A '''Super Mode''' is an auxiliary transformation some Cybertronians possess that is used sparingly, perhaps due to a higher energy consumption. This transformation often involves combining with unused portions of their [[alternate mode]] and bringing normally concealed weapons systems online. This form is often a variation on the robot mode, but there are many who possess vehicular or other Super Modes. In some continuities, it is referred to as a '''Battle Mode''', '''Brute Mode''', '''Hyper Mode''' or '''Ultra Mode'''. A robot-mode super mode is, amazingly enough, often called a '''Super Robot'''.

One might easily consider [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] one of the earliest examples of a Super Mode, due to his toy combining with his trailer to form a Super Robot. However, due to the recognition factor and possible confusion with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]], he was never depicted in his primary robot mode. This made his Super Mode his ''de facto'' normal mode.

This was later superseded by Optimus Prime's upgrade into a [[Powermaster]], by which he acquired a canonical Super Mode. Of course, the series ended immediately thereafter.

===Masterforce (Japan Only)===
[[Ginrai]], much like his American Powermaster counterpart, possessed both a robot mode and a Super Robot mode from combining with his trailer. As well, he could combine this powerful mode with the [[Godbomber]] drone to form a still larger and shinier "God Ginrai" mode. Though Godbomber had no counterpart in the English-language fiction, the rerelease of Powermaster Optimus Prime included the mold improvements featured in Ginrai as well as the Godbomber figure, renamed [[Apex Bomber]], who formed Prime's "Apex Armor."

===Beast Wars II (Japan Only)===
In the Beast Wars II movie "Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger", the characters Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal (called Convoy) used the power of their Matrixes to transform into Flash Lio Convoy and Burning Convoy in order to defeat the out of control and overwhelmingly powerful Majin Zarak.

Lio Convoy also possessed the ability to merge with his doppelganger Lio Junior to become what was known as the “Legendary Warrior”. Interestingly enough, the “Legendary Warrior” was merely Lio Convoy colored completely green, but he was immensely powerful and managed to defeat the Angolmois powered Galvatron.

[[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] initially had a smaller robot mode composed of just his vehicle mode cab, which could then combine with pieces of his "trailer" to form a larger, more powerful robot (this mode was called Super Fire Convoy). Later on, he and [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]] could combine to form the Super Robot [[Omega Prime]]. Neither was the dominant personality in this fusion, much to Magnus's disappointment.

In ''Transformers Cybertron'', Optimus Prime transforms into Super Mode. Most of his trailer goes onto his back while two leg pieces connect to the blue part of his legs and his [[mouthplate]] comes over his face. Optimus Prime goes into Super Mode when fighting in battle against anybody vaguely threatening.

Optimus Prime could also enter a number of Super Mode configurations by combining with other characters, such as "Savage Claw Mode" with [[Leobreaker]] and "Sonic Wing Mode" with Wing Saber.

Conversely, Megatron could form the "Dark Claw Mode' with [[Nemesis Breaker]].

===IDW G1 Comics===
[[Nova Prime]] possessed a Super Robot mode formed by combining with his vehicle mode's trailer. This form also granted him wings and thus the power of flight.

[[Thunderwing]] revealed that not only were his robot and jet modes enhanced by the [[Pretender]] process, but he also possessed an extremely powerful tertiary "Ultra Mode." However this form drew heavily from the reserves of [[Ore-13]] that were powering him, causing the enhanced energon variant to go critical and burn him out from the inside.

After the events of the [[Masterforce (franchise)|Masterforce war]] on Earth, the [[Transtector]] formerly bonded to the human [[Ginrai]] - now having taken its human partner's name as its own, becoming known as Ginrai itself - joined with the Autobot forces in space, where he became good friends with [[Star Saber (G1)|Star Saber]] and his adopted human son, [[Jan Minakaze]]. Before long, Star Saber was appointed Supreme Commander of the Autobots, while Ginrai became commander of the Defense Force for Space Sector Two. Operating out of a base in the G Nebula, Ginrai's time was occupied battling the Decepticon forces under Overlord's control, so much so that Star Saber occasionally had to respond to emergencies in Sector Two, such as a [[Breastforce]] attack on planet [[Micro]].

