Along with fellow Targetmaster Ricochet, Artfire joined Chromedome and Daniel in attending to a fire in a large metropolitan area. Artfire and Nightstick aided those trapped in buildings while Ricochet and Nightstick used his fire hose to quench the flames.
Slugslinger, Misfire and Triggerhappy, the culprits of the blaze, arrived and made more trouble. The Autobots defeated the Decepticons quickly, and all was well. The Headmasters issue 7
A devastating nano-virus plagued the Earthbound Autobots, a plague that Headmasters or Targetmasters like Ricochet were mysteriously immune from. Perceptor charged Ricochet with leading a team of unafflicted Autobots including Artfire to Nebulos, where the supreme scientist Zella had crafted an antidote.

As Ricochet's team arrived on Nebulos, an army of Decepticons led by Straxus appeared via an inter-dimensional portal. The nano-virus was part of a larger plot to draw out the Headmasters and Targetmasters so that their Nebulan partners could be collected. As Ricochet, Kup, and Chromedome concentrated their attacks on Straxus, Ricochet slipped through the battle to pick up Zella's antidote. With Straxus defeated, the Decepticons fled.

The antidote was successful, and Artfire was there as Optimus Prime personally thanked Ricochet for his brave efforts. The Fierce Fighting on Planet Nebulos
* Being one of the last figures from The Headmasters toy run and one of the few "originals" to the Japanese toyline at the time, Artfire commands ridiculous amounts of money on the secondary market (hence the clamor for a reissue).
*In the Generations 2011 comic, Artfire's form is based on a recolor of the Universe Inferno mold with a recolored Power Core Combiners Pinpoint as his Targetmaster partner. According to artist Guido Guidi on the Allspark message board, he made up this design on his own initiative, and there weren't any plans to release it as a toy by that point. Whether the toy that was announced a year later was based on Guido's rendition, or whether it was just a coincidence, is currently unknown.
When the Autobots need drones to do the dirty work, they bring in the Scrounges. These silver drones possess a curved, smooth structure due to their "war wheel" alternate mode. They are programmed with slave drives to keep them loyal to their programmer. They would be harmless, save for the large cannons that make up their left arms.

Scrounges are powerful in numbers, and they are easily expendable. Their simple obedient personality makes them perfect whipping boys for Blaster, their current master.
Fiction
Shattered Glass
To keep Blaster out of the way while the Autobots were preparing the Ark for launch, he was given a group of Scrounges to boss around like a drill sergeant. Later when the Ark was engaged in battle with the Nemesis, Blaster suggested sending out the Scrounges. This would have ended in the Scrounges' destruction, but Blaster didn't care, failing to see their usefulness. Goldbug didn't think that was a good idea. Do Over

When Rodimus came up with a plan to hold Earth hostage for ransom by hijacking one of the humans' military bases to gain control of the planet's destructive defense satellites, Blaster thought they could simply send in the Scrounges as their plan of attack. But Rodimus decided to go for a more standard infiltration attempt instead, and ordered Blaster to lead a diversion. Blaster headed up a squad of Autobots and Scrounges to attack the base from the outside, while Rodimus, other Autobots, and their human allies attacked the base from the inside by letting themselves get "arrested".

Later, as the Decepticons made an assault to liberate the base, Blaster's squad of Scrounges attempted to keep Heatwave from reaching the satellite's controller system, but Soundwave pitched in and disabled them with the power of rock. Eye in the Sky
