Though a member of the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]], '''Jazz''' is a bit of an independent thinker. He's reluctant to disobey orders, but he has more of an appreciation for the finer things than his compatriots. This is evidenced in his better choice of vehicle mode disguise, a "sweet ride" drawn from Earth culture. He is a [[Cyber-Ninja Corps|Cyber-Ninja]], like [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]]. However, his training is more progressed, and instead of ninja stars he wields a pair of nunchaku. He seems to be the only one of the Elite Guard willing to learn, and fits in with the Earth team pretty well.

Jazz accompanied [[Supreme Commander]] [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]] to [[Earth]] to retrieve [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]]'s crew and the [[AllSpark (Animated)|AllSpark]]. When Magnus ordered Jazz to activate a [[force field]] around [[Steelhaven (Animated)|their ship]] to prevent organic contamination from the [[Human|natives]], Jazz expressed interest in getting a closer look at them. This prompted Sentinel Prime to warn Jazz that the organics would eventually spit acidic goo that would melt through his body armor and destroy vital [[Circuits|circuitry]]. Jazz was...less willing to meet the organics after that.

When [[Sari Sumdac]] managed to sneak aboard their ship, he tried to send her out without provoking her. When she realized that Jazz was afraid of her, she tried to scare him. After [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] explained that humans were harmless (and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] explained that Sentinel Prime was a jerk), Jazz accompanied the Autobots to a Sumdac manufacturing plant that was going haywire. Jazz and Prowl managed to keep the AllSpark-powered [[police drone]]s away from Sari and Optimus long enough for Sari to shut down the assembly line. He and Prowl traded several martial arts-centered quips throughout the battle, talking about [[Metallikato]] moves like the "[[Five Servos of Doom]]" attack. {{storylink|The Elite Guard}}

When Ultra Magnus started to receive reports of [[Decepticon]] uprisings at the rim of the galaxy, Jazz commented that it was probably because they'd "got wind" that [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] was still online.

Later, Jazz noticed a spike in AllSpark energy, and Ultra Magnus took him to investigate, leaving Sentinel Prime to watch Optimus Prime. Their combined attempt to remove the "SmallSpark", which [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] had booby-trapped, failed, and they were blown off the train in which it was embedded. Optimus and his crew, with the help of Sari and the [[AllSpark Key]], successfully and safely removed the AllSpark fragment, but Jazz could only watch as they received a dressing-down from Ultra Magnus for becoming involved. Then Starscream himself crashed to Earth, courtesy of Megatron's cannon, and knocked out Magnus. Jazz turned to Sentinel for orders, but the panicking Guardsbot was unable to think of anything. Optimus took over, directing his crew and Sari to various tasks and himself, Jazz and Sentinel to take down Starscream—although Jazz needed to talk down the posturing pair of [[Prime (rank)|Primes]] before they could get to fighting the bad guy.

His nunchaku proved ineffective, however, and he was swiftly knocked out, leaving Optimus to save the day again. Jazz later escorted Optimus's crew in taking the [[Stasis lock|stasis-locked]] and gagged Starscream to be imprisoned in the Elite Guard's ship, before the three Guardsbots and their ship departed, leaving Optimus and his crew to deal with the remaining Decepticons on Earth. {{storylink|Mission Accomplished}}

Jazz was still on board the Elite Guard ship, along with Ultra Magnus and Sentinel, during the galactic battles with the Decepticon rebels when they received a transmission from [[Rodimus Prime (Animated)|Rodimus]] requesting back-up. Jazz had told him to hold on a little longer, but by the time the Elite Guard had arrived, [[Team Chaar]] had already left, albeit on [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron's]] orders. {{storylink|TransWarped}}

