{{disambig3|Silverbolt}}{{picsneeded|Toys}}
:''Silverbolt is a [[Maximal]] from the [[Beast Era]] portion of the [[Generation 1]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Silverboltfuzor.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Strong, sleek, swift and stupid.]]

"Pure, strong, and fast," '''Silverbolt'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s sense of right and wrong is so overdeveloped his fellow Maximals wonder if his programming has a glitch. He speaks in platitudes that speak to chivalry, justice, and cheesy heroic ideals, and he has been known to give speeches that make even [[Optimus Primal]] roll his optics. His conviction is both his strength and his weakness. He sees the world in black and white (and no, that's not just because his beast mode is partly canine).

The only gray area for Silverbolt is [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]]. His fierce love for the "evil" [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] causes him to question his preconceived notions of right and wrong. He was very proud of his ability to convert Blackarachnia to the Maximals, and, though most of the Maximals are skeptical of her loyalty to the cause and to him, he has nothing but faith in her.

{{quote|Though threatening your own comrade is no doubt business as usual in the Predacon guide to villainy... it is simply unacceptable behavior in ''my'' book! |Silverbolt|"[[Bad Spark]]"}}
===Beast Wars===
:''Voice Actor:'' [[Scott McNeil]] (English), [[Mitsuo Iwata]] (Japanese), [[Bruno Rocha]] (Portuguese)

[[Image:BWSilverbolt_Blackarachnia_OptimalSituation.jpg|thumb|left|200px|MENNNNDOOOOOZAAA!!!]]

The explosion caused by the destruction of the [[Vok]] [[Planet Buster]] sent all stasis pods crashing to Earth. Some pods' scanners were damaged in the shockwave and eventual crash landing, and the resulting in the Fuzors, a blend of two beast forms and the advanced Transmetal technology. {{Storylink|Aftermath}}

One of these Fuzors was the winged-wolf Silverbolt, whose neighbor was the violent, psychotic cobra-scorpion [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], the latter immediately picking a fight with the peaceful Silverbolt. The fight was interrupted by [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] who tricked both Fuzors and recruited them into the Predacons. Silverbolt felt the faction's activation code and Megatron's orders to attack the passing [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] to be distasteful, to the furious punishment of the Predacon leader. Soon, he and the other Predacons faced the remaining Maximals in battle. {{Storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}}

However, Silverbolt felt out of place with so treacherous and cruel a group. After witnessing Maximal compassion and [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]]'s own admission of defection, he made an important decision and joined the Maximals, saving the newly reborn [[Optimus Primal]] from Megatron. {{Storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 2)}}

Soon afterwards, while on patrol with the much more laid-back [[Rattrap]] (who spent alot of the time pointedly ignoring Silverbolt's lines of honor and virtue) , Silverbolt encountered the alluring Blackarachnia when [[Tarantulas]] and Quickstrike were attempting to set up a forward base. She was somewhat surprised by his complete refusal to strike her simply because she was a female, using it to her advantage to attack him. However, the Maximal had no such compunction against fighting the coarse Quickstrike. {{Storylink|Tangled Web}}

Soon, Silverbolt found himself reluctantly sneaking off to aide Blackarachnia in constructing a small airship out of the fallen Stasis Pod. When it was complete, she ran off at first word of the ''[[Ark]]'' being discovered, Silverbolt in tow. He pleaded with her to join the Maximals, and - even after shooting him in the thigh - refused to leave until she did.

When Megatron arrived, Silverbolt was the playing card to convince Blackarachnia to open the doors to the Ark and allow him inside. Soon after, When [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] was injured enough to cause the time storm, Blackarachnia used Silverbolt to put everything right, and defected to the Maximals soon after.

Most of the time thereafter, Silverbolt stayed by Blackarachnia's side, more than happy that the subterfuge was over. He was extremely pleased when Blackarachnia was converted fully into a Maximal (and a Transmetal 2, as well).

