The Rebirth Part 1 was to be the fourth season premiere, but due to declining interest, it simply was the first of the 3 final episodes in which a slew of new characters and concepts are introduced, most notably the US animated version of the Headmasters.

Things have been quiet for the Autobots in the months since the return of Optimus Prime and the hate plague crisis. But all that changes when Galvatron leads every functioning Decepticon on an all out assault, attacking first Autobot City, and then Cybertron itself.

During the onslaught, Kup and Hot Rod's team notice Scourge heading for the Plasma Energy Chamber. They pursue in an attempt to stop him, but when they're hit by a wave of energy from the Plasma Energy Chamber, their ship is hurled all the way to the distant planet of Nebulos.

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki, a Wikia wiki.

Beast Era is loosely-defined fan terminology. It roughly means "the years of Beast Wars and Beast Machines", and is most often used to describe the two franchises as a single entity, much as the term Unicron Trilogy encompasses Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. The Beast Era also includes the Japanese-exclusive series Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo.

The term is also sometimes used to refer to the in-fiction time period during which the Beast cartoons take place. That is, a time roughly 300 years after the end of the great wars -- the "home" time of the BW characters, and the time to which they returned at the end of the Beast Wars cartoon.

For both senses of the term, Universe is sometimes included as well, as it consists largely of BW and BM toys and characters in a fictional setting that overlaps with and extends the BW/BM fiction.

IDW's four issue mini series Beast Wars The Gathering can also be included in continuity as its premise is based on an unresolved plot point from the American Beast Wars cartoon.

Tyger Pax is a location found on the Cybertron depcited in the 2007 movie's continuity. It is both a battleground and a key feature to a strategy devised by Optimus Prime and it was made historic for several reasons: 1, Many Autobots gave their lives to ensure the plan worked. 2, It was the encounter that served as bait to distract Megatron as the Allspark was launched into space. It was the last time he was seen by any Transformer. 3, It is where Bumblebee was made a hero, distracting Megatron just long enough. The cost was his own voice box.

From Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki, a Wikia wiki.

Idea and Design Works, LLC currently owns the Transformers comic book license as of May 2005, following the financial collapse of the previous license holder, Dreamwave, at the tail-end of 2004. The flagship title is a rebooted G1 continuity written by longtime Transformers scribe Simon Furman, with art by E.J. Su (who's previously worked on G.I. Joe/Transformers Vol. 2 for Devil's Due).

IDW's main Transformers comic line is overseen by Simon Furman, who has taken a fresh approach to Generation 1 continuity. All the familiar faces are present (although some have slightly different forms), but emphasis is given to character over action and as a result the details of the continuity are more sophisticated.

Instead of an ongoing civil war on Cybertron which spills over to Earth by accident, Furman presents us with an interstellar cold war between the Autobots and Decepticons, a war of Codes of Interplanetary Conflict and alt-form-and-dagger covert operations, with Energon the prize and whole planets at stake. However, a surprising development on Earth promises to heat up the war and turn our planet from just another proxy battleground into the ultimate prize...

*Infiltration - Establishes the presence of the Transformers on modern-day Earth and re-establishes the theme of "robots in disguise" as central to the new continuity. A seven-issue story arc (issues #0 to #6).
*Escalation - Sequel to Infiltration. A six-issue story arc.
*Devastation - Reportedly the sequel to Infiltration and Escalation.
*Revelation - Reportedly the sequel to Infiltration, Escalation, and Devastation.
*Stormbringer - Companion four-issue mini-series tie-in to Infiltration, establishing Cybertron's current situation in the re-boot and focusing squarely on the Transformers.
*New Avengers/Transformers - A collaboration between Marvel Comics and IDW featuring the first ever crossover between the Transformers and New Avengers. Though it will have minimal effects on the overall universe it is specifically designed to fit into continuity between Infiltration and Escalation
*Megatron: Origins - Details the events surrounding Megatron's rise to power and the founding of the Decepticon faction.
*Spotlight - Series of one-shot stories focusing on a single Transformer per issue.

Beast Wars
Taking place within the Beast Wars Cartoon universe this line eschews the previous 3H fan club comics that previously continued the show's story to strike out in a new direction focusing mainly on the non-show toy characters.
*Beast Wars: The Gathering - Marking the 10th anniversary of the Beast Wars franchise.
*Beast Wars: The Ascending - A new Beast Wars story planned for release in August 2007.
*A Beast Wars profile series is also due August 2007.

