:Powerglide is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Powerglide, unlike most Autobots, can fly under his own power, and it goes straight to his pointy head. Give him any excuse and awaa-aa-aay he goes, dashing off into the stratosphere at 500 mph -- but not in a straight line. No, Powerglide is an aerial acrobat, able to perform stunts other Transformer planes would never dream of. Barrel rolls, tail stands, death spirals, screaming 3200-mph powerdives: none of these are too tough for this Autobot barnstormer, and if he has an audience, be they friendly or enemy, he is guaranteed to put on the air show of their lives.

Yet this seeming frivolity has saved his life countless times in combat. Powerglide is lightly armed with small concussion bombs and a nose-mounted thermal beam, and the former is practically useless in the air. Furthermore, his speed and power, impressive as they are, are vastly outclassed by most aerial Decepticons. Like the flying aces of World War I, Powerglide resorts to dogfighting maneuvers, using his flying skills to confuse and evade the enemy. This tactic works very well.

In fact, Powerglide's skill only aggravates his greatest weakness. He is good, and he knows it, and he misses no chance to show it. If this means he will seek out ever tougher foes to prove his mettle -- then he'll do that, even if it kills him. Some day, it might.
Powerglide was a brash barnstormer with a penchant for spouting gung-ho sayings like "And awaaa-aaa-aay we go!". For a time, he was somewhat smitten with the fleshling female Astoria Carlton-Ritz. They went on a date or two, but (fortunately) the only lasting result was a series of flashing lights under his chestplate in the form of a stylized heart. What purpose this served (other than being disturbing) is not immediately clear.

Marvel Comics continuity
Powerglide was a member of Perceptor's resistance cell on Cybertron, until their great raid on Darkmount, during which Powerglide was accidentally transported to Earth with his comrades. While on Cybertron, he transformed into a triangular aircraft with hovering ability and a hoisting winch, with enough lifting power to just barely pick up his fellow Autobot Blaster. Once on Earth, he changed this mode for a ground-attack jet similar in appearance to a Republic A10.

Bumblebee is one of the smallest and weakest Autobots. While this does allow him to do his job better than most Autobots could manage, he is self-conscious about his size. He looks up (so to speak) to the other Autobots, but what he doesn't realize is that they look up to him. He may be small, but he's brave, and he's one of the most likable Autobots around. Bumblebee already has the respect he craves.

As Goldbug, his rebuilt and "matured" form, Bumblebee retains most of his earlier strengths and weaknesses, but without his crippling need for approval. (This is true of some "matured" versions of Bumblebee without new names or bodies, as well, but is quite markedly associated with the change to Goldbug).
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Four million years ago, Optimus Prime led a crew of Autobots including Bumblebee aboard the Ark to clear a path through an asteroid belt for Cybertron to pass through. Once their objective was completed, they were attacked by Decepticons and both their ships crashed in a volcanic mountain on a primitive planet known as Earth. In 1984, the volcano (Mount Saint Hilary) erupted, awakening their ship, which rebuilt them. Bumblebee was reconfigured to transform into a yellow Volkswagen Beetle.

Prowl led a mission into a human city to investigate their new world. Bumblebee, anxious to be the first to meet the planet's inhabitants, rear-ended a car full of teenagers at a drive-in movie theatre. Before he could introduce himself, he was under attack by Decepticons and damaged badly. One of the teenagers, Buster Witwicky, brought the car back to his father's autorepair shop. Bumblebee weakly pleaded to them to fix him, for he was dying. His father, Sparkplug Witwicky, fixed Bumblebee and offered to help the Autobots convert their native fuel resources into a form that Transformers could use. Bumblebee took Buster with him back towards the Ark to relay this message.

