He is all "blunt force" in contrast to [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream's]] penchant for deceipt and trickery. On the down side, Megatron tends to become so obsessed with the object of his desires that he can ignore "secondary" matters and glaring flaws in his plans (otherwise, he likely wouldn't have crashed into ice-cold arctic water and spent millions of years as a popsicle).

Megatron led his Decepticons to Earth in the year 2010, in pursuit of the small race of power-enhancing Transformers known as [[Mini-Cons]]. Establishing a base in the ruined hulk of the Mini-Con ship on Earth's moon, Megatron waged a generally successful campaign against the Autobots, regularly capturing Mini-Cons and successfully combining the first two Mini-Con weapons, the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] and the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]]. Through the machinations of his tactician, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] (who was at the time indirectly being manipulated by [[Unicron]]), Megatron then acquired the final weapon, the [[Requiem Blaster]], which was with the other two served to power the newly-built [[Hydra Cannon]]. The destructive force of his new weapon was unleashed against Earth, but [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] took the blast to save the planet, killing himself in the process.

Prime's death plunged Megatron into a deep depression, having lost his greatest opponent without the chance to finish him with his own hands. Thankfully for all concerned, the Mini-Cons were able to resurrect Optimus, restoring Megatron to his former self - but he soon underwent another change that allowed him to surpass all he had been, when he was among the Transformers who had their powers boosted by their Mini-Cons. Renaming himself "Galvatron," he returned to Cybertron with a renewed vigour for conquest. However, the emergence of the threat of Unicron was ignored by Galvatron, forcing his lieutenant [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] to sacrifice himself to make his leader see the truth, and Galvatron again came to fear the end of his war in the face of Unicron's power. Although he was believed dead by both the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron, like Unicron, had survived the final battle, his body now a decayed husk, absorbed into the equally damaged body of Unicron, where it lay for ten years. When the being called [[Alpha Q]] began his plan to re-energise Unicron, Megatron saw his opportunity, syphoning off some of the [[energon]] that Alpha Q's [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] stole, working towards his own rebirth. To turn the Decepticons to his side, Alpha Q forged a sword from Megatron's [[spark]], but when an enraged [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] stabbed Megatron's corpse with the blade, Megatron was born anew. Taking the sword for his own, he proceeded to take over Unicron's body, sending Alpha Q fleeing in Unicron's head, and restarted his campaign against Earth and the Autobots, seeking energon to reactivate Unicron, who he would use as the ultimate weapon.

However, the chaos-bringer's consciousness invaded Megatron's body, taking over his mind.

Although [[Optimus Supreme]] was able to destroy Unicron's body, his mind lived on, buried within Megatron, subtly directing him to attack Cybertron and uncover a reservoir of Super Energon beneath the planet's surface. Megatron immersed himself in the powerful liquid and underwent another power boost, once again taking the name of Galvatron. Quickly acquiring control of the planet, he forced the Autobots underground with energon gas and used the planet's Energon Towers to relocate Cybertron to Alpha Q's region of space. Once there, Galvatron once again soaked himself in Super Energon, growing to a colossal height, but as he did so, Unicron's influence totally seized control of his mind and directed him out into space to re-merge with his spark. Optimus Prime forced him into a battle, knowing that Galvatron's hatred of him would force his consciousness to surface again, and when it did, Prime drained Unicron's influence from Galvatron, sealing it within himself.

Enraged by Unicron's manipulations, Galvatron intended to destroy Unicron's spark, but wound up being possessed by it once more. While struggling to fight the control of Unicron, he was confronted by Optimus Prime once again, and rather than fight him, he plunged himself into the foundling sun created by Primus, igniting the star and once again seemingly destroying himself rather than allow Unicron victory.

Ten years later, Primus's plan to imprison Unicron's spark at the heart of the sun ultimately failed, leading the star to collapse, creating a [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] which threatened the existence of Cybertron, and the rest of the universe. Escaping his confinement within the sun, Megatron enhanced his powers by merging his body with the remnants of Unicron's shattered form, increasing his power with the dark god's own.

As the Autobots prepared to evacuate Cybertron in the wake of disasters caused by the black hole, Megatron struck, approaching the unprotected ancient Transformer [[Vector Prime]], and stealing a holographic map containing locations of the [[Cyber Planet Key]]s that could be used to seal the black hole. Operating out of a fiery pocket dimension, Megatron schemed to used the world-shaping power of the Cyber Planet Keys and their focal [[Omega Lock]] to accelerate the universal degeneration created by the black hole, destroying the universe and using the keys to remake it in his own image.

Leaving [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] and [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]] to search for the Omega Lock on Earth, Megatron located the resting place of the first Cyber Planet Key on [[Velocitron]], the Speed Planet. Recruiting the native troublemakers [[Ransack (Cybertron)|Ransack]] and [[Crumplezone (Cybertron)|Crumplezone]] to do his bidding, he deduced that the planet's racing trophy was the key. After failing to defeat planet ruler [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] in a race to learn more, however, he left Ransack and Crumplezone to compete in tournaments and win the trophy and turned his attention to the [[Jungle Planet]], home of the second Cyber Planet Key, where he ingratiated himself with planet ruler [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]]. Both missions ultimately ended in failure, however, when the Autobots acquired the keys.

