Honestly I think "types of quints" would probably make more sense just as a sub section here, so I started it as so, feel free to delete or move it if others feel otherwise. Question: The two pics I uploaded are refered to in the TFU entry as Guard and Gatekeepr, but I've seen them named elsewhere as Baliff and Executioner, but with no official source listed for thos tittles. Does anyone know if those are deffinately official and where they're from, off hand? --ZacWilliam 11:41, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

:IIRC, the baliff designation comes from the 'The Ultimate Guide style' additions someone was making last year. Baliff isn't from the original TFU, and it's not from MtMtE, and I'm pretty sure it's not from TUG. So unless it's from, like, the original movie script of Dery's character models... it's probably not official. -Derik 11:50, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I am a big supporter of our humorous picture captions, so I'm surprised to be posting this, but I think the main one here *might* actually be a detriment. When the subject of a picture is obvious, which is most cases, the humerous captions are great, but the Quintesson faction symbol used for the main pic here is really pretty obscure. I can easily imagine someone comming across this page and not knowing what the heck that image is or where it comes from. Some sort of explanitory caption for that image would be rather useful I think. --ZacWilliam 12:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Quintessons as an Allegory for Toy Executives?
I just realized something after listening to my prof go on about allegories (extended metaphors used throughout an entire text). Maybe the Quintessons were a metaphorical way for the fiction writers to describe Hasbro and Takara executives.

Some similarities I've noticed include that both created the Transformers and both kill off various Transformers for reasons that may or may not make any sense in context with the rest of the fiction (the Quints in their weird sense of "justice", the execs To Sell Toys). Both also see Transformers as consumer goods (with the Quints killing off the Mutants in IDW's Beast Wars: The Gathering because they are "unmarketable products") and have no qualms about destroying characters, factions, storylines, etc. in pursuit of the allmighty dollar (or galactic credit, or whatever the hell Quints use).

Anyone else notice this trend, or is this just the rantings of a coffee-deprived English major? --Nightshade83 14:29, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

:Probably the later, but an interesting idea nonetheless. At one point after a gender-focused anthropology class I thought it quite "interesting" that the Decepticons tended to favor long phalic canon weapons, while the autobots icon was spherical womb-like and life giving. Try explaining that observation and not coming off odd.--ZacWilliam 14:35, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
::Zac... 'Matrix' means 'womb/mother,' the word dates from ancient Egypt.
::Also I think that the Quints as Hasbro execs it a valid reading... but I think it rests almost entirely in aspects added to the fiction post-1987. In their original conception they are roman emperors (TF:TM) and unchecked, untemptered capitalism (Season 3.) The recurring riff about Quints not understanding complex emotions appears to be a specific attack on the 'Greed is Good' decade (80's,) arguing that the Quints have in effect become slaves to their own greed- eternally playing catch-up to try and recoup/make good their losses. -Derik 14:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
:::I hate to admit this, but I've only seen TF:TM once, and I've never seen any Season 3 eps. But hey, Quintessons as general social criticism works just as well as direct allegories. The same basic message is put across -- Transformers are more than just toys to be sold. Good point Derik. --Nightshade83 02:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
'Absolute cowards'
id like to dispute this line in the opening paragraph. the quintessons are extremely pragmatic and incapable of fighting, so if they are in danger they retreat but they showed little to no fear in most circumstances, and when they did is was equal or less than youd expect of most characters in their situation. in five faces of darkness when one fell into the sharkticon tank the others stated that he was to die as well, in response the doomed quint not only is utterly calm, and even praised their decision to let him die. so, do you think this line should stay? Decay
Transtech picks up directly after Beast Machines (and Universe now), and all the characters (except a few) are either returning G1 characters or the same Maximals from the Beast Era. : Another thought- Could TT Cheetor and Silverbolt be alternate-universe-incarnations of the BW/BM characters? (Which kind of makes sense, because the Axiom Nexus is the "hub" of the multiverse.) After all, TT Cheetor and DOFP Cheetor's car modes look awfully similar.Darktruth 15:38, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Beast Machines too long
The Beast Machines section seems to have been changed to a VERY length character analysis. It's really not consistent with the rest of the Wiki or even the rest of this article