[[Shockwave (Animated)|Longarm Prime]] later sent Jazz, accompanied by Sentinel, Jetfire, and Jetstorm, to go after the supposed traitor [[Wasp]]. However, Wasp had retreated to Earth, much to Longarm's dismay, as he had ordered all contact with that planet be filtered through him. Despite this, Jazz and the others still went after the traitor. They found Optimus Prime's crew, who revealed that Longarm was really Shockwave, a Decepticon double-agent, and that Wasp had been innocent the whole time. Sentinel later succeeded in capturing [[Swindle (Animated)|Swindle]], [[Sunstorm (Animated)|Sunstorm]], [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]], and [[Lugnut]], leaving [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] to suspect he was getting help. Jazz had this suspicion, too, and they followed Sentinel to find that he was bargaining with [[Lockdown (Animated)|a double-dealing, bounty-hunting scum]]. Jazz and the others defeated Lockdown, along with [[Ramjet (Animated)|another Decepticon fugitive]]. While they captured the clone, Lockdown escaped. When Sentinel realised he was needed on Cybertron, the Elite Guard packed up and headed for home. Jazz was disappointed, as he had enjoyed being on Earth. {{storylink|Predacons Rising}}

On the return trip, Jazz and Sentinel were contacted by the Autobot council, who wished to discuss Sentinel's temporary promotion. Sentinel let this go to his head and told Jazz to refer to him as "Commander". He also directed Jazz to take them through an unstable ion storm, despite Jazz's protests. As Jazz piloted them in, energy from the storm somehow restored Swindle, who had been stuck in his [[Alternate mode|alt mode]]. Swindle instigated a prison break, releasing the other Decepticons, and lead them in an attack on the Elite Guard. Jazz requested that Sentinel contact Cybertron for help, but fearing repercussions for allowing the escape to happen on his watch, Sentinel sent a coded message to Optimus instead. Appearing unexpectedly through a transwarp link within Swindle's chest, Optimus Prime was able to free the Elite Guard. He then made sure the Decepticons could hear him order Jazz to modify the ship's decontamination chamber to freeze its occupants. However, he simultaneously gave Jazz a secret coded order to set up the chamber to freeze those ''outside'' of it. Thus, when the Decepticons eventually recaptured the Autobots and placed them in the chamber, it backfired, allowing the Autobots to escape and recapture all the prisoners but Swindle and [[Lugnut]]. {{storylink|Decepticon Air}}

Having returned to Cybertron, Jazz began chafing under Sentinel Magnus's militant approach. When [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] and [[Captain Fanzone]] accidentally transwarped to Cybertron, Jazz followed orders and helped capture them. However, once they escaped, he tailed them and eventually helped them by granting them access to the Elite Guard infirmary so they could search for [[Arcee (Animated)|Arcee]]. After battling [[Shockwave (Animated)|Shockwave]], Ratchet was able to recapture the [[Magnus Hammer]], but refused to give it to Sentinel. Instead, he took it with him back to Earth, intent on keeping it from Sentinel and protecting it for Ultra Magnus. Sentinel started to follow, but Jazz volunteered to go instead. Jazz was mighty impressed with Prowl's mastery of [[processor-over-matter]], though his query regarding why Prowl never finished his training went unanswered. When Prowl volunteered to go to the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]] to check up on Megatron's activities, Jazz insisted he stay on Earth to complete his Cyber-Ninja training. The pair retired to some woods, where, with Jazz's encouragement, Prowl was able to reconstitute a fragment of the AllSpark solely through his mental prowess. As Optimus Prime attacked the Omega clones with the Magnus Hammer, Jazz helped the rest of the Autobots protect the humans. He later aided Prowl in attacking the two remaining Lugnut Supremes, though to little effect, and the pair retired to Sumdac Tower to work on reconstituting the AllSpark using processor-over-matter. Pooling their processors, they were able to reassemble most of the AllSpark from the scattered fragments, but not enough to protect the city. Prowl donated his own spark, despite Jazz's protest, to complete the AllSpark, and Jazz caught his comrade's lifeless body. Though the city was subsequently saved through their actions and the Autobots were celebratory, Jazz had to break the bad news. After [[Primus]] had imprisoned his and [[Unicron]]'s astral forms in asteroids, he reshaped his new body into the planet [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. From the material of this world was born the first Transformer, Prima. [[13 original Transformers| 12 others]] quickly followed, but Prima specifically was granted a font of Primus' lifeforce and power, the Creation Matrix.

Some Autobots wonder why Grimlock is even on their side. His disposition is much more suited towards the [[Decepticons]]. After all, he values power and strength over wisdom and compassion, and furthermore, he doesn't get along with any of the Autobots. It's been hypothesized that Grimlock just hates [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] more than he hates Optimus. (Which means he must hate him A LOT.)

