fight, Bonecrusher had to fight Ironhide, and managed to dent his armor. However, when Starscream ordered the destruction of the alien ship, Blackout questioned his reasons, and Bonecrusher backed his fallen comrade up, though didn't press the issue as they were mid-battle. Later, Bonecrusher managed to spear Optimus with his tail, but the alien ship's weapons damaged Starscream enough that the Decepticons had to retreat, and Bonecrusher was forced to help his leader back to the Nemesis. Ghosts of Yesterday
Bonecrusher was hiding out in the motor pool of a military base when he received a communique from Starscream ordering the Decepticons to mobilize and converge on the location of the All Spark. Leaving the base, he reported that he was "rolling" out. Sometime after this, he rendezvoused with Barricade and Devastator, and the three Decepticons headed off together to intercept the Autobots and their human allies who had the All Spark in their possession.

Devastator wandered off somewhere, so Bonecrusher and Barricade continued their pursuit on the freeway. Barricade activated his sirens to clear the traffic and allow them more maneuvering room. Unsatisfied with Barricade's less conspicuous method, Bonecrusher used his mine-scoop to flip cars out of his way. Surprisingly, the Autobots didn't find this out of the ordinary, and only reacted when ladiesman217 recognized Barricade and warned the Autobots. Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Ratchet aligned to block the Decepticons from Bumblebee, who had the All Spark and the fleshlings.

After Barricade pulled over to the side of the road, Bonecrusher transformed while still moving and skated towards the Autobots. Optimus Prime transformed and slid into position to block his path. Seeing the Autobot he really hated, Bonecrusher smashed through a bus, and tackled Optimus Prime, pushing him off an overpass tumbling and falling off the edge, dragging the Autobot leader down with him.

When they landed, he sucker-punched Optimus Prime, who then hit Bonecrusher so hard one of the Decepticon's optics popped free from its socket, all the while being observed by a little kid in an SUV, who though the entire experience was totally cool. The two played a little cat-and-mouse along the overpasses. After Prime jumped down to ground level, Bonecrusher swung his tail wildly at the Autobot, all the while screaming incoherently. This gave Optimus the opportunity he needed to get his sword ready... which the Autobot leader used to cleave Bonecrusher's right arm and run through the Decepticon's neck, nearly severing it. Optimus then wrenched Bonecrusher's head from its neck and tossed it aside. Transformers (2007)

: In robot mode he has elements resembling both his 2005 design and the final design used in the movie, though a major deviation to both designs is that the entire front shell halves of the vehicle mode are mounted upon his arms. His arms have limited articulation due to this kibble, but can extend out into really long arms. : A 34-point "uncommon" character in the 3D Battle-Card Game, Bonecrusher is formed from pieces punched out from two different cards and can be assembled to form a mine-clearing vehicle or a robot. He also comes with a third card providing stats for his attacks in each mode. Bonecrusher uses the same parts layout as Longarm from the movie continuity and "Classic" Bonecrusher and Inferno from Generation 1.
Notes
* The real Buffalo mine-sweeping vehicle doesn't have such a huge fork. It is only 14 inches (35 cm) wide. The image that inspired Bonecrusher's design was actually a Photoshopped image put on the official Force Protection company's site to make it look more impressive. A 10-foot-wide (3 m) appliance had to be fixed on Bonecrusher's arm for the movie.

* Force Protection really loves Bonecrusher and the fact that he has picked their Buffalo as its alt mode. They are actually quite proud of it.

* Bonecrusher's toy was used as a prop for a CNN Headline News report demonstrating the real Buffalo vehicle's mine-sweeping arm.

* According to a press kit sent out in conjunction with the movie, Bonecrusher is, "another Constructicon" who "forms Brawl's left arm". Thus far, there have been no reports of people using Bonecrusher as one of Brawl's arms, left or otherwise.

* At various points during his fight with Optimus Prime, Bonecrusher emits some garbled roars that might be English. However, there is little agreement among viewers as to what he might be saying, and indeed, whether he even said anything at all. The subtitles and closed captions for the film do not identify any dialogue, just labeling it as "roaring" (Someone should really ask Jimmie Wood.) Considering the large amount of untranslated Cybertronic gibberish emitted by various Decepticons during the sequel Revenge of the Fallen, it seems most likely that Bonecrusher isn't intended to be saying anything comprehensible to human ears.

* Bonecrusher is Michael Bay's favorite character from the film, despite his limited screentime —so much so that Bay named his new dog after him. Bonecrusher still hates Bay for the small screen time he gets though.

* Bonecrusher is never discussed or mentioned in Transformers: The Movie Guide.

* In one of Hasbro's bimonthly Q & As, it was revealed that in retrospect, Hasbro thinks a Voyager-class figure would have been a better fit for the figure than the Deluxe.

