In the age before Cybertron's population was divided between the Autobots and Decepticons, Evac was a member of either the science leader Optimus' research division or the security forces assigned to protect them and keep the peace. After a devastating attack by aliens unknown from the [[Eshems Nebula]], Protector [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]] rallied his forces to war, demanding all Cybertronians to arms. An aft "cage" compartment can be opened to release a small rescue raft, which becomes a hand-held gun for robot mode. A button on the very end of his tail can be pressed in a geared action to rotate his rotor blades, but this feature really comes into play when the user attaches the Deluxe-class Scorponok figure to the bottom of Evac's helicopter mode via two pegs. A geared shaft linked to the rotor mechanism connects to a geared peg on Scorponok's back. Thus, pressing the button on Evac's tail not only rotates his blades, but also rotates Scorponok's pincers, though this gimmick is actually easier to activate by rotating the geared wheel on Scorponok's undercarriage.

: During transformation, Evac's [[Automorph Technology|Automorphing]] gimmick is activated when the user swings down his legs, which in turn flips the chest section his head is mounted upon up and into position. Another, less impressive Automorph is in his legs—If you pull his knees down, his shin armor pops out a bit. The figure's retooling involved a new head and new hands that can hold standard weapon pegs such as the raft which replaced the Scorponok miniature.

The top propeller can be spun using a gear-driven action by pressing the small button just under it. The tail rotor cannot move. In robot mode, the top rotor can be used as a spinning weapon, or split in half to sit on both arms.

:Evac's color layout appears to have been inspired by [[Generation 1 (franchise)|Generation 1]] [[Blades (G1)|Blades]], only with orange in place of Blades's traditional red. He even sports "C-72" [[tampograph]]ed on his side; the original Blades's [[Japanese ID number list|Japanese ID number]]. Presumably, his color and name were changed because there had already been three red-and-white Blades-themed 'copter redecoes going by that name in the previous year or so.
