The awesomely powerful '''Megatron''' is, in many ways, a fallen hero. He rose up from the oppressed lower working castes of [[Kaon]] to become a champion in the region's illegal [[gladiatorial combat|deathmatches]], cast aside his designation of '''D-16''' and took the legendary name '''[[The Fallen|Megatronus]]'''<ref>Megatron was an abbreviation, so it'd be easier for the masses to chant his name; ''Transformers: Exodus'', Chapter 3</ref> as his own, he called for an end to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s decrepit [[caste system]] and told the downtrodden that freedom of self-determination was the right of all sentient beings!

But absolute power corrupts absolutely, and Megatron's Decepticon revolution, like many such movements, ended up becoming a whole new tyranny. Powerful, charismatic, violent, and full of rage for any who would stand in the way of his ambition and drive, Megatron brought Cybertron ''past'' the brink of destruction. Now he and his former brother-in-arms [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] fight on other worlds. Megatron will never forgive Optimus for "betraying" him, stealing from the Council the rank of Prime which was rightfully his. He has reserved for his old friend the greatest honor possible: glorious death at his hands.

Megatron has been gone for three years, but now he's returned. He's brought the monstrous [[Dark Energon]] to Earth, and quite possibly left his sanity in space.

Megatron nicknamed himself D-16 after the sector of the mine where he performed demolition operations. As a gladiator, in killing others he began to appreciate the value of life, and in between matches he became something of an intellectual, debating the castes with other miners. After bosses requested he lose a few fights, D-16 killed them and took over Kaon and [[Slaughter City]]. After murdering one boss in front of his employees, D-16 declared himself Megatronus, whom he considered the greatest of the [[Thirteen]]. After hearing his preaching on the [[Communication Grid]] against the [[Guilds of Cybertron]], the concerned [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Sentinel Prime]] sent [[Bumper (WFC)|Bumper]] and [[Fastback (WFC)|Fastback]] to investigate. Megatronus killed them, believing two lives were worthless compared to the millions doomed by the castes Sentinel created.

After a victorious battle with the [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticon]]s, in which the crowd redubbed him Megatron, the gladiator was contacted by the [[Iacon (polity)|Iaconian]] [[Hall of Records|records monitor]] [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Orion Pax]], and they began exchanging their ideas in intense but friendly philosophical discussions. Megatron encouraged Orion to learn self defense and invited him to visit Kaon, which he did to a warm welcome from Megatron (and from none of his gladiators). By this point Megatron was planning to call his movement the Decepticons, and he had begun sending his followers on a search for artifacts of the Primes, as their discovery would be signs their cause was just. His followers began bombing Cybertron, and Megatron distanced himself from their extremism to gain credibility. Orion and his mentor [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] believed him, but the latter was well aware Megatron might have gained a taste for violence after the attention it earned him. Soon enough, Megatron accepted the gift of a kidnapped Sentinel Prime from [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]].

Alpha Trion organized a hearing for Orion and Megatron with the [[Autobot High Council|High Council]]. They protested involvement in Sentinel's disappearance. When confronted with the phrase "Decepticon", Megatron denied any knowledge of it but accepted his followers' term wholeheartedly, stating deception was necessary sometimes for the corrupt to see the truth. When [[Halogen (WFC)|Halogen]] revealed Megatron's followers had been trying to locate the [[Matrix of Leadership]], he declared that Orion should become the Prime that he desperately wanted to lead Cybertron into the new [[Golden Age]], and find it. Incensed, Megatron killed Halogen, and when Optimus prevented the [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guard]] from attacking Megatron, the ungrateful gladiator declared Optimus had fallen into the trap of power the High Council had given him. He declared Optimus was no longer his brother (though he would continue to refer to him as such privately), and that the Matrix would be his.

In the subsequent war with Optimus' [[Autobot]]s, the Decepticons took control of eighty-five percent of the planet. Wherever Starscream's [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] aided, they were victorious. Megatron was initially merciful to neutrals, but he let Shockwave take control of [[Tarn]] and torture Autobot sympathizers there. When the [[Praxus|Praxians]], a progressive city-state who were disappointed with the direction Megatron took, allied with the Autobots, Megatron decided he would no longer try to convert followers and launched the first genocide of the war, slaughtering all in [[Nova Cronum]] who would not submit to the Decepticons as they attacked.

As the war dragged into a siege of Iacon, Soundwave's spying bore fruit as he discovered [[Dark Energon]], the essence of [[Unicron]], was aboard [[Trypticon (WFC)|Trypticon]]. Megatron forgave Starscream for hiding its existence from him, acknowledging its potentially dangerous nature. To ensure loyalty, Megatron's gladiators stormed the Station slaughtering and maiming Starscream's scientists. He forced Starscream to pick two test subjects to be Darkened, and following an astonishingly successful result, Megatron absorbed some, invigorating him. Soon Darkened Decepticons appeared on the battlefield, but it proved to be an inefficient resource and they would have to flee if a battle was prolonged. Megatron needed more, and even Starscream's activation of the [[Geosynchronous Energon Bridge]] didn't provide enough. Megatron felt he would kill all the Decepticons before he was deprived of Dark Energon and turn rabid.

Fortunately, Soundwave revealed the existence of the [[Plasma energy|Plasma Energy Chamber]] within [[Teletraan-1]], which required the [[Code Key]]s of Power and Justice to activate it. Starscream recovered the Key of Power, while Megatron and his best soldiers searched for the Key of Justice below the [[High Council Tower]]. Sentinel Prime emerged, to Megatron's surprise. Sentinel confronted him about Bumper and Fastback, and the two dueled. Megatron disarmed and sliced open Sentinel, revealing the Key of Justice within. Starscream made a grab for it, exposing that he had released Sentinel to kill Megatron and take leadership for himself. After fighting Starscream to a standstill, Megatron pardoned him as he found him a better soldier than would-be example, and used the Keys to open Teletraan-1: which activated [[Omega Supreme (WFC)|Omega Supreme]] to fly the Chamber to safety.

The Seekers shot Omega Supreme out of the air, causing him to crash. Optimus's Autobots arrived to fight the Decepticons, but the more they killed them the more Dark Energon left their bodies and empowered Megatron. He was able to knee Omega Supreme and turn him on his back, tearing the Chamber out of his chest. Using the Chamber, Megatron poisoned the [[core]] of Cybertron and Darkened the entire planet. But then the core stopped producing Dark Energon, and Megatron learnt Optimus had gone to the core and received the Matrix. As the Autobots attempted to flee Cybertron via the last [[space bridge]], Megatron used Trypticon to fire on their ships, and used his and Orion's old frequency to criticize Optimus for fleeing. He added he never believed in individual freedom for every Cybertronian, only the illusion of freedom that he as leader would provide and that the Guilds did not. Optimus responded that Megatron had turned his soldiers into addicts and they would turn on him, and used the ''[[Eight Track (WFC)|Eight Track]]'' to board, sabotage and crash Trypticon.

As the Autobots left on the completed ''[[Ark (WFC)|Ark]]'', the Decepticons fully invaded Iacon. Megatron ordered Trypticon to transform into the ''Nemesis'', boarding it with Starscream, Soundwave, [[Lugnut (WFC)|Lugnut]] and other elite soldiers, leaving Shockwave in charge. He used his old frequency once again to warn Optimus that he would hound him through the stars and finally kill him for the Matrix. He explained they were still brothers, as they were bonded for life despite their enmity. Optimus was just glad his hunt would get him off Cybertron. In the waning years of the [[Golden Age]] of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatronus (who named himself after [[The Fallen|one of the original thirteen Primes]]) was a gladiator who noticed there was a disparity in freedom among the classes of his race, and that the ruling class was corrupt and all-powerful. In drawing attention to this inequity, he inspired a [[Hall of Records]] clerk named [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Orion Pax]], and the two joined forces to end corruption and bring equality to the masses. Soundwave also helped them. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 3}} Orion and Megatronus became close allies, almost like brothers. But soon Megatronus's ideals would become corrupted, and the two would become bitter enemies. {{storylink|Masters & Students}}

Megatronus shortened his name to Megatron before he and Orion Pax appeared before the [[High Council]]. Shocking his colleague with his true intentions, Megatron stated that he would overthrow the High Council by force and instate himself as the next [[Prime (rank)|Prime]]. But it was Orion's speech that drew their attention. Jealous, Megatron is upset then left and began his conquest, which resulted in countless casualties and left the [[Core]] of Cybertron itself [[Dark Energon|poisoned]]. Denied the [[Matrix of Leadership]] by the High Council, Megatron was obsessed with finding it, but Orion Pax was given it by the Core itself, and Orion became Optimus Prime. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 3}}

Over the following years, Megatron and Optimus fought many a battle, such as the [[Battle of Technar]] where Megatron ordered [[Skyquake (Prime)|Skyquake]] to assassinate Optimus Prime. {{storylink|Masters & Students}} After his failure, Megatron came to believe only he should finally terminate Prime. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 4}}

The Transformers' war eventually brought Megatron and Prime's teams to Earth, where, after an initial clash, Megatron withdrew to space to search for more troops, leaving Starscream in charge. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 1}} Searching the void for three years, Megatron found something better than mere warriors: he discovered a new source of Dark Energon, the "blood of [[Unicron]]", with which he could reanimate fallen Transformers as an army of the undead. Returning to Earth and resuming command of the Decepticons, Megatron tested the Dark Energon on the deceased Autobot [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]], reviving him as a [[zombie]] "[[Terrorcon (Prime)|Terrorcon]]" that slaughtered several [[Decepticon Miner]]s, but which posed no threat to Megatron himself. Unfortunately for Megatron, this partial reactivation of Cliffjumper's lifesigns drew Optimus Prime's Autobots to the Decepticons' mining operations. Deciding it was not yet time for a confrontation with Prime, Megatron withdrew aboard the [[Nemesis (Prime)|''Nemesis'']], and continued to brood over the Dark Energon.

