*Japanese title: "Steel City"

Detailed synopsis
Over New York City, Laserbeak flies into the Decepticons' underground base. The Constructicons are digging a hole in the ceiling and the Autobots don't have a clue. After hours of digging, the Constructicons manage to sink the Empire State building underground.
The Autobots finally get wind of this and head to the city. Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Bumblebee and Ratchet plan to meet the rest of the Autobots at Central Park. However, Laserbeak spots them and reports back to Megatron. He plans to give the Autobots a surprising welcome.

At Central Park, the Autobots are ambushed by Soundwave and his crew whilst underground the Constructicons inform Megatron that they're underneath Optimus Prime. Megatron orders them to dig while Optimus Prime is fighting Soundwave. Taken by surprise he falls into the Decepticons underground base where Megatron severs his motor relays causing Optimus Prime to go into suspended animation. Megatron the threatens the remaining Autobots that unless they leave he will melt the Autobot leader down to scrap. He also shows them his master plan which is to rebuild New York into New Cybertron by bringing the Empire State building back up but now it looks like a Cybertron Fortress. Forced to leave the city the Autobots are gloomy until Spike comes up with a plan to get into the city undetected.

Seemingly victorious, Megatron gloats over Prime's still body. However, Megatron is still worried that Optimus Prime might try something and orders Hook to disassemble him, which he does with a handy <strike>lithsaber</strike> energy blade. After Optimus is now a pile of parts Megatron picks up his head and gloats again in which Prime responds that even though he's in pieces he will still fight. Prime then activates his arms and trips up Megatron. Megatron then orders the Constructicons to dispose of Prime's body with exception to the head.

Meanwhile Spike, Bumblebee, Rachet, Hound and Mirage enter the City through the sewers planning on rescuing Prime undetected. The scene the changes to the Constructicons very pleased with themselves to what they did with Prime's body and have special plans with his right arm.

Meanwhile Hound is confused that Prime is now behind them instead of in front. Mirage then spots a giant robot alligator (dubbed the Alligatorcon) and they run from it not wanting to fight for fear of alerting the Decepticons. They trap it in a train and send it and the train packing. When they reach the underground base they find Prime's head and reattach his circuits so he can speak. Prime the activates his legs to come to him and the rest of the Autobots figure out that the Alligatorcon was made up of Prime's parts. After capturing it Ratchet reassembles Prime, minus the right arm. Now that Optimus is safe the Autobots attack. The Decepticons have turned half of New York city into New Cybertron complete with killer taxis, and they're using Prime's arm as a weapon on top of their fortress. The taxis go for Bumblebee, Sideswipe, and Sunstreaker, but Prime runs them down.

After breaking through their defenses Optimus Prime, Ironhide and Ratchet plan to scale the fortress to reclaim Prime's arm. Bumblebee and Spike plan to distract Megatron and Soundwave to help. Megatron orders an air strike, but when Starscream is downed, the Constructicons become Devastator and he follows Prime's team up the building. Meanwhile, Spike and Bumblebee manage to sneak in and annoy Megatron, by calling him Megaklutz, and tricking him into destroying the device that controlled Prime's arm. Outside Devastator captures Prime and knocks Ironhide and Ratchet into the fortress. Wheeljack then comments that the whole thing reminded him of King Kong as he tried to assist with his remote controlled helicopters. Spike then informs Prime that his arm is no longer controlled by Megatron in which Prime uses this opportunity to use against Devastator. After Devastator gets hit Prime falls but is saved by Ironhide and Ratchet and as usual the Decepticons retreat.

Now the city is saved, Prime is back together and Bumblebee got a souvenir (a 'I love NY' bumper sticker) the Autobots roll out and return home.
Notable quotes
"It sickens me to say it, Reflector, but this one time I have to hand it to Megatron. The place is starting to feel like home."
:-- Starscream agrees with one of Megatron's plans, which heralds the coming of the apocalypse.

"I feel like I'm in some messy swamp, not underneath the largest city in North America."
:-- Ratchet, trudging through the sewers of New York.

"O-hoo-hoo-hoo, here they come! Auto-Auto-Autobots!"
:-- Mix-Mix-Mixmaster!

"I may not have a weapon, but I can still transform and roll!"
:-- Optimus Prime, preparing to crush the battle taxis.

"You'll never catch us, Megaklutz!"<br>"Megaklutz! You dare to insult me in my own command post?!"
:-- Spike Witwicky daring to insult Megatron in his own command post.

