'''Optimus Prime and his small crew of maintenance Autobots come into possession of the All Spark. This powerful Cybertronian artifact attracts the attention of the Autobots' long-forgotten enemies, the Decepticons, and sends them all crashing toward a strange, distant planet known as... ''Earth.'''''

==Detailed synopsis==
===Part 1===

In deep, deep space, [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Optimus Prime]] watches some old history videos, prompting [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] to complain about him watching that "junk" when the other members of the crew need assistance. Prime wonders if they were designed for more than repairing [[space bridge]]s. The two 'Bots transform into their vehicle modes and head out into the asteroid field.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_TheAllsparkdiscovered.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Well... at least there's no [[mass-shifting]]]]

Outside, [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]], dangling from a high rock by his wrecking ball (and becoming quite queasy in the process), is freed by [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]], who also ends up taking a tumble. Bumblebee complains about the sheer amount of rocks blocking the space bridge node, and one is shattered unexpectedly by [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]]'s throwing star. Prime gives his troops a speech about teamwork (which Prowl moans at theatrically), but at that point the space bridge lights up, sending rocks and Autobots flying. Fancy footwork by Optimus saves each of his teammates from the debris, and a well-aimed grappling line shuts down the bridge. With his subordinates stunned at their leader's skills, Prime is forced to admit he trained at [[Autobot Academy|Cybertron's military academy]]. Bumblebee's query as to what the hell he's doing on a nowhere maintenance assignment is left unanswered as they notice something glowing in the rubble.

Prime clears away the debris to reveal a large, chest-like object. Ratchet is horrified and immediately demands they throw it back into the space bridge, but an alert from [[Teletran 1]] announces the arrival of a signature consistent with the long-lost [[Decepticon]]s. Ratchet then insists they take the object and just get out of there post-haste.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Decepticonship.jpg|thumb|right|150px|Yes, this ''is'' a scout ship. Way to go, [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Magnanimous.]]]]

On board the ''[[Ark (Animated)|Ark]]'', Ratchet finally reveals what they've found: the [[All Spark (Animated)|All Spark]], the source of all Transformer life that was lost centuries ago. Optimus, worried about the oncoming Decepticon signal, contacts the [[Cybertron Elite Guard]] for help. After taking a bit of snark from [[Sentinel Prime (Animated)|Sentinel Prime]], Optimus reveals what they found, which shuts Sentinel up fast. Sentinel then puts the crew through to [[Ultra Magnus (Animated)|Ultra Magnus]], who tells Optimus Prime to stay put while they send reinforcements... and not to worry about that Decepticon thing. Optimus, considering this to be a really stupid move, orders the crew to start booking it out of there.

[[Image:Ani_crew.JPG|left|thumb|200px|Scotty, engage!]]

This proves wise, as the signal is indeed a Decepticon ship—a [[Nemesis (Animated)|command ship]], in fact. The identification markings are ones that Optimus and Ratchet recognize, meaning its commander can only be one person: [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]], leader of the Decepticons. On board the Decepticon ship, [[Starscream (Animated)|Starscream]] doubts the All Spark is aboard the ''Ark'' and declares Megatron a fool. [[Lugnut]] denounces Starscream as a traitor, while [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] calls Lugnut an idiot for his blind loyalty and [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]] just acts... well, crazy. The Decepticons continue to bicker at each other until Megatron enters, shutting up all of them. The Decepticons chase the Autobot ship, and Starscream volunteers to board them. Megatron quickly shoots that idea down. Just before he leaves, Starscream wishes his commander "luck" with a pat on the back... affixing a bomb to Megatron in the process.

Megatron makes his way to the ''Ark'' and begins to melt his way through its hull. Optimus uses external manipulator arms to grapple with Megatron, until the bomb detonates, sending the ship careening uncontrollably into a space bridge node, which explodes after they go through the gate. Starscream begins to make a speech declaring himself the new Decepticon leader, but the other three have abandoned ship, noting that the fireball from the space bridge explosion is only getting larger. Too late, Starscream realizes the trouble he's in...

An unknown distance away, the Autobot ship reappears above a [[Earth|small blue and green planet]]. Prime checks on his troops, but Megatron has gotten aboard, having survived the explosion, but at the cost of his right arm. Prime uses his grappling line to shut off the gravity, making it more difficult for Megatron to fight. All five Autobots face off against the Decepticon, but he's too strong. Prime and Megatron both end up in the storage bay where the All Spark is... and as the ship enters the atmosphere, Prime is able to blow the hatch and kick the screaming Megatron out of the ship.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Arkatmosphere.jpg|thumb|right|150px|[[Beast Wars, Part 1|Oddly familiar.]]]]

On a small farm, a young boy hears a thud and runs to where something has landed in a not-too-distant field. He is shocked to find a robotic head staring lifelessly up at him.

Meanwhile, Prime orders his team into emergency stasis pods to prepare for a crash-landing. He manages to steer the ship away from the city below and gets to a stasis pod just before the ship plunges into [[Lake Erie]].

Fifty years later, Detroit is a city of robots. [[Isaac Sumdac]] is talking to a public school class taking a tour of his facilities, which gets interrupted by Isaac's daughter, [[Sari Sumdac]], and her robot dog, [[Sparkplug (Animated)|Sparkplug]]. As Sari is carted off to her lessons by a [[Tutorbot|robot tutor]], Isaac shows the school kids a nanotech lab, just in time to witness a roach infused with microbots grow out of control and start consuming everything in sight. Isaac tries to keep things calm, but the monster bursts out of the lab...

===Part 2===
[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Firefighters_monster.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Yeah, watering it will surely stop the beast.]]

The monster continues to grow, absorbing just about everything it touches to increase its size and power. In the process, it destroys a lot of the factory. [[Captain Fanzone]], the S.W.A.T team, the fire department, ambulances, and robot drones arrive, but the creature absorbs several of the responding vehicles, too. Fanzone uses a bazooka-type weapon and destroys the beast, despite Sumdac's objection. This protest proves well-founded, as the remnants of the creature start flowing back together again, save for one piece that drops into the nearby lake and works its way down to the ''Ark'', its nanites seeking the absorbable technology there. It infiltrates via a small breach in the outer hull, but thankfully, the ship's intruder alert systems are functional and awaken the Autobots before any damage is done. Examining the situation, they decide to have Teletran 1 give them Earth forms so they can blend in and help out. Everyone deploys except Ratchet, who remains behind to analyze the sample of invading material.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Autobots.jpg|thumb|right|200px|[[Avengers]], ASSEMBLE!]]

During the fight, Bulkhead and Bumblebee spot Sari trying to wrest her security key from Sparkplug's mouth. Mistaking which is owner and which is pet, they approach her, but Bulkhead's greeting only scares her away. She quickly gets nabbed by the monster, but Bumblebee saves her, earning her trust and friendship. Prowl attempts to take on the bug-slug by himself, against Prime's orders, and gets absorbed. Prime orders Ratchet to join them in battle to save Prowl, but the old veteran insists that finding a "cure" code to neutralize the nanites' programming makes more sense than coming out and getting trashed. A somewhat chastened Prime agrees, and Ratchet soon delivers the goods. However, the new program must be uploaded by direct contact{{m-}}meaning from inside the monster. This means the smallest, fastest one of them has to do it. Bumblebee reluctantly takes on the task. The beast has been using some of Prowl's absorbed intelligence and comm link tech, though, so it knows what they're planning and is now smart enough to fight back. Despite this, Bumblebee succeeds in delivering the code, and the bug dissolves into a dusty shower of deactivated nanites. Prowl is soon uncovered, but he's suffered grave wounds and must be taken back to the ''Ark'' for repairs. Sari pesters Bumblebee to be taken along, and her new friend reluctantly agrees, since there's no time to make her go away quietly.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Sari_followedmehome.jpg|thumb|left|150px|Bumblebee, having a pet is a big responsibility.]]

Once on board, Sari's refusal to stay still and quiet causes 'Bee some embarrassment. He quickly and discreetly ejects her into a ventilation port and joins the others. However, the port opens onto a shaft that takes Sari right to the chamber where the All Spark is being kept. Curious, she touches it, and it reacts to her, sending its energies into her security card key and reconfiguring it into a key of another sort entirely. Prime finds her almost immediately thereafter, but with no time left to spare away from Prowl, he has to bring her back with him to the repair table. Ratchet's prognosis is bleak, but Sari's All Spark-charged key abruptly reacts, glowing and tugging her toward Prowl. Bumblebee, seeming to grasp what's happening, helps her onto the table, and as she approaches, her key reshapes itself to fit into a slot on Prowl's chest. She inserts it, and with a burst of energy, the Autobot ninja is whole again. The Autobots then take Sari home and, after a brief misunderstanding, are made heroes and are even invited to a ceremony.

In outer space, Starscream sits aboard the damaged but functional Decepticon ship, babbling that he will find the All Spark, even though he's been attempting it on his own for the last fifty solar cycles. The ship's computers then detect the traces of All Spark-like energy in action, and Starscream learns where the Autobots are...

===Part 3===
[[Image:Sariprime.jpg|right|thumb|150px|INSERT WHAT WHERE?!]]

The Autobots are later seen trying to fit in. Bulkhead gets firsthand experience in traffic jams, some birds mistake Prowl for the statue of the [[wikipedia:Hazen S. Pingree|bald guy]] next to him, Bumblebee learns how organics fuel up, and Ratchet can't get a stasis nap without getting a dozen or so parking tickets. Optimus Prime remarks that the Autobots are programmed to respect life, which they always understood to stem from the All Spark, but as organics are life, they must respect and protect them too. Optimus also expresses curiosity about how little organics are made. Sari's whispered explanation leaves him rather... shocked. The Autobots make a new home base out of a building Sari's dad got out of a merger, an abandoned auto factory that Bumblebee describes as a real fixer-upper{{m-}}a REAL fixer-upper. All of a sudden, they get alerted to a fire. The Autobots proceed to douse the blaze and save its victims, no problem, unaware they are being watched by Starscream.

The next day, during the inauguration ceremony for the Sumdac Fully Automated Rapid Transit System (F.A.R.T.S., for short), Starscream enters Earth's atmosphere and takes on a group of fighter jets. He destroys all but one, which he scans. As the civilians and Autobots watch the aerial display of the Crimson Angels, Isaac Sumdac notices there is an extra jet present that he didn't hire. That one jet then leaves the formation and streaks toward the ceremony platform, where it transforms into Starscream, who fires his null-ray cannons at the Autobots.