Attempting to find the third key, Megatron discovered that he had been betrayed by Starscream when the planet map - in reality, a duplicate switched out by Starscream - led him to a dead sector of space and sealed him within a metallic sphere. Scourge was able to liberate him a short time later, but in that time, Starscream had obtained the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth, for himself, along with the Omega Lock and other keys. Megatron made a beeline for his treacherous lieutenant, but was intercepted by the Autobots [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Scattorshot]], who intended to hold him off until the other Autobots could stop Starscream. Starscream's attempts to harness the Earth Key, however, caused a release of its energies which endowed Megatron with a new Cyber Key power - the "Death Machine Gun," which he used to mow down the Autobots in his path.

The Autobots managed to retake the keys from Starscream, but a further attack from Megatron saw the Decepticon leader steal them out from under Optimus Prime's nose and retreat into his pocket dimension. Prime pursued him through the portal and defeated him in a pitched battle, reacquiring the lock and returning to Cybertron. As Megatron attempted to follow him, Vector Prime combined his portal-opening powers with the Cyber Planet Keys and collapsed Megatron's dimension in upon itself, destroying the villain.

This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. In this state, he rematerialised on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. As he came under attack from the Autobot [[Leobreaker]], his regeneration completed and his physical body was restored, even as he used the remainder of the lingering darkness to create an evil doppleganger of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], out of the Autobots own dark thoughts. Merging with Nemesis Breaker to form Dark Claw Mode, Megatron battled Optimus Prime and Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode and made a further play for the Omega Lock, until news of the location of the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key led him to withdraw.

Guided through a spatial warp by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] to [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet, home of the final key, Megatron engaged the world's leader, [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]], in battle. Much to his surprise, however, he was utterly defeated in seconds. Consumed with rage, the power of Unicron within his armour reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron.

After taking revenge on Metroplex, Galvatron joined the race to acquire the Giant Play key, which included a rematch the reborn Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot. Yet again, the Autobots were able to acquire the key, but Galvatron then stole the completed Omega Lock, only to be attacked by Starscream, who battled with Galvatron for possession of the artefact. Galvatron ultimately claimed victory in the battle, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream into another universe. With the lock and keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the Black Hole, where he was confronted and finally defeated by the five planet leaders.

Having had ultimate power torn form his grasp, Galvatron contemplated giving up, but when Starscream's spirit reached out to him and goaded him into continuing his vendetta, he challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. Battling on Cybertron's moon, Galvatron generated a massive blade of dark energy, which Prime countered with Vector Prime's sword. As the two old enemies charged towards each other in a final strike, Prime impaled Galvatron, whose body crumbled and dissolved as he met his end once and for all.

In a montage sequence at the conclusion of the series, however, Galvatron's evil proved eternal, as, beyond the veil of time and space, his spark battled with that of Vector Prime.

Having had ultimate power torn form his grasp, Galvatron contemplated giving up, but when Starscream's spirit reached out to him and goaded him into continuing his vendetta, he challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. Battling on Cybertron's moon, Galvatron generated a massive blade of dark energy, which Prime countered with Vector Prime's sword. As the two old enemies charged towards each other in a final strike, Prime impaled Galvatron, whose body crumbled and dissolved as he met his end once and for all.

In a montage sequence at the conclusion of the series, however, Galvatron's evil proved eternal, as, beyond the veil of time and space, his spark battled with that of Vector Prime.

Starscream's attempts to harness the Earth Key, however, caused a release of its energies which endowed Megatron with a new Cyber Key power - the "Death Machine Gun," which he used to mow down the Autobots in his path.

The Autobots managed to retake the keys from Starscream, but a further attack from Megatron saw the Decepticon leader steal them out from under Optimus Prime's nose and retreat into his pocket dimension. Prime pursued him through the portal and defeated him in a pitched battle, reacquiring the lock and returning to Cybertron. As Megatron attempted to follow him, Vector Prime combined his portal-opening powers with the Cyber Planet Keys and collapsed Megatron's dimension in upon itself, destroying the villain.

This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. In this state, he rematerialised on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. As he came under attack from the Autobot [[Leobreaker]], his regeneration completed and his physical body was restored, even as he used the remainder of the lingering darkness to create an evil doppleganger of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], out of the Autobots own dark thoughts. Merging with Nemesis Breaker to form Dark Claw Mode, Megatron battled Optimus Prime and Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode and made a further play for the Omega Lock, until news of the location of the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key led him to withdraw.

Guided through a spatial warp by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] to [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet, home of the final key, Megatron engaged the world's leader, [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]], in battle. Much to his surprise, however, he was utterly defeated in seconds. Consumed with rage, the power of Unicron within his armour reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron.

