I would really like there to be a category for fandom jargon, such as kibble, shellformer, and so on. I would just "be bold" (as they asy on Wikipedia), but I confess that I'm not sure what the best name for this category should be ("fan[dom] jargon"? "collector slang"??), nor what supercategory it would fit in. Anyone have suggestions? --64.109.166.197 20:56, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
:If memory serves, the low limit to category contents is just three, and we have well over three articles that could qualify. I'm generally opposed to overcategorization, but this idea would be a handy idea to decipher the meaning of some of those entries without having to actually read the article.

:::Well, I on't know how it would help decipher the meaning of those entries without having to read the article, but it would be a useful aid for newbies who want to brush up on terminology. I confess that I sometimes have trouble with the articles (and even more trouble with In Space, No One Can Hear Starscream ;) ) --64.109.166.197 23:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
My suggestion is more controvercial than I had expected! I'm a newbie here, and unaquainted with your customs. But, see, that's exactly why I would like such a category: it would make it easier for people like me, who enjoy Transformers but have never been part of the fandom community, to learn about terminology. It doesn't seem like it makes sense to write a glossary page for all the technical terms, but a category page would be a very easy way to get all the words in one go. --64.109.166.197 20:45, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
These are currently in :Category:Fandom, but would not be in my proposed category. :::Speaking for myself I know I would find a "Fan terminology" category appealing, and more useful than :Category:Fandom as it currently stands. I dunno.) --Steve-o 04:55, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
:And I suspect it wouln't be that hard to find eight articles on this sort of terminology, especially if you include things like redeco, and even iffy items like army building (not exclusive to transformers fandom, but still an important term), and even the above-mentioned gimmick (an every day word, yes, but it has a specialized meaning in TF circles). --64.109.166.197 21:04, 28 October 2007 (UTC)<div id="wikia-credits"><br /><br /><small>From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki, a Wikia wiki.</small></div>

:If memory serves, the low limit to category contents is just three, and we have well over three articles that could qualify. I'm generally opposed to overcategorization, but this idea would be a handy idea to decipher the meaning of some of those entries without having to actually read the article.

:Not that people shouldn't read the articles.--Sntint 21:30, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
::The low-limit to category contents is EIGHT. --ItsWalky 21:36, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
:::I think for non-character articles, we can be a little lenient. I mean, we made the "eight" rule so every minor subgroup ever wouldn't be Categorized unnecessarily. --M Sipher 22:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
:::Oh, also, I suggest the name for the Category be as simple and direct as possible. "Fan terminology" or "Fan terms", which would probably fall under the "Fandom" Category itself. --M Sipher 22:40, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

:Is there a reason that the already-existing :Category:Fandom isn't good enough? If we push fan terms into a subcategory, we'll have to decide which words are "fan terms" as opposed to design, manufacturing or marketing terms that fans use all the time. Where does "gimmick" go, for example? The movie features Sam Witwicky, a plucky teenager who just wants a cool car, but gets more than he bargained for. The beater he and his father take home is actually Bumblebee, an alien robot from the planet Cybertron, who plants Sam down in the middle of a civil war between Bumblebee's benevolent Autobot comrades and the evil Decepticons who threaten the galaxy's peace. Both sides are after the All Spark, a mysterious artifact that landed on Earth ten thousand years ago. The approaching robot-against-robot battle is a coming-of-age moment for Sam, who learns the meaning of his family's motto, "No sacrifice, no victory."

The film begins with the history of Cybertron's destruction at the hands of Megatron, and his quest to obtain the All Spark. Megatron discovers the All Spark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in the late 19th century. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the coordinates to the All Spark's location. Sector 7, a secret organization of the United States government, discovers the All Spark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask its energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

In the present day, the rest of the Decepticons — Blackout, Scorponok, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Bonecrusher, and Devastator — have already landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles. Blackout and Scorponok attack U.S. SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar in an effort to use the military database to discover the location of Megatron and the All Spark, but they do not succeed. A small group of survivors from the military base attack wander through the desert and are attacked by Scorponok. The Autonomous Robotic Organism (shortened to "Autobot") known as Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, and looking for Sam Witwicky, the descendant of Captain Archibald Witwicky. As soon as he locates Sam, the two quickly begin to bond as Bumblebee helps Sam try and woo his crush, Mikaela Banes; Sam is unaware of the fact that Bumblebee is an alien, until he witnesses Bumblebee transform and send out a homing signal for the rest of the Autobots. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One and discovers that Sam possesses the map that will lead the Decepticons to the All Spark. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location.