After a seemingly final battle with the Decepticons, the long-lost Decepticon Shockwave arrived and reversed the Autobots' victory with a single blast. Bumblebee and the rest of the Autobots were kept captive aboard the Ark until Ratchet managed to free the Ark from Decepticon control and repair them. However, Buster had been entrusted with safeguarding the Creation Matrix, which the Decepticons discovered, so Bumblebee and Bluestreak were sent to protect him. Buster was attacked by the newly-built but lifeless Jetfire. Bumblebee and Bluestreak did their best to defend Buster, but it was Buster's use of the powers of the Creation Matrix which saved them all, disassembling Jetfire in mid-air. Bumblebee removed Jetfire's brain so Buster could remote-control the body with his mind.

After the Creation Matrix was returned to a restored Optimus Prime, Bumblebee was charged with giving four new recruits (Hoist, Skids, Smokescreen, and Tracks) a tour of the planet. Bumblebee decided a Brick Springhorn concert would be a good destination, but the Decepticons had sabotaged the event to harvest energon. Bumblebee disobeyed orders and led the four into battle, saving the concert. When Robot-Master appeared on television and claimed to control the Transformers, it was Bumblebee's job to ask their human business parter G.B. Blackrock what the deal was. Robot-Master broadcast next in a coal mine next to a de-energized Megatron, but Bumblebee and several other Autobots were pushed away by overwhelming Earth military forces.

This event caused Bumblebee to question his usefulness to the Autobots, and he abandoned them without a word. The Decepticons, however, saw much use for him and attempted to apprehend him. Hiding in a used car lot, he was stolen by two humans, who he adopted for a while. The Decepticons did not relent, and Bumblebee was ultimately rescued by the rest of the Autobots, an act which reminded him how valuable he was to them.

Due to conflicting circumstances, Bumblebee was damaged and rebuilt into a stronger but similar form, Goldbug. Goldbug and Blaster were ordered by the new Autobot leader Grimlock to track down the Mechanic, who had stolen Autobot technology from the Ark. Grimlock was a terrible leader and had no regard for human life, so both Goldbug and Blaster exiled themselves from his command. Grimlock was furious, and sent the Protectobots to bring them in. Goldbug and Blaster found themselves in the desert of the American southwest and, thanks to a run-in with the Decepticon Triple Changers, were infested with the disease known as Scraplets. Goldbug and his human friend Charlie Fong left to get help and possibly a cure, but Blaster believed Goldbug had abandoned him to die. Near death himself, Goldbug and Charlie arrived at a gas station, where they met up with the Throttlebots, sent from Cybertron by Ratbat and armed with acid to contain the disease. Goldbug narrowly escaped extermination when it as discovered that the cure for Scraplets was none other than water. Goldbug called industrialist G.B. Blackrock (on a pay phone), and Blackrock trucked in tanks of water himself. Blaster was cured and his trust in Goldbug was restored.

Goldbug, Blaster, and the Throttlebots found refuge in a used car lot owned by Big Steve. However, they were all in bad need of fuel. They attempted a deal with Big Steve, but he doublecrossed them, filling them up with soda pop instead of gasoline. It was then that the Protectobots caught up with them, followed by the Combaticons. During the ensuing battle, the immobilized Throttlebots (including Goldbug) were carted away by RAAT.

Conflicting Goldbug origins
In G.I. Joe and the Transformers, Bumblebee is destroyed by G.I. Joe due to a misunderstanding. They later rebuild him as Goldbug with help from Ratchet. However, Marvel UK did not initially print the crossover, so an alternate origin for Goldbug was conceived. In the pages of the UK comic, Bumblebee was destroyed by a time-traveling Death's Head and repaired by a time-traveling Wreck-Gar. (The Marvel Joe/TF crossover was published in the UK towards the end of the series.) The conflicting origins for Goldbug is the single largest difference between the American and British Marvel Transformers comics; most everything else kinda sorta meshes together, if you squint.