After a short fight, which the Autobots lose, Starscream knocks out Bumblebee and takes him, Isaac, the mayor, and Capt. Fanzone hostage in the F.A.R.T.S. train, flying it to the top of a very tall tower. He demands that the Autobots deliver the All Spark if they want him to release the train car. The Autobots don't trust him, but don't want to risk human lives, so Sari offers a plan, but they ignore her. She continues to tell a sob story until the Autobots listen. The Autobots proceed with her plan, and Prowl and Sari fly up to the transit pod to rescue the hostages while the other Autobots keep Starscream busy. Once Starscream realizes what's happening, he takes a brief beating but recovers quickly. Starscream then throws the train{{m-}}thus keeping his end of the deal{{m-}}with Sari, Prowl, and Bumblebee on top of/in it. Between Bumblebee's agility and Prowl's thrusters, Sari is rescued and the train lands without much damage. The Autobots then challenge Starscream to a friendly game of Keep Away, during which Starscream almost gets the All Spark, but Bulkhead gets it instead, because he said he got it. A furious Starscream unleashes a devastating, prolonged (as in nearly 12 seconds) null-ray blast on the Autobots, briefly knocking them all senseless.

[[Image:TFA_TFandRollout_Prime_SS_Allsparkactivates.jpg|thumb|left|150px|In the old days, [[Stan Bush|The Touch]] would have started playing now.]]

With the Autobots down, Starscream takes the All Spark from Optimus and blows a couple of blocks of Detroit right off the map. Not ready to give up, Optimus climbs all the way up a building to get it back from Starscream. After a quick back-and-forth exchange of possessing it, both grab it at the same time. As they struggle, the All Spark opens and emits a strange energy wave that blasts Starscream away.

The explosion has left Prime dangling precariously, and he takes a tremendous plummet to the pavement. He notes weakly that he now knows what it feels like to be a hero, then dies, but Sari uses her All Spark key to revive him.<ref>This is something of an Optimus Prime record: Dead after only three episodes, revived a mere 75 seconds later. Way to go.</ref> The Autobots later go about fixing up Detroit, earning the enduring gratitude of the citizenry. Professor Sumdac is also grateful, for the Autobots saved him and Sari, but he fears what will happen if the Autobots—not to mention the rest of the world{{m-}}were to discover the source of his robotic empire.

Unseen by Sumdac, one of the [[Sensors#Optics|optics]] of his source of technology glows in a darkened room. Megatron still functions...
==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* As Starscream tackles Optimus Prime through a building as the Autobot tries to escape with the All Spark, Optimus' axe is missing from Starscream's left wing. It reappears moments later for Optimus to retrieve it.

===Continuity errors===
* The train Starscream blasts from the tower falls toward the ground very, very slowly.

*In at least one scene, Starscream's Earth-form wing is shown with a spike, in the same manner as his Cybertronian body.

*Sumdac is using Megatron's hand as a chair. However, he seems to be using the right hand, which was blown up by Starscream. (It ''could'' have fallen off the ''Ark'', as it was still clinging to the hull when last seen, but that seems unlikely.)

===Transformers references===
*The title of the episode itself is a [[Roll out|reference to Transformers lore past]].
*Footage from the [[Generation 1 (cartoon)|G1 cartoon]] episodes "[[War Dawn]]" and "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" is used as history tapes detailing the events of the first Great War, millions of years prior. [[Canon|This]] presents a major [[continuity]] tangle, since the actual events of ancient G1 are quite different from the new All Spark-based [[retcon]] provided by the ''Animated'' storyline. While it is reasonable to expect that the images depicted in the historical reel did indeed "happen" in ''Animated''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s past, one ought not assume that all the implications behind G1 prehistory images (i.e. [[Quintesson]]s, [[Alpha Trion]], the [[Kronosphere]]) are still in effect for ''Animated''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s past or present. Savvy?

*Sari's robotic dog [[Sparkplug (Animated)|Sparkplug]] is likely named after either [[Sparkplug Witwicky]] from G1, the Armada Mini-Con [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]], or both.
[[Image:Spikecarlydanielanimated.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Twenty years later, and they're still overdressed.]]
*Characters resembling [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]], [[Carly]], and [[Daniel Witwicky]] are seen at a hot dog stand, purchasing some sort of futuristic bunless wieners-on-a-stick.

*The ''Animated'' Autobots are [[Infiltration|not the first]] to use a starship parked at the bottom of one of the Great Lakes as their headquarters.

*When Optimus Prime dies, his body fades to grays, just as [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Generation 1 Optimus Prime]] did in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''. His spark chamber opens in much the same manner as well.

*The baby carriage carriing the [[Soviet_Union|baby with the russian hat]] bears some resemblance to [[Wheelie]].

*Teletran 1 (spelled with only one "a" in this universe) dispatches a small satellite very similar to the [[Sky Spy]] satellite used on occasion by the Autobots in the ''Generation 1'' cartoon. The glowing energy "boxes" with which it scans vehicles for the Autobots to transform into are lifted wholesale out of "[[More Than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]".

===Miscellaneous trivia===
*A refurbished Michigan Central Station makes an appearance as the site for the dedication of Detroit's rapid transit system. The real-life station (abandoned since the '80s) was featured in the [[Transformers (2007)|2007 live-action movie]].
*When Prowl gets birdpooped on, he is standing next to a statue of [[wikipedia:Hazen S. Pingree|Hazen S. Pingree]], four-term mayor of Detroit and one-time governor of Michigan. In real life, the statue is located in Detroit's Grand Circus Park.
*When Optimus comes back to life, he asks, "Is this the Well of All Sparks?" and Sari answers, "No, it's Detroit." This is an allusion to the movie ''Field of Dreams'' when Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) asks Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) "Is this heaven?" and Ray answers "No, it's Iowa."

==Detailed synopsis==
===Part 1===

===Part 2===

===Part 3===

==Other notes==
===Animation and/or technical glitches===
* As Starscream tackles Optimus Prime through a building as the Autobot tries to escape with the All Spark, Optimus' axe is missing from Starscream's left wing. It reappears moments later for Optimus to retrieve it.

===Continuity errors===

===Transformers references===

===Miscellaneous trivia===
*In this episode, [[Tutor Bot]] tries to teach Sari about the Smoot-Hawley Tariff.
'''Megatron's latest scheme involves using the most powerful computer on Earth to control machinery remotely.'''

==Detailed synopsis==
[[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] (the former disguised in a guitar case!) not-so-silently infiltrate [[Quantum Laboratories]], a top-secret facility where the world’s most powerful computer, [[TORQ III]], is housed. Megatron reprograms the computer with his own personality and gives it the power to control remotely dangerous machines of all types through the use of "[[Remote Control Circuit Linker]] cards."

At the same time, scientist Dr. [[Paul Gates]] of Quantum Labs muses with a colleague about the dangers of machine sentience and that, in the wrong hands, TORQ III might be too powerful. Since Fate is both cruel and timely, the very scenario they were discussing comes true when TORQ III locks them in their office and announces that he’s taking over.

Megatron is using TORQ and the circuit linker cards to remotely control fleets of oil tankers. This alerts [[Teletraan 1]], who notifies [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. Prime then receives Dr. Gates’ distress signal; Gates fills him in on TORQ III’s rebellion and asks to be rescued.

[[Hound (G1)|Hound]] and [[Skyfire (G1)|Skyfire]] are assigned to investigate the tankers, and [[Spike Witwicky|Spike]] tags along. Prime leads a group to Quantum Labs, where they immediately come under attack by machines controlled by TORQ. Overwhelmed, Prime orders in the [[Dinobots (G1)|Dinobots]] (minus [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]]) to come help, and they smash, chomp and melt down all of the machines. [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] makes his usual pompous comment about having to save Prime’s bacon when things get rough. Afterward, Prime rescues Dr. Gates and they advance toward the buildings, meeting lots of resistance from TORQ’s machines.

Meanwhile, Hound, Spike and Skyfire sneak aboard an oil tanker and infiltrate the [[Decepticon]]s' oil platform. Their attack falls short when Spike is captured and they are forced to surrender.

After smashing more remote-controlled machines at Quantum, Prime decides to explore inside TORQ’s maze-like complex alone. As Optimus moves in closer, one of the machines places a circuit linker card on him, making him Torq’s slave, and he is brought into the computer’s domain. But{{m-}}surprise, surprise{{m-}} Prime rips the card off his body, saying it was a dud he placed in the robot’s claw, and he disables TORQ with a well-placed punch to the control panel.

Back at the oil platform, Spike has hatched an idea to use an electromagnet (which happened to be in their cell) to immobilize [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]. Skyfire easily smashes through the cell door and Hound disables the force dome that was protecting the platform. The rest of the Autobots arrive and a battle ensues. Prime faces down Megatron and manages to wrest a remote control device from his hands, then tosses it back to him. Megatron lands on it, crushing it, and comes back up spitting mad. He retaliates by activating the self-destruct mechanism on the platform.

The [[Autobots]] escape, but Prime stays behind to find Hound, Skyfire and Spike. He rips apart the platform deck, revealing the missing team members, and Skyfire flies them out of danger.

Finally, Prime says goodbye to Dr. Gates, who makes a parting comment about machines being unreliable, and then quickly retracts the statement when he realizes his gaff. The Autobots laugh at the ungrateful human's hubris.
'''Megatron's latest scheme involves using the most powerful computer on Earth to control machinery remotely.'''

==Detailed synopsis==

[[Image:Neutro-fusiontank.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Alive! Alive! Alive!]]

'''Action Masters''' are Transformers that traded in their ability to transform to become harder, better, faster, stronger and more alive. As the [[Autobot]]/[[Decepticon]] war drained more and more of their resources, a new source of fueling, [[Nucleon]], was discovered which would grant Transformers amazing power, but at a cost. To compensate for their lost ability to transform, the Action Masters built transforming partners and (massive) vehicles to aid them in battle.

A few Action Masters managed to retain (or possibly regain) the ability to transform; they are known as [[Action Master Elite]]s.

== Fiction ==
=== Toy packaging blurb ===
According to the toy packaging [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] went searching for new energy sources and, within the heart of a [[black hole]] discovered Nucleon: a miracle fuel that made Transformers stronger, faster, and more alive, but cost them the ability to transform. Soon the Decepticons stole the technology and created Action Masters of their own.

This story was later referenced with the Japanese release of Nucleon Quest Convoy, a black repaint of Powermaster Optimus Prime who was given the backstory of being Prime specially outfitted for this trip into the black hole.

=== Marvel Comics continuity ===
[[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] heard rumors of a new miracle fuel on the planet [[Hydrus Four]]. Against orders he stole the non-functioning bodies of his fellow [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] and headed there to find out. What he descovered was a ruined world filled with creepy, obsessive, rotting zombie-like beings warning him that it was all because of Nucleon. Being Grimlock, he then went ahead and used the fuel anyway, first on himself then to revive his fallen teammates.