Other notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
* When Megatron is looking at Optimus through the monitor, Prime has both arms. The camera switches to Megatron and then back to Optimus, who now has only one arm.
* The scene freezes for several seconds as the rebuilt Empire State Building is about to be raised above ground, complete with non-moving clouds of dust and smoke.
* The Empire State Building is depicted as far too small in relation to the Transformers in several scenes.
* At one point, Megatron's helmet appears in white rather than grey giving the impression that he is wearing a white wig.
* Why didn't the Constructicons find the Matrix when they took apart Prime?
* Prime "activating" his legs consists of somehow making them come magically tumbling through the air to him.
* There's an odd moment when Mirage and Ratchet say, in perfect synch, "This alligator is big and heavy!" Prime then responds with the sage observation: "From the looks of it, I'd say a little of both." The scene appears to be the result of an editing and directorial snafu. Prime should be responding to the Autobots' previous lines: "Now we've got him!" "Or should I say, we've got you?" And the combined Ratchet and Mirage line was likely intended to be a series of ad libs as the Autobots struggle with the Aligaticon, rather than a straight line.
* Let's not even get into the plausibility of lowering a thousand-foot building into the ground, rebuilding it for beings several times the size of a human, and then rebuilding it again into its original form.

Real-world references
* Devastator climbs the Decepticons' "improved" version of the Empire State Building, very similarly to King Kong, as Wheeljack points out.
* The alligatorcon is likely an allusion to the persistent rumors of alligators living in New York City's sewers.

Miscellaneous trivia
* Along with "The Core" and "The Autobot Run", this episode is one of a trio featuring distinctively bright and "cartoonish" art and animation, a somewhat more juvenile plot and script than normal, and a common set of animation model oddities, such as Chip Chase's blue jacket and Optimus Prime's white backpack.
* Though it is widely regarded in the fandom as his normal way of speaking, this is in fact the only time Mixmaster's speech oddity ever shows up. Then again, Scrapper and Hook were the real talkers of the group.
* The final shot in this episode shows Bumblebee with an "I [heart] NY" bumper sticker.
* This was one of several episodes subjected to the MSTF treatment at 2000.

* Since Prime's right arm appears to be welded onto a certain side of the building. Why didn't the Autobots go behind the building where Prime's Blaster can't reach them?
Having had the Autobots exiled from Earth, Megatron reveals the Decepticons' true intentions.

Japanese title: "Megatron's Plan to Rule Earth," Part 2

Detailed synopsis
The episode recaps with Victor Caroli going over a recap of the events of Part 1. Onto the start.

The episode begins with a marching band parading through the streets of Central City. Berger announces that today is Decepticon Day. Sparkplug and Chip immensely dislike the event. Chip says that its too late for Spike to be searching for evidence to clear the Autobots names right now.

Back in a tape room, Spike finishes watching another tape showing the Decepticons as the real culprits behind it. He's about to leave when he meets Ravage. During a brief fight, in which Ravage slams into a TV screen, gets fried, smacked with an office chair, and then finally gets buried under a shelf of video tapes (poor kitty), Spike makes his escape.

At a nearby high school disco, Soundwave and his cassettes makes an appearance. We see Rumble dancing as well, as Ravage gets petted by some school girls, and Laserbeak giving a real evil glare to a kid who's offering him a cracker (probably wants to eat the kid).

In deep space, Cosmos is leading the rocket ship through space. Inside, Ironhide and Cliffjumper persuade Prime to turn round and head back to Earth. After the ship doesn't respond to Cliffjumper's computing, Hound uses his shoulder scanner to pinpoint their destination...The SUN!. Cosmos is unable to link up with Teletraan I as the rocket starts to overheat...along with the Autobots inside. Cosmos comes aboard and starts working at the computer, but to no avail.

Inside the Decepticon base, Megatron looks with glee as he watches the Autobots and their ship collide with the sun and explode. They then leave for a press conference.

Spike is with the mayor in his office and he shows the Mayor the tapes he's found. The mayor can't bring back the Autobots, but now armed with the right evidence, Spike and the mayor start a campaign to clear the Autobots names.