* According to the DVD commentary, Bonecrusher's sequences were particularly difficult for ILM to do at first. The solution came from videotaping employees rollerblading in the parking lot, and a pair of fighting experts going through the motions wanted for Bonecrusher and Prime, then using that footage as references.

* Bonecrusher's movements seem to be heavily inspired by several types of sports including hockey (his running movements) and American football (his tackling on Optimus Prime).

* Last but not least, Bonecrusher hates you. Yeah, you. You know who you are. Don't try to pretend you don't know, either. Bonecrusher hates ignorance. And apples.

*Bonecrusher says (bloody hell) right before optimus take him down.

Before the war, Sideways was a simple courier so he's not a physical powerhouse like the other Decepticons. As he's pretty smart, Sideways prefers to team up with larger Decepticons in the battle against the Autobots. This way, his target-friendly companion takes all the heat! When he absolutely must face the enemy, he eagerly deploys the spinning saw blades on his arms.

Many would call him a coward, but Arcee and her sisters know differently. A world-class spy doesn't do anyone any good if he's compromised. He surrounds himself with dangerous traps, yet always leaves an escape route. Despite suffering seemingly mortal wounds, Sideways has never been captured.

Sideways made an early landing in Australia, with Optimus Prime and Arcee pursuing him through its northern territories. With his souped-up sports car alt mode, Sideways had them outclassed on the roads and was able to both outpace the Autobots and batter them about. Eventually, Optimus decided to change the terrain by blasting the Decepticon off the road. While willing to fight, the Decepticon gave up when human reinforcements arrived.

However, it became clear (to us, anyway) that he was meant to get captured as part of a plan to frame Skids and Mudflap: as soon as he was taken to Diego Garcia, Scorponok arrived to free him. Knocking Arcee aside and using debris as a weapon against humans, Sideways made good his escape. Transformers Comic issue 2.5

Unfortunately for Sideways, the other part of Soundwave's plan was to get Skids and Mudflap into the Decepticons, and there was no escape from the twins talking all the time and dissing him as an "average, creativity-stifled grunt". When the twins were sent to bring in Ransack, he protested that they were halfwits, and was relieved to find out they were just bait and he'd get to kill 'em afterwards.

Trailing the twins with Grindor, he discovered to his disgust that the twins had talked to Ransack instead of fighting. That was "the sort of example that so needs nipping in the bud", so he and Grindor attacked! Unfortunately for Sideways, the twins were only pretending to defect so they could capture a Decepticon; Mudflap engaged Sideways in a game of chicken, forcing the 'con off the road and straight into a tree. Transformers Comic issue 2.7
Sideways was hiding out in Shanghai with Demolishor when NEST came to investigate a possible Decepticon insurgence. At first, the two Decepticons remained concealed, but Demolishor soon transformed and attacked. While the soldiers and their Autobot allies were busy fighting off Demolishor, Sideways took advantage of the chaos and attempted to make his getaway. He was not entirely undetected, however, as Major Lennox sent out Arcee and the twins in pursuit.
With Arcee and the Twins on his tail, Sideways turned a corner to an apartment complex in his way. Rather than turn and lose momentum, Sideways chucked caution to the wind and transformed, jumping through the apartment building and out the other side. The Twins were unable to keep up with the chase, and Sideways was soon able to fight off Arcee. Sideways operated as a high-speed reconnaissance operative with the ability to snipe at Autobot opponents from afar with his plasma sniper rifle, engage them up-close with his rapid-firing slag repeater, and slow enemies to a crawl with his graviton mine when he needed to get away. He uses a pair of saws in melee combat.

Sideways was deployed to Shanghai after the Autobots and their NEST allies were detected interfering with an important operation in the area. Upon arrival, various Protectobot drones were sent to stop him, but failed. Later, Sideways was sent to the Shanghai waterfront to retrieve Grindor, who had been damaged and captured by the Autobots. The nimble Decepticon sports car used a combination of speed and guile to fight his way through the numerically superior Autobot forces, freed Grindor and escorted his bigger buddy back to the extraction point. He was sent back to the waterfront again find a cloaked Autobot probe that threatened the Decepticon operations in China. Following the probe's wake, Sideways raced through the waterfront past startled human dockworkers and the Protectobot units assigned to the area, destroying the probe as it revealed itself. Revenge of the Fallen (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)
*Sideways (Deluxe, 2009)
**Japanese ID number: RD-05

:Deluxe-Class Sideways features Automorph action during the conversion from car to robot mode. When the front bumper is pressed, his front pair of wheels automatically flip underneath the hood, and his robot abs flip down. There is also some Mech Alive: you can see internal gears moving in his fore-arms when moving his arms, as well as a turning disk on each of his elbows. On his right arm is a spinning "saw" blade. He is probably the least film-accurate toy to date (that doesn't fall in a lesser size-class or different toy-line), but that doesn't make him any less awesome.

