After Sentinel Prime was retrieved from Earth's Moon and reactivated, Megatron put into motion the plan that had been waiting in the wings for hundreds of years. With the human Sam Witwicky believing that the Decepticons wished to capture Sentinel and force him to use the control pillar to activate his space bridge, Crankcase, Hatchet and Crowbar were sent to pursue the Autobots. Crowbar closed in on Seymour Simmons' car, transformed, reached in and tossed the former Sector Seven agent behind him as he bounded ahead to knock over a highway sign for the other two to use as a ramp.

However, despite their best collective efforts to slow down the Autobots, Hatchet was quickly destroyed, and the remaining Dreads were soon confronted by the Autobot heavy-hitter, Ironhide, who stopped them in their tracks with a head-on collision. Faced with Ironhide's heavy weapons and Sideswipe, the Dreads seemingly capitulated by dropping their ranged weapons, but as soon as the Autobots followed suit, deployed spears to attack their enemies. Though his partner was initially successful in injuring Ironhide, Crankcase was destroyed when Ironhide forced Crowbar's spear through his head, slammed the Decepticon's body into an abandoned car, and kicked the wreckage into a nearby auto shop, which exploded. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)
*Battle in the Moonlight (Cyberverse multi-pack, 2011)

:A slight retool and redeco of the original Legion class figure, this time in light gray (with a slightly lighter gray for the unpaintable plastic pieces such as the wheels, thighs and various joints and connectors), and gold windows, lights, and robot mode detailing. He was sold in a Walmart-exclusive multi-pack with a redecoed Legion class Ratchet and Commander Class Optimus Prime w/ trailer.

:This version sports several minor remolds from the original. The calves/ankles/support struts (it's weird because of the digitigrade leg thing with the support struts in front) have been remolded so you cannot extend the struts past the intended point on the top of the foot. The original version of the mold didn't have these pieces stopped, so you could keep extending them past the point where they were supposed to meet (making the toy taller, at the expense of the feet not looking the way intended). With the legs only extending the intended length, he is now one of the shorter-to-average sized Legion figures in the line (Ignoring the truck hood hanging over his head). The joint of the hood/roof/backpack, where it connects to the back, has also had more plastic added so it cannot move more than a millimeter or two back away from the back of the head, just enough to get the chest hood chunks past it during transformation. The original version had no restrictions, and could be pushed back all the way until the bottom of the roof hit the back of the thighs. (This made it a little less obvious that he had a truck hood behind his head, at the expense of a big empty gap at his back.)
* Crankcase (MechTech Deluxe, 2011)
**Japanese ID number: DD04
**Accessories: MechTech Blaster/Blade Claw

: Part of the first wave of Dark of the Moon Deluxes, Crankcase transforms into a modified Chevrolet Suburban. As part of the MechTech series, he has a Blaster weapon that features a nasty grabby-claw action feature. He also has a pair of huge pincers above his robot-mode head that can also be flipped forward whilst in vehicle mode.

: His dreadlocks are supposed to be able to swivel, with the intent that they be swung behind his head to fit under his hood for vehicle mode, but in practice, this proved an either impossible or inadvisable prospect: on most, the gold paint applied has made them too thick to be rotated, running the risk of tearing the soft plastic. And even if you do get a Crankcase that doesn't have this problem, the tiny translucent plastic hinges to which the dreadlocks are connected won't last long. This means that they either end up stuffed inside his chest in vehicle mode (this is how the toy comes packaged), or are left dangling outside, with the former configuration forcing the dreadlocks to compete with everything else for space and putting the car under enough tension that it feels like it's about to spring apart.

: In an apparent running change, the otherwise long and pointed middle digit on each hand (as per the stock photo on the right) was shoddily cut off into a noticeably thick stump (compared to the more slender fingers remaining), often cut to a different length on each hand. It is unknown if this was done for safety reasons, an error during assembly, or maybe Hasbro decided that long, extended middle fingers just weren't a tasteful design choice for a children's toy. Later releases, however, featured retooled hands with a shorter middle finger similar to his others.