Grimlock soon found parts of his body inexplicably seizing up, and began to fear that he should have listened to the creepy dying robots after all. After returning to the Ark Grimlock used the Nucleon to repair all the damaged Autobots in the ship's medical bay (as well as Megatron, whom he didn't know was there). Following the Transformers battle with [[Unicron]] Grimlock froze-up entirely. It was then that [[Hi-Q]] (in the process of merging with Optimus Prime) saw with "[[Powermaster]] eyes" that Grimlock wasn't malfunctioning, but changing. He used his Powermaster abillities to speed-up the process and Grimlock burst forth in his new, more-powerful Action Master form.

Meanwhile, HiQ's own mental merger with Prime was also accelerated by his contact with Nucleon. Soon afterward, the Last Autobot re-created HiQ as Optimus Prime, looking very much like his Action Master toy and never being seen to transform. However, while Grimlock explicitly said that his own transformational abilities had been lost, there was no such statement for Prime. So while the involvement of Nucleon and Prime's general appearance suggest that he had become an Action Master too, the uniqueness of his re-creation makes things less certain.

:''('''Note''': Other Action Master toys were represented in the comics, but not having been changed by Nucleon, they are likely not actual Action Masters. [[Simon Furman]] has commented that if the comic book had continued we would have seen other Transformers become Action Masters, and we also would have seen a follow up to the hints that Nucleon affects everyone differently, with some Transformers being affected by it in various alternate ways.)''

=== ''Timelines Classics'' comic ===

As in [[Generation 2 (Marvel Comics)|other fiction]], neither Grimlock nor Prime kept their Action Master bodies for long. However, [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] ''is'' seen as an Action Master (and his partner [[Tyrannitron]] even gets a mention). Given Snarl's hatred of his own dinosaur mode, his remaining an Action Master was likely a matter of taste.

=== Japanese continuity ===
Optimus, and Megatron's pre-G2 bodies share a striking similarity to their Action-Master toys. Likewise Optimus Prime has been documented as searching out a New Energy source called Nucleon that's located within a black hole. Finally, Optimus Prime's Actionmaster was sold with New Years Convoy, and described as the intermediate form between Prime's various G2 Bodies.

==Fandom reception==
{{quote|I DEFINITELY like my transformers to transform. Down with the action masters.|Posted to alt.toys.transformers by Josh Freeman Frankel, 02-25-1994 [http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/4ed4b0a1a761bcd7]}}

The Action Master toyline, depicting the obvious oxymoron of "Transformers who don't transform," generated initial ire from some fans ("BLASPHEMY!"). This was magnified as Action Masters were released in the final year of the original Transformers toyline in the US. When Transformers was summarily cancelled in North America, some fans blamed the gimmick for the death of the franchise (despite the wide variety of other factors that doubtlessly were involved).

One aspect Action Masters is notable for, however, is the mass reintroduction of "classic" characters. New toys for old characters was not a theme the original toyline visited very often, and so to have a single subline with so many recurring favorites was, at the time, a novelty. In addition, the classic characters were designed to more closely resemble their cartoon counterparts. For much of the Season 1 and 2 cast, the original figures having been designed years before they were stylized and simplified for the cartoon, these Action Masters were the closest likenesses of their fiction representatons ever.

As with many other changes to the Transformers brand, initial hostility towards Action Masters from the fandom eventually became less intense, and diversified into a broad range of opinion. Many of the most in-demand vintage (and therefore expensive) ''Transformers'' toys are Action Masters, and new characters from this subgroup are still harkened back to in newer toylines. For example, [[Axer]] shows up in the [[Robots in Disguise]] toyline, ''[[Armada]]'' [[Overload (Armada)|Overload]] has design elements based on [[Rollout (G1)|Rollout]], and ''[[Cybertron]]'' [[Smokescreen (Cybertron)|Smokescreen]]'s colors are a partial homage to [[Rad (G1)|Rad]].
Metroplex was constructed as part of the Autobots' "[[Scramble City]]" initiative to develop a powerful battle station. During the early stages of the project, however, when the Autobots were conducting an outdoor test of the unfinished city's transformation to mobile fortress mode, [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] and [[Reflector]] were able to monitor the process. The information they acquired allowed Megatron to decipher whether or not Metroplex could stand up to Trypticon, who was first activated on a small island, but was duped into falling into the ocean by a giant hologram of robot-mode Metroplex by [[Hound (G1)|Hound]].

====''Scramble City'' OVA====

To complete the Scramble City project, the Autobots moved their operation to a secret underground cavern, but the Decepticons' [[Mini-Cassette|spy cassettes]] located the subterranean base, and an all-out Decepticon attack was initiated. The Decepticon [[combiner]]s dominated the fight, but the completed Metroplex was then launched and defeated them with one blast. However, as the Autobots celebrated their victory, the ocean nearby parted and Trypticon emerged for his first battle with Metroplex.
By 2005, Metroplex had been installed as a sub-section of the larger [[Autobot City]], now the main base of operations for the Autobots on [[Earth]]. During the Decepticons' attack on the city, the [[Transformation Cog|transforming cog]] which allowed Metroplex to transform to robot mode was destroyed, preventing him from participating in the battle, {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}} although he was manually converted to battle station mode by the Autobots inhabiting him. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie}}

Following the defeat of [[Unicron]] and the Autobots' reclamation of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] built a new cog, and entrusted its delivery to [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] and [[Wheelie]]. {{storylink|Five Face of Darkness, Part 1}} While they were busy suffering numerous setbacks (including nearly getting killed by [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and being stranded on Jupiter's moon Io), the immobile Metroplex was attacked by Trypticon, and was again manually transformed to battle station by his inhabitants in hopes of mounting some form of a defence. In the midst of the battle, the cog was safely delivered and installed by [[Pipes]] within Metroplex, who promptly transformed to robot mode, thrashed Trypticon, and hurled him into the ocean. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5}}

Although the Autobots figured this to be the end of Trypticon, in actuality, the saurian city survived and started stealing national monuments to pay off [[Octane]]'s debt to [[Abdul Fakkadi]]. When [[dinosaur transform static]] was found at the crime scene, Metroplex and his subordinates questioned all the Autobots with dinosaur electrons in their circuits, but when Trypticon was finally revealed to be the culrpit, Metroplex battled him in Russia over the Kremlin. Unfortunately, Metroplex was then left holding the building, and the [[Soviet Union|Soviets]] blamed the Autobots for the thefts and expelled them from the country. Fakkadi, however, summoned the Autobots to his country of [[Carbombya]] to help oust the Decepticons that had taken over, and Metroplex delivered another sound defeat to Trypticon, tossing him into the ocean yet again and returning the stolen buildings to their rightful place. {{storylink|Thief in the Night}}

As part of his deal with Unicron to ensure their mutual resurrection, the ghost of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] possessed [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and invaded Metroplex, stealing the giant robot's optical units. Metroplex transformed to robot mode in the midst of the attack, and, discovering that he was blind, went into a maddened rage, firing upon all the Transformers in the vicinity before a photon charge placed in his head by Scourge detonated, knocking him out. After the villains' plan was foiled, new eyes were constructed for Metroplex. {{storylink|Ghost in the Machine}}

After coming under attack from a [[Eurhythma]]n sonic weapon, {{storylink|Carnage in C-Minor}}, transforming cog troubles returned to plague Metroplex when [[Swindle (G1)|Swindle]] stole the component right out from under [[First Aid]]'s nose. With Metroplex trapped in city mode, the Autobots retaliated by stealing Trypticon's cog and using it as a replacement; the Decepticons proceeded to use Metroplex's cog in place of Trypticon's, but the incompatability of the cogs in each of the giant robots led to an unsteady battle with both combatants partially transforming back and forth constantly. First Aid proceeded to enter Metroplex's body during the fight and aligned the cog properly, allowing Metroplex to fully transform and, yet ''again'', fling Trypticon into a body of water. {{storylink|The Ultimate Weapon}}

When the [[Hate Plague]] swept the universe, [[Rodimus Prime]] realized the danger that an infected Metroplex would pose, and reluctantly decided to deactivate him. Metroplex understood and agreed with his decision - it was not made clear is this action was temporary, or if it would permanently send Metroplex off-line. {{storylink|The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1}}

''('''Note:''' Metroplex's relationship to Autobot City in the film and ''FFoD'' is ropey at best. He is not actually mentioned in the movie, and ''FFoD'' uses the terms "Autobot City" and "Metroplex" interchangeably, suggesting they are the same thing. This is somewhat supported by the appearance of elements of Metroplex's design appearing as part of the city in the movie, including its shift from orange to white as it transforms, and a turret that is quite blatantly [[Slammer]]. Designer [[Floro Dery]] has described how he created his own design for Autobot City, but was then instructed to add elements of the Metroplex toy to it - presumably, this is what caused the confusion, which was eventually straightened out when an establishing shot of Autobot City in ''[[Thief in the Night]]'' clearly presented Metroplex to be a smaller sub-section of the city.)''

: Metroplex transforms from a large robot to a multi-leveled "city" mainly for use with the smaller ''Generation 1'' toys. This mode includes a service bay with launching mechanism, a helipad, and "parking" for six vehicles in whatever his legs fold out to be. He also has a third mobile battle station mode; a more compact wheeled form that incorporates his many weapons. Additionally, his weapons are all moulded with universal-sized pegs that allow them to attached in several different configurations and locations (for example, in the otherwise-pointless holes in his kneecaps in city mode). Metroplex came with [[Six-Gun]], [[Slammer]], and [[Scamper]]; the first two formed various parts of Metroplex's alternate modes.

:Metroplex was apparently designed as part of the aborted [[Diaclone]] line, ''Jizai Gattai'' ("Free Combination"), given the high degree of interactivity he has with other toys confirmed as part of it - namely, the [[Aerialbot]]s, [[Stunticon]]s, [[Protectobot]]s and [[Combaticon]]s. Each of the smaller "limb" robot from these four groups (and those that came after using their basic design, like the [[Technobot]]s, [[Terrorcon (G1)|Terrorcons]] and [[Seacon]]s) can plug into ports in Metroplex's shoulders and knees in robot mode, while the base modes of the four leaders - [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]], [[Hot Spot (G1)|Hot Spot]], [[Motormaster]], and [[Onslaught]] - can connect to him in city mode. While the former feature was included in the Hasbro instructions, the latter was omitted. The peg-size of Metroplex's weapons also allows them to be wielded by the leaders and super-robots these teams create.

