'''Beachcomber''' has a hard time reconciling his love of peace and freedom for all creatures with the need to combat those who threaten it. Furthermore, however just the cause for which it was fought, the gruesome and destructive aftermath of any battle sickens him to the spark.

Sometimes, when the internal struggle gets too heavy, he simply has to wander into the wilderness and cleanse his soul. Even there, far from civilization, he sometimes finds strange substances to aid the Autobot cause, for Beachcomber is a skilled naturalist, and geology is his specialty, man. He often tries to preserve or even to hide these discoveries, but he has seen too much evil done by the ruthless Decepticons to conceal any possible source of aid completely from his allies.

Beachcomber's geology tools include a wide array of sensors (magnetic, seismic, sonic, infrared) and a 'sonic pick' which can cut through rock. Beachcomber can use his magnetic sensors to navigate like a compass, but local magnetic disturbances can cause this to lead him astray. His sonic probes possess only limited range.

Beachcomber is neither very fast nor very strong, and his antiwar sentiments gain him little respect from the more martial of the Autobots, yet he is agile and skilled in a fight, and his courage is beyond all reproach.

Beachcomber showed up out of nowhere one day, helping [[Hound (G1)|Hound]], [[Inferno (G1)|Inferno]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] investigate some [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] attacks on an old growth forest. This unit proved to be sufficiently under-powered when it came to confronting freshly fed Insecticons, and their battle strategy amounted to hiding behind Hound's holograms until the bad robots went away. {{storylink|The Insecticon Syndrome}} He was next seen on [[Dinobot Island (G1)|Dinobot Island]], worrying that the battle with the Decepticons would destroy the environment before it could be properly studied, but at least he was still fighting while complaining. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 2}}

Beachcomber, along with the other Autobots, were exiled from Earth after Megatron allied with greedy businessman [[Shawn Berger]] to create anti-Autobot propaganda. {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1}} He and the other Autobots managed to return to Earth thanks to [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]]'s force field and [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]]' navigation. {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2}}

Unlike the next time. On a geology expedition with [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and several other Autobots, Beachcomber abandoned them in the middle of a firefight to explore a cave in the nearby cliffside. While his friends were dodging laser fire and trading blows, Beachcomber was learning to speak parakeet and communing with nature. He also found a golden lagoon full of [[electrum]], a naturally-occurring element which would make any Transformer impervious to harm. He dipped his hand into the lagoon, and it turned completely gold in color. Beachcomber hid this information from his fellow Autobots, and even kept his silence after [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] arrived coated in electrum and drove the Autobots into retreat, capturing two of their number in the process. Valuing the scenic beauty surrounding the electrum pool, Beachcomber still refused to warn his comrades after the ''entire Decepticon army'' arrived coated with invincible golden armor. He went solo to check on the lagoon, and was captured by the Decepticons. Some of the dumber [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] acted as his prison guards at the Decepticon sunken base, though, and Beachcomber managed to escape alongside his fellow prisoners Perceptor and [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]].

Reaching the electrum pool, the trio was met by [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the rest of the Autobots, who had independently uncovered the pool's location thanks to [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]]. Realizing his golden hand would give him away, Beachcomber quickly dove into the electrum to disguise his prior knowledge of the substance. In the final battle with the Decepticons, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] ordered the electrum pool destroyed rather than sharing it with the Autobots. In the aftermath of the explosion, the wilderness was totally decimated. Beachcomber never told the Autobots that he had known about the Decepticons' secret weapon and had kept silent, and instead sat around mourning the loss of the grass and trees.

Beachcomber briefly maintained a position at the Autobots' New York City base inside [[Sparkplug Witwicky|Sparkplug's]] garage. {{storylink|Make Tracks}} He was also seen attending Teletraan I when the Autobots were engaged with the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] and [[Morphobot]]s. {{storylink|Quest for Survival}} Beachcomber was next seen protecting [[San Francisco]] from an alien bird-dragon unleashed on Earth by the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]]. He tried appealing to the creature, thinking that we're all one with the same universe. Yeah... that didn't work well. {{storylink|The Secret of Omega Supreme}} When the energy creature called [[Kremzeek]] assaulted the Ark, Beachcomber was one of the first Autobots short-circuited by the little creep. {{storylink|Kremzeek!}}

Beachcomber was later kidnapped by a greedy toll booth and forced to drive in a circle while hopping over spike-traps. It might make more sense if we explained it better, but it would be nowhere near as funny. {{storylink|Prime Target}}