Megatron's inability to control the zombie Cliffjumper convinced him that he needed to integrate the Dark Energon into his own body in order to control the undead legions he planned to create. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 2}} Thrusting a shard of the material into his spark, he was filled with its power, feeling as thought he was connected to Unicron's very thoughts. Requiring a test run for his new power, Megatron headed for the site of an ancient Cybertronian battle on Earth, full of the remains of fallen warriors, where he was confronted by Optimus and [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]]. Using Dark Energon to raise the dead Transformers as Terrorcons, Megatron successfully found he had complete control of the undead horde, and send them against the two Autobots. [[Image:DarknessRising4-Megatron.jpg|right|thumb|250px|I chew scenery while the zombies chew ''you''.]] {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 3}} Optimus and Ratchet fought their way through the Terrorcons, only for Megatron to fly off before they could reach him, satisfied with his test results and ready put his plan into action—to open a [[space bridge]] to Cybertron and use Dark Energon to revive the entire planet's dead. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 4}} Despite the Autobots' best efforts to damage the ''Nemesis'' and prevent the bridge from opening, Megatron succeeded in his plans, and then had his showdown with Optimus Prime atop the bridge itself as he waited for the Terrorcon legions to pass through to Earth. The Autobots were not so lucky, however: the Dark Energon in his spark allowed Megatron to survive the explosion, but just barely. When Starscream found his leader floating in space, he tore the Dark Energon from his body in the hope that he would expire, but was caught in the act by [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]]'s [[Deployer (Prime)|Deployer]], [[Laserbeak (Prime)|Laserbeak]] and forced to take Megatron back to the ''Nemesis'', where he was placed in [[Stasis lock|stasis]] in the sick bay. {{storylink|Masters & Students}} Starscream was content to leave Megatron in this state to recover or expire as fate saw fit, but the crew of the ''Nemesis'' disagreed, and voted to bring in the Decepticon medic [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] to help heal their wounded leader. {{storylink|Deus ex Machina}} Even with Knock Out's expertise, it seemed unlikely that Megatron would recover, but his assistant [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]] gave his body a good buffing nonetheless; Starscream approved, as it meant their ex-leader would look his best for the memorial service. {{storylink|Speed Metal}}

When Optimus Prime was infected by cybonic plague, Arcee and [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] board the ''Nemesis'' to search for an antidote. While they failed to find one in the database, the two Autobots did discover Megatron in stasis, and Bumblebee mind-linked with the Decepticon leader via [[cortical psychic patch]] to try and pluck the cure from his sleeping brain. Bumblebee found himself within Megatron's mind, which took the form of [[Kaon]], where the Decepticon's subconscious was spending its time killing endless visions of Optimus Primes; unfortunately, Bumblebee's intrusion only caused Megatron to become aware of his situation, when he found he was unable to kill Bumblebee. Learning what had befallen Optimus, Megatron initially refused to give up the cure until Bumblebee convinced him that he would gain greater satisfaction from finishing his enemy off with his own two hands. Megatron offered the cure in exchange for Bumblebee's help in escaping his mental prison, but Bumblebee double-crossed him, withdrawing from his mind as soon as the cure was in Autobot hands. AAALLLLLIIIIIIIIVE!]] Recalling the sliver of Dark Energon Starscream had removed from his body, Megatron took full control of Bumblebee's body a short time later and used the GroundBridge to return to the ancient battlefield where he had raised his original Terrorcons, recovering the Dark Energon shard he had used to do so. He returned to the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]], where he dealt with Ratchet and [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] before again GroundBridging to the ''Nemesis'' and using the Dark Energon to restore his body and return his mind to it. Storming out of the ''Nemesis'' to find Starscream, Megatron snatched his subordinate out of the air in the middle of a battle with Optimus Prime and took him back for his punishment. {{storylink|Out of His Head}}

When Breakdown was captured by the humans of [[MECH]], Megatron refuted Starscream's suggestion that they rescue him, announcing that if Breakdown had allowed himself to be captured by those weaker than him, then he deserved whatever he got. {{storylink|Operation: Breakdown}} Breakdown did manage to escape, however, insisted his wounded pride saw him volunteer to recover a [[polarity gauntlet]] for Megatron, in order to prove his worth. Megatron was disappointed when his minion returned without the gauntlet, but was placated with the revelation that he had instead brought back [[Airachnid]]. {{storylink|Metal Attraction}}

Discovering that Starscream was still attempting to mine energon for his personal use without his knowledge, Megatron determined that the amusement had come to an end. Taking him to the mine in question, Megatron revealed that he had been aware of Starscream's previous transgressions the whole time thanks to Soundwave, and was about to execute his grovelling lieutenant when [[Jack Darby]] and [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] walked in. In the firefight that followed, stray shots from Megatron's fusion cannon brought the mine down on top of them all, with Megatron being completely pinned by rubble. Jack happened upon the Decepticon leader with a mining drill, and Megatron, knowing that the human would not help him, instead urged Jack to finish him off. Jack refused, saying that wasn't what Optimus would do, and left, but the opening he had created allowed Megatron to begin his escape. After finally extricating himself, Megatron came upon Starscream trying to keep a large rock from crushing him. Starscream insisted that he had come to rescue Megatron, and begged the Decepticon leader to spare him, and Megatron acquiesced with a smirk. {{storylink|Rock Bottom}}

Though Megatron allowed Starscream to live and continue as his second-in-command, he was furious to learn from Airachnid that Starscream had kept the location of the ''[[Harbinger]]'' from him. He ordered Starscream to lead Airachnid to the crash site and retrieve an [[Immobilizer|experimental weapon]] that was inside. Much to Megatron's fury, Airachnid returned not only without the weapon, but with the news that Starscream had been captured by the Autobots as well. {{storylink|Partners}}

When a formula for [[Synthetic Energon]] was transferred from a [[Cybertronian data cylinder]] into the mind of the Autobot [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], Optimus Prime petitioned Megatron for the return of the cylinder so they could extract the formula, after which they would willingly hand it over. Megatron briefly considered the proposal, but instead sent Knock Out and Breakdown to capture Bulkhead and dared Prime to fight for the cylinder. When his Vehicon troops were defeated, Megatron simply crushed the device and took flight. {{storylink|T.M.I.}} The synthetic energon formula helped the Autobots counter Megatron's next tactic: causing the Autobots to burn through their energon supplies at an accelerated rate by leading them on wild goose chases. Juiced up on the "SynthEn", Ratchet attacked Megatron and Knock Out while they were surveying an energon mine, and sent the Decepticon leader flying with one punch. Unfortunately for Ratchet, Megatron swiftly recovered and subdued the Autobot medic with ease. {{storylink|Stronger, Faster}}

Convinced by Dark Energon-induced visions that an impending prophecy detailed his own destiny, Megatron stepped up the Decepticons' work in constructing a new space bridge so they could obtain more Dark Energon. When they located the last component they needed, Megatron went in personally, grievously wounding Raf with a blast of Dark Energon on the way and creating an unintended distraction that allowed him to make off with the power source he needed. Soon after, Megatron lured Optimus Prime to a volcano he had seen in his visions, and during their battle, it erupted with Dark Energon, imbuing Megatron with the power he needed to fell Prime. {{storylink|One Shall Fall}}[[Image:OneShallFall-visionfulfilled.jpg|thumb|255px|right|Look, Prime! Aren't they splendid?!]] The intervention of the other Autobots saved Prime's life, but this was of little concern to Megatron, who now had all the Dark Energon he needed and set his miners to work gathering it up. When Soundwave detected a spark-beat coming from within the Earth, Megatron felt it pounding through his brain and realized what his visions had meant: the lifeforce of Unicron himself dwelt within Earth. Leaving Airachnid in command, Megatron flew into the volcano to address Unicron, but received not the power he hoped the chaos-bringer would bestow on him, but instead Unicron's displeasure at the fact that Optimus Prime still lived. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 1}}

Spurned, Megatron instead went to the aid of Optimus and his Autobots, who were under attack from Unicron's stone avatars. He offered Optimus his services—he intended to lead them to Unicron's real form so that Optimus could use the [[Matrix of Leadership]] on the Chaos God. While the Autobots returned to base, Megatron kept the giant stone Unicrons busy, and Prime eventually accepted Megatron's offer. On arrival in the Autobot base, Megatron encountered a couple of humans he recognized, Raf and Jack, as well as a [[Miko Nakadai|new loud one]]. Megatron was first to step through the GroundBridge into the Earth's core, and as the Autobots followed, he warned them that Unicron already knew they were there. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 2}}

Despite the persistent influence of Unicron, Megatron led the Autobots through Unicron's insides, even helping them fight off [[Unicron's antibodies|antibodies]]. The Dark Energon he was imbued with allowed him to enter Unicron's spark chamber with Optimus, though at that point Unicron's influence became so great that the Chaos God was able to commandeer his body. After Optimus unleashed the power of the Matrix, apparently extinguishing Unicron's spark, Megatron went to kill Optimus, only to discover his foe had lost his memory and now believed himself to be Orion Pax. Megatron convinced Optimus that the other Autobots were enemies, and the pair returned to the ''Nemesis'', where Megatron introduced "Orion Pax" to his men. {{storylink|One Shall Rise, Part 3}}

During the early war on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Megatron found reference to an energy source called [[Dark Energon]], which had impressive potential as a weapon, and became determined to claim it for himself. One of the few places it was made was in a station in orbit around Cybertron, guarded by a politically neutral force led by [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]]. With this knowledge, he took a ship and launched an assault on the station.

