Convinced there are no Decepticons left on Earth, the Elite Guard prepares to take Optimus Prime and his crew back to Cybertron, unaware of the increasing Decepticon activity taking place under their very noses.

Summary
The Autobot Ironhide sends a message to the Earth Autobots, revealing he is under attack from Decepticons, and has already lost one space bridge. He requests back up but the transmission is cut off. Ultra Magnus explains this is but one of many reports of rising Decepticon activity. Jazz thinks it is due to the rumours of Megatron's survival, and Sentinel can't resist an opportunity to make a snide comment about the source of those rumours; Optimus Prime. Magnus decides that all Earth bound Autobots will make preparations to leave the planet, and when Optimus protests due to the presence of Decepticons on Earth, Ultra Magnus brushes him off. When Optimus tries to make his case, Sentinel butts in with another tirade about putting Prime up for an inquiry, with Optimus seeing it as merely another word for court martial. Ultra Magnus tries to make his position clear; that in the long run, everyone is better off believing Megatron is dead, rather then cause panic among the Autobots and strengthen the resolve of the Decepticons by putting forward the idea of the Decepticon leader surviving, and the AllSpark being destroyed. An outraged Optimus is forced into compliance.

Back at the factory, Sari is heartbroken by the idea of her friends being forced to leave Earth. The situation is made worse when Sentinel shows up, and with his usual grace and tact, tells Sari to belt up, and officially inducts Optimus' team in the war effort. In the middle of insulting the "repair grunts", he makes a gesture of sorts to Optimus; do as Ultra Magnus says, admit he's been lying and Sentinel will use his connections to get Optimus' military career back on track, as thanks for the recent Headmaster incident. When Optimus tells him what to do with his offer, Sentinel places him under formal arrest.

On a garbage scow moving along the river, Starscream suddenly reactivates. Disorientated, he panics when he realises not only can he not pick up any Decepticon energy signatures, he can't even pick up his own! After a moment of shock, he recovers and gets his bearings, he's alive and still on Earth. Furious at Megatron's attempt on his life, he transforms and blasts off into the sky.

At the Decepticon base, Blitzwing and Lugnut successfully test out Professor Sumdac's new Decepticon signal dampener. Mildly impressed, Megatron quickly moves on, demanding the creation of a subspace communicator so he can contact his forces in space so he can call off the skirmishes until he can build his own space bridge. When Sumdac comments that Earth technology is too primitive, he smugly informs him that they will simply steal the required tech from the Elite Guard's ship. Meanwhile, the Autobots are trying to figure out what to do with Sari, and take her to the most together human they know; Captain Fanzone, although they do point out a lot of the humans they know are criminally insane. While they handle that, Optimus is on the Elite Guard's ship, with Sentinel still trying to convince him to play ball. While they argue, Lugnut and Blitzwing tunnel under the ship's shield, and steal a tachyon generator. As they make their escape, they fail to notice Starscream tailing them back to base.

As Lugnut presents his prize to Megatron, Starscream makes his presence known. What follows is a quick but decisive victory for Megatron who simply slashes Starscream, before blasting him point blank. Lugnut checks to see if Starscream is still online, and finding no spark, helps Blitzing toss his corpse into the river. After floating downstream, <strike>Kohaku</strike> Starscream suddenly reactivates, again. He realises he lacks a spark, and discovers he is being kept alive by a <strike>shard of the Shikon Jewel</strike> fragment of the AllSpark buried in his head, effectively making him immortal. Delighted, he declares the end of the Megatron's era. As Megatron sends his message out to the Decepticons, Starscream attacks!...and is promptly killed again. After a couple more fruitless attempts, he starts to wonder if he needs a new strategy. His fragment allows him to locate a second shard, and a plan begins to formulate...

At the Elite Guard ship, Magnus presses Optimus Prime to cooperate, when Jazz reveals that he's discovered a sudden surge in AllSpark energy. Concluding that it's another shard, Magnus and Jazz go to retrieve it, while Sentinel is to remain and watch Optimus. As Sentinel moans, Optimus realizes that they had only found AllSpark shards before due to Sari's key. Doing a thermal scan, he discovers Starscream. Optimus tries to warn Ultra Magnus, but Sentinel threatens to put him in stasis cuffs if he tries to leave. Optimus is able to take Sentinel down and place him in the cuffs, then rolls out.

Meanwhile, the Autobots are watching Sari "interview" Captain Fanzone, who is not very fond of children. Optimus contacts the Autobots and tells them to meet him en route to the train.

