:Beachcomber is an Autobot from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Beachcomber has a hard time reconciling his love of peace and freedom for all creatures with the need to combat those who threaten it. Furthermore, however just the cause for which it was fought, the gruesome and destructive aftermath of any battle sickens him to the spark.

Sometimes, when the internal struggle gets too heavy, he simply has to wander into the wilderness and cleanse his soul. Even there, far from civilization, he sometimes finds strange substances to aid the Autobot cause, for Beachcomber is a skilled naturalist, and geology is his specialty, man. He often tries to preserve or even to hide these discoveries, but he has seen too much evil done by the ruthless Decepticons to conceal any possible source of aid completely from his allies.

Beachcomber's geology tools include a wide array of sensors (magnetic, seismic, sonic, infrared) and a 'sonic pick' which can cut through rock. Beachcomber can use his magnetic sensors to navigate like a compass, but local magnetic disturbances can cause this to lead him astray. His sonic probes possess only limited range.

Beachcomber is neither very fast nor very strong, and his antiwar sentiments gain him little respect from the more martial of the Autobots, yet he is agile and skilled in a fight, and his courage is beyond all reproach.
:Voice Actor: Alan Oppenheimer (English), Osamu Saka (Japanese), Vladimiro Conti (Italian, second dub), Jorge García (Latin American)

Beachcomber showed up out of nowhere one day, helping Hound, Inferno and Bumblebee investigate some Insecticon attacks on an old growth forest. This unit proved to be sufficiently under-powered when it came to confronting freshly fed Insecticons, and their battle strategy amounted to hiding behind Hound's holograms until the bad robots went away. The Insecticon Syndrome He was next seen on Dinobot Island, worrying that the battle with the Decepticons would destroy the environment before it could be properly studied, but at least he was still fighting while complaining. Dinobot Island, Part 2

Beachcomber, along with the other Autobots, were exiled from Earth after Megatron allied with greedy businessman Shawn Berger to create anti-Autobot propaganda. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1 He and the other Autobots managed to return to Earth thanks to Trailbreaker's force field and Cosmos' navigation. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2

Unlike the next time. On a geology expedition with Perceptor and several other Autobots, Beachcomber abandoned them in the middle of a firefight to explore a cave in the nearby cliffside. While his friends were dodging laser fire and trading blows, Beachcomber was learning to speak parakeet and communing with nature. He also found a golden lagoon full of electrum, a naturally-occurring element which would make any Transformer impervious to harm. He dipped his hand into the lagoon, and it turned completely gold in color. Beachcomber hid this information from his fellow Autobots, and even kept his silence after Thrust arrived coated in electrum and drove the Autobots into retreat, capturing two of their number in the process. Valuing the scenic beauty surrounding the electrum pool, Beachcomber still refused to warn his comrades after the entire Decepticon army arrived coated with invincible golden armor. He went solo to check on the lagoon, and was captured by the Decepticons. Some of the dumber Seekers acted as his prison guards at the Decepticon sunken base, though, and Beachcomber managed to escape alongside his fellow prisoners Perceptor and Seaspray.

Reaching the electrum pool, the trio was met by Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots, who had independently uncovered the pool's location thanks to Powerglide. Realizing his golden hand would give him away, Beachcomber quickly dove into the electrum to disguise his prior knowledge of the substance. In the final battle with the Decepticons, Megatron ordered the electrum pool destroyed rather than sharing it with the Autobots. In the aftermath of the explosion, the wilderness was totally decimated. Beachcomber never told the Autobots that he had known about the Decepticons' secret weapon and had kept silent, and instead sat around mourning the loss of the grass and trees.

Beachcomber is kinda a selfish dick, honestly. The Golden Lagoon

Beachcomber briefly maintained a position at the Autobots' New York City base inside Sparkplug's garage. Make Tracks He was also seen attending Teletraan I when the Autobots were engaged with the Insecticons and Morphobots. Quest for Survival Beachcomber was next seen protecting San Francisco from an alien bird-dragon unleashed on Earth by the Constructicons. He tried appealing to the creature, thinking that we're all one with the same universe. Yeah... that didn't work well. The Secret of Omega Supreme When the energy creature called Kremzeek assaulted the Ark, Beachcomber was one of the first Autobots short-circuited by the little creep. Kremzeek!