The ship was badly damaged in the attack, and so he ordered [[Barricade (Prime)|Barricade]] and [[Brawl (WFC)| Brawl]], piloting it, to ram the station. He and many of his soldiers survived the impact and escaped the core's detonation. They were then confronted by Starscream, who informed them that they would not allow them to take what he had guarded for ten thousand years. After surviving a trap of sentry guns, Megatron, Barricade, and Brawl were reinforced by more of Megatron's troops, and set out on their way to find the station's Dark Energon stores and claim them for the war effort. They encountered significant resistance, but managed to shoot their way through, with directional aid from [[Soundwave (Prime)| Soundwave]]. Barricade noted that the station itself seemed quite primitive; Megatron noted it was very old, and that he intended to modernize it... At one point, the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]] [[Jetfire (WFC)|Jetfire]] confronted Megatron nonviolently, asking him to give up his quest, as Dark Energon would result in only horror, death, and destruction, to which Megatron sneered, "You say that as if it were a bad thing."

Along their way to the Dark Energon, they found that a large portion of the station had been blasted clean off, the debris field traversable but sparse enough to allow easy viewing of Cybertron itself. Soundwave soon found records indicating that a small amount of Dark Energon lost containment and was the sole cause of the destruction, underscoring Megatron's desire for it. When Barricade asked how he expected to control it when no other had, Megatron said that such power was only for the strong, that he was the strongest, and not to question him again.

When they finally reached the storage chamber, and Megatron averted Starscream's destruction of it, he calmly entered into a container full of raw Dark Energon, while Starscream watched and gloated at his imminent destruction...only for him to walk out, not only unscathed, but crackling with power, which he further bestowed upon Barricade and Brawl. A single blast of Dark Energon was enough to destroy an entire company of station security forces, the last line of defense between Megatron and Starscream and his companions.

Jetfire again tried to warn Megatron about the dangers of Dark Energon, but Starscream interrupted, asking to join the Decepticon leader. Megatron asked what Starscream could offer that he could not simply take. Starscream revealed the station's supply of Dark Energon was almost spent, and he knew how to manufacture more—and as luck would have it, there was a dormant [[Geosynchronous Energon Bridge]] which could be used to power it. Jetfire retreated to inform [[Sentinel Zeta Prime| Zeta Prime]]; Megatron let him go, seeming pleased by the notion of letting the Autobots tremble in advance of their actions, and sent Starscream, [[Thundercracker (WFC)| Thundercracker]], and [[Skywarp (WFC)| Skywarp]] to activate the bridge.

Megatron repeatedly mocked what he perceived as Starscream's slowness in his simple mission, but the Seeker did what he said he could. With a steady supply of Dark Energon, Megatron launched an attack on Iacon City, intending to take a device called the [[Omega Key]] and use it to enter the Core of Cybertron. This time, he took [[Breakdown (Prime)| Breakdown]] and Soundwave with him. The trio took the less-guarded way in—which, since the Autobots were not complete fools (as even Megatron would admit), still had significant military presence. During the attack, Starscream noted that Dark Energon was proving every bit as potent as Megatron had promised. Breakdown let Megatron know of his misgivings about the Sky Commander; Megatron admitted he was treacherous and untrustworthy, but he had useful talents, and his cunning and ambition was intriguing.

The Omega Key had been taken from its normal resting place, however, by Autobot leader Zeta Prime, and so Megatron took his squad on an assault on Zeta's headquarters. They met Brawl, leading an attack on the doors to Zeta Prime's armory, along the way. Even Megatron's touch of Dark Energon could not breach the vault doors, however, and so he called in [[Dark Energon Bombers]]. When they were shot down, Brawl suggested they take out the Autobots' air defense guns, after which bombers were called in again; Megatron's troops then held off a massive assault from what seemed like the entire Autobot army while waiting for the bombing run to finally arrive.

After the vault doors were breached, they reached Zeta Prime himself, who had constructed several layers of security while he waited. An invincible energy field protected him, while he could drop portions of the ceiling with pistons to crush anything beneath them, and construct endless holographic clones of himself outfitted for melee combat, which Megatron personally found nauseating. However, his defenses were not without flaw: periodically, the power core would need to disperse waste heat, and Megatron's team survived long enough to destroy it during this stage. Zeta fell, buried under the wreckage of his own defenses, and Megatron took the device he'd carried...which started to make electronic chirping noises. Zeta, with black humor, noted that the device was not the Omega Key. It merely ''activated'' the Key, which would come to them...

Searching for the Key in the skies aboard another ship, Megatron, with Soundwave and Breakdown at the controls, were abruptly confronted by a massive ship, [[Omega Supreme (WFC)|Omega Supreme]], who knocked them out of the sky, causing them to crash back in Iacon. There, they played a cat-and-mouse campaign in a desperate attempt to survive the enormous Autobot's vast firepower, though Soundwave noted that the weaponry they bore had little chance of penetrating Omega Supreme's armor. Megatron, for his part, at least contrived to appear unafraid, claiming that if it came to a real fight, the brute wouldn't stand a chance against Megatron's intellect. However, Omega's attacks drove them underground and left them unable to immediately transmit counter to Starscream, who declared Megatron dead and announced he was taking control. Even when they re-established contact, Starscream's aerial forces only briefly distracted Omega, who dispensed large numbers of troops, sucked up Decepticons with a tractor beam, fired weapons of mass destruction, and mined the roads Megatron and his squad were using.

Soundwave, however, had come up with a suggestion—there were weapons emplacements higher up that had the ability to damage Omega Supreme. Taking them from the Autobots was a battle in and of itself, but nothing compared to the fight against Omega Supreme, who could unload entire squadrons of Aerialbots. Nonetheless, Megatron's boldness and tactical acumen finally shot Omega Supreme out of the sky.

Gloating, Megatron found that the behemoth was still not defeated, and indeed was drawing power from Cybertron itself to repair his systems, making him stronger, if anything. However, by corrupting the energon batteries with which he was using to feed himself with Dark Energon charges, they were able to weaken him to the point where they could finally blast away his last defenses and brought him to heel. With Omega Supreme defeated, Megatron went underground, directly to the Core, and corrupted it with a massive infusion of Dark Energon, finally bringing Cybertron itself more completely under his control.

At this point, Megatron was clearly convinced, and for good reason, that he'd won, making propaganda broadcasts extolling his greatness and how he had taken away the Autobots' burdens of "liberty" and "choice". When Starscream was defeated and the Decagon retaken, however, he realized the Autobots were not yet going to roll over for him, and sent a distress signal from Zeta Prime, whom he had kept alive in the Kaon prison camp, in order to provoke a rescue attempt from the Autobots. His old acquaintance Optimus took the bait, and Megatron confronted him, telling him that the war could be over tomorrow if Optimus took the Autobots and left. Optimus refused, so Megatron consigned him and his team to the prisons. When they managed to stage a mass breakout, an enraged Megatron ordered his troops to prevent their escape at any cost, to the point of tearing apart portions of Kaon.

This was not enough, however, and they escaped, journeying to the Core, where they kickstarted the cleansing of Megatron's corruption. Doing so, however, would take the Core millions of years of shutdown, rendering Cybertron uninhabitable. Whether Megatron knew this or not, when he saw the Autobots leaving after Optimus's refusal of his earlier offer, he apparently took offense. His earlier plans of renovating Starscream's station had come to fruition; now, it mounted a powerful superweapon, capable of destroying entire structures in one shot. He had it fire upon the Autobot transports as they left. When a team of Aerialbots attempted to disable or destroy it, he called Jetfire, now one of them, and taunted him about his past. He further mocked them when they destroyed the plasma coolant system without apparently having accounted for backups. Finally, during the attack he came into possession of information on Optimus Prime's location, and ordered Trypticon—the name of the weapon, for it was actually a Cybertronian—to fire upon it.

Megatron was the Decepticon Leader during the final days of the Great War. After capturing an Autobot facility, and killing a cadet, Megatron revealed his plan to his troops. Megatron intended to conquer Trypticon Space Station, which had the means and power to manufacture Dark Energon: a variant of Energon which greatly increased the stamina and strength of its host. Megatron fought his way through the station to its commander, the Autobot Starscream. Upon Starscream's defeat, Starscream offered his services and the Dark Energon if he was spared. Megatron agreed, and Starscream joined the Decepticons.

After a test run of the Dark Energon in Kaon Prison, Soundwave deduced the element would only kill the host, but Starscream was able to find a way to fix it. Megatron then decided the time was right, and led his army to the inner levels of Cybertron. He was able to activate the uplink to channel energy from the Core of Cybertron itself to Trypticon Station, but he needed the Omega Key to access it once it was shut down with a firewall.