At the press conference, Megatron reveals that he plans to conquer the planet and suck it dry of energy. He is now the marshal of Central City, newly christened as Megatronia 1, and everyone will be made slaves to obtain energy for the Decepticons. On a nearby screen, we see the Coneheads running amok through Central City. Spike learns of the Autobot's destruction and escapes, but the tape of evidence is destroyed. Berger saves Spike from getting killed by Laserbeak, but their escape is short lived as they're all captured by Megatron.

Back in space, the Autobots have been saved by Trailbreaker's force field. They're still attached to Cosmos, who's still heading towards the sun, since his actions are still controlled by Teletraan I.

Back on earth, things are grim. All the humans have been enslaved by the Decepticons and they're being forced to mine energy from every available source. Berger got his reward...he too is cuffed and made to work in a power plant. One night, Chip breaks out of the power plant and sneaks onboard a nearby truck. He heads for the Autobot base and works at Teletraan I. He finds out that the Autobot rocket was destroyed. He's about to find out more when Thrust breaks into the base. Thrust destroys Teletraan I and takes Chip back to the plant.

Cosmos then realises he's got control back and heads back to Earth. Back on Earth, an air force rescue attempt is easily destroyed by the Seekers and Blitzwing. Megatron has the humans cornered, when the Autobots arrive. Optimus Prime assembles the entire 84 and 85 line to combat the Decepticons and they win, heavily damaging many, including the Insecticons and Constructicons. The Decepticons retreat because they've lost the advantage

The Mayor pardons the Autobots, while Berger is taken by the authorities to face justice himself. With the Decepticons defeated, the Autobots transform and roll for home.

* Though he single-handedly saves the Autobots on his own initiative, Trailbreaker gets no lines in the episode, and barely even appears except as a Jesus-like silhouette at the center of his force field.
* Starscream fires the null-ray from his finger.
* As is made evident by the shooting script for this episode, a large portion of this episode was actually added in at a later stage to bring the episode up to the required length - namely, Cosmos's inability to alter his flight path, Chip's escape and Thrust's blasting of Teletraan I.
* When released as a video in the UK, both episodes were compiled as a 45-minute "movie" instead being treated as a two-part episode.
In the war with the Autobots, the Decepticons change tactics, turning the humans against the Autobots.
Japanese title: "Megatron's Plan to Rule Earth," Part 1

Detailed synopsis
The mayor of Central City is officially opening a new Solar Tower when his speech is interrupted by Starscream, Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet. After the Decepticons realize there is no energy in the tower yet, guards come out with tanks and attempt to shoo them away. The tanks are destroyed and the guards escape with their lives, while the mayor calls for the Autobots.

An Autobot attack force, consisting of Prime, Ironhide, Smokescreen, Tracks, Warpath and Bumblebee, arrives at the scene. Everyone transforms to robot mode except Tracks, who transforms to his flight mode and takes off after the coneheads, who are making a quick exit. Tracks uses a radiator-mounted black beam gun to blind Dirge. Ramjet seeks revenge for this and knocks Tracks clean out the air. On the ground, Starscream is being hammered by laser blasts from Ironhide, Smokescreen, Prime and Warpath. Thrust saves him with a missile barrage. Smokescreen retaliates and fires his shoulder-mounted lasers, which damage Thrust's guidance systems. Beaten and battered, the Decepticons retreat.

The Mayor thanks the Autobots and decides to honor them at City Hall. Spike comments that it's about time the Autobots got some recognition for their actions.

In his office, Shawn Berger watches the events and is infuriated, since he wants to be mayor so badly. He sends his guards out, claiming he needs to think. He picks up an odd-looking cassette on his desk, which transforms into Laserbeak. The Decepticon grabs Shawn and flies out of the office and then out of the city, towards a mountain ridge.

There, Megatron, Soundwave and Dirge await Shawn's arrival. Megatron tells Shawn that he can help get the power that he so desperately desires, even two cities if he wants. In return, Shawn must use his wealth, power and influence to help the Decepticons. Megatron tells Berger that, like many others, he's been blinded by Autobot propaganda. He persuades Berger into thinking the Decepticons are good and the Autobots are evil and that all he needs is evidence. Berger agrees to help, and Dirge takes him back to his office. After Berger's departure, Megatron tells Soundwave that Berger "thinks he will be king, but he will be nothing more than a pawn!"

At a deserted oil field, Optimus Prime shows up with a group of Autobots: Wheeljack, Sunstreaker and Ironhide. Berger flies in a news helicopter overhead and records the Autobots stealing energy. Ironhide notices the helicopter and warns Prime, who begins to fire on it. Megatron, Starscream, Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet save Berger and drive off the Autobots. Wheeljack fires as he escapes and knocks off the camera beneath the copter. Dirge finds it and gives it to Megatron, who must return it to Berger, since it "contains valuable evidence."

