==Synopsis==
In a wild valley, a group of [[Protohuman|primitive hominids]] forage for food. A gargantuan snake attacks two of their number, and the protohumans are helpless to stop it...

At the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'', a haunted Dinobot meditates on his sword... and holds its blade ominously over his chest. But after a long moment of tension and hesitation, he casts it aside with a growl of frustration.

Rhinox has been calculating the path of the [[Transwarp wavefront|Transwarp Wave]] from the [[Planet Buster]]'s destruction—it's traveling through time at an accelerated rate, and will reach [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] in the "present", thus alerting Cybertron to their location. Optimus fears Megatron has made similar calculations, and the group realizes they need to increase their defenses.

Dinobot, still somber, runs into Rattrap, who nearly goads him into a fight over his turning the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Disk]] over to Megatron. Rattrap stalks off, concluding that he'd thought Dinobot was at least forthright. Dinobot is left to reflect that his past actions cannot be undone... but they "may yet be mitigated". He arms himself and heads off into the wastes.

On aerial recon, Cheetor observes Megatron and Rampage out for a stroll. They drive him off with some damage, but Cheetor calls in the sighting to Dinobot, who promises to follow up.

At [[Tarantulas's lair|his lair]], Tarantulas has captured a tasty antelope for his dinner. But as he creeps up to the struggling beast, Dinobot bursts out of the ground, holding him at gunpoint and demanding to know what information is on the Golden Disk. Tarantulas doesn't know—there are no more copies remaining, and Megatron is keeping the Disk on his person at all times. Still holding him at gunpoint, Dinobot uses Tarantulas as his unwilling ride.

The protohumans scatter and panic as Megatron flies overhead and lands. Rampage sneers that the Maximals will soon arrive from Cybertron, and that he anticipates Megatron's imminent demise. Megatron admits that's very likely... but only if history remains as it is.

Megatron explains that the Golden Disk contains images recorded in the future, including one of a nearby mountain. Megatron has Rampage destroy the mountaintop. After a moment, the image on the disk changes to suit the altered reality, to Megatron's delight. Dinobot observes all this with dawning dread: Megatron has the power to change the future.

The valley they are standing above, Megatron explains, spawned the human race. Their interference helped the Autobots win the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]], thereby allowing the Maximals to rule over the Predacons today. But Megatron has a different history in mind. Summoning the rest of his troops, he orders them to annihilate the valley and its inhabitants. With the protohumans destroyed, the human race will never have existed!

While Dinobot's back is turned, Tarantulas blasts him; Dinobot reciprocates by squashing him under a rock. Dinobot contacts Optimus, who orders him to maintain position, but Dinobot knows there is no time to wait. With his questions answered, Dinobot is ready to face his destiny.

Dinobot moves in to attack the entire Predacon force single-handed. He blasts Inferno and Blackarachnia (stabbing the former for good measure), stomps Waspinator, forces Rampage's cannon to backfire (using Waspinator's head), and pummels Quickstrike (with his bare hands), but loses his weapons, suffers considerable damage, and drains most of his energy supply. His computer warns him that he must enter [[stasis lock]] to survive... a command which Dinobot overrides.

Megatron confronts the damaged warrior, gloating over his near-total victory; when Dinobot starts to attack, Megatron reveals a protohuman captive. The hostage is enough to make Dinobot halt; Megatron rebukes him for weakness. But Dinobot is a warrior still. Forging a makeshift hammer from a rock and stick, he knocks the Disk out of Megatron's hand and frees the protohuman. With the last of his energy, he summons one final optic blast, shattering the Disk.

Nearly mad with frustration, Megatron flees as the [[Maximal]]s arrive. Rattrap gasps in horror at the sight of his comrade, while Cheetor douses the flames of the burning valley. The Maximals gather around the fallen Dinobot, but it is too late to help him. Optimus assures him that he has saved untold lives yet to come. Dinobot exchanges a final round of barbs with Rattrap; he asks them all to tell his story truthfully, both the good and the bad, and allow him to be judged accordingly. "The rest is silence." With that, the proud warrior dies. Rattrap leads the others in a salute as Dinobot's [[spark]] leaves his body, with Primal wishing it on to the Matrix, there to join Cybertron's finest.

The next morning, the Maximals hold a funeral for Dinobot. The fliers soar through the air in a [[wikipedia:missing man formation|salute]], as Rattrap and Rhinox dissolve Dinobot's remains.

At the valley, a curious protohuman (the same one Dinobot rescued) finds Dinobot's hammer. He soon figures out how to use it to help gather food... and to fend off predators, such as the giant snake. The protohuman's yell of triumph echoes through the valley; and high above, a brief flicker appears in the void of space.

==Notes==
* In this episode, the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Voyager Disk]] resembles an old record (complete with being labeled "The Sounds of Earth") instead of the design used since its appearance in [[Beast Wars (Part 1)|the first episode]]. Given its origin as a record in a canister, however, it's possible that Megatron has simply taken it out of its case to test his theory of time-meddling.

===Animation and technical errors===
* The interior of the ''Axalon'', and thus the doors to Dinobot's quarters, were made at a different scale to his character model, so he could not actually fit through the doorway. Bob Forward explained that it had to be faked by a cut.
* When Rattrap is working at the wall panel, his right forearm is backwards and remains thus until he is grandly gesturing.
* When Megatron is flying over the proto-human valley, his legs are missing and his body has very little detail. It's especially noticeable when he flies towards the camera and transforms into robot mode-at which point his legs appear out of nowhere.
* As the Maximals head out, Rhinox's running animation is being played unnaturally fast to keep up with the others.
* As Quickstrike approaches Dinobot, his left shin is backwards.
* At Dinobot's funeral, Rattrap is in his pre-Transmetal body. On the [[Madman]] DVD commentary for this episode, Bob Forward could not believe how the production team (who had viewed this scene at least a hundred times trying to get everything right) did not notice the fact they used the wrong Rattrap, and yet every fan did.

