He attempted to tell [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]], but Side Burn was too busy chasing red sports cars. After tracking down [[X-Brawn]] and doing the [[Universal greeting| Universal greeting dance]], he managed to persuade the [[Autobot]]s that the Decepticons were targeting Bayshore.

The [[Autobot Brothers]] rushed to the power plant, but it wasn't under attack. They hung around a while anyway, and chatted to [[Koji Onishi]], who was visiting the power plant on a class trip. Though Sky-Byte was rubbing his fins together in glee that the Decepticons would have a reception committee waiting for them, it turned out that the Decepticons were attacking [[Crestline power plant|''Crestline'' power plant]], not Bayshore. Interrupting Hawk in mid-sentence came both Skydive and Optimus Prime... which caused Flint to wonder if Skydive knew that "significant" meant "more than one".

Skydive tried to explain that Optimus was no ordinary Autobot, but Prime cut him off. The Autobot leader went on to explain his reasoning to Hawk and Flint, saying that a full-scale conflict would only make things worse. When exploring a mysterious report of giant creatures in the [[Roman]] sewers under [[London]] with archaeologist [[Susan Hoffman]], Flint and the Action Force encountered first the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]] [[Blades (G1)|Blades]], and then, more ominously, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] ([[Straxus (G1)|sort of]]). The situation swiftly escaped his control and, when he falsely believed [[Wild Bill]] to be dead, he sent in Action Force's [[Mauler]] tanks and [[Dragonfly]] copters... which Megatron stomped. He then called Colton a crazy old coot and pestered him with questions about his imprisonment, neither of which helped gain him respect with the older man. The two were suddenly attacked by [[Yeti]], but saved by the timely arrival of [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]]. After devicing a plan to use Cobra-La's [[Metal-eating spore|metal-eating fungus]] to destroy Unicron, Flint decided to "make like Flash Gordon" and come with Cosmos to make sure the fungus didn't eat the Autobot instead. They flew into space and inside Unicron's head, where Cosmos was shot down and paralyzed. Flint disembarked and fought his way through the planet-eater's "anti-bodies", and ultimately managed to throw the fungus straight into Unicron's brain. As Unicron was devoured from the inside, Flint escaped aboard Cosmos, cracking jokes all the way back to Earth. The '''Dinobots''' are a rowdy, arrogant, lowbrow, disobedient band of warriors that some Autobots would rather scrap than deal with. They're also one of the most devastatingly powerful and close-knit combat units in the Autobot army, being incredibly powerful in robot mode and taking [[Alternate mode|alternate modes]] based on [[Dinosaur|dinosaurs]], the most powerful creatures to ever roam the [[Earth]].

If it's to destroy stuff, they're down with that. If it's to help people, it kinda depends on what the weather is like. They like chocolate milk.

At one point, the Dinobots became sick of only being used as the hammer of the Autobot army, so they deserted, saying that they would fight when ''they'' wanted to. However, the Dinobots were called in when the Autobots and the Decepticons began suffering from [[Cybertonium]] depletion. Grimlock tried infusing some of his [[spark]] energy into Sludge to revive him, but it seemed to have no effect. Shockwave got the upper hand and let Scorponok escape, and in frustration, Grimlock attacked Shockwave. Grimlock and Shockwave were too busy fighting to notice the return of Slag, Snarl, and Swoop, who reasoned that, while helping Grimlock might not be much of a cause, it still beat being no better than the Monsterbots. They were noticed by Sludge, however, who seemed to have recovered due to Grimlock's treatment after all. The four of them dove into the fray proper, but Grimlock ordered them to go after Scorponok instead. When [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] was about to get squished by Scorponok, the remaining Dynobots showed up in just the nick of time. At Hot Rod's urgings, Swoop severed the connections keeping Scorponok's head conscious. But before the Dynobots could kill the rest of Scorponok, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] showed up and told them that Scorponok would be revived and made to answer to a tribunal instead. He then said they should purge the entire Machination facility, gather up all related Machination technology, and get as far away from Earth as possible as soon as possible—a plan that the Dynobots, Hot Rod, and Hunter were all perfectly OK with. Ultra Magnus later told Grimlock that having Scorponok and Shockwave in custody could help offset Grimlock's own sentence, and that the other Dynobots' warrants had been canceled, and Grimlock was content with that and the fact that Sludge was alive again thanks to him. And by that, what we ''really'' mean is that Grimlock and Slag had never met before both were thrown in a brig for pissing off their commanding officers (''shooting'' them in Slag's case). Sadly, it did not protect the Dynobots from Shockwave's energy blasts, which melted the artificial skin and caused the Dynobots to go into [[stasis lock]] due to excessive [[energon radiation]]. Due to a deadman's switch, The Dynobots' ship (the ''[[Skyfire (ship)|Skyfire]]'') blasted a volcano that buried everyone in molten lava. While feeling some guilt for what he did, Grimlock defended his actions by saying "er, hello, we're vicious amoral rule-breakers, of course I did it". Rightfully so, the Dynobots were pissed with their leader, and walked away after Swoop read Grimlock the riot act. When Grimlock was attacked and almost destroyed by the [[Sunstreaker clone]]s, however, the team reunited once again for battle. Although fighting valiantly, they might have been destroyed, if not for the intervention of the [[Monsterbot]]s, whom were earlier contacted by Grimlock.