Barricade confronts Sam, demanding Archibald's glasses. Bumblebee, who is following Sam, transforms and battles Barricade. Mikaela, who is also following Sam, is caught in the crossfire, and leaves with Sam and Bumblebee to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots — Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet — land on Earth and take on the forms of several Earth vehicles. They all meet in a dark, secluded alley, transform in front of the two amazed humans, introduce themselves and tell of the reasons they had to come to Earth to Sam and Mikaela. Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots then return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. However, agents from Sector 7 arrive to take Sam and Mikaela into custody. Bumblebee is also apprehended, against the pleas of Sam who assures the agents - to no avail - that he means them no harm.

Frenzy secretly accompanies the group to the Hoover Dam, and releases Megatron from cryogenic stasis. Locating the All Spark, he sends out an alert to the rest of the Decepticons. Megatron escapes, and Sam convinces the Sector 7 agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the All Spark to Optimus Prime. The Decepticons chase the Autobots, who now possess the All Spark, into a neighboring city. An ensuing battle results in casualties for both sides, including Jazz. Finally, with both Prime and Megatron weakened, Prime beckons Sam to shove the All Spark into his chest, destroying them both, but Sam instead takes the riskier action of shoving the All Spark into Megatron's chest. The remains of the Decepticons are cast into the Laurentian Abyss. With no other home to go to - Cybertron having been destroyed by Megatron - the Autobots decide to stay on Earth, and Optimus sends out a signal across space in an effort to locate any surviving Autobots, while Sam and Mikaela begin a relationship. Starscream, one of the Decepticons that survived the battle, leaves Earth.
Quotes
"Before time began, there was the Cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life. That was how our race was born. For a time, we lived in harmony, but like all great power, some wanted it for good, others for evil. And so began the war - a war that ravaged our planet until it was consumed by death, and the Cube was lost to the far reaches of space. We scattered across the galaxy, hoping to find it and rebuild our home, searching every star, every world. And just when all hope seemed lost, message of a new discovery drew us to an unknown planet called... Earth. But we were already too late."
Other editions
The 2007 Transformers film has more than one 'cut.'

* The worldwide theatrical release was essentially identical all around the world with a few minor exceptions.
** The film board of Malaysiafact required Judy Witwicky's masturbation reference be removed. However, no such change has been made and her lines were not omitted from the film.
* The IMAX edition of the movie features two minutes of additional footage in the form of slightly extended scenes and very brief new scenes. Added material includes the following:
**Before heading to the lake party, Sam is shown picking Miles up at his house. Miles derides Sam's choice of car colors.
**After Sam is questioned by the sheriff at the police station, he is given an anti-drug bumper sticker and shown the "This is Your Brain on Drugs" PSA starring Rachel Leigh Cook.
**After abducting Sam and Mikaela, Agent Simmons uses a device to monitor Sam's pupil dilation while interrogating him in the truck. He also remarks that he has "been there" when it comes to women with criminal records.
**Upon arriving at Hoover Dam, Simmons remarks colorfully that it is "Area 50". A few minutes later, he lists the nicknames of all the U.S. Presidents to have toured the facility.
**In Mission City, Lennox acquires short-range radios from a gun-toting, but easily-flattered, pawn shop owner.

Prequel material
Prior to the movie's release IDW Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled "Prime Directives", which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to Earth. An animated version will be featured on the DVD. A novel, Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday, is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience into things from Sam's POV, as he learns of not only the Transformers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

It should be noted, however, that some dialogue in the film contradicts the prequel material, specifically pertaining to the years in which the frozen Megatron was moved from the Arctic to Hoover Dam.

Included in a Wal-Mart 2-Disc exclusive of the Movie DVD is a bonus disc entitled Transformers Beginnings a not-really-animated animatic version of IDW's Prime Directives prequel comics, voiced by some of the actors from the movie, the game and a bunch of other people.
Reception
The movie set multiple records when it opened, including biggest opening week gross for a non-sequel ($155.4 million), biggest Tuesday release gross ($27.4 million), biggest July 4th gross ($29 million), and the biggest foreign film opening in mainland China ($3 million).