: As a third-year piece, Metroplex was one of several items to undergo "materials changing". Initial versions of Metroplex used rubber tires, and the fronts of his upper legs were fully-chromed silver. After a time, though, the tires were replaced with single-piece hard-plastic tires, and his legs changed to white plastic with a silver factory-applied sticker at the top. However, the plastic tire version also possessed a waist reinforced with two screw points instead of one, in an effort to prevent Metroplex literally snapping in half as so many of the original versions did due to a weak spot on the waist.

: This mold was also used to make [[Metrotitan]].
For generations, Optimus Prime ruled [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] side-by-side with [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]. The two personalities created a balance; Prime was fair while Megatron was firm. However, when Megatron revealed his intentions to steal the [[All Spark]] and use it for evil, selfish gain, Prime reacted accordingly. He built a militia from the civilians around him, but they faired terribly against Megatron's armies. Ultimately, Prime was forced to eject the All Spark into space to keep it from his nemesis.

Thus the focus of the war between Autobot and Decepticon shifted. The All Spark's ejection was only a stall. No longer did Prime have to keep Megatron from stealing the All Spark, instead Prime and his Autobots must hunt down the All Spark, wherever in the universe it landed, before Megatron could. {{storylink|Prime Directives}}
===Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday prequel novel===
Optimus Prime lead the search for the All Spark in the ''[[Ark (Movie)|Ark]]'', a transport vessel. When they came across an abandoned solar system, they located [[Ghost One|a vessel]] of strangely Cybertronian design, and of Decepticon make. When the vessel fled to the surface of a planet, Prime dispatched Bumblebee to investigate, while he and the Autobots battled the Decepticons from the ''[[Nemesis (Movie)|Nemesis]]''. After losing touch with Bumblebee, Prime went down to locate him, where they were attacked by [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] and the alien ship. They fell into a cavern network, where they were further attacked by [[sandworm|indigenous worms]].

Coming across the alien vessel, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee communicated with its crew. Optimus explained that they came in peace, "freedom is the right of all sentient beings", Starscream tricks everyone, and so on. However, the creatures, who called themselves "[[human]]s", explained that they held Megatron, who they called the Ice Man, on their homeworld, [[Earth]]. Realizing the destruction Megatron would wreak upon the humans if he escaped, and that the humans would be unable to effectively defend themselves, Prime vowed to see them return to their world to warn it. In the ensuing battle with the Decepticons, the humans saved Prime's life by attacking Starscream, who destroyed them. Optimus Prime was inspired by their courage and sacrifice, and resolved to locate Earth before the Decepticons did—and hopefully before Megatron came back online.
[[Image:Movie_OptimusPrime_protoform.jpg|right|thumb|200px|There have been worse crashes]]

The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime came to Earth shortly after [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] sent his comrades a beacon. Upon atmospheric reentry, Prime managed to land outside of [[Tranquility]]'s inhabited areas. After scanning the form of an Earth truck and reconfiguring his body to transform into it, Prime, [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]], and [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] met up with Bumblebee and his human friends, [[Sam Witwicky]] and [[Mikaela Banes]] in an alley. In one of the most extended Transformations in the multiverse, Prime assumed his robotic form before the stunned humans, he introduced himself, his team, and why Sam was important to their search for the [[All Spark]].

Glasses that belonged to Sam's ancestor, [[Archibald Amundsen Witwicky|Captain Archibald Witwicky]], contain the location of the All Spark encoded across its lenses, so Optimus Prime ordered his troops to wait outside Sam's house while Sam and Mikaela searched inside for the glasses. Much to Sam's exasperation, Optimus Prime, in his impatience, clumsily ruined his parents' garden, and the Autobots' heavy footsteps convinced them there was an earthquake. Prime's attempts to hide, such as having the Autobots transform into vehicle mode, were also less than satisfactory. Ultimately, Prime was forced to oder the Autobots to fall back, but Ratchet got himself shocked in the process. When [[Ron Witwicky|the]] [[Judy Witwicky|parents]] came to investigate, Prime's attempt to avoid discovery caused the house to shake. Ironhide suggested that they kill the parents, but Optimus scolded his old friend. Despite all this, their presence remained undetected until [[Sector Seven]] arrived (in a convoy of GMC Yukon's) and abducted Sam, Mikaela, and Sam's parents.

[[Image:Movie_PrimeSam_parentsfreakout.jpg|left|thumb|250px|At least Prime didn't throw a rock at your window.]]

Optimus Prime sent the Autobots in pursuit of the SUV that contained Sam, Mikaela, and Sector Seven's director, [[Reggie Simmons|Agent Simmons]]. Prime intercepted the vehicle carrying their young human friends, ripping the roof of the vehicle off, with the other Autobots disarming the agents, and Optimus attempted to interrogate Simmons. The agents lack of surprise at their appearance indicated that they had seen Cybertronians before, but Simmons refused to reveal any information. With a Sector Seven backup team en route, Prime ordered the Autobots to scatter, while he took Sam and Mikaela. While hiding under a bridge, Mikaela and Sam slipped and fell off Prime's shoulder. Bumblebee managed to catch them before impact, but was captured, and Sam and Mikaela recaptured, by the organization after their retreat.

Optimus Prime, now in possession of the glasses which can tell him the location of the All Spark, regrettably leaves Bumblebee in Sector Seven's hands, knowing that if they went after him, they would have to use deadly force. After regrouping the next day, Prime used the glasses to locate the All Spark. Jazz raised objections to leaving Bumblebee behind, but Prime remained firm in his belief of not harming the humans. Ironhide seemed okay with using deadly force, stating the humans were too violent, but Prime remind him of the Cybertronians [[Cybertronian Civil Wars|own violent history]]. Going to explain the potential he saw in the humans, as well as reminding them that "freedom is the right of all sentient beings", Prime revealed to the Autobots his real plan for the All Spark: if they could not defeat the Decepticons, Prime intended to merge the Cube with his [[spark]]. Though this would destroy the All Spark, Ratchet cautioned Prime against this, as it would also kill him, but Prime had made his decision. The glasses placed the All Spark at [[Hoover Dam]] where, luckily, Bumblebee and the young humans were taken.

Optimus Prime's team met up with Sector Seven, Bumblebee, Sam, and Mikaela en route, who had planned to hide the All Spark in nearby [[Mission City]]. While on the highway, he was attacked by [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]], who managed to tackle Optimus and drag him over the edge of a freeway overpass. During the battle, Optimus struck the hate filled Transformer so hard his [[optic]] popped out. As the Decepticon swung his claw wildly, Optimus drew his sword from his right arm and sliced off one of Bonecrusher's arms, before brutally finishing off his enemy by driving the blade through Bonecrusher's neck, severing his head.

[[Image:Movie_OptimusPrime_citytransformjump.jpg|left|thumb|175px|And in the red corner, weighing in at...a lot, THE TRUCKER!]]

Optimus arrived at Mission City just in time to observe Megatron discarding the remains of [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]]. Millennia in the ice had done nothing to lessen Megatron's hatred of his brother, and he launch himself in jet mode at the Autobot leader. Optimus leaped and grabbed hold of the wings, which was a really bad idea as Megatron drove himself and Prime through an office block. As the flew out of the building on the street below, Megatron Transformed and lept on top of Prime, declaring the humans undeserving of life. Prime rejected his claims, saying that they deserved to chose for themsleves. Megatron threw Prime across the street, declaring that hhe wished to defend the humans, Prime could die with them, forming his [[fusion cannon]]. The power up time allowed Prime draw his [[ion blaster]], hitting Megatron, but the Decepticon used the momentum to spin around, then use the fusion cannon to blast Prime across the street into another building, allowing Megatron to resume the hunt for Sam.

Tracking Megatron to the deserted building, Prime barely managed to grab Sam after Megatron knocked him off. Telling the boy to hold onto the Cube, Prime attempted to scale down the building, but Megatron jumped on Prime, causing them both to fall down hard onto the street below. Sam survived, however, and Optimus told the boy that if he could not defeat Megatron, Sam must put the All Spark into his chest which would destroy it. As Sam sought cover, Optimus faced down Megatron, and informed him that "at the end of this day, one shall stand, one shall fall". Unfortunately, Megatron, even after years of stasis, proved to be far too powerful for Prime to defeat alone. The unit led by Lennox and the Raptor squadron laid down suppressing fire as Megatron reached for the All Spark, until Optimus finally took him down by sweeping his legs. Still, Megatron continued, crawling toward the cube. Believing he had lost, Optimus implored to Sam to put the All Spark into his chest. Sam instead thrust it into Megatron's chest, eventually killing the Decepticon leader and destroying the All Spark.

[[Image:Movie_Prime_Jazz_Ironhide_Ratchet_battleaftermath.jpg|thumb|right|250px|"We lost a great comrade today, we'll miss you, Blues." "His name was ''Jazz'', Prime." "Whatever."]]

As Optimus watched his brother die, he regretfully said there was little other choice. He also told Sam he owed him a debt of gratitude for saving his life, but was then informed that Jazz had not survived. Prime briefly eulogized his comrade, then commented that they had gained new comrades in the humans, and was honored by their bravery. Bumblebee, who had finally regained his voice, requested permission to remain with Sam Witwicky, to which the young human eagerly agreed, and Optimus approved. He noticed a fragment of the All Spark in Megatron's chest cavity and removed it, then permitted the humans to dispose of the Decepticon corpses by dumping them into the deepest part of the ocean.

Though Megatron was killed and his Decepticons were defeated, the All Spark was destroyed, leaving the Autobots unable to restore Cybertron. The Autobots elected to remain on Earth, and Prime sent a message to any surviving Autobots in the Galaxy to come to their new home on Earth, the search having finally having come to an end. As the other Autobots rested (and watched Sam and Mikaela make out) Optimus Prime looked to the sky, hoping his message had been heard.

'''Note:''' ''The comic book adaptation depicts Prime also defeating [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]] during the highway altercation with Bonecrusher.''
===''Transformers'' The Game===
:''Voice actor:'' [[Peter Cullen]]

Optimus Prime provides intelligence and missions to Bumblebee in his search for the All Spark. Eventually, the clues lead the Autobot to Sam Witwicky. After saving Sam from Barricade, Bumblebee finally completes preparations for the Autobots to arrive on Earth.

Once on Earth, and having informed the two teenagers of their mission, Prime and the Autobots are discovered by Sector 7. Optimus sends Jazz on a high-speed <strike>destruction</strike> distraction mission, then sends Ironhide to rescue Jazz from a double-threat posed by the government agents and various Decepticon scouts.