Beachcomber was later kidnapped by a greedy toll booth and forced to drive in a circle while hopping over spike-traps. It might make more sense if we explained it better, but it would be nowhere near as funny. Prime Target

Next, after Megatron kidnapped Perceptor and then voluntarily let him go, Beachcomber joined the entire Autobot team in riding out a few miles from the base to retrieve their friend. Why several dozen Autobots were needed for such a simple mission...is unknown. Cosmic Rust (episode)

In 2006, Beachcomber was stationed at the Ark with Warpath, Pipes and several others when Trypticon came to destroy it. Their feeble efforts to defend the spacecraft were barely noted by the dinosaur robot. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5
As a member of the 4-Wheel-Drive Brigade, Beachcomber confronted the Insecticons out in the desert, only to be caught in an explosive mine trap and fall into a pit. Working together, Beachcomber and the others combined their Scramble Power and worked their way free of the pit. A concentrated Scrumbuster attack drove off the Decepticons, and the Autobots won the day. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 3

Later, Beachcomber was part of a group who arrived to back up Powerglide, who was defending a dog that had been cruelly experimented on by the Decepticons from being hunted and captured by the Combaticons. He and the other Minibots combined with Powerglide in their vehicle modes thanks to the experimental energies within the dog, and spinning furiously, smashed through Bruticus's chest and out the other side in a flying drill attack.
No, seriously. Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 8
Beachcomber fought alongside the Dinobots and Throttlebots on Cybertron in 2011. Mindwipe's hypnotic wave forced him and his allies to fall asleep. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky

Beachcomber was a member of Perceptor's resistance cell on Cybertron who disobeyed orders along with most of the cell to help Blaster recover Scrounge from the smelting pool. He actually demonstrated some uncharacteristic strength and gusto, tearing down a laser sentinel tower with his bare hands. The rescue mission failed, but they did recover Scrounge's stolen data, and learned that Optimus Prime and the crew of the Ark were alive and fighting on Earth. The Smelting Pool!

Soon after, Perceptor's crew began a mission to destroy the Space Bridge before the Decepticons on Earth and Cybertron could begin trading resources. Beachcomber used his geological skills to map out a safe path underneath the planet's surface to bomb the underlying support structures of Darkmount, bringing down Straxus's whole fortress. The unit failed to destroy the Space Bridge, however, and were ultimately forced to retreat across the Bridge to Earth. The Bridge to Nowhere!

Beachcomber and his fellows were taken captive by RAAT and their commanding officer, the robot-hater Circuit Breaker, and their heads were mounted on the wall of their headquarters. Aerialbots over America! Circuit Breaker showed footage of their defeat to fellow RAAT operative Walter Barnett. Meanwhile, Skids and the shifty human Donny Finkleberg were sent on a mission to determine their whereabouts, but Finkleberg sold out Skids to RAAT as well. Heavy Traffic! Ultimately, Finkleberg redeemed himself by forcing the captured Autobots' release as part of a deal. If the combined bodies of Beachcomber and the other captives could successfully aid in the defeat of the vandalizing Battlechargers, they would be set free. And so it was. Beachcomber and the others headed home, directed by Skids, when the time-traveling Galvatron took their guide's place. Galvatron tore his way through the group, one by one, with Beachcomber one of his casualties. Resurrection!

Beachcomber managed to avoid virtually all kinds of fighting for the rest of his time on Earth, doing nothing more strenuous than getting shot at by the Ark's own defense systems. Funeral for a Friend! While he did champion Blaster for replacing Grimlock as the Autobots' commander, this didn't stop Beachcomber from whining about senseless violence throughout their duel on the moon. Luckily, a Decepticon strike force arrived to drown out his voice with some lasers and explosives. Totaled!

