Convinced there are no Decepticons left on Earth, the Elite Guard prepares to take Optimus Prime and his crew back to Cybertron, unaware of the increasing Decepticon activity taking place under their very noses.

Summary
The Autobot Ironhide sends a message to the Earth-based Autobots, revealing he is under attack from Decepticons and has already lost one space bridge. He requests backup, but the transmission is cut off. Ultra Magnus explains this is but one of many reports of rising Decepticon activity. Jazz thinks it is due to the rumours of Megatron's survival, and Sentinel can't resist an opportunity to make a snide comment about the source of those rumours: Optimus Prime. Magnus therefore decides that all Earth-bound Autobots will make preparations to leave the planet. When Optimus protests due to the presence of Decepticons on Earth, Ultra Magnus brushes him off, whilst Sentinel butts in with another tirade about putting Prime up for an inquiry (or a court-martial, as Optimus perceives it). Ultra Magnus tries to make his position clear; that in the long run, everyone is better off believing Megatron is dead. Putting forward the idea of the Decepticon leader surviving and the AllSpark being destroyed would cause panic among the Autobots and strengthen the resolve of the Decepticons. An outraged Optimus is forced into compliance.

Back at the factory, Sari is heartbroken by the idea of her friends being forced to leave Earth. The situation is made worse when Sentinel shows up. With his usual grace and tact, he tells Sari to belt up and officially inducts Optimus's team into the war effort. In the middle of insulting the "repair grunts", he makes a gesture of sorts to Optimus: Do as Ultra Magnus says, admit he's been lying, and Sentinel will use his connections to get Optimus's military career back on track, as thanks for the recent Headmaster incident. When Optimus tells him what to do with his offer, Sentinel places him under formal arrest.

On a garbage scow moving along the river, Starscream suddenly reactivates. Disorientated, he panics when he realises that not only can he not pick up any Decepticon energy signatures, he can't even pick up his own! After a moment of shock, he recovers and gets his bearings: he's alive and still on Earth. Furious at Megatron's attempt on his life, he transforms and blasts off into the sky.

At the Decepticon base, Blitzwing and Lugnut successfully test out Professor Sumdac's new Decepticon signal dampener. Mildly impressed, Megatron quickly moves on, demanding the creation of a subspace communicator so he can contact his forces in space to call off the aimless skirmishes until he can build his own space bridge. When Sumdac comments that Earth technology is too primitive, Megatron smugly informs him that they will simply steal the required tech from the Elite Guard's ship. Meanwhile, the Autobots are trying to figure out what to do with Sari, so they take her to the most together human they know, Captain Fanzone—although they do point out that most of the humans they know are criminally insane. While they handle that, Optimus is on the Elite Guard's ship, with Sentinel still trying to convince him to play ball. While they argue, Lugnut and Blitzwing tunnel under the ship's shield and steal a tachyon transmitter. As they make their escape, they fail to notice Starscream tailing them back to base.

As Lugnut presents his prize to Megatron, Starscream makes his presence known. What follows is a quick but decisive victory for Megatron, who simply slashes Starscream before blasting him point-blank. Lugnut checks to see if Starscream is still online, and finding no spark, helps Blitzwing toss his corpse into the river. After floating downstream, Starscream suddenly reactivates again. He realises he lacks a spark and discovers he is being kept alive by a fragment of the AllSpark buried in his head, effectively making him immortal. Delighted, he declares the end of the Megatron's era. As Megatron sends his message out to the Decepticons, Starscream attacks...and is promptly killed again. After a couple more fruitless attempts, he starts to wonder if he needs a new strategy. His fragment allows him to locate a second shard, and a plan begins to formulate...

At the Elite Guard ship, Magnus presses Optimus Prime to cooperate, when Jazz reveals that he's discovered a sudden surge in AllSpark energy. Concluding that it's another shard, Magnus and Jazz go to retrieve it, while Sentinel is to remain and watch Optimus. As Sentinel moans, Optimus realizes that they had only found AllSpark shards before due to Sari's key. Doing a thermal scan, he discovers Starscream. Optimus tries to warn Ultra Magnus, but Sentinel threatens to put him in stasis cuffs if he tries to leave. Optimus is able to take down Sentinel (who squeals like a girl) and place him in the cuffs, then rolls out.

