When fellow Brit Simon Furman took over the writing for Transformers from 90-91, Baskerville made the transition with other Marvel UK artists who worked with Furman, such as Geoff Senior and frequent collaborator Andrew Wildman. The Early 90's found him inking on Marvel titles like GI Joe and Web of Spider-Man, as well as Epic Comics' Sleeze Brothers and DC's adaptation of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. By 1994, He was working on Spider-Man 2099 and Malibu Ultraverse's Night Man. By the late nineties he was again working for Marvel UK on the title Thomas and Friends, right through Marvel UK's transition to Panini Comics. In 2000AD he was inking for Egmont's 2000AD.

Panini would bring Baskerville full circle in 2002 when he collaborated with Wildman on the final issue of Transformers Armada

Currently, Baskerville does concept art for video grame development working on such licenses as Barbie and SpongeBob Squarepants, and lighter fare like Reservoir Dogs. He has also published a webcomic about a dominatrix detective in a bowler hat who beats up doormen with awesome high top fade haircuts.

OTFCC 2004 was the Official Transformers Collectors Club Convention in 2004, run by 3H Enterprises. It was held in the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, July 31 through August 1.

Merchandise
Exclusive merchandise included a Dreamwave Productions "20th Anniversary Mega-Litho" poster, a Palisade Toys 6" Ultra Magnus Statue, and a Devil's Due Publishing's GI Joe vs Transformers Volume II Preview Edition. (At least that's what my convention souvenir booklet thing says. Anyone actually see/remember this stuff?)

Convention-exclusive toys
:*Universe Megazarak - A purple, light blue, red, and black repaint of Armada Megatron with no electronics and one of the pins in the hinge of the capture-minicons-thing on his leg missing. Surprisingly, nobody seemed to complain too terribly much about the lack of electronics, which is odd.

:*Universe Sentinel Maximus - A blue and red repaint of Armada Overload.

Comics
The Convention Guide had a five page teaser story, Shell Game, featuring the exclusive toys. Written by Simon Furman, with art by Andrew Froedge, colors by Joe Givens, and letters by Simon Bowland, it was notable for Ultra Trion and his nifty dashing cape.

(Was there a Universe Comic, too?)

Events
The highlight of the weekend was DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. Originally billed as a Transformers-themed murder-mystery dinner complete with Nightbeat art, it became a standard murder-mystery dinner based around a bunch of people named after brands of candy. We had lots of fun filling out the forms and playing with the pencils there on the group W bench there; then Bob Budiansky showed up and everybody got lithographs signed by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker.

Panels included:
* G1 Creators Retrospective, with Budiansky, Furman, and Wildman.
* MSTF: The Musical
* Hasbro Development Team
* Dreamwave's Future Plans
* Devil's Due's Future Plans
* Furman, Hallit, Khanna, and Guidi discuss Wreckers and Universe comic.

Free copies of the then-current issue of Master Collector and small teaser posters for the Transformers movie were also distributed for free near the entrance to the dealer room. Both pre-registrants and walk-in attendees recieved these.

Guests
Hasbro employees
Along with standbys Aaron Archer and Eric Siebenaler of the design team, Forest Lee (writer of the biographical information for the large majority of the Cybertron line) was in attendance, as were a number of Hasbro marketing and administrative persons, such as Greg Lombardo.

Voice actors
BotCon regular, veteran voice actor, and all-around-crazy-guy Scott McNeil was once again in attendance at the convention. Fellow Beast Wars voice actors Richard Newman, Blu Mankuma and Pauline Newstone attended for their first BotCon.

Last, but most certainly not least, was Peter Cullen, voice of Optimus Prime both in the G1 Cartoon and the 2007 film.

Comics and art
Chris Ryall and Dan Taylor attended to represent IDW Comics. Simon Furman, writer of a vast portion of the Transformers mythos, was also present to discuss his past projects as well as his current projects with IDW.