Megatron learned through a recording from Laserbeak that Autobot Leader Zeta Prime had the Omega Key in his possession and had holed up deep within Iacon. Megatron led a full-scale assault on the city, totally devastating Iacon, until he found Zeta Prime at last. After a hard battle, Zeta fell, and Megatron obtained the Omega Key. However, immediately upon taking it, alarms went off, and Iacon itself was shaking. Zeta Prime, despite being mortally wounded, laughed at Megatron's face, saying the Omega Key was only the key to the ''true'' key: the city-sized Autobot Omega Supreme.

Omega immediately attacked the victorious Decepticons, and quickly decimated their presence in Iacon, save for Megatron's team and a few others. By this point, Megatron was absolutely furious at Starscream: Megatron declared it was he who led them to Omega Supreme and the devastating onslaught he carried out. Starscream bitterly retorted even if Megatron killed him, Omega Supreme would still be out for his blood, helping nothing whatsoever. Megatron angrily let it go for the time being, and led his army to battle. His troops' confidence beginning to falter, Megatron declared they would either be kicking themselves for not acting for the rest of their lives, or heroes in a historic event. His men followed him to battle Omega, and the titan fell. Megatron was free to corrupt the Core of Cybertron with Dark Energon, and obtain near-supremacy of Cybertron.

That kind of went downhill when the new Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, extinguished the Dark Energon and destroyed Trypticon Space Station, didn't it?

Early in the war, when the Autobots learned of the existence of the orbiting superweapon [[Trypticon (WFC)|Trypticon]], Megatron sent waves of Decepticon forces to keep them from discovering more about it. Megatron, happy to see the destruction Trypticon was creating, ordered Starscream and Skywarp at gunpoint to return to Trypticon and clean up after it, while he took his troops into battle to scour the area for Autobots to kill. Few Autobots other than the medic, [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]], were spared Megatron's initial assault.

When Megatron found out that Starscream had left his post at Trypticon, Megatron grew angry. But the Autobots had infiltrated the [[Datacore]], so Megatron focused his efforts there instead. Bumblebee was captured, and information useful for the taking of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] was pulled from his mind. Megatron assigned Skywarp the task of the initial Iacon assault. The traitorous Starscream returned to Megatron's focus, and the Air Commander was ordered to infiltrate the Core of Cybertron to reactivate the [[Geosynchronous Energon Bridge]]. But Starscream took too long, discovering Megatron had already reached the Core by the time he arrived. In a foul mood, Megatron would test Starscream's loyalty by putting him on the Iacon assault's front lines.

The assault went as planned, and Iacon crumbled. As Barricade and Starscream reached an empty Council Chamber, Megatro alerted them to the evacuation of the surviving Autobots. Three Autobot ships positioned themselves to escape, and so Megatron ordered Thundercracker and Skywarp to take them down.

Though Iacon fell, the Trypticon orbiting superweapon was destroyed by the Autobots... but not before Megatron ripped the datacore from its brain so as to salvage its information on Dark Energon. Fowler makes known his uneasiness about teaming up with Megatron, but Ratchet surprises the humans by explaining how such a situation has happened before. Ratchet relates how Optimus Prime and Megatron were once close friends, in the twilight hours of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s [[Golden Age]].

''The great Autobot leader was once named Orion Pax, a simple clerk in the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] Hall of Records. Learning of Cybertron's past, Orion grew concerned about the corruption affecting high places and the [[Caste system|state of inequity]] in society. He became inspired by the revolutionary words of Megatronus, a gladiator who took his name from [[The Fallen|one]] of the [[Thirteen|thirteen original Primes]]. Megatronus gained a loyal following through his radical and innovative actions, [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] chief among their number. Over time, Megatronus became a mentor figure to Orion Pax and chose to shorten his name as he left the gladiatorial arena for the political one. Megatron appeared before the [[Autobot High Council|High Council]], voicing his ideas for shaping a new Cybertron by violent means, and demanded to be named the next [[Prime (rank)|Prime]]. Orion protested against Megatron's suggestions before the Council, moving their [[spark]]s and minds as he unknowingly revealed himself to be the one worthy of the title. Hoping to reverse the damage that had poisoned the planet, Orion journeyed to Cybertron's [[Core]], where he found himself before the spark of [[Primus]], the creator of all [[Cybertronians]]. Primus sensed the purity of Orion's own spark and bestowed upon him the legendary Matrix, transforming him into Optimus Prime.''

In the present, [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] and [[Jack Darby|Jack]] question Optimus's plan to give the Matrix to the Earth's core, asking what could possibly stop Megatron from attempting to claim it for himself now. Ratchet darkly replies that Megatron only intends to save the Earth so that he may conquer it at a later date.

As they near Unicron's spark, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] begins to feel the draining effects of the [[Dark Energon]]. [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] and Arcee help him a short way across the catwalks, but Megatron soon comes to a halt ahead with the realization that Unicron is preparing to expel them. A huge number of Unicron's drones suddenly swarm into view, surrounding Megatron and the Autobots. They engage the drones in fierce battle, blasting and slashing through their attackers. Arcee is knocked to a lower level, not long before the Dark Energon clouds Bulkhead's vision. He stumbles from the catwalk but manages to grab hold of the edge, and is seized by Bumblebee before he can tumble to his death. Optimus and Megatron fight back-to-back, managing to hold their own against the drones in a spectacular display of effective—if uneasy—teamwork. Bumblebee struggles to hold onto Bulkhead, who insists that the scout lets him go. Optimus seizes Bulkhead just as Bumblebee loses his grip, and hauls him up to safety. As the group quickly becomes overwhelmed, Arcee hitches a ride on one of the drones to catch up with the others and beat a swift retreat with them.

Aboard the [[Nemesis (Prime)|Nemesis]], [[Airachnid]] outlines the questionable nature of their leader's recent behavior. [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] asks whether she is suggesting that they abandon Lord Megatron. Airachnid explains how Megatron's undetectable signal implies that he is either offline or at the mercy of Unicron—neither scenario being in the best interests of the Decepticons. She suggests an exodus from Earth, and receives no protests from the surrounding [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]]. However, her order to retreat to [[Regulon Four]] is denied by Soundwave, who silently challenges her authority. When he refuses her demand to step aside, she leaps to attack him. Soundwave easily blocks every one of her blows, before lifting her clean into the air. He hurls her back, deploying [[Laserbeak (Prime)|Laserbeak]] to stun Airachnid in a sudden sneak attack. Pinned under Soundwave's foot, much to Knock Out's amusement, Airachnid relinquishes command to the intelligence officer.

Back in the Autobot base, Ratchet notes he has lost the others' communication links and life signals, most likely caused by interference from the electromagnetic anomalies. Miko asks how they are supposed to know when the others are ready for pickup if contact is impossible, but Ratchet is prevented from responding by the sound of Jack tapping the [[GroundBridge]] key against a railing. Ratchet reveals that the object is actually the [[Key to Vector Sigma]]—one of Cybertron's most precious relics. Ratchet then realizes that Optimus entrusted the key to Jack because he did not plan on returning from the planet's core.

Megatron is gripped by yet another painful vision of Unicron whilst he and the Autobots are backed into an enclosed chamber by the attacking drones. Unicron orders him to destroy Optimus. Instead, Megatron saves the Autobot leader by blasting an oncoming drone. He then indicates a closed doorway nearby, stating that Unicron's spark lies just beyond. He explains that, to pass through, they must fool Unicron into believing that they pose no danger, and moves his Dark Energon-infused chest up to the door. It opens in response, and Optimus orders the others to remain outside and provide cover fire while he and Megatron advance.

The passageway beyond leads directly into Unicron's spark chamber, where Optimus prepares to expose the Matrix within his chest. Unicron's spark reacts, striking both invaders with its energy. Unicron again orders Megatron to kill Optimus, forcing him to unsheathe his blade and approach the weakened Prime. Megatron struggles against him, declaring himself to be under the command of no-one. His resistance provokes only an onslaught of pain and a furious reaction from the Chaos Bringer.

The volcano outside erupts violently, and the ground enclosing the Autobot base begins to quake. Ratchet tells the humans to take cover, and he moves to shield them from falling debris.

Unicron's spark adopts the appearance of a face as Megatron is seemingly freed from his control. Optimus calls upon the power of the Matrix of Leadership, but hesitates as Unicron possesses Megatron's body in a veil of purple flame and declares his own invincibility. Optimus cuts short Unicron's desire to pull the Earth into chaos, and he rises to his feet as he becomes surrounded by a brilliant blue light. Optimus fires the power of the Matrix from his chest directly into Unicron's spark, the resulting wave of energy knocking Megatron back off his feet. His energy drained, Optimus falls to his knees, and Unicron's spark emits a final wail of pain before vanishing into oblivion.

The drones outside suddenly fall from the air, lifeless. The volcano, along with all of the Earth's other natural phenomena, subside back to normality. Ratchet and the humans watch as the monitors flicker online, rejoicing as their team's life signals are all safely re-established. Aboard the Nemesis, however, Soundwave also detects the signature of the Decepticon leader.