At Central City's City Hall, the public is gathered and cheering the Autobots, who are rolling parade-style through town. The Autobots all transform and head towards the Hall. Inside, Optimus Prime is joined by Hound, Ironhide, Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. After a brief moment of reading out the wrong speech, the Mayor finally gets it right and proceeds to request the airing of a video of the work the Autobots did at the Solar Plant yesterday. However, Berger has had the tapes switched, and the audience sees the tape the Decepticons made. It shows additional scenes of Prime and Wheeljack turning the coneheads evil with a ray gun and Prime claiming that the Autobots will claim the Earth for their own once fully trusted.

Now hated by the public, the Autobots return to base. After a brief rest period, they end up being arrested by the mayor and Berger's private army. They and the Decepticons are taken to court. During the trial, Spike escapes and sets out to clear the Autobots' names, but Soundwave launches Ravage to slow Spike down. After slamming Ravage in a revolving door, Spike escapes. He later finds the tape room and watches one of the tapes...which reveals that the Autobots at the oil field were Decepticons in disguise. He starts to head back to the trial with the tape, only to find his path blocked by Ravage.

Back at the trial, without evidence, the Autobots are found guilty and are banished from Earth forever. Later that night, the Autobots are taken to a shuttle and forced to board by Megatron. They blast off, heading towards Cybertron.

Inside the Autobot base, Megatron and Shawn Berger are at Teletraan I. They reprogram the rocket's guidance systems for a one-way trip into the sun.

Other Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
* While flying Berger to Megatron, Laserbeak makes the TIE fighter engine noise from Star Wars. What's more interesting is that Darth Vader's breathing is heard as well.

* If Starscream was wearing the Optimus Prime costume during the oilfield stunt, how was he able to be there in person, fighting the "Autobots"?

* Someone at Toei forgot to animate the Decepticons as they force the Autobots to go into the rocket.

*Megatron didn't even bother to ask Prime for the Matrix before the Autobots left Earth.

Transformer references
*Oh, it turns out the Decepticons don't need Soundwave to make energon cubes. The Seekers can do it themselves.

Miscellaneous trivia
* When released on video in the UK, both parts of this story were edited together as a 45-minute "movie" instead of a two-part episode.

* This is the first time in the series Smokescreen has ever used his shoulder-mounted lasers to fight instead of his exhaust fumes and laser rifle.

* The seeker jets in this episode prefer to use missiles and rockets to fight the Autobots and terrorize the humans with rather than the traditional lasers. They do however use the lasers in robot mode

* In the oil field fight, Starscream is able to use his null-rays from his nose in jet mode, the first time he ever does this. (Of course, the fight was faked, so these null-rays presumably were as well.)

* Why are the public so quickly swayed by three scenes on a tape after the amount of times the Autobots have saved them in the past year or so?
Megatron's latest scheme involves using the most powerful computer on Earth to control machinery remotely.

Detailed synopsis
Megatron and Soundwave (the former disguised in a guitar case!) not-so-silently infiltrate Quantum Laboratories, a top-secret facility where the world’s most powerful computer, TORQ III, is housed. Megatron reprograms the computer with his own personality and gives it the power to control remotely dangerous machines of all types through the use of "Remote Control Circuit Linker cards."

At the same time, scientist Dr. Paul Gates of Quantum Labs muses with a colleague about the dangers of machine sentience and that, in the wrong hands, TORQ III might be too powerful. Since Fate is both cruel and timely, the very scenario they were discussing comes true when TORQ III locks them in their office and announces that he’s taking over.

Megatron is using TORQ and the circuit linker cards to remotely control fleets of oil tankers. This alerts Teletraan 1, who notifies Optimus Prime. Prime then receives Dr. Gates’ distress signal; Gates fills him in on TORQ III’s rebellion and asks to be rescued.

Hound and Skyfire are assigned to investigate the tankers, and Spike tags along. Prime leads a group to Quantum Labs, where they immediately come under attack by machines controlled by TORQ. Overwhelmed, Prime orders in the Dinobots (minus Swoop) to come help, and they smash, chomp and melt down all of the machines. Grimlock makes his usual pompous comment about having to save Prime’s bacon when things get rough. Afterward, Prime rescues Dr. Gates and they advance toward the buildings, meeting lots of resistance from TORQ’s machines.