===Continuity errors===
* The strategy of the Maximal cavalry seems a bit odd. Granted, arriving in ones and twos would make them more vulnerable to attack but surely there would be some advantage in sending at least Cheetor on ahead? Or are we supposed to assume that every single Maximal, from jet-powered cheetah to bog-standard rhino, has the same top speed? (It's especially odd for Rhinox, considering that vehicle-mode Rattrap has given someone a lift [[Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)|before]], and Primal will give Rhinox a lift [[The Agenda (Part III)|later]]).
* When Dinobot laments about Megatron's power being limitless, Megatron and Rampage can be seen on the cliff right behind him. This and the previous shot also indicate that Dinobot is ''right out in the open'', possibly exposing himself in full view of both Predacons. So...exactly ''why'' didn't Megatron or Rampage notice Dinobot, now?
* Towards the end of the episode, a mechanical thud can be heard when the snake hits the ground, making it sound as if the snake is made of metal.
*Rattrap mentions that Dinobot would be up against six Predacons when there was a total of seven. (Out of universe, this is likely for the audience's benefit, in case they weren't keeping track.) Either he had totally forgotten about Tarantulas, somehow heard Dinobot defeating Tarantulas over his open comlink, or assumed that Tarantulas would still not be working with Megatron.
* Megatron's strategy of destroying the human race before it evolves has a critical deterministic error; if he succeeds in preventing the human race from coming into being, then the golden disk would never have been created by [[NASA]] in the future. Megatron would never have been able to acquire the disk in the first place, and thus would not have the foresight to attempt to destroy the human race, and then the human race would have evolved as normal, creating the golden disk in the future... and so on and so forth.

*Megatron orders the destruction of the prehumans to prevent the development of mankind. Humans assisted the Autobots to win the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]]. Most of these were probably [[Witwicky]]s.

* As the Predacons jump into the valley to destroy the hominids, Rampage crushes a butterfly. This evokes the famous Ray Bradbury short story "[[wikipedia:A Sound of Thunder|A Sound of Thunder]]", in which a time traveler in the past steps on a butterfly, thus dramatically altering the future of humanity.
* When Dinobot is leaving the base, he comments that "a deed, once done, cannot be undone", a slight modification of the Shakespearean quote "what is done cannot be undone".

'''Thrust''' was one of the first of [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]'s [[Vehicon general|Vehicon generals]] to be created, and was the last one to stand against the [[Maximal|Maximals]]. Commander of the [[Motorcycle Drone|Motorcycle Drones]], he is a dark, cold, brooding type, and is absolutely devoted to Megatron's goals, even though he knows what it means in the end for him. He is almost completely fearless, says ''exactly'' what is on his mind (he had the lugnuts to tell Megatron just how dumb his plan of using Maximal sparks to power the other two Vehicon Generals was), and takes a delight in tormenting his foes both physically and psychologically.

Oddly, despite initial backstabbing, he grew to consider his fellow General [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] a friend, which developed into a white-hot hatred when Jetstorm was reverted into the Maximal [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]]. He refused to even call Silverbolt by his name, calling him "Jetstorm" and "traitor".

Thrust's personality and mind is in fact a shell program powered by the [[spark]] of the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] [[Waspinator]]. Despite this, Thrust has virtually no similarities to Waspinator, and the Predacon is ''very'' happy to be in the cool "biker-bot", even if only as a power source.

His [[Activation code|Command Code]] is "overdrive," although in one anomalous instance, he used the phrase "accelerate."

Thrust can be distinguished from his drones by his size and yellow markings.

Thrust was one of three Vehicons granted individual sparks by [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] in an effort to defeat the Maximals; Thrust was given the spark of Waspinator. {{storylink|Fires of the Past}} Waspinator was aware of Thrust's actions, and the brooding, sarky, badass personality was utter ''heaven'' for the bug! {{storylink|The Catalyst}}

Along with Tankor and Jetstorm, he pursued [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and [[Rattrap]] when they attempted to recover information about what happened while they were offline, but failed to capture them. {{storylink|Fires of the Past}} After being chewed out by Megatron, the generals again attempted to apprehend the Maximals, but Thrust and Jetstorm decided to destroy each other to avoid having to share any rewards. While they were thus occupied, Tankor of all bots managed to capture the Maximals. Thrust and Jetstorm decided to put aside their differences in order to take out the big lug, but ended up getting [[slag (slang)|slagged]]. {{storylink|Mercenary Pursuits}}

Later, during a battle between the Maximals and Vehicons, Thrust saved the life of Blackarachnia, though quickly wondered why. The two wandered into a spark extraction facility, where a massive [[spark extractor]] attempted to extract their sparks. Thrust again saved Blackarachnia, and was in turn saved by her. Thrust began having flashbacks to the time when his spark was first extracted, but was interrupted by the sudden arrival of the other Maximals before he could remember anything. {{storylink|Revelations Part I: Discovery}}

After that, he and Jetstorm were attacked by Blackarachnia and Nightscream while Cheetor and Rattrap worked to reawaken Tankor's Maximal spark. Blackarachnia, convinced that Thrust was carrying [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt's]] spark, tried to help him remember their past, which resulted in Thrust having more flashbacks, this time to the time he spent on Earth. However, before he could remember his previous identity, Jetstorm attacked and accused him of betrayal. Thrust claimed he was just trying to stall Blackarachnia; Jetstorm, unconvinced, ordered Thrust to prove his loyalty to Megatron by extracting Blackarachnia's spark. He grudgingly agreed to this, but was interrupted by Nightscream. Unfortunately, Blackarachnia's spark was extracted anyway, by Jetstorm. {{storylink|Revelations Part II: Descent}} Thrust picked up Blackarachnia's body and pursued Jetstorm. After an altercation with Nightscream, who had recovered Blackarachnia's spark in the meantime, Thrust fled, leaving Blackarachnia to be re-ensparked by Nightscream. {{storylink|Revelations Part III: Apocalypse}}