Megatron rights himself in Unicron's now-empty spark chamber, inspecting Optimus's steaming body for a moment before unsheathing his blade. Optimus gazes blearily up at the approaching Decepticon, then addresses him as "Megatronus" and asks where they are. Surprised, Megatron retracts his weapon and helps the Autobot to his feet. Bumblebee, Bulkhead and Arcee soon burst through the wall to assist, but Optimus does not recognise them. A GroundBridge suddenly opens nearby; Megatron claims that the Autobots are their sworn enemies and provides cover fire as Optimus heads for the vortex. Optimus blankly meets Bumblebee's devastated gaze for a split second before disappearing through the Bridge. Megatron follows, leaving the shocked Autobots alone in the empty chamber.

Ratchet GroundBridges the team back to base, but is anxious to see that Optimus is not with them. They explain that Optimus is still alive, but did not even know his own name. Ratchet realizes that surrendering the Matrix of Leadership caused their leader to lose not only the wisdom of the Primes, but his own memories as well.

Knock Out and the other Decepticons, minus Airachnid, welcome Megatron back aboard the Nemesis. Megatron steps aside to allow Optimus through, and [[Breakdown (Prime)|Breakdown]] automatically moves to attack. Megatron halts him, insisting that this is no way to treat a "long-lost comrade", and declares that Orion Pax is one of them.

*All of the natural disasters around the world abruptly stop when Unicron is beaten. While it might make sense for the earthquakes to stop, tidal waves wouldn't just suddenly fall apart. Forward momentum doesn't just vanish. Similar problems occur with the tornadoes dissipating and the sky clearing.
*At the Earth's core, the Autobots should experience very little gravity, as the total mass of Earth would be reasonably equally distributed around them and therefore the pull of gravity would be cancelled out.

In a lower layer of [[Gigantion]], [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]] helps the battered [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] walk after his thrashing at the hands of [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]]. The [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] offer words of encouragement, but Megatron isn't listening, as he growls that he needs more power.

Up on the surface of the planet, [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] recalls the [[Autobot]]s' brief but tumultuous time on Gigantion, before asking Metroplex to guide them to the central layer. The planet leader unfortunately tells Prime that they cannot: It's not that they don't ''want'' to, but their customs dictate that data on old cities be erased, so the lower levels are as much a mystery to them as they are to the newcomers. Undeterred by this turn of events, the Autobots determine to search the old cities for any remaining data. Given the size of the planet, narrowing down their search radius is a necessity, and to that end, they start unloading equipment from the ''[[Ogygia]]'' which will help [[Vector Prime]] get a general fix on the location of the [[Cyber Planet Key]] via the [[Omega Lock]].

Back underground, Megatron is fuming, literally. Ransack and Crumplezone get a little too close and get knocked backwards by the sheer force of Megatron's "aura of fury". Scourge assures everyone that it's not ''them'' he's angry at... and then Megatron's fury boils over, creating an energy blast that scatters the Decepticons and punches a hole to the surface. Megatron rises high into the air, and the Decepticons pull themselves from the rubble. Soundwave announces he's "droppin' outta this session" and flies off.
Megatron rumbles that he needs more power, and the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key as does the Omega Lock, which starts emitting the [[Omega Frequency]]. Megatron's spirit resonates with the Key, and he becomes intangible, plunging downward, through layer after layer of the planet, all the way to the lowest level and the resting place of the Key. When he reaches out to take it, the Key resists him, but Megatron persists and begins to draw energy from it. In a mighty blast of energy, Megatron shoots back through to the surface, tearing a huge hole in the planet. As the Decepticons look up at their leader, Megatron stands shrouded in a black miasma, and Thunderblast swoons at the sight.

Back at the ''Ogygia'', the Omega Lock's reaction has allowed Vector Prime to pinpoint the general location of the Key, but he warns that someone else has obviously located it first, and drawn energy from it. The Autobots split into groups to search (the fliers turning it into a little race), but by dividing themselves, the Autobots inadvertently make themselves the perfect target for the darkness-enshrouded Megatron. [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Leobreaker]], [[Snarl (Cybertron)|Snarl]] and [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]] are the first to fall to the superpowered Decepticon leader, who takes them out so fast that their battle does not even damage the surrounding area. The three Autobots' unconscious bodies found by Optimus's team when Vector Prime realizes they have not reported in, but even as they are tending to them, elsewhere on the planet, [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] finds herself being pursued by Megatron. She is knocked into the air, but [[Quickmix (Cybertron)|Quickmix]] catches her and fires at Megatron before engaging him hand-to-hand...only to be quickly knocked out and smashed into the ground (literally). Optimus's team soon finds them, too, and Override warns Optimus about the upgraded Megatron, prompting the Autobot leader to recall all his troops.

Jetfire's team receives the recall order just as [[Coby Hansen|Coby]] is crawling through an old computer, and he instructs the human to get out immediately. Coby, however, spots a data chip in the distance, and asks for five minutes to check it out. While he successfully recovers the chip, those five minutes prove to be a fatal delay: having bested the [[Cybertron Defense Team]], Megatron and the Decepticons arrive at Jetfire's team's position. [[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]] and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] tackle Megatron so Jetfire can get Coby and [[Lori]] away safely, but this attempt is in vain, as Megatron wipes out all three Autobots pretty much instantly. As he turns on the humans, the wounded Jetfire grabs his leg, but is saved from being completely destroyed by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime. Prime fires on Megatron, to virtually no effect, and Megatron responds by knocking Prime out of the air with a single flying kick. As he stands over his fallen foe, Megatron's black aura dissipates, and his newly-colored armor is revealed as he announces he is now '''Galvatron'''.

Metroplex has at Galvatron, but the Decepticon stops the giant's [[Sparkdrinker]] axe with ''a single finger'', then pushes him back easily. Metroplex powers up his weapon with a Cyber Key, but Galvatron actually takes the weapon from Metroplex's hands and bashes him with it, knocking him out for the count. Vector Prime leaps in, but is dispatched with a single swipe of Galvatron's hand, and the Decepticon leader then activates his bladed shield to bash Optimus around some. Prime refuses to stay down, so Galvatron whips out his gatling cannon, which sends Optimus flying. In victory, Galvatron emits a lightning storm, and one bolt screams towards the kids at the top of a high tower... but Optimus ''somehow'' gets in the way of the bolt, saving them.

Recalling the promise he made to their parents to keep the children safe, Optimus powers up into [[Super Mode]] and the two leaders charge one another. Their fists collide spectacularly, and Galvatron is pushed back. But Prime falters, and Galvatron is ready to go again... until Metroplex hurls the gigantic Sparkdrinker at Optimus. Prime manages to summon a Cyber Key to power it up, and the two rush at each other ''again'', this time to do the classic run-past-each-other-then-stand-dramatically deal. When the dust clears, Optimus falls to his knees, and Galvatron stands triumphant...for about five seconds, as numerous wounds open on him. The Decepticons rush to Galvatron's aid, and he decides to call it a day. They run, and Soundwave, who has been watching this whole time, also flies off.

The Autobots return to the ''Ogygia'', and use the machinery Coby recovered to plot a course underground. The ship heads for the coordinates, but along their way, they pass by the crevice Galvatron tore when he emerged from within the planet... which now contains the ''[[Atlantis]]'' starship!

The planet leader unfortunately tells Prime that they cannot: It's not that they don't ''want'' to, but their customs dictate that data on old cities be erased, so the lower levels are as much a mystery to them as they are to the newcomers. Undeterred by this turn of events, the Autobots determine to search the old cities for any remaining data. Given the size of the planet, narrowing down their search radius is a necessity, and to that end, they start unloading equipment from the ''[[Ogygia]]'' which will help [[Vector Prime]] get a general fix on the location of the [[Cyber Planet Key]] via the [[Omega Lock]].

Back underground, Megatron is fuming, literally. Ransack and Crumplezone get a little too close and get knocked backwards by the sheer force of Megatron's "aura of fury". Scourge assures everyone that it's not ''them'' he's angry at... and then Megatron's fury boils over, creating an energy blast that scatters the Decepticons and punches a hole to the surface. Megatron rises high into the air, and the Decepticons pull themselves from the rubble. Soundwave announces he's "droppin' outta this session" and flies off.
Megatron rumbles that he needs more power, and the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key as does the Omega Lock, which starts emitting the [[Omega Frequency]]. Megatron's spirit resonates with the Key, and he becomes intangible, plunging downward, through layer after layer of the planet, all the way to the lowest level and the resting place of the Key. When he reaches out to take it, the Key resists him, but Megatron persists and begins to draw energy from it. In a mighty blast of energy, Megatron shoots back through to the surface, tearing a huge hole in the planet. As the Decepticons look up at their leader, Megatron stands shrouded in a black miasma, and Thunderblast swoons at the sight.

Back at the ''Ogygia'', the Omega Lock's reaction has allowed Vector Prime to pinpoint the general location of the Key, but he warns that someone else has obviously located it first, and drawn energy from it. The Autobots split into groups to search (the fliers turning it into a little race), but by dividing themselves, the Autobots inadvertently make themselves the perfect target for the darkness-enshrouded Megatron. [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Leobreaker]], [[Snarl (Cybertron)|Snarl]] and [[Landmine (Energon)|Landmine]] are the first to fall to the superpowered Decepticon leader, who takes them out so fast that their battle does not even damage the surrounding area. The three Autobots' unconscious bodies found by Optimus's team when Vector Prime realizes they have not reported in, but even as they are tending to them, elsewhere on the planet, [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] finds herself being pursued by Megatron. She is knocked into the air, but [[Quickmix (Cybertron)|Quickmix]] catches her and fires at Megatron before engaging him hand-to-hand...only to be quickly knocked out and smashed into the ground (literally). Optimus's team soon finds them, too, and Override warns Optimus about the upgraded Megatron, prompting the Autobot leader to recall all his troops.