: The Japanese Dark Side Moon release features the remolded hands exclusively. It also comes packed with a character card and an accompanying transparent plastic card of his MechTech weapon for the MechTech Wars online game.
Notes
* Crankcase appears to be modeled after the eponymous alien hunter from the Predator series or technically the Yautja, possessing similar "dreadlocks", mandibles, fangs, and claws. Or in the CRANK case of the deluxe toy, his Mechtech weapon's mode, Wristblades.
* Crankcase has a nose ring and 2 pairs of earrings.
* An early working name for him was "Dreadwind".
* In early production, the Dreads were announced to be a pair of modified Chevrolet Suburbans. Photos of only two prop vehicles were even taken on-set. In the final movie, all three Dreads use identical Chevrolet Suburbans as their alternate modes, with individual robot modes between the three of them. For the toy line, Hasbro decided to give them individual alternate modes as well, which is why only Crankcase turns into a Suburban.
* A Dread Enforcer identical to Crankcase appears as a boss enemy in the Dark of the Moon video game, and is also playable in the game's online multiplayer mode. But his alternate mode is a police car similar to Crowbar's toy alternate mode rather than a Suburban. Maybe it is a fourth dread known as 'Crankbar' or 'Crowcase', or is it simply Crowbar with two Crankcase-like horns and a FULL name, that is 'Enforcer Crowbar'. Primus knows.....
* No, he is not Dave Fennoy.

Notes
* Crankcase appears to be modeled after the eponymous alien hunter from the Predator series, possessing similar "dreadlocks", mandibles, fangs, and claws.
Criminals. They are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and Air Raid has zero tolerance for them. He believes that respect for the law is a defining characteristic of sentient beings, separating them from non-living drones, and is disgusted by the Decepticons' disregard for the laws of their own home planet.

Air Raid has dedicated his life to tracking down the worst of them, spending centuries pursuing them all throughout the galaxy, and he intends to keep this up until every single one has been brought to justice.
Many years ago, Air Raid was a member of Cybertron's Science Division under Optimus. After a strange relic was uncovered and aliens from the Eshems Nebula attacked, Protector Megatron declared a military dictatorship, demanding the full cooperation of the entire population. Air Raid was one of those who heeded Optimus' plea for them to not abandon their society's ancient traditions and beliefs. Defiance issue 2 After Optimus Prime and his followers were declared traitors, civil war erupted across the planet. Air Raid joined Optimus Prime's Autobots and led aerial missions against the Decepticon fliers. Defiance issue 4

Years later, following the defeat of Megatron on Earth, Air Raid was part of a small Autobot unit led by Arcee that tracked Starscream, now the leader of the Decepticons, to his base on Mars. The Reign of Starscream issue 2 Air Raid took to the skies in the ensuing assault, but was shot down by Thundercracker. As a result of increased Decepticon activity, Stratosphere was tasked with transporting early MechTech samples from a NEST base in the Himalayas to Optimus Prime's location for safekeeping. Air Raid was one of the officers there, and intercepted a Decepticon intruder who had been surprised by a NEST trap. To his surprise, the intruder turned out to be the high-ranking Decepticon Starscream, who had been ordered to track down and destroy the MechTech.

Air Raid briefly engaged Starscream in the base proper along with a squad of Autobots and NEST helicopters, but when Starscream proved too powerful, he retreated to the runway where Stratosphere was preparing to lift off. Despite leading Starscream on a merry chase through the mountains, with NEST forces launching ambushes with anti-aircraft fire and missiles, Air Raid was unable to either disable or lose his pursuer. He did, however, manage to warn Stratosphere of Starscream's approach and board his comrade before the Decepticon arrived.

