His friends call Ricochet ''mercurial''--to his face. Under their breath, they might mutter ''manic depressive''. Ricochet shifts without notice between a furious passion for combat and sulking, angsty depression, needing to be coerced and cajoled onto the battlefield. His fellow Nebulan Boomer takes it on himself to cheer up Ricochet when this happens. Fortunately, he's good at this.

On Nebulos, Ricochet was a renowned environmental sculptor (think, "landscaping as a fine art") who witnessed the destruction of several of his famous sculptures by the Decepticons. Stung by the perceived insult, he signed up to join the Autobots.

Ricochet was bio-engineered to turn into an automatic sub-machine gun that fires titanium-tipped, armor-piercing explosive rounds. As a Nebulan Targetmaster partner, Ricochet is able to combine with Boomer to increase the power of his own weapon or boost the power of Boomer's sonic pulse cannon.

Ricochet responds poorly to criticism.

Though Ricochet does not appear in the comic, the Terrorcons (and specifically Blot) are shown destroying several elaborately designed trees in the Nebulan city of Splendora. This could be the vandalism which caused Ricochet to join the Autobots.

Ricochet and Boomer were paired with Quickmix on Cybertron during a series of fuel raids with the recently revived Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee. When Galvatron attacked some months later, Ricochet, Boomer and the other Nebulan "double" Targetmasters were absent during their Autobot partners' fight with Galvatron.

==Toys==
Ricochet, like all the "double" Targetmaster Nebulans, is one of the smallest and least complicated Transformers. Fold the barrel away, and stand him up. He was released with the Autobot Quickmix in 1988. No version of this character or mold was released in Japan.

He is a human-created artificial intelligence program based on data taken from the Autobot [[Jazz_(G1)|Jazz]], placed inside a spare Mazda RX-8-model [[Alternator]] Transformer body. Jazz gave Zoom-Zoom his name (based on Mazda's advertising slogan), and treats him in many respects like a son or brother. He's even tried teaching Zoom-Zoom how to dance.

Though Zoom-Zoom has a limited degree of intelligence and independent thought, he is combat-capable. His body is no different from Jazz's Alternator form save in coloration, so he can hold his own in battle but lacks experience or improvisational skills. As such, he requires steady supervision on the field. Hopefully, Zoom-Zoom's learning capabilities are enough to eventually overcome this weakness.

Zoom-Zoom is a variant of the Binaltech Meister (the Japanese name for Jazz) toy, the primary difference being red plastic and paint replacing white. He shipped in a 1:1 ratio with Meister; every case had an equal number of Meisters and Zoom-Zooms. Like all Binaltech toys, he uses painted die-cast metal for most of his car-panel parts rather than colored plastic.

Zoom-Zoom was actually the first glimpse the fandom had of the Mazda Alternator toy, from a Flash presentation on the Mazda website. An early 3D model in red was presented before Hasbro or Takara had announced the toy. Fan speculation ran rampant as to who exactly the character was, as the head design was not what the toy actually ended up with, though some fans took to (loudly and jokingly) claiming the character should be called "Zoom-Zoom" due to the prevalence of the phrase in the animation. Apparently, Binaltech fiction author [[Hirofumi Ichikawa]] took this to heart.

A group of [[Maximal]]s and [[Autobot]]s are abducted from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] into the belly of Unicron. They are marched into the Cauldron and paraded in front of Razorclaw and his lieutenants [[Reptilion (TFU)|Reptilion]] and [[Obsidian (TFU)|Obsidian]]. Razorclaw explains who he is and locks the Autobots and Maximals away, telling them to prepare for battle. But while [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] and [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] are forced to battle in the arena, [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]] breaks in and fights Razorclaw. Mistaken for Tigerhawk at first, Razorclaw soon clarifies who he really is. However, Razorclaw's Vok-powered attacks are mere fuel for Primal's body, and Razorclaw is temporarily subdued. All of the prisoners contained within the Cauldron are released, and though Razorclaw and his lieutenants pursue them, Primal leads nearly all of them to safety. Only [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and [[Shadow Striker (TFU)|Shadow Striker]] stay behind, seduced by Unicron's influence.

[[Optimus Prime (RiD)|Optimus Prime]] recalls how Unicron and his minions are defeated, but Razorclaw is conspicuously absent. His fate, benevolent or otherwise, is unknown.

Razorclaw is a dark gray and purple [[redeco]] of [[Transmetal 2]] [[Tigerhawk (BW)|Tigerhawk]], transforming into a winged mechanical/organic tiger. In both modes he features multiple spring-loaded missile launchers. His feather-missile launcher mechanisms were slightly [[retool]]ed from the original version of the toy. Though his toy is a [[Decepticon]] by allegiance, it keeps its sculpted Maximal logo.

He shipped in a 1:1 ratio with Jazz; every case had an equal number of Jazzes and Zoom-Zooms. Like all Binaltech toys, he uses painted die-cast metal for most of his car-panel parts rather than colored plastic.

Zoom-Zoom was actually the first glimpse the fandom had of the Mazda Alternator toy, from a Flash presentation on the Mazda website. An early 3D model in red was presented before Hasbro or Takara had announced the toy. Fan speculation ran rampant as to who exactly the character was as the head design was not what the toy actually ended up with, though some fans took to (loudly and jokingly) claiming the character should be called "Zoom-Zoom", due to the prevalence of the phrase in the animation. Apparently, Binaltech author [[Hirofumi Ichikawa]] took this to heart.