Meanwhile, the Autobots are watching Sari "interview" Captain Fanzone, who is not very fond of children. Optimus contacts the Autobots and tells them to meet him en route to the train.

As Starscream gloats about his plan to draw out Megatron and kill him in a massive explosion, Ultra Magnus and Jazz arrive, as do Megatron and Blitzwing. Megatron realizes that it's a trap set by Starscream, while Magnus and Jazz have trouble extracting the shard. An energy surge throws the Elite Guard off the train. Further ahead along the tracks, Optimus orders Prowl to sever the passenger cars from main car, while Bumblebee takes Sari to use the key to remove the shard. They succeed, but the train still nearly crashes, only stopped because Ratchet uses his magnets from ahead while Bulkhead, anchored by Optimus Prime, grabs the rear of the train. High in the air, as Starscream fumes about the lost opportunity, Megatron appears, ready to beat him senseless.

On the ground, Ultra Magnus reprimands Optimus Prime, while Sentinel Prime arrives and accuses him of assault. Though Optimus defends his position, both Elite Guardsmen point out that there is no evidence of Decepticonsm-only for Starscream to crash into the ground mere meters away, causing Sentinel Prime to freak out at the sight of an actual Decepticon. Quickly coming back online, Starscream takes advantage of Magnus's momentary inattention to blast the Autobot leader into unconsciousness from point-blank range, taking the shard with him. The Autobots' attempts to take down Starscream fail, until Optimus comes up with a plan—although an intervention from Jazz is required to make Sentinel go along with it. Having Sentinel draw Starscream's attention, Optimus uses the stasis cuffs on the Decepticon, who is then taken to the Elite Guard ship—with his mouth riveted shut.

Ultra Magnus admits that Optimus Prime was right about there being Decepticons on Earth, and though Sentinel Prime brings up the assault and insubordination charges, Magnus still supports Optimus's actions. Magnus decides that Optimus Prime's crew will remain on Earth to locate the remaining AllSpark shards and capture the Decepticons, while the Elite Guard returns to Cybertron for Magnus to conduct the war effort. Sari is overjoyed that the Autobots are staying, but promises Captain Fanzone that they can still hang out.

Meanwhile, Megatron tells his minions to inform their double agent on Cybertron that the Decepticons have repledged their allegiance to Megatron and that their attacks will draw Autobot forces away from the Transformers' home world. Once the space bridge technology is fully developed, Megatron's group will return to Cybertron and conquer the planet from within...
Other notes
*This episode was first broadcast in Canada on April 26, one week before its United States premiere, and during the American premiere of the episode "The Return of the Headmaster".

Animation errors
* While dropping into Megatron's mountain base for the first time, the "glow" effect on Starscream's jet exhaust is misaligned for several seconds until he 'catches up' to it.
* Just before Prime activates the thermal scan of the cloud bank supposedly concealing Starscream, Starscream is already plainly visible on the viewscreen. If Starscream wasn't meant to be concealed, then it's a continuity error, as Prime wouldn't need a thermal scan to detect him, just a magnified visual.
* Not really an animation error per se, but when the Autobots stop the train, Sari is somehow not hurled forward off its roof by her own momentum, even though she is not restrained in any fashion. Unless...she's a witch!