Animated continuity
:Voice Actor: Dan Gilvezan (US), Yoku Shioya (Japan)

After pilfering energy conductors with Wheeljack, the little, yellow different Autobot was on the Ark which landed on Earth 4 million years ago, went sleepy, woke up in 1984 as a Volkswagen Beetle. Bumblebee was part of the team of Autobots sent to stop Megatron and the Decepticons from overpowering Sherman Dam. Bumblebee helped Ironhide carve out a new riverbed for the raging waters, saving a nearby neighborhood from being flooded. Such acts was one of the earliest that helped endear the Autobots to the humans.

During the Decepticon development of their Space Bridge program, Megatron captured Bumblebee and altered a bank of his memory circuits to lure the Autobots into a trap. Bumblebee recovered in time to alert the Autobots to the true location of the Space Bridge.

In 2005, he and Spike Witwicky were on Moonbase 1. Unicron ate it. Luckily, Unicron takes some time to digest things, and the two (as well as Jazz and Cliffjumper) were spared an acid-bath in Unicron's guts by the timely arrival of Spike's son Daniel.

When the body of Optimus Prime was retrieved by Gregory Swafford and Jessica Morgan, Rodimus Prime led a team that included Bumblebee to investigate. However, Bumblebee and his teammates were attacked by a Hate Plague-infested Superion and heavily damaged. After Optimus Prime was rebuilt by the Quintessons, so too was Bumblebee into a more powerful but similar form. Bumblebee remarked that he now looked like a "gold bug". Optimus Prime decided this would be his new name.

Goldbug journeyed with Optimus Prime and the other survivors to Chaar in search of a heat-resistent alloy that could insulate Prime from the Hate Plague. However, infected Decepticon forces attacked and contaminated Goldbug as well.

Bumblebee is part of Prowl's secret counter-infiltration unit on Earth. When Ratchet breaks cover by rescuing a trio of humans, Bumblebee is the one Autobot who supports his efforts. He accompanies Ratchet and the humans to investigate an abandoned Decepticon bunker in Nebraska. At the bunker, while the humans are inside, two Decepticons attack, and Bumblebee manages to take down Skywarp, but not before Ratchet is shot by Blitzwing.

Bumblebee is as easygoing and daring as his incarnations in previous continuity; it's his encouragement and willingness to go along that push Ratchet into taking the three humans to Nebraska, somewhat against Ratchet's conscience. That positive nature is tempered, though, by a pragmatic streak not often seen in previous incarnations of the character; while the humans explore the Nebraska bunker, Bumblebee comments to Ratchet that, given the need for evidence of unusual Decepticon activity, the humans would be "acceptable losses". However, this did not prevent the Autobot from leaping to the humans' aid as they attempted to exit the collapsing command bunker.

Bumblebee left the humans with Ratchet and traveled to Oregon, location of the second Decepticon command bunker, observing the situation until the rest of the Autobot unit can arrive. After witnessing Megatron disciplining Starscream and subsequently downgrading the infiltration unit's status to Phase Two, Bumblebee departs Oregon with the rest of the unit.

Bumblebee uses a "holomatter" when in public to avoid looking like an unmanned vehicle, which has the appearance of a young human female. It is unknown whether he can alter his (presumably male) normal voice to match his avatar's appearance.

Having been on the trail of the Decepticon agent Flamewar for a long, long time, now-espionage director Bumblebee (in his unreleased Alternators body) made his move, interrupting a supposedly-secure secret communication between Flamewar and the Tripredacus Council. He revealed that his agent Ricochet had installed a degenerative virus into Deathsaurus' clone army. Oh, and that since the Autobots now knew Flamewar's whereabouts and who she was working for, the Tripredacus Council would certainly consider her a liability. Which they did. So they blew her ship up.

Energon cartoon
A robot using Bumblebee's character model is shown in a still-shot flashback as a member of the Autobot group led by Rodimus. Whether this robot is an alternate-universe incarnation of Bumblebee or simply a similar-looking robot is --like all Unicron Trilogy character-model cameos-- left to conjecture.
: Bumblebee was released in a wide variety of colors in markets south of the border. : In 2004, Bumblebee was again reissiued in Japan in a six-toy multi-pack alongside Huffer, Cosmos, Gears, Powerglide and Warpath, but this time with a cartoon-accurate head.