After taking revenge on Metroplex, Galvatron joined the race to acquire the Giant Play key, which included a rematch the reborn Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot. Yet again, the Autobots were able to acquire the key, but Galvatron then stole the completed Omega Lock, only to be attacked by Starscream, who battled with Galvatron for possession of the artefact. Galvatron ultimately claimed victory in the battle, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream into another universe. With the lock and keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the Black Hole, where he was confronted and finally defeated by the five planet leaders.

Having had ultimate power torn form his grasp, Galvatron contemplated giving up, but when Starscream's spirit reached out to him and goaded him into continuing his vendetta, he challenged Optimus Prime to one final duel. Battling on Cybertron's moon, Galvatron generated a massive blade of dark energy, which Prime countered with Vector Prime's sword. As the two old enemies charged towards each other in a final strike, Prime impaled Galvatron, whose body crumbled and dissolved as he met his end once and for all.

In a montage sequence at the conclusion of the series, however, Galvatron's evil proved eternal, as, beyond the veil of time and space, his spark battled with that of Vector Prime.

Losing his friends sent him to the Autobots' side, though as a worker, not a fighter. His primary function is in the discovery and procurement of enery sources, travelling [[Earth]] for long periods in his search. He does have incredible physical strength, plus the ability to launch both of his fists from their wrist-sockets, which he can then remote-control to perform tasks normally beyond his reach.

Load Hauler is subject to flights of fancy, especially when it comes to his appearance. As such, oftentimes he will return from one of his long soujurns a completely different color than he left in.

Thunderwing first appeared in issue #60 (Yesterday's Heroes) when he orders [[Bludgeon]]'s "Mayhem Attack Squad" (which consists of Bludgeon, Octopunch and Stranglehold) to find and kill the Autobot Pretenders.

It was at the beginning of the [[Matrix Quest]] that Thunderwing began to take things into his own hands. After learning of the Matrix from some captured Autobots, he realized that it was the key to power beyond comprehension. His obsession with finding the Creation Matrix caused some concerns for the Decepticons under his command (as they did not know of the Matrix's true power), he even attacked his own troops when accused of taking his personal quest too far.

It was at this time that Thunderwing revealed that he was one of the select few Transformers, and indeed, the only Decepticon, to possess a natural affinity for the Matrix. He was one of the very few who could actually use the powers of The Matrix.

After forming a psychic link with an immense whale-like alien called a [[Kludd]] whom had been restored from the brink of extinction by the Matrix's power, Thunderwing learned where the Matrix was last seen: The Third Moon of Cameron. Thunderwing immediately set out to retrieve it, much to the disapproval of his troops.

As it would happen, between the revival of the Kludd and the arrival of Thunderwing, The Creation Matrix had become warped. A dying alien "Deathbringer" touches The Matrix, and is fully healed and recreated by it's power. This malevolent entity gave The Matrix it's first taste of evil. Later, another creature finds the Matrix. This one, a parasitic insect which exists purely to kill and destroy. The Matrix, now quite fascinated by the nature of darkness, restored and improved the creature, considering it to be the single most evil creature it had ever seen. This new creature was referred to as the [[Matrix Spawn]]. Which would serve as its vessel.

Meanwhile, the Autobot Pretenders (who had escaped from the Mayhem Attack Squad arrived on Cameron, after hearing the reports of a research team on that moon, which discovered an incredible power source inside [[Optimus Prime]]'s old body, alongside the Matrix Spawn creature. Which the autobots assumed to be Creation Matrix.

When Thunderwing arrived on Cameron, he met, and attacked, the Autobot Pretenders. The battle was pre-empted by the arrival of the Matrix Spawn however. Thunderwing, possessing a natural affinity for The Matrix, managed to catch The Spawn off guard, causing it to flee with Thunderwing in pursuit.

The Spawn fled straight to The Matrix, where it met Thunderwing in mortal combat. The Spawn was defeated, and The Matrix was Thunderwings prize.

===All Fall Down===

After nearly beating Optimus Prime to death with his bare hands, the other Decepticons under Thunderwings command realized how completely Thunderwing had fallen, and turned against him. After being damaged by one of the Pretenders, the true scope of relationship between The Matrix and Thunderwing was revealed. The Matrix's newly found evil influence was even enough to dwarf Thunderwings own judgement, and was controlling him!

After Thunderwing (or "The Vessel" as the Matrix called him) was damaged, The Matrix manifested itself as an immense-spectral demon. This new entity proved to be too much for both Autobots and Decepticons to handle. After seeing what he had become, Thunderwing struggled to break free of The Matrix's control. While the Thunderwing/Matrix was distracted, the course of the battle shifted.

During the turmoil, the Autobots who had been captured by the Pretenders earliar in the Matrix Quest story-line had gotten free and managed to fire the Decepticon ships grappling hook into Thunderwings shoulder. They then launched the ship out of the Ark, and detonated it. Apparently destroying both Thunderwing and the Matrix. Saving all the Transformers on board, but leaving no method for defending themselves from the coming threat of [[Unicron]]

===The Death of Thunderwing===
Only when Unicron finally arrived on Cybertron, did The Corrupted Matrix and Thunderwing reappear.