Continuity errors
* Megatron and the other Decepticons don't seem to wonder why it is that Starscream keeps coming back, despite the fact that they note that his spark compartment is empty. (Unless Megatron did find the allspark fragment, and decided it'd be fun to keep him around as a target for violence)
* Megatron shatters Starscream's yellow cockpit the first and fourth times he "kills" him in the episode, leaving his empty spark chamber visible. When Starscream pulls a Captain Jack, it is still missing. After he sees his reflection in the water the first time, and simply when they cut to a different angle on the fourth time, it is suddenly present and intact once more. (It's possible that's because of the miraculous powers of the AllSpark shard; if it can keep Starscream online, it surely can regenerate any damage he has taken.)
* The AllSpark shard Starscream recovers changes size constantly, from barely fitting into Starscream's hand, to small enough to fit into Optimus's palm with his hand closed.
* How did Sentinel get the stasis cuffs off?
* When Optimus Prime puts the newly acquired fragment of the AllSpark into its housing, there are four shards total, even though thus far, only two have been recovered by the Autobots on-screen (three if they ripped the one out of Starscream's brainpan, but seeing as he's still online, that's not likely). Optimus does note in the episode that, in the past, Sari's key had been the primary tool used to locate fragments of the AllSpark. As this has only happened in the episode "The Elite Guard" so far (as well as this episode), it is concievable that the Autobots managed to locate two other "SmallSparks" off-screen.
* As Lugnut and Blitzwing tunnel under the force shield to the Elite Guard's ship, they leave a gigantic hole, which no one notices. And later on, the hole has mysteriously disappeared.

Transformers references
*Much like his Generation 1 counterpart, Starscream is now immortal, only this time they actually explain why and leave him with a body.
*Megatron believes Starscream "couldn't even lead a parade", just as his G1 namesake said in "Starscream's Brigade".

Real-world references
* The title. Nuff said.<!--Do not say any more here. It needs to be acknowledged, but expanding beyond a wikipedia link can lead to no good-->
* Starscream refers to his disguise as a Harrier Jet. Pity his model won't turn up for another hundred years or so.

Miscellaneous trivia
* Along with machines and lawyers, it seems Captain Fanzone doesn't like kids.

* It's not clear how Starscream ended up in the garbage scow. If the Autobots threw him there, wouldn't they have retrieved him (as proof of Decepticon activity) in "The Elite Guard"? If it was humans, why didn't they keep his body in order to study alien technology? Or, one of the Decepticons may have thrown him into the scow, as a gesture of contempt or to hide their presence on Earth...but we don't know for sure.

* In the first interior shot of the Decepticons' hideout, we see the markings on the top of their computer station resemble the upper half of the Decepticon sigil, complete with glowing eyes.

* In his speech, Megatron goes on about how the Decepticons are united by a common purpose and need to put aside their differences, yet Megatron himself is beating the slag out of a fellow Decepticon throughout the episode. How ironic.

* Starscream is not just beaten up, but killed by Megatron five times in a single episode. Must be a new record.

* The Elite Guard does not come off very well in this episode: Ultra Magnus and Jazz fail to notice a large hole the size of a B2 bomber when leaving their ship, a tachyon transmitter gets ripped off their ship without them even noticing, Sentinel Prime freaks out at the mere sight of a Decepticon, and Ultra Magnus gets defeated by Starscream after only one shot (though, to be fair, it was at point-blank range to the face and it could have been at full power), while Megatron shrugs them off and repeatedly defeats Starscream. If the Elite Guard are supposed to be the best and the brightest that Cybertron has to offer, then the Autobots are not going to fare very well in the upcoming war with the Decepticons.

* Starscream's fate is a bit unclear at the end. He's been captured by the Autobots, but is he taken back to Cybertron by the Elite Guard, or left under Optimus's watch on Earth?

* Megatron mentions having a double agent on Cybertron. Who could it be?

* With this episode, all five of the Autobots from the live-action movie have appeared in Transformers: Animated.

* When Sentinel is trying to bribe Optimus, he says he could get Optimus re-instated in the Elite Guard, so apparently Optimus used to be in the Elite Guard.

"Fellow Decepticons, take heed. Your leader, Megatron, still lives!

The Dinobots are a three-member subgroup consisting of the leader Grimlock, Swoop, and Snarl. Violent and primitive, they were granted sparks by Sari's key, and a range of combat abilites by Megatron. Now they inhabit an island in the middle of Lake Erie, sometimes simply living in peace, other times getting involved in the thick of things alongside the Autobots.

