I was quite surprised that nobody had done this article yet so I thought I’d have a go. Given the potential arguments that this topic might cause, I have tried to be as uncontroversial as possible and stick to the ‘facts’.

I have never heard of (and been unable to find) any official canon policy from Hasbro (beyond the Universe thing mentioned in the article) and so until someone enlightens me otherwise I assumed that there isn’t one.

There is a G1 bias to the article as that’s where my knowledge mainly lies so someone might want to add in some later stuff for balance.
I look forward to the inevitable rewrites.Omnisvalidus 20:19, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
:The main reason you've not been able to find any offical canon policy from Hasbro is that there is none. Even after Optimus Primal and Megatron had left prehistoric Earth, there was still war to be had. Tarantulas and Ravage, both surprisingly not dead, gathered a small army. They harvested Predacons from the Maximal stasis pods left behind. One of these Predacons was a Transmetal 2 Spittor. He would fire the first shot in this new altercation, scuffling with the also-not-dead Tigatron and Airazor. Primeval Dawn, Part 2
Sometime later, Spittor must have made peace with the Maximals, because he returned to Cybertron along with his former enemies, Primal Prime, Tigatron, and Ramulus. As a member of the Wreckers, he fought Megatron's control of Cybertron.
Shortly after The Wreckers rescued Optimus Primal and Nightscream from some Tank Drones, they were assigned a vague mission by the Oracle. Spittor, Primal Prime, and Fractyl met up with Rodimus and Arcee (Spittor playfully annoying Fractyl along the way). They then rendezvoused with the others. After a fierce battle with some Vehicons, the group boards an Autobot shuttle. The Wreckers: Departure

Shortly after takeoff, however, Spittor and some others were ambushed by Devcon. Rodimus conviced the former peace marshal to calm down, and Spittor went off to recuperate. Not long after the scuffle, the section of the ship holding Spittor, Sonar, and the Deployers suffered an explosion. Packrat choose to detonate that section rather than risk the whole ship's destruction. Thus, Spittor's life was cut short.
Upon arrival, Magmatron sent the others to watch over the stasis pods as they were activated. While the rest of his teammates witnessed the births of new Predacons, Spittor did not. He got to greet Polar Claw, a Maximal, who summarily squashed Spittor. The Gathering, Part 1
Because of this, Razorbeast, who had activated the pods, was revealed as a Maximal spy. More Maximals spilled forth, and a new Beast War was at hand.
While the rest of the new Predacon army sought to quell the new Maximal army, Drill Bit and Spittor, along with Magmatron, hunted down Razorbeast. Spittor got the drop on Ramulus, using his poison tongue to knock the mountain-dwelling Maximal off a cliff. The Gathering, Part 2
Later, when the Predacons located the Maximal base, Spittor was among the attackers. He and his cohorts had their enemies outnumbered, but a new squad of Maximals arrived just in time. Spittor was easily thwarted by a sweep of Torca's tusks. The Gathering, Part 4

A term coined by the fandom, Gold Plastic Syndrome (commonly shorthanded to GPS) is used to describe the phenomenon of a toy's plastic decomposing and becoming brittle to the point of shattering or crumbling under minimal-stress conditions. This is different from the relatively more common stress-fracture type of plastic breakage that can occur in some Transformers toys. All noted instances of GPS have occured in hard, glossy gold-colored plastics that appear to have a "swirl" to their coloraton.

GPS is notably widespread among toys made in the tail-end of Generation 1, typically the second year of Pretenders and even some European-market exclusives, but examples have surfaced from lines as recent as Generation 2 and the Beast Wars series. Transformers toys are not the only ones to suffer from this; there have been reports of G.I. Joe and Visionaries toys' gold plastics also crumbling seemingly of their own accord.

The cause of GPS
GPS misconceptions
The most common misconception about GPS is that all gold-colored plastic can suffer from this rot. Only certain plastic grades (described above) have been noted to be susceptible to GPS crumbling; in the past few years, more durable, pliable plastics have become the norm for toy construction, so the gold plastic on more recent toys like Cannonball are highly unlikely to have the flaw.

Also, not every type of plastic breakage is the kind caused by GPS. In most instances of broken toys, visible stress marks appear long before any breakage in the form of discoloration (since these plastics havea bit more "give" to them), and are typically very clean "snaps" due to excess pressure. GPS breakages seemingly come from simple decomposition of the plastic without any form of excess force at all, and the breaks tend to leave shards of plastic and dust.

* Electro
* Beast Wars Grimlock
* Pretender Monsters Bristleback and Slog
* Generation 1 Roadblock
* Skyhammer
* Generation 2 Slingshot
* Serpentor, while not a Transformer, is also known to suffer from this problem.
