For now, I've put this in the "technology" category, although that doesn't really seem like the right place. I hesitate to even put it under "objects", where "technology" currently resides. Basically, "objects" needs a better name. Yes, I'm the one that put that name there in the first place. It still stinks.
Rattrap's quote about Carbon Scoring is, IIRC, found in Revelations. They are able to tell the bodies int he bonyard had their sparks extracted not snuffed because extinguishing a spark leaves carbon scoring.

Though inappropriate to make such a parallel connection in the G1 secon, I think it fits in prperties of sparks? (The factoid shoudl be there at any rate. S teve, it's your baby. ==BT and Linkage comments==
I've removed, for now at least, the comments about BinalTech and Linkage. I see that the Fantofan translation for Smokescreen GT mentions his spark, but the approved translations by Doug Dlin don't seem to. It's not a huge leap, I suppose, but I'd rather be more precise about it. If people think it should go back in, we can work on a better way of describing it. And, obviously, it should go in the "properties" section with the stuff about multiple bodies, rather than the "establishment" section.

Regarding Linkage: I just reread it the other night after seeing the comment that was placed in the article, and it seems to me that it is an overstatement to claim that "The manga Linkage established that Mini-Cons and humans have thier own analogues to sparks and the Allspark." Although Redline tells Stella that Mini-Con souls branched off from human souls, that does not mean that humans are part of the Linkage (which I am taking to be the Mini-Con's Allspark analog). I'm open to putting some statement about this back into the article, but I didn't like the way it was initially written.

Comments are welcome.

Mudflap has anger issues. A former Autobot and friend to Landmine, being forced to remain hidden on Earth after the evacuation of Cyberton was frustrating for this former famous boxing champion. So frustrating that when he was approached by the Decepticons, he signed up! Only time will tell if Mudflap's heart is really with the Decepticon cause.

To human ears, Mudflap speaks with a French-Canadian accent. Aside from his pugilistic skills, he's an expert in swinging his massive crane-blade, incorporating it into his free-flying limbs fighting technique.
:Japanese ID number: GD-09

: Mudflap transforms into a blue crane truck. The toy has a spring-loaded missile launcher that folds out of the crane truck's cab, activated by a Cyber Planet Key, and a ridiculously colossal energon blade that folds out of the crane with a Key as well. When fully extended, the blade and crane are about three times the height of his body. He comes with a silver-bordered Earth-style Cyber Planet Key; the Hasbro release has the Key Code "v6t7" stamped on the back. There are also a myriad of small paint application differences between the Hasbro and Takara releases of the toy.

: A special version of Mudflap was released as a Target stores exclusive, with a pair of free Mini-Cons attached to the box. Mudflap came with the Mini-Cons Tankor and Shockwave.

: This mold was going to be redecoed to make Landslide, but was ultimately canceled (for reasons stated below).

Trivia
* Mudflap was the quintessential shelfwarmer of the Cybertron toy line. For whatever reason, he simply did not sell, and eventually ended up at heavy discount in most chains.

* Mudflap's transformation was used as the basis for the non-toy character Signal Lancer's transformation.

* In late October 2005, searching for "Evac" in Amazon.com's toy section returned a bizarre statement to the effect that customers searching for "epic" tended to eventually buy Mudflap. Oddly, this result did not appear if you actually searched for "epic."

* In addition to a proposed dark green repaint as "Landslide", Mudflap was originally planned as a repaint named "Scavenger" in traditional G1 and Armada Scavenger colors.
Cybertron is the third and final Transformers franchise in the Unicron Trilogy.

The Cybertron franchise featured the following primary components:
*A toyline
*A cartoon series

A comic book series was initially planned for Cybertron, but its intended publisher, Dreamwave, went out of business before the line began. The Transformers fan club newsletter includes a short comic story in each issue which is branded with the Cybertron name. This comic, while featuring UT characters, also stars various characters from other timelines, and is loosely tied to 3H's Universe series.

Galaxy Force
Galaxy Force, the Japanese version of Cybertron, is somewhat different than its English counterpart.

The general plot and storylines remained very similar (with the exception of the usual differences in character names). The main difference between Cybertron and Galaxy Force is that the Galaxy Force cartoon has no story ties to any of the previous Transformers series. It was treated as a new stand-alone continuity featuring entirely new characters, whereas Cybertron is scripted as part of the Unicron Trilogy with many of its characters representing new forms of important characters from that continuity family.

This division leads not only to character differences but also to different takes on some key events. The Unicron Singularity (or Grand Black Hole in Japan) was not created by the destruction of Unicron in the Galaxy Force telling, but occured due to the loss of an evil cosmic balance in their ancient past.