As Starscream gloats about his plan to draw Megatron out and kill him in a massive explosion, Ultra Magnus and Jazz arrive, as do Megatron and Blitzwing. Megatron realizes that it's a trap by Starscream, while Magnus and Jazz have trouble getting the shard out. An energy surge throws the Elite Guard off the train. Ahead of the tracks, Optimus orders Prowl to sever the passenger cars from main car, while Bumblebee takes Sari to use the to remove the shard. They succeed, but the train still nearly crashes, only stopped because Ratchet uses his magnets to stop them, while Bulkhead grabs the rear of the train, grounded by Optimus Prime. As Starscream fumes about the lost opportunity, Megatron appears, ready to beat him senseless.

On the ground, Ultra Magnus reprimands Optimus Prime, while Sentinel Prime arrives and accuses him of assault. Optimus defends his position, both Elite Guardsmen point out that there is no evidence of Decepticonsm-only for Starscream to crash into the ground mere meters away, causing Sentinel Prime to freak out at the sight of an actual Decepticon. Quickly coming back online, Starscream takes advantage of Magnus' momentary inattention to blast the Autobot leader into unconciousness from point-blank range, taking the shard with him. The Autobots attempts to take down Starscream fail, until Optimus comes up with a plan - although an intervention from Jazz is required to make Sentinel go along with it. Having Sentinel draw his attention, Optimus uses the stasis-cuffs on Starscream, who is taken to the Elite Guard ship - with his mouth riveted shut.

Ultra Magnus admits that Optimus Prime was right about there being Decepticons on Earth, and though Sentinel Prime brings up the assault and insubordination charges, Magnus says that Optimus was still right. Magnus decides that Optimus Prime's crew will remain on Earth to locate the remaining AllSpark shards and capture the Decepticons, while the Elite Guard returns to Cybertron for Magnus to conduct the war effort. Sari is overjoyed that the Autobots are staying, but promises Captain Fanzone that they can still hang out.

Meanwhile, Megatron tells his minions to inform their double-agent that the Decepticons have repledged their allegiance to Megatron, and that their attacks will draw Autobot forces away from Cybertron. Once the space bridge technology is fully developed, they will return to Cybertron, and conquer the planet from within...
"You dare strike ME, Megatron? After all my loyal stellar cycles of- wh- wu- wait, where is everybody?"
"Fellow Decepticons, take heed. Your leader, Megatron, still lives! Though we remain dispersed throughout the far reaches of the galaxy, exiled from our true home, we are all still Decepticons, united by a common purpose. The time has come for us to put aside our differences, and act as one under my undisputed leadership. Only then can we cast off the shackles of Autobot oppression. Working together, we can raise up our glorious Empire once more, and crush all who stand in our way!"
"WHAT IS THAT THING?!"<br />
Other notes
*This episode was first broadcast in Canada on April 26, one week before its United States premiere, and during the American premiere of the episode The Return of the Headmaster.

Continuity errors
*On the previous episodes the Autobots were seen cleaning up the place where they battled Megatron, thus one of them would have to have thrown Starscream corpse into the trash. Kinda cold hearted there.
*Megatron and the other Decepticons don't seem to wonder why it is that Starscream keeps coming back, despite the fact that they note that his spark compartment is empty.
*Megatron shattered Starscream's yellow cockpit with his sword the first time he "kills" him in the episode, leaving his empty spark chamber visible. When Starscream pulls a Captain Jack, it is still missing. After he sees his reflection in the water, it is suddenly present and intact once more.
*When Optimus Prime puts the newly acquired fragment of the Allspark into its housing, there are four shards total, even though thus far, only two have been recovered by the Autobots (three if they ripped the one out of Starscream's brainpan, but seeing as he's still online, that's not likely).

Transformers references
*Much like his Generation 1 counterpart, Starscream is now immortal, only this time they actually explain why and leave him with a body.

Real-world references
* The title. Nuff said<!--Do not say any more here. It needs to be acknowledged, but expanding beyond a wikipedia link can lead to no good-->
* Starscream refers to his disguise as a Harrier Jet. Which he is not.

Miscellaneous trivia
*Along with machines, it seems Captain Fanzone doesn't like kids.
*Starscream gets beaten up by Megatron (and thrown into a river) five times in a single episode. Must be a new record.
*Ultra Magnus got defeated by Starscream after only one shot (though at point blank range to the face), while Megatron shrugs them off and repeatedly defeats Starscream... one would hope that Magnus never has to face Megatron, at least not up close.
*How did Sentinel get the stasis cuffs off?
On a mission, Optimus and Elita 1 accompanied Sentinel Prime to a forbidden organic planet in search of a lost Decepticon ship rumored to be rich in Energon. After finding the planet to be infested with giant spiders, the trio finally decided to leave, but their retreat was not easy. Though Optimus and Elita found the Decepticon ship and its coveted energon cubes, they were forced to escape when spiders surrounded them. However, Elita was left behind, presumed destroyed in an energon explosion. Sentinel Prime was furious and blamed Optimus for her death. Along Came a Spider