After that, he was sent with Jetstorm and Tankor to apprehend Nightscream as part of an attempt to remove Megatron's organic components. Nightscream escaped and Thrust and Jetstorm pursued him, but were defeated by Nightscream's sonic scream. {{storylink|Survivor}} Shortly thereafter, while on a wild goose chase courtesy of Tankor, Thrust was exposed to [[organic goo]] courtesy of Blackarachnia, which caused him to revert to his Waspinator personality. After explaining how he returned to Cybertron, Waspinator was driven to rage when Blackarachnia spurned him. However, before he could cause any damage, he was zapped by a duplicate [[Key to Vector Sigma]], causing him to revert to his Thrust persona.

After this event, Thrust stopped trying to save Blackarachnia and she stopped trying to get him defect. No [[technorganic]] salvation for ''you'', Waspy! {{storylink|The Catalyst}}

Some time later, Optimus Primal used the [[Plasma energy|Plasma Energy Chamber]] against Megatron's Keys to Vector Sigma, apparently destroying them both, along with Tankor. {{storylink|End of the Line}} With the war apparently over, Thrust and Jetstorm were invited to join the Maximals, but they instead decided to strike out on their own. Thrust got hostile at the idea of Jetstorm getting reformatted, deciding he viewed the general as a friend and didn't want to lose him. {{storylink|Fallout}}. During this time, they were attacked by [[Noble|Savage]], an event which they initially blamed on the Maximals. They did temporarily team up with their old enemies against this new threat, but their insistence on attacking Savage and antagonising Noble earned them nothing more than a trashing. {{storylink|Savage Noble}} Thrust would go up against Savage once again when he and Jetstorm attempted to apprehend Nightscream. Savage, now free from Megatron's spark, gave Thrust a sound thrashing. He called out for Jetstorm, but unfortunately for him, Jetstorm had since been reformatted into Silverbolt, who pushed him over the edge of the cliff from which he was dangling. {{storylink|In Darkest Knight}} Thrust would subsequently reserve a special hatred for Silverbolt, seeing him as a traitor to the Vehicon cause.

Following the loss of Jetstorm, Megatron resurrected the [[Hate Plague]] and generated a variant which would apparently only affect [[technorganic]] life, and sicced it on the Maximals. Thrust led a group of Motorcycle Drones to eliminate them, but decided to conserve ammo by letting the Maximals destroy each other. However, the Maximals were able to overcome the effects of the virus and chased Thrust out. {{storylink|A Wolf in the Fold}}

After this, Thrust was apparently given command of the remaining Tank Drones and Sonic Jet Drones (even with the arrival of Obsidan and Strika, Thrust would have been the senior Vehicon General since he had served under Megatron for the longest amount of time, especially when you count his time as Waspinator). When a ship carrying a [[Botanica (BM)|strange plant being]] crashed on Cybertron, Megatron sent Thrust to recover it and its contents to avoid them falling into the hands of the Maximals. By judicious use of his drone army, Thrust was able to reach the ship first, but was knocked out by Optimus Primal before he could enter. He then chased the Maximals to the Oracle chamber, where Botanica had fled; upon reaching it, he deployed a huge number of Tank Drones to destroy both the Maximals and the trees, but they were all eliminated in one attack by the reformatted Botanica despite her not having a [[toy]].

Outnumbered, Thrust fled, telling Botanica she had made a big mistake. He complained to Megatron about the unfair situation, {{storylink|Home Soil}} prompting Megatron to resurrect [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika (BM)|Strika]]. Around this time, he apparently started reverting somewhat to Waspinator, as he was beaten up and damaged when he tried to stop the Maximals salvaging spare parts, by Obsidian when he tried to brief the new generals on the current situation, by Megatron when he attempted to rub Obsidian and Strika's faces in their recent failure to destroy the Maximals, {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. I: The Strike}} by Savage when he led a force of Cycle Drones to pursue Optimus Primal and Nightscream to the ruins of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. II: The Search}} and by the force of gravity when the [[Grand Mal]] crashed into Cybertron's surface. {{storylink|Sparkwar Pt. III: The Siege}}

Following Megatron's depolarization, Thrust again wandered Cybertron aimlessly. He encountered Obsidian and Strika, who were considering joining forces with the Maximals. Thrust asked how they could be truly loyal to anybody if they were loyal to everybody, and drove off. His words gave the other generals pause, and when Rattrap repolarized Megatron, inspired them to return to the side of villainy. Thrust encountered them again soon enough and tried to take command, only for Megatron to berate him for being useless and announce the final stage of his plan. Obsidian, however, stated that it was Thrust who had made him and Strika realise their loyalties lay with Megatron. {{storylink|Spark of Darkness}}

In the final battle, Thrust led a force of Cycle drones against the Maximals. Despite accidentally destroying several of his own drones and being attacked by Strika due to Rattrap's latest gadget, he led a large force to the Grand Mal, just in time to see it crash to Cybertron. {{storylink|Endgame Pt. I: The Downward Spiral}} Thrust personally took on Silverbolt, taunting him by calling him 'Jetstorm', and when he and Blackarachnia went down, Thrust, Strika, and Obsidian penetrated the Grand Mal.