Meanwhile, Hound, Spike and Skyfire sneak aboard an oil tanker and infiltrate the Decepticons' oil platform. Their attack falls short when Spike is captured and they are forced to surrender.

After smashing more remote-controlled machines at Quantum, Prime decides to explore inside TORQ’s maze-like complex alone. As Optimus moves in closer, one of the machines places a circuit linker card on him, making him Torq’s slave, and he is brought into the computer’s domain. Butm-surprise, surprisem- Prime rips the card off his body, saying it was a dud he placed in the robot’s claw, and he disables TORQ with a well-placed punch to the control panel.

Back at the oil platform, Spike has hatched an idea to use an electromagnet (which happened to be in their cell) to immobilize Rumble and Ravage. Skyfire easily smashes through the cell door and Hound disables the force dome that was protecting the platform. The rest of the Autobots arrive and a battle ensues. Prime faces down Megatron and manages to wrest a remote control device from his hands, then tosses it back to him. Megatron lands on it, crushing it, and comes back up spitting mad. He retaliates by activating the self-destruct mechanism on the platform.

The Autobots escape, but Prime stays behind to find Hound, Skyfire and Spike. He rips apart the platform deck, revealing the missing team members, and Skyfire flies them out of danger.

Finally, Prime says goodbye to Dr. Gates, who makes a parting comment about machines being unreliable, and then quickly retracts the statement when he realizes his gaff. The Autobots laugh at the ungrateful human's hubris.

The Autobots and the Insecticons engage in battle in a forest where the Insecticons are eating the trees. After beating the Autobots, the Insecticons go with the Decepticons to a base containing a special power source, the Nova Power Core. The Insecticons feed on it, and it causes them to grow gigantic, but also to become atomically unstable. In the process, they kidnap Soundwave and turn him into their slave (thanks to one of Bombshell's Cerebro-shells) and badly damage Wheeljack and Ironhide, which forces the Autobots to retreat. Soon Megatron and Starscream realize that Soundwave and all the other Decepticons are under Insecticon control. Bombshell launches two more Cerebro-shells; one hits Starscream and he becomes controlled, but Megatron crushes the other one before it hits him. Prime warns Megatron that any blast that hits one of the Insecticons could destroy everyone around them as well. The Autobots create three antidotes to prevent this from happening. Megatron is forced to work with the Autobots and transforms to fire the antidotes. Bombshell and Kickback are saved and return to normal size, but Shrapnel explodes before the antidote put in him by Spike can work. The Decepticons are freed from Insecticon control and Bombshell reassembles Shrapnel. The Insecticons then retreat with the Decepticons chasing them.

Waspinator finds himself possessed by none other than the original Decepticon traitor, Starscream!

Summary
A violent storm rages, causing significant damage and knocking out power to both Maximal and Predacon bases. While the Maximals stash their extra ammo deeper in their ship's hold to prevent undue accidents, Waspinator attempts to get a Darksyde computer console online...only to be greeted by a ghostly, shrill voice from it. A power surge hits the bugbot soon afterwards, and when the other Preds begin to wonder what has happened to him, in he comes, announcing his return "at long last" in the same eerie voice.

The voice belongs to Starscream, air commander of the Decepticon forces and second in command to the original Megatron, whose spark had been tumbling through time and space for an unknown number of years before settling within Waspinator; as he puts it, he was destroyed defending Megatron from the Chaos Bringer Unicron, but his spark endured. As a show of his good faith, he pledges his loyalty to the Predacon Megatron, revealing vital information about the state of the Maximal base due to the storm that he could use to plan a sneak attack. Intrigued by the idea, Megatron accepts Starscream into his ranks, but warns Scorponok in private to watch their new ally closely.

The next day, as the Maximals are making repairs to their base, they are suddenly attacked by the Preds, Starscream's intel proving very useful in catching them off-guard. In the ensuing firefight, Dinobot is inured and the Decepticon Air Commander flies rings round Optimus, forcing the Maximals to abandon ship and regroup outside. Happy with their victory, Megatron puts Starscream in charge of holding the Axalon, with Scorponok and Blackarachnia under his command, while the rest of the Preds return to their base, in case the Maximals decide to go for a sneak attack of their own. Once they're alone, though, BA shows off her knack for history by correctly pointing out to Starscream that he was murdered by Galvatron (the Unicron-reborn Megatron) after he betrayed the Decepticon commander; she's willing to keep this a secret, though, if she's let in on his real plans: to destabilize Megatron's control and rule both factions.