Despite now being corrupted and enraptured by the nature of darkness, The Matrix was created to destroy Unicron. It could not deny this aspect of its existence.

Sensing it's ancient nemesis, The Matrix rebuilt Thunderwing, who promptly sped to Cybertron. Unfortunately, ''because'' the Matrix was now a product of evil, it had no effect upon Unicron, who devoured and destroyed the decepticon completely, ending Thunderwings career permanently.

Alpha Q gained Starscream's loyalty by telling Starscream he needed to gather more Energon so they could finish the process.

Starscream failed an assassination attempt on [[Megatron (UT)|Megatron]], who unleashed a torrent of vicious mind-games and abuse on the zombie. From then on Starscream was once again Megatron's loyal second-in-command, the latter of whom likely enjoyed the fact that this reincarnated version retained all of Starscream's skill, but none of his ambition.

Later, Megatron found the Super Energon Pool and upgraded himself to Galvatron. Starscream was the first to join him, and his form and colors were powered up. When Galvatron sacrificed himself by throwing himself into the newborn Energon sun in an attempt to destroy Unicron's essence once and for all, Starscream followed him.

Galaxy Force/Cybertron Toy.

Starscream's Robot form looks much the same as it always has, with his alt being a furturistic space/jet fighter. This Alt form looks like it may have been inspired by his form in the G1 cartoon on Cybertron before he took on his jet fighter form.
Hasbro seems to have realised Starscream is popular among collectors, as when bringing over the Galaxy Force version of him, they made it only possible to buy him in more expensive forms. He is advailable as a Giant "Supreme" line toy, or his original size in a double pack with Vector Prime, who was released before and likely to be in the collections of many collectors already. Even though, he is still likely to be just as popular with collectors as ever.

Supreme Starscream comes with a Decepticon Crown of Leadership(identical to the one in the Movie), two Planet Force Keys, and a Null-Ray Missile. He is different from the Original Japanese in a few other ways than size. One of his swing-out blades has been released with a "Null-Ray", apparently as reference to his G1 form; his swing out features are activated by two separate force slots(leaving the original one in his back as a key holder); the turrents on the side of the cockpit can also be aimed. I am also guessing the lights and sounds have been been changed for this version. One strange detail is that moving his sword arm makes sounds and lights, including his eyes, which react to no other feature.

He will subjugate them, bend them to his will, carve up their corpse and integrate their power into himself. He is a monster. Megatron tempers this barbarism with regal militaristic formality. He calls his closest troops "gentlemen." He speaks politely and intelligently. He makes it perfectly clear that he is completely cognizant of his madness.

Megatron's only weakness is his obsession with [[Optimus_Prime_(UT)|Optimus Prime]]. No matter how much power he attains, his final, glorious battle must be against him. Devil Z is a Destron entity which posseses vast power, but no true body of its own. It resembles a human embryo, encased in a glowing ball of energy.

Thousands of years ago, Devil Z stole the 9 [[Godmaster]] [[Transtectors]] from the Z Nebula and placed them on [[Earth]], in order to soak up the energy needed to power them.

==Modern day activity==
Devil Z came to lead both the Destrons stranded on Earth and a Destron-worshipping human cult. Lacking a physical form, it laid low until [[Black Zarak]] came to Earth. Devil-Z possessed Black Zarak's body, killing [[Lord Zarak|Scorponok]] in the process. Devil-Z (now calling himself Devil Zarak) used his new powers to turn the [[Darkwings]] into true robots, unleashing them upon the Earth in order to destroy humanity's spirit. Devil Zarak was eventually lured into a final battle with [[God Ginrai]]. After taking heavy damage from the Autobot leader, Devil Zarak shifted into a new, powerful two-headed serpent mode. The serpent mode proved unable to stop God Ginrai's Fire Guts attack, however, and Devil Zarak was destroyed.

As a young, charismatic combatant in the gladatorial pits, he began to believe in a grand purpose for his race -- it is the Transformers' glorious destiny to rule. He feels great contempt for other Transformers who, he feels, betray their proud heritage by demanding peace and cooperation with weaker life forms.

Megatron will attempt almost anything to achieve his goals, but his schemes are never in any way subtle. This is perhaps due to his arrogance, but his pride is not so strong as to dissuade him from abandoning a battle he is losing. Some would question his sanity, though these few are mostly now dead by his hands.

Megatron is a Decepticon, one of the lineal descendants of the military hardware robots created by the [[Quintessons]] on their factory world of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Following a war between the Decepticons and the other robot race, the [[Autobots]], the Decepticons were defeated by the Autobots' invention of transformation, which allowed them the advantange of stealth. The Autobot victory in the war began the [[Golden Age of Cybertron]], but a viper lurked within this paradise, as the Decepticons too eventually developed transformation, eventually leading to the creation of Megatron. Gathering a small number of troops together, Megatron made a small strike on an outer city, killing the current Autobot leader. However, this event was not made public knowledge, and young robots like the naive [[Orion Pax]] still looked up to Megatron and his followers because of their new robot-mode flight powers. However, Pax soon learned the error of his ways when Megatron duped him into allowing him access to [[Energon (Power Source)|Energon]] warehouses, and Megatron fatally injured him in a scuffle. However, the ancient Autobot, [[Alpha Trion]], reconstructed Pax into a battle hardy configuration - now, he was [[Optimus Prime]], leader of the Autobots and Megatron's sworn opponent as the civil war erupted again.