Inside, Cheetor activated the anti-gravity generators, blasting Obsidian and Strika into orbit. Thrust, however, managed to avoid the field and engaged Cheetor personally. '''Waspinator''' is the universe's whipping boy. If something goes wrong, it happens to him. If something blows up, he's usually at the epicenter of the explosion. He has been blasted, burned, shot down, torn up, crushed, slashed, smashed, bashed, and otherwise reduced to his component parts times beyond counting. Disturbingly, [[Rattrap]] has taken to collecting his severed components.

Waspinator's not the brightest 'bot in the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]]. Megatron has classified the harebrained Predacon as expendable, much to Waspinator's dismay; he doesn't get much more respect from anyone else, either. His speech quirks don't help: he tends to refer to himself in the third person and to most other people by nicknames like [[Cheetor (BW)|"cat-bot"]] and [[Quickstrike (BW)|"two-head"]]. He's also a bit too fond of the letter "Z". (Those prone to witticisms might say he has a "lizzzzp".)

Waspinator, part of [[Megatron (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s rogue band of Predacons, landed on an unknown planet with dangerous levels of unstable [[energon]]. To protect themselves from the energon, the Predacons took organic beast modes. In Waspinator's case, he now transformed into a large, green wasp. The first conflict between the stranded Predacons and their Maximal pursuers came when the Maximal [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] stumbled across Waspinator. In a stark contrast to his later career, he actually proved to be a serious threat and had the advantage over the inexperienced Cheetor, pinning the young Maximal down in a canyon. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 1)}}

The Predacons pursued the Maximals and interrupted a fight between [[Optimus Primal/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]] and [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]]. When a stray shot exposed a cache of energon atop a nearby mountain, the Predacons headed for it. Waspinator was teamed with [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] for the first time, in an attempt to slow the Maximals down. They were chased off by a missile from Primal and rejoined the others for a mountaintop battle, wherein Cheetor attempted to have a rematch with Waspinator. {{storylink|Beast Wars (Part 2)}}

He helped [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] and Terrorsaur install some perimeter defenses around the Predacon base. {{storylink|The Web}} When Cheetor ended up in the Predacon base through some sort of freak teleportation system, Waspinator and Scorponok tried to kill him, but only succeeded in blowing themselves up with their own missiles. Little did Waspinator know that he would be blown up numerous times in the adventures to come. {{storylink|Equal Measures}}

Waspinator was part of an attack on the Maximals at the [[Standing Stones]]. He survived that battle, but when an [[Vok probe|alien probe]] appeared at the circle, he and Megatron attempted to take possession of it, and a pulse of energy zapped them. They turned up, badly damaged, back at the Predacon base. After repairs, Megatron sent Waspinator and Scorponok to guard the circle. The Maximals soon turned up to try and extract Primal from the probe, and Waspinator attempted to sneak up on [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]], only for the Maximal to ventilate him with a chaingun. Waspinator fell backwards against a standing stone, activating a sequence which freed Primal from the probe. {{storylink|Chain of Command}}

After Terrorsaur managed to slag Megatron and take leadership of the Predacons, Waspinator and Scorponok promptly fixed Megatron. {{storylink|Power Surge}} When a [[stasis pod]] crashed, Waspinator and Terrorsaur went directly to the ''Axalon'' and ambushed Optimus Primal when he emerged to look for the pod. Though they succeeded, Dinobot dropped a huge rock on Waspinator, and Terrorsaur had to help his fellow. Waspinator was still healthy enough to report to Megatron, who sent the pair to capture the pod. On the way, they managed to slow down the Maximals by destroying an ice bridge, but by the time they reached the pod, [[Tigatron]] had already been activated. In one of Waspinator's few victories, he managed to retrieve the stasis pod which gave birth to [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]]. When Terrorsaur again deposed Megatron, Waspinator seemed happy to follow his fellow Predacon. {{storylink|Double Jeopardy}} Perhaps that was why he was subsequently assigned with Blackarachnia and Terrorsaur to deliver a [[sonic emitter]] to a location below the ''Axalon''. Dissatisfied with the task, he went to fly around for a bit and mutter to himself, only to give away their position accidentally. Though he returned to the other two Predacons, they were discovered by Tigatron, who destroyed the sonic emitter. {{storylink|A Better Mousetrap}} After Primal was inadvertently turned into a berserker by Scorponok's [[cyberbee]], Waspinator attempted to track down Optimus in the Predacon base, but found himself pulled through a wall and blasted. {{storylink|Gorilla Warfare}}

Waspinator acted as bait for the first test of [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]]'s [[transformation lock lens]]. The test was a success, but Waspinator was slagged by Tigatron. {{storylink|The Probe}} He was later one of the trio who mounted a mock revolt against Megatron to fool the Maximals. The Predacons concealed themselves in a crevasse (where Waspinator apparently spent his nights cuddling Tarantulas like a soft toy) while the Maximals repaired the ''Axalon''. They were discovered by Dinobot, who dropped a large rock on Waspinator and Terrorsaur. Though the latter survived to battle on, Waspinator apparently didn't. {{storylink|Victory (episode)|Victory}}

When [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] had his personality program converted to that of a Predacon, he started surreptitiously taking out the various Predacons. He swung a cargo crate into Waspinator, giving him a concussion. As a result, Waspy flew around in a daze, claiming to be the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] as well as the great [[Ben Yee|Wonko the Sane]]. This dementia was apparently reversed when Cheetor later got annoyed at his yattering and shot him down. One of Waspinator's stray shots subsequently hit the [[Transmuter (BW)|Transmuter]], causing it to explode. {{storylink|Dark Designs}}

