==Detailed synopsis==
While digging for Mayan artifacts in South America, a group of archeologists stumbled upon an ancient spacecraft. As news of the discovery was broadcast on the news, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] recognized it as the ''Nemesis'', the [[Nemesis (G1)|Decepticon ship]] they had travelled to Earth in four million years ago. Megatron stated that there was something on that ship which he wanted, and set out to get it.

Meanwhile, at the [[Autobot]]s' [[Ark (G1)|HQ]], [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] was using a shrinking-enlarging device to repair one of [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide's]] memory chips while being insulted by [[Brawn]] for not being a soldier. [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] walked in and tried to make him stop, when [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] ordered Brawn and Bumblebee to follow him to South America along with [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], to stop Megatron from obtaining what he wanted.

As Megatron's troops blasted their way through a rainforest in order to avoid satellite detection, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] managed to miss a tree and was attacked by a giant snake, to the amusement of Rumble. Meanwhile, Ravage met his match in the form of a real Jaguar. The Autobots arrived and decided not to burn the forest down, because Optimus says "that's not our style".

Megatron got through the forest first, and reached the ship. Blasting it open, he retrieved the ship's energy core, the [[Heart of Cybertron]]. [[Hook]] implanted it into Megatron's torso, vastly increasing his power level. Optimus Prime then arrived and ordered the Autobots to attack, but they were all defeated by Megatron's new ability to continously fire energy from his fingertips. The Autobots only managed to escape by destroying a hill, burying the Decepticons under rubble.

While Optimus Primce created a force-field to keep Megatron at bay, Perceptor created a plan to shrink himself, Brawn and Bumblebee to microscopic sizes in order to infiltrate Megatron's body and disconnect the Heart of Cybertron.

Meanwhile, the Decepticons sat around and got <s>intoxicated</s> overchaged on [[energon]]. After Megatron rambled on about the "good ol' days" and passed out, [[Powerglide]] delivered the tiny Autobots into his body. This caused him to wake up and go to destroy the Autobots himself, as the rest of his forces couldn't stay on their feet.

Perceptor, Brawn and Bumblebee made their way through Megatron's body, avoiding his [[electro-sanitizer]]s and riding his [[evil brain impulse]]s. They eventually reached the Heart of Cybertron, disconnected it, and got out of Megatron just as the shrink-ray was wearing off. Brawn threw the Heart 2000 miles into the sky, at which point Perceptor blasted it. After this, Brawn showed much more respect for Perceptor.

* This episode is perhaps the only one to show drunken Decepticons. Which is a real bummer, because they make funny, happy drunks.
* The pulsating sound heard when Perceptor and company approach the Heart of Cybertron within Megatron is the same one used aboard the Dalek spaceships on all episodes of Doctor Who since 1964.
*Megatron apparently has a wristwatch on his left wrist, which he looks at while flying around (causing concern for the Autobots within his shoulder joints).
* At one point, Brawn proposes killing Megatron from the inside. Perceptor stops him, saying that if he fell while flying, the impact could detonate the Heart of Cybertron. Once Megatron's landed, this wouldn't seem to be a concern anymore, but the Autobots still choose to remove the Heart of Cybertron rather than bashing brains. Brawl (here named "Devastator") was known as [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron's]] "pet weapon of mass destruction". He follows a single guiding principle - "keep it ''stupid''... simple!"

Megatron threw him at the Autobots so he could reach the [[AllSpark]], and had armed him with a foldspace warhead. When the Autobots pointed out that at this range, the warhead would take him out as well, he replied "Eh. So?" and fired anyway. He loves a good explosion ''that much''. {{Storylink|Transformers Comic issue 2}}

Devastator ended up warped to an uninhabited world covered with cities, and out of sheer boredom went around smashing a lot of it before he realized he should try getting off the planet. The mysterious Flame, a power source that drove the planet's inhabitants to murder, tried to influence his mind towards rampaging until his fuel ran out; as he got nearer to it, it created apparitions of the other Decepticons that taunted him for his stupidity and attacked him. This failed to influence him as it would require Devastator to have introspection and care about being stupid - instead, he simply carried on to the Flame and left the planet, showing no interest in anything beyond doing his job. {{Storylink|Transformers Comic issue 4}}

When Starscream excitedly declared that he must go to the cube, Brawl questioned his loyalty, prompting [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]] to threaten the latter with violence lest he not take the group to Megatron. After witnessing Megatron leave Cybertron to chase after the escaping All Spark, the Decepticons followed.