Grimlock is the leader of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s, a small but very close team of misfits. It's been said that anyone who enters a battle with the Dinobots usually leaves it feet-first.

Comic Grimlock (and the other Dinobots as well) were much more intelligent than their Cartoon counterparts. They weren't Perceptor mind you, but they had average, functional intellects. When he first appeared in the comic Grimlock spoke normally, but later the Comic adopted the caveman-esque speach of the toon (though only for Grimlock himself, the other Dinos continued to speak normally.) This vocal tick was alternately portrayed as a malfunction or an intentional choice by Grimlock, but in either case, he retained his full intelligence. Grimlock was a powerful and arrogant warrior who believed he knew best. He ascended to the post of overall Autobot leader on several occasions, growing in the process and eventually, despite their original conflict, becoming Optimus's hand-picked leutenant and likely successor. Early on [[Blaster]] was a major thorn in his side, deserting his command. Later, he tended to fight with the straight-laced, logical [[Prowl]].

Cartoon Grimlock, like all the Cartoon Dinobots, has a steriotypical "caveman" type personality and intellect level. They originally decide to help the Autobots, for instance, because "them have face like this on chest..." Pre-movie this lack of intelligence is usually coupled together with their great power to make them dangerous wild cards, Post-move however Grimlock and the Dinos are generally played as just plain dumb for comic relief.

When mysterious tremors shook the [[Ark|Autobot base]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]]'s investigation revealed strange objects behind a rock wall. After removing the wall, the Autobots found a cave full of dinosaur bones. The Autobots decided the idea of dinosaurs was interesting and researched the prehistoric beasts. Wheeljack and [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] asked Optimus Prime if they could build robot dinosaurs, and Prime agreed this was a good idea. Grimlock, [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], and [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] were built and unveiled to the Autobots, but the Dinobots were dimwitted and violent, and they attacked their makers. Grimlock blasted [[Teletraan-I]] with his fire-breath, damaging it. Optimus Prime decreed that the Dinobots ''must be destroyed''. However, Wheeljack convinced him instead to lock them away, and the trio were herded back into the cave and buried alive.

Later, the Decepticons took over a hydroelectric plant, but when the Autobots arrived to stop them, the Autobots were defeated and captured. Wheeljack, Ratchet, and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], left behind at Autobot base to finish repairing Teletraan-I, decided to go against Optimus' orders and release the Dinobots, but not before upgrading their brains to be smarter and more obedient. After the Dinobots are reactivated, Wheeljack asks them to save their friends. Grimlock says he will obey... this time. They successfully attack the Decepticons and free the imprisoned Autobots. Optimus forgives Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Bumblebee for disobeying his orders and welcomes the victorious Dinobots back to the Autobots.

After a meteor surging with unknown energies struck the Earth, Optimus ordered the three Dinobots to guard it. He was so pleased with the Dinobots he asked Ratchet and Wheeljack to build two more. Meanwhile, Megatron was frustrated at the Dinobots' success, and sent [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] to probe them for potential weaknesses. Reading the Dinobots' minds, he discovered that Grimlock was arrogant and believed he would make a better leader than the weak Optimus Prime. Megatron decided to use this to his advantage, and approached them himself. He played to Grimlock's jealousy and agreed with him that the strongest should be leader. The Dinobots declared Optimus Prime their enemy.

Realizing the meteorite was due to explode, Optimus left to warn the Dinobots, but they attacked him. But instead of destroying him completely, Grimlock carried him to the Decepticons, who had stolen the meteorite during the battle. Megatron was angry that Optimus Prime was not destroyed, and Starscream suggested that despite Grimlock's arrogance, inside he was still compassionate. This enraged Grimlock. They were interrupted by the two new Dinobots, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]], whom Megatron ordered the original three Dinobots to attack. At the climax of the battle, the meteorite exploded, but Optimus Prime pushed Grimlock out of the way, saving him. Grimlock realized the error of his ways and the Dinobots forced the Decepticons into retreat. Grimlock apologized for his jealousy.