Some time after this dark moment, Prime either abandoned or flunked the Autobot Academy and eventually found himself leading a small space bridge repair crew a thousand stellar cycles later. Prime and his crew came across the All Spark while repairing a Space Bridge and brought the artifact aboard their ship. During transport, they were discovered by the Decepticons, and Megatron came after them. He proved too strong to take head on (in spite of his subordinate planting a bomb on his chassis), but when the Autobot ship neared Earth, Prime knocked Megatron overboard. The Autobots stayed in stasis for the next 50 years until they were accidentally awakened by an apparent intruder. Optimus and the Autobots took on Earth vehicles as alternate modes in an attempt to assimilate with what they believed to be the local dominant culture. Prime and his team were able to dispatch a bio-mechanical insectoid that was attacking Detroit. They were hailed as heroes for it.

Over the next several weeks, the Autobots got to learn human culture and and customs, doing their best to prevent disasters and save lives. Eventually, Starscream came for the All Spark, and Optimus found that the schemer could pack quite a punch. The Autobot officer was still able to keep Starscream from getting the artifact, though at the cost of his life. However, he was quickly revived by Sari Sumdac and her All Spark-influenced key. Later, the Autobots helped rebuild parts of Detroit that were destroyed in their battle with Starscream. Transform and Roll Out!

Unfortunately for Optimus, he had gained a reputation outside of Earth's atmosphere&mdash;not as a hero, but as the slayer of Megatron. The Decepticon Blitzwing placed a large bounty on his head, and pretty soon, Lockdown came to collect. He captured Prime and stole his axe and grapplers. Fortunately, Ratchet saved him, finally getting the old bot to open up more. The Thrill of the Hunt

During the Autobots' first Halloween on Earth, the Decepticon Blackarachnia showed up and kidnapped Sari. When Optimus Prime tried to fight her, she dodged all his moves, as she had trained with him. Prime was shocked to learn that Blackarachnia was his old Autobot Academy classmate Elita-1, who hadn't died but been mutated while fighting off the giant arachnids those many years ago. Blackarachnia tried to use Sari's All Spark key to remove the organic aspects from her biology, but the key began to drain the life from everything organic around and nearly killed Blackarachnia herself. Prime removed the key, saving Blackarachnia and the organics. Still calling her Elita, Prime tried to convince her to return to the Autobots so they could try and help her. She repaid that kindness by injecting him with venom and telling him that she would never trust him again. Prime was left to reflect on the friend he'd failed not once, but twice. Along Came a Spider

When Decepticon energy signals were detected near the city, the Autobots quickly realized that their options were limited. Bulkhead mentioned that the Dinobots might help, forcing Prowl to reveal how the two moved them to Dinobot Island. Prime's reaction was...displeased, to say the least. Prime also concluded that the Key was no longer safe with Sari, and he ordered Ratchet to take it from her. As Sari ran off crying, Bumblebee mouthed off that their situation was an indication that Prime was unfit for command.

Heading to Dinobot Island, Prime did not get off to a good start with Grimlock, mostly because Grimlock considered him lunch. After Prowl smoothed things over, Prime tried to convince them to help the Autobots fight the Decepticons, but Grimlock was uninterested. Receiving word from Ratchet that the Key had been stolen, Prime ordered Ratchet to guard the All Spark while the Autobots headed back for the mainland. Prime himself also began to wonder if he was fit for command, seeing as all his decisions had blown up in his face. When Bumblebee contacted the Autobots to inform them that Starscream was at Sumdac Tower, he refused Prime's order to hold back and went to attack the Decepticon on his own. Prime dryly noted that the day just kept getting better and better.

Then everything pretty much went to hell when Megatron burst out of Sumdac Tower, to the shock and horror of just about everyone. Megatron Rising - Part I

Megatron Rising - Part II
Quickly regaining their composure, the Autobots attacked. Megatron beat the slag out of them. Though Optimus faired slightly better, Megatron still brought him down fairly quickly. They were only able to escape when Megatron punished Starscream for his betrayal. Taking refuge within Sumdac Tower, Professor Sumdac explained his role in Megatron's revival, and helped repair the Autobots with residual key energy. After Bumblebee called Prime to answer for his earlier assessment of them, Prime admitted he was wrong, and asked them for forgiveness. As Ratchet and Sari showed up with the Ark, the Autobots took flight, hoping to lure the Decepticons away from Earth to prevent human casualties. Unfortunately, the Decepticons shot down the Ark and caused it to crash on Dinobot Island.