When Stratosphere's fighter escort and anti-aircraft gun proved unable to bring down Starscream, the massive Autobot unleashed the Aerialbots, made up of Air Raid, Breakaway and Silverbolt. Now ready for round two, Air Raid confidently assured Stratosphere that they would not fail.

While the Aerialbots put up a good effort, they fell one by one after a lengthy dogfight. When Air Raid was shot down, Starscream offered him a backhanded compliment, noting that, "You're fast, Air Raid, but not fast enough!" Dark of the Moon (Xbox 360/PS3)

: Part of the third wave of Target-exclusive Scouts, Air Raid is a redeco of the Energon Skyblast mold, transforming into a Cybertronic starfighter. He comes with multiple accessories that can attach to his jet mode for rocket-boosters and an under-slung cannon. In robot mode, these parts re-assemble to form a giant spear, although if preference desires, you can leave them separated and have the spear handle as a hand-held rifle, with the head split in half and clipped to his wrists. Fittingly enough, he has an Automorph gimmick on his chest and head, where rotating the chestplate into position would likewise rotate the head.

: This mold was also used to make his fellow movieverse Autobot Skyblast. It was also used as the basis for the non-transforming Attacktix Decepticon piece Thrust, as well as the CGI models for Backslash and pre-beast Terrorsaur in "Theft of the Golden Disk".

: In 2009, a rebranded version of this toy was released in the Walmart Black Friday exclusive Universe "War of the Waves" two-pack as a Unicron Trilogy-based character also named Air Raid.
He can also form a leg or arm to any Energon-series "Powerlinx Combiner" super robot, though his nominal placement is as the left leg to Superion. He comes with two double-barreled guns and a connector piece, which can form hand-held weapons as well as become a footplate or "hand" for his combined mode, plus a blue "super energon" Autobot-style energon star that fits over his spark crystal. His mold was retooled to round out the nosecone, and does not attach as tightly as previous uses of the mold, or as well as his pack-in teammates.
He transforms into approximation of an F-35 Lightning II/Joint Strike Fighter and has a non-firing cannon with rotating barrel on his right arm, activated by a gear-wheel embedded in his forearm. His Mech Alive gimmick is located in his upper arms; turning his forearms makes the machinery inside his biceps turn in time. Air Raid's MechTech Blaster weapon is a retool of Topspin's, replacing the claws with two halves of a barrel, which form the "Shot Cannon". Thus far, this toy is only available in Japan.
Unlike his game version, he is green in colour and transforms into an AWACS plane. His Mechtech weapon, an AWACS Dish that transforms into a gun fits on top of his plane mode. In robot mode, his wings are on top, standing vertically, resembling Voyager Class Stratosphere from the Revenge of the Fallen toy line.
Notes
*If this article seems haphazard, it's no coincidence. Four apparently different movie continuity jet Autobots named Air Raid were created over the years by multiple different parties. The Transformers Wiki has elected to assume they are all the same character for simplicity and hilarity. There's also a fifth, but TakaraTomy came to their senses and made him a different character.

* Much like many other Target-exclusive Scouts, Transformers Air Raid's only faction marking (aside from his spark crystal and molded but unpainted Autobot emblems) is a Sector Seven logo. How he could possibly hide in their motor pool is a mystery. Perhaps he used a scan of Ghost 1.

* Since the stock photos used on a toy's packaging usually depict hand-painted prototypes, the Target exclusive Scout Class Air Raid, despite being a redeco of a toy released several years earlier, is depicted using the old prototype design for Energon Skyblast on his packaging, featuring the original feet with human-like "toes" that were changed to more robotic feet for the production model of Skyblast.

* Air Raid's Dark of the Moon video game body is a reuse of the Seeker Warriors from the Revenge of the Fallen game.

* The bio for TakaraTomy's exclusive Air Raid redeco of Revenge Thrust parses his name as "Airlaid", despite the rest of the packaging rendering it correctly. <small>boom boom SEXY TIME</small>