===Beast Machines===
:'''Voice Actor:''' [[Scott McNeil]] (US), [[Mitsuo Iwata]] (Japan), [[Marcus Jardym]] (Brazil)

When the Maximals found themselves back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] running for their lives from armies of [[Vehicon]] drones, their memories of their past had been tampered with. Even [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] could not remember Silverbolt fully until she hacked into the memory backup on their ship.

[[Image:Silverboltjetstorm.jpg|right|thumb|Sadly, this was the coolest Silverbolt would get in Beast Machines...]]

Blackarachnia began to suspect that Silverbolt's [[spark]] may be inside one of the Vehicon Generals. At first, she erroneously thought it was inside [[Thrust (BM)|Thrust]], but after a mishap with some technorganic goop, Silverbolt's spark was proven to be inside [[Jetstorm (BM)|Jetstorm]] (and Thrust turned out to be [[Waspinator]], whose amorous advances were tragically spurned by the arachnid chick). For a precious few moments, Silverbolt's consciousness was completely awoken within Jetstorm's body, reverting to his old personality, until the goop was absorbed completely and Jetstorm's [[shell program]] reasserted itself.

Obsessed with bringing Silverbolt back, she hounded Jetstorm, demanding he remember their shared love and return to the Maximals. Needless to say, Jetstorm was vexed by this. But when [[Rattrap]] created a gizmo that would help them transfer the stolen Transformer sparks into new bodies, Blackarachnia stole it. Leading Jetstorm into the planet's organic core, she attached the gizmo to his back and trapped the Vehicon in a pool of the technorganic goop with her webs. After much screaming, reformatting, and brilliant light, Silverbolt was reborn as a condor, having scanned skeletal remains inside the cavern in the process.

[[Image:Silverboltbm.jpg|left|thumb|...for he later became the World's Deadliest Peacock!]]

Counter to Blackarachnia's expectations, Silverbolt was not pleased. Gone was the Maximal who exemplified honor and chivalry, replaced with only a desire for retribution and vengeance. "I was a fool back then," he frowns, "I ''believed'' in things." Distraught, Blackarachnia managed to convince him to come along with her to help rescue [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] from inside [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]'s [[Grand Mal|Big Floating Head]], but Silverbolt did not accompany her for their friends -- he was not interested in them. He went to confront Megatron.

Megatron, seeing that his General had been reformatted into a Maximal, tried to seduce Silverbolt back to his side. Silverbolt was told he was a creature of honor who fought for just causes, and that Megatron gave Silverbolt not only a just cause (the technological purity of Cybertron), but also the power and strength to fight for that cause. Blackarachnia countered at every point, pleading with Silverbolt to remember their love and friendship. Silverbolt was not even paying attention to her, and finally answers Megatron bitterly: "You gave me ''nothing''." Silverbolt, with nearly insane fury, let loose a volley of feather bombs, disrupting Megatron from within. Cheetor and Primal were rescued, and Silverbolt was dragged away from the battle.

Slightly calmed, Silverbolt was later approached by Blackarachnia. He confided in her the real reason for his anger. It was not what Megatron had done to him, but that he was freed from his code of honor and he ''enjoyed'' the experience. He did not trust himself any longer. This did not deter Blackarachnia. She believed, no matter what, that Silverbolt had goodness in his heart.

As time went on, Silverbolt began to become more comfortable with his past. With the final defeat of Megatron and the reformatting of Cybertron, his old personality reemerged&mdash;only to ruin it by saying the corniest line he could think of. And more power to him.

===Universe===
====Pack-in/CD-ROM comic====
Silverbolt followed Optimus Primal in fighting against [[Reptilion]] and his Decepticon forces. He engaged [[Razorclaw (Universe)|Razorclaw]] in combat, but was probably defeated by him as the latter moved on to fight [[Striker]]. After the Decepticons were abducted by Unicron's ship, Silverbolt asked his leader just what that thing was. {{storylink|Universe CD-ROM}}

====3H Universe comics====
[[Image:Silverbolt_tfu.jpg|thumb|right|Angsty Redux]]

One year after [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s Great Reformatting, five great Autobot heroes ([[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]], [[Sunstreaker]], [[Trailbreaker]], [[Shadow Striker]], and [[Roulette]]) returned home to a peaceful planet. Amidst a media blitz and celebration, Silverbolt, [[Blackarachnia]], [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], and [[Rattrap]] were among the Maximals to greet them.