As the Autobots took on the Decepticons, Optimus faced down Megatron. It went as well as the first time. When Megatron got into the Ark, he took the All Spark and placed it within him, using it as a weapon against Prime. However, Megatron had dropped the key, and Sari threw it to Prime. The Autobot officer used the key to send a surge of energy through the All Spark, causing it to disperse while still in Megatron. With the threat passed, Prime apologized to Sari and returned the key, saying it was too important to be trusted with an Autobot. Megatron Rising - Part II
Transformers Animated
*Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime (Deluxe, 2008)

:Based on his pre-Earth Cybertronian look, the first version of Animated Optimus Prime transforms into a half-track Cybertronic truck loosely based on the Mitsubishi Fuso Hybrid concept truck. As a half-track, instead of rear wheels, he has molded, caterpillar-linked tracks with smaller wheels inside for rolling along smooth surfaces. Prime's axe weapon is stored by partially folding the axe at the grey hinge near the handle peg, then placing the handle peg in a hole on the back of the cab (actually his two fists' holes, thus helping them holding in position) with the blade facing down and a grey peg facing up, acting as a "fifth wheel" (known as a trailer hitch among fans), should one find a suitable trailer to attach onto it.

:He has a superb range of articulation, as is the standard with Animated toys, due to the extensive use of ball joints and universal hinge joints. As stated above, the hitch assembly becomes his axe, which can be wielded with one blade (for the rocket-boosted look) or have the single blade split to form a double-bladed axe. The truck roof is mounted on his left arm as a shield or can be separated in two and be attached to the axe to become giant energon blades.

: The Deluxe-class Earth Mode Optimus Prime has a very similar engineering design to to the Deluxe-class Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime figure. He has a battle-damaged deco and comes with a Deluxe-class Cybertron Mode Megatron figure as well as a DVD featuring the first episode of Transformers Animated. He has a distinctively more Generation 1 look than other Animated Primes, given the addition of smokestacks (a detail absent from the animation model) and lack of black beneath the silver stripes.
:Based on his Earth look, a futuristic fire truck. His rear portion transforms into a giant extinguisher, which can really squirt water, and wings, which transform into a giant, opened-up energon axe. The toy features a mouthplate which can slide up to cover his face, or retract down below. He also has an Automorph feature: pressing a button on his... butt... flips down and rotates his... crotch... into the proper position for robot mode. *Optimus was killed off after only one episode (three if you want to get technical) and revived 1 minute and 15 seconds later. That's gotta be a new record.
*The placement of Optimus' Cybertronian vehicle mode front wheels is similar in location to those on Optronix.
*The twin cylinder shaped protrusions connected to Optimus' small antennae are inspired by the head design of the movie rendition of Optimus Prime, as opposed to the traditional single cylinder.
* In the scene with Bulkhead painting his hand, Bumblebee's pose (one leg behind his head, carrying a baby, in front of an overturned Jeep) is a direct reference to the 1980 film Airplane!, in which the main character is in a mental hospital and is painting a very similar image, with a live model. Lets just face: the Dinobots like to kill things. They like it a lot. And they like to get up close and personal when doing it. But there are times where teeth and tail just won't cut it. When that time comes, the Dinobots will usually use their energo-swords.
Marvel Comics continuity
Ratbat led an ambush on both Fortress Maximus and Grimlock's respective Autobot contigents while Grimlock and Blaster dueled for leadership on Earth's moon. While the Decepticon forces overwhelmed the Autobots on the surface of the moon, the island base attacked the Autobots from above, protected by a force field. However, Grimlock's energo-sword was able to cut through the force field, allowing Blaster to shoot the island base with his Electro-Scrambler, forcing a Decepticon retreat. Totaled!

Later, Grimlock fought off some Demons with his energo-sword after becoming an Action Master. Much fun was had. Except for the Demons. Still Life!
Generation 1 cartoon
Apparently, Snarl's energo-sword can fire energy blasts. He did this when the Constructicons attacked the Autobots base in an attempt to destroy Teletraan I. Heavy Metal War Later, after going to Dinobot Island, Snarl used the energo-sword to for shooting at rocks during target practice. He needs to work on his aim. Dinobot Island, Part 2 Likely due to censorship policies, the energo-swords were never used for traditional hacking and slashing, which completely and utterly sucked.

Dreamwave continuity
While searching for Optimus Prime, Grimlock used his energo-sword as a grapple to lower himself down a chasm. That's pretty handy for a weapon. Later, he shoved the energo-sword into the Autobot leader's hands, telling Prime to prove himself by killing Megatron, or Grimlock would kill him. The War Within, Part 5 Optimus Prime used the weapon to beat Megatron senseless, but spared his life and left the energo-sword behind. Considering the fact Optimus Prime wasn't immediately slagged, it appears that Grimlock didn't really care. The War Within, Part 6

After learning that Jetfire was meeting Shockwave in the Neutral Territories, Grimlock decided to kill them both and attempted to use his energo-sword to decapitate Jetfire. When the Fallen appeared, Grimlock tried to destroy him, but the Fallen merely grabbed the energo-sword's blade with his bare hand. Sometimes, it really helps to be on fire. The Dark Ages, Part 4