Radical surgical intervention
This is probably the most major character to have needed the most severe rework / rewrite for the longest period of time on this wiki. Beast Wars isn't even done, and all of Beast Machines is some sort of English Lit essay that is in the wrong style, nearly impenetrable, and if you even read it it doesn't actually convey what Cheetor DOES. I asked the essay author at least 8 months ago to please try to correct it and he hasn't. So I'm cutting it ALL, since I think leaving it up here can give the false impression that this article is a lot more "done" than it really is. If people really want to read through and pick out the events of each episodes as part of a rewrite they can certainly look at the history page, but honestly I think the best bet is just a start from scratch.--Thylacine 2000 11:26, 13 June 2009 (EDT)

Thylacine--I'm very sorry I didn't do the edit of that section. I was preparing to cut it down when the bookwork deal hit the site and the Cheetor page rolled back--I actually assumed that the Beast Machines section had been cut permanently by the roll-back. I would be happy to redo what I have, as I still have the original, though I have to protest that I most certainly did not post it 8 months ago. In fact, I put it here only a few weeks before the bookwork fiasco. I'm sorry it didn't meet the standards of the site; I'm used to another kind of writing, I'm afraid. The Beast Wars section is also rather piecemeal, and I actually find it easier to talk some about his transformation as a character instead of tracing every one of his mundane actions in canon (he's in just about every episode, after all). I might also add that some review of his relationship to other characters and some analysis is not to be feared, though I'm sorry you found it impenetrable. I will also note for the record that I am a she.--Aubretia 2:36, 25 June 2009 (PST)
Why are kid appeal characters ALWAYS yellow? You've got Bumblebee, Cheetor, Hot Shot... I thought it just merited pointing out.

Rodimus/Hot Rod "blooper"?
Well, there's a conflict of opinion, so let's discuss.

Rodimus Prime never turned back into Hot Rod without removing the Matrix from his chest. The last time Rodimus Prime lost control of his transformation, he turned into the Winnebaggo as always. It looks to me more like Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime's character models got switched by mistake at some point. Gauthier is still using his Rodimus voice rather than his Hot Rod voice. He reverts back to his Rodimus model inexplicably as the Technobots fight the Terrorcons. Doesn't make any sense, it reeks of blooper, in my opinion. --Detour 11:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

:But he's *not* using his Rodimus voice - he's speaking with the different, higher-pitched "younger" voice he traditionally uses for Hot Rod when he says: "It's happening again! Perceptor!" Youtube link I don't disagree that it's completely nonsensical, or anything, but it really looks like it was intentional, like the anti-electrons affected his body and turned him back into Hot Rod for some reason. - Chris McFeely (not signed in)

::Fair enough. Really seemed like a blooper to me, though. Thanks for correcting me. --Detour 17:17, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
:::Was at work when I added that previous response, so when I was struck with the idea to check the original script, I couldn't, but I'm home now and I've had a look, and indeed, the line I quoted is, in fact, credited to "Hot Rod," rather than Rodimus. I guess the anti-electrons made him lose his connection to the Matrix, maybe? - Chris McFeely 19:06, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed while watching this episode recently that Perceptor's 'Electro-map' sounds like a tri-corder from Star Trek: The Original Series. Femmes Rule! 17:07, 12 December 2011 (EST)
Creating Transformers
Is it me, or is it ridiculously easy to create Cybertronian life in the original cartoon? I mean, first you've got the Dinobots created on Earth by Wheeljack and Spike; later (depending upon how you chose to look at things), Megatron creates the Constructions, or, following the same vein, the Constructions create Megatron. And then the Technobots get built in like twenty seconds by Grimlock, which has to be some kind of speed record. I know all this silliness happend before the concept of the spark was introduced, but it does make it seem kinda... cheap, right?
