I GOT YOUR ANSWER RIGHT HERE SNACK PACK cos in japan he is a ultimate god of destruction

IS their any REAL evidence for Dimensional/Time travel in RiD? I was under the impression that this was just a persistant but never substantieted net-legend. Both Megs page here and the Pred. page have references to travelling through time or dimensions. We have a sourse on that or does it need to be taken out?
:None I'm aware of. Although I kinda like the concept as a sort of "mysterious history," so I wrote something vague about it into Megatron's profile for the R2 RiD DVDs. How'd that go... uh... something like, "Whispered rumours say that Megatron and his Predacons may have come from another place... another time... but in the here and now, one thing is clear - all of Earth's energy will be his, and not even Optimus Prime will stand in his way!" - Chris McFeely 01:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Currently, I suspect that the "interdimensional" thing came from the story blurb in the first Car Robots catalog, but I have yet to get appropriately-sized scans for translation of same. When I get both, I'll post them up here, just to have it clear either way. --Monzo 15:00, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Um, since when has Megatron Megabolt ever been known as an upgrade to RiD Megatron? I mean, there's little canon beyond his toy bio, but if it was intended as such, wouldn't it have been written as "Megabolt Megatron" (in much the same manner as "Powerlinx Hot Shot"), rather than the current? If anything, the odd way of parsing the name almost makes it sound like Megatron is as much as a title (akin to Prime) as it is a name. Just curious, is all.. --Terrocon Blot 07:40, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
: Megatron Megabolt's bio is clearly written to be RiD Megatron, and the toy was even released in Robots in Disguise packaging. There's... very little doubt about this. His identity has even been confirmed by Andrew Frankel, who pushed the toy into store exclusive status after Beast Machines ended, if you really have to have additional confirmation. --ItsWalky 07:53, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
:: Okay, thanks. I had not known about the Frankel part. I thought someone was just connecting dots that weren't there. Like if someone were to suddenly shout "Banzai-tron is REALLY just Bludgeon!" because they're both martial artists who hang out with CRABS. But yes, thanks for clearing up the confusion.
:::Considering he's a Predacon who recently became a Decepticon (like in RiD), is focused on wanting to take over/conquer Earth (like in RiD), and transforms into a head which is called an "Emissary mode," referring to "Emissary," the name for Fort Max's head component in the RiD cartoon, AND is in Robots in Disguise packaging, I don't really see how the heck there's any confusion here to begin with. BW Megatron didn't want to do ANY of that stuff. All of those are direct, obvious connections to RiD Megatron. --ItsWalky 18:04, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
:::I put that info in the article. You can count on me to stear clear of "connecting dots that aren't there." I hate that kind of specuation. --Crockalley 12:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your comments, Steve-o. At your suggestion, I have eliminated the word "tagline" as well as the date links. Sorry about that by the way; I also started using Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki) and they used the calendar template for airdates of shows and birthdays of performers and crew and other miscellaneous things. But if the consensus has already been reached that it's not necessary here, I'm fine with that and will not use any date links. Thanks for your feedback. == Various and sundry ==

On your to-do list...
* Template:Shenanigans - Vanilla display-only messagebox that does just what it looks like, functional equivalent to a disputed-content notice template on wikia
* Template:Fact - [citationneeded] template, direct off wikipedia. (Actually, a bit simpler, wikipedia had an option for cats or something I stripped out.)
* Category:Cleanup by month - Cleanup tags by month. The first sub-section of this page (giving an at-a-glance summary) can be auto updated by a script - the same one used for this purpose on en.wikipedia.org with a few tweaks on the pattern-recognition to accommodate wikia's different grammar. The script logs in as me, so I put in some safeties to keep it from running more than once a day, and a kill-switch in case of malfunction. (I should probably give the code for that to Walky...) It's overkill for this wiki- but a nice extra.

(I'm contemplating whether the cleanup cat might more useful as a needs-improvement cat, since that's likely to receive use on this wiki...)

The one wrinkle likely to confuse you is the the use of: in the templates, a boolean parser function that lets the template do things only if certain variables are set. (And thus allows for a neater layout.)