: The original mold is also used by Volks. The keychain version is used by Glyph, while the new-head multi-pack version was used to make Bug Bite.

*Goldbug (Throttlebot, 1987)
: Japanese ID number: C-97

: The Throttlebot Goldbug was released in 1987, and like the other Throttlebots, he had a pull-back motor and a simple transformation. The vehicle mode was not designed to look like a penny racer, as the original toy was, so its variation on the Volkswagen Beetle was much more realistically-proportioned. Though the other Throttlebots seem to have always been intended to be new characters, Goldbug's head was based directly on that of Bumblebee's original toy. Bumblebee was the second Transformer to be given a second toy (as both versions of Hot Rod had been released the year previous).

*Bumblebee (Pretender, 1989)

: As part of the sixth year of Generation 1, Bumblebee was released as a "Classic Pretender", expanding the range of Pretenders toys. Bumblebee was still a Volkswagen Beetle, but now had what looked like off-road tires. He came with a gun for his robot mode that could be mounted on his roof and another gun for his human shell. Oddly, the robot's head is modelled after Cliffjumper's toy head. The inner robot was sold without the shell as a K-Mart exclusive Legends figure, but with the inner-robot gun to his teammate Jazz, who had Bumblebee's small gun in exchange. The Legends figure was also sold in a set with Legends Grimlock, Jazz and Starscream in Japan the same year.

*Bumblebee (Action Master, 1990)

: A non-transforming action figure that mixed cartoon model with toy-detail, Bumblebee's Action Master release came with a Heli-pack that transforms into a large gun with spring-loaded deploying barrel. This release makes Bumblebee the only character to have a toy of some kind available during the entire original Transformers production run (from 1984-1990).

*Bumble (Smallest Transformers, 2003)

: Bumblebee was released in 2003 in the Japanese Smallest Transformers line as a scaled-down version of his original toy, in both yellow and a "chase" red color scheme.

Generation 2
*Bumblebee (Mini Vehicle, 1993)

: Bumblebee's first Generation 2 toy was a redeco of his original toy, but with gold chrome on the previously yellow parts.

*Bumblebee (Go-Bot, 1995)

: Bumblebee's second release in the Generation 2 line was as a recolor of the Go-Bot High Beam, transforming into a concept race car with exposed rear engine.

: This mold was also used to make Crosswise and Nightracer.

Classics
*Bumblebee (Deluxe, 2006)

:The Deluxe Bumblebee transforms into a yellow sports car (labeled as a "cruiser" on the package). He comes with a single accessory: A jet ski called Wave Crusher on a trailer. In robot mode, Bumblebee is articulated with ball joints at the head, shoulders, elbows, hips, and has hinge knees. Wave Crusher converts into a jet pack that mounts onto his back.

:This mold will be redecoed into Classics Cliffjumper.

:It is the best toy ever.

*Bumblebee (Legends, 2007)

:This Classics Bumblebee toy is a redeco of Legends of Cybertron Hot Shot, transforming into a modified Chrysler ME Four Twelve concept car. We have gone full circle.

Attacktix
*Bumblebee (Booster, 2007)
:Attacktix ID number: TF06

: Part of the second-series Transformers Attacktix Boosters, Bumblebee is a "Rare" 20-point "Specialist" that fires a standard missile. His Special Power, "Infiltrate", does something probably cool but we don't know what yet.

Merchandise
Unreleased
: One of the earliest proposals in the Alternators line, line-art of a "new Beetle" incarnation of Bumblebee (with a Cliffjumper retooling) has been revealed by Takara in their Binaltech sourcebook. However, since Volkswagen rejected Hasbro/Takara's licensing pitch, the toy never progressed beyond line-art phase.