Eventually, the war drained Cybertron of most of its energy, necessitating that both factions seek out new worlds and new sources of power. Megatron and his elite forces pursued the Autobots' craft, (referred to as the [[The Ark (Transformers)|Ark]] in Beast Wars, following the ship's name from the G1 Marvel Comics) in their star cruiser (referred to as the [[Nemesis (Transformers)|Nemesis]] in Beast Wars) and attacked and boarded the craft, causing it to crash on a prehistoric planet, entombing all on the ship in emergency stasis as it crashed into a dormant volcano.

Four million years later, a volcanic eruption reactivated the Transformers and the war began again on the energy-rich world they found themselves on; Earth. After their first series of battles, the Autobots believed Megatron and the Decepticons destroyed when their new space cruiser crashed into the [[Pacific Ocean]], but in reality they survived and reconstructed the cruiser to serve as a sub-oceanic staging base and bunker. Megatron re-established contact with Cybertron, and began construction of an intergalactic transport system called a "space bridge," although the early tests nearly resulted in his destruction when he was sucked into the portal and teleported to Cybertron. The technology was eventually stabilised, however, and used in a grand scheme to transport Cybertron through space into Earth's orbit, where the natural disasters its gravity wreaked created tremendous energy that Megatron and the Decepticons gathered. The Earth was saved, however, when Megatron's stockpiles of energy were detonated by the Autobots, the explosion forcing Cybertron out of orbit. Again, however, Megatron was able to cheat death, and was forced to team up with Optimus Prime in order to stop the machinations of his treacherous lieutenant, Starscream.

In his next scheme, Megatron absorbed all the separate powers of the other Decepticons into himself, and challenged Optimus Prime to one-on-one combat. With the added abilities of all his minions, Megatron easily defeated Prime in the battle, but when his deception was revealed, he and his followers were defeated in a group attack.

Over the following years, Megatron's schemes to obtain Earth's energies continued. His assorted plans included various attempts to harness the power of Earth's core, thefts of several unstable energy devices from human scientists, the draining of energy from a time-lost prehistoric island, and partnership with a human politician that allowed him to force the Autobots off of Earth, and actually allowed him to conquer Central City among many, many others.

Eventually, however, Megatron turned his attention away from Earth, and succeeded in completely conquering Cybertron by the Earth year 2005. Learning the Autobots were preparing a strike against the planet, Megatron and the Decepticons intercepted the shuttle sent to Earth to acquire energy to power the raid, and unleashed a mighty assault on [[Autobot City]]. In the course of the conflict, word was sent to Optimus Prime, who arrived the following morning after the slaughter and confronted Megatron in another one-on-one struggle. Megatron appeared beaten, but spying a discarded pistol, stalled for time by pleading for mercy as he attempted to reach it. The young Autobot Hot Rod then intervened, tackling Megatron, but the Decepticon was too powerful for him, seizing him and using him as shield as he grabbed the pistol and opened fire on Prime. The wounds were fatal and sent Prime to the grave - but not before he delivered his own final blow to Megatron, seriously damaging him and forcing the Decepticons to flee.

On the return trip to Cybertron, it became necessary to jettison excess mass, or the Decepticons would be unable to reach the planet. The wounded Decepticons were voted out, and set adrift in space, including Megatron. But this was not to be the end for the great slag-maker, as the world-devourer, [[Unicron]], found him and recreated him into [[Galvatron]].

With his transformation into Galvatron, Megatron departed from the animated continuity, until five years later, in the Japanese-exclusive storyline, ''Battlestars: The Return of Convoy'', which, although not animated itself (told instead through one chapter of [[manga]] and colour magazine spreads), continues the tale of the cartoon universe. In the previous Japanese-exclusive animated series, ''[[Headmasters]]'', Galvatron had been apparently destroyed when he was buried on an iceberg. In the ''Return of Convoy'' storyline, a new evil force named Dark Nova recovers Galvatron's body, and restores him to life as '''Super Megatron''', pitting him against Star Convoy (the reborn Optimus Prime) and his Autobots. Super Megatron subsequently gets an upgrade to '''Ultra Megatron''', and for the final battle, merges with Dark Nova himself, becoming '''Star Giant'''.

====Generation 2 Manga====
After Battlestars, Megatron appeared to have discarded his evil ways, and he joined with Optimus Prime to form the Cybertron Alliance. However, after human soldiers killed one of his troops, he adopted a new body and began the war anew. After Optimus Prime was fataly wounded by Megatron, Prime used his [[Reconfiguration Matrix]] to transform himself into Laser Optimus Prime. Prime managed to drive the Decepticon forces into retreat.