Fiction
Grimlock and the Dinobots were originally animatronic dinosaur models at the Dino Drive theme park that were badly damaged by the clumsy Autobot Bulkhead. The remains were brought to Isaac Sumdac's lab for repair, where the disembodied Megatron took an interest in them and attempted to turn them into robotic attack drones as practice for re-creating his own body. Thusly rebuilt, the Dinobots went on a rampage at Dino Drive, but were restrained by the Autobots when Ratchet and Bumblebee captured them in an electromagnetic field. When Sari's AllSpark key reacted by tugging her toward her Autobot friends, she plugged it into Bumblebee's weapons systems to boost their powers, but this only resulted in the Dinobots being blasted with AllSpark energy. The three robots were apparently left deactivated by the blast and were returned to Sumdac's lab once more. It was there, however, that the full extent of their exposure to the AllSpark's energy was revealed, as the three Dinobots suddenly came to life!

The Tyrannosaurus dubbed itself Grimlock and declared itself to be leader of the group, despite Megatron's attempts to give the trio orders. In contrast, the lab's other occupant, the Tutor Bot, happily responded to Megatron's cries for obedience and began a lesson on dinosaurs, their connection to fossil fuels, and the use of fossil fuels in cars. The simple-minded Grimlock took this to mean that cars "ate" dinosaurs, and Megatron convinced the trio to destroy these "fossil feeders", including the only thing worse than cars...cars and trucks that turn into robots. Equipped with deadly fire-breath thanks to Megatron's enhancements, the Dinobots set about their task immediately, inevitably drawing the attention of the Autobots. At Bulkhead's suggestion, the Autobots drew them to a deserted parking lot, where the Dinobots wound up defeating themselves by melting down the lot's maccadam surface into tar and getting stuck in it.

Sumdac intended to destroy the Dinobots, writing them off as mindless machines, and Optimus Prime agreed with his decision, but Prowl could sense the spark of life within them. With Bulkhead's help, he relocated them to a deserted island where they could live peacefully and undisturbed. Grimlock took an almost immediate dislike to some birds that defecated on him, but his anger had an unforeseen effect: It triggered another of Megatron's enhancements and caused him to transform into robot mode! Snarl and Swoop were quite shocked, but Grimlock was rather pleased with the results. Blast from the Past

Some time after the Dinobots were deposited on the island, Meltdown arrived to use the island as a hideout to create transformable humans. With his acid touch, he forcibly made the Dinobots his servants under threat of pain. In addition to having them serve as guards, Meltdown sent Swoop to kidnap Sari Sumdac. When Prowl and Bulkhead arrived to investigate, the Dinobots attacked them. After being dropped into Meltdown's base, Captain Fanzone, who had followed the Autobots, grabbed one of Meltdown's protective suits, which he used to trap the villain. Now free of Meltdown's control, the Dinobots transformed into robot mode and prepared to take their revenge on him. This wasn't totally unexpected; Prowl even offered Meltdown a choice: prison or the Dinobots. Then Colossus Rhodes and two of Meltdown's early transforming-humans experiments walked out, and the Dinobots turned their attention toward them, terrifying the trio of mutants right before pulverizing them. Captain Fanzone decided that as long as the Dinobots stayed out of Detroit, he didn't have a problem with them being on the island, but Bulkhead and Prowl remained unsure whether or not they should inform Prime of what happened. Survival of the Fittest

It turned out that they decided to tell Prime nothing, but they were forced to reveal the truth when the Decepticons began preparations for a strike. Optimus was taken to Dinobot Island and tried to convince the Dinobots to help. Grimlock pretty much told Prime to slag off, saying that they destroyed robots. Megatron Rising - Part 1 Later, the Ark crashed on Dinobot Island, and the Autobots and Decepticons held their battle there. No sign of the Dinobots.