However, liner notes in the last Galaxy Force DVD release do make links to previous series that mirror those from American material. These notes would seem to retcon Galaxy Force back into the Unicron Trilogy.

The recent official Takara timeline lists key events that tie Galaxy Force directly into the Micron universe, even attributing the black hole to Unicron's demise. Retconning is fun.

He would frequently stop Tim Hansen and his boss on their way to Tim's family's home and back.

When the universe was saved from the threat of the Unicron Singularity, Signal Lancer answered the call to travel into space and construct a new system of space bridges. Transforming, he left his post and joined Metroplex's team.

:Signal Lancer is an Autobot from the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

After the Autobots were evacuated from Cybertron to Earth, Signal Lancer is one of several Transformers who took the form of a stoplight. Located in a remote portion of the American desert, his only friend was a Transformer who turned into a pay phone located directly across the street.

:(Note: Signal Lancer was not named in the American version of the cartoon, and gets his name from Japan's Galaxy Force dub.)
:Voice actor: Paul Dobson (US), ? (Japan)

Signal Lancer was "trained" to stay put by Lori, even though a stoplight in the middle of nowhere, not even at a cross-road, was silly. Well, at least he had the pay-phone-bot to keep him company.

Tim's boss was rather confused to not see that stoplight anymore afterwards.

Cyber Key Code content
After the Omega Lock was retrieved and Galvatron finally defeated, "the Traffic Light Autobot" was commissioned by Optimus Prime to join Hightail as his partner and travel across Earth, mapping out every road on the planet.
* Signal Lancer's robot mode appears to be modeled somewhat after Mudflap, sharing the same oblong transformation scheme.

* Concept-art of Signal Lancer appeared at a Japanese toy show months before the Galaxy Force cartoon series even aired.

* According to Aaron Archer at OTFCC 04, he choose to name the Armada Mini-Con combiner robot "Perceptor" to honor the Takara employee who engineered the Street Action Team - because that employee was also responsible for engineering the original Generation 1 Perceptor toy.
: Despite being a "mass numbers" character in the fiction like the Scrapmetal, the Noisemaze Mass-Production Version's price due to being packaged with a DVD (Amazon Japan listed it at 7644 yen, roughly $66 US at the time of release before shipping) makes it largely unfeasible for army-building.

There is no longer such place as Planet X. It continues to exist solely as a codeword, an identifier for an underground army of loosely-affiliated Transformer criminals. The true number of "Planet X's" forces is unknown, and many of their identities are similarly shrouded in mystery.

What is known about Planet X is that the warriors, thieves, assassins, and other dubious characters who claim a link to it are the survivors of a dead planet. The Manifest Destiny of Planet X was to subjugate countless worlds, and it did, enslaving the natives and feeding the whole of their conquered worlds piece-by-piece into the World Furnaces that powered it. But their expansion ended at contact with Gigantion, the Giant Planet. As a result of the battle between the two planets, Planet X went nova. The few survivors, driven mad in their quest for vengeance, made a deal with no less a force than Unicron himself, offering their services in exchange for the destruction of the hated Giant Planet.

The Decepticons Sideways, Soundwave and Soundblaster are currently the only known Planet X operatives. However, swarms of bird-drones left over from the planet's mass armies still exist, and are just as dangerous as they were back when Planet X was whole.

(Note: It is theoretically possible that earlier Unicron Trilogy characters with Unicronian affiliations, such as Nemesis Prime could be connected to Planet X.)

Galaxy Force
According to the booklet included with the final Japanese Galaxy Force DVD release, Planet X itself was the living body of a Unicron from a parellel universe that went into a frenzy repair mode after Master Megatron absorbed Unicron's spark. Planet X's repair systems went mad and resurrected a portion of Transformers it had absorbed from Cybertron to manage its frantic systems. These beings were the agents of Planet X and unknowing servants of Unicron. For decades, they took over other worlds for fuel in a galactic conquest.

Soundwave, a data analyst, dug deep into their planet and found a massive memory bank belonging to Unicron. Soundwave and the others moved the data to their own memory banks and began to study it. Planet X eventually travelled to a parallel universe in search of energy and encountered Gigalonia, eventually unlocking the full potential of their planet, and destroying themselves in the process. Long after Planet X's explosion, Soundwave was able to learn of Primus, the Cyber Planet Keys, and their ties to Gigalonia. Soundwave and the few survivors of Planet X are looking to use these things to resurrect their homeworld and destroy Gigalonia.