A majority of the artists who were currently working on Transformers art in an official capacity, including Don Figueroa, Alex Milne, Dan Khanna, Jake Isenberg, Drew Eiden, and Marcelo Matere were in attendance as well.

Events
FunPub scheduled a large number of events to take place over the course of the convention to keep attendees entertained and informed.

Wednesday and Thursday
Wednesday and Thursday were the slowest days of the convention, primarily for the benefit of preregistrants. However, there were a few panels on those days, including the classic "MSTF" spoofing of Transformers episodes on Thursday night and a Transformer customization seminar on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. (The customization panel cost extra, but the attendees got a badly-painted Scrapmetal out of it with the option of giving it the Cobybot head.)

Friday
Friday was the first day the convention began in earnest, though it was open to preregistrants only.

Major events included...

*A voice actor panel with Blu Mankuma, Scott McNeil, Richard Newman, and Pauline Newstone.

*A panel with the Hasbro design team, where the design process was explained and the shelved design sketches of Classics Cosmos (G1) were shown.

*A panel with Simon Furman.

*Autograph sessions with the Beast Wars voice actors.

*A midnight screening of the then-newly remastered Sony 20th Anniversary edition of The Transformers: The Movie.

*The first round of "Faction Feud," a trivia competition whose rules bore no resemblance to Family Feud whatsoever.

In addition, the dealer room was open from 2PM to 5PM.

Saturday
Saturday was the first day in which walk-in attendees were allowed.

Major events included...

*A panel on cartoon creation with David McDermott and Aaron Archer.

*A panel on the Collectors' Club newsletter hosted by Pete Sinclair.

*Autograph sessions with Peter Cullen, as well as the Beast Wars actors.

*The Hasbro New Product Unveiling, the major panel of the year. Attendance was standing-room-only for walk-ins. The majority of the Classics line was shown, as well as a preview of the special features for the Sony TFTM DVD, and a "sizzle reel" for the 2007 Transformers movie. It was during this panel that the design team professed that they were huge fans of the Cincinnati Bengals.

*Another Voice Actor panel.

*The first round of "Faction Feud," a trivia competition whose rules bore no resemblance to Family Feud whatsoever.
In addition, the dealer room was open from 2PM to 5PM.

Saturday
The majority of the Classics line was shown, as well as a preview of the special features for the Sony TFTM DVD, and a "sizzle reel" for the 2007 Transformers movie. It was during this panel that the design team professed that they were huge fans of the Cincinnati Bengals.

*Another Voice Actor panel.

*A roundtable on the Transformers Club run by Brian Savage.

*A Q&A panel featuring Peter Cullen.

the Brawl from the 2007 movie

:Brawl is a Decepticon from the live-action movie continuity family. He is sometimes referred to as Devastator.

To say Brawl is a warrior is like calling Cybertron a hunk of metal. Brawl does not just enjoy fighting, he is consumed by it. Tearing Autobots apart is embedded into his very core, and every fiber-optic cable of his being is obsessed with wild, unyielding combat. The only thing he enjoys, or even cares about, is the fury of battle. And he loves a good explosion. Particularly if it's one he created, and if it was an Autobot that is exploding.

:Alternate name: Devastator

Fiction
Ghosts of Yesterday novel
Brawl was oddly absent from events surrounding the Ghost 1 discovery. Whether he was aboard the Nemesis and otherwise indisposed or joined up with Starscream at a later date is unknown.

Transformers The Game (console)
Autobot campaign
Brawl arrived in Mission City shortly after Jazz took down Starscream, Blackout and a pair of Dreadwings single-handedly. The Autobot's victory was short-lived... and so was the Autobot, as Brawl punctured Jazz's chest with his claw, extinguishing his spark. Ironhide arrived just in time to witness the killing, and fought through a horde of Decepticon units to destroy Brawl.