2007 Movie
spoiler
In Transformers (2007) movie. Bumblebee is no longer a VW Beetle, but a Chevrolet Camaro and later will be modified into a Saleen-modified 2009 version of the car. He also may not be vocal on the film because his vocal system would be ripped out and may communicate through his car radio. And it has been confirmed that he is the only Transformer to have had an animatronic figure built for the film because the rest will be CGI.
Attacktix is one of Hasbro's new gaming properties. Players select an "army" of figures, then try to use the figures' special abilities (firing missiles, spring-loaded strike attacks, and the like) to knock down the opposing force. The games rules are set as such that the game can be played very simply and quickly between two players, or more involved battles with multiple players and more rules and turnarounds.

Initially, the Attacktix line consisted solely of Star Wars characters; however, Hasbro has since introduced Transformers characters to the mix -using a combination of characters from the Unicron Trilogy and Generation 1 series, even dipping into Universe and a few unique creations, plus recently added heroes and villains from Marvel Comics. Most strikingly, the Attacktix line featured a "Intergalactic Showdown" crossover pack, pitting Transformers characters AGAINST Star Wars characters for utter supremacy of the Male Action market.

Most of the pieces are available in randomized, blind-packed Booster sets. Originally these came three to a pack, but with the addition of Transformers, the sets were reduced to cheaper two-packs. The Booster-pack figures are (somewhat misleadingly) rated "Rare" and "Super Rare": each pack contains one of each, but there are twice as many "Super Rare" pieces in an assortment as there are "Rares".

Whether even more Transformers generations as well as other Hasbro toyline properties like G.I. Joe will join the Attacktix war has yet to be seen, but seems highly likely. All of the Attacktix characters are compatible and you can use multiples of any one; you can have a team consisting of Yoda, Ransack and Spider-Man if you wish, or nothing but multiple Grimlocks.

Wicked.

Gameplay Basics
The most basic setup of the game involves two players picking an equal number of pieces and placing them on a smooth surface about three feet apart. Players then move as many pieces as they wish as many "tix" as shown on their piece by "rolling" them. At any time during movement, the player can attack with a set number of their pieces; the last player to have any pieces standing wins.

Most pieces fall under two attack categories: Missiles or Melee. (There are a few special cases, but so far, all Transformers pieces are combat-only.) Missile-launching pieces can attack from a distance (the spring mechanisms in Attacktix pieces are very strong), but typically cannot move as many "tix" per turn. Melee pieces need to get up-close for their swipes, stabs, and lifting actions to be effective, so to counter that they typically can move a greater number of "tix" per turn.

More advanced methods of play are set up using Point Values and Special Powers.

Point Values
Every piece is rated a certain number of Points. Typically, the higher the point value, the more effective the piece is in battle (more "tix" per turn, more effective attacks/special powers, wider bases to make knocking them down more difficult, etc). While most pieces range from 10 to 40 points, the large and very powerful "Battle Master" pieces can be worth up to 80. Players may set a maximum total point value to even the playing field, adjusting strategy to match: use a large force of weaker troops to wear down the other team with multiple attacks, or only a few very strong ones in the hopes of overpowering the opponent quickly?

Special Powers
On the bottom of every piece's base is a Special Power that goes into effect when the piece is knocked over, if the "Attacktix Window" on the bottom shows white. These vary wildly, from giving you retaliatory moves and/or attacks, replacing the fallen figure with another piece of a specified Class, Allegiance or even a specific character, and such. It is a good idea to assemble a team whose Special Powers complement each other; while this typically means sticking with a "theme" (Imperials, Autobots), this is not always the case, thanks to the Class markings.

Transformers Attacktix pieces
:(Note: More detail on each pieces' Special Powers are given on their individual pages.)
:Cliffjumper is an Autobot in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Cliffjumper hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates Decepticons, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling ridiculously huge guns from nowhere and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his "glass gas", which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

In vehicle mode, Cliffjumper is one of the fastest ground-vehicle Autobots, if not absolutely the fastest.
Cliffjumper was a part of the crew onboard the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago while clearing an asteroid field in the path of Cybertron. He was deactivated for a while during Shockwave's occupation of the Ark, but was repaired without incident when Ratchet reclaimed it.