Shortly after the conclusion of Galaxy Force, Soundwave and Sideways escaped fire space to examine the dimension they had been transported to after the climactic explosion between Master Galvatron and Super Starscream. In this universe they found another Planet X, not yet destroyed.

In addition, the official Takara Micron Trilogy timeline has added the events of Galaxy Force into the Super-link/Micron family. It states Planet X actually PULLED Gigalonia into their own universe through that wormhole that opens between our universe and theirs with the intention of stripping it of resourcs and making it their new home. Gigalonia fought back and Planet X destroyed itself by accident. Planet X was destroyed during our 6th Century, roughly 1400 years prior to the series.

Doug Dlin translated Takara's official Micron Trilogy timeline. Alpha Q's original home planet IS named Quintessa. Unicron attacked it in 2003 after escaping the Unicron Battles incident. Unicron ended up in an alternate dimension and devoured Quintessa's entire universe before turning on Planet Q. Unicron's damage due to Quintessa's explosion sent him back into 'this' universe, at the very edge of the universe, and he fell into stasis.

:Prowl is an Autobot character in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Prowl is the Autobot military strategist. As such, Autobot Commander Optimus Prime will keep Prowl near at hand for his indispensable expertise. He does not react well to the unsuspected and despises disorder. He believes his dedication to logic and rational thought puts him next in line for Optimus Prime's job and dreams of making grand speeches -- even though in reality he's stoic and uncharismatic.

He really doesn't tend to get along well with his fellow Autobots, many of whom find his strict adherence to military protocol stifling, and his uptight personality sure doesn't help matters. The Dinobot commander Grimlock especially honks Prowl off, and Grimlock feels pretty much the same way in return, only with more swear words.

A possible alternate-universe version of Prowl is active during the Universe conflict.

Voice actor: Michael Bell (US), Toshirō Ishii (Japan)<br>

Prowl was part of the crew of the Ark, the Autobot starship that left Cyberton looking for alternate sources of energy only to crashland on Earth. Four million years later, the Transformers were reawakened and reformatted by Teletraan-1. Despite being situated in the United States, Prowl was reformatted as a Japanese police car. No one seemed to notice.

On Earth, Prowl continued to serve as Optimus Prime's right hand man, filling the role of military advisor and strategist. His precision thinking and by-the-books planning served as a valuable counterpoint to Jazz's more improvisational style, and it was up to Optimus Prime to weigh their views and come to a decision.

During an attack against Decepticons, Prowl's battle computer was knocked offline by a particularly fierce blow. Crippled, Prowl extended his antenna to seek out an online computer that he could patch into. He found Chip Chase's desktop terminal, and the young human ally momentarily took control of Prowl, animating the massive Autobot warrior with his computer.

Prowl met his maker in the year 2005, alongside fellow Autobots Ironhide, Brawn and Ratchet. During a Decepticon assault of a shuttle run to earth from Moonbase One for energon. He was felled by a single blast from Scavenger, proving that a stylish leap when you fire your gun is all that was needed for Decepticon weapons to actually kill someone.

Headmasters cartoon
Prowl appears as an extra on Earth, even though he died in the movie ten years or so previously.

(Note: Prowl's revival can be chalked up to error, especially since the Movie did not actually reach Japan until many years later.)
Prowl is the leader of a detachment of Autobots that has operated covertly on Earth for at least four years, attempting to foil a Decepticon insurgency. He almost throws Ratchet in the brig for breaking cover to rescue three humans from the Decepticons, and subsequently refuses to contact Optimus Prime until further evidence of enemy activities is uncovered. He does not willingly believe Ratchet when the medic tells him that the Decepticons have stepped up their presence by constructing a second base.
Toys
Generation 1
* Prowl (Autobot Car, 1984/1985/1990/2002/2003)
: Japanese ID number: 09, TFC-02

: Prowl was part of the first series of Autobots released in 1984, reusing a mold originally developed for a Diaclone Datsun Fairlady Z (280 ZX) police car, with his decals altered to remove the "Diaclone" marks. (The European "Classic Heroes" re-release retained the Diaclone stickers, for unknown reasons).

: In 1985, Mexico imported Transformers, but there were some notable changes on numerous toys. Prowl's helmet, arms, and boots turned black, plus his "POLICE" decals became "POLICIA". There was also a wide running change (or just factory error) that left out the black paint on his car hood.

: In 2002, Prowl was re-released as part of the Transformers Collection series in Japan. This version has slightly-altered decals, and fully-functional spring-loaded missile launchers.

: In 2003, Prowl was released as part of the Toys "R" Us exclusive "Commemorative Series" line in the US. This version of Prowl uses a softer , unchromed black plastic for his rifle and missiles owing to breakage issues, plus his launchers are completely non-firing. He uses the same decals as the Japanese "bookbox" release.