Next, after Megatron kidnapped [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and then voluntarily let him go, Beachcomber joined the ''entire Autobot team'' in riding out a few miles from the base to retrieve their friend. In 2006, Beachcomber was stationed at the Ark with [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]], [[Pipes (G1)|Pipes]] and several others when [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] came to destroy it. As a member of the [[4-Wheel-Drive Brigade]], Beachcomber confronted the [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticons]] out in the desert, only to be caught in an explosive mine trap and fall into a pit. Working together, Beachcomber and the others combined their Scramble Power and worked their way free of the pit. Later, Beachcomber was part of a group who arrived to back up [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]], who was defending a [[Murdered puppy|dog]] that had been cruelly experimented on by the [[Decepticon]]s from being hunted and captured by the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]]. He and the other [[Mini Vehicle|Minibots]] [[Minibot combiner|combined]] with Powerglide in their vehicle modes thanks to the [[Decepticon super science|experimental energies]] within the dog, and spinning furiously, smashed through [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]'s chest and out the other side in a flying drill attack.

Beachcomber was a member of Perceptor's resistance cell on Cybertron who disobeyed orders along with most of the cell to help [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] recover [[Scrounge (G1)|Scrounge]] from the [[smelting pool]]. He actually demonstrated some uncharacteristic strength and gusto, tearing down a [[laser sentinel tower]] with his bare hands. The rescue mission failed, but they did recover Scrounge's stolen data, and learned that Optimus Prime and the crew of the Ark were alive and fighting on Earth.{{storylink|The Smelting Pool!}}

Soon after, Perceptor's crew began a mission to destroy the [[Space Bridge]] before the Decepticons on Earth and Cybertron could begin trading resources. Beachcomber used his geological skills to map out a safe path underneath the planet's surface to bomb the underlying support structures of [[Darkmount]], bringing down [[Straxus (G1)|Straxus]]'s whole fortress. The unit failed to destroy the Space Bridge, however, and were ultimately forced to retreat across the Bridge to Earth. {{storylink|The Bridge to Nowhere!}}

Beachcomber and his fellows were taken captive by [[Rapid Anti-robot Assault Team|RAAT]] and their commanding officer, the robot-hater [[Circuit Breaker]], and their heads were mounted on the wall of their headquarters. {{storylink|Aerialbots over America!}} Circuit Breaker showed footage of their defeat to fellow RAAT operative [[Walter Barnett]]. Beachcomber managed to avoid virtually all kinds of fighting for the rest of his time on Earth, doing nothing more strenuous than getting shot at by the Ark's own defense systems. {{storylink|Funeral for a Friend!}} While he did champion Blaster for replacing [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] as the Autobots' commander, this didn't stop Beachcomber from whining about senseless violence throughout their duel on the moon. Beachcomber was spurred into action against [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]]'s regime on Cybertron when Optimus Prime returned to the planet and rallied the Autobots into action. His actual contribution to the insurrection is undocumented, but it's entirely possible he may have even picked up a weapon. Afterwards, Beachcomber was assigned to a mission suitable for his pacifism, as part of Bumblebee's supply crew on the ''[[Orion (ship)|Orion]]'', bringing news and fuel to their comrades on Earth. {{storylink|Night of the Combaticons}} Little did they know they would be caught up in heavy combat with [[Sunstorm (G1)|Sunstorm]]. Beachcomber was supposed to be guarding Sunstorm's primary target, the Decepticon [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], in an Alaskan bunker. Ultimately, Blaster confronted him about it and forced him to fight against his Decepticon control. After eventually recovering, Beachcomber ended up among the Autobot forces on Earth. Alongside [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]], [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] and [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]], he attempted to find and join [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]], who was trying to get off the planet, only to drive straight into a [[Skywatch]] ambush. Beachcomber was the first to be deactivated when a human named [[Campologno]] zapped him using a hi-tech suit. : Maybe. Alpha Trion's description of his home universe doesn't totally mesh with what we're shown in Shattered Glass. He says his world was at peace and the war was over. But SG Prime dumped his "Old One" seemingly in the middle of that world's conflict. Though it would make sense, personality-wise, it would require A3 to lie. Not outside the realm of possibility, but not something we can totally count on. :: I might note that the apparent discrepancy between A3's description and the "Shattered" reality as we know it can be explained by several means. 1) A3 is lying (as you, Walky, suggest), 2) Sideswipe is lying (unlikely), 3) It might be important to note when A3 is pulled out of the Shattered reality. We don't really get that strongly that A3 was "dumped" ''by'' Prime (although this is certainly likely), nor that it occurred in the "middle" of the conflict. It could, for example, be before the Decepticons were a force to be reckoned with, and Prime was ruling his world with an iron fist. We definitely get the impression that the Decepticon rebellion had to build up from almost nothing, and that this took a long-time grass-roots effort. 4) Perhaps A3's craziness extends to how he viewed even his home universe. :::Just got the latest issue in the mail, and it sounds even more unlikely that he comes from the Shatterverse. Alpha Trion to Skyfall: "This sword was not originally mine. It belonged to a Decepticon leader named 'Slaughter'. It contains much of his original programming, encrypted so deeply that it is impossible to change or remove. The bearer of the sword is under constant assault by the thoughts of an ancient and evil mind. [...] But these many years, I have resisted this sword's evil influence. I believe you embody a similar strength of character." While it's ''possible'' that Trion is a warmongering Autobot who sees the peace-loving Decepticons as "evil," his fear of the sword seems out of place in that scenario; I would expect contempt. Plus he's giving it to an Autobot who has shown no signs of the Shatterversal inversion, and Trion certainly would've figured out by this point that the Shatterverse isn't the norm. Doesn't anyone figure that some completely different characters happen to have the same name because one of them changed their original name? Maybe SG Alpha Trion's original name wasn't good enough for him so he changed into something he thought was original, much like how two completely different humans can have the same name because of a change. Of course, SG Alpha Trion probably wouldn't have let anone call him by his fictionally real name so we wouldn't ever hear about it in the canon. Maybe this is how it works: The SG [[universal stream]] is not numbered according to the Old One's release date because it represents him while he was pretending to be ''not'' evil. He revealed that the TransTechs that ruled over the city were an untrustworthy and manipulative lot, and that there were personality inhibitors broadcast through satellites in this [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron's]] orbit. Furthermore, they had a habit of abducting certain mechs of interest, and were likely probing the slag out of poor Breakaway somewhere. Skyfall and Landquake began to feel uncomfortable, so Alpha Trion tried to reassure them. He led the two to his room full of ceiling-suspended TransTech corpses. {{storylink|Transcendent: Part 2}}