However, the head of Optimus Prime was still missing, and during an attempt to retrieve it, an imposter head took control of Prime's body, firing on Cliffjumper. Presumably repaired, he later participated in the Dinobot Hunt, along with Gears and Windcharger. Although they found Sludge, immediately thereafter all three were captured by the Decepticons. They were rescued by Bumblebee.

He was one of the observers to Blaster and Grimlock's battle on the moon. How he fared in the following Decepticon attack is unknown, but he's never seen again.
Cliffjumper was a part of the crew onboard the Ark when it crashed into Earth four million years ago during a search for new energy sources. His alt-mode was reformatted into an oddly proportioned Porsche 924.

When the Autobots awakened from their four million-year slumber, Cliffjumper was eager for action. He volunteered to tag along on Hound's recon mission to scout out Decepticons because he was itching to "boot some Decepticon right in his turbocharger." Though Optimus Prime's orders were only to find the Decepticons, Cliffjumper brashly tried to engage the enemy once Hound sniffed them out.

Cliffjumper missed his shot, and the Decepticons dispatched Laserbeak to chase off the Autobot eavesdroppers. Hound got pasted by Laserbeak's laser blasts, requiring extensive repair from Autobot medic, Ratchet. though Cliffjumper was remorseful for having acted without thinking, Hound didn't hold a grudge.

While pursuing Nightbird, the female robot ninja built to benefit mankind, Cliffjumper was the only Autobot unable to jump up the cliff after her. Ironic.
In "the Great Car Rally", a bunch of humans set up a race for charity. The victor would received a year's supply of oil and gasoline. Well, the Decepticons desperately wanted that bounty, so rather than just steal it, they decided to sneak into the race. Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots driving in the rally and was unaware that the scary black cadillac was actually being driven by Megatron. Megatron dogged Cliffjumper for quite a while but ended up losing to the Minibot. Cliffjumper won the race and everybody smiled, even Optimus Prime.

Initially, the Attacktix line consisted solely of Star Wars characters; however, Hasbro has since introduced Transformers characters to the mix -using a combination of Unicron Trilogy and Generation 1 characters, plus heroes and villains from Marvel Comics.

All of the Attacktix characters are compatable; you can have a team consisting of Yoda, Ransack and Spider-Man if you wish.

Later, on Ceti Alpha Seven, where Deathsaurus unlocked the secret of Insecticon cloning in Buzzclaw and Dirge, the two Autobots arrived as part of a team sent to destroy the cloning facility.
Untold eons after his most powerful creation, Unicron, rebelled and nearly destroyed him, the immortal mad scientist, Primacron, decided to have another go at it. This time, he created a monster entirely of energy. The result was Tornadron, a being capable of taking any form it chooses and can suck all manner of energy from anything in the known galaxy.

Voice actor: Neil Ross (US), ? (Japan)

Tornadron was created by Primacron as his second means to take over the Universe. Sensing the danger Tornadron presented, Primacron's Assistant (now a disembodied energy being, himself), telepathically summoned all the "Primitives" among the Transformers. The Primitives were charged with defeating Tornadron, who had already sucked all the energy from Cybertron and Earth.

The Primitives performed rather poorly, all being drained of energy save for Grimlock, who managed to elude Tornadron. As one could expect, Tornadron quickly rebelled against Primacron just as Unicron had, and threated to "eat" his creator. Before Tornadron had the chance (well, okay, he had a lot of chance, he was just taking his dear sweet time to do so, like a big dumb doof), Grimlock came to the rescue and randomly flipped a reversal switch which caused all of Tornadron's energies to disperse. All the energy he had devoured was returned to its rightful place, and in celebration, Grimlock destroyed Primacron's laboratory. Call of the Primitives
Action Masters are Transformers that traded in their ability to transform to become stronger, faster, and more alive. As the Autobot/Decepticon war drained more and more of their resources, a new source of fueling, Nucleon, was discovered which would grant Transformers amazing power, but at a cost. To compensate for their lost ability to transform, the Action Masters built transforming partners and (massive) vehicles to aid them in battle.