Hope this is useful. -Derik 22:39, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Steve. The edit by HardStuff you reverted on the Main Page was actually a useful edit. He was adding an Interlanguage link which is a link that points to the same article on another language version of the same wiki. In this case, the link was pointing to the new Hungarian Transformers Wikia. The link appears in the left sidebar in the "other languages" section and is the easiest way for people to find this content in their own language. If you look at Wikipedia, you'll see this is used on many articles to link to the same topic in a different language. ==Blackarachnia and Tarantulas==
It's simple: Blackarachnia and Tarantulas shared a forced mental link for four episodes, one which went both ways according to Tangled Web and Other Visits. BA forced Tarantulas to break the link through suicide threat via energon; if you'll watch closely, their mental connection remained for a good half-minute or so after Tarantulas said the link was terminated (circumstantial, I know, but possible evidence that the energon interfered with the link temrination? I mean, they did note that BA's suicide plan would take out Tarantulas through the link, and he was feeling BA's pain of the energon radiation through it...). Also, BA retained many of Tarantulas' memories after the link was severed. The link was specifically stated to be psychic by Tarantulas, not technological (as evidenced by Megatron not detecting any transmissions between the spiders when the link was used). All that indicates that some traces of the link remained in BA's mind, and were upgraded by her reformatting into Transmetal 2. No offense, but I can't believe you watched BA's show of telekinesis in Master Blaster and didn't think "Hmm, mind link with Tarantulas?".66.233.183.59 18:27, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
:But what does telekinesis have to do with a mind-to-mind link? (Also, shouldn't this discussion all be on one page, specifically Talk:Blackarachnia, instead of being spread across several user talk page?) --KilMichaelMcC 18:40, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
::I think his point is they're both psychic powers, and maybe one caused the other.
::Valid a point as that is- it doesn't seem consistent with the overall 'rules' governing how Transformers acquire psychic powers. Mutation due to a bad, unusual or too-frequent reformatting seems to be the usual cause. So I'd blame the TM2 Driver or her reformatting moments after death for her telekinesis instead. -Derik 19:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Sticking a minheight on the message box just makes it look ghey.
To the best of my knowledge, no other movie-related item has done this. However, since all of that fiction is based around the movie, should we not use the name as it appears in the movie? I haven't changed Megatron's entry back, but there are other articles in which "All Spark" was used. Interrobang mentioned this on the Allspark's talk page, and I think it's something we need to resolve so we can be consistent about it in movie-related writing. --Sntint 15:52, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Short synopsis
The movie features Sam Witwicky, a plucky teenager who just wants a cool car, but gets more than he bargained for. The beater he and his father take home is actually Bumblebee, an alien robot from the planet Cybertron, who plants Sam down in the middle of a civil war between Bumblebee's benevolent Autobot comrades and the evil Decepticons who threaten the galaxy's peace. Both sides are after the All Spark, a mysterious artifact that landed on Earth ten thousand years ago. The approaching robot-against-robot battle is a coming-of-age moment for Sam, who learns the meaning of his family's motto, "No sacrifice, no victory."

The film begins with the history of Cybertron's destruction at the hands of Megatron, and his quest to obtain the All Spark. Megatron discovers the All Spark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in the late 19th century. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the coordinates to the All Spark's location. Sector 7, a secret organization of the United States government, discovers the All Spark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask the energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

In the present day, the rest of the Decepticons — Blackout, Scorponok, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Bonecrusher, and Devastator — have already landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles. Blackout and Scorponok attack a U.S. military base in Qatar in an effort to use the military database to discover the location of Megatron and the All Spark, but they do not succeed. A small group of survivors from the military base attack wander through the desert and are attacked by Scorponok. The Autonomous Robotic Life Form (shortened to "Autobot") known as Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, and looking for Sam Witwicky, the descendant of Captain Archibald Witwicky. As soon as he locates Sam, the two quickly begin to bond as Bumblebee helps Sam try and woo his crush, Mikaela Banes; Sam is unaware of the fact that Bumblebee is an alien, until he witnesses Bumblebee transform and send out a homing signal for the rest of the Autobots. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One and discovers that Sam possesses the map that will lead the Decepticons to the All Spark. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location.

Barricade confronts Sam, demanding Archibald's glasses. Bumblebee, who is following Sam, transforms and battles Barricade. Mikaela, who is also following Sam, is caught in the crossfire, and leaves with Sam and Bumblebee to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots — Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet — land on Earth and take on the forms of several Earth vehicles. Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. However, agents from Sector 7 arrive to take Sam and Mikaela into custody. Bumblebee is also apprehended, against the pleas of Sam who assures the agents - to no avail - that he means them no harm.

Frenzy secretly accompanies the group to the Hoover Dam, and releases Megatron from cryogenic stasis. Locating the All Spark, he sends out an alert to the rest of the Decepticons. Megatron escapes, and Sam convinces the Sector 7 agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the All Spark to Optimus Prime. The Decepticons chase the Autobots, who now possess the All Spark, into a neighboring city. An ensuing battle results in casualties for both sides, with Sam destroying Megatron and the All Spark when he rams it into Megatron's chest. The remains of the Decepticons are cast into the Laurentian Abyss. With no other home to go to - Cybertron having been destroyed by Megatron - the Autobots decide to stay on Earth, and Optimus sends out a signal across space in an effort to locate any surviving Autobots, while Sam and Mikaela begin a relationship. Starscream, one of the Decepticons that survived the battle, leaves Earth.
Quotes
"Before time began, there was the Cube. We know not where it comes from. Only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life; That was how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good, others for evil. And so began the war - a war that ravaged our planet until it was consumed by death, and the Cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We scattered across the galaxy, hoping to find it and rebuild our home, searching every star, every world. And just when all hope seemed lost, message of a new discovery drew us to an unknown planet called... Earth... but we were already too late."
"Sir, look outside: do you see that man sitting in the green car? That's my dad. Let me tell you a story about a dream, a boy's dream: A man promised to buy his son a car if I brought up three A's and two thousand dollars. I already have the two thousand and two A's. Your B minus? Poof! There goes the dream. Now ask yourself - what would Jesus do?"
Prequel material
Prior to the movie's release IDW Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled "Prime Directives", which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to Earth. A novel, Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday, is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience into things from Sam's POV, as he learns of not only the Transfomers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

It should be noted, however, that some dialogue in the film contradicts the prequel material, specifically pertaining to the years in which the frozen Megatron was moved from the Arctic to Hoover Dam.