Crash-landing on [[Earth]] many years later, the Decepticons were detected by a nearby [[United States Military|US air base]], which sent an armoured personnel carrier to investigate. Brawl took the words right out of Bonecrusher's mouth, remaking that at last there was something to kill. Brawl, [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]] and Starscream were hiding out in a human military installation in the desert when they received word that [[Frenzy (Movie)|Frenzy]] and [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]] had discovered the location of the [[AllSpark]]. When the three Decepticons mobilized, the two ground-based machines were assaulted by tanks designed to fire holding beams of electrical energy, forcing Starscream to back-and-forth babysit the two Decepticons as they tried to escape.

Brawl later stood by [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron's ]] side in Washington D.C. after they had retrieved the AllSpark from the destroyed Autobots and had decimated pretty much everything in their path.

Brawl appears at the Hoover Dam after successfully defusing several bombs intended to free Megatron. As Optimus Prime attempts to rendezvous with the other Autobots, Brawl blocks his only path — a hidden Air Force hangar tunneled into the canyon. During the fight, Brawl produces a pair of Tank Drones that regenerate when destroyed. He fights with his claw and multitude of guns, and when he's taken enough damage will retreat into his shell, a la tank mode. Here he becomes nearly invincible, with his only weakness being the drones scattered around the arena.

Brawl first appears in Qatar, where, under the command of [[Create-A-Bot (Decepticon)|a Create-A-Bot]], he is commanded to prevent a convoy from entering a nearby village (recognizable by moviegoers as the town where Lennox fought [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]]) to prevent the humans from getting an upper hand over the [[N.B.E.]]s. At the Hoover Dam, he is sent to capture a human tank, which he retrieves intact so as to interrogate the occupant human. Once the interrogation is done, the tank doesn't stay intact long, as he can be seen merrily destroying it while Create-A-Bot converses with [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]]. Later, he faces off against [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] in a 1-on-1 street brawl involving an apparent grudge over a past encounter.

Brawl (also named "Devastator" here) was lying in wait at a military depot when Starscream contacted the Decepticon infiltration team, informing them that the All Spark had been found and they were to move out. Devastator acknowledged that he was in transit and rolled out of the depot. He met up with [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]] and [[Bonecrusher (Movie)|Bonecrusher]] and hit the highway, though Devastator separated from the group before Barricade and Bonecrusher got on the freeway and met up with Autobot/human convoy.

Arriving at [[Mission City]] in the aftermath of Starscream's opening attack on the Autobots and their [[William Lennox|human]] [[Robert Epps|allies]], Devastator fired shells from his main gun, narrowly missing several targets before running over vehicles abandoned by human bystanders. As the American soldiers fanned out in search of cover, the Autobots charged Devastator. He focused his attacks on [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]], who was forced to somersault over his shells. This distraction allowed the Autobot Jazz to jump on top of Devastator and point his cannon away from the humans. Devastator managed to transform and throw the smaller Autobot off him, but not before Jazz destroyed his left side rocket launcher pod.

Damaged, but not down, Devastator fired two rockets from his remaining launcher, missing the heavily armed Autobot as he somersaulted over the missiles. Ironhide and Jazz managed to fire several shots at Devastator, disorienting him. [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] followed up by using his buzzsaw to slice off Devastator's left arm. The humans then fired a volley of sabot rounds while Ratchet supported with suppressive fire, knocking Devastator to the ground. The only thing that saved him was the Autobots and humans' retreat at the arrival of [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]. Eventually, Ironhide and Ratchet disengaged from the battle as they left to protect [[Sam Witwicky|ladiesman217]], who was escaping with the All Spark, while Jazz took on Megatron. Now with fewer targets to deal with, Devastator sprayed heavy machine gun fire at the remaining humans, whose leader remarked that the battle was not going well.

Devastator continued to pin down the soldiers until the damaged Autobot [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] suddenly attacked while on the back of of a tow truck driven by Ladiesman217's [[Mikaela Banes|female companion]]. Devastator tried to return fire, only for his gattling gun to be destroyed by Bumblebee's [[plasma cannon]]. With the Autobot's return to battle being the deciding factor, the human soldiers rallied and fired more sabots, piercing Devastator's armor until a final shot from Bumblebee struck Devastator's spark and killed him. Devastator died as he lived: destroying things, for his chassis crashed into the building the human soliders had taken refuge in.