Decepticon campaign
Brawl, Bonecrusher and Starscream were hiding out in a human military installation in the desert when they received word that Frenzy and Barricade had discovered the location of the AllSpark. When the three Decepticons mobilized, the two ground-based machines were assaulted by tanks designed to fire holding beams of electrical energy, forcing Starscream to back-and-forth babysit the two Decepticons as they tried to escape.

Brawl later stood by Megatron's side in Washington D.C. after they had retrieved the AllSpark from the destroyed Autobots and had decimated pretty much everything in their path.

:(Note: Brawl was not a playable character in the console versions of the game.)

Transformers (2007) film
spoiler

Brawl (here called "Devastator") was lying in wait at a military depot when Starscream contacted the Decepticon infiltration team, informing them that the All Spark had been found and they were to move out. Devastator acknowledged that he was in transit and rolled out of the depot. He met up with Barricade and Bonecrusher and hit the highway, though Devastator separated from the group before Barricade and Bonecrusher got on the freeway and met up with Autobot/human convoy.

Arriving at Mission City in the aftermath of Starscream's opening attack on the Autobots and their human allies, Devastator fired shells from his main gun, narrowly missing several targets before running over vehicles abandoned by human bystanders. As the American soldiers fanned out in search of cover, Devastator transformed into robot mode to get up close and personal. With the soldiers firing sabot-rounds from their grenade launchers, the Autobot Jazz jumped on top of Devastator where the Decepticon couldn't reach and destroyed his left side rocket launcher pod.

Damaged, but not down, Devastator continued to shrug off the sabot rounds from the humans as he fired wildly at all opposition. As Ironhide sped towards him in vehicle mode, Devastator fired two rockets from his remaining launcher, missing the heavily armed Autobot as he somersaulted over the missiles. Ratchet followed up by using his buzzsaw to slice off Devastator's left arm. The humans then fired a volley of sabot rounds, which stunned Devastator. The only thing that saved him was the human's retreat at the arrival of Megatron. Eventually, Ironhide and Ratchet disengaged from the battle as they left to protect Sam, who was escaping with the All Spark, while Jazz took on Megatron. Now with fewer targets to deal with, Devastator sprayed heavily machine gun fire at the remaining humans, whose leader remarked that the battle was not going well.

Devastator continued to pin down the soldiers until the damaged Autobot Bumblebee suddenly attacked while on the back of of a tow truck driven by Sam's female companion. With Bumblebee's plasma cannon being the deciding factor, the human soldiers rallied and fired more sabots, piercing Devastator's armor until a final shot from Bumblebee struck Devastator's spark and killed him.

Devastator's body was dumped into the deepest part of the ocean along with his fellow Decepticons, in the hopes the intense pressure and cold will destroy whatever remained. Transformers (2007)
*Decepticon Brawl (Deluxe, 2007)
:Japanese ID number: MD-03

: Deluxe-class Brawl transforms into a heavily modified fictional tank based upon an M1A1 Abrams, fitted with angular reflective armor, a mine plow and external spare fuel canisters. Mounted upon the turret is a smaller sub-turret housing two anti-aircraft cannons and rocket launchers. The spring-loaded main cannon fires a translucent red projectile.

: In robot mode, Brawl faithfully replicates his movie design, with the only major divergence being that his main gun does not split into smaller guns. He is reasonably articulated, with ball and swivel joints in his arms and legs. Thanks to Automorphing, pushing down on the front of his tank during transformation raises the front of the treads and his head up into position for his robot mode, and vice versa for the tank mode. He is armed with his spring-loaded main gun on his right arm and a flip-out blade on his left.

: There is a design flaw in the way Brawl's arms attach to his torso - the rhombic peg and socket system used does not provide a tight enough fit, and thus the arms have a tendency to detach at the shoulder when moved. There have also been some reports of the gears for the treads crack easily and no longer function properly. At least you can Reenact that part in the movie Where Rachet Saws off Brawl's arm.
*Brawl (2007)
:Card number: 17

: Brawl is a 41-point "Rare" piece in the 3D Battle-Card Game. Constructed of punch-out pieces from plastic cards, he can be assembled into his tank mode, or a sort of representation of his robot mode. Oddly enough, he does not actually have his movie-model head; rather, he uses a recolored version of Barricade's noggin slapped on the Brawl body.