Soundtrack
Reception
The movie set multiple records when it opened, including biggest opening week gross for a non-sequel ($155.4 million), biggest Tuesday release gross ($27.4 million), biggest July 4th gross ($29 million), and the biggest foreign film opening in mainland China ($3 million). The world digs giant robots, it seems.

Currently, two sequels are planned, with Shia LaBeouf and Peter Cullen signed for both. Michael Bay and the screenwriters have as yet not signed on to return for the sequels, but have mentioned they are very excited to do it.

Galvatron

:Galvatron is a Decepticon in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Galvatron is a force of nature. Born from the machinations of Unicron himself, Galvatron is the conflation of madness and power, given form. He is blind to all but, his lust for power, his whims and desires at the mercy of the moment. Not even his own subordinates are safe. Though he is not beyond the capacity for long-term goals, it is his unpredictability and his casual disregard for any and all life that strikes such horror in friend and foe alike.

Galvatron was once Megatron, but reborn from his death throes in a Faustian pact with Unicron. Despite retaining the memories, spark and consciousness of Megatron, the near-death experience and massive physical upgrade led to a degree of alteration in personality, something further affected by his now-questionable sanity.

Generation 1 cartoon
:Voice actors: Leonard Nimoy, Frank Welker (US); Seizō Katō (Japan)

In 2005, after being mortally wounded in battle with Optimus Prime, Megatron was left to float aimlessly through space. He was summoned by Unicron, who offered him a new body, a warship and new troops to command, so long as he destroyed the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Megatron reluctantly accepted and was upgraded into Galvatron, a more fearsome and powerful warrior.

Galvatron quickly retook command of the Decepticons after killing the traitorous Starscream in the middle of his coronation as the Decepticons' new leader. He then went to Earth and attacked Autobot City, full-force. Ultra Magnus lead him away from Earth and Galvatron chased him to the Planet of Junk, where he defeated Magnus and took the Matrix, intending to use it against Unicron.

Galvatron could not open the Matrix, however, and as punishment for his treachery, Unicron swallowed him whole. Inside Unicron's belly, he met up with Hot Rod. Though he initially suggested an alliance with the young Autobot against the mutual threat of his master, the Chaos Bringer mentally tortured Galvatron for his attempted treachery and then forced him to attack Hot Rod. Hot Rod eventually managed to wrest the Matrix away from Galvatron and open it, leading to his transformation into Rodimus Prime. Flush with new power, Rodimus hurled Galvatron's from inside Unicron and into deep space. But that was not the end of Galvatron.

In the year 2006 (or 2010, if you're Japanese), Cyclonus and Scourge set out to find their lost leader and return the Decepticons to glory. They found him sunk in a lava pit on the distant planet Thrull and managed to free him. However, the effects of the "plasma bath" irrevocably altered Galvatron's sanity chips, rendering him omnicidally insane. Upon regaining his freedom he thrashed Cyclonus and Scourge and sundered Thrull.

Galvatron led the Decepticons on many wacky adventures against the Autobots, though usually botching it in the end due to his craziness (he loved shooting his own troops). At one point, his derangement became so severe, the perpetually loyal Cyclonus was left little choice but to dupe Galvatron into taking therapy sessions (albeit, by force) on Torkulon, the therapy-planet. After nearly murdering a attendant during a word-association session, and somehow building a gun in a basket-weaving class, Galvatron was deemed incurable by conventional methods. The doctors attempted to use living extensions of the planet to give him a lobotomy (much to Cyclonus' disapproval), but Galvatron broke free and murdered the sentient organic core of the planet. After that, he razed the entire planet's civilization, leaving them so broken it would take centuries to rebuild.

However, despite his insanity, he teamed-up with the resurrected Optimus Prime to stop the Hate Plague. He wound-up becoming infected by the plague and attempted to kill an unconscious Optimus Prime with a spear. Optimus woke up just in the nick of time and opened the Matrix directly in Galvatron's face. The wisdom of the Matrix not only cured the Universe of the Hate Plague, but cured Galvatron of his madness, as well. Grateful, Galvatron sanely declared "There will be no war today, Optimus. You have earned Galvatron's respect" and called a brief truce.

Later, Galvatron called the truce off and led an assault on Autobot City, searching for the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. After obtaining it,he intended to use its the Plasma Energy to turn Cybertron into a mobile dreadnought. Teamed with the Transformer-Nebulan hybrid, Lord Zarak, they were eventually defeated and sent tumbling through space, ushering Cybertron into a new Golden Age. After regaining control, Galvatron vowed to collect energy from disparate corners of the galaxy and return to Cybertron, though Scorponok made it clear he questioned his leadership.