Feeling guilty over taking up Star Saber's time in such a manner, Ginrai was quick to come to his aid when he was lured into a trap on Earth by Decepticon [[Emperor of Destruction]] [[Deathsaurus]]. Confronting Deathsaurus in battle, Ginrai was struck by a blast from the villain's Living-Metal-Destroying Cannon and badly damaged. Despite the best medical efforts of [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] and [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]], and [[Minerva]] Ginrai's body was left useless and immobile. Due to a slip by Perceptor, however, he learned of the existence of a reconstruction process conceived by Star Saber that would allow him to become a power-up for the Autobot leader. Star Saber refused to allow him to submit to the process, revolted at the notion of using his close friend's body in such a way, but Ginrai insisted. Perceptor and Wheeljack brought his life functions to an end, and then restored him to Star Saber's specifications as '''Victory Leo'''.

An unfortunate side-effect of the process left Victory Leo's mind and body unbalanced - immediately after his transformation, he began to run wild in his lion mode, displaying a more wild, feral nature than God Ginrai ever had, leaving Jan dismayed at the apparent loss of the being he had considered his friend. When Jan was trapped in a collapsed building as Victory Leo battled the Breastforce, however, his pleas for help reached Victory Leo, and some measure of balance returned to his mind, leading him to rescue Jan.

When Deathsaurus threatened the Earth with orbital missile strikes if the Autobots interfered in the Decepticons' energy-gathering raids, Victory Leo had to be forcibly held back by the [[Brainmaster]]s to prevent him from attacking their enemies and dooming the planet. Star Saber came to the rescue with a new unification circuit implanted within his body - with this new component, he and Victory Leo could combine their bodies into Victory Saber. In the form of a combined jet, Victory Saber soared into space at a faster rate than Deathsaurus had predicted, and then in their combined robot form, destroyed the satellite controlling the missiles.

Despite his proven battle prowess, Victory Leo was still not entirely the being Ginrai had been, retaining a more violent, short-tempered personality which sometimes brought him into conflict with the other Autobots, who, in turn, did not trust him as much as they had Ginrai. When Breastforce member [[Leozack]] impersonated Star Saber, Victory Leo realized that something was wrong, but none of his team-mates believed him. Even when Victory Leo tried to stop Leozack from taking Victory Saber's combination information, the Autobots thought he was a traitor, until the real Star Saber showed up and Leozack was exposed, gaining Victory Leo his comrades trust.

When Deathsaurus finally succeeded in reactivating his colossal planet-destroying battle fortress, Victory Leo and Star Saber combined into Victory Saber took to space to try and stop the deadly craft, only to be knocked out by its weapons and crashed, unonsciousness, on its surface. Recovering as it transformed into its "Destroyer Mode," Victory Saber attacked again but was confronted by Breastforce combiner Liokaiser. At the same time, Jan arrived in his mobile mech with information that could destroy the fortress, and Victory Saber separated so that Star Saber could follow him into the fortress; Victory Leo took on Liokaiser and defeated him by hurling him into the fortress's cannon barrel. Jan then succeeded in beginning the fortress's destruction, and Deszaras, defeated by Star Saber, set the craft on collision course with Earth. Forming Victory Saber once again, the two heroes successfully destroyed the fortress and saved the planet.

For a brief time, [[Hasbro]]'s official website checklist featured listings for two "Halloween Horrorcon Value Packs" that were to be Wal*Mart [[exclusive]]s... which also likely explains why they were cancelled. (Wal*Mart had taken a good half-dozen exclusives and released them more-or-less simultaneously, leading to a huge glut. A lot of other ''Transformers'' exclusives were cancelled during the ''[[Universe]]'' era.)

In 2004, several test-shots appeared on ebay in a group, among them a snow leopard [[redeco]] of the original ''[[Beast Wars]]'' [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] toy. This, presumably, was to have been Nightprowler, as the other toys in the group line up with the names given for the two Halloween sets. The toy would have transformed from snow leopard to robot, with two guns, one being a water squirter. As he was to come in a "Vs." two-pack with the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] character [[Waspinator]], it is presumed that he was to be an [[Autobot]].