The Elite Guard

After the Cybertron Elite Guard arrived on Earth, Optimus took Supreme Commander Ultra Magnus and Sentinel Prime to investigate Optimus Prime's claims that the AllSpark was dispersed. En route to the ship, the Dinobots jumped the Autobots. Sentinel Prime was unimpressed, telling them to "shoo". Grimlock's transformation was a little more impressive, as was his energo-sword. Ultra Magnus summoned lightning with his hammer, and the Dinobots snuck away into the wilderness. The Elite Guard
As he attempts to learn more about his identity, he never loses his sense of humor. His trash bin is an impressive bag of tricks, able to stash and deploy many useful (and even more non-useful) items at a moment's notice, or make them seemingly disappear forever. Wreck-Gar emerged from a garbage scow, activated by a shard of AllSpark energy that was close to Sari Sumdac's key, self-aware but with no sense of history and identity. He tried to figure out what he was by studying objects in his environment; he was briefly tricked by a food label into thinking he was high-fructose corn syrup. Once ashore, Wreck-Gar's clumsy curiosity prevented police officers from apprehending the Angry Archer, and the villain conscripted Wreck-Gar as a sidekick, even giving the confused mechanoid his new, shorter name. Wreck-Gar helped the Archer disable an armored car, and in the process, attracted the attention of the Autobots. After being harshly berated by Ratchet, Wreck-Gar assumed he was good for only one thing—GARBAGE!—and set about trying to deliver the stinky stuff to the entire citizenry of Detroit. (Detroit just happened to be in the middle of a garbage strike as well. Hooray!)

This mission became much more dangerous when he was approached by Lugnut, who was out to retrieve the AllSpark shard from Wreck-Gar's body. Thanks to Wreck-Gar's habit of repeating everything said to him, Lugnut believed the newcomer was just as much a loyal Decepticon as himself. Wreck-Gar managed to befuddle and avoid both factions, and eventually settled upon hijacking another garbage scow so he could have a larger supply to distribute throughout the city. This particular scow was infested with highly destructive, all-consuming nanobots designed by Sumdac Systems, and Wreck-Gar's attempt to deliver it was impeded by Ratchet, who did the hardest thing he'd ever had to do: apologize. Once he finally realized how destructive the nanobots were, Wreck-Gar decided to be a hero, slapping the Autobot symbol on his chest once again and vacuuming up the nanobots. The nanobots began to overload within his backpack, however, and as Wreck-Gar tumbled off of what was left of the scow, he cried out his thank-you to Ratchet. An explosion of AllSpark energy burst from the water, and all Ratchet's magnetism power could retrieve was random junk...

And, at the bottom of the lake, Wreck-Gar smiled to himself, a hero. Despite being little more than a head and chest assembly buried in mud, he assured the fish passing by he was there to help...but first...could somebody give him a hand? Garbage In, Garbage Out
Summary
Garbage is piling up all over Detroit, as the trash-bots are malfunctioning and Sumdac Systems CEO Porter C. Powell refuses to repair them until the city and he can come to an agreement on payment. In Powell's office, a technician demonstrates a new form of the nanobots that caused big problems a while back, designed this time to break garbage down to its component molecules, quickly and cheaply solving the garbage problem (while allowing Powell to charge the city a hefty fee).
Elsewhere, the Autobots are trying to patch up their still-damaged reputation by helping pile garbage into scows. Ratchet ends up getting into a shouting match with an old man whose car ended up under a garbage mound, resulting in the car being dumped in the river and the two old grouches almost coming to blows. Captain Fanzone arrives to break up the scene and remarks that Ratchet needs to work on his "people skills". Prime agrees and assigns Bumblebee and Sari to try and help out Ratchet while they work more on the garbage problem. Ratchet is not happy with this.

Just before the Autobots depart, though, Sari's key glows, but she quickly disregards this...and misses the emergence of a junk-robot from the scow, brought to life by an AllSpark shard. The confused machine tries to figure out his identity using the scraps around him, but is unsatisfied with the results. Spying a passing blimp with a sign for the Detroit police department with the slogan "We're Here to Help", the robot happily goes about trying to find some police for some help with his identity.