Rising from his beginnings as a gladiator for the city-state of Tarn, Megatron and the Decepticons were the ones who developed transformation first, using it to begin the war against the Autobots, who fought back by mimicking the technology. In time, the war grew so fierce that Cybertron itself was shaken from its orbit, and set adrift in the cosmos. Eventually, four million years ago, the planet fell into the path of an asteroid cluster in the Sol system that threatened to destroy it, and so Optimus Prime led a contingent of his troops in the Ark to reduce the asteroids to rubble, saving Cybertron. The plan was a success, but immediately afterwards, Megatron and his troops attack, forcing Optimus Prime to crash the Ark into prehistoric Earth.

Four million years later, in 1984, the Transformers were reawakened, and Megatron immediately set about trying to locate a source of fuel for the Decepticons. Unable to ingest common Earth gasoline, the Decepticons kidnapped [[Witwicky Family|Sparkplug Witwicky]] and forced him to develop a conversion process, but this only afforded him the chance to poison their fuel, deactivating them all. The Autobots were not saved, however, as [[Shockwave_(G1)|Shockwave]] then defeated them all and brought the Decepticons back online to serve him - including Megatron. Chafing under his command, Megatron battled Shockwave, but was soundly defeated, forcing him into an alliance with [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], who located and reactivated the [[Dinobots]], who had defeated Shockwave in the past. However, Ratchet loosed them on Megatron, and was willing to sacrifice himself to knock Megatron off a cliff. While Ratchet survived, Megatron disappeared for some time.

Soon, however, Megatron re-emerged, trapped in pistol mode, his higher brain functions disconnected. Used as a weapon by wannabe gangster, [[Joey Slick]], Megatron eventually restored himself, and was impressed enough with Slick for standing up to him that he allowed him to live. But at this point, Megatron was desperately low on fuel, and attacked a coal mine, attempting to locate some, when he eventually completely ran out, and froze in place. He was soon located by [[Soundwave (Transformers)|Soundwave]], who brought him back online, and they subsequently entered into an alliance with the human Donny Finkleberg, who used the alias of "[[Robot-Master (comic)|Robot Master]]" to con humankind into thinking the Transformers worked for him. Shockwave and Megatron entered into a period of shared leadership, but when a two-pronged attack by the Autobots saw Megatron defeated by [[Omega Supreme]], and Shockwave allowing the Autobots to capture the secrets of [[Devastator]], Megatron was able to spin the situation and reclaim his leadership.

In order to attain possession of a new energy-generating device, the hydrothermacline, Megatron battled Optimus Prime in a [[video game]] duel, using a [[cheat code]] to continue the fight after he had lost. Prime defeated him again, but at the expense of some of the game's characters, and ruled himself the loser because he would not have committed such an act in real life. Prime was destroyed, and Megatron's elation soon turned into [[paranoia]], as he had not killed Prime with his own hands, and believed he could still be alive. Eventually descending into insanity, Megatron boarded the spacebridge to Cybertron and detonated it with his fusion cannon, apparently killing himself.

That would be all the US comics saw of Megatron for quite some time, but their sister title in the UK, which produced its own material, interspliced with the US stories, soon brought back the great slag-maker for more adventures. Prior to Megatron's seeming death, there had been a story which had seen both him and Prime transported to Cybertron, where the disembodied local Decepticon leader, [[Lord Straxus]], attempted to possess his body. The attempt failed, but Straxus made another attempt with a specially-crafted clone of Megatron, which was transported to Earth soon after the real Megatron vanished. The clone believed itself to be the real thing - as did the comics' readers, thinking that the spacebridge explosion had transported Megatron elsewhere on Earth - and after a battle with the mechanoid, Centurion, it was salvaged by Shockwave, who brainwashed it and unleashed it on [[Galvatron]], a recreated future version of Megatron who had travelled back in time from the year 2006 and posed a threat to Shockwave's leadership. The clone Megatron, however, saw a possible partner in Galvatron, and the two teamed up to battle Autobots and Decepticons from both present and future in the apocalyptic "Time Wars". Subsequently, the clone returned to Cybertron, where it defeated the ruling Decepticon Triumvirate, but was then confronted with the ''real'' Megatron - the Spacebridge explosion had deposited him in the Dead End region of Cybertron, where he had wandered, with no recollection of who he was, until he had saved a Decepticon from Autobots and regained his memories. The clone Megatron susbequently destroyed itself to prevent Straxus, buried inside its mind, from taking over. A toy of Megatron's clone was released in 2002 by [[Takara]]. Named '''Megaplex''' after Machine Wars Megatron's clone, the toy was a reissue of the Japanese G1 Megatron toy. Megaplex was exclusively sold via the online Japanese dealer, eHobby. Megaplex came with a recoloured Energon flail weapon which was also available with the Transformers Collection reissue of Megatron.