Animated continuity
Grimlock discovered his energo-sword at the end of his debut in Blast from the Past. This time the swords look much more kick-ass because they are made of fire (flaming swords are always cool). Slag will probably not have a sword, as his toy shows him holding a club instead.
Blackout is not happy with the progress Starscream is making towards finding the missing Decepticon leader. He suspects (quite rightly) that Starscream would prefer Megatron to stay lost. Blackout is openly mutinous and will challenge Starscream's leadership at any opportunity, not for his own sake, but to better serve his ultimate goal of finding his lost master. Unfortunately for him, he keeps getting stuck leading the first wave of attacks. To protect himself, he uses an army of drone troopers (presumably Scorponoks) to draw enemy fire. ===Ghosts of Yesterday novel===

Blackout has spent thousands of years searching for Megatron and the All Spark under Starscream aboard the Nemesis. While Starscream is hoping not to find Megatron, Blackout is working against him in hopes of restoring the former leader. Upon discovering a vessel similar to Megatron's alternate mode, Blackout became convinced that Megatron was nearby. However, the Autobots arrived in the Ark to investigate the ship, and Starscream's orders the Decepticons to wait while he investigates the alien ship. Growing impatient, Blackout convinced Frenzy and Bonecrusher to join him in an attack on the Autobots. Blackout, Scorponok, and Frenzy ganged up on Optimus Prime, but he managed to defeat them, forcing Blackout to call for a retreat. After Prime heads to investigate Bumblebee's disappearance, Starscream orders them to attack, and Bonecrusher is given command. Blackout, however, is able to sneak Scorponok on board the Ark.

After Starscream returns, Blackout demands answers. Starscream claims that Prime and Bumblebee were killed by indigenous worms, while the alien ship was destroyed when it fell into a cavern. Blackout, unconvinced, challenges Starscream, but is seriously damaged, and had to be taken back to the Nemesis. However, Prime, Bumblebee, and the ship appeared soon after. When Starscream ordered the Decepticons to destroy the ship, Blackout demanded answers, which Bonecrusher and Barricade agreed to. However, Ratchet was able to force Scorponok off the Ark, and Blackout, still healing, sped to his rescue. What a pal. Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday
The Decepticon infiltration unit under the command of Starscream, including Blackout and Barricade, landed on Mars, hot on the trail of the Autobot Bumblebee. There, they destroyed a primitive human rover scout. Prime Directives issue 3

The unit arrived on Earth in the year 2003. Blackout scanned a USAF MH-53 Pave Low helicopter, but apparently was not detected by the humans, nor caused any casualties, in contrast to his two comrades. When Starscream tells the Decepticons that their mission is to find the All Spark, Blackout reminds Starscream that they must also find Megatron.

Later, after being lured into a trap intended for Bumblebee set by a group of impressively equipped humans, Blackout attacked the organisation's bunker and attempted to hack into their main server, but failed after they disconnected their local systems.
On Cybertron, Blackout fought alongside Megatron, until his master ordered 'this loyal hound' to assist Starscream's unit in keeping Optimus Prime's forces busy, while Megatron pursued his destiny. Arriving soon after Brawl delivered news of Megatron's location, Blackout and Starscream witnessed the successful Autobot launch of the Allspark. Blackout restrained Starscream from going after it, the pair nearly coming to blows when Blackout launched Scorponok from his chest. Fortunately, Starscream calmed down, and after witnessing Megatron leave the planet himself, the group took on protoform transition forms and followed.

Making planetfall on Earth in Afghanistan many years later, Blackout attracted the attention of a military vehicle of the local creatures. Witnessing the ease in which Wreckage destroyed the carrier, Starscream pondered that Megatron would have been able to subjugate these beings if he was able to. Blackout replied that they needed to find out why he hadn't yet. Starscream's unit then attacked the nearby air base where Blackout scanned and adopted the form of an MH-53J 'Pave Low' helicopter, then easily hacked into the files of the human computers. Inside, he found files on something called 'Project: Iceman', which he suspected was related to Megatron. After the base's destruction, Blackout headed towards Qatar, intent on attacking a similar military base there to access the information they needed. Transformers Movie Prequel (Target) Volume 2

Blackout flew into the airspace of US SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar and refused to identify himself, prompting base commander Colonel Sharp to dispatch two F-22 Raptors to escort the Decepticon into their base. One of the Raptors reported that Blackout had the registry number of 4500X on his vertical stabilizer, the number of the helicopter Blackout had scanned and destroyed three months earlier in Afghanistan.