Terrorsaur and Waspinator were hanging around outside the Predacon base during Megatron's experiment to create a [[Clone One|clone of Dinobot]]. {{storylink|Double Dinobot}} The pair attacked Cheetor when the young Maximal was protecting a stasis pod. Cheetor managed to lure Waspinator into flying over an energon geyser, frying his circuits. {{storylink|The Spark}} Perhaps a sign that they hadn't learned their lesson, Waspinator and Terrorsaur attacked Tigatron, only to be blasted by the defense system of a strange [[Brigadoon|flying island]]. Though injured, they were able to return to base to report the find. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 1}} Following another bout of repairs, the duo headed back for the island, only to run into Primal and [[Rattrap]], who were headed in the same direction. Eventually they did each the island...only for Blackarachnia to trick them into triggering the island's defenses again, resulting in them both being blasted. {{storylink|The Trigger, Part 2}}

Tigatron was ambushed on his way to another stasis pod by Waspinator, who managed to get a drop on the tiger. Waspinator's victory was short-lived, as [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] promptly shot his wings off, and he crashed to the ground. {{storylink|Spider's Game}} Waspinator and Terrorsaur stole the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> [[rectifier coil]], forcing the Maximals remain in their beast modes. Once the Maximals had gone feral and wandered off into the jungle, the Predacons mounted a hunting expedition. The Maximals were able to overcome their programming block, and during the subsequent fight, Rhinox swatted Waspinator out of the air with a ''tree''. {{storylink|Call of the Wild}}

After an apparently victorious battle, Waspinator and Scorponok returned to base. However, the Maximals they had attacked were not dead, merely blinded, and Waspinator was soon sent out again, teamed with Terrorsaur, to eliminate them. Unfortunately, even four blind Maximals were more than enough match for them, and both Predacons were sent packing. {{storylink|Dark Voyage}} Things continued to go badly for Waspinator, as during a violent storm, he was possessed by the immortal [[spark]] of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]. It took a major [[energon]] explosion to dislodge Starscream's immortal [[spark]] from Waspinator's body. It also had the after-effect of giving Waspinator a headache in his ''whole body''. {{storylink|Possession}}

Waspinator was part of a diversionary attack while Tarantulas tried out his new weapon, an [[energon discharge virus]]. Later on, the Predacons attempted to stop the Maximals getting the antidote and were blasted by Rhinox's enormous fart. {{storylink|The Low Road}} Waspinator teamed up with [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] and Terrorsaur for a fight, only to be roundly trounced by Tigatron. The trio were later able to defeat Dinobot, with Waspinator dealing the final blow, but Optimus Primal turned up and blew both him and Terrorsaur away with one shot. {{storylink|Law of the Jungle}}

Waspinator caught Tarantulas stealing a [[transwarp cell]] from the ''Darksyde'', but he was unable to stop the spider from leaving, as Tarantulas tossed him a bomb. Waspinator was soon in a multitude of separate pieces. {{storylink|Before the Storm}} Recovered and ready to take revenge on Tarantulas, he was instead sent by Megatron to secure a new [[Bio-Dome|alien site]]. Unfortunately, once he got there, he encountered Rattrap, who saw him off with a "robonoogie" and a kick to the unmentionables. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} He retired to the ''Darksyde'', where the Predacons monitored the situation with the [[Planet Buster]] weapon which had been revealed from the planet's second moon. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}}

After the Planet Buster was destroyed, the strange energies of a [[quantum surge]] saturated both ships. Waspinator lost control of his hoversled and was tipped into one of the restoration pools. Bathed in the regenerative fluids, he was prevented from becoming a [[Transmetal]]. He and his newly upgraded leader mounted an attack on the ''Axalon'', but once Waspinator faced a similarly upgraded Cheetor, he soon retreated. {{storylink|Aftermath}} Waspinator was the first to realize that the seemingly unknown planet on which they'd landed was, in fact, [[Earth]]. Dinobot had made the same realization and stole into the ''Darksyde'' to retrieve both of Megatron's disks. Waspinator proposed the two work together to steal the disks, and much to his surprise, Dinobot agreed...and threw him into the security shield. Waspinator was crushed into a cube by the disks' security contraption, leaving Dinobot free to steal the disks unharmed while Waspinator crawled away to the CR chamber using two fingers.

He got himself repaired in time to join Megatron's forces on the battlefield, where they outnumbered Dinobot, Cheetor and Rattrap. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}} He was teamed up with new recruit [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] to attack the ''Axalon'' by air. After asserting his authority over the [[Fuzor]], he was promptly knocked out of the air by Cheetor. After piercing Sentinel's defenses (and shooting Dinobot in the crotch), he joined the other Predacons as they prepared to finish off the Maximals for good...but was the first victim of a reborn Transmetal Optimus Primal. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

Waspinator and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] were tasked with constructing a new jamming tower. They constructed it successfully, but while Waspinator proudly reported their success to Megatron, Inferno playfully knocked the tower over on him. {{storylink|Tangled Web}} Another of Waspinator's rare victories came when he shot Silverbolt from behind, causing the Maximal to crash into Dinobot, effectively taking both out. While Inferno took off with Dinobot's prone form, [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] refused to help Waspy carry Silverbolt. A short time later, Rattrap mimicked Quickstrike's voice, tricking Waspinator into picking up a gas mine, and Waspinator's victory was no more. {{storylink|Maximal, No More}}

Waspinator and the rest of the Predacons installed shield generators around another alien site, but the [[Metal Hunter|alien construct]] which appeared zapped everyone, sending him into stasis lock. {{storylink|Other Visits (Part 1)}} Megatron took control of the construct and restored all of the Predacons to working order. Sent with Blackarachnia to claim another pod, Waspinator didn't last long before he was shot down by Cheetor and landed head first. {{storylink|Bad Spark}} He also took part in the attack on the valley where the [[protohuman]]s were living, but his contribution ended when Dinobot stuffed him head-first into [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]]'s main cannon and Rampage exploded. {{storylink|Code of Hero}}