: The same mold was used for Bluestreak and Smokescreen.

* Prowl (Action Master Blaster, 1990)

: A non-transforming action figure, Action Master Prowl is modeled after his cartoon model with a few toy-based liberties taken. He came with his Turbo Cycle vehicle, though the main figure was comatible with all other Action Master vehciles and weapons.

Machine Wars
* Prowl (Basic, 1997)

: Sharing a mold with Machine Wars Mirage, Prowl transforms into a Formula-1 race car, and converts to robot mode with a spring-loaded, one-step transformation. His rifle-halves store in his legs in car mode. He --and the entire Machine Wars line-- was available only at Kay-Bee stores.

: Prowl's usual function is strategist, but, in an ironic twist, in this first non-police car form he's described as chief of security.

: This mold was also used to make Robots in Disguise Skid-Z.

Smallest Transformers
* Prowl (2003)
: Japanese ID number: GTF-09

: Released in Wave 2 of Smallest Transformers, STF Prowl is the smallest possible transforming toy based upon the original Prowl toy. He faithfully repoduces the transformation sequence for the most part, but due to parts-cost limitations, he has little articulation, his legs cannot seperate and his wheels do not roll.

Alternators
* Prowl (Alternator, 2005/2006)
: Japanese ID number: BT-15

: Alternators Prowl transforms into a 1:24-scale Acura RSX car with police lights, opening doors, hood and trunk. His engine becomes a (non-firing) gun, while a clear-plastic nightstick is hidden under his car-mode rear section. He was among the last of the "red box" Alternators, but was included in new "white box" assortments in 2006.

: For his standard Japanse Binaltech release, Prowl got a different vehicle mode deco based on a real Japanese police car (the Hasbro version's deco being based more on the original Generation 1 toy), a different spoiler mold, and gray plastic instead of stony-blue. He was also labeled as a "Honda Integra Type-R", the model's make in Japan.

: Like Jazz, Prowl got two different decos released in equal numbers. The second version is a civilian version with a different spoiler (different even from the Hasbro Prowl), no police lights, and a solid blue car-shell. His robot-mode parts remained the same color, however.

: This mold (the Japanese blue Prowl variant, at least) was used to make Alternators Camshaft.

: The Hasbro version of Prowl, using the Hasbro red box packaging, was supposed to have been released in Japan as an exclusive to a satellite TV provider. The only notable difference from the Hasbro version was the "Satellite Patrol" markings on his doors. It is unknown if this toy was ever actually released, however.

Universe
*Prowl (Autobot, 2005)

: A redeco of the Robots in Disguise Prowl 2 mold, Universe Prowl transforms into a Chevrolet Caprice police car with through-axle construction for super-speedy rolling on smooth surfaces. His gun hides as his car mode's tailpipe. Originally only available at Kay-Bee stores in packaging with no sub-line markings, his entire assorment was later repackaged under the Universe banner and sold through "dollar store" chains like Family Dollar.

Attacktix
*Prowl (Booster, 2007)

: Introduced in Series 2 of Attacktix, Prowl is a Captain class unit with the special ability to stun an opposing player unit. His sculpt is based upon his G1 cartoon model with some additional details. His weapon is a hugely oversized version of his rifle, capable of firing a large silver projectile.

Trivia
* Prowl's Diaclone precedessor also came with additional optional stickers that would identify him as being part of the police forces from existing Japanese cities, namely "Tokyo City", "Sapporo City", "Sendai City", "Osaka City" and "Fukuoka City".

* The original Transformers instructions booklet shows a visible Japanese label sheet complete with the Imperial chrysanthemum emblem found on Japanese police cars, which did not make it to final product.

* Machine Wars Prowl's card-art is actually an altered version of the art for the Generation 2 Laser Rod Jolt.

* At OTFCC 2004 Hasbro stated that there was no Prowl Alternator in the works, but some other emergency vehicle (which got a chorus of boos). When no non-Prowl emergency vehicle appeared, suspicions arose, and fans speculated that the Prowl mold was originally intended to be Red Alert. The Alternator's general transformation scheme is reminiscent of the Red Alert mold, but that holds little water in the world of Alternators. Later, a listing for "Alternators Red Alert" appeared on Hasbro's web site, with Prowl's image, seemingly confirming the theory. Careful study of his control art in the Binaltech version's booklet also reveals that the Prowl head appears to have been digitally added onto the original line-art, due to differing line-thickness. The official Binaltech guide also contains a tiny picture of the instruction booklet art, complete with a Red Alert head miscolored to look like Prowl.