The Decepticons joined forces with [[Sub-Atlantica]] and staged a full-scale attack on [[Washington, D.C.]]. The Autobots were overwhelmed, forcing Wheeljack to call for the Dinobots' assistance. Grimlock expressed his frustration at being called whenever the Autobots were in over their heads. With their help, the Autobots were able to overturn the Decepticons' advance and plunge the city of Sub-Atlantica, burning, into the sea. This pattern of the Autobots' dependence on the Dinobots repeated when the artificial intelligence [[TORQ III]] turned machines against mankind. With every piece of help he and his troops gave, Grimlock was never slow to add a scathing remark about the inabilities of the Autobots. That said, he was not unwilling to admit the failings of his own troops, either, and willingly took them to the time-displaced "Dinobot Island," where they trained in the wilderness and helped stop a Decepticon raid on the prehistoric paradise.

The final straw for Grimlock came when he and the Dinobots were injured in a Decepticon trap at an airfield. Enraged, Grimlock refused to take orders from Optimus Prime any more, and led the Dinobots away from the Ark. When the Autobots began to suffer from Cybertonium deficiency, Spike Witwicky and his girlfriend Carly attempted to persuade the Dinobots - who continued to function perfectly, as they had been built on Earth without Cybertonium - to steal some of the mineral from a Decepticon shipment coming in from Cybertron. Grimlock instead opted to lead the Dinobots to Cybertron itself, where they were captured by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] and put to work in the Cybertonium mines, until Spike and Carly rescued them. Brought back to Earth, the Dinobots agreed to follow Prime's order again - until such time as Grimlock didn't feel like it.

By the Earth year 2005, it seemed apparent that Grimlock had undergone some degree of a personality change, becoming more childish and petulant, rather than brutish and stubborn. Throughtout 2006, he regularly participated in missions with his fellow Autobots rather than the other Dinobots, battling on the planets of [[Chaar]], Goo, Dredd and Eurythma. He and [[Daniel Witwicky]] were transported to the sorcerous other-dimensional realm of Menonia, where Grimlock was duped into fighting on the side of the tyrannical [[Quintesson]], the Red Wizard, and later, he helped to sniff out the "dinosaur transform static" that implicated [[Trypticon]] in the theft of world monuments. Later in the year, when Decepticon leader [[Galvatron]] had Cybertron infused with function-inverting anti-electrons, a dose of the particles gave Grimlock super-intelligence. During a mission to [[Unicron]]'s disembodied head, where the Autobots were outmatched by the new Decepticon [[Terrorcons]], Grimlock used components of Unicron's head to construct the [[Technobots]] to battle them. Combined as Computron, the Technobots felt they could not match the Terrorcons, until Grimlock transferred his super-intelligence into Computron, reverting to his old self and allowing the Technobots to claim victory.

Grimlock's greatest victory came when he and a large number of other Transformers with animal transformations were summoned to a world at the centre of the galaxy by the ex-assistant of the ancient genius, [[Primacron]], creator of Unicron. The assistant had assembled these "Primitive" Transformers in the hope that their simple instincts could defeat Primacron's newest creation, [[Tornedron]], but one by one they fell to him, with Grimlock apparently crushed under [[Trypticon]]. Grimlock survived, however, and followed Tornedron back to Primacron's lab. Botanica is a female [[Maximal]] who transforms into a mobile alien plant creature. She is competant and powerful, as well as a bit mystical, and has a strong connection to the planet and affinity for growing things.

Appearing in season 2 of the [[Beast Machines]] cartoon Botanica captained the same sort of exploration mission as the [[Axalon]] originally undertook. Landing on a planet dominated by plant life, including the mobile carnivorous variety, her crew adopted forms based upon them.

When they recieved the distress signal from [[Cybertron]] sent by [[Megatron (BW)]] she returned home and was shot down. She was apparently driven mad and trapped in plant-creature mode by [[Megatron's virus]] and did not come to herself until she was reformated to be [[technorganic]]. After this time she joined with Primal's team to help save Cybertron with a particular focus on the orchard they were attempting to grow.

Botanica eventually formed a romantic relationship with the Maximal [[Rattrap]].

Botanica had no toy.

The fate of her crew remains unrevealed...