As by Megatron's calculations, the [[transwarp wavefront]] from the Planet Buster explosion would soon be reaching [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], the Predacons mounted an attack on the ''Axalon''. The Maximals received reinforcements in the form of Predacon covert agent [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]], whose [[transwarp cruiser]] saw the Predacons off. Waspinator was subsequently given a new solo mission by Megatron, and he departed when the Maximals next attacked. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part 1)}} Just as he arrived at his [[Mount St. Hilary|destination]], Blackarachnia accidentally hit him with her hoversled, knocking him apart. Waspinator pulled himself together in time to aid Megatron's escape, after the Predacon leader badly damaged [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. He, Megatron and Inferno headed for the ''Axalon'', but Cheetor and Primal caught up with them, and Waspinator was downed by one shot from Cheetor. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}} After Inferno was blown to bits while attacking the Maximal base, Megatron sent Waspinator to salvage him. Waspinator was less than happy, complaining that no one ever salvaged ''him''. {{storylink|Deep Metal}} He was able to get the drop on Silverbolt when the Maximals were attempting to salvage [[Sentinel (BW)|Sentinel]], and he happily flew off with the module.

Sadly, he didn't get very far before Silverbolt and Rattrap caught up, blasting him out of the air so they could reclaim Sentinel. {{storylink|Changing of the Guard}} After Megatron developed [[cyber raptor]]s, Waspinator and Tarantulas were sent out with a group of them to attack Cheetor and Blackarachnia. The Maximals soon discovered that destroying the raptors' control components sent them wild, and Waspinator was stomped into the ground by an out-of-control dinosaur. {{storylink|Cutting Edge}} Another of Waspinator's increasingly few victories came when he managed to snatch a stasis pod from under the Maximals' noses. He acted as lab assistant as Megatron utilised the [[blank]] [[protoform]] contained in the pod, plus a [[transmetal driver]], to create a new [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]]. Unfortunately, even this victory was short-lived, as a short time later, the device Megatron was using exploded, and Waspinator was caught in the blast. After getting repaired, he made his way to where Megatron was interrogating [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]]...only to be blasted by his own trigger-happy leader. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}}

After Megatron discovered that Cheetor had upgraded himself into a [[Transmetal 2]], he sent Waspinator and Dinobot out to find and capture the kitty. The pair located him in a cave, but as Dinobot began to move in, Waspinator asserted his own leadership...and was shredded by Dinobot. Following another bout of repairs, Waspinator rejoined the hunt, and they eventually found Cheetor again. Waspinator was offhandedly slagged by the Maximal while trying to sneak up. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 2}}

Requiring someone organic to complete the [[disruptor cannon]], Megatron sent Waspinator and Inferno to pick up a protohuman. Waspinator was able to capture [[Una]], but she did quite a bit of damage to him on the flight back. On reaching the mountain hideout, Waspinator reported success and promptly collapsed into a collection of parts. At some point, he got repaired and was able to join in the pursuit of Rattrap and Una as they escaped. He was hit in the face by mud, sending him out of control, crashing into first Inferno, then Dinobot, and allowing the Maximals to escape. The three Predacons were called back to the mountain, where Megatron attempted to use the disruptor cannon, which promptly exploded. {{storylink|Go with the Flow}} Waspinator's next glorious mission was an attack on the Maximal base. Unfortunately for him, his expected backup wasn't there, and he was swatted by Optimus Primal. It had all been a ploy to draw Primal out so that Tarantulas could deliver a device to take control of the Maximal leader. {{storylink|Master Blaster}}

After the destruction of the ''Darksyde'' at [[Tigerhawk]]'s hands, Megatron sent Waspinator, [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]], and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] on an errand to find a new base, which was really nothing more than pointless busywork while Megatron went to do more important things. As the trio staked out an early [[human]] tribe that had taken up residence in a series of caves, Waspinator decided he'd finally had enough and ripped off his [[insignia|Predacon symbol]], declaring himself out of the Beast Wars.

He ''loved'' being a cool biker-bot as he now got respect and was finding [[Blackarachnia (BW)|chicks]] dig the new brooding bad boy schtick!

It turned out that Waspinator had a secret infatuation with Blackarachnia: influences from his inner spark caused Thrust to save her life several times. The [[Maximal]]s have set up a system to keep their orchard supplied with the [[organic goo]] provided by [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], and are holding a memorial service for [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]], unaware that they're being spied on by [[Tankor (BM)|Tankor]]. Tankor is also spying on [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], who asks [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] and [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]] what happened to the third of his [[Vehicon general]]s prior to his apparent death. The [[Diagnostic Drone]] informs Megatron about the discovery of the [[Key to Vector Sigma]], and Tankor's subsequent overloading while using it. The Drone suggests attaching copies of the Key to the drones and using them to purge Cybertron of all organic matter. When Megatron asks what it'll do to his beast mode, the Drone says it will be eliminated, and inadvertently begins to repeat Tankor's ramblings about how it will also drive Megatron mad, before covering his blunder. Although suspicious, Megatron orders the key be attached to [[Aero Drone|Aero]] and [[Motorcycle Drone]]s and tested on a Maximal, much to Tankor's annoyance.

[[Rattrap]] uses the ancient computers to run a planet-wide search for more organic goo, but is interrupted by [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], who needs the goo herself to try to turn Thrust back into [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]]. Rattrap reluctantly lets her take the sample.

Meanwhile, the Diagnostic Drone is taking Jetstorm and Thrust on a wild goose chase on Tankor's orders. Tankor intends to give Megatron a change of heart.

Rattrap has had some measure of success, turning up a catalyst program. He returns to the orchard, where the catalyst dramatically increases the plant-growth, and he's carried into the air by vines. [[Optimus Primal]], [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] and [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] turn up to rescue him from the clutches of the plantlife.