However, what appeared to be celebratory fireworks struck Silverbolt and Blackarachnia and also the five Autobots. They were transported to the firey [[Pit]] deep within [[Unicron]], where all but Trailbreaker were rebuilt painfully into new bodies. Silverbolt was piece-by-piece reassembled into a version of his original [[Fuzor]] form.

Seeing an arena up ahead, the seven moved towards it, only to be attacked by a swarm of shape-shifting lava-like creatures. Silverbolt and the others were overwhelmed and taken into the arena (or, the [[Cauldron]]), where they were caged along with a multitude of Transformers kidnapped from across the multiverse.

During this time Blackarachnia was corrupted by Unicron to become one of his warriors. Silverbolt vowed to bring her back to the light again as she has done for him.

When the whole place went to pot after the formation of the [[Unicron Singularity]], Silverbolt escaped with the rest of the prisoners, taking Blackarachnia with him. Presumably they returned to their own time and universe.
===Beast Wars===
*'''Silverbolt''' (Deluxe Fuzor, 1998)

: Part of the first wave of [[Fuzor]]s, Silverbolt transforms into a wolf with the wings, fore-legs and tail of an eagle. In either mode, pulling his tail activates a spring-loaded "wing flap" gimmick. Moving the wings far enough forward triggers their built-in spring-loaded missile launchers. Silverbolt's missiles are also designed to be held in his hands like clubs.

: For his Japanese release as part of ''Beast Wars Metals'', Silverbolt's silver was made much much brighter.
: This mold was used to make [[BotCon 1999]]'s [[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor]].

{{-}}
==Trivia==
* In the Japanese dub of Beast Wars, Silverbolt was not portrayed as a stereotypical "Knight in shining armor" as he was in the West. Instead, his unique character quirk was that he was ''psychotically polite'' and always happy no matter what. Even in that one scene in [[Optimal Situation]] where he thought Blackarachnia was dead. [[Frag|F**k]]ers. He ended nearly every sentence in a loud, stressed '''"desu!"''' which made every sentence of his needlessly over-polite. Suiseiseki would be proud.
\
* Silverbolt's line in Beast Wars ("I think my name is... Silverbolt") mimics the original [[Silverbolt (G1)|Silverbolt]]'s first line.

* Many fans have taken to giving the ''Beast Machines'' Silverbolt toy a four-legged "griffon" alt-mode rather than the official "condor" mode.

* According to various [[Hasbro]] representatives, ''Universe'' Silverbolt's colors (and those of pretty much the entire first wave of ''Universe'' product) were done by Hasbro employees from outside the ''Transformers'' team.

* Silverbolt's robot mode in Beast Machines was heavily designed after a traditional Japanese samurai.

* Silverbolt was the only Beast Wars character besides Megatron to completely change his animal form, first being a wolf/eagle hybrid, later becoming a condor.

* According to one of the [[Steven Melching|writers]] commentaries on one his [[Endgame Pt. II: When Legends Fall|episodes]] that he made the changed to Silverbolt based on the evolution of the Adam West Batman into the Dark Knight.
In my edit I removed a statement that the technorganic healing abilities function better/faster in robot mode than in beast mode. Walky and I have no recollection of this. I'm inclined to think that, if they worked better in one mode than the other, it would have been the beast mode. Does anyone know whether this robot-healing thing was ever established someplace? It should be cited if it's put back in. --[[User:Steve-o|Steve-o]] 16:54, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