When Bumblebee is captured, Prime transforms and chases the chopper which from which the small Autobot is tied. After a lengthy chase, Prime manages to catch the net, only to be thrown off by another Cybertronian meteor. As Bumblebee is carried away, Optimus promises he will not fail him again. Jazz informs him that the meteor is not an Autobot. Prime confronts the new threat, who turns out to be the Decepticon triplechanger [[Shockwave (Movie)|Shockwave]]. The two battle it out across [[Tranquility]] before Optimus finally destroys him. But not without overhearing [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]]'s transmission revealing the location of the All Spark.

Optimus then returned to an intel role as he guided Bumblebee in his mission to retrieve the All Spark from Hoover dam. Unfortunately, the Decepticons manage to free Megatron, leading to the final battle in Mission City.

As the Autobots battle it out with the Decepticons to protect Sam and the All Spark, things seem to take a turn for the worst as Megatron finally arrives. But before he can claim the cube, Optimus attacks him.

The two battle it out until Megatron is finally on the ground, seemingly devoid of life. Optimus then kneels to take the All Spark from Sam. Megatron however awakens, leaping at Optimus with his chain-flail out. Optimus grips the chain, pulling Megatron in closer, and with the All Spark clutched in his fist, delivers a punch through Megatron's spark. As Megatron dies, Optimus reflects on the losses and rewards of this battle, as the Autobots have a new home. Optimus plans to guard the humans in secret, "For freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

Note: If played in Decepticon mode, Optimus is beaten to the ground, and as he crawls for the All Spark, Megatron smashes his head with his flail before using the cube to destroy humanity.
*'''Protoform Optimus Prime''' (Deluxe, 2007)
:''Japanese ID number:'' '''MA-05'''

[[Image:Movie_ProtoformOptimusPrime_toy.jpg|left|300px|thumb|Spaaaaaaace speeeeeerrrrm!]]

:Based upon the 'Protoform' (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his 'Entry' mode cybertronic comet thing. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides, and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits to the back of the 'vehicle', creating the illusion of a flaming comet's tail. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO [[automorph]] gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have.

:In robot mode he resembles previous Optimus characters - his angular chest windows are reminiscent of ''[[Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], while his near animalistic limbs and color scheme are evocative of ''[[Beast Wars]]'' [[Optimus Primal]]. He has excellent articulation due to his many ball joints, and is armed with a rifle. The flame attachment can fit onto the end of the (non-firing) gun barrel.

:Some packaging variants of this figure (perhaps a Wal-Mart exclusive) included a free movie poster depicting a Cybertronian eye overlooking Earth. While an added sticker to the outer plastic bubble says "Exclusive movie poster!", it is more of a preview of upcoming figures.

:This mold was also [[redeco]]ed into a Japanese-exclusive "Fusion Cluster" version, using orange paint and translucent plastic to mimic the effects of atmospheric entry.

*'''Optimus Prime''' (Leader, 2007)
:''Japanese ID number:'' '''MA-01'''

[[Image:MovieLeader_OptimusPrime_toy.jpg|right|thumb|350px| Y'think Prime got a makeover? We have it on good authority that Movie [[Roller]] is a kicked-out low-rider with a jammin' sound system and neon-purple undercarriage lighting. ]]

: The largest ''Movie'' Optimus Prime toy, Leader Class Optimus Prime features the most accurate representation yet of the CGI designs' complex transformation sequence, the only difference being the arms which are placed behind the cab while they constitute the hood in the CGI model. He transforms into a heavily-customized [http://www.peterbilt.com/index_gal_mod_desc.asp?model=model379 Peterbilt 379] conventional extended-hood truck, and unusual for a mainline figure, he has rubber tires on all his wheels. His Ion Blaster weapon is stored in the rear of the truck's bunk, exposed like an engine block. Though Optimus has no trailer, he has hole where the fifth wheel (known among fans as a 'hitch') is sculpted in the rear of the truck, should owners find a suitable trailer to use. Due to [[For safety reasons|safety reasons]], the tips of his long smokestacks are made of a soft, flexible material. A switch on top of the cab roof activates horn sounds and window lights.

: Featuring a complex transformation, essentially the front and back ends of the truck fold and converge to become Optimus Prime's legs, as much of the truck rear is connected to the robot thighs via a series of folding panels. The rear wheel cowlings feature a hinge joint in the middle of them so they do not impede his knee articulation. The rear cabin of the cab, directly connected to the smokestacks, rotate and connect to his torso and unfold into his arms. As with most mainline Movie toys, Optimus Prime features [[Automorph]] gimmicks, and due to his pricepoint has three of them. Firstly, during initial transformation, rotating his front fenders to become his heels flips the top parts of the grill to become his toes. Secondly, sliding out the the double-barrel cannon in his right forearm flips out his spring-loaded Ion Blaster, which lands into place for his right hand. (The Ion Blaster can actually be popped off his forearm fairly easily, held in place by a simple clip.) Optimus' final Automorph, located in his torso, is activated by flipping the silver lever on his stomach activating a series of spring-loaded actions where they push the truck windows part, raises the lever between them and allows the head to spring up from the chest cavity. At this point yellow LEDs light up the chest windows and Optimus Prime's eyes, accompanied by a 'powering up' sound effect.

: Optimus Prime has a wide range of articulation for a relatively bulky figure. He has ratcheting joints in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with swivel joints and ball joints supporting them in his biceps, lower knee joints and ankles. Again, unusually for a mainline figure, especially at the Leader pricepoint, his hands have individually articulated fingers and thumbs.

*'''Optimus Prime''' (Legends, 2007)

[[Image:Movie_Legends_Prime_toy.jpg|thumb|left|Shortening the smokestacks is good, it makes the toy safer, but removing ONE and keeping the other? Crazy.]]

: Legends class Optimus Prime is an ''extremely'' simplified toy of the extremely complex movie design. As such, he features numerous unavoidable inaccuracies, such as not transforming or even looking very much like the original design or the larger toy versions in robot mode. However, proportionally Legends class Optimus Prime is not far off from the real truck and the Leader class toy's vehicle mode, aside from missing a smokestack on the driver's side. he is articulated at the shoulders and upper legs via ball-joints.

: A Target-[[exclusive]] repaint of the Voyager class Optimus Prime (see below), this limited edition version boasts a "Supermetal finish", resulting in silver metallic paint covering much of his paintable gray/silver plastic, a much higher contrast in his red and blue plastic colors and improved 'flame' paint decorations.

: Unusually for the smaller Voyager-class of toys, [[Robo-Vision]] Optimus Prime comes packed in robot mode in a special hexagonal column box with many windows, similar to the original packaging for ''20th Anniversary'' Optimus Prime. The package also includes a [[Robo-Vision Decoder]]. Strangely, this Target exclusive preceded the release of the regular Voyager by a large margin, coming out on June 2, 2007 with the initial wave of movie toys.
: This Wal-Mart [[exclusive]] two-pack contains the ''Fast Action Battler'' Power Hook Optimus Prime toy, designated "2007 Optimus Prime", and the ''[[Classics (2006)|Classics]]'' [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] toy from ''The Ultimate Battle'' DVD two-pack. Both toys are identical to their normal individual releases.

[[Image:Movie_Voyager_OptimusPrime_toy.jpg|thumb|left|250px|The last one of you out of here gets a... gets a lead salad!]]

:The mid-range Voyager class ''Movie'' Optimus Prime toy transforms into an amalgamation of the Kenworth W900 and the Peterbilt 379, making this toy fairly inaccurate to the actual vehicle Optimus Prime turned into. Because of the smaller size and lessened complexity, the Voyager class Optimus Prime features a significantly different transformation sequence compared to the Leader class toy, and indeed, the actual CGI design. However, as the actual truck cabin no longer forms his chest, the cabin now features an small interior with opening doors and a non-removable cowboy-hat-bedecked driver figurine that flips out of the seat when the driver's side door is opened.

: In robot mode, Voyager class Optimus Prime is proportionally more accurate to his CGI design than the leader class toy and has a more accurate headsculpt, but due to the aforementioned lessened complexity significant sacrifices had to be made, such as "cheats" to the transformation sequence to achieve this and thus he is overall less accurate than he initially appears. In addition to previously mentioned changes, he carries much of the truck's front hood, grill and fenders on his back like a backpack. However, he maintains a superb level of articulation and posability.

: Optimus Prime is armed with two large rifles formed out of a combination of both smokestacks and fuel tanks. These rifles peg into lower arms with grips for his open hands. The under-slung fuel tanks can fire spring-loaded projectiles. In vehicle mode, both smokestack rifles can be deployed as twin cannons, and this mechanism can also be used to store the rifles and deploy them as shoulder guns in robot mode.

*'''Nightwatch Optimus Prime''' (Leader, 2007)

: As part of the "[[AllSpark Power]]" second half of the Movie line, Nightwatch Optimus Prime is an extensive redeco of the previously released Leader-class Optimus Prime, replacing most of his red and blue with different shades of blue and black. In fact, he resembles the original [[Diaclone]] Powered Convoy color scheme of ''Generation 1'' [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus's]] truck cab. The previously blue and red flames have been replaced with silver flames, as has various other decos, replaced by copper.

: As part of the [[Robot Replicas]] line, this version of Optimus is a non-transforming action figure that utilizes [[Revoltech]]-style jointing. The sculpt hews much closer to the movie CGI model than is possible with the full transforming toys, plus the universal jointing of the line allows for his forearm to be replaced with his hand-cannon... or bits from other Robot Replicas.
:The BK tie in toy of Optimus Prime is essentially two toys in one. The first part of the toy consists of two truck halves, which snap together around a sculpted robot mode Optimus Prime. The truck is squat, and primarily blue, with outbursts of chalk gray paint and red flames. Pulling back and letting go activates the gimmick: Prime "drives" forward and bursts from the truck mode, "transformed" to robot mode. This gimmick has marginal success.

:The "robot mode" of Optimus Prime is where the pullback motor and working wheels of the toys lie. Optimus is sculpted in blue plastic, pre-posed in an odd crouching pose with zero points of articulation. His right knee is bent back, with his right arm touching his knee, while the left side has the leg forward and the left hand holding onto his butt. The toy is as sparsely painted as the truck, with light blue eyes and chest windows, gray hands and feet among other parts, and red forearms. Two panels on his back have red flame tongues on them.
==Trivia==
* [[Takaratomy]] officially recognizes Optimus Prime's vehicle mode as a [http://www.kenworth.com/2100_vir_w900.asp Kenworth W900 truck], even though the vehicle used for filming was a modified [http://www.peterbilt.com/index_gal_mod_desc.asp?model=model379 Peterbilt 379], a different model from a different brand, although both are made by the PACCAR company. <ref> [http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=121424?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..2.* Article at Edmunds.com on some of the vehicles used in the movie] </ref>

[[Image:Movie_OptimusPrime_truckrear.jpg|thumb|right|200px|No container for you!]]