A few Action Masters managed to retain (or possibly regain) the ability to transform; they are known as Action Master Elites.

Fiction
Toy packaging blurb
According to the toy packaging Optimus Prime went searching for new energy sources and, within the heart of a black hole discovered Nucleon: a miracle fuel that made Transformers stronger, faster, and more alive, but cost them the ability to transform. Soon the Decepticons stole the technology and created Action Masters of their own.

This story was later referenced with the Japanese release of Nucleon Quest Convoy, a black repaint of Powermaster Optimus Prime who was given the backstory of being Prime specially outfitted for this trip into the black hole.

Marvel Comics continuity
Grimlock heard rumors of a new miracle fuel on the planet Hydrus 4. Against orders he stole the non-functioning bodies of his fellow Dinobots and headed there to find out. What he descovered was a ruined world filled with creepy, obsessive, rotting zombie-like beings warning him that it was all because of Nucleon. Being Grimlock, he then went ahead and used the fuel anyway, first on himself then to revive his fallen teammates.

Grimlock soon found parts of his body inexplicably seizing up, and began to fear that he should have listened to the creepy dieing robots after all. After returning to the Ark Grimlock used the Nucleon to repair all the damaged Autobots in the ship's medical bay (as well as Megatron, whom he didn't know was there). Following the Transformers battle with Unicron Grimlock froze-up entirely. It was then that Hi-Q (in the process of mergeing with Optimus Prime) saw with "Powermaster eyes" that Grimlock wasn't malfunctioning, but changing. He used his Powermaster abillities to speed-up the process and Grimlock burst forth in his new, more-powerful Action Master form.

:(Note: Grimlock is the only actual Action Master to appear in the US comics. Other Action Master toys are represented, but not having been changed by Nucleon they are likely not actual Action Masters. Simon Furman has commented that if the comic book had continued we would have seen other Transformers become Action Masters, and we also would have seen a follow up to the hints that Nucleon effects everyone differently, with some Transformers being affected by it in various alternate ways.)

The Action Master toyline, depicting the obvious oxymoron of "Transformers who don't transform," generated initial ire from some fans. This was magnified as Action Masters were released in the final year of the original Transformers toyline in the US. When Transformers was summarily cancelled in North America, some fans blamed the gimmick for the death of the franchise (despite the wide variety of other factors that doubtlessly were involved).

One aspect Action Masters is notable for, however, is the mass reintroduction of "classic" characters. New toys for old characters was not a theme the original toyline visited very often, and so to have a single subline with so many recurring favorites was, at the time, a novelty. In addition, the classic characters were designed to more closely resemble their cartoon counterparts. For much of the Season 1 and 2 cast, the original figures having been designed years before they were stylized and simplified for the cartoon, these Action Masters were the closest likenesses of their fiction representatons ever.

As with many other changes to the Transformers brand, initial hostility towards Action Masters from the fandom eventually became less intense, and diversified into a broad range of opinion. Many of the most in-demand vintage (and therefore expensive) Transformers toys are Action Masters, and new characters from this subgroup are still harkened back to in newer toylines. For example, Axer shows up in the Robots in Disguise toyline, Armada Overload has design elements based on Rollout, and Cybertron Smokescreen's colors are a partial homage to Rad.
The Autorollers are a small group of Transformer toys that autotransform from vehicle to robot when pushed forward. Two were released late in the Generation 2 toyline: Dirtbag and Roadblock. Redecoes of both were planned, as "General Optimus Prime" and "Sergeant Hound", but were not released. It would appear that promotion in the Autobot army is hard on the leg articulation.