Blackarachnia locates the searching [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]] and attacks, seizing Thrust and carrying him off. The Aero Drones zap her web line with the keys they're carrying, and she's forced to detach, falling to the ground.

Optimus tells Rattrap to try his experiments on a small scale next time, but the other Maximals think he's wrong and that the fast-growing vines would be a great weapon against Megatron. Optimus goes to commune with the [[Oracle (BM)|Oracle]] while the others clear up.

Up in the city, Blackarachnia knocks out Jetstorm and the Diagnostic Drone before leading Thrust to a more secluded location where she traps him in a web. Dosed with goo, Thrust reverts to his old personality—[[Waspinator]]. Waspinator explains that he got bored on prehistoric [[Earth]] and flew back to Cybertron, which according to him, "took forever."<ref>Some depictions of this story may differ from Waspinator's account, namely video footage</ref> Blackarachnia is more than a little disappointed that he's not Silverbolt, but they're interrupted by Jetstorm, who knocks the container of goo from Blackarachnia's hand and is dosed with it. Jetstorm's old personality comes out, and this time it's Silverbolt.

Rattrap admits to Cheetor and Nightscream what the spider's up to. Nightscream volunteers to get Optimus, but Cheetor has other plans. Optimus, meanwhile, is having problems accessing the Oracle.

[[Image:BlackarachniaWaspinatorSilverbolt.jpg|left|200px|thumb|This is the best laser show EVER!!]] Silverbolt and Waspinator fight over Blackarachnia, but they're interrupted by the arrival of Aero and Motorcycle Drones, which neither Vehicon realises they can control. The power of the Keys eliminates the goo, reverting Thrust and Jetstorm to their normal selves, and they order the drones to close in. Fortunately the other three Maximals burst in riding a giant vine, and pick up Blackarachnia, whisking her away to safety.

Diagnostic Drone reports failure to Megatron, but he's been monitoring the situation anyway. The drones zap the huge vine with their keys, changing it to [[technomatter]]. The Maximals leap off before they're infected, but Rattrap announces they have to sever the vines to stop the infection spreading to the orchid and Cybertron's organic core. They race alongside the vine, chasing the infection until it reaches the orchid. Optimus spots the problem and frantically begins breaking vines. He succeeds, and rounds on Cheetor for disobeying orders, before informing him that he believes the Oracle has been tampered with.

Tankor, through the Diagnostic Drone, convinces Megatron to load the Key into all of the tank drones, and muses to himself that it's all thanks to the catalyst program he let Rattrap find.

The [[Maximal]]s, secure for the first time since they moved into [[Mount St. Hilary]], begin searching for the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], who have been vulnerable since [[Tigerhawk]] destroyed the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]]. [[Optimus Primal/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]] quotes a verse from the [[Covenant of Primus]], believing Tigerhawk's arrival to be divine prophecy.

Meanwhile, the Predacons are growing disaffected with [[Megatron (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Megatron]]. (Even [[Waspinator]] is mouthing off.) [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]], ever loyal to his "queen", declares that a new "colony" will resecure them. Megatron orders him to take Waspinator and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], while he, [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]], and [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] search the remains of [[Tarantulas's lair]]. Dinobot finds a hatch which leads to an underwater tunnel and a computer. Accessing the computer, Megatron becomes quite excited by what he discovers, and takes the rail car with Dinobot II, while Rampage follows in tank mode.

[[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]] spot Inferno, Waspinator, and Quickstrike leaving. Optimus orders them to fall back, but Depth Charge heads in. Optimus leaves with [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], and Tigerhawk to support them. As Primal arrives, Depth Charge finds the hatch—and a bomb. The explosion fails to kill any of the Maximals, but Silverbolt is damaged, and Blackarachnia and Cheetor escort his parts back to base.

At the protohumans' cave dwellings, Inferno declares that the caves will be their new "colony". He orders Quickstrike and Waspinator to engage, but Waspinator angrily refuses. Something has finally snapped in Waspy's central processor, and he declares that he is out of the Beast Wars. After a tirade against Megatron, the Predacons, life in general, and always being blown up, Waspinator tells them that they can kiss his stinger. Inferno and Quickstrike blast him, and proceed to attack the protohumans (who have become much tougher, having learned from the example of [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and the Maximals).

In the tunnels, Primal, Tigerhawk, and Depth Charge continue searching. After locating a data terminal, Primal accesses it and discovers what Tarantulas found and Megatron desires—the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]] and the vessel which [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] used to shoot down the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. Realizing the threat the Decepticon warship holds, Depth Charge heads out to locate it. Optimus sends out an emergency warning to the Maximals, and he and Tigerhawk head out to the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s location through the air.

Meanwhile, Megatron and Dinobot are able to board the ship, where they discover that Tarantulas had been a busy spider: not only did he repair the vessel, he added a [[transwarp]] cell and installed a Predacon control console. Best of all, in Megatron's optics, Tarantulas left behind a copy of the Covenant of Primus to boot: the tome from which he [[Megatron (myth)|took his name]]! Megatron and Dinobot begin powering up the vessel for an attack.

Reaching the sunken behemoth, Depth Charge informs Optimus of his discovery, and Optimus in turn authorizes Depth Charge to neutralize the ''Nemesis'' by any means necessary. Before Depth Charge can start, he is engaged by Rampage. The two enemies fight, and Depth Charge grabs an [[energon crystal]]. He drives it into Rampage's [[spark]], and the explosion destroys both Transformers and also causes Dinobot to cry out in pain. Optimus, though mourning Depth Charge's loss, is relieved to know the threat of the ''Nemesis'' has been dealt with.

That is, until the ''Nemesis'' rises from the ocean, fully operational. [[Nemesis Part 2|To be continued...]]