Scramble City (toys) OVA (Japan-only)
During a massive brawl between the Autobot and Decepticon combiners, Megatron took the upper-hand. To counter this, Optimus Prime ordered Metroplex to enter the fray. Metroplex rolled onto the scene and towered over his enemies, with City Commander Ultra Magnus in tow. Not to be outdone, Megatron ordered his own City Commander to enter battle. Beaming down from the sky on a ball of light, the silent and menacing Galvatron stormed the battle. Transforming into cannon mode, Galvatron fired a blast of energy at Ultra Magnus, who quickly transformed to robot mode and engaged his foe in hand-to-hand combat. As the fight seemed evenly matched, City Commander Galvatron's city finally arrived to tip the odds: Trypticon!

(Note: this OVA is not canon to anything in the known universe.)

Kiss Players (Japan-only)
At the end of the Unicron War of 2005, Rodimus Prime hurled Galvatron out of Unicron and into space. The Decepticon leader crash-landed on the planet Earth, obliterating the city of Tokyo. This catastrophic incident soured human-Transformer relations and led to the formation of the Earth Defense Command, a governmental organization created to drive Transformers from the face of the planet.

Galvatron's Unicron-twisted cells, dispersed by the collision, spread throughout Earth's atmosphere. Born from these cells were the Legion, an army of savage and vicious Transformers. Appearing all over the planet, the Legion quickly converged on the site of the impact, the crater upon which the headquarters of the E.D.C. had been constructed.

The Transformer manga (Japan-only)
Galvatron appeared regularly throughout the manga supplementing Transformers 2010 (Season 3), which acted as a supplement to the animated shows. Some of his devious schemes from the manga included creating a clone army of Megatrons, dubbed the Megatron Military, and forcing a human scientist named Dalton to create weapons of destruction for him. He even fought alongside his nemesis Rodimus Prime against Guiltor, a strange fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron that threatened to destroy both leaders.

Headmasters anime (Japan-only)
(The Headmasters Anime ignores the events of the 3-part "The Rebirth" story arc and picks up after "The Return of Optimus Prime")

In 2011, Galvatron reactivated the Decepticon Space Bridge on Cybertron and began a sneak-attack on the Autobots. He intended to hack into Vector Sigma, though was thwarted just in time. The battle did result in yet another death for Optimus Prime.

Later Scorponok, Galvatron's new mysterious assistant from Planet Master, went against Galvatron's orders and placed bombs all around Vector Sigma. Galvatron rushed to Vector Sigma but could not deactivate the bombs in time and was caught in the ensuing explosion, which was powerful enough to destroy Cybertron.

Galvatron was thought dead for some time, until he returned alive and well a few months later. He retook command of the Decepticons and enacted a new devious plot. Galvatron intended to transform Earth into his new Unicron-like body dubbed "Grand Galvatron", making him all-powerful. He told this news only to his most trusted warrior, Sixshot, and also delivered the news that he intended to sacrifice all the Decepticons for parts to build the body. Not a good idea, as Sixshot betrayed him to Scorponok and Galvatron was left all alone to Battle the Autobot Headmasters in the North Pole. Galvatron was defeated by the "Head-Formation of Friendship" and buried alive deep within an iceberg.

Galvatron would remain buried in the ice until he was resurrected by Dark Nova as the new and improved Super Megatron.

Headmasters manga
Marvel Comics continuity
(Events from the UK-only comics are in italics.)

There were multiple Galvatrons from various alternate futures who often time-jumped to give the Autobots trouble. There are between 2 and 5 different Galvatrons; the exact number remaining inconclusive.

Galvatron I
After being scolded by Unicron in 2006, Galvatron was ordered to attack Earth and destroy the Matrix. He ordered "Decepticons, to Earth!", but what he REALLY meant was Earth... 1986!

Time-jumping from the year 2006, and freeing himself from Unicron's control, Galvatron intended to create a device that would be powerful enough to destroy Unicron in 2006. Galvatron brought Cyclonus and Scourge with himself, and as an effect of time-travel, replaced three Autobots (Prowl, Ratchet, and Optimus Prime) in the time line. Galvatron began construction of a massive laser cannon which he would then hide on Earth and unleash on an unsuspecting Unicron when the time was right.

The Autobots and Decepticons weren't having none of that and briefly formed an alliance to stop the three Decepticons of the future. The plan wasn't going very well until Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup came back from the future to help. Present-day Ultra Magnus also arrived to help and heroically kept Galvatron occupied as the Autobots and Decepticons set-up a trap.

Galvatron mopped the floor with Ultra Magnus and returned to his laser cannon. He then ran into what he thought was Starscream (but, in fact, was an unconscious Skywarp in disguise), and in a fit of anger, blew him up. After a second he realized that if he destroyed Starscream in the past, how could he have destroyed him in the future? Figuring that he was in an alternate past, and thus, no action taken then would effect his future, Galvatron and his troops returned to their proper time. The Autobots and Decepticons subsequently destroyed the laser cannon and called off the truce.