Aboard the Monsterbots' ship, the Dynobots wondered why Grimlock would side with the outcasts. They gave Grimlock a stern look when he exited the cockpit. The Dynobots didn't see the point of fighting Scorponok, but Grimlock said that Scorponok made it their fight when he turned the Dynobots against him. Snarl disagreed, saying that it has always been Grimlock's fight, that he and the other Dynobots went along with him, and that it was now Grimlock's wounded pride at stake. After the Monsterbots blasted away the defenses, Grimlock exited the ship, saying that there was no way he could let this go, and that with or without the Dynobots, there would be a reckoning for Scorponok. The Dynobots decided that arguing is pointless and followed Grimlock. When [[Hunter O'Nion]] pulled the cords from [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]]'s head, shutting him down, the clones ceased to function. Grimlock stared down at Sludge's dead body, brooding about how it was his fault Sludge was dead... while a battle between Scorponok and Shockwave (for rights of revenge upon Grimlock) raged on around him. Eventually Snarl, Slag, and Swoop decide to get to the Monsterbots' ship while the getting was good, but Grimlock stayed behind with Sludge. Grimlock tried infusing some of his [[spark]] energy into Sludge to revive him, but it seemed to have no effect. Shockwave got the upper hand and let Scorponok escape, and in frustration, Grimlock attacked Shockwave. Grimlock and Shockwave were too busy fighting to notice the return of Slag, Snarl, and Swoop, who reasoned that, while helping Grimlock might not be much of a cause, it still beat being no better than the Monsterbots. They were noticed by Sludge, however, who seemed to have recovered due to Grimlock's treatment after all. The four of them dove into the fray proper, but Grimlock ordered them to go after Scorponok instead. When [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] was about to get squished by Scorponok, the remaining Dynobots showed up in just the nick of time. At Hot Rod's urgings, Swoop severed the connections keeping Scorponok's head conscious. But before the Dynobots could kill the rest of Scorponok, [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] showed up and told them that Scorponok would be revived and made to answer to a tribunal instead. He then said they should purge the entire Machination facility, gather up all related Machination technology, and get as far away from Earth as possible as soon as possible—a plan that the Dynobots, Hot Rod, and Hunter were all perfectly OK with. Ultra Magnus later told Grimlock that having Scorponok and Shockwave in custody could help offset Grimlock's own sentence, and that the other Dynobots' warrants had been canceled, and Grimlock was content with that and the fact that Sludge was alive again thanks to him. Quickly thereafter, Jhiaxus's ship, the ''[[Twilight (G2)|Twilight]]'', abducted them and delighted in telling Prime and [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]] that for his side of the universe, the war had been over for millions of years and that Prime and his adversaries were embarrassments to him. Jhiaxus hoped that Prime would see the error of his ways, but he escaped in a stolen ship with his fellow Autobots. He shipped the survivors in a prison ship to be examined by the Liege Maximo, but the ship was intercepted by Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Devices and Desires! (Marvel)|Devices and Desires!}} Later, Jhiaxus made a visit to [[Outpost D-109]], a recently conquered planet the Cybertronians were busy [[eco-structuring]] into a Cybertron-like world. Though the process was ahead of schedule, Jhiaxus was still disappointed. The Autobots had mysteriously halted their attacks on his troops, and their absence worried him. {{storylink|The Power and the Glory}}