:My rough notes from watching through BM a couple years ago include the following:
:''BM Maximnals cannot use CR chambers. However-- BM's robot modes DO exert biologicly-enhanced nanosurgical capabilities, allowing them to quickheal, like Nightscream did his wing. They heal faster in ROBOT MODE
:It's from... uh... revelations? (My next note in order is the Diagnostic Drone recognizing Tankor's old personality.)
: note that Nightscream has th ability to quickheal even FASTER than the other Maximals when he's doing his vampire thing-- so I speculate their self-repair abilities are linked to their robot modes being at a higher 'energy level'. -[[User:Derik|Derik]] 23:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
==Technorganic transforming==
Technorganic transforming's not entirely a shapeshifting-style transformation. Watch Primal's transformation in the premiere episode, and you can see how the "energy" merely changes the shape of his limbs. After that, recessed panels slide out. I belive this should go in the article as well. [[User:Darktruth|Darktruth]] 15:39, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
==Where is this stuff coming from??==
This article's got some rather oddly-phrased conclusions in it, taking single examples from the cartoon and unsupportably stating that they are illustrations of larger, well-known principles:
* ''Rather the spark appears simply to be diffused throughout the body and coalesces in the center of the chest or floats just outside of it when made to appear.''
* ''Close contact and ingestion of anything purely organic will tilt their minds toward their primitive, "organic" side. ''
* ''their greatest weakness lies in the perfect but fragile balance between the two opposing sides of their nature.''
I'd purge it all myself, but I wanna make sure there's not some outside source that's stating all this more clearly than the events of the cartoon did. Also, am I the only one who finds this article way too long and rambling in its current state? -- [[User:Repowers|Repowers]] 15:43, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
==Massive purge==
Hi guys. Look, I really don't want to get in a big argument here, as I have neither the time nor inclination, but I have to say I'm pretty miffed at the total slash & burn that's been done to the new sections I created. I know this is a wiki that anyone is free to edit, but given that you were clearly aware that I was pretty much the sole creator of the material from "Usage Problems", it would've been polite to at least ''discuss'' it a bit more first, don't you think?

Although I totally agree there was a great need for story links and concrete examples (and I appreciate you chaps adding them) and the prexisting material certainly needed tweaking, I really don't see that it was neccessary to pretty much annihilate all the new material that was already there...! The complaint about "speculation" is noted, but a] it was all clearly phrased as such, and b] there are plenty of instances on this wiki of logic-driven speculation which openly attempts to address canon ambiguities by suggestion theoretical explanations.

After all, it ''is'' a pretty big Question Mark/Elephant in The Room for the whole ''Beast Era'', don't you think? If the ''Beast Wars''-era characters were already genuinely organic, then what's the point of becoming '''Technorganics''' in ''Beast Machines''? On that basis alone I think the "Cyborgs or DNA Data" section is worthy of inclusion, as it is ''clearly'' an interrogative extrapolation which is not asserting any canonicity. The simple fact that there ''is'' such uncertainty merits such subsections, surely?

And at any rate, regardless of the organic/inorganic uncertainty, it is very clear from ''Beast Machines'' that anything pior to ''BM'' is definitely '''not''' technorganic as per the ''BM'' definition, and thus the term's use in reference texts when applied to ''Beast Wars'' characters is erroneous.

I really believe these things bear more in-depth treatment in the article, regardless of whether they're my original words or not.

As it stands now, I think the article is worse off, I really do. I think it is worthwhile having some material on the article that discusses the nature of pre-''BM'' beast modes, rather than just a stack of piecemeal examples that don't really lead to anything. (Also, completely removing the reference to the uncertain status of [[Jungle Planet]] inhabitents seems a questionable deletion.)

Perhaps a compromise would be in order. Might I suggest a negotiated, more concise (if neccessary) version of the previous text, enhanced by integrating your excellent examples & story links? Alternatively, what about creating a separate, linked article about "Beast Modes"...?

:A lot of what I removed was simply overlong wordiness -- using 100 words to say could be summed up in 10. When my eyes glaze up and start to skip over entire paragraphs, it's my personal litmus test for something that needs heavy re-writing -- usually to have its central idea plucked out and everything else discarded.