When the Autobots rescued Buster Witwicky from the Arctic and were ambushed by the Decepticons, Beachcomber was among the first to be attacked, set upon and mauled by Mindwipe. Dark Star (issue)

Presumably, this rendered him non-functional, as Beachcomber was last seen laying deactivated aboard The Ark as Ratchet attempted to repair him. Deathbringer (issue)
Marvel UK future timelines
When the Quintessons raided Autobot City in 2008, Beachcomber and Air Raid rushed to defend their home with a team of fellow Autobots. Unfortunately, the Quintesson shock troops were too much for them, and quickly overran the defenders. Beachcomber and his Aerialbot buddy made a run for back-up, but were jumped from behind and taken out with the rest. Space Pirates!

Find Your Fate Junior
Beachcomber had to find a path to the surface from the cave system the Autobots were trapped in. He explored the system of underground lakes, marveling at the many strange things that lived there. While recharging the Sun-Pak on the surface, he was attacked by Kickback, and had to be saved by Sparkplug. How humiliating. Attack of the Insecticons

In the 'unsuccessful' ending to this multipath adventure, Beachcomber became lost when his magnetic sensors erroneously led him directly to Megatron. He did not regret this error for long.

Beachcomber discovered Rumble practicing his earthquakes near a concealed base and learned of a Decepticon plan to destroy nearby Center City.

Optimus Prime decided that such grave news required a pinpoint response with utmost secrecy... so he sent the recklessly impulsive Windcharger, the bombastic Powerglide, and Beachcomber to babysit the other two. Earthquake (book)
Beachcomber was spurred into action against Shockwave's regime on Cybertron when Optimus Prime returned to the planet and rallied the Autobots into action. His actual contribution to the insurrection is undocumented, but it's entirely possible he may have even picked up a weapon. Really. Countdown to Extinction (issue)

Afterwards, Beachcomber was assigned to a mission suitable for his pacifism, as part of Bumblebee's supply crew on the Orion, bringing news and fuel to their comrades on Earth. Night of the Combaticons Little did they know they would be caught up in heavy combat with Sunstorm. Beachcomber was supposed to be guarding Sunstorm's primary target, the Decepticon Starscream, in an Alaskan bunker. Now, of course, the question isn't whether Starscream betrayed them at the first opportunity; it's whether Beachcomber even bothered to pick up his gun and try to stop Starscream, or just passively let the 'Con gun him down. The Omega Effect

IDW comics continuity
Early in the war, Beachcomber, along with Brawn and Cosmos, met with the damaged Jazz and Tracks when their transport ship returned to HQ. Spotlight: Jazz

Four million years ago, Beachcomber was present at a victory celebration after the Autobots halted a major Decepticon energon convoy. The Iron Age

Later, Beachcomber was captured by Soundwave, who used Bombshell to inject him with a cerebro-shell. Under its control, Beachcomber attempted on three occasions to assassinate Blaster. Ultimately, Blaster confronted him about it and forced him to fight against his Decepticon control. Though his mental resistance shorted out the shell, his neural processors were severely damaged as well. Spotlight: Blaster

After eventually recovering, Beachcomber ended up among the Autobot forces on Earth. When Ultra Magnus visited to investigate Optimus Prime's surrender, Beachcomber feared that they might all get arrested, and decided to leave the team. Alongside Blurr, Hoist and Tracks, he attempted to find and join Hot Rod, who was trying to get off the planet, only to drive straight into a Skywatch ambush. Beachcomber was the first to be deactivated when a human named Campologno zapped him using a hi-tech suit. The captured Autobots were brought into the hanger where Optimus Prime was being imprisoned by Major Witwicky in an attempt to get the Autobot leader to cooperate. A Rude Awakening