For some reason, that didn't work. Alpha Trion's helper, Topspin, arrived to explain, noting that none of the corpses were actually dead, as their [[spark]]s were kept safe elsewhere. These were nothing more than their experiments in trying to help mechs escape Axiom Nexus, as its inhabitants' bodies are tagged. Speaking privately with Skyfall, Alpha Trion gave him his own sword for safekeeping. He warned it once belonged to a Decepticon named Slaughter, and though it could influence terribly the thoughts of the bearer, Alpha Trion believed Skyfall had as strong a spirit as himself. Nightscream brought word to Alpha Trion: He had learned where the TransTech had taken Breakaway! Alpha Trion informed his acolytes that they would attack that very night. {{storylink|Transcendent: Part 4}} Gathering Nightscream, Scavenger, Blackarachnia, Immorticon, Topspin, and an increasingly suspicious Skyfall and Landquake, Alpha Trion stormed the [[Transwarp Complex]] in search of Shockwave's lab and the Transit Room. After he killed the guards and ran [[Depth Charge (TransTech)|Depth Charge]] through with his sword, he reminded Skyfall of the terrible influence of his evil weapon. He took Skyfall, Landquake, and Immorticon with him towards the lab and ordered the others to occupy the Transit Room. Skyfall's conscience and strength of will would have served as a distraction in Alpha Trion's coming rise to power, and "Reunification" could take place with one of "them" dead. Alpha Trion and the others appeared back in his home universe within his old lab. Though Alpha Trion wished to get directly at the task at hand, Breakaway and Landquake obviously had questions about Skyfall's demise. When pressed on the issue, Alpha Trion told Landquake that Skyfall had been shot from behind on their way through the portal, but Breakaway was quick to note that Skyfall had a blade wound, not a gun wound. Alpha Trion sighed, and as more of his acolytes (ones native to this universe) arrived, he called for them to seize the two... and Topspin. {{storylink|Reunification: Part 1}} Topspin was puzzled, to say the least, as he had been very loyal to Alpha Trion. This act of betrayal unhinged Topspin, and after he killed [[Kickback (SG)|one of Alpha Trion's acolytes]], the three were able to escape Alpha Trion's lab with Skyfall's body.