The stage was now set for Megatron's return in the US comics, as he had his [[Micromaster]] Sports Car patrol capture the Autobot medic, Ratchet, and forced him to recreate Starscream as a [[Pretender (Transformers)|Pretender)]]. Ratchet did so, but also restored [[Grimlock]], [[Jazz (Transformers)|Jazz]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] in the same manner, thwarting his scheme. When Megatron then attempted to flee through a trans-time dimensional portal, Ratchet tackled him as his base then exploded around them, apparently killing them both.

Soon after, however, Autobot detective [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] discovered that the explosion had actually blown them through the portal, and he dispatched a probe to pull them back from the gaps between reality. However, when they rematerialised, it was revealed that the explosion had fused the two enemies together, into a hideous, twisted mockery of a being, which ran rampant through the Ark. The half that was Ratchet begged Optimus Prime to kill them, but Prime could not, and had the Micromaster, Fixit, separate their bodies. Unfortunately, Fixit could not separate their minds, as the two discovered when they were reactivated with [[Nucleon (Power Source)|Nucleon]] - sharing each other's thoughts, feeling, sensations and sights, Ratchet attempted to break the cycle by crashing the Ark on Earth.

====Generation 2====

Toy safety laws had changed, and it was now no longer legal to sell realistic toy guns, like the original Megatron figure, so for Generation 2, Megatron became an Abrams [[tank]], and Marvel Comics told the tale of how it happened.

Although thought dead for a year or two, Megatron had actually survived the Ark crash, and had quietly worked to repair it, concealing it beneath the ground (apparently, Ratchet died in the crash, as their shared mind does not come up in the story). Tracking a transforming signal mistakenly believing it was another Transformer, Megatron came across the shape-shifting castle of the terrorist organisation, [[COBRA Organisation|COBRA]], and entered into a bargain with its leader, [[Cobra Commander]], offering him the technology of the Ark in exchange for the new weapons his organisation was developing. Reconstructed into a new tank body, with a powerful rail gun, Megatron defeated a sqaud of Autobots sent to stop him, and then turned on COBRA, capturing the scientist who had developed his gun, [[Dr. Biggles-Jones|Doctor Biggles-Jones]], and escaping in the airborne Ark. Following a climactic battle with [[Fortress Maximus]], Megatron then battled and soundly defeated Bludgeon, reclaiming leadership of the Decepticons and stealing the Matrix from Optimus Prime, using it to bring his newest warriors online - only to have his faction bested by the forces of [[Jhiaxus]] and his second-generation Cybertronians. Megatron then entered into an alliance with the Autobots to both defeat Starscream, who had seized control of the Decepticon ship, the Warworld, through the power of the Matrix, and stop Jhiaxus. The tale ended with the Autobots and Decepticons uniting.

While this was the only version of Generation 2 Megatron to appear in the comics, several other incarnations of the character were released in the toyline itself, including "Hero Megatron" - a smaller, purple tank with a bellows-operated missile launcher and articulated robot mode - and Go-Bot Megatron; the Go-Bots were Transformers made to the same scale as Hot Wheels toys and had free-spinning axles which conserved momentum, allowing these Transformers to be compatible with Hot Wheels launchers, race tracks etc. Go-Bot Megatron was a repaint of a previous figure named Blowout and transformed into a silver Porsche. There were also unreleased versions of Megatron which turned into an Advanced Tactical Bomber and a smaller fighter jet, which would be used for Megatron in the Machine Wars series.

====Other comic stories====
In the course of its run, the UK comics produced several stories which do not fit into the continuity of the G1/G2 storyline, branching off in their own direction. For example, after the first disappearance of Ratchet and Megatron, a disparate continuity of storylines based around the "Earthforce" - a team of Autobots based on Earth - began, which saw Megatron and Shockwave establishing a joint leadership of the Decepticons, only to have command usurped by Starscream and Soundwave.

Also, after the end of the G1 comics, the final UK annual printed a text story entitled "Another Time And Place", which followed up on the events of the Ark crash, and saw Bludgeon and his followers locate Megatron's body and revive it with Nucleon, only for him to be defeated by Optimus Prime and Grimlock. This, of course, clashes with the G2 comic - but it does ''not'' clash in with the rewritten ''UK'' G2 comic, in which Megatron simply attributes his new body to human scientists, with no further explanation to contradict the events of "Another Time and Place".

Young Megatron was a gladiatorial combatant in the depths of [[Cybertron_(planet)|Cybertron]]’s underworld. As victory upon victory mounted, he began to realize that the games were nothing more than an elaborate attempt by the Cybertronian elders to hide the truth of Cybertron’s history from the masses. When Megatron attempted to gain access to that knowledge through exploration and research, the Cybertronian elders attempted to have him assassinated - a plan that only resulted in stirring up even more discontent among Cybertronians, allowing Megatron to begin recruiting for the Decepticon movement.

Megatron's forces began a civil war of Autobot against Decepticon in order to mask his reactivation of the ancient planetary engines buried beneath Cybertron’s surface. As a result, Cybertron would be transformed into a massive warworld that would cut a swathe of destruction through the galaxy. This plan failed. During a conflict with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], Megatron's lieutenant [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] activated the planet mechaforming process too soon, resulting in the destruction of the machinery.