Timelines: Wings of Honor continuity
In 2010, Beachcomber was stationed at Autobot City. He was led into battle by Jazz as the Autobots came to the rescue of Pyro's forces at the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland. In the aftermath of the battle, they were exposed to the mutating properties of forestonite, developing new color schemes and abilities. Beachcomber became a real flower-child, taking on an environmentally-friendly green paint scheme and causing plantlife to grow wherever he walked. Generation 2: Redux
So, this would be the old coot that Shattered Glass Optimus and crew shuffled off?--RosicrucianTalk 03:13, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
: Maybe. Alpha Trion's description of his home universe doesn't totally mesh with what we're shown in Shattered Glass. He says his world was at peace and the war was over. But SG Prime dumped his "Old One" seemingly in the middle of that world's conflict. Though it would make sense, personality-wise, it would require A3 to lie. Not outside the realm of possibility, but not something we can totally count on. A trivia note about the distinct possibility is in order, so long as we don't overdue it. --ItsWalky 03:16, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
:: I might note that the apparent discrepancy between A3's description and the "Shattered" reality as we know it can be explained by several means. 1) A3 is lying (as you, Walky, suggest), 2) Sideswipe is lying (unlikely), 3) It might be important to note when A3 is pulled out of the Shattered reality. We don't really get that strongly that A3 was "dumped" by Prime (although this is certainly likely), nor that it occurred in the "middle" of the conflict. It could, for example, be before the Decepticons were a force to be reckoned with, and Prime was ruling his world with an iron fist. We definitely get the impression that the Decepticon rebellion had to build up from almost nothing, and that this took a long-time grass-roots effort. 4) Perhaps A3's craziness extends to how he viewed even his home universe. He honestly thinks that his world was at peace, but is incapable of comprehending the full reality due to his madness.--[[User:G.B. Blackrock|G.B. :::Just got the latest issue in the mail, and it sounds even more unlikely that he comes from the Shatterverse. Alpha Trion to Skyfall: "This sword was not originally mine. It belonged to a Decepticon leader named 'Slaughter'. It contains much of his original programming, encrypted so deeply that it is impossible to change or remove. The bearer of the sword is under constant assault by the thoughts of an ancient and evil mind. [...] But these many years, I have resisted this sword's evil influence. I believe you embody a similar strength of character." While it's possible that Trion is a warmongering Autobot who sees the peace-loving Decepticons as "evil," his fear of the sword seems out of place in that scenario; I would expect contempt. Plus he's giving it to an Autobot who has shown no signs of the Shatterversal inversion, and Trion certainly would've figured out by this point that the Shatterverse isn't the norm. And on top of it all, "Slaughter" is an unlikely name for a heroic Decepticon. - Jackpot 21:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
::::I'll add to the above that there seems to be no indication that A3 got this sword from a Shattered Universe Decepticon, even assuming he's telling the truth about that part. (I confess I don't have my copy yet, so feel free to correct me on that). He may have picked up the sword some time after his departure from his "home" universe. "Slaughter" is a perfectly likely name for a non-heroic Decepticon....--[[User:G.B. :::::I suppose that's true; Slaughter could've been a denizen of Axiom Nexus, or maybe A3 had traveled to other universes between the Shatterverse and the TTverse. Doesn't anyone figure that some completely different characters happen to have the same name because one of them changed their original name? Maybe SG Alpha Trion's original name wasn't good enough for him so he changed into something he thought was original, much like how two completely different humans can have the same name because of a change. Of course, SG Alpha Trion probably wouldn't have let anone call him by his fictionally real name so we wouldn't ever hear about it in the canon. ::::::::::I find repurposing more likely, since universal streams are numbered by date, and the main SG universe gets an April 2008 number, while his toy was released during BotCon 2007. :::::::::::As I've kind of explained in multiple edit summaries already, since Reunification is a part of the main continuity, that angle doesn't help. Especially since we don't use the universal streams in determining this sort of thing anyway. (In fact, we really don't use universal streams to determine... anything, AFAIK. You shouldn't dwell on them except as a bit of fun trivia.)
:::::::::::And, if you check Trion's disambig, there are, in fact, lots of nigh-identical Trions out there. --Jeysie 03:05, 16 February 2010 (EST)
Aha!
Maybe this is how it works: The SG universal stream is not numbered according to the Old One's release date because it represents him while he was pretending to be not evil. Which is why it hasn't got a purple Autobot logo. It's the first toy of an SG character, but it doesn't represent something within the SG universe.

