While he typically crafts his strategies to exclude his direct involvement, Onslaught is no coward. When required, he will engage in battle with strength, cunning and earthquaking fury. This darker, more brutish side of Onslaught might lead some [[Decepticon]]s into thinking he has a secret blood-lust stashed away in his circuits. But truth be told, he's really just ticked off that his plans didn't work out the way they were supposed to.

Onslaught is the leader of the Combaticons, ''one of the [[Special Teams]] foretold by the Matrix''. It is assumed he was constructed on Earth, but this is contradicted by ''Generation 2'' which hinted that Onslaught is the creator of the Cybertronian [[Mindset]]. Whichever the case may be, Onslaught and his team were first seen on Earth in the ''[[Afterdeath!]]'' story, where Onslaught fought and lost to the Protectobots inside the Multi-World computer game.

''Later on, he led his team to kill [[Galvatron]] while he was trapped in a volcano, and Onslaught was the only Combaticon not taken down by [[Ladies' Night|a trio of human women]]. He would've killed them if the Throttlebots hadn't shown up as the cavalry. In response for that humiliation'', Onslaught and the Combaticons hunted the Throttlebots down. The [[Throttlebots]] were trapped in a used car lot and the Combaticons were forced to bid for them in an auction against RAAT and the Protectobots, but Onslaught cut through this by trying to have the lot's owner assassinated. RAAT would get the Throttlebots and the Combaticons were beaten by [[Blaster]].

Onslaught's shining moment came when [[Totaled!|he got to lead a massed Decepticon assault on the Autobots]], which came close to wiping them all out.

After [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] was booted from the [[Decepticon space cruiser|Decepticon base]] for attempting to overthrow Megatron (again), he decided to form his own army. Travelling to Cybertron via the [[Space Bridge]], he "liberated" renegade [[personality component]]s and placed them in [[human]] military vehicles left over from [[Earth]]'s second World War. At first, the newly-dubbed 'Combaticons' were hardly grateful to Starscream for their freedom until the Decepticon air commander revealed he had predicted their treachery and thus did not equip them with vital energy absorbers. Onslaught and his fellow Combaticons worked agreed to work with Starscream to overthrow Megatron on the promise of being given the vital components. Onslaught worked in capturing two [[Autobot]]s, though he got into an argument with [[Vortex]] over who was responsible for the act. Later, while recharging at a power station, Starscream's brigade was confronted by the Decepticons under Megatron's command. Anticipating that [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] might come into play, Starscream ordered Onslaught and the other Combaticons to merge into the dim-witted [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]]. '''Mega-Octane''' is the cool-headed commander of the [[Commando]]s. He orders his troops into battle with militaristic stoicism, as if they were his own limbs, but actually spends more of his time keeping the hot-headed [[Scourge (RID)|Scourge]] in check. Scourge claims to be leader of the small Decepticon faction, but in reality it is Mega-Octane who holds the group together. But all great bots have their personal quirks -- he is not satisfied unless he takes his bath before everyone else.

He merges with the other Commandos to form [[Ruination]], who he completely controls.

Mega-Octane is one of the many Decepticons under the command of [[Unicron]] in the ''[[Universe]]'' conflict, though at this time it is unknown if it is the "original" Mega-Octane or an alternate-universe incarnation.

: A [[retool]] of the ''[[Generation 1]]'' [[Onslaught]] toy, Mega-Octane transforms into a flatbed truck and trailer with a twin-barreled cannon. The twin-barreled cannon has a hole to store his large rifle in vehicle/base mode as well as his retooled ramp (which can also be held in his hand as a shield) in robot or combined mode (This hole was actually added for Generation 2 Onslaught to hold his missile launcher). As the toy uses the [[Scramble City]] style of connection, he can form the torso to any combination of similar robots, though naturally he is normally the torso to the combined robot [[Ruination]]. He also came with the combiner [[kibble]] to Ruination.

: He was first released as part of the [[Takara]] ''Car Robots'' line in 2000. In 2001, [[Hasbro]] released the toy as part of the ''Robots in Disguise'' series. There are several very noteworthy differences between the two. The Takara version uses a very light olive-green base plastic, mustard-gold plastic for the robot chest, cannons and combiner kibble, plus the black-and-gold camouflage is sometimes done as metallic decals, one of which has the "Anti-Cybertron" symbol on it. The Hasbro version uses a much darker green plastic, silver-gray chest/cannon/kibble plastic, muddy-tan-and-black camo (in the same pattern), uses no decals (leaving those areas blank), and has a Decepticon insignia on the truck roof. Additionally, Hasbro shortened the length of Mega-Octane's rifle, and all subsequent releases of this toy from Hasbro or Takara/[[Sonokong]] used this version of the tooling.