* Flying, flying, everywhere! Apparently Cheetor can now fly outright in his Transmetal 2 form's beast mode, rather than merely being restricted to his previous rocket-boosted running. Furthermore, Depth Charge has developed the ability to fly in both his regular stingray and robot modes, and Optimus (although shown hovering and such in robot mode beforehand) now demonstrates the capability to fly at high speeds in this form as well. This does rather raise the question of what point their respective flight modes actually serve anymore.
* At the beginning of the episode, when Rattrap holds up the Covenant of Primus, the Maximal variant of [[Cybertronix]] text can be seen. It reads "7 613 were cast out with him a cork one fork and a bowl of beans between them". This presumably follows the portion of the Covenant read by Primal, Datatrack 7.613: "And a mighty warrior came down from the sky, and a rainbow was upon his head, and his feet as pillars of fire. And the great dragon was cast out onto the earth, and his followers were cast out with him."
* The copy of the Covenent of Primus on the Nemesis has the Autobot symbol on the cover.
* This is clearly the only time Waspinator refers to himself as "I." This is also (regrettably) the last time Waspinator is slagged as a participant of the Beast Wars.
* Rattrap kisses Rhinox for the second time, much like he did in [[The Agenda (Part III)]]. He still didn't enjoy it.
*Since Transmetal 2 Megatron has his beast-mode head as a robot-mode arm as his original T-Rex body did, Megatron's... odd relationship with his hand has returned. In this two-parter, he can not only be seen petting the dragon-head, but at one point, he turns from a monitor he's watching, and his head-hand turns toward it, and actually moves back and forth as it observes the on-screen events.
*This is the first time we hear that Megatron's name is ''not'' a reference to [[Megatron (G1)|that other Megatron]].

===Animation and technical errors===
* When Dinobot squeezes the piece of Rampage's spark he possesses to pacify his "half-brother", his shoulder pads are missing. Also, the spark seems to float freely when it is released, in contrast to previous episodes where it was held in place by Dinobot's spark chamber.
* At the very beginning when Optimus is reciting, Cheetor is visible in the background in his normal Transmetal body, walking with Blackarachnia.
*Megatron must have had a tight fit climbing down the hatch that Dinobot found.
*Una must be a very strong protohuman to smash a sizable lump into Waspinator's skull.
*After saying that he quits, Waspinator rips the Predacon icon off his head, but when he tells Inferno and Quickstrike to kiss his stinger, it's still on.

===Continuity errors===
*The ''Beast Wars'' retelling of the Ark's crash and the Nemesis differs from any previous version. In the original cartoon, the Decepticons used the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s tractor beam to lock onto the Ark, and it was the Autobot/Decepticon fight inside the Ark that caused it to crash. (As elaborated in "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" and "[[Microbots]]".) In the [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Marvel comics]], the Decepticons boarded the ship, and Optimus ''deliberately'' crashed the Ark onto Earth, in "[[The Transformers (issue)|The Transformers]]", with the ''Nemesis'' being left abandoned. (The UK comics had [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] destroy it in "[[Target: 2006]]".) As ''Beast Wars'' is intentionally not a direct continuation of any specific continuity, instead seeking to treat all previous Generation 1 stories as if they were Arthurian legend, this would imply that those accounts are not canonical in this series. Alternatively, Optimus could just have the details wrong.
* The flashbacks to the battle between the Ark and the ''Nemesis'' recounted by Optimus Primal and Megatron neglect to mention that the Decepticons boarded the Ark before the crash. This was probably done either to simplify the retelling, increase the significance of the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s involvement, or both.
* The bomb Megatron left behind as a trap for the Maximals has some very curious properties. It has enough power to severely damage Silverbolt and creates a powerful energy wave that is felt by the approaching Cheetor and Tigerhawk, who are miles away (even disintegrating a butterfly in the process). However, despite all of the above, Optimus and Depth Charge suffer absolutely no ill effects from the bomb, despite being at extremely close range and having very little time (or even room, given the terrain) to run for cover. Depth Charge opened the hatch, but Silverbolt is the one who got damaged. Assuming that there was very little time to get away, Silverbolt could have jumped in front of Depth Charge to protect him (but why would he?), but it is still misleading going into the commercial break.
* How ''exactly'' did Megatron construct a bomb from scratch to begin with? With his base destroyed in the previous episode, it seems very unlikely that he would have the materials to create one on hand.

===Transformers references===
*Megatron refers to Tarantulas as [[Unicron]]'s spawn. While from the context this appears to have been a generic insult (equivalent to "bastard" or "son of a bitch"), convention-exclusive fiction like ''[[Primeval Dawn]]'' have depicted Tarantulas as a literal creation of Unicron.
*This is the first source to give the Decepticon vessel that attacked the Ark a name.
*Optimus Primal tells Depth Charge to stop Megatron "at any cost", which echoes Optimus Prime ("no matter the cost") in [[The Transformers: The Movie|the ''Transformers'' movie]] during the [[Battle of Autobot City|Decepticon siege of Autobot City]] on Earth.
*When [[Dinobot II]] cries out in pain after the death of Rampage, brief flashes of the original Dinobot's animation model can be seen as he looks upward. This possibly alludes to the plot of the unproduced episode "[[Dark Glass]]", where Rattrap uploads the original Dinobot's datatrax into the clone. *Inferno calls Rampage a drone at least once in this episode. It is unknown whether the writers knew that a drone is a male ant whose main purpose is to mate with the queen, who in this case would be Megatron.

*Silverbolt's remark "It's just a scratch" followed by the dismemberment of his arm could be a reference to the immortal line of the Black Knight in ''Monty Python and the Holy Grail''. Coincidentally, the Black Knight is able to survive fatal mutilation.