Devastator's body was dumped into the deepest part of the ocean along with his fellow Decepticons, in the hopes the intense pressure and cold will destroy whatever remained.{{Storylink|Transformers (2007)}}

In the final battle Brawl was not killed, but saturated with power from the AllSpark and freed from the influence of Megatron. He disappeared into the rugged land around the Hoover Dam. Making his way over the course of months to the most troubled spot on Earth (presumably the Middle East), he adapted his vehicle mode to the new environment, went to ground and waited. Brawl now gains up energy from the blazing sun, and emerges only to satisfy his hunger for destruction by attacking and annihilating human convoys and armored columns. To those living in the region, he has become a myth, but to those few who survive his attacks he is an all too real monster. Second, pressing the headlights on either side of the front end causes the paneling to swing back into place. Finally, Brawl has automorph weapons on each of his forearms - his right arm has a quadruple-barrelled cannon that extended as you slide a switch formward, while his left features a swing-out claw, deployed by pulling back the arm's cannon.

:Other features include lights and sounds, activated by pushing back on the main cannon or turning the upper turret. A pair of blades can also swing down from the legs. Although taken from Brawl's concept art, they aren't implemented particularly well; the art shows them jutting forward at a 45-degree angle from the legs, but nothing on the toy impedes the blades from swinging straight down to the ground, right into his feet. They're completely undocumented anywhere on the box or instructions, probably out of embarrassment.

:Due to the shape of his feet and the weight of the parts on his back, Brawl is not very stable whilst standing on smooth surfaces. A way to rectify this is to transform his feet only partially, folding out the toes and heels but leaving the other parts alone in their block-like configuration.

Megatron discovers the All Spark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in the late 19th century. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the coordinates to the All Spark's location. Sector Seven, a secret organization of the United States government, discovers the All Spark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask its energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

In the present day, the rest of the Decepticons — Blackout, Scorponok, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Bonecrusher, and Devastator — have already landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles. Blackout and Scorponok attack the U.S. SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar in an effort to use the military database to discover the location of Megatron and the All Spark, but they do not succeed. A small group of survivors under Captain William Lennox wander through the desert and are followed by Scorponok. The Autonomous Robotic Organism (shortened to "Autobot") known as Bumblebee is also on Earth, disguised as a 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, and looking for Sam Witwicky, the descendant of Captain Archibald Witwicky. As soon as he locates Sam, the two quickly begin to bond as Bumblebee helps Sam try and woo his crush, Mikaela Banes. Sam is unaware of the fact that Bumblebee is an alien, until he witnesses Bumblebee transform and send out a homing signal for the rest of the Autobots.

At the Pentagon, Defense Secretary John Keller oversees the investigation into the attack in Qatar. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One and attempts to download the all information relating to "Project Iceman". However, Maggie Madsen, one of the technicians studying the Decepticon infiltration signal, discovers Frenzy's actions and convinces the Pentagon to take down the Defense Network, halting Frenzy's download. When Air Force One makes an emergency landing, Frenzy slips into Barricade, and discusses his discovery of Archibald Witwicky, who has seen [[Cybertronian languages|their language]]. Using an internet search, they discover that Sam's glasses will that will lead the Decepticons to the All Spark. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location. Back in Qatar, the army rangers are attacked by Scorponok, who take refugee in a nearby village. Calling the Pentagon and getting air support, they discover that the Decepticons are vulnerable to high heat weaponry such as sabot rounds. Using this information, the soldiers inform the Pentagon that they now have a weapon.

Barricade confronts Sam, demanding Archibald's glasses. Bumblebee, who is following Sam, transforms and battles Barricade. Mikaela, who is also following Sam, is caught in the crossfire, but Bumblebee is able to defeat Barricade, while Mikaela decapitates Frenzy, who is still functioning and hides in Mikaela's purse as her cellphone. Bumblebee takes Sam and Mikaela to rendezvous with the rest of the Autobots. The Autobots—Optimus Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet—land on Earth and take on the forms of several Earth vehicles. They all meet in a dark, secluded alley, transform in front of the two amazed humans, introduce themselves and tell of the reasons they had to come to Earth to Sam and Mikaela. Meanwhile, Maggie made a copy of the intrusion signal and shows it to her friend Glenn Whitmann, who discovers a message with the signal about Sector Seven, Captain Witwicky, and Project Iceman. However, the FBI arrest Glenn and Maggie, who desperately tries to convince them not to go to war with the wrong country.

Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots then return to Sam's home to retrieve the glasses. However, agents from Sector Seven arrive to take Sam and Mikaela into custody. Reggie Simmons, the agency's director, reveals that Mikaela has a criminal record and threatens Sam with life imprisonment, at which point the Autobots disable the convoy and rescue the teens. During the retreat, Sam and Mikaela are recaptured, and Bumblebee is also apprehended, against the pleas of Sam who assures the agents—to no avail—that he means them no harm. Prime orders the Autobots to let them go, unwilling to use deadly force against the humans. At the Pentagon, a virus Frenzy uploaded during the Air Force One hack causes a global communications blackout, while Keller is finally informed of the Decepticons. After Bumblebee's capture, Optimus uses the glasses locate the All Spark at Hoover Dam, and declares that if they cannot defeat the Decepticons, he will merge the Cube with his spark.

Sam, Mikaela, Keller, Maggie, Glenn, and Lennox's unit are brought to Hoover Dam, where they are shown the frozen Megatron and the All Spark, while Frenzy slips away. Locating the All Spark, he sends out an alert to Starscream, who mobilizes the the rest of the Decepticons. Due to Starscream's attack and Frenzy's sabotage, Megatron begins to revive, and Sam convinces the Sector Seven agents to release Bumblebee so that he can get the All Spark to Optimus Prime. The Decepticons chase the Autobots, who now possess the All Spark, into Mission City.

Glenn, Maggie, Keller, and Simmons manage to contact the Air Force and direct F22s to Mission City. An ensuing battle results in casualties for both sides, including Jazz, who is killed by Megatron, while Bumblebee is crippled in an explosion. As Lennox orders Sam to take the All Spark to a building to be removed from the city, under escort from Ironhide and Ratchet, Megatron and Optimus Prime battle, while the soldiers remain to fight Devastator. Mikaela drags the injured Bumlebee away from the battle with a tow truck, but goes back, with Bumblebee's weapons killing Devastator. Ironhide and Ratchet are incapacitated by Starscream, and Megatron joins the pursuit.

Sam's helicopter is destroyed by Starscream, and Prime challenges Megatron. The battle is fierce and dominated by Megatron. Blackout attempts to assist Megatron, but is killed by Lennox and the Air Force before he can engage. Starscream hides among a raptor squadron, destroying three fighters. Despite this, the Air Force and Lennox's rangers manage to inflict serious damage on Megatron, but he is still functional, and heading toward the Cube. Finally, with both Prime and Megatron weakened, Prime beckons Sam to shove the All Spark into his chest, destroying them both, but Sam instead takes the riskier action of shoving the All Spark into Megatron's chest.

The 2007 Transformers film has more than one 'cut.'

* The worldwide theatrical release was essentially identical all around the world with a few minor exceptions.
** The film board of Malaysia{{fact}} required [[Judy Witwicky]]'s masturbation reference be removed. However, no such change has been made and her lines were not omitted from the film.
* The [[Wikipedia:IMAX|IMAX]] edition of the movie features two minutes of additional footage in the form of slightly extended scenes and very brief new scenes. Added material includes the following:
**Before heading to the lake party, Sam is shown picking Miles up at his house. Miles derides Sam's choice of car colors.

==Prequel material==
Prior to the movie's release [[IDW]] Publishing released a four issue limited comic series entitled "[[Prime Directives]]", which chronicles the events which bring the Transformers to [[Earth]]. An animated version will be featured on the DVD.[http://tformers.com/Animated-Movie-Prequel-A-Movie-DVD-Bonus-Feature/8268/news.html] A novel, ''[[Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday]]'', is about the truth behind humankind's first venture into space and how that event is related to the Transformers' presence on Earth, both past and present.

Since the movie's plot brings the audience into things from Sam's POV, as he learns of not only the Transformers' war but mankind's past history with Cybertronians, the prequel material provides a better handle on the intricate storyline.

It should be noted, however, that some dialogue in the film contradicts the prequel material, specifically pertaining to the years in which the frozen Megatron was moved from the Arctic to Hoover Dam.

Included in a Wal-Mart 2-Disc exclusive of the Movie DVD is a bonus disc entitled ''Transformers Beginnings'' a not-really-animated animatic version of IDW's Prime Directives prequel comics, voiced by some of the actors from the movie, the game and a bunch of other people.

The movie set multiple records when it opened, including biggest opening week gross for a non-sequel ($155.4 million), biggest Tuesday release gross ($27.4 million), biggest July 4th gross ($29 million), and the biggest foreign film opening in mainland China ($3 million).