:Unlike the other on-screen characters in Revenge of the Fallen who turn into consumer vehicles, Sideways' vehicle mode is merely an approximation of an Audi R8 and is not an accurate replica. This is because the toy vehicle, lacking Audi signage, is unlicensed. Deluxe class Sideways is missing the black front lid, roof and rear hood seen on Sideways toys of other price points, and the real car. However, all of the toys are missing the unique silver stripes on top of the black areas seen on the APR-tuned Audi R8, which was the car used in the movie.

:Yet another victim of late mold changes rampant among the 2008-2009 financial crisis, Sideways appears to have had a hinged thumb on his left hand in Hasbro stock photos whereas this is a solid section molded on to the arm on the final toy. Although not indicated on any early photos nor instructions, Sideways' windshield underside has two notches that connect to Sideways' hood on small square pegs immediately behind the front wheels. This requires folding up the two small triangular pieces on top of the hood. Also it seems as if the spinning saw blade was originally powered by gears, the gearbox and shaft for the lever can still be seen on his right forearm but are molded just like his thumb onto the arm.

:Along with Breakaway, Sideways was initially released in two color schemes, a light silver version and a less common very dark silver version. If you move the headlights, doors and legs of the lighter Sideways to the darker one, allowing for a dark hood and roof, and silver everywhere else, it helps to make for a slightly more movie-accurate Sideways. However, the stripes will still be missing.

:This mold was retooled into the Deluxe class version of Revenge of the Fallen Dead End.
He has rotational articulation at both shoulders and extremely limited neck articulation. Curiously, he holds a chainsaw-like blade in his hand, rather than it being integrated into wheel-kibble on his wrist. However, this is pretty close to how his weapon actually works in the official video game; when Sideways fights in melee, his wheel-blades spread out to form razor-edged ovals, presumably for added reach.

* The AllSpark Almanac Volume 2 revealed that the other Sideways—the devious dimension-hopping minion of Unicron—had made contact with the Animated universe, and that, while inhabiting that universe, he adopted a body form with minor similarities to Revenge of the Fallen Sideways and shows an interest in visiting Shanghai. If that character were to make that transit in keeping with his past established behavior then it would mean that Revenge of the Fallen Sideways is, after all, Robots in Disguise/Unicron Trilogy/Robot Masters/Animated Sideways. However, the book only asserts his intention to visit Shanghai, not that he actually traveled there, nor does it specify which dimension's Shanghai he even meant—there is no unambiguous proof that such a jaunt was made and that the two Sidewayses must be the same character. Author Jim Sorenson characterized the book as being meant to match the Animated series' penchant for "in-jokes and Easter Eggs" , suggesting that he might not have meant it to be taken seriously. It is left to individual fans to judge matters for themselves.

*When Audi was looking to win screen time for one of its cars in the summer films during 2009, Ruben Igielko-Herrlich, a marketing consultant from Propaganda Global Entertainment Marketing, helped the company to find an opportunity in the film Revenge of the Fallen. Ruben talked the staff from the film into finding a role for the Audi R8. Ultimately, an Audi R8 appears in the film as Sideways. Thus, Sideways became the only car Transformer in the movie whose alternate mode is not manufactured by General Motors.

* According to the pre-visualization animation from the movie DVD's bonus material, Sideways was originally supposed to have a Lamborghini alternate mode as compared to the Audi R8 seen in the film.

* Sideways's toys and merchandise are not licensed by Audi, and are thus merely approximations of the R8. However, Sideways' appearance in the Revenge of the Fallen video games is fully licensed, so he is accurate to the car used in the film and has Audi's logos and signage.

* According to designer Hisashi Yuki, the wheels on the hands were a rushed late addition due to a design change in the movie character model. This is why the hand tires are not integrated more properly into the toy.

Revenge of the Fallen- The Game (Xbox 360/Sony PS3/PC)
Decepticon campaign

Autobot campaign
The Autobots were deployed to China when NEST forces detected the presence of Decepticons in Shanghai. Sideways secreted himself within the urban jungle and sent waves of Stunticon drones against Ironhide. After the last batch of Stunticons had been defeated, Sideways revealed himself, taking pot shots at the powerful Autobot with his slag repeater, after which he would <s>cheese it</s> flee through the narrow alleyways where Ironhide had difficulty following. While the Autobot struggled to pass the cramped causeways, Sideways set himself up on the roof of the tallest residential block and fired his plasma sniper rifle. Ironhide shrugged off the blasts, clambered up the building, and with a mighty punch, sent Sideways plummeting to the ground, reducing him to scrap. Revenge of the Fallen (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)
*Sideways (Legends, 2009)
**Japanese ID number:
: A smaller-scale Sideways with a simplified transformation reminiscent of Barricade's, such as making the sides of the car into his arms. He features ball joint hips, backwards knee things, and ball joint arms for articulation. Like with the Deluxe toy, the car lacks the wide black stripe from the movie.

: This mold was also used to make 2010 Transformers Override.

Deluxe Class toys