One of his teams crossed paths with the original-generation Autobots, and the incident ended badly. Jhiaxus decided to make his move, and ordered a full-scale attack on [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]'s [[Warworld]] near [[Tykos]]. This altercation resulted in casualties in Megatron's forces while Jhiaxus battled Megatron himself in orbit. Jhiaxus relished condescending to his opponent, an act reinforced by his superior might. He shot Megatron out of orbit, leaving him for dead on the moon's surface. {{storylink|New Dawn}} However, Megatron miraculously survived, and his Autobots and the Autobots forged an uneasy alliance against the Cybertronians. Increasingly frustrated, he vowed to escalate his galactic efforts, ordering that every planet be stripped of life. He hoped to force the hand of the original generation Transformers and overwhelm them, a plan that nearly worked on [[Ethos]] against the Autobots until Autobot reinforcements arrived. {{storylink|Escalation!}} Indeed, the battle there decimated [[Ethos raiding party|the best of Jhiaxus's forces]]. But Jhiaxus soon gained an unexpected advantage—[[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] sold out the location of the original generation's base of operations in exchange for a high-ranking position. {{storylink|Swarm (issue)|Swarm}}

Jhiaxus attacked the base on Earth. {{storylink|Tales of Earth Part Six}} The headquarters itself was quickly destroyed, but Optimus and Megatron's troops fought back strongly and met the challenge equally. Jhiaxus wanted to end the conflict here and then, so he called for reinforcements from every corner of his empire. {{storylink|Total War!}} Adding insult to injury, Jhiaxus was informed that his troops had lost the Warworld to the backstabbing Starscream. Jhiaxus lost his composure, and when he tossed his subordinate, [[Rook (G2)|Rook]], in anger, Rook arranged a trip to the Liege Maximo. Jhiaxus returned to the ''Twilight'', and upon receiving a transmission from Optimus Prime onboard the Warworld, he acted upon his anger by targeting a [[San Francisco|random spot on the Earth]] with nuclear weapons. Before Jhiaxus could order another shot, the ''Twilight'' was knocked away by a blast from the Warworld and the [[Swarm (G2)|Swarm]] arrived. {{storylink|Dark Shadows!}}

Despite [[Crushable Cybertronian soldier|his officers]]' pleas to withdraw, Jhiaxus's troops were ordered to stay their ground even as the Swarm ate its way through them effortlessly. Optimus Prime, ever trying to reach a solution, arrived on the ''Twilight'' to talk, but Jhiaxus would not have it. He threw Prime around, powered by his increasing rage, and blamed him for how his life, his empire, had disintegrated. [[Unicron]] abducted Jhiaxus's [[spark]] and stripped him of his rank and power. Though he once again wore the brand of an ordinary Autobot, he still nursed a hatred towards Autobot and Autobot alike. They were all, of course, unevolved, inferior throw-backs. While still abducted by Unicron, Jhiaxus was kept locked inside one of the chambers within the [[Cauldron]] and periodically forced to combat other Transformers so that Unicron could feed on the loser's Spark. Jhiaxus was [[Nova Prime]]'s chief theoretical strategist and pioneer of attempts to push forward the Transformer race, as well as a mentor to [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Doubledealer}}

He pioneered [[Combiner|gestalt]] technology, bonding [[Pretender Monster|six Transformers]] into [[Monstructor (G1)|one combined entity]] to create an ultimate Transformer—resulting in an insane murdering monster that eventually was imprisoned in a dimensional prison by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. {{storylink|Spotlight: Optimus Prime}} Jhiaxus also was behind the introduction of gender to the Cybertronian genome, produced by his tampering with the [[CNA]] of [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]]. This had the slight side effect of turning ''her'' into an insane murdering monster. {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}}