More importantly, why does the Notes section have this bit:

He mostly appeared in the fan club magazine stories, which aren't called Timelines. So, shouldn't a more appropriate label (like Fun Publications) be used? I'd simply change it myself without asking this, but I'm not sure.Item42 08:24, 15 March 2010 (EDT)
:The universal stream is always numbered/labeled according to the fiction, with the actual stories taking precedence over toy bios. Everything SG thus gets its designator solely from the BotCon issue that started the storyline.
:You do have a point about the Timelines section, though. I presume people just tend to reflexively think of everything released through the Fanclub as Timelines. So now I find myself wondering if Alpha Trion's sword = that there Terminus Blade. --Jeysie 19:13, 25 October 2009 (EDT)
: That seems likely! It's probably the SG counterpart of the Key to Vector Sigma. (And would explain why it's one of the few things that can pierce Skyfall's personal forceshield.) --ItsWalky 13:29, 15 March 2010 (EDT)
Maximals Blackarachnia and Nightscream and Predacons Scavenger and Immorticon soon fell under his wing. He easily turned their feelings against the TransTech government, as they had dealt with corruption in their native universe, and once Alpha Trion had also accumulated a skilled Transformer named Topspin, the experiments began. With Topspin's help, Alpha Trion was able to move the sparks of his Maximal and Predacon acolytes into new TransTech bodies Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club issue 25 as well as a few other unfortunates. I, Lowtech But Topspin himself was the piece to a larger puzzle, and one that Alpha Trion, with his intimate knowledge of Cybertronian lore, had devious plans for. All he needed were the other pieces. Reunification: Part 2

Alpha Trion soon found these pieces. He was assigned to three newcomers to Axiom Nexus, Skyfall, Landquake, and Breakaway, and instructed to help them acclimate to their new dimension. However, after Breakaway was abducted right under their noses by mechs unknown, Transcendent: Part 1 Alpha Trion revealed his real plan. He revealed that the TransTechs that ruled over the city were an untrustworthy and manipulative lot, and that there were personality inhibitors broadcast through satellites in this Cybertron's orbit. Furthermore, they had a habit of abducting certain mechs of interest, and were likely probing the slag out of poor Breakaway somewhere. Skyfall and Landquake began to feel uncomfortable, so Alpha Trion tried to reassure them. He led the two to his room full of ceiling-suspended TransTech corpses. Transcendent: Part 2

For some reason, that didn't work. Alpha Trion's helper, Topspin, arrived to explain, noting that none of the corpses were actually dead, as their sparks were kept safe elsewhere. These were nothing more than their experiments in trying to help mechs escape Axiom Nexus, as its inhabitants' bodies are tagged. Speaking privately with Skyfall, Alpha Trion gave him his own sword for safekeeping. He warned it once belonged to a Decepticon named Slaughter, and though it could influence terribly the thoughts of the bearer, Alpha Trion believed Skyfall had as strong a spirit as himself. Should Alpha Trion fall, Skyfall would have to keep it. Transcendent: Part 3

Nightscream brought word to Alpha Trion: He had learned where the TransTech had taken Breakaway! Alpha Trion informed his acolytes that they would attack that very night. Transcendent: Part 4 Gathering Nightscream, Scavenger, Blackarachnia, Immorticon, Topspin, and an increasingly suspicious Skyfall and Landquake, Alpha Trion stormed the Transwarp Complex in search of Shockwave's lab and the Transit Room. After he killed the guards and ran Depth Charge through with his sword, he reminded Skyfall of the terrible influence of his evil weapon. He took Skyfall, Landquake, and Immorticon with him towards the lab and ordered the others to occupy the Transit Room. Unfortunately, Megatron was in their way. Transcendent: Part 5 It wasn't long before the TransTech military commander struck a devastating blow, mutilating one side of Alpha Trion's face. But he and the two multiversal hitchhikers made their getaway (with Breakaway in tow) as Megatron was busy reducing Immorticon to rubble.