:Furthermore, some of it was flat-out incorrect (ie: the BW guys weren't organic, when there's all kinds of evidence that they were), and then more still was unfounded fan theorizing (cyborgs, etc.) only necessary because of that position.

:Likewise for the position that the BM use of the term is the right one, and all subsequent uses are wrong -- the guidebooks are canon, they said what they said, and we're not really supposed to be picking and chosing our canon here. They use the term differently than the show did; the article as it stands notes that difference, and moves on. The "piecemeal" results may not be very rational or aesthetically pleasing, but the wiki is not the place for Grand Unified Fan Theories trying to tie it all together.

:I don't think I cut out any content from the article that's directly supported by the canon, and everything that's in there now ''is'' supported by concrete examples. Sometimes extrapolation and speculation are reasonable -- <strike>see [[Snarler]]'s origin for a good example, IMO; there's no conjecture, just a listing of three clear, obvious possibilities that don't require making anything up.</strike> (''Crap, guess I never changed that page per the Talk page discussion. Oops.'') But there are ''limits''.

:The article is already ''very'' long as is (as noted above, I'm not alone in thinking so.) The entire "Usage" section could be nuked and I wouldn't be too bothered, as it's tangential at best to the actual ''Beast Machines''-centered content of the page. -- [[User:Repowers|Repowers]] 06:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
::I'm not sure why we need to note the Jungle Planet guys. They're irrelevant to the topic and their only (tangential) connection is that they take the form of animals. [[User:Interrobang|—Interrobang]] 06:35, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
::I'm completely in agreement with Repowers. I looked at the old article, and it was a long, unreadable, rambling mess with lots of fanon. The cropping done is for the better. And I also agree that the Jungle Planet guys are completely irellevant to the matter, and bringing them up at all only serves to pointlessly muddy the waters based on nothing canon. --[[User:M Sipher|M Sipher]] 16:11, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
== Why did Primal's team need to go through the Beast Wars just to acquire beast modes? ==

In the article the question was raised why did Primal's team need to go through the Beast Wars just to acquire beast modes? My thought for the answer: they didn't. When they discovered the Oracle in the first episode it said "At long last, the receptive Spark.". The idea could be that Primal need to go through temporarily going to the matrix and carrying Prime's spark to become able to be receptive to the will of the Matrix which he pass on to the others near the end.<div id="wikia-credits"><br /><br /><small>From [http://transformers.wikia.com Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki], a [http://www.wikia.com Wikia] wiki.</small></div>

A '''shell program''' is a [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]]-designed personality altering program that can be installed within a Transformer to change the way they act. A shell program can even compel a Transformer to behave in ways diametrically opposed to what they would do without the shell program.
Upon the landing of each [[stasis pod]], the [[Maximal]]s and Predacons would both rush to the scene in hopes of recruiting the [[protoform]] inside to their team. The protoforms were Maximals by default, but the Predacons were able to turn some by implanting shell programs before waking the protoform up. [[Blackarachnia]] and [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] joined the Predacons through this scheme. ([[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] joined without being reprogrammed.) Rhinox's brief stint as a Predacon was not explicitly explained, but may have also been the result of a shell program. {{storylink|Dark Designs}}

Eventually, despite her shell program, Blackarachnia decided to side with the Maximals. When hidden code in her shell program began to threaten her life, the Maximals attempted to remove it entirely, a procedure which was very dangerous for her. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] then conducted a strange kind of virtual, videogame-style "search and destroy" mission within Blackarachnia to accomplish this. Sadly, a safeguard that [[Tarantulas]] included in the program terminated her before Rhinox could finish the removal. (She was then revived "magically" by the [[Transmetal driver]].)
[[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] utilized the sparks of [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]], [[Waspinator]], and [[Rhinox]] to power shell programs giving life to the original three [[Vehicon general]]s. Each of these programs seemed to have personalities the exact opposite of the spark (i.e. Thrust a dark, brooding type as opposed to Waspinator's wimpy personality.) [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika (BM)|Strika]], however, did not appear to be altered in this manner.