Once landed, Blackout was surrounded by the soldiers stationed at the base and ordered to power down and disembark his crew, or deadly force would be used. Seeing no reason to hide himself any further, Blackout transformed under a hail of automatic weapons fire from the shocked humans. Activating his heavy machine guns and rocket launchers, Blackout made quick work of the soldiers closest to him, then unleashed a massive shock wave that killed the rest of the troops and shattered their vehicles and the windows of the operations control tower. Blackout made his way around the base, tossing tanks aside, crushing soldiers underfoot and blowing up aircraft. Eventually, he reached the operations bunker and tore off the roof to link up with their server and download its files in an attempt to find information on Project: Ice Man. Unfortunately, the base commander intervened, cutting the physical hard line of the server, severing Blackout's connection and thwarting the primary objective of his mission.

Still, Blackout carried out his second objective - the destruction of the human base. As he proceeded, a human soldier was nearly crushed. Instinctively, the soldier recorded images of Blackout, the Decepticon indulging this brief moment of curiosity by looking straight back at the human. Blackout then activated a chest-mounted laser cannon to put the fleshling out of its misery, but before he could do so, he was struck by a grenade fired by another soldier, and the human made his escape. Enraged, Blackout fired flare countermeasures into the sky to confuse any other attempts to attack him, then ejected Scorponok from his back and sent his minion to track the fleeing soldiers. Blackout then turned his attention and his weapons back to the rest of the base, eventually destroying it, leaving no survivors.

Evidently, after the attack, Blackout flew back to the United States, as he was in the vicinity when Frenzy reported the discovery of All Spark's location and Starscream ordered their forces to mobilize. Blackout was the last to acknowledge the order, then rallied in Megatron's name, perhaps to remind Starscream who his master was.

Blackout arrived at Mission City just as the final battle was getting underway. Megatron's order of "Decepticons attack" must have been music to his ears, and he followed his master's commands whole heartedly. He attempted to block ladiesman217's path as the boy was trying to get away with the All Spark, before he was attacked by Ironhide. The Autobot threw a car at Blackout, who fired his laser cannon to destroy the vehicle and knock Ironhide over. He flew ahead of ladiesman217, attempting to use his rotor weapon to kill him, but the human managed to dodge this attack.

Blackout withdrew from the battle for a few moments, but returned as Optimus Prime and Megatron fought. Seeing his master under attack, Blackout came to the defense of his lord by activating his hand-held rotor weapon, but soldiers&mdash;including survivors of the SOCCENT base attack&mdash;attempted to stop him by painting him with targeting lasers for friendly F-22 Raptors to fire upon. As Blackout activated his cannon, he noticed the lasers targeted on him. Underestimating the fighting spirit and desire for vengeance of the humans, Blackout tried to finish them off until Captain Lennox, using an abandoned motorcycle, charged at him and fired a sabot round into his crotch (ouch), as F-22s pounded the Decepticon with missiles, extinguishing his spark.

His remains were dumped in the (second) deepest part of the ocean along with his fellow dead Decepticons. Transformers (2007)
:(Note: The possible period of time that Blackout acquired his vehicle mode in the movie appears to contradict the origin of his vehicle mode in both IDW's Prime Directives prequel and the Target exclusive prequel comic. ====Autobot campaign====
In the Autobot campaign he suffers a humiliating defeat from Jazz, even though Blackout had Starscream's help. That's got be the most humiliating thing for any of the characters in the videogame, losing to somebody a third of his size.

Decepticon campaign
Blackout and Scorponok were sent to the SOCCENT Base to destroy the human military installation there and download information from the military servers on the location of the AllSpark. The pair were successful, though Blackout's escape was briefly interrupted by the arrival of a squad of human jet fighters. After blasting them to tiny bits, he made good his escape.

Blackout arrived at Hoover Dam, where his scans failed to detect the energy signatures of Megatron or the AllSpark. Starscream ordered him to break the dam piece by piece. Blackout fired a pair of missiles and fought off a squad of Autobot sports car drones that were defending the installation. As Megatron emerged, he bowed before his lord. He then followed the newly-revived Megatron to Mission City, where he engaged in a final showdown with Ironhide, who had just punted Scorponok. The Autobot warhorse certainly gave the massive Decepticon a run for his money. The huge number of Autobot drones backing Ironhide up didn't make things any easier.

During Megatron's battle with Optimus Prime, Blackout attempted to assist his master by charging Prime. Prime punched the massive Decepticon, sending him flying. How embarrassing.

Transformers: Autobots
Blackout shows up during Jazz's mission to retrieve several Sector Seven vehicles for scanning. Arriving at an abandoned power station after fighting off hordes of human authorities for stealing, Jazz had to fight Blackout with significant damage taken from the primitive weapons.

Jazz STILL won. This is even more humiliating than before.