Sometime later Galvatron returned from the future again following the destruction of Unicron. This time he planned to stay in the past. He intended to siphon the power of a volcano to become a God. Thanks to Ultra Magnus this plan was thwarted and the two of them became trapped under molten lava.

Galvatron eventually escaped and planned to take control of the Decepticons away from Shockwave. This prompted Shockwave to concoct a plan to use Megatron as a weapon against Galvatron.

Galvatron’s time traveling (along with that of the other Autobots and Decepticons) eventually caused a rift in time and space that threatened both the present and the future.

Shockwave unleashed a brainwashed Megatron on Galvatron. Ultimately Megatron and Galvatron forged an alliance after finding common ground and launched an assault against the combined forces of the present day Autobot and Decepticons, the future Autobots and Decepticons and the Wreckers and Mayhem Attack Squad.

By this stage Galvatron was consumed by madness and was able to overcome all resistance. He was only stopped when the time rift ripped him apart and destroyed him.

Galvatron II
See Galvatron II

Other versions of Galvatron
*In the Earthforce timeline, a Galvatron claiming to be no other Galvatron the Autobots had met before snuck into the Autobot crypt and implanted devices that would read the memories of various dead Autobots. He chose to read the memories of Prowl, Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Silverbolt and Ironhide. What he didn't know was that the device he placed in their bodies actually managed to revive them from the dead! Alive, but hopelessly out-matched, the Autobots concocted a plan to defeat Galvatron. They kept him busy in battle while Wheeljack placed a helmet on his head which would deactivate him and leave him imprisoned in a "sleep mode". Within this sleep mode, Galvatron was forced to forever relive his worst nightmare (being dismembered by Rodimus Prime) over and over and over again...

*In an alternate future, a geriatric Rodimus Prime recounted tales of his exploits to a curious youth from his death bed. Galvatron was seen, in Rodimus Prime's flashback, when Unicron attacked Cybertron in the year 2010 (of that timeline). There is no conclusive evidence on surrounding events, so it remains unknown if this is a previously seen Galvatron or yet another incarnation. It's not even known which timeline this took place in.

IDW Comics
:(Important Note: Uniquely, the IDWverse Galvatron is a completely, totally, honestly, (no kidding) entirely separate character from Megatron, and actually predates him.)

Galvatron was a crew member on the first Ark, launched during Cybertron's Golden Age. However, he and the ship were lost in an anomaly in the Benzuli Expanse. Galvatron then became the herald for whatever dark master existed in what he referred to as the Dark Universe.

Galvatron returned soon after Thunderwing's resurrection and defeat, appearing on Cybertron to seize the remains of Thunderwing. During this incursion he killed Leadfoot with his bare hands. Likely as a result of his time spent in the anomaly, Galvatron has incredible self-repair capabilities; for example, he recovered almost immediately after Sideswipe blew off part of his head.

Dreamwave Armada comic
An alternate version of Galvatron appears briefly as one of Unicron's heralds, along with Thunderwing, Bludgeon, Dirge, and Scourge. He is ultimately destroyed by Megatron with the power of the Dark Saber.

Controversy over identity
Some fans believe Galvatron is a psychologically distinct and discontinuous entity from Megatron, almost, or equally, as much as Scourge and Cyclonus who demonstrate no continuity of memory or personality to their former Decepticon selves. This remains a topic of heated debate in some circles, in spite of a fairly unambiguous canon.

Generation 1 cartoon
In the G1 animated continuity, Galvatron evidently still self-identifies as being the same person as Megatron, albeit with greater power and a new name. Although not making a point of revealing this former identity to his troops at large (perhaps to cast off the potential stigma of being a "defeated" leader), Galvatron makes his sense of self clear when Starscream asks "Megatron? Is that you?", to which he replies "Here's a hint" before obliterating him. Later in The Transformers: The Movie when Galvatron is poised to crush Hot Rod's neck, he boasts: "First Prime, then Ultra Magnus, and now you. It's a pity you Autobots die so easily, or I might have a sense of satisfaction." Again, Galvatron is obviously speaking with no sense of discontinuity of identity or personality as he refers to past and current acts as both Megatron and Galvatron without qualification or distinction.

While some might contrast this statement, however, with his earlier line, "I shall crush you, just as Megatron crushed Prime,", interpreting that such a statement implies a disconnect from his former life, this too can easily be explained by Galvatron's apparent reluctance to allow his troops know that he used to be Megatron. While Galvatron would have fully expected the knowledge imparted in the later statement to Hot Rod to die with the callow youth, the declaration to Ultra Magnus was made in public, with his troops (and, potentially, other Autobots in earshot) present.

