Early in the war, the [[Magnificent Six]] were engaging in hit-and-run raids in Decepticon controlled territory of [[Stanix]]. They became pinned down for a Cybertronian week by [[Megadeath (G1)|Megadeath]]'s elite guard commanded by [[Thunderwing (G1)|Thunderwing]]. Stampede had nearly lost all of his composure from the strain of battle when the group decided to go on the offensive. It appeared that the Decepticons had retreated, but it turned out to be a ruse. In reality the Autobots had been betrayed by the [[neutral]]s they were defending. They were all captured by Megadeath.

Megadeath forced Stampede to watch as he tortured the other Autobots. Stampede broke down after the third day and begged to be included with his teammates, but Megadeath continued. On the seventh day he gathered the Autobots together. He gave all of them blasters except Stampede. He announced he was going to kill Stampede unless one of the Autobots used their blaster to kill him. The Autobots were too shell shocked to make a move and Megadeath killed Stampede. Megadeath let the rest of the Autobots go, figuring they were now useless as warriors. The surviving Autobots lived with this secret shame until they were forced to confront it on a mission back to Stanix. {{storylink|The Magnificent Six!}}