: He uses the same construction as the Wreckage card.

Trivia
* During the movie, Brawl is identified in subtitles as 'Devastator', an early working name for the character. When queried, director Michael Bay said he had always preferred Devastator and that it is not a mistake. Writer Roberto Orci felt that it was a mistake that would hopefully be fixed before the full official release of the film, this did not happen. At Botcon 2007 Hasbro representatives said they consider "Devastator" a "continuity glitch" and as far as they are concerned the character's name is Brawl. Despite rumors to the contrary, he is not credited in the film under either name.

* According to Picture Vehicle Coordinator Steve Mann, the filming prop of Brawl was a redress of a tank prop made for another movie . Specifically, it was the 'stealth tank' seen in the film XXX: State of the Union.

*The name 'Brawl' was previously a working name for the character now called Barricade.

* A wallpaper on Hasbro's Transformers web site labels Brawl as "Demolisher", one of several working names for this character.

*Brawl, under the name Devastator appears in the second issue of the Titan's published Transformers magazine/comic, where he takes over from Megatron in fighting Ratchet and Ironhide.

*Jazz' move of racing-transforming-boarding Brawl is not completely unlike the scene in The Transformers: The Movie where Kup does the same thing with Blitzwing.

Fred is quite possibly one of the most important human characters in the entire Transformers mythos. He f***in' owns you. Admit it.

Fred was the best (and possibly only) friend of Billy, Lincoln Middle School's resident would-be-bully. Fred was rather unmotivated by the prospect of bullying Rad and Carlos, preferring to occupy his time with eating assorted snack foods and mentioning that he was still hungry.

Later on, he and Billy became good friends with their former would-be victims, participating on many adventures with them due the fact Fred is awesome and indispensible to the Autobots. Plus, somebody had to bring all the food along.

One day, Rad and Carlos went out investigating the caves under the local observatory, so Billy and Fred followed, intent on discovering what the two were up to, as well as wanting to bully them for no apparent reason.

Unfortunately for Fred, Rad's activation of the caverns caused an earthquake that almost buried them alive (Fred, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it). When he and Fred finally crawled out of the rubble, they were greeted by the sight of gigantic, body-shaped depressions and footprints in the valley floor. First Encounter

Later, Billy and Fred managed to discover the truth about Rad and Carlos' toy robots, and were forced by Hot Shot to promise to keep the existance of the Transformers a secret, after saving their lives. Carnival

While attemping to once again harrass Rad and Carlos, Billy and Fred were captured by the Decepticons for nefarious purposes and imprisoned in one of those conviently abandoned ghost towns that seem to populate Earth in most Transformers continuities. While imprisoned, Fred offered the Decepticon Mini-Con Leader-1 some potato chips, which appeared to earn him the Mini-Con's friendship. When the Autobot rescue attempt went arwry, Fred was pivotal in securing their freedom from the Decepticons and their nefarious purposes because Leader-1 refused to do anything to harm the humans. Afterwards, the pair joined the Autobot team. Confrontation
Trivia
* Despite Fred's love of food, he has been known to offer potato chips to Mini-Cons, even if said Mini-Cons have no means of ingesting the offered food. Because that's the kind of great guy Fred is.

* According to the Micron Legend Yearbook 2003, the producers of the Armada cartoon kept meaning to write Billy and Fred out of the series, but ultimately never got around to it. Their staying through to the end of the show was, thus, wholly unintentional.

* When asked about their status post-Armada, Aaron Archer joked that Billy and Fred now spend their time partying in the south of France. Go Fred!
(Fred is beyond the need for mortal appreciation.)