During season three, however, Galvatron made little or no further references to his past life as Megatron, though this could be a side effect of lying in a pool of lava for several months and his increasing insanity. Upon meeting the resurrected Optimus Prime in The Return of Optimus Prime, Galvatron behaved as though simply picking up where he left off with his old nemesis from his Megatron days, as did Prime, saying that he knew him "all too well", indicating that the Autobot leader was capable of recognising his former adversary despite the change in name and appearance. Furthermore, in Five Faces of Darkness, Astrotrain states that Megatron and Galvatron are "the same guy," implying that during Galvatron's absence, the other Decepticons (or, at the very least, Astrotrain) figured out what was going on.

And yet despite all that, a memorial of Megatron can be seen prominantly in the Decepticon Crypt, implying that the Decepticons who built it considered Megatron to be dead. This could possibly be explained that the Decepticons built the marker before Galvatron returned and seized command, though their window of opportunity to build the thing was rather slim. Starscream's Ghost

Japanese fiction
Early advertisements for the Galvatron toy presented the character as an all-together separate being from Megatron, and in some cases, even being Megatron's underling. The second Scramble City OVA was a remake of the original animated version, albeit including the Galvatron toy for promotion. Galvatron appears to fight his nemesis, Ultra Magnus, as Megatron barks orders from the background. This is likely due to Takara wishing to advertise the toy as quickly as possible, without full knowledge of the character's history. To maintain Galvatron's mystique, he was given the function of "City Commander", with no indication that he was an upgraded Megatron. Continuing this trend of unintentional disassociation, very early promotional artwork featured in TV Magazine and Comics Bom Bom also presented Galvatron as a separate character.

However, this era was very short-lived. In all official Japanese fiction, including the manga and the Japanese-exclusive cartoons, Galvatron is locked in as an upgrade of Megatron.

A good example would be the Battlestars series. Upon being resurrected and further upgraded, Galvatron reverted to the name Megatron once more (as Super Megatron).

Marvel Comics
In the US and UK Marvel comics the various time-hopping Galvatrons all demonstrate an awareness of having previously been Megatron with no strong indicators of a break in psychological identification. Indeed, at one point, a Galvatron said outright, "Like Megatron? No - I AM Megatron!" The closest that these Galvatrons came to identity crisis were incidents in which a time-displaced Galvatron was confronted by Megatrons (or copies thereof) and did battle with his former self. Although in these instances Galvatron experiences trains of thought that suggest he sees Megatron as a separate being and/or the source of his madness that needs to be destroyed, it should be noted that these are not the musings of a calm, rational mind. In these instances Galvatron is in the grips of a psychotic episode, which he generally snaps out of by realising that he is indeed the same person.

A possible explanation for why (any version of) Galvatron retains psychological continuity with Megatron while his fellow Unicron-creations do not may be that Thundercracker et al were apparently already dead or in total stasis-lock at the time of their reformatting, and thus it is widely speculated that only their bodies were used to create Cyclonus and company. Whether this indicates that they retained their sparks and merely suffered total mind-wipes (either as the result of recent death or by Unicron's doing), or if Unicron actually infused their reformatted bodies with new life-forces is unknown. (On the other hand, none of the other Unicron-created Decepticons have faced their past selves or deeds the way Galvatron has.) Megatron, by comparison, was clearly alive and awake at the time of his reformatting and struck a bargain with Unicron for "a new body", a deal which implies that his mind would remain his own.

: Galvatron transforms into a Cybertronic treaded field artillery unit, with an alternate hand-held gun mode. Using a 9-volt battery, he has a light-up cannon in gun mode, light-up eyes in robot mode, and variable electronic warbly noises in any mode. Galvatron is notable in being one of the most well-articulated toys in the Generation 1 line, with ratcheting shoulders and hips as well as swivel elbows, mid-bicep and knees joints. He was also armed with a small black laser rifle.

: The original Galvatron toy was much later redecoed and re-released by Takara into a sort-of more show-like appearance, being primarily purple instead of gray. His face mold was also slightly retooled, and he was given new sound effects, including speech clips (in Japanese, naturally). He also came with a Matrix on a chain to be worn around his neck as in the movie. It also uses two AA batteries, rather than the previous 9-volt.

: This toy was later released as the e-Hobby-exclusive Galvatron II.

Merchandise
* Galvatron was part of the second "Act" of Takara's Super Collection Figure, a soft-plastic PVC of his cartoon model in both full-color and all-clear plastics, one each per case of twelve.

* The SCF Galvatron was later released as part of the Heroes of Cybertron series, cast entirely in clear-red plastic then painted over (giving it a light-piped-like glowing eye effect). He was only available in the third wave of the line.

Trivia
*A Galvatron Action Master was planned at one point, but apparently went no further than a concept sketch. It is only vaguely similar to Galvatron's normal appearance and may possibly have been a "powered up" Galvatron of some sort.

* A triple changer was proposed which would switch between a very awkward Galvatron, Megatron, and a Walther P-38 handgun with added futuristic silencer and laser sight. It is notable that the strange "Reverse Megatron" design has a mild resemblance to the also unproduced Galvatron Action Master, especially in the chest design.

*Galvatron's toy bio was apparently written with the intention of him being a new character who coexisted with Megatron: he has a rank of 9 and the function "City Commander," with no mention of him having once been Megatron. Given the omission of similar details from Rodimus Prime's bio, it is likely that this was done to avoid spoiling the surprise of Galvatron's origin in the movie.