At the Decepticon base, Lugnut detects a surge in AllSpark energy, and Megatron concludes that another fragment must have turned up. Megatron orders Lugnut to retrieve it, while Lugnut continues his glory spouting as he leaves. Megatron's optical sensor begins to noticeably twitch.

Stuck in a traffic jam, Ratchet is about to display some serious road rage when Bumblebee puts on his siren and clears a path for them. Heading through, they a find a familiar couple who are expecting, but their car crashed on the way to the hospital. Rathcet agrees to take them to the hospital, then jets off at high speed, despite the warning to keep the mother calm.

Meanwhile, the robot is walking through down town Detroit, nearly causing a few accidents. The police, pursuing the Angry Archer, crash into the robot, who subsequently asks them for help. Archer tells the robot to throw them aside so that they can escape, and the robot agrees. When Archer inquires as to his identity, the robot responds that he is 'worthless wreck', 'walking pile of garbage', so the Archer dubs him Wreck-Gar. He tries to explain the that they steal from the rich and give to the poor (themselves), but Wreck-Gar gets the Archer's words confused. Seeing a passing armored car, Archer tells Wreck-Gar that they must go for, and Wreck-Gar picks up the Archer and chases after a car.

Meanwhile, expecting mother Carly asks her husband, Spike, to ask the driver to slow down, only for Spike to learn that there is only a little girl in the carm-and no driver! Ratchet tells them to keep quiet as he tries to find a hospital, only for the armored car pursued by Wreck-Gar to be thrown through the air, landing in Ratchet's way. Jettisoning the Humans, Rathcet and Bumblebee try to stop Wreck-Gar, only for Angry Archer to flee with a canister that was in the armored car. As Sari points that Autobots are supposed to catch the bad guys, Wreck-Gar assumes that he is an Autobot, slaps on an Autobrand, and goes after the Archer. Bumblebee and Sari go after him, while Rathcet offers to drive the Spike and Carly to the hospital. They say they'll take a cab, and Ratchet mutters that people say he's rude.

Out running the swinging Arcer, Wreck-Gar hurls him into the air, allowing the Angry Archer to escape, but the Canister falls into Wreck-Gar's backpack. As the Autobots and Sari show up, her key starts to glow, and they realize that Wreck-Gar was created by an AllSpark fragment. Ratchet rudely tells Wreck-Gar that he is not an Autobot and is only good for one thing: GARBAGE! Wreck-Gar transforms into his garbage truck vehicle mode, and leaves to give garbage to the people of Detroit. As he leaves, he covers Sari and the Autobots in a pile of garbage.

Meanwhile, Lugnut has reached the city, and confronts Wreck-Gar in the military base he and Blitzwing previously visited. Demanding the AllSpark fragment, Wreck-Gar transforms. Wreck-Gar's repeating of Lugnut's statements leads him to conclude that Wreck-Gar is a loyal Decepticon, and Wreck-Gar slaps on a Decepticon symbol.

Back at the crime scene, Ratchet is removing the driver of the armored car when Powell and Fanzone show up. Powell reveals that the car was carrying the garbage devouring microbots to a demonstration for Mayor Edsel. However, the canister carrying them is gone. Sari is more than willing to let Powell suffer, but Ratchet is concerned about what the microbots might doif infused with AllSpark energy. Tracking Wreck-Gar to the base, Ratchet demands the Microbots, only for Lugnut to transform and activate his bomb punch. Wreck-Gar interprets this as the universal greeting, and gives Lugnut a high five. Sari and the Autobtos barely manage to avoid ground zero. As Lugnut transforms to attack, Wreck-Gar takes out the canister, which has cracked, allowing some of the microbots to touch Lugnut. Crying out in pain, Lugnut commands Wreck-Gar to get them off, so Wreck-Gar dissects Lugnut, causing the tail end to crash onto a garbage scowl. Bumblebee declares their problems over, but Ratchet is worried. If those microbots ate through Decepticon armor-plating, there is no telling what they'll do to down town Detroit.