As of October 17, 2007, it has earned a worldwide gross of $700,993,495. US gross accounted for $310,578,372, before the IMAX version's release, and is currently at $317,667,377 after almost a month. It currently sits at spot #19 in the "most domestic gross" list of movies, though this listing is not adjusted for inflation. When taking that into account, Transformers just ekes in at spot #95.

Critical reception was hit-and-miss, more positive than negative but not by a lot, though it's sometimes hard to tell how many negative reviewers were more interested in screaming about Michael Bay in general over the movie itself. Otherwise, the most common negatives involved it being a generally think-free "spectacle"-style movie; even those who rated the movie positively noted it was a pure "popcorn" movie meant to wow its audience with CGI and explosions rather than make them think (Richard Roper noted in his "thumbs up" review "it has no nutritional value"). Whether one considers that a good or bad thing for a movie and if the movie was enough fun to overcome that is, of course, highly debatable. The other main culprit, again noted by many of the positive reviews, was its long running time, particularly the overly-chaotic, often hard-to-follow final big-bang extended ending action sequence. (Roger Ebert noted that this sequence was what made him give the movie three out of four stars rather than the full four.)

Currently, two sequels are planned, with Shia LaBeouf and Peter Cullen signed for both. Michael Bay, Spielberg, and the two screenwriters have also returned, with pre-production already underway.

Trivia
* The Autobot computer generated models consisted of 35,592 total pieces, 7,435,478 polygons, 95,247 rig nodes, and 20,258 texture maps. If laid end to end, the pieces would stretch 3.11 miles.
* For all the robots combined, there are 60,217 pieces of geometry, 123,509,502 polygons, 144,341 rigging nodes, and 34,215 texture maps.
* At the base in Qatar, one of the soldiers was speaking in rhymes. Whether or not this was a reference to G.I JOES Roadblock remains to be seen.

Errors
* Sunset happens roughly every fifteen minutes.
Not actually an error
* Sam and Mikaela, as well as Maggie and Glenn arrive at Hoover Dam on the same helicopter despite being from opposite ends of the country. Occasionally cited as an error, it is actually a narrative oversight, as it is likely that Sam and Mikaela were held in custody at a U.S. Air Base while waiting for Maggie and Glen to arrive with Secretary Keller's party by plane, then they all left for Hoover Dam together on the helicopters.

:Elita One is an Autobot from the Generation One continuity family. She was once known as Ariel.

Elita One is the female counterpart to Optimus Prime; a powerful warrior, fearless in the face of her enemies, but compassionate to those who cannot defend themselves. She commands a squad of female Autobots, and has their undying trust and support.

While her pistol is powerful enough to blast Shockwave out of the air in one shot (!), her greatest power is her ability to briefly stop time. Sadly, this ability drains all of her life force, and is almost assuredly fatal, and thus she only uses it in the direst of situations.

When the situation calls for it, she consults the wise Alpha Trion, her unbeknownest creator, via a holographic message machine.

:(Note: Elita One's name shares the same root meaning as Optimus Prime's... "Best First". For many years, the actual spelling of her name was the subject of much fandom debate. The MC Axis kit finally gave her name the current spelling, and was later backed up by episode scripts.) Elita is s presumably derived from "elite," which comes from the Latin electa, meaning "Chosen." So her name translates as Chosen One, which makes sense as she was the one Alpha Trion chose to gift the special power and to lead the Femmes.

Nine million years ago, during the Golden Age of Cybertron, there lived a female robot named Ariel, the girlfriend of dock worker Orion Pax. She'd heard that the new "flying robots" that Orion and and his friend Dion admired had put together an army and attacked one of Cybertron's outer cities, but Dion laughingly dismissed her as gullible.

One of those "flying robots" - Megatron - raided the energy storage facility Orion worked at with his transport drones. While Megatron was in the midst of an assault on Orion, Ariel tried to stop him, only to be gunned down herself, by Megatron.