*The Galvatron toy's gun mode's only fictional appearances were in the UK comics, which featured it as a shrunken, human-scaled weapon, and a form that he assumed merely so that he could easily be conveyed by other parties, but never wielded as a weapon.

*Galvatron's toy bio states that his cannon is a "laser which emits chemically-produced direct-current electricity". While this is a rather strange thing for a laser to do, it is a neat pun on his name. A galvanic cell, named after Luigi Galvani, is a certain type of chemical voltage source. Though Galvatron's toy's batteries are not galvanic cells, they do produce DC electricity chemically, making his toy one of the more fiction-accurate in the Generation 1 line.

*Bizarrely, Unicron would appear to have based Galvatron on a schoolboy's wristwatch.

*When asked about Galvatron's design in an interview, Floro Dery's reply was, "But about Galvatron, my inspiration for him are those 'stupid people'." ...Ooookay.

*Just as Megatron's fusion cannon was sometimes shown in commercials to have a handle, Galvatron's cannon had a trigger on at least one occasion (during The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2). Galvatron apparently doesn't need to use the trigger, however.

"With the All Spark gone, we cannot return life to our planet. And fate has yielded its reward, a new world to call... home. We live among its people now, hiding in plain sight. But watching over them in secret... waiting... protecting. I have witnessed their capacity for courage, and though we are worlds apart, like us, there's more to them than meets the eye. I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any surviving Autobots taking refuge among the stars: We are here... We are waiting."

Soundtrack
*12. "Transformers Theme" - Mute Math

Fiction

The Quintessons are a bizarre and ancient race of mechanoids, whose history and shadowy machinations are bound up with that of the Transformers. They prefer subtle manipulation, scheming, and advanced technology over brute force, but if those don't work they can fall back on the legion of deadly Sharkticons and Allicons at their command, and a fleet of battle-ready space ships as well.

They would celibrate their greatest victory with a quite chuckel.

Types of Quintessons
The Quintessons appear to be mostly (if not entirely) mechanical beings. They come in several distinct forms, some of which are identified by their place in the Quintesson's bizarre court system.

:(Note: The names given are, when possible, taken directly from the character model sheets.)

Judges
The most prominent and famous type of Quintesson, as well as the apparent "leaders" of the race, are the Judges. Consisting of an inverted, egg-shaped body, they float on a beam of energy and possess wiry tentacles for physical manipulation, but their most distinctive physical characteristics are their five rotating faces. Each face represents a different aspect of the Quintesson, though for four of the five faces, there are conflicting accounts as to what each represents.
The second names come from the DK Transformers The Ultimate Guide book published many many years later.)

In the original animated series, the Judges were all of the same size, and the only named member of their breed was Judge Deliberata. Conversely, in the Marvel Comics continuity, Judges vary in size, and include the massive Lord Kledji, and the smaller Sevax. It is worth noting that the order of the faces in the ring varies from Judge to Judge (if not from shot to shot, ahem).

This breed of Quintesson was first seen throwing the switch that dropped the unfortunate Arblus into the Sharkticon pit. They have also been called "Gatekeepers".

Named members of this breed include General Ghyrik, who led a Quintesson attack on Autobot City. Space Pirates!

This variety of Quintesson is the second most common type, often seen in positions of authority. They have also been called "Inquisitors". In court, they are the ones who ask for the Judges' verdicts, and occasionally let the defendants say something in their defense, for all it matters.

In ages long past, a cold and emotionless race of aliens called the Quintessons created 2 lines of sentient robots on a planet-sized factory known as Cybertron. One was a line of robots designed for domestic duties and labor (known as Autobots) and another line designed for military use (known as Decepticons). The Quintessons were exceptionally cruel to their creations, eventually leading to wide-spread rebellion, a rebellion started by the Autobot A3. Forced to flee the planet, the Quintessons eventually settled on the small, twisted planet of Quintessa, but fostered an undying hatred of all Transformers for millions of years.

The Quintessons first appeared in 2005 during the events of Transformers: The Movie, where they are shown to capture prisoners for trial and feeding to their army of Sharkticons. The mock trials held by the Quintesson Court seemed to have no purpose at all (except maybe for the Quintessons's amusement), as even when the Judge determined the plaintiff to be innocent, they were still immediately fed to the ravenous Sharkticons.

One (or possibly 5, depending on who you ask) years after the defeat of Unicron, the Quintessons re-appeared. They first sent a commando team of Sharkticons to abduct various Autobots (as well as Spike Witwicky, though that may have been unintentional). Upon capturing the 'bots, the Quintessons seemed more interesting in interrogating their prisoners then feeding them to the Sharkticons. However, they eventually did find the captured Transformers to be guilty of the crime of... being Transformers (Spike was guilty by association).