* Unlike most of the other truck-mode Optimus Primes in other continuities, ''Movie'' Optimus Prime does not pull a trailer of any sort. However, if he did, it would most likely be a flatbed trailer, as the rear of Prime's sleeper cabin is protected by a large silver headache rack, a piece of optional equipment installed in trucks that haul heavy loads on flatbed trailers. The rack protects the driver in case the load breaks free during braking.

* As part of the hype buildup to the movie's release, Optimus Prime made a brief cameo at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards, interacting with host Sarah Silverman. The scene spliced Silverman into pre-existing movie footage, but featured new dialogue recorded for the event by Peter Cullen. Prime heavily hinted that he wanted to present an award, but was rejected for a regular MTV fan.

* According to the free trading cards from the Boston Globe, Optimus is 28 feet tall, weighs 4.3 metric tons, and his primary weapon is an [[ion blaster]]. (Considering Optimus's height however, this weight would seem implausible)

* According to a tie-in advertisement for [[Burger King]], Prime likes his Whoppers with no onions, no cheese, and with extra pickles on the side. However, due to a cruel twist of fate, he can never enjoy the sweet taste of beefy victory. He saved the world from the Decepticons, and still he can't even have it his way?

* The Optimus Prime computer generated model consisted of 10,108 individual parts, 1,830,898 polygons, 27,744 rig nodes, and 2336 texture maps. The volume of all pieces combined came to 5445 cubic feet.<ref>Robertson, Barbara (2007). Heavy Metal. ''Computer Graphics, 30''(7), 12-17.</ref>

* Sadly enough, Optimus was only able to shoot his gun ONCE in the movie.

* Optimus Prime (in truck mode) made an appearance at [[BotCon 2007]], alongside the [[Sector Seven Mobile Command Unit]]. He was available for pictures all weekend.
* It said in the Autobots game in the DS, Prime's father was killed by Megatron.

The term '''exclusive''' is most often used in reference to a toy (or other item) that was only available at a specific store or venue rather that at standard retail in normal assortments.

While occasionally these are simply already-released toys in new packaging (often as multi-packs at a reduced price), most often they are [[redeco]]es. Very rarely, a toy developed for a defunct line will find itself released as an exclusive to a particular retailer, so the company can make back at least ''some'' of the development costs that went into it.

==Store exclusives==
Though store exclusives in ''Transformers'' date back as far as 1989's K-Mart-only releases of the "[[Legends (G1)|Legends]]" [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]], [[Jazz]] and [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], the practice saw little use in the US until Kay-Bee stores got its own exclusive mini-line ''[[Machine Wars]]'' in 1997. Store exclusives tied in directly to the main retail line, however, remained minimal in the following years, with ''[[Beast Wars]]'' and ''[[Beast Machines]]'' getting one or two.

The success of the ''[[Robots in Disguise]]'' series caused a boom for the franchise, resulting in the "big four" chains (Wal*Mart, Toys 'R' Us, Target, and Kay-Bee) each getting their own Transformers available only at their stores. Since then, store-exclusives have persisted and increased in number, though with the creation of the ''[[Universe]]'' series, most have fallen under that line, even well after the ''Universe'' line disappeared from standard retail, and even with toys whose backstories place them quite explicitly in other continuities. To this day, multiple store exclusives are released each year in the US.

In Japan, short-run exclusives are fairly common (or, used to be). There are (or, were) multiple outlets for exclusives; for most larger toys, [[Takara]]'s [[e-Hobby]] online store put up exclusive redecoes and "[[USA Edition]]s", though other online services got some as well. Many brick-and-mortar stores received very short-run smaller exclusives that were ''technically'' given away free, but only to people who bought certain toys (or a certain amount of toys) at the stores on a certain date. Magazine mail-aways remain a popular outlet for exclusive redecos in Japan, though that practice has fallen out of favor in the US.

==Convention & club exclusives==
Convention exclusives have a more consistent history, starting back in 1994 with [[BotCon 1994]]'s ''[[Generation 2]]'' [[Breakdown]], which had been slated for normal retail release with the rest of the team, but ultimately cancelled. The following year saw the first convention-exclusive toy [[redeco]]ed specifically for the convention, [[Nightracer]] (albeit not to the original specifications).

From then on, each official Transformers convention has had at least one exclusive toy... in fact, as time has gone on, the scale of convention exclusives has only expanded, with multi-toy packs, larger molds, and even [[retool]]ed items.

In 2005, [[Fun Publications]] expanded exclusives by producing toys available only to members of the [[Transformers Collectors' Club]]. While one each year is produced as a "free" incentive for signing up, in 2006 the first separately-purchased exclusive, [[Astrotrain (Timelines)|Astrotrain]], was produced based on fan-reaction to an unreleased retail exclusive, with more planned.

==Why exclusives?==
Exclusives for both stores and conventions are ''incentives'' to get interested buyers to the stores/shows to make other purchases. While you're here for that Transformer or ''[[Star Wars]]'' Clonetrooper set that can only be found at this store... hey, Dr Pepper is also four for ten bucks. And look, the new ''Venture Bros.'' DVD set is out. Need some paper towels? Tube socks?

For store exclusives, often the chain will request (or in the case of Wal*Mart, demand) an exclusive, perhaps even suggesting (or, again, demanding) a specific price point, should the line be proving popular. Sometimes, Hasbro or Takara may solicit items already in the works as exclusives to stores. Several toys that had been slated for normal retail release but canceled in the ''[[Universe]]'' line, for example, were ultimately released as Target exclusives in 2006, and over the last several years, many other items planned for mass-retail were relegated to exclusive status when their standard retail assortments were cancelled, such as the ''[[Alternators]]'' versions of [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] and [[Ravage]].

Convention/club exclusives are a bit different, and involve a lot more work done outside of Hasbro/Takara's offices. The convention organizers themselves write up proposals to the company, including the molds they would like to use, color arrangements, names, any new tools they wish to make, and such. These plans very often change depending on mold availability (sometimes molds are lost, or deteriorated, or are being used for other releases) or plans that Hasbro/Takara have in store for the future. In almost every instance, the convention-exclusive toys would not exist ''at all'' if the convention organizers did not request (and pay for) them.

:''Ransack is a [[Decepticon]] [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] from the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Ransack.JPG|right|thumb|146px|Better call Peter Graves.]]

'''Ransack''' is a fairly simple being. A tough-talking and straight-forward warrior, he craves combat and longs for each new battle. He'll level a whole town, destroy natural wonders, and kill hundreds to complete his mission without batting an optic. Ransack notices such things, sure - he just doesn't care.

==Fiction==
===Marvel Comics continuity===
''Ransack never actually appeared on-panel in the Marvel comics. His fellow [[Deluxe Insecticon|Deluxe Insecticons]] [[Venom]] and [[Chop Shop]] were part of the [[Mayhem Attack Squad]] on their mission to support the [[Wreckers]] against [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]], but since the combined Wreckers and Mayhems were identified as fourteen warriors (the exact number of characters who appeared on-panel), it cannot be inferred that Barrage was present, but behind the scenes.

===Dreamwave comics continuity===
After the fragmentatrion of the Decepticon forces following [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s seeming destruction in a [[space bridge]] accident, Ransack joined [[Ratbat]]'s [[Ultracon]]s. He accompanied Ratbat and fellow Ultracons Chop Shop and Venom on a mission to the [[Tagan Heights]], where they unleashed the deadly [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] on the [[Wreckers]]. Capturing the Wreckers' leader [[Springer]], the Ultracons were prevented from executing him when Devastator's battle with [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]] raged out of control. {{storylink|The Dark Ages, Part 2}} In the chaos that ensued, Ransack and his allies escaped, leaving Devastator behind. {{storylink|The Dark Ages, Part 2}}

When Megatron and his [[Aerospace Extermination Squadron]] retook [[Cybertron]] and reunified the Decepticons, Ransack was assigned to supervise enslaved Autobot miners at [[Internment Camp Pi]] in [[Praxus]]. {{storylink|The Age of Wrath, Part 2}}

Ransack, along with Barrage, Chop Shop, and Venom, remained on Cybertron following the departure of the [[Ark]] and the [[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]. The planet's chronic [[energon]] shortage reduced them to a vampiric existence, forcing them to capture [[Micromasters]] and drain them of their fuel. While pursuing [[Falcon]] and [[Flanker]] in the [[Wastelands]], they ran into the middle of a conflict between the [[Hot Rod Patrol]] and [[Race Track Patrol]]. {{storylink|Destined For Nothing}}

After devouring Falcon they soon set upon the other Micromasters, but were driven back by the timely arrival of [[Groundshaker]], who left with the Hot Rod Patrol. The subsequent arrival of [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] prevented them from devouring the Race Track Patrol, but he did toss them Flanker as a snack. {{storylink|The Gray Race}} The Insecticons subsequently abducted the Race Track Patrol and several other Micromasters from [[Little Iacon]], in an attempt to ferret out the Hot Rod Patrol and gain some new recruits in the process. {{storylink|Recipe For Hate}} Returning to Decepticon HQ with their Micromaster prisoners, Ransack caught a group of the tiny Transformers trying to free their cohorts. After sounding the alarm, Ransack had a big, possibly lethal hole blown in him by Groundshaker. {{storylink|Victims of the Revolution}}

===Devil's Due ''G.I. Joe vs the Transformers'' comics continuity===
As part of [[Serpent O.R.]]'s forces, Ransack defended the [[New Decepticon Army]]'s base against a combined Autobot/[[G.I. Joe]] strike force. During the battle, he and [[Venom]] were pounded on by [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and [[Storm Shadow]]. {{storylink|The Art of War, Part 5}}

===3H ''Universe'' comics===
Some incarnation of Ransack was held captive in [[Unicron]] and forced to fight in the [[Cauldron]]. He was freed in a mass escape orchestrated by [[Optimus Primal]].

===IDW comics continuity===
Ransack served on a Decepticon [[space station]] alongside [[Sixshot]], [[Spectro]], [[Squawkbox]], [[Treadshot (G1)|Treadshot]], and either [[Pounce]] or [[Wingspan]]. He was on monitor duty when Sixshot departed for [[Mumu-Obscura]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Sixshot}}
*'''Ransack''' (Deluxe Insecticon, 1985)
(Ransack, like all the Deluxe Insecticons, was licensed by Hasbro from [[Bandai]] for US release, and thus was not available from Takara in Japan. This is also likely the reason they were not included in the Cartoon or US Marvel Comic.)