These two already-released molds, as well as two more Autorollers which had until then remained unused, were released in Japan for the Beast Wars II line. This awesome foursome included Autolauncher, Autojetter, Autostinger, and Autocrusher. Zounds! It seems they all share a common name element with the team name; how tricky. Gabba gabba hey, gabba gabba hey.

Beast Wars II cartoon
Megastorm reformatted the Autorollers from four blank protoforms to boldly go forth and do fun Predacon things like burning trees and shooting up forest creatures. Public urination, however, was reserved for the opposition.

Even before adopting their vehicular forms (culled from ancient planet Gaia records), Megastorm referred to the protoforms as Autorollers.
I'm unsure as to whether I consider, say, new movie Bonecrusher to be the same character as G1 Bonecrusher in the sense that he should like to Bonecrusher (G1) and be written up in that entry like any other continuity. I kinda feel like he, and probably Scorponok and maybe Brawl, aren't "the same guy" in the sense that Megatron, Starscream, and the Autobots seem to be. On the other hand, it's probably impossible to really make a good judgement on that until the movie actually comes out. --Steve-o 04:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Chances are, we'll end up having to do (Movie) pages for all of these characters anyway, so I wouldn't really worry about it until the movie's been released. - Dark T Zeratul 05:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

:We'll have to worry about it sooner! The IDW prequel comic comes out next month. I had a discussion about this with Steve-o in person a while back, but I figger I should give my idea here.
: I think everyone from the movie should be given their own page, under X (Movie) if they require the (Movie) tag for disambiguation purposes. This is not to say that they will be considered separate characters. For obvious carry-overs like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, they will simply have Movie sections on their G1 pages that have, for example, "See Bumblebee (Movie)" under the header, like Optimus Prime's toy section. (Stuff like this will especially come in handy on Prime's page, which is too long for more material already.)
: My reasoning for doing this to all the characters? The Movie is a huge franchise, and something that will be THE most prominent and pervasive Transformers media, probably of all time, and so separating them will increase ease of use, especially for more casual browsers. This will also allow us to focus exclusively on these versions of characters in a better way, with concept design stages, once the Art of" books come out, maybe even have a "Differences between the movie version and previous versions of the characters" section, again which would be beneficial to more casual browsers. --ItsWalky 17:05, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
::That all makes good sense to me. I am wondering, though, about what the continuity notes for the Movie-character articles should say. Would the Movie and its related fiction be a labeled as a portion of G1, or would it be called a new continuity family of its own? --KilMichaelMcC 17:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
::That I'm not 100% sure on. Though if Bumblebee, Prime, Megatron, Starscream, and Jazz are considered versions of the G1 character, I would say that probably necessitates it being considered in the G1 continuity family based on that technicality. If it's its own continuity family, then it can't share any of another continuity family's characters without some dimension-hopping. --ItsWalky 17:39, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
:::Well, this begs the question of what qualifies as "G1." From the sound of things, the movie has about as much in common with G1 as Armada did; in that it was definantly INSPIRED by G1 and definantly shapes a lot of things around what came in G1, but it also treads a lot of new ground and sort of does it's own thing. I mean, there's not a whole heaping lot fo different between Optimus in Armada and Optimus in G1. Likely there is going to be about the same ammount of difference for Optimus in the movie. I vote we give the movie it's own continuity family. Of course, that means we need to name it. ::::"Dreamworks continuity"? --M Sipher 01:27, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
::::Well, that hs a similar issue as calling it the Film continuity, as Dreamworks isn't responsible for all the content for it. Heh, if we wanted to be real smartasses, we could call it "Michael Bay Continuity Family." Honestly though, after looking at it, the most central thing to this new continuity is the movie, as much as I don't want to wind up with that one, I can't think of a better option. The others are probably right in that we should wait and see if a good tagline pops up. (Had Aaron Archer not come up with the Unicron Trilogy, I wonder if we'd stil be calling it A-E-C. :D) --UndeadScottsman 01:36, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