Roughly 7.4 million years BCE, Megatron and Optimus Prime disappeared in an early test of the then-unstable [[Space Bridge]] matter-transport system. Spending an undisclosed time on the planet [[Quintessa]], Megatron returned with an overwhelming army of lifeless [[Air Warrior|seeker clones]], quickly subjugating Cybertron. ''(This story was never finished due to the closure of Dreamwave.)''

Four million years BCE, Cybertron was threatened by a massive approaching asteroid, so Optimus Prime led a contingent of Autobots aboard the [[Ark]] to blow the rock to fragments, which were transported away by an orbital Space Bridge network. When this task was completed, Megatron chose this moment to strike, attacking the Ark with his troops. Crippled, the craft flew through one of the Space Bridge portals, and was transported to prehistoric Earth, where it crashed, entombing the occupants in stasis for four million years.

The Autobots and Decepticons were reactivated in 1984, but specific details of the battles were unrecorded until 1999, when a Autobot/Human military alliance succeeded in capturing and deactivating the Decepticons. However, the [[Ark II]] spaceship carrying them back to Cybertron exploded shortly after liftoff, and the Transformers were believed destroyed. In actuality, they had been scattered back to Earth, where they lay in [[stasis lock]] across the globe for three years. This slumber was brought to an end when [[Lazarus|Adam Rook]] (aka Lazarus), a rogue military scientist who had devised a method of controlling Transformers, salvaged many of the fallen Cybertronians and reprogrammed them as mass killing machines, which he then attempted to sell on the black market. Megatron was first to break free of the human's control, overriding the new programming and capturing Lazarus during an auction. Megatron forced Lazarus to watch as he unleashed a technorganic virus designed to transform all of Earth into a new Cybertron. It also served to lure Optimus Prime and the Autobots, also now reactivated, to his location. Megatron, tired of the war, continuously asked Prime to join him. After his first failed attempt, Megatron unleashed [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] on [[San Francisco]], ensuing in mass slaughter, in an attempt to show Prime the humans were not worth fighting for. However, the selfless sacrifice of several firemen restored Prime's faith in humanity and allowed him and the Autobots to beat back Megatron.

Several months later. Megatron was subliminally summoned to a remote area in Alaska along with the other Earthbound Transformers. There they battled until Megatron's former second-in-command, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], who had arrived and revealed that in their absence, the war on Cybertron had ended. He arrested Megatron, Prime, and their troops as war criminals. Megatron, weakened by battle, was quickly defeated by Shockwave and loaded aboard his shuttle for return to Cybertron, only to have Starscream seize the opportunity by jettisoning him into space on the return trip. Megatron used the time floating in space to contemplate his existence and the Decepticon goal. Realizing that he had wasted millennia in his feud with Prime, Megatron resolved to once again conquer Cybertron as a means to enhancing the Transformer race and strengthening it from outside threats. It seemed as through he would not live to accomplish this goal, however, as death closed in on him... only for him to be retrieved by the [[Junkion]] [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]], who took him to the planet of [[Junk]] and repaired and re-armed him, only to be killed in return.

Travelling to the Planet [[Beest]], Megatron defeated the exiled Decepticon warlords, the [[Predacons (G1)|Predacons]], and rebuilt them into the mightiest of all combiners, [[Predaking (G1)|Predaking]], to serve as his ace in the hole in his quest to reclaim leadership of the Decepticons. Moving in stealth on Cybertron, Megatron defeated Shockwave, severing his arm and forcing him into servitude. He then returned to Earth to collect the remaining Decepticons under Starscream's command, and to teach Starscream a lesson long in coming.

While it was alluded that Megatron had a grand goal in mind that also included the subjugation of the [[Quintessons]], the remainder of the story has yet to be told due to the closure of Dreamwave. However it has been stated by representatives of IDW publishing, the current holders of the Transformer comic license, that once Dreamwave has exited bankruptcy court, they intend to finish the story.

In the exclusive Japanese toyline, ''[[Transformers: Robot Masters]],'' whose story began in the timeline of the G1 animated series, but branched off at some point i the twenty-year interim between seasons 2 and 3, Megatron was lost in an undisclosed accident, leaving his time-displaced ''Beast Wars'' descendant to take his place as Decepticon leader (the toyline applied the qualifying titles of "G1 Megatron" and "Beast Megatron" to the characters to distinguish them). As events progressed, it was revealed that G1 Megatron's consciousness took possession of the body of a "Convoy" (an Autobot leader) known as Reverse Convoy, leader of the planet [[Vehicon_(planet)|Vehicon]], and then used it to pose as an ally to the Autobots, only to betray them by revealing himself as the aptly-named "Rebirth Megatron."

The Reverse Convoy/Rebirth Megatron toy is a remoulded version of the Generation 2 "Hero Megatron" figure, with a new cannon and gun, and two interchangeable heads - one Convoy, one Megatron.