As the group neared the Transit Room, Alpha Trion told Skyfall of his great importance, how back in his original universe, Vector Sigma had told him that "Primus is calling his first sons home." Unfortunately for Skyfall, Alpha Trion had different plans. While the others disappeared through the Transit Room into Alpha Trion's original universe, he impaled Skyfall with his sword, killing him. Skyfall's conscience and strength of will would have served as a distraction in Alpha Trion's coming rise to power, and "Reunification" could take place with one of "them" dead. He then ordered Nightscream to drag the body through the portal with them, as Alpha Trion had a universe to conquer. Transcendent: Part 6

Alpha Trion and the others appeared back in his home universe within his old lab. Though Alpha Trion wished to get directly at the task at hand, Breakaway and Landquake obviously had questions about Skyfall's demise. When pressed on the issue, Alpha Trion told Landquake that Skyfall had been shot from behind on their way through the portal, but Breakaway was quick to note that Skyfall had a blade wound, not a gun wound. Alpha Trion sighed, and as more of his acolytes (ones native to this universe) arrived, he called for them to seize the two... and Topspin. Reunification: Part 1 Topspin was puzzled, to say the least, as he had been very loyal to Alpha Trion. This act of betrayal unhinged Topspin, and after he killed one of Alpha Trion's acolytes, the three were able to escape Alpha Trion's lab with Skyfall's body. Alpha Trion decided to move his group to another of his labs and hunt them down another day. Reunification: Part 2

Some weeks later, Alpha Trion communicated with Rodimus that his plans were in place and he was ready to strike. Rodimus' assassins would kill Optimus Prime at the same time Trion's agents killed Megatron, thus paving the way for the two of them to conquer Cybertron and Earth. Reunification: Part 3

After Remote Patrol Six attempted (and miserably failed) to kill Optimus Prime, Alpha Trion showed up with Sky Lynx and Nightscream to try and kill Prime himself, only to be introduced to Omega Doom's cannon. Reunification: Part 5

He survived the cannon blast, though the Decepticons had taken his Stellar Spanner back to their base, and destroyed it after Nexus Prime and Aquarius passed through it to parts unknown. Reunification: Part 6
**Accessories: Sword, missile, Cyber Planet Key

: A bagged set of Alpha Trion, Beta Maxx and Weirdwolf was released at BotCon 2007 as a souvenir set add-on, limited to 1400 pieces. Alpha Trion was a retool of Cybertron Vector Prime, redecoed in purple, white, and red, plus a new head.

: Alpha Trion transforms into a large Cybertronian space cruiser with "solar panel" wings, his shape seemingly taking cues from both the Beast Wars starship Axalon and the Star Wars Sith Infiltrator. His nosecone has a spring-loaded missile launcher at the tip. Inserting his Cyber Planet Key (painted gold to resemble the Key to Vector Sigma) does not activate any sounds, unlike Vector Prime's toy. Alpha Trion has the more flexible translucent plastic parts (for safety reasons) of the Hasbro version of the mold.
Notes
* Timelines Alpha Trion's profile card is super-misleading! It doesn't mention how he's evil at all! Just stuff about how he knows lots of things and has advised lots of Transformers, which is technically true. And how we don't know much about him yet. It doesn't say he's not evil, but...
* However, the profile card does state that Beta Maxx is his "constant companion." We've never seen Beta Maxx in any fiction, despite the numerous appearances of this Alpha Trion thus far...
* The situation with Alpha Trion is a little difficult, he might have been intended to be part of the Classics toyline, but never made an appearance in that universe fiction-wise. The toy's bio also does not contradict its status of being a "Shattered Glass" toy. He just "evolved" into what we now have with the publishing of Shattered Glass stories featuring him, but he was always kind of hinted at being sinister. So he might be the first "official" Shattered Glass toy or technically a repurposing.
* Seeing as Alpha Trion is the only one who can control the Omega Terminus, his sword may be the fabled "Terminus Blade",the only object that can control the supercomputer.