Evolutions
*Hearts of Steel - Places the Transformers in the American west during the Industrial Revolution.
*Transformers: The Animated Movie - An adaptation of the original Transformers film, 1986's The Transformers: The Movie.

: Scorponok is a robotic scorpion superficially resembling a Zoids Death Stinger. His body is covered in military warning and command designation markings, suggesting he forms part of a larger military vehicle (hint, hint). Two wheels on the bottom of his beast mode, when pushed on a flat, smooth surface, rotates gears that causes the turbines in his body and the pincers on his arms to spin. His tail features a spring-loaded, yet non-launching stinger that extends when a latch is released.

: In beast mode, Scorponok can combine with the underside of Blackout's helicopter mode to exploit the larger Decepticon's own gear gimmick system. A geared shaft linked to Blackout's rotor mechanism connects to a geared peg on Scorponok's back. Thus, pressing the button on Blackout's tail not only rotates his blades, but also rotates Scorponok's pincers and the turbines in his body.

: Scorponok can transform into what might be charitably called a robot mode, but was most likely added as an afterthought to the design, perhaps for added play-value. In any case, this robot mode never appears in the movie.
Prequel Material
Prior to the movie's release IDW Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled Prime Directives which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to Earth. A novel, Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday, is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience into things from Sam's POV, as he learns of not only the Transfomers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

Storyline
The movie features a small, yellow Autobot named Bumblebee, who befriends the teenage human, Spike Witwicky. He and his fellow Autobots, the medic Ratchet, the rough-and-tumble cowboy Ironhide, and the smooth and super-cool Jazz (who has a car hood for a chest and a visor for eyes) are led by Optimus Prime, a red and blue robot with a distinctive mouthplate, windows in his chest and a grill in his stomach who transforms into a truck. Optimus Prime's nemesis is an evil, silver, bucket-headed robot named Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. The Decepticons' ranks include a pissed-off tank named Brawl, a mechanical scorpion named Scorponok, and a jet fighter named Starscream, who schemes to take command of the Decepticons from Megatron, as both sides battle over the legendary object that can grant new Transformer life.
Prior to the movie's release IDW Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled Prime Directives which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to Earth. A novel, Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience in from Sam's POV as he learns of not only the Transfomers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

Cybertronian leaders Optimus Prime and Lord Megatron, no longer on the same page and whose ambitions for their race have changed, are now at war which each other. Their factions, the Autobots and Decepticons, battle for ownership of the Allspark, the source of their exsistence and a wealth of powerful secrets.

During the battle of Tyger Pax, Autobots Bumblebee and Arcee lead a contingent of troops to hold off the Decepticon forces while Optimus oversees an operation to send the Allspark out into space, away from Megatron. The Decepticons overtake Bumblebee's forces and torture the troops, hoping to learn the Allspark's location. Megatron arrives to force the answer out when he witnesses the Allspark blasting off. Bumblebee restrains him long enough for the Allspark to get away. Megatron, infuriated, rips out Bumblebee's voice box and transforms to begin pursuit of the Allspark.

Starscream assumes leadership of the Decepticons in Megatron's absence and commits to their cause of finding the Allspark. Megatron's fate, however, is not as much of an interest as his troops believe it to be.

Megatron tracks the Allspark back to Earth, but falls into the Artic Ocean only to become completely frozen and not unearthed until the 1700s. Discovered by Professor Witwicky, Megatron's frozen form is kept hidden and guarded by a covert division of the American military, named Sector Seven. However, exposure to Megatron seemingly drives Witwicky insane.

Research of Megatron's form leads Sector Seven to develop a space vessel capable of traveling outside of our Solar System. Launched simaltaneously as the Apollo 11 mission, the ship successfully travels out of our corner of the galaxy. It is noticed by both the Decepticon warship The Nemesis, as well as the Autobot's transport The Ark.

Bumblebee arrives on Earth and takes the form of a 1970s Camaro as a disguise as he begins to scout not only for the Allspark, but possibly Megatron as well.

'Sparkplug' Witwicky gives his 13 year old son, Sam, an antique pair of eyeglasses that belonged to an ancestor, an ancestor who happened to be the first human to encounter a Cybertronian. Sam see them as anything special and decides he may be able to sell them one day...

This, of course, is nothing like Transformers.