Ransack, like all of the Deluxe Insecticons, was originally designed by Takatoku toys for the '''''Armored Insect Battalion Beetras''''' toyline (Nihongo: 機甲虫隊ビートラス). Takatoku toys went out of business before the end of the Beetras line and their assets were purchased by fellow Japanese toymaker Bandai. Bandai licensed Takatoku's Beetras molds (among others) to Hasbro in 1985 to make the Deluxe Insecticons.

Ransack's mold was originally scheduled to be released as the Beetras toy named '''''Beet Vadam'''''. Takatoku went out of business before Beet Vadam was released, giving Ransack the unique distinction of being the only version of this mold ever released.
[[Image:Galvatrong1.jpg|right|thumb|350px|Bwaaaaah! Kneepad of Dooooom!]]

'''Galvatron''' is a force of nature. Born from the machinations of [[Unicron]] himself, Galvatron is the conflation of madness and power, given form. He is blind to all but, his lust for power, his whims and desires at the mercy of the moment. Not even his own subordinates are safe. Though he is not beyond the capacity for long-term goals, it is his unpredictability and his casual disregard for any and all life that strikes such horror in friend and foe alike.

Galvatron was once [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], but reborn from his death throes in a Faustian pact with Unicron. Despite retaining the memories, spark and consciousness of Megatron, the near-death experience and massive physical upgrade led to a degree of alteration in personality, something further affected by his now-questionable sanity.
Megatron reluctantly accepted and was upgraded into '''Galvatron''', a more fearsome and powerful warrior.

Galvatron quickly retook command of the Decepticons after killing the traitorous [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] in the middle of his coronation as the Decepticons' new leader. He then went to Earth and attacked [[Autobot City]], full-force. [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] lead him away from Earth and Galvatron chased him to the [[Junkion (planet)|Planet of Junk]], where he defeated Magnus and took the Matrix, intending to use it against Unicron.

Galvatron could not open the Matrix, however, and as punishment for his treachery, Unicron swallowed him whole. Inside Unicron's belly, he met up with [[Hot Rod]]. Though he initially suggested an alliance with the young Autobot against the mutual threat of his master, the Chaos Bringer mentally tortured Galvatron for his attempted treachery and then forced him to attack Hot Rod. Hot Rod eventually managed to wrest the Matrix away from Galvatron and open it, leading to his transformation into Rodimus Prime. Flush with new power, Rodimus hurled Galvatron's from inside Unicron and into deep space. But that was not the end of Galvatron.

[[Image:GalvatronTVMag1.jpg|right|200px|thumb|He has a weird tendency to aim at his own troops.]]

In the year 2006 (or 2010, if you're Japanese), [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] set out to find their lost leader and return the Decepticons to glory. They found him sunk in a lava pit on the distant planet [[Thrull]] and managed to free him. However, the effects of the "plasma bath" irrevocably altered Galvatron's sanity chips,rendering him omnicidally insane. Upon regaining his freedom he thrashed Cyclonus and Scourge and sundered Thrull.

Galvatron led the Decepticons on many wacky adventures against the Autobots, though usually botching it in the end due to his craziness (he loved shooting his own troops). At one point, his derangement became so severe, the perpetually loyal Cyclonus was left little choice but to dupe Galvatron into taking therapy sessions (albeit, by force) on [[Torkulon]], the therapy-planet. After nearly murdering a attendant during a word-association session, and somehow building a gun in a basket-weaving class, Galvatron was deemed incurable by conventional methods. The doctors attempted to use living extensions of the planet to give him a lobotomy (much to Cyclonus' disapproval), but Galvatron broke free and murdered the sentient organic core of the planet. After that, he razed the entire planet's civilization, leaving them so broken it would take centuries to rebuild.

However, despite his insanity, he teamed-up with the resurrected [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] to stop the [[Hate Plague]]. He wound-up becoming infected by the plague and attempted to kill an unconscious Optimus Prime with a spear. Optimus woke up just in the nick of time and opened the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] directly in Galvatron's face. The wisdom of the Matrix not only cured the Universe of the Hate Plague, but cured Galvatron of his madness, as well. Grateful, Galvatron sanely declared "There will be no war today, Optimus. You have earned Galvatron's respect" and called a brief truce.

Later, Galvatron called the truce off and led an assault on Autobot City, searching for the Key to the [[Plasma Energy Chamber]]. After obtaining it,he intended to use its the Plasma Energy to turn Cybertron into a mobile dreadnought. Teamed with the Transformer-[[Nebulan]] hybrid, [[Scorponok (G1)|Lord Zarak]], they were eventually defeated and sent tumbling through space,ushering Cybertron into a new Golden Age. After regaining control, Galvatron vowed to collect energy from disparate corners of the galaxy and return to Cybertron, though Scorponok made it clear he questioned his leadership.
====Scramble City (toys) OVA (Japan-only)====

During a massive brawl between the Autobot and Decepticon [[combiner]]s, Megatron took the upper-hand. To counter this, Optimus Prime ordered [[Metroplex]] to enter the fray. Metroplex rolled onto the scene and towered over his enemies, with City Commander Ultra Magnus in tow. Not to be outdone, Megatron ordered his ''own'' City Commander to enter battle. Beaming down from the sky on a ball of light, the silent and menacing Galvatron stormed the battle. Transforming into cannon mode, Galvatron fired a blast of energy at Ultra Magnus, who quickly transformed to robot mode and engaged his foe in hand-to-hand combat. As the fight seemed evenly matched, City Commander Galvatron's ''city'' finally arrived to tip the odds: [[Trypticon]]!

====''Kiss Players'' (Japan-only)====

At the end of the Unicron War of 2005, [[Rodimus Prime]] hurled Galvatron out of [[Unicron]] and into space. The Decepticon leader crash-landed on the planet [[Earth]], obliterating the city of [[Tokyo]]. This catastrophic incident soured [[human]]-[[Transformer]] relations and led to the formation of the [[Earth Defense Command]], a governmental organization created to drive Transformers from the face of the planet.

Galvatron's Unicron-twisted cells, dispersed by the collision, spread throughout Earth's atmosphere. Born from these cells were the [[Legion]], an army of savage and vicious Transformers. Appearing all over the planet, the Legion quickly converged on the site of the impact, the crater upon which the headquarters of the E.D.C. had been constructed.

====The Transformer manga (Japan-only)====

Galvatron appeared regularly throughout the manga supplementing ''Transformers 2010'' (Season 3), which acted as a supplement to the animated shows. Some of his devious schemes from the manga included creating a clone army of Megatrons, dubbed the [[Megatron Military]], and forcing a human scientist named [[Dalton]] to create weapons of destruction for him. He even fought alongside his nemesis Rodimus Prime against [[Guiltor]], a strange fusion of Optimus Prime and Megatron that threatened to destroy both leaders.

====Headmasters anime (Japan-only)====

''(The Headmasters Anime ignores the events of the 3-part "The Rebirth" story arc and picks up after "The Return of Optimus Prime")''

In 2011, Galvatron reactivated the Decepticon [[Space Bridge]] on Cybertron and began a sneak-attack on the Autobots. He intended to hack into [[Vector Sigma]], though was thwarted just in time. The battle did result in yet another death for Optimus Prime.

Later Scorponok, Galvatron's new mysterious assistant from [[Master (planet)|Planet Master]], went against Galvatron's orders and placed bombs all around Vector Sigma. Galvatron rushed to Vector Sigma but could not deactivate the bombs in time and was caught in the ensuing explosion, which was powerful enough to destroy Cybertron.

[[Image:Galvacron.jpg|thumb|left|Galvatron gives Energon Optimus a run for his money.]]
Galvatron was thought dead for some time, until he returned alive and well a few months later. He retook command of the Decepticons and enacted a new devious plot. Galvatron intended to transform Earth into his new Unicron-like body dubbed "[[Grand Galvatron]]", making him all-powerful. He told this news only to his most trusted warrior, [[Sixshot (G1)|Sixshot]], and also delivered the news that he intended to sacrifice all the Decepticons for parts to build the body. Not a good idea, as Sixshot betrayed him to Scorponok and Galvatron was left all alone to Battle the Autobot [[Headmasters]] in the North Pole. Galvatron was defeated by the "Head-Formation of Friendship" and buried alive deep within an iceberg.

Galvatron would remain buried in the ice until he was resurrected by [[Dark Nova]] as the new and improved [[Megatron (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Super Megatron]].
====Headmasters manga====
===Marvel Comics continuity===

''(Events from the UK-only comics are in italics.)''

''There were multiple Galvatrons from various alternate futures who often time-jumped to give the Autobots trouble. There are between 2 and 5 different Galvatrons; the exact number remaining inconclusive.''

====''Galvatron I''====

''After being scolded by [[Unicron]] in 2006, Galvatron was ordered to attack Earth and destroy the [[Matrix]]. He ordered "Decepticons, to Earth!", but what he REALLY meant was Earth... 1986!''

''Time-jumping from the year 2006, and freeing himself from Unicron's control, Galvatron intended to create a device that would be powerful enough to destroy Unicron in 2006. Galvatron brought Cyclonus and Scourge with himself, and as an effect of time-travel, replaced three Autobots ([[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]) in the time line. Galvatron began construction of a massive laser cannon which he would then hide on Earth and unleash on an unsuspecting Unicron when the time was right.''

''The Autobots and Decepticons weren't having none of that and briefly formed an alliance to stop the three Decepticons of the future. The plan wasn't going very well until [[Hot Rod]], [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]] and [[Kup]] came back from the future to help. Present-day Ultra Magnus also arrived to help and heroically kept Galvatron occupied as the Autobots and Decepticons set-up a trap.''

''Galvatron mopped the floor with [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and returned to his laser cannon. He then ran into what he thought was [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] (but, in fact, was an unconscious [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] in disguise), and in a fit of anger, blew him up. After a second he realized that if he destroyed Starscream in the past, how could he have destroyed him in the future? Figuring that he was in an alternate past, and thus, no action taken then would effect his future, Galvatron and his troops returned to their proper time. The Autobots and Decepticons subsequently destroyed the laser cannon and called off the truce.''

''Sometime later Galvatron returned from the future again following the destruction of [[Unicron]]. This time he planned to stay in the past. He intended to siphon the power of a volcano to become a God. Thanks to [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] this plan was thwarted and the two of them became trapped under molten lava.''

''Galvatron eventually escaped and planned to take control of the Decepticons away from [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]]. This prompted Shockwave to concoct a plan to use [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] as a weapon against Galvatron.''