On the river bank, Powell arrives to cancel the presentation with the mayor, only for the group see the microbots eat the garbage in on the scowl, which cause Powell to start wheeling and dealing. As the scowl gets closer, Ratchet jumps from the bridge to stop it. He tries to reason with Wreck-Gar, but everything fails, leaving Ratchet to unleash the ultimate weapon...he apologizes. Telling Wreck-Gar he can be whatever he wants, Wreck-Gar decides to save the city, vacuuming up the microbots. However, Wreck-Gar's backpack explodes, causing him to fall into the river. Ratchet tries to pull him out with his magnets, but only finds junk. As Bumblebee and Sari declare Ratchet a hero, Powell cries foul, saying that he destroyed his product. Thus, no deal, and the garbage dispute will continue. Ratchet picks Powell, the Mayor, and his aide, telling them to make peace or be thrown into the river. Powell and Edsel agree to a small increase to reservice the garbage bots, ending the dispute. As the bystanders cheer, Ratchet takes it as cheer for him, leading him to conclude that he does have people skills. Sari and Bumblebee know differetly, however.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the river, Wreck-Gar, neck-deep in sediment, assures the sealife that he is a hero, and is there to help. First, however, he needs a hand. Or a fin. Maybe a pelvis?
*When removing trash into a boat, Optimus transforms and suddenly his trailer evaporated, together with all the trash on it.

* Wreck-Gar's shifting allegiance and red optics as he faces down Ratchet on the garbage scow appear to be callbacks to the original Wreck-Gar, who at first appeared to be an enemy to the Autobots in his movie appearance, complete with red optics, and was even marketed as such in television commercials.

* The Animated incarnations of Spike and Carly, who made a cameo in the pilot episode, re-appear with speaking lines and even get their names called out.
* While driving Spike and Carly to the hospital, Ratchet drives past a toy store whose sign reads "Wyatt Toys." This is most likely a reference to Derrick Wyatt, art director on the show.
Miscellaneous trivia
* Even Megatron gets annoyed from Lugnut's constant worshiping. Sound familiar?

* Aside from Wreck-Gar, Weird Al also voiced the Sumdac Systems technician who explains the new version of the nanobots to Porter C. Powell.

* How exactly a single blast from Sari's key produced a fully-functioning Transformer (complete with a vehicle alt-mode) out of the contents of a garbage-scow is not addressed. Though considering Ratchet was about to throw a whole car on the scow, it isn't completely impossible to believe someone threw out a perfectly good garbage truck.

* This is the first time we see Lugnut use his mace/axe weapon. It is awesome. It gets eaten by microbots.

* Given that Carly is about to give birth and in the pilot seemed to have a wafer-thin profile, the Autobots seem to have spent at least nine months in Detroit.
AllSpark energy turns a junk pile into a sentient robot who tries to help the Autobots, but ends up doing more harm than good.

Other notes
* This episode was first shown on Friday, April 25th, at 2008. The version aired still had the time-code running in the top-left corner.

* This episode is the first to feature Ratchet's official transformation animation-sequence

Continuity errors
*When removing trash into a boat, Optimus transforms and suddenly his trailer evaporated, together with all the trash on it.

*Why don't Sari or Ratchet react to the Allspark Key when it starts to glow, indicating the presence of AllSpark energy?

Transformers references
* Wreck-Gar interprets Lugnut's incoming rocket punch as an invitation to a high-five, and he happily delivers the universal greeting.

Corey Burton even reprises his post-Movie voice for the adult Spike Witwicky.

* The motorcycle altmode of G1 Wreck-Gar can be spotted amongst the garbage that Wreck-Gar throws at Bumblebee.

Real-world references
* Wreck-Gar's "I dare to be stupid!" is, of course, a reference to one of "Weird Al" Yankovic's most well-known songs, "Dare to be Stupid", a Devo "style parody" that appeared on the soundtrack to the original animated movie in the scene with the original Wreck-Gar.

* This is the first time we see Lugnut use his mace/axe weapon. It is awesome. It gets eaten by microbots.

* Given that Carly is about to give birth and in the pilot seemed to have a wafer-thin profile, the Autobots seem to have spent at least nine months in Detroit.