After Rodimus and the Aerialbots mounted a rescue for their captive friends, the Quintessons attempted to kill the would-be rescuers by destroying the entire planet of Quintessa. After this plan failed, the surviving Quintessons made an alliance with the newly revived Galvatron to attack Cybertron (in return for the fictional Decepticon Matrix of Leadership, which they made up because they needed to give him a reason not kill them).

The Quintessons betrayed Galvatron almost immediately after the battle had been won, toggling a switch which caused all Transformers the Galaxy over to literally freeze where they stood. Luckily, Spike stopped the Quintessons before they had much a chance to do anything. Despite their betrayal (and the fact that they almost killed him), Galvatron remained an ally (despite that he tried to kill them also).

Later plots by the Quintessons were no less nefarious. A rogue Quintesson scientist abducted several Transformers and a human for behavioral study, revived the deceased Optimus Prime in an attempt to lure all the Autobots into a trap (which nearly succeeded). Later still, the Quintessons attempted to rewrite history by preventing their loss of Cybertron (which nearly resulted in the very fabric of Time being destroyed).

During the events of The Return of Optimus Prime, a single Quintesson was captured by Sky Lynx to repair the body of Optimus Prime. It was mentioned that the Quintessons had gone into hiding in the furthest reaches of the galaxy and were never heard from again.

Marvel UK Comics
Like those creepy little fish that swarm behind sharks, snapping at stray scraps, the Quintessons were vile enforcers for Unicron, savagely hunting down and picking off those that attempted to escape his maw.

In 2008 Quintesson scientists realized that their planet, Quintesson (not Quintessa) was threatened with destruction by a time rift that was caused by Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge’s time traveling.

Desperate for their race to survive they launched a surprise attack on Autobot City, capturing it for themselves. Most of the Autobots were deactivated, except for Rodimus Prime who was outside the city at the time of the attack and Eject, Rewind, Ramhorn and Steeljaw who were hidden inside Blaster’s cassette compartment.

Using Arcee as bait the Quintessons captured the Creation Matrix from Rodimus and he reverted to Hot Rod. Out of options, Hot Rod activated the core of Autobot City, a giant Autobot called Metroplex, who transformed and drove the Quintessons off but caused massive damage to the city in the process.

The Quintessons fled, but were ordered by Lord Kledji to not return to Quintesson, but to roam the stars instead to rebuild their forces and seek revenge on the Transformers, since their home planet was doomed beyond hope. How that went for them is unknown, but as they'd managed to cheese off most of the known metallic species by that point, it probably didn't go too well.

The Quintessons conspired with Cryotek to retake the newly-reformatted Cybertron. He screwed them.
*When asked about the Quintesson design in an interview, Floro Dery stated they were based on a cylindrical toy he designed at some point.

Fiction

Generation 1
* Galvatron (Decepticon, 1986/1987)
: Japanese ID number: D-62

: Galvatron transforms into a Cybertronic treaded field artillery unit, with an alternate hand-held gun mode. Using a 9-volt battery, he has a light-up cannon in gun mode, light-up eyes in robot mode, and variable electronic warbly noises in any mode. Galvatron is notable in being one of the most well-articulated toys in the Generation 1 line, with ratcheting shoulders and hips as well as swivel elbows, mid-bicep and knees joints. He was also armed with a small black laser rifle.
: Japanese ID number: D-62-S

On the day that Sam's new car chased him around town, she was enjoying an evening of television and a little drinking with her husband when Sam came home three minutes past his curfew. Judy felt that he should be grounded for this, but Ron -- what a pushover -- let him off the hook. While the Autobots milled around in her back yard (and crushed her new water fountain), Sam and Mikaela snuck into Sam's room to look for Archibald Witwicky's glasses. Just a few minutes later Ratchet accidentally stumbled into the house's power lines, cutting the block's electricity, and fell down. Ron thought it was an earthquake and took cover under the dining room table. Amazed and still sitting on the couch, Judy looked over to him and asked, "How'd you get in there so fast?"

Just a moment later, they headed upstairs to Sam's room, from where noises and lights were originating. She begged Sam to open his locked door before Ron started counting. Just before Ron reached zero, Sam opened up. Judy asked him why he was all grimey and sweaty. He was acting strangely. She asked -- not judgementally, just trying to get to the bottom of things -- if he'd been masturbating. She seemed to be the only person not embarassed by this. Eventually, Mikaela -- who had been hiding -- stood up to try to explain things. Judy was delighted to realize that Sam had been hiding a girl in his room. She complimented Mikaela and apologized for making her sit through their "family discussion". Mikaela told Sam she thought his mother was very nice.

Sam and Mikaela then went down to get his backpack from the kitchen, but they were inturrupted when government agents swarmed the house, stepping all over her flower beds, and started asking questions. Judy bravely stood up to the men, threatening to kick their asses for touching her plants, but eventually the whole family was carted off.

Much later, after the Decepticons were defeated, Judy and Ron were interviewed for a newscast of some sort. They pish-poshed the idea that aliens had been tromping around the area, and expressed their faith that the government would let us know about that sort of thing if it were going on. After the interview, Judy awkwardly pointed out that their interviewer's head is a different shape in person than on TV.