Deciding that discretion was the better part of valor, and that cowardice was the better part of discretion, Blackout valiantly flew off, appearing much later to pester an already pissed-off Ratchet. He didn't fare too well this time, either.

Transformers: Decepticons
First arriving under the command of a low-ranking soldier, Blackout was sent out to destroy the communications arrays in the Qatar SOCCENT military base. Once completed, he returns for more orders.

Soon after, Blackout encounters Ratchet, who appears at the base to stop you from blowing the hell out of everything. Once defeated, Blackout disappears until the other Decepticons arrive at Hoover Dam.

Dropping off some bombs for Brawl to set, the Decepticons attempt to blow up the Dam to simultaneously release Megatron and thaw him out, but are thwarted by Jazz and his drone clones. Their heroic attempts are for naught, as Megatron escapes anyway, while Blackout and Barricade retrieve his weapon chip. Once in hand, they meet before their leader and reactivate his weapons. After a charismatic speech, they set out to Tranquility to capture the AllSpark and defeat the Autobots once and for all.

Blackout arrives just in time to be blasted to slag by an AllSpark powered Starscream with a single blast. That's still slightly less embarrassing as being beaten by a half-dead Jazz.

:A much smaller and highly simplified version of the character, Legends Blackout features limited articulation and detail, with the helicopter mode not being a particularly faithful recreation of an MH-53 Pave Low (the placement of the fuel tanks, in particular). Even though the robot mode sports an attempt to emulate the movie character's chest design, this does not involve the use of obvious fake elements of the helicopter mode's cockpit, unlike other Legends Class toys of movie characters. Curiously, the instructions on the back of the card show how to transform him from his alt-mode to his robot mode, which is the reverse of the rest of the Legends Class packaging.

*Blackout (Voyager Class, 2007)
:Japanese ID Number: MD-01

: Blackout transforms into a reasonably accurate Sikorsky MH-53 Pave Low heavy-lift helicopter, though his blue color scheme is quite inaccurate compared to the actual helicopter used in the movie and similar ones in USAF service. An aft "cage" compartment can be opened to release a small PVC figurine of his partner, Scorponok. A button on the very end of his tail can be pressed in a geared action to rotate his rotor blades, but this feature really comes into play when the user attaches the Deluxe-class Scorponok figure to the bottom of Blackout's helicopter mode via two pegs. A geared shaft linked to the rotor mechanism connects to a geared peg on Scorponok's back. Thus, pressing the button on Blackout's tail not only rotates his blades, but also rotates Scorponok's pincers, though this gimmick is actually easier to activate by rotating the geared wheel on Scorponok's undercarriage.

: During transformation, Blackout's (mind-numbingly delicate) Automorphing gimmick is activated when the user swings down his legs, which in turn flips the gray chest section his head is mounted upon up and into position. A better way to activate this feature is to push the tail down, which automorphs the legs and head without breaking the figure. Another, less impressive automorph is in his legs - If you pull his knees down, his shin armor pops out a bit.

: In robot mode, Blackout is not quite as accurate to his final CGI design as some of the other Movie toys are. Instead, it appears that his design is closer to that of his original concept art, back when he was called "Incinerator". Oddly, he's much more accurate to his depiction in the Transformers Nintendo DS games. Still, as is expected with the mainline movie toys, he features excellent articulation, with multi-ratcheting joints in his shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. The entire rotor assembly on his back can be removed and converted into a gigantic fan weapon, to vaguely represent the hand-held rotor-blade weapon he wields in the film, also seen on the Titanium figurine (see below). Because of the size of his rotor assembly, Blackout is also much smaller than most Voyager-class figures, barely larger than a Deluxe figure (particularly Barricade, only about a head taller).

: There are a couple significant flaws in Blackout's design: Firstly, the pegs that hold the fuselage (his robot legs) to the rotor/tail assembly do not provide enough friction to withstand the weight of the fuselage itself, causing it to detach from the body of the helicopter and droop down. Secondly, the gears in the cockpit's (his chest's) Automorphing gimmick can misalign themselves during transformation back in to vehicle mode, enough so that the chest/head section refuses to align with the cockpit halves.

: An interesting side note is that the two hard points located on Blackout's shoulders, intended to support his abominably large weapon, are actually the same size as the Mini-Con hardpoints on most post-Armada figures. This basically means he is the only Decepticon from the movie continuity who can Powerlinx. Though, considering how far-removed both continuities are, this is most likely something of an accident, as there is a lack of Powerlinx port details at the base of these hardpoints.

: This mold was retooled and redecoed into Evac for the AllSpark Power refresh of the Movie toyline.