Deep in the forest, as the Maximals recover, Optimus voices his confusion and concern over Waspinator's new personality; he isn't entirely convinced he is possessed by the spark of Starscream, but as the Maximal Elders had long since sealed the Decepticon's records, they're not able to confirm or deny it, either. Fortunately, Dinobot's as much of a military history buff as BA is, commenting on how Webster's Cybertronian Dictionary has pretty much replaced all definitions of "traitor" with Starscream's name. Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Optimus?

He is. Returning to the Axalon, the Maximals call Starscream out to announce their surrender, citing the need to use the ship's RC Chamber to repair Dinobot's (now exaggerated) wounds. Feeling generous, the Decepticon Air Commander allows Optimus and Dinobot to come on board, but as predictably as night follows day, betrays them and strips Optimus of his weapons and locks him up in the hold as soon as he steps on deck. With their leader now his prisoner, Starscream orders the other Maximals to attack the Darksyde, over the token objections of Scorponok. They comply, and the trap is set.

Unbeknown to the Air Commander, he's been duped by the oldest trick in the book; by allowing himself to be betrayed, Optimus has put himself and Dinobot in the perfect position to retake their base, which they do in a dazzling display that forces Starscream to retreat back to Pred territory. Optimus pursues, and manages to best the Decepticon in an aerial dogfight, leaving him grovelling at the Maximal's feet...until Blackarachnia shows up, prompting Starscream to plead for her aide, believing they can still complete their coup. No dice; this new generation is much less gullible than their ancestors, and BA has skillfully pulled off a double-cross on the double-crosser, igniting a small energon cache underneath Starscream to "exorcise" the Decepticon's spark from Waspinator's body.

At the end of the day, Megatron gets done fixing the now-normal Waspinator as BA explains her betrayal; if she didn't, she maintains, she wouldn't have been able to sniff out Starscream's true motives. This is seemingly accepted as a viable excuse by the Predacon commander, but he warns her that it still doesn't invoke confidence in her loyalties. Back at the Axalon, the Maximals are finishing up repairs of their own...everyone but Cheetor, who's slacking off with a bout of stargazing, quipping "Twinkle, twinkle, little Starscream" as the camera pans up to beyond the planet's orbit, showing Starscream's spark screaming mech fluid-drenched vengeance on all within the Beast Wars as he drifts away into the void...
*Starscream has a blue face instead of his "famous" gray face from G1.

Continuity errors
*Megatron knew a great deal about Cybertronian history, yet apparently did not know the real nature of Starscream and his demise. However, Megatron might have been playing dumb to lure Starscream into being bolder with his actions. It should also be of note that both the Predacon and Maximal Elders had a large portion of his records sealed due to his history.
*Oddly, despite being born from a Maximal Protoform, Blackarachnia refers to the Decepticons as "our" (the Predacons) ancestors.
*Inferno is absent for the entire episode.
*Why does Starscream imprison Optimus in shackles that he can break out of in about five seconds flat?
*In an interview about the fact above, it is stated that Primal originally had a very complex way of breaking free, but due to budget and time restrictions, this was changed to just him "Busting out". fact
*Obviously, Starscream himself firmly ties Beast Wars to established G1 history.

Notes
Animation and/or technical glitches
*Starscream has a blue face and blue arms instead of his "famous" gray arms and face from G1.

*In an interview about the fact above, it is stated that Primal originally had a very complex way of breaking free, but due to budget and time restrictions, this was changed to just him "Busting out". fact

Real-world references
*Optimus Primal says "Hasta la vista, Starscream," paraphrasing a famous line from Terminator 2.
*As he flies away immediately after saying this, Optimus Primal is seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, aping Arnold Schwarzenegger's trademark look from the movie.

Transformers references
*Obviously, Starscream himself firmly ties Beast Wars to established G1 history.
*Starscream's spark, or "ghost" as it was then called, had possessed several Decepticons (including Cyclonus, Scourge, and Trypticon) in the G1 episodes "Starscream's Ghost" and "Ghost in the Machine."
*One of the Predacon insignias on the side of Waspinator's cranium changes into Decepticon insignia while Starscream's spark is inhabiting his superstructure.