Jetfire's team receives the recall order just as [[Coby Hansen|Coby]] is crawling through an old computer, and he instructs the human to get out immediately. Coby, however, spots a data chip in the distance, and asks for five minutes to check it out. While he successfully recovers the chip, those five minutes prove to be a fatal delay: having bested the [[Cybertron Defense Team]], Megatron and the Decepticons arrive at Jetfire's team's position. [[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]] and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] tackle Megatron so Jetfire can get Coby and [[Lori]] away safely, but this attempt is in vain, as Megatron wipes out all three Autobots pretty much instantly. As he turns on the humans, the wounded Jetfire grabs his leg, but is saved from being completely destroyed by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime. Prime fires on Megatron, to virtually no effect, and Megatron responds by knocking Prime out of the air with a single flying kick. As he stands over his fallen foe, Megatron's black aura dissipates, and his newly-colored armor is revealed as he announces he is now '''Galvatron'''.

Metroplex has at Galvatron, but the Decepticon stops the giant's [[Sparkdrinker]] axe with ''a single finger'', then pushes him back easily. Metroplex powers up his weapon with a Cyber Key, but Galvatron actually takes the weapon from Metroplex's hands and bashes him with it, knocking him out for the count. Vector Prime leaps in, but is dispatched with a single swipe of Galvatron's hand, and the Decepticon leader then activates his bladed shield to bash Optimus around some. Prime refuses to stay down, so Galvatron whips out his gatling cannon, which sends Optimus flying. In victory, Galvatron emits a lightning storm, and one bolt screams towards the kids at the top of a high tower... but Optimus ''somehow'' gets in the way of the bolt, saving them.

Recalling the promise he made to their parents to keep the children safe, Optimus powers up into [[Super Mode]] and the two leaders charge one another. Their fists collide spectacularly, and Galvatron is pushed back. But Prime falters, and Galvatron is ready to go again... until Metroplex hurls the gigantic Sparkdrinker at Optimus. Prime manages to summon a Cyber Key to power it up, and the two rush at each other ''again'', this time to do the classic run-past-each-other-then-stand-dramatically deal. When the dust clears, Optimus falls to his knees, and Galvatron stands triumphant...for about five seconds, as numerous wounds open on him. The Decepticons rush to Galvatron's aid, and he decides to call it a day. They run, and Soundwave, who has been watching this whole time, also flies off.

The Autobots return to the ''Ogygia'', and use the machinery Coby recovered to plot a course underground. The ship heads for the coordinates, but along their way, they pass by the crevice Galvatron tore when he emerged from within the planet... which now contains the ''[[Atlantis]]'' starship!

[[Wing Saber (Energon)|Wing Saber]] and [[Evac (Cybertron)|Evac]] tackle Megatron so Jetfire can get Coby and [[Lori]] away safely, but this attempt is in vain, as Megatron wipes out all three Autobots pretty much instantly. As he turns on the humans, the wounded Jetfire grabs his leg, but is saved from being completely destroyed by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime. Prime fires on Megatron, to virtually no effect, and Megatron responds by knocking Prime out of the air with a single flying kick. As he stands over his fallen foe, Megatron's black aura dissipates, and his newly-colored armor is revealed as he announces he is now '''Galvatron'''.

In a lower layer of [[Gigantion]], [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]] helps the battered [[Megatron (Armada)|Megatron]] walk after his thrashing at the hands of [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]]. The [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] offer words of encouragement, but Megatron isn't listening, as he growls that he needs more power.

Up on the surface of the planet, [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] recalls the [[Autobot]]s' brief but tumultuous time on Gigantion, before asking Metroplex to guide them to the central layer. The planet leader unfortunately tells Prime that they cannot: It's not that they don't ''want'' to, but their customs dictate that data on old cities be erased, so the lower levels are as much a mystery to them as they are to the newcomers. Undeterred by this turn of events, the Autobots determine to search the old cities for any remaining data. Given the size of the planet, narrowing down their search radius is a necessity, and to that end, they start unloading equipment from the ''[[Ogygia]]'' which will help [[Vector Prime]] get a general fix on the location of the [[Cyber Planet Key]] via the [[Omega Lock]].

Back underground, Megatron is fuming, literally. Ransack and Crumplezone get a little too close and get knocked backwards by the sheer force of Megatron's "aura of fury". Scourge assures everyone that it's not ''them'' he's angry at... and then Megatron's fury boils over, creating an energy blast that scatters the Decepticons and punches a hole to the surface. Megatron rises high into the air, and the Decepticons pull themselves from the rubble. Soundwave announces he's "droppin' outta this session" and flies off.
Megatron rumbles that he needs more power, and the Gigantion Cyber Planet Key as does the Omega Lock, which starts emitting the [[Omega Frequency]]. Megatron's spirit resonates with the Key, and he becomes intangible, plunging downward, through layer after layer of the planet, all the way to the lowest level and the resting place of the Key. When he reaches out to take it, the Key resists him, but Megatron persists and begins to draw energy from it. In a mighty blast of energy, Megatron shoots back through to the surface, tearing a huge hole in the planet. As the Decepticons look up at their leader, Megatron stands shrouded in a black miasma, and Thunderblast swoons at the sight.

A wild and free bird majestically soars through the air, experiencing the wonders of aviation as it feels the wind flow around its proud wings. The bird explores its domain with a grace and sincerity and deliciousness. The lattermost attribute is of interest to a hungry [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]], who quickly swallows the bird as a snack.

Terrorsaur discovers a [[flying mountain|massive mountain elevated into the sky]]—defying gravity. Flying closer, he discovers the mountain houses an incredible cache of [[energon]]. To check the energon's stability, he transforms into his robot mode, at the risk of having raw energon radiation harm his circuits. When he tries to take a sample for study, bolts of pure energy surge though him, greatly enhancing his abilities. Naturally, the first thing the overcharged [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] does is fly back to his base to overthrow [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]. Luckily, [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] also finds the airborne crag, and watches Terrorsaur leaving at top speeds.

Outside of the [[Darksyde|Predacons' crashed ship]], Megatron shows his troops some newly installed territorial defenses. Terrorsaur arrives, and flowing with power, immediately announces that he's taking over the Predacons. Megatron obviously disagrees, and the two fight, but the pumped-up Terrorsaur easily blasts Megatron over the edge of a cliff, where he lands in pieces. With the remaining Predacons under his control, Terrorsaur announces the [[Maximal]]s are his next target. Cheetor, having followed Terrorsaur from the floating mountain, perceives the new developments as bad news.

Before he can lead the final battle against the Maximals, Terrorsaur finds his new charge has a short life and he must return to the floating mountain to reinvigorate himself. [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] follows in secret, eager to steal the source of Terrorsaur's new capabilities. [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] is left alone with [[Waspinator]], so the two begin to re-assemble and repair Megatron.

Cheetor rushes back to the [[Axalon (BW)|Maximal base]] and scrambles onto the bridge, where he spits out an incoherent sequence of words vaguely relating to the current crisis. Giving explanations a second try, Cheetor explains the story thus far to his fellow Maximals. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] concludes that the floating mountain isn't totally scientifically impossible, given enough energon. [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Rattrap]] prepare to destroy the entire island.

The two watch Terrorsaur re-charge his systems. To give Rattrap time to plant the explosives, Optimus Primal engages Terrorsaur in an airborne chase. Primal swiftly dodges most of what Terrorsaur fires, but eventually is hit by his [[Optic weaponry|optic blasts]]. He lands to deliver the finishing blast to Primal, who is now trapped in his beast mode thanks to energon buildup. But before a final shot can be fired, Terrorsaur's energon enhancements run out again, and he is forced to go for another recharge, promising to return to finish Optimus.

Terrorsaur, meanwhile, discovers the timed charges Rattrap left, and flees in panic without recharging.

The explosives detonate, causing the energon crystals to collapse and explode. Before the ground loses form, Optimus arrives to carry Rattrap away from annihilation. With his ratty companion, Optimus Primal swan dives off the exploding alp and somehow the two survive thanks to Primal grabbing onto a tree.

Terrorsaur, no longer having the island's resources to rely on, returns home then meet an upset Megatron.

==Synopsis==
A wild and free bird majestically soars through the air, experiencing the wonders of aviation as it feels the wind flow around its proud wings. The bird explores its domain with a grace and sincerity and deliciousness. The lattermost attribute is of interest to a hungry Terrorsaur, who quickly swallows the bird as a snack.

Terrorsaur discovers a [[flying mountain|massive mountain elevated into the sky]]—defying gravity. Flying closer, he discovers the mountain houses an incredible cache of [[Energon (fuel)|energon]]. To check the energon's stability, he transforms into his robot mode, at the risk of having raw energon radiation harm his circuits. When he tries to take a sample for study, bolts of pure energy surge though him, greatly enhancing his abilities. Naturally, the first thing the overcharged [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] does is fly back to his base to overthrow Megatron. Luckily, Cheetor also finds the airborne crag, and watches Terrorsaur leaving at top speeds.