*Decepticon Desert Attack (Toys'R'Us exclusive two-pack, 2007)

: This package, based on their first appearance in the film, features an unchanged Voyager Blackout packaged with an unchanged Deluxe Scorponok, which was exclusively available at Toys "R" Us stores. Since Voyager Blackout was gang-molded with the miniature Scorponok figure the single release came with, this means that the set contains two Scorponok toys in different sizes.
*Blackout Ver. 4500X (Lawson exclusive Voyager Class, Japan 2007)

: This Voyager class Blackout repaint is exclusive to the Lawson Japan convenience store chain, with the purchase of the movie DVD. He is redecoed in a more realistic color scheme for vehicle mode, 4500X markings and a drastically changed plastic color scheme in robot mode (many parts once black are now silver or the same colour as his helicopter hull). Additionally, the mini-Scorponok figurine has been repainted in metallic colours and detailed to resemble the deluxe-class toy (and the movie CG design, of course).
As a matter of fact, both toys might turn out to be outright identical, packging aside.

: This three-inch figurine, as with all Titaniums, is partially made of die-cast metal and plastic, sculpted holding his rotor-blades as a hand weapon. Interestingly, Blackout has a more unique sculpt to him; the weapon is sculpted as it was briefly seen in the movie, but on the wrong hand. Blackout himself has an altered leg & foot design as well as having the main rotor-blades on his back excluded, matching it up more with the fact that instead of using his tail rotor, he uses his main rotor as a multi-purpose melee weapon, echoing the game render. His articulation is limited to his shoulders, head and waist, and he comes packaged with a movie-style Decepticon symbol display base.

* Blackout was originally conceived as Soundwave, hence his symbiotic relationship with Scorponok, who was originally conceived as Ravage. Though this obviously changed, his portrayal in the Ghosts of Yesterday novel is rather Soundwave-esque. Likewise, in the IDW prequel comic, Blackout is the only Decepticon to land on Earth and acquire his alternate mode without any witnesses, whereas Starscream and Barricade had to kill existing witnesses. In the film itself, Blackout's only speaking role has him quickly reporting to Starscream's call... in Cybertronian, with he alone both hailing Megatron upon the All Spark's discovery and attempting to aid him in battle against Prime. What's more, all this "Soundwave-ness" is further enhanced by Hasbro's official bio, calling Blackout "his leader's hound".

* Blackout wins the award for being the Transformers character from the 2007 movie that has gone through the most number of working names: Aside from "Soundwave", he was also supposed to be named "Grimlock", "Vortex", "Devastator" and "Incinerator" at different stages of the pre-production process. The name "Incinerator" was later used for a different toy from the Movie toyline.

* Blackout's working name "Incinerator" is also accounted for in the aforementioned Hasbro bio, noting how Blackout will "fill the air with fire and burn the land clear to take his revenge".

* The period of time that Blackout acquired his vehicle mode in the film, three months prior to the unfolding events, appears to contradict the origin of his vehicle mode in IDW's Prime Directives prequel comics, with him apparently having scanned and destroyed the MH-53 Pave Low all the way back in 2003. It's maaaaybe possible that he just kept on destroying different Pave Lows over time to maintain his covert status (with the U.S. government covering it up) until he finally realized how close he was to a military network access point.

* Technically, Scorponok's scorpion mode is his robot mode, whereas his "alternate mode" is actually a part of Blackout's engine: The center of his body appears to be made of a General Electric T64 turboshaft engine, whereas according to his transformation/separation sequence in the movie, his forearms are made up of part of the side thrusters' exhausts, and therefore also consist of parts of T64 engines (how this is possible, considering an MH-53 Pave Low only features two T64 engines, is up to anyone's guess). Meanwhile, the various markings found on the CGI model's design, the life-sized props and Hasbro's Deluxe toy are taken from all kinds of places of Blackout's helicopter mode, most prominently the cockpit and the tail. Some of those markings can also be found on props used for the scene which features the US Navy dumping the Decepticons' remains into the ocean. Considering Blackout didn't appear to be missing any integral parts of his alternate mode when answering Frenzy's call or during the final battle in Mission City, one would suspect that either Scorponok reattached himself to Blackout after he escaped the US Air Force's counter-attack in Qatar (and was therefore part of Blackout during the final battle), or Blackout somehow magically regrew the parts that were previously made up by Scorponok. Furthermore, this raises the question whether Scorponok is actually supposed to be a fully-fledged character, or merely a "drone". In the feature "From Script to Sand: The Skorponok Desert Attack" on the movie's bonus DVD, production designer Jeff Mann suggested that Scorponok was "birthed" from Blackout, thus suggesting that he might be more of an autonomous extension of Blackout himself, similar to Roller.

* Blackout is never actually seen using his chest cannon in the film, even though he unfurls it quite emphatically on two separate occasions.

* During a transmission from Burger King's website, Optimus Prime has decreed that we are not to ride this helicopter. The current ridability of other helicopters the world over is unknown. Stand by for further updates as they become available.