''Galvatron’s time traveling (along with that of the other Autobots and Decepticons) eventually caused a rift in time and space that threatened both the present and the future.''

''[[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] unleashed a [[Straxus|brainwashed Megatron]] on Galvatron. Ultimately Megatron and Galvatron forged an alliance after finding common ground and launched an assault against the combined forces of the present day Autobot and Decepticons, the future Autobots and Decepticons and the [[Wreckers]] and [[Mayhem Attack Squad]].''

''By this stage Galvatron was consumed by madness and was able to overcome all resistance. He was only stopped when the time rift ripped him apart and destroyed him.''
====Other versions of Galvatron====

*''In the [[Earthforce]] timeline, a Galvatron claiming to be no other Galvatron the Autobots had met before snuck into the Autobot crypt and implanted devices that would read the memories of various dead Autobots. He chose to read the memories of [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]], [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], [[Sunstreaker]], [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]] and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]]. What he didn't know was that the device he placed in their bodies actually managed to revive them from the dead! Alive, but hopelessly out-matched, the Autobots concocted a plan to defeat Galvatron. They kept him busy in battle while Wheeljack placed a helmet on his head which would deactivate him and leave him imprisoned in a "sleep mode". Within this sleep mode, Galvatron was forced to forever relive his worst nightmare (being dismembered by [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Prime]]) over and over and over again...''

*''In an alternate future, a geriatric Rodimus Prime recounted tales of his exploits to a curious youth from his death bed. Galvatron was seen, in Rodimus Prime's flashback, when Unicron attacked Cybertron in the year 2010 (of that timeline). There is no conclusive evidence on surrounding events, so it remains unknown if this is a previously seen Galvatron or yet another incarnation. It's not even known which timeline this took place in.''
===IDW Comics===
:('''Important Note:''' ''Uniquely, the IDWverse Galvatron is a completely, totally, honestly, (no kidding) entirely separate character from Megatron, and actually predates him.'')

Galvatron was a crew member on the first [[Ark]], launched during Cybertron's Golden Age. However, he and the ship were lost in an anomaly in the [[Benzuli Expanse]]. Galvatron then became the herald for whatever dark master existed in what he referred to as the [[Dark Universe]].

Galvatron returned soon after [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]'s resurrection and defeat, appearing on Cybertron to seize the remains of Thunderwing. During this incursion he killed [[Leadfoot]] with his bare hands. Likely as a result of his time spent in the anomaly, Galvatron has incredible self-repair capabilities; for example, he recovered almost immediately after [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] blew off part of his head.

===Dreamwave ''Armada'' comic===
An alternate version of Galvatron appears briefly as one of [[Unicron]]'s heralds, along with [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]], [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]], [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]], and [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]]. He is ultimately destroyed by [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] with the power of the [[Dark Saber]].

==Controversy over identity==
[[Image:MarvelUK-202.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Yeah, this'll ''really'' help with the whole insanity thing.]]
Some fans believe Galvatron is a psychologically distinct and discontinuous entity from Megatron, almost, or equally, as much as [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] and [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] who demonstrate no continuity of memory or personality to their former Decepticon selves. This remains a topic of heated debate in some circles, in spite of a fairly unambiguous canon.

===Generation 1 cartoon===

In the G1 animated continuity, Galvatron evidently still self-identifies as being the same person as Megatron, albeit with greater power and a new name. Although not making a point of revealing this former identity to his troops at large (perhaps to cast off the potential stigma of being a "defeated" leader), Galvatron makes his sense of self clear when Starscream asks "Megatron? Is that you?", to which he replies "Here's a hint" before obliterating him.<ref>Some fans claim the "Here's a hint" line is a point in favor of Galvatron ''not'' being Megatron, instead of the far more likely intended affirmation, since Megatron "would never kill Starscream." However most fans would probably agree that Starscream had simply never pissed Megatron off enough to actually kill him before.</ref> Later in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie (1986)|The Transformers: The Movie]]'' when Galvatron is poised to crush [[Hot Rod]]'s neck, he boasts: "First Prime, then Ultra Magnus, and now you. It's a pity you Autobots die so easily, or I might have a sense of satisfaction." Again, Galvatron is obviously speaking with no sense of discontinuity of identity or personality as he refers to past and current acts as both Megatron and Galvatron without qualification or distinction.

While some might contrast this statement, however, with his earlier line, "I shall crush you, just as Megatron crushed Prime,", interpreting that such a statement implies a disconnect from his former life, this too can easily be explained by Galvatron's apparent reluctance to allow his troops know that he used to be Megatron. While Galvatron would have fully expected the knowledge imparted in the later statement to Hot Rod to die with the callow youth, the declaration to Ultra Magnus was made in public, with his troops (and, potentially, other Autobots in earshot) present.

During season three, however, Galvatron made little or no further references to his past life as Megatron, though this could be a side effect of lying in a pool of lava for several months and his increasing insanity. Upon meeting the resurrected Optimus Prime in ''The Return of Optimus Prime'', Galvatron behaved as though simply picking up where he left off with his old nemesis from his Megatron days, as did Prime, saying that he knew him "all too well", indicating that the Autobot leader was capable of recognising his former adversary despite the change in name and appearance. Furthermore, in ''Five Faces of Darkness'', Astrotrain states that Megatron and Galvatron are "the same guy," implying that during Galvatron's absence, the other Decepticons (or, at the very least, Astrotrain) figured out what was going on.

And yet despite all that, a memorial of Megatron can be seen prominantly in the [[Decepticon Crypt]], implying that the Decepticons who built it considered Megatron to be dead. This could possibly be explained that the Decepticons built the marker before Galvatron returned and seized command, though their window of opportunity to build the thing was rather slim. {{storylink|Starscream's Ghost}}

===Japanese fiction===

[[Image:EarlyGalvatronTVMagazine1.jpg|left|250px|thumb|I hope you enjoyed that jump-kick, Magnus, because it's a ''very'' long way down.]]

Early advertisements for the Galvatron toy presented the character as an all-together separate being from Megatron, and in some cases, even being Megatron's ''underling''. The second [[Scramble City]] OVA was a remake of the original animated version, albeit including the Galvatron toy for promotion. Galvatron appears to fight his nemesis, Ultra Magnus, as Megatron barks orders from the background. This is likely due to Takara wishing to advertise the toy as quickly as possible, without full knowledge of the character's history. To maintain Galvatron's mystique, he was given the function of "City Commander", with no indication that he was an upgraded Megatron. Continuing this trend of unintentional disassociation, very early promotional artwork featured in [[TV Magazine]] and [[Comics Bom Bom]] also presented Galvatron as a separate character.

However, this era was very short-lived. In all official Japanese fiction, including the [[manga]] and the Japanese-exclusive cartoons, Galvatron is locked in as an upgrade of Megatron.

A good example would be the ''[[Battlestars]]'' series. Upon being resurrected and further upgraded, Galvatron reverted to the name Megatron once more (as [[Megatron (G1)#Battlestars: Return of Convoy (Japan-only)|Super Megatron]]).

===Marvel Comics===

In the US and UK Marvel comics the various time-hopping Galvatrons all demonstrate an awareness of having previously been Megatron with no strong indicators of a break in psychological identification. Indeed, at one point, a Galvatron said outright, "Like Megatron? No - I AM Megatron!" The closest that these Galvatrons came to identity crisis were incidents in which a time-displaced Galvatron was confronted by Megatrons (or copies thereof) and did battle with his former self. Although in these instances Galvatron experiences trains of thought that suggest he sees Megatron as a separate being and/or the source of his madness that needs to be destroyed, it should be noted that these are not the musings of a calm, rational mind. In these instances Galvatron is in the grips of a psychotic episode, which he generally snaps out of by realising that he is indeed the same person.

A possible explanation for why (any version of) Galvatron retains psychological continuity with Megatron while his fellow Unicron-creations do not may be that [[Thundercracker]] et al were apparently already dead or in total stasis-lock at the time of their reformatting, and thus it is widely speculated that only their bodies were used to create Cyclonus and company. Whether this indicates that they retained their sparks and merely suffered total mind-wipes (either as the result of recent death or by Unicron's doing), or if Unicron actually infused their reformatted bodies with new life-forces is unknown. (On the other hand, none of the other Unicron-created Decepticons have faced their past selves or deeds the way Galvatron has.) Megatron, by comparison, was clearly alive and awake at the time of his reformatting and struck a bargain with Unicron for "a new body", a deal which implies that his mind would remain his own.
*A Galvatron [[Action Master]] was planned at one point, but apparently went no further than a concept sketch. It is only vaguely similar to Galvatron's normal appearance and may possibly have been a "powered up" Galvatron of some sort.

[[Image:Megalvatron.jpg|right|thumb|150px|This toy IS a time paradox.]]
* A triple changer was proposed which would switch between a very awkward [[Galvatron]], Megatron, and a Walther P-38 handgun with added futuristic silencer and laser sight. It is notable that the strange "Reverse Megatron" design has a mild resemblance to the also unproduced Galvatron [[Action Master]], especially in the chest design.

*Galvatron's toy bio was apparently written with the intention of him being a new character who coexisted with Megatron: he has a rank of 9 and the function "City Commander," with no mention of him having once been Megatron. Given the omission of similar details from Rodimus Prime's bio, it is likely that this was done to avoid spoiling the surprise of Galvatron's origin in the movie.

*The Galvatron toy's gun mode's only fictional appearances were in the UK comics, which featured it as a shrunken, human-scaled weapon, and a form that he assumed merely so that he could easily be conveyed by other parties, but never wielded as a weapon.

*Galvatron's toy bio states that his cannon is a "laser which emits chemically-produced direct-current electricity". While this is a rather strange thing for a laser to do, it is a neat pun on his name. A ''galvanic cell'', named after Luigi Galvani, is a certain type of chemical voltage source. Though Galvatron's toy's batteries are not galvanic cells, they do produce DC electricity chemically, making his toy one of the more fiction-accurate in the Generation 1 line.

*Bizarrely, Unicron would appear to have based Galvatron on a [[Makoto|schoolboy]]'s wristwatch.

*When asked about Galvatron's design in an interview, [[Floro Dery]]'s reply was, "But about Galvatron, my inspiration for him are those 'stupid people'."<ref>[http://transformersph.blogspot.com/2007/06/interview-with-floro-dery.html TransFormers Philippines: Interview With Floro Dery]</ref> ...Ooookay.

*Just as megatron's fussion cannon was shown sometimes in commercials to have a handle, galvatrons cannon had a triger on at least one ocasion during par two of the return of optimus prime, this trigger is NOT NEEDED.