Despite this slight pattern to his results, he remained in Nova Prime's inner circle and was part of the crew aboard the original [[Ark (G1)|''Ark'' spacecraft]], which was subsequently was lost in the [[Benzuli Expanse]]. Now stuck in the [[Dead Universe]] (only able to leave for brief periods before dying), Jhiaxus became a confidant for the rechristened ''Nemesis'' Prime and plotted on a plan to merge the Dead Universe with the regular one, allowing them to go home ''and'' gain power over the combined reality.

Jhiaxus began prepping [[Nega-Core]]s on three worlds, which would enable this universal "[[Expansion]]". {{storylink|Spotlight: Arcee}} He also set up an underground base on [[Gorlam Prime]], where a large portal to/from the Dead Universe resided; he then began poking Gorlam Prime's evolution with a stick, accelerating the development to an advanced technological race with the end result of turning them into [[Micromaster|tiny Transformers]]. These were the template for what all life would be turned into to survive the Expansion, and the first few batches served as guards and general minions. On the eve of the Expansion, Jhiaxus told Nemesis Prime that he suspected [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] of having his own agenda. The point would become moot, however, once their plans unfurled. {{storylink|Devastation issue 6}} After [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] secured the Nega-Core and activated [[Thunderwing (G1)|its guardian]], Jhiaxus initiated the Expansion with Nemesis Prime and the rest of the [[Dead Universe]] crew. {{storylink|Spotlight: Cyclonus}}

Jhiaxus was in mental control of [[Thunderwing (G1)|the]] [[Monstructor (G1)|three]] [[Sixshot|guardians]] of the Nega-Cores, {{storylink|Spotlight: Doubledealer}} and also took mental control over Nightbeat and sent in hordes of Micromasters when the Autobot, alongside [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]], began investigating on Gorlam Prime. Unfortunately, his intricate and long-plotted strategy was undermined by Hardhead's "shoot people in the head" plan. He also monitored the Autobots' efforts to withstand their attacks. When he noticed [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] preparing to disrupt his mental control over the guardians, he took mental control of [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] to defend the project. {{storylink|Spotlight: Doubledealer}}

Unfortunately, as Jetfire pointed out, the Autobots were quickly destroying all his hard work, and his attention was divided. So much so that he not only was frozen and distracted from offing Jetfire, he didn't realise someone was in his control room until they sliced off his arm. Turning round, he was faced with a gleeful Arcee.

Making a run for it, and using his Micromasters to keep Arcee busy, he made his escape through the portal... or he would have if an undead Hardhead hadn't popped up, slowing Jhiaxus down enough for Arcee to stab him and cut off his head. But, in the realm between the living and dead universes, Jhiaxus was practically immortal. Which meant Arcee could keep killing him for as long as she liked. {{storylink|Spotlight: Sideswipe}}

Helpless, Jhiaxus spent several years being repeatedly killed by Arcee over and over again, until one day when the portal to the Dead Universe suddenly began to act strangely and lure people into mindlessly wandering into it. The entire Micromaster population of Gorlam Prime disappeared into the Dead Universe, and though Jhiaxus was also tempted, he was seemingly too damaged to follow them. Arcee and Hardhead subsequently left him to investigate the matter. {{storylink|Heart of Darkness issue 2|Heart of Darkness #2}} Eventually, his broken body was discovered by Galvatron, who had earlier betrayed Nemesis Prime and stolen the [[Darkness (G1)|Heart of Darkness]] from him. Jhiaxus was restored by the power of the Darkness, though he was disoriented and couldn't explain where everyone on the planet had gone to. At the portal's location, Arcee and Hardhead returned and attacked them. Filled with terror upon seeing his tormentor again, Jhiaxus tried to fight back against her, with little success. Galvatron managed to chase Arcee off and read Hardhead's memories to learn what happened on Gorlam Prime, eventually learning of the "[[D-Void]]", a major threat to all Transformers.