The movie closed domestically on November 8, 2007, during which time it took in $319,071,806. (Domestic gross accounted for $310,578,372 before the IMAX version's release.) As of November 15, 2007, it has earned a ''worldwide'' gross of $702,918,603. Critical reception was hit-and-miss, [http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/transformers_the_movie/ more positive than negative but not by a lot], though it's sometimes hard to tell how many negative reviewers were more interested in criticizing [[Michael Bay]] in general over the movie itself. Otherwise, the most common negatives involved it being a generally think-free "spectacle"-style movie; even those who rated the movie positively noted it was a pure "popcorn" movie meant to wow its audience with CGI and explosions rather than make them think (Richard Roper noted in his "thumbs up" review "it has no nutritional value"). Whether one considers that a good or bad thing for a movie and if the movie was enough fun to overcome that is, of course, highly debatable. The other main culprit, again noted by many of the positive reviews, was its long running time, particularly the overly-chaotic, often hard-to-follow final big-bang extended ending action sequence. ==Transformer References==
The movie contains a number of nods and winks to previous iterations of ''Transformers'', primarily from [[Generation 1]]. Some of these were included in direct response to urgings of the fans; others originated with the production crew.
* The basic story set-up is similar to many iterations of the ''Generation 1'' story -- two warring factions, the noble Autobots and the power-hungry Decepticons, arrive on Earth, having left their devastated home planet, the war-torn mechanical world of Cybertron.
* Many of the featured Transformers are re-imagined versions of characters from ''Generation 1''. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] in particular are similar in physical form and characterization to their movie incarnations. The original versions of [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]], and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] differ in appearance but fulfill story roles similar to their Movie versions.
* Though the characters are new, "[[Frenzy]]", "[[Scorponok]]", "[[Brawl (G1)|Brawl]]", "[[Devastator (disambiguation)|Devastator]]", "[[Blackout]]", "[[Barricade]]", and "[[Bonecrusher]]" are all names that have been used on Transformer characters before.

* The original G1 [[transformation]] sound pops up several times during the course of the film, such as Blackout's first conversion sequence (though truth be told it sounds more like it's being broadcast from a loudspeaker.)
* During the fight between the humans and Frenzy in Hoover Dam's communication room, Reggie brandishes a flamethrower and yells "Buuuurrrnnn!" twice while using it, referencing the Beast Wars character [[Inferno]].

==Errors==
* Sunset occurs roughly every fifteen minutes.

* After Bumblebee backs into a corner of the power plant to evade Barricade, there is a close up shot of him spinning his wheels to make his getaway. However, the shot of the wheels spinning is at a different location: the empty warehouse that Bumblebee and Barricade had raced through moments earlier.

* During the scene where Optimus Prime scans a truck for his new body, the passing truck has what appears to be an Autobot sigil on its grill, but the actual truck that Prime turns into at the end of the scene has a much wider, flatter symbol on the grill, quite possibly a Peterbilt sign.

* When Simmons replays Sam's "last words" recorded onto his cell phone, it doesn't match what he said in the scene where he actually recorded them.

* When the Autobots arrive to rescue Sam and Mikaela from Agent Simmons, Ironhide is the first Autobot to reach the damaged SUV and the other Sector Seven agents. Behind him, Ratchet is making his way towards the SUV, while Jazz and Bumblebee have their respective weapons drawn. However, in the very next shot, Ratchet's gun is suddenly in front of Ironhide, who is now making two short steps towards the SUV, while Jazz's gun has been replaced by his hand (which he uses to magnetically pull Sector Seven's guns away). In the shot after that, Jazz is just standing around sans Sector Seven guns, while Bumblebee wanders up and draws his gun... again.

* When Lennox arrives as Sam and Mikaela are supposedly strapping Bumblebee with the tow truck's chains, Bumblebee is not actually there. When the shot changes angles to the other side of the truck, Bumblebee is sitting right beside the truck while Sam directs Mikaela to wrap Bumblebee in the chains. When Lennox tells Sam to evacuate the Cube, subsequent camera angles from this side of the truck are actually where Bumblebee was moments earlier, but he's not there again (it is unlikely the angle was meant to be from Bumblebee's perspective). When Sam starts to run off and Mikaela calls him back, Bumblebee is once again clearly not sitting beside the truck. In fact, the space he once occupied has the beige van he crawled out of, earlier in the battle.

===Not actually an error===
* Sam and Mikaela, as well as Maggie and Glenn arrive at Hoover Dam on the same helicopter despite being from opposite ends of the country. Occasionally cited as an error, it is actually a narrative oversight, as it is likely that Sam and Mikaela were held in custody at a U.S. Air Base while waiting for Maggie and Glen to arrive with Secretary Keller's party by plane, then they all left for Hoover Dam together on the helicopters.
