Christopher Collins, a.k.a. Chris Latta (August 30, 1949 - June 12, 1994) was an American screen actor and voice actor. Though typically credited under his stage name Chris Latta, he was occasionally credited under his given name. Some of his non-Transformers roles include Cobra Commander and Gung-Ho from G.I. Joe, Darkstorm and Cravex from Visionaries, Sergeant Knox and General Dire from Star Blazers, D'Compose from The Inhumanoids, the Beetle and the Sandman from Spider-Man & his Amazing Friends and was the first voice of Mr. Burns and Moe on The Simpsons.

Latta led something of a checkered lifestyle, the details of which are not fully known, but which anecdotes and stories by members of the Transformers cast and crew have hinted at. Flint Dille has claimed that he and other members of the production staff had to frequently bail Latta out of jail; on at least one occasion Latta claimed that he had simply been jaywalking. Latta died in Ventura, California, his cause of death officially recorded as a cerebral hemorrhage following a long illness. Although his contemporaries speak fondly of him when asked at various BotCons, there have been several cryptic comments made that suggest there is more to the story of his death — Peter Cullen remarked that he was a victim of Hollywood's tendency to "devour its young", Susan Blu said that Latta was "a sweet guy who had his demons", and Flint Dille noted that Latta "died, and we never really found out how."

Sparkplug was overseeing two construction bots in a mine, being paid by Isaac Sumdac to find something. Only problem was, that something found them...and it had friends. Sparkplug was attacked, and was presumed dead. Nature Calls

Except he got better. While the Autobots were looking for Scrapper and Mixmaster, the Autobot Bumblebee thought that Sparkplug's truck was Mixmaster, and fired several bursts from his stingers, which did nothing to damage the truck. Upon being attacked by another alien lifeform, Sparkplug displayed both calmness and familiarity with modern slang by asking "Dude, why you whaling on my truck?" after Bumblebee's attack. Guess that encounter in the mines wasn't as bad as we thought. Sari, No One's Home

He later was driving an oil tanker en route to, apparently, Sheboygan, Wisconsin when his truck was attacked by the Constructicons. Three's a Crowd
Notes
*Sparkplug is clearly a homage to Sparkplug Witwicky, patriarch of the Witwicky family from Generation 1. And he's still wearing that hardhat. Why he talks like a frat boy in his second appearance, and with a vaguely Australian accent in his third, is anybody's guess.