Outside of the [[Darksyde|Predacons' crashed ship]], Megatron shows his troops some newly installed territorial defenses. Terrorsaur arrives, and flowing with power, immediately announces that he's taking over the Predacons. Megatron obviously disagrees, and the two fight, but the pumped-up Terrorsaur easily blasts Megatron over the edge of a cliff, where he lands in pieces. With the remaining Predacons under his control, Terrorsaur announces the [[Maximals]] are his next target. Cheetor, having followed Terrorsaur from the floating mountain, perceives the new developments as bad news.

Before he can lead the final battle against the Maximals, Terrorsaur finds his new charge has a short life and he must return to the floating mountain to reinvigorate himself. Tarantulas follows in secret, eager to steal the source of Terrorsaur's new capabilities. Scorponok is left alone with Waspinator, so the two begin to re-assemble and repair Megatron.

Cheetor rushes back to the Maximal base and scrambles onto the bridge, where he spits out an incoherent sequence of words vaguely relating to the current crisis. Giving explanations a second try, Cheetor explains the story thus far to his fellow Maximals. Rhinox concludes that the floating mountain isn't totally scientifically impossible, given enough energon. Primal and Rattrap prepare to destroy the entire island.

A weakened Terrorsaur flaps back to the island; on the ground, Tarantulas climbs a webline up to the suspended formation. Optimus and his cargo, Rattrap, arrive moments later. The two watch Terrorsaur re-charge his systems. To give Rattrap time to plant the explosives, Primal engages Terrorsaur in an airborne chase. Primal swiftly dodges most of what Terrorsaur fires, but eventually is hit by his [[Optic weaponry|optic blasts]]. He lands to deliver the finishing blast to Primal, who is now trapped in his beast mode thanks to energon buildup. But before a final shot can be fired, Terrorsaur's energon enhancements run out again, and he is forced to go for another recharge, promising to return to finish Optimus.

Rattrap meanwhile, has been tussling with Tarantulas, the two of them staying in their Beast Modes as they wrestle. With a toss of mud, Rattrap blinds Tarantulas and the spider blindly runs off the side of the mountain to the ground far, far below. Rattrap is passed by the flapping Terrorsaur, and concludes that Primal must have lost their bout. Terrorsaur, meanwhile, discovers the timed charges Rattrap left, and flees in panic without recharging.

The explosives detonate, causing the energon crystals to collapse and explode. Before the ground loses form, Optimus arrives to carry Rattrap away from annihilation. With his ratty companion, Primal swan dives off the exploding alp and somehow the two survive thanks to Primal grabbing onto a tree.

Terrorsaur, no longer having the island's resources to rely on, returns home to meet a furious Megatron.

Dangerously obsessive, Optronix worked as a librarian in the Great Cybertronian Archives. Backstabbing his way up the ranks, he soon amassed a following of like-minded Cybertronians who believed in his code of advancement through conflict. Suddenly, his armies attacked, sweeping through cities and killing those who refused to join them. When the scientist [[Starscream (SG)|Starscream]] turned down Optronix's offer, he ordered Starscream's [[Crystal City]] home to be destroyed in front of him.<ref>[[Starscream (SG)|Starscream]]'s bio card</ref> With their spoils, his "Autobots" began arming themselves with more complicated weaponry, but Optronix, now named Optimus Prime, saved the most advanced upgrades for himself. His hunger for power and knowledge ended one day without warning; he discovered something terrible that destroyed his mind, and in place of his cold calculations was now an unhinged mind bent on random, indiscriminate violence. He strung up his countless victims along the walls of [[Iacon]] and began talking to them, asking them mockingly for advice.

When the Decepticons destroyed all but one of the rogue mercenary group named the [[Wrecker]]s in the battle of [[Praxus-Delta]], Optimus Prime welcomed their leader, [[Rodimus (SG)|Rodimus]], into his ranks.<ref>[[Rodimus (SG)|Rodimus]]'s bio card</ref> Increasingly paranoid, Optimus Prime began suspecting his subordinates of treachery. He killed the leader of his elite [[Seeker (SG)|Seeker]] unit, [[Drench (SG)|Drench]], and when he learned of Seeker [[Sideswipe (SG)|Sideswipe]]'s dissatisfaction with his leader's assassination, Prime staged an ambush to kill him and [[Cliffjumper (SG)|another Autobot]] as well. Optimus began looking elsewhere. He targeted the distant planet Earth for conquest, had several of his Autobots reconfigure their bodies to transform into the machinery native to the planet, and began construction of an [[Ark (SG)|''Ark'']]. However, he requested so much weaponry to be built onto the starship that the integrity of the launching platform was in question. He dismissed these concerns.

Close to the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s completion, [[Cliffjumper (SG)|Cliffjumper]] appeared to return from the dead. At first, he was readily welcomed back into their ranks, but they quickly learned that he was not their Cliffjumper at all, but a [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper doppelganger]]. Prime shot him and ordered his body dumped in the [[Rad Zone]]. This backfired, as Cliffjumper was recruited by the Decepticons, and during a subsequent full-scale Decepticon attack, his [[glass gas]] weaponry was used in an attack on the ''Ark'' launching platform. Prime's plans to conquer Earth were stopped for the moment. {{storylink|Shattered Glass (issue)|Shattered Glass}}

After a later Autobot ambush at the recently rediscovered [[Arch-Ayr]] fuel dump, the Cliffjumper doppelganger angrily rushed Optimus Prime, followed by the combined forces of the [[Mayhem Suppression Squad]]. Despite it all, Optimus Prime kept on his feet, though his rage was growing with every blow. No one, however, was expecting the sudden arrival of an army of [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobot]]s led by the exiled mad scientist, [[Wheeljack (SG)|Wheeljack]]. Optimus Prime ordered the rampaging Dinobots to destroy the Decepticons, but instead the beasts attacked each other. During the chaos, both sides withdrew.

Optimus Prime was furious at the Autobots' failure. At [[Side Burn (SG)|Side Burn]]'s clever suggestion, Prime ordered Wheeljack be put in charge of rebuilding the ''Ark'', a task that the mad scientist felt was beneath him. Also, he demanded that the Dinobots be hunted down and gathered for the Autobots' purposes.

Blurr and Rodimus returned triumphantly with eight Dinobots, though Rodimus had lost his hand in the process. Optimus Prime stood over Rodimus as he awoke from [[Ratchet (SG)|Ratchet]]'s table: the traitorous Seeker now had a buzzsaw in place of where his hand used to be. A suitable punishment! Prime told Rodimus he should be grateful he let him live at all. Perhaps he should use the saw to remove that [[facial hair|ridiculous thing]] from his face? Though Blurr and Rodimus thought Grimlock had died during their search for the Dinobots, sure enough, Grimlock appeared, alive and strangely very intelligent, within their base. Optimus Prime was about to punish Grimlock as well, if Grimlock had not then pointed out a fuel system error in the blueprints of the ''Ark''. The evil Autobot leader let the Dinobot leader go, but demanded someone be brought to him he could destroy. {{storylink|Dungeons & Dinobots}}

When Optimus Prime ordered the ''Ark'' fixed, he knew that the Decepticons would try to follow the Autobots into space. [[Jazz (SG)|Jazz]] mentioned that [[Ricochet (SG)|Ricochet]] had taken care of the Decepticons. Optimus's eyes filled with rage as he learned that Ricochet had captured Megatron. Prime immediately left to reprimand Ricochet for stealing the honor of destroying Megatron. Upon his arrival at the [[Temple of Knowledge]], Optimus and Ricochet were attacked by a group of Decepticon [[Micromaster]]s, allowing Megatron to escape. After a few turnabouts, Megatron won the day. The ''Ark'' launched without Optimus Prime (due to Rodimus' treachery), so Prime ordered a retreat. Once back at the launch site, he learned from Blurr that Rodimus had thrown the Autobots loyal to Prime off the ship. Optimus Prime ordered Ricochet to the [[Agonizing Rehabilitation Chamber]]s for his impudent plan of capturing Megatron. In one of [[Aquarius (SG)|Aquarius]]' explanatory flashbacks to [[Breakaway (Classics)|Breakaway]], [[Topspin (Classics)|Topspin]], and [[Landquake (Timelines)|Landquake]], Optimus Prime asked [[Ironhide (SG)|Ironhide]] how progress was coming on [[Omega Doom]]. He was pleased to hear that it was going well, and gloated that once the behemoth was finished, the galaxy would be his for the taking.

In the present day, Rodimus promised that his assassins would take down Optimus Prime at the same time [[Alpha Trion (SG)|Alpha Trion]]'s agents took down Megatron, thus paving the way for their own conquering. {{storylink|Reunification: Part 3}}

After the assassination of Megatron, [[Hound (SG)|Hound]] and [[Remote Patrol Six]] made their move, surrounding Optimus Prime and Ricochet as they discussed Megatron's death, intending to kill Optimus and install Rodimus in his place as Prime. Hound's rally cries failed to impress Optimus, and the Autobot leader proceeded to use Ricochet as a living shield against a blast from [[Warpath (SG)|Warpath's]] chest-mounted cannon, before crushing [[Kup (SG)|Kup's]] head with his bare hands, destroying Warpath's chest cannon, taking out Hound by flinging Warpath into him, and cannon-blasting [[Camshaft (SG)|Camshaft]] in the head.

However, the battle was not over yet, as [[Alpha Trion (SG)|Alpha Trion]], [[Sky Lynx (SG)|Sky Lynx]] and [[Nightscream (TransTech)|Nightscream]] had arrived to kill Optimus themselves. But as the space bridges grew less reliable and the [[Golden Age]] drew to a close, Sentinel reorganized Cybertron into Guild-run castes, an action [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] opposed, forcing him to retreat forever into the [[Hall of Records]]. Sentinel also became reclusive, enforcing the notion he did not care for the lower castes.