Fortunately for all involved, the time-lost Aerialbots brought the deactivated Orion to Alpha Trion for repairs, who recreated the young robot as the first of Cybertron's new defenders - Optimus Prime. Prime and the Aerialbots then convinced Alpha Trion to try reconstructing Ariel; after agreeing to send some droids for her, Alpha Trion mused to himself that "Elita One" would be a good name for a female warrior. War Dawn

Five million years later, Elita One tried to board the Autobot starship as it took off on its mission to search for energy - wanting to go with Optimus - but she was seemingly destroyed while the ship was attacked during takeoff. The Search for Alpha Trion

(Note: In the original pilot, the Ark did not appear to be under attack as it launched. The Ark being attacked and Elita One's presence as it took off constitues a retcon.)

But Elita One did not perish. About four million years later, she was in command of a team of Female Autobots, including Chromia, Firestar, and Moonracer, who had been raiding Shockwave's energon supplies in secret for an unknown length of time. Their existance was revealed thanks to Moonracer's carelessness, which subsequently lead to Elita's One capture by Starscream and the destruction of their secret base by Rumble.

Way to go, Moonracer.

Elita was used as bait to lure Optimus Prime into a trap, where he too was captured - and was soon on the block for execution in a vat of acid. Desperate to save her beloved, Elita triggered her time-stopping power, which allowed her to save Prime... but expended nearly all her life-force doing so.

After getting them both out of Decepticon Headquarters, Optimus was able to track Alpha Trion to his secret base. The ancient Autobot repaired Elita to the best of his ability, but revealed to Optimus Prime that only he could save Elita by interfacing to her with his power filter. An astonished Optimus Prime stated that only his CREATOR could know that!

(Optimus Prime had apparently forgotten that Alpha Trion was his creator, although he seemed to know that Alpha Trion created Elita One, making a knowing comment when Elita said that Alpha Trion was like a father to her. Which is really kind of creepy when you think about it.)

After Elita One was re-energized, she and Prime arrived in time to save both a group of Earth-based Autobots who had followed Prime to Cybertron and Elita's own troops from certain death at the hands of the Decepticons. Notably, Elita shot Shockwave out of the air with a single blast from her pistol.

With their original secret base in ruins, Alpha Trion quickly set the female Autobots up with a new one, full of advanced equipment.

Though regretful that they'd be apart again so soon, Elita One elected to stay behind on Cybertron and continue the fight at home while Optimus and the other Autobots returned to the war on Earth. Of course, this didn't prevent her from telling him not to stay away TOO long... The Search for Alpha Trion

MC Axis Kit mini-comic
Elita One and her team toppled a colossal Decepticon warrior. Though her team was jubilant at their victory, Elita knew that this one victory was far from enough to win the war, and longed for Prime to return so they could re-take their homeworld.

Dreamwave comics continuity
Elita One and the other female Autobots were an elite squad of warriors under the command of the Quintessons, waiting for intel from their Autobot sleeper agent, Arcee.

(Note: Dreamwave filed for bankruptcy and stopped producing Transformers books right as the female Autobots arc was beginning.

Marvel comics continuity
Classics
:(Note: The Classics story takes place in a post-Marvel Generation 1 comics universe where Generation 2 did not happen.)

Elita One is part of Grimlock's crew on the Graviton. After following Bug Bite's crew of Decepticons to Earth, she fights her way into the Decepticon base herself with radical martial arts. She is so totally awesome, what anyone else does isn't really that important, apparently. Games of Deception

:(Note: Her appearance is apparently designed with a redeco of Thunderblast in mind.)

IDW comic continuity
Elita appears with her boyfriend, their father, and a close friend/white clone of her boyfriend at Bumper and Fastback's funeral. Megatron Origin, part 3
Merchandise
* An officially-licensed Japanese "garage kit" unpainted resin model of her robot mode was made by MC Axis in 1996.

Trivia
* A Cybertronian battle scene in Comics Bom-Bom (reprinted in Transformers Generations) depicts Elita One fighting the Decepticons alongside other pre-Earth Autobots.

* According to writer David Wise, he did not intend for Ariel to be rebuilt as Elita 1 when writing War Dawn. Whether Ariel was originally supposed to die or if she was supposed to be rebuilt into someone else is unknown.

* Elita One's alt-mode has never been depicted in its entirety. As shown above, only the very front end is seen, as the rest is hidden by Optimus Prime's truck mode. It looks a little like a mish-mash of the alt modes of Wheelie and Arcee.

* In the War Within graphic novel, Elita One's silhouette is depicted on Optimus' mudflap in vehicle mode, similar to the "naked lady" silhouette decal seen on modern vehicles.