When the [[Kaon]]ian [[gladiatorial combat|gladiator]] boss [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] began preaching against the [[caste system]], Sentinel dispatched the security agents [[Bumper (Prime)|Bumper]] and [[Fastback (Prime)|Fastback]] to investigate him. When their identities were exposed, Megatron brutally murdered them - an act for which Sentinel blamed both Megatron and himself. Megatron occasionally desired to take out his anger on Sentinel, but Starscream saw him as a potential bargaining chip—perhaps as a trade in a ransom deal—so they compromised and had the Prime moved to [[Moonbase One|Moon Base One]]. As the war with the [[Autobot]]s lulled, Starscream visited Sentinel and offered him a chance to redeem his cowardly behavior at Altihex. As Megatron plotted to take the [[Plasma energy]] Chamber beneath the [[High Council Tower]], Starscream released Sentinel and he confronted Megatron below [[Iacon (city-state)|Iacon]]. Though he was an agile opponent, Megatron ''literally'' disarmed Sentinel and cut open his chest, exposing the [[Code Key]] of Justice needed to access the Chamber within him. Starscream removed the Key and [[Blackout (Prime)|Blackout]] was ordered to return Sentinel to Kaon.

When Megatron launched a raid on [[Trypticon (Prime)|Trypticon station]], and Starscream joined the Decepticons, [[Jetfire (Prime)|Jetfire]] escaped to warn Autobot leader Zeta Prime that the Decepticons had access to Dark Energon. Zeta Prime sent a large group of Autobot soldiers to guard the Energon bridge that Jetfire knew Starscream and his crew would be reactivating in order to refine an endless supply of Dark Energon for the war effort, ordering that all Decepticons would be shot on sight, but they were unsuccessful. After the Decepticons began manufacturing Dark Energon in mass quantities, Megatron led the attack on the Autobot capitol of [[Iacon (city-state)|Iacon]], intending to take the [[Omega Key]], a tool that would allow access to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s core. Megatron's plan was to pump the powerful [[Dark Energon]] into the core in the hopes of reviving the planet and restoring it to what he claimed would be its "former glory". He found the Omega Key's resting place...but it was gone, Zeta Prime having anticipated Megatron's plan and taken it under his personal protection himself. Megatron simply declared that he would take it from Zeta, who appeared several more times via holographs during the missions, warning the Decepticons to turn back before it was too late and Zeta would be forced to execute them.

Megatron's team managed to fight their way to Zeta Prime's chamber in the [[Vaults|Iacon Vaults]], where he was in control of a mechanism that not only rendered him invincible to all attack, but allowed him to create [[Holo-Brute|holographic energon clones of himself]] and manipulate the ceiling to crush the Decepticons. However, the device had a fatal flaw--it generated tremendous heat, requiring the core to periodically open up in order to cool down, allowing Megatron and his Decepticons to damage it. As Zeta Prime's machine crumbled around him, he was pinned to the floor by the wreckage. He told Megatron to finish it, but instead, the Decepticon leader squeezed his [[spark]] casing, forcing Prime to release his grip on the Omega Key. As Megatron gloated in his victory, the "key" started to flash and beep. Zeta Prime laughed, mocking Megatron for heeding the words of his misinformed spies. The device Megatron now held in his hands was not the Omega Key itself, but merely the device that activated the Key. Zeta said that Megatron would only have to wait for the Omega Key to come to him.

Zeta Prime was taken to Megatron's [[Kaon]] Prison Complex, but elsewhere on Cybertron, [[Omega Supreme (Prime)|Omega Supreme]], guardian of Iacon and, as it turned out, the true Omega Key, was activated with a mission: Destroy Megatron.

After the defeat of Omega Supreme and the corruption of Cybertron's core with Dark Energon, rumours spread through the Autobot camp that Zeta Prime was dead. A young soldier named Optimus was forced to take tempoary command of the Autobots and lead the defensive efforts of Iacon. After Starscream was defeated in the [[Decagon]]'s communications tower, a message, seemingly from Zeta Prime, was played to all Autobot frequencies. Zeta reported his location, and claimed that he had acquired information vital to the Autobot war effort. [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] warned that it was an obvious trap, despite the confirmation of his unique ID signature, but Optimus determined that if there was a chance Zeta was still alive, the Autobots must try to rescue him.

Allowing themselves to be captured, Optimus, [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] and [[Sideswipe (Prime)|Sideswipe]] were imprisoned (and then broke free), only to learn from Megatron himself that he had orchestrated Zeta Prime's message, their capture and their subsequent escape, so that Megatron could talk to Optimus in a situation he controlled. After being captured and escaping ''again'', Optimus' team freed the remaining Autobot prisoners and [[Air Raid (Prime)|Air Raid]] (who had helped orchestrate their first escape), then set off to find their leader. Eventually, Zeta Prime was found, being tortured by [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] in his laboratory. After Soundwave was bested by the Autobots, in desperation, the Decepticon drew energy from the injured Zeta's spark itself, mortally wounding him, though Optimus took a final bullet from Soundwave for his erstwhile commander. Optimus promised to bring Zeta home, but with his last breath, the Prime said that while he appreciated the noble sentiment, it was already too late. Zeta Prime, leader of the Autobots, was dead.

Optimus took Zeta's body back to Iacon, presented it before the [[Autobot High Council]], and begged them for guidance in these desperate times. The leader of the Council stated that they existed only to choose Primes, and that it was the Primes who led the Autobots. When Optimus responded that there were no Primes left, the Council leader asked if Optimus would still reject his true calling. The Council said that for too long they have watched the Primes fall to greed and pride, but Optimus was one leader whose wisdom and courage inspired and transformed the lives of those around him. There are records that indicate that at the time Dark Energon was placed aboard by an ancient High Council the station underwent a major overhaul: [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]] confirmed that it was given a spark and made a living being at that point. [[Air Commander]] [[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] was one of the few with knowledge of its secrets. As a result, he ordered his forces to occupy it after the capture of [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Sentinel Prime]], as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Megatron and his growing Decepticon army. Megatron decided he tired of negotiations and took Trypticon Station by force. Upon Starscream's return to the station, Megatron pressed the Seeker and ultimately gained access to the facility's research on Dark Energon. Megatron noted to [[Shockwave (Prime)|Shockwave]] that there was potential for a spark within Trypticon, though [[Shockwave (Prime)|Shockwave]] pointed out the [[Well of All Sparks|Well]] no longer produced sparks. Megatron suggested he use the sparks of the scientists killed and maimed in the seize of Trypticon to give life to the station.

The supplies of Dark Energon from the initial harvest were slender, so Megatron required the means to transfer large quantities of [[energon (fuel)|energon]] to the station so that they could be converted into the rarer resource. As Trypticon Station was configured to receive fuel from the [[Geosynchronous Energon Bridge]] in [[Crystal City]], the Decepticons were able to transfer an initial supply, but not nearly enough for the ravenous rate at which they were consuming Dark Energon. After a team led by [[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] ventured into the planet's core to cut off the transfer, Megatron decided to switch tactics. He allowed Shockwave to apply the experimental knowledge he had gleaned over the course of the war, and Trypticon was granted true life, including the ability to shape its corridors into a dizzying array of defense drones and [[Mini-Con|Minicon]]s. Ultimately, a team of Autobots aboard the ''[[Eight Track]]'' found a gap in the station's external defenses and managed to venture within and knock the behemoth from orbit.

Victory was brief, however, as Trypticon revealed a robot form and crawled from the wreckage planetside. After Optimus Prime learned of the coming corruption of the [[Core]], he ordered an evacuation of all Autobots. When Megatron started using his space station to blow up the ships, Optimus Prime sent Jetfire, Air Raid, and Silverbolt to destroy the station. Flooding it with coolant while under heavy fire, the jets were about to blow it up...until they discovered that the station itself was alive. At this point, the Trypticon orbital weapon gun began first targeting locations on Cybertron such as [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Zeta Prime]]'s [[Vaults]], the [[Hall of Ancients]], the [[Stellar Galleries]] and the [[Code Archives]] before finally acquiring the coordinates for Optimus Prime. The fliers hoped that they could prevent Iacon's destruction by destroying Trypticon's [[Transformation cog|conversion cog]], reverting him to his robot mode.

Unfortunately for the aerial Autobots, his robot mode was a gigantic, metal dinosaur. Jetfire destroyed his jetpack, and Trypticon plummeted to the planet below. Optimus, Ironhide, and Bumblebee went to investigate the crash and battled the titan, destroying his shoulder-mounted weapons systems by overloading them with energon batteries. The Autobots proceeded to shoot his exposed heat vents and to destroy a set of three power cores along his shoulders and back. However, not too long afterwards, newly ascended Autobot leader Optimus Prime freed the Core from the Dark Energon, and ordered a planet-wide evacuation of the population from Cybertron. Megatron began using Trypticon Space Station to fire upon the evacuating Autobot masses, prompting a strike from Optimus' team. The Autobots were able to make Trypticon Space Station crash to Cybertron... only for it to transform into a city-sized Decepticon dinosaur. Luckily, Optimus and his men finally defeated the titan, and ended the threat of Dark Energon for good.
